DAMON/ELENA BRACKET, ROUND 1.1M
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1.18 After Stefan loses control and vamps out at an...inopportune moment, we cut to Elena answering the Gilbert home front door: “Oh good," she says, sounding relieved, "you’re here.”  “You ask, I come,” Damon tells her, “I’m easy like that.” She puts a finger to her lips and indicates that Jeremy is within earshot, and starts to head upstairs. Damon raises his voice: “No, Elena, I will not go to your bedroom with you!” Jeremy just rolls his eyes. Damon enters Elena's bedroom and says, “Ahhh, just like I remembered.” “Stop messing around,” Elena tells him. He flops onto her bed and starts playing with her teddy bear. They talk about Stefan. “He’s not himself, Damon,” Elena says.  “Well, maybe the problem is he’s spent too long not being himself,” Damon says, then fishes a bra out of Elena’s drawer and adds “Ooooh.” She snatches it away from him, says seriously, “Please don’t make me sorry for asking you.” “It is what it is, Elena,” Damon answers, now stealing a photo from her mirror frame. “The Stefan you know is good behavior Stefan. Reign it in Stefan.  Fight against his nature to an annoyingly obsessive level…Stefan. But if you think there’s not another part to this, then you have not been paying attention.”  She steps in close, takes her picture back. “He’s not you,” Elena tells him, “not even close.” “Well he doesn’t wanna be me,” Damon counters, “that doesn’t mean deep down that he’s not.”
1.11 Damon brings Elena to Bree’s Bar, despite the fact that she's not old enough. Bree pours them all shots; Elena seems unsure about hers and so Damon sneakily drinks it for her, which makes Elena smile.  Bree asks Elena how she got roped in to Damon's heart-breaking ways; she says she’s not roped, but doesn’t get through explaining that she’s dating Stefan. Bree tells Damon that there's no way to get in the tomb to save Katherine, and then he eavesdrops on Elena telling Stefan over the phone she doesn't see why she should believe him.  Damon speeds to her side and asks, “You okay?” She snaps, “Don’t pretend to care. I know you’re gloating inside.”But a minute later they’re inside together, eating french fries at the bar and discussing her heritage and his digestion. Elena is enjoying his charm and his humor, and then asks, “This nice act…is any of it real?” He just looks at her, and doesn’t answer. Bree hands him another beer, Elena pipes up, “I’ll have one too. Time-out, remember? For five minutes. And this five minutes is gonna need a beer.” They do some shots with bar denizens. “Do you need a bib?” Elena teases Damon. “Sorry I can’t unhinge my jaw like a snake to consume alcohol,” he answers. Elena suggests another round, a woman tells her she should be on the ground. "I'm not even drunk, my tolerance is like waaay up here!" She jumps up and down, Damon stares at her, smiling with equal parts bemusement and affection.

Corby-“Keep rubbing almost there…. come on cum for mommy….. cum all in that diaper for step mommy… I wanna wear mommy’s g/string over my diaper. Come on keep humping!!! Ahhh!!!
*opens eyes
Tumblr media
*step mother walks into bedroom”
“Hey Corby… it’s dark in here again. You know how I feel about the lights being off in there and you having the PS5 in there after dark….”
The rooming smelling of baby powder, wipes, and petroleum jelly, and with the PS5 still hooked up she knew what was going on. My step mom always knew about my special condition, which inhibited me to wear diaper but on top of that saw my micro penis everyday…. It was both stimulating and humiliating, to have a mature milf like her change my diaper everyday.
This was my POV today after getting my little booty hole wiped clean…. She took a long look during today’s change, she’s always paranoid that I am sticking toys up there.
Tumblr media
As of lately though i have found her much more attractive and can hardly get through a diaper change without needing a second diaper…. Fuck I was so close to cumming. Little did my step mommy know, I had a nice 3 inch plug vibrating until she came in the room and interrupted.. fuck did she look good
Tumblr media
“Corby… this is the 3rd babysitter this month. You know I have to work from home…. I’m don’t have time with your bullshit. If the babysitter needs me tell her to text me. I have a lot of fitness videos to shoot and content to create. Oh and btw, I turned on parental setting to your phone and I found a pretty interesting picture of me on there… you like my yellow leggings. We all talk later about this…
Anyway your baby sitter Katherine is here to handle you for the afternoon.”
In comes Ms.Katherine a beautiful brunette with the biggest breasts I’ve ever seen. She takes a good look at me and doesn’t even act like I’m there.
Katherine- “So this is him, how old are you?”
Corby- “ i just turned 20”
Katherine-“And you live with your step mom?
Corby- “I mean for now… but I am still getting
a job.
Immediately I feel myself getting just dominated by this woman. I didn’t know what to say… I opened my mouth to talk and
Katherine-“ Listen I don’t give a fuck about being your babysitter… actually babysit infants and toddlers… people who need to be diapered.
But you are a special case, you don’t need to be diapered because you are innocent. You need to be diapered to be humiliated.”
Katherine walked out of the room to go grab her “phone”. I was standing in the door, more anxious and heated than ever, planning my escape I thought of grabbing stuff and going to a friends. I grab my things, phone him I’m leaving and to expect me. I was still wearing a diaper because I didn’t have time to change out of it. I turn to the living room and notice Katherine recording me.
-Katherine “where you going my sweet diaper boy, or after today call you diaper girl??
My heart sank Katherine was wearing a very revealing top and all I saw were tits the size of basketballs and her cat like face. And something else???
Tumblr media
-Katherine “ are you starring sweet girl? That’s okay everyone does. They can’t help it, when they see tits the size of mine they just go back to infancy. Who wouldn’t I mean imagine getting to nurse these everyday?? I’ll make you a deal if you can guess my bra size, I’ll titty fuck, give you a rim job and suck you off.
😭😂😭
I know you won’t guess it, I know you probably don’t even know how to take a bra off a girl. Im not worried.”
Corby-“My heart was racing I didn’t know an appropriate bra size other than watching porn and it was just what they said I didn’t know! I have a 1 inch dick I don’t ever get pussy! Um DD?????”
Katherine-“ you have one more guess.. i recommend you get it right”
*while she squeezes her tits together and spits in her mouth to make it wet.
Katherine-“ I know you want me to swallow down your cock corby”
-Corby “Um… I would say you are a G cup!!”
Katherine-“Wrong answer..” sorry but you have to live up to your half of the bet.
**Katherine slips her top back on but comes out with a 9 inch strap on
Your heart sinks…. What is going on. I’ve only watched porn, yeah I am a perv but I’m helpless girls don’t look at me and now miss Katherine wants to peg me?
-Katherine-“you want me to change your little diaper corby hmmm? You want Miss Katherine to take care of her little girly boy??? Wipe his little boy hole and clity? Make sure he’s clean no accidents or messes…. I know it’s hard when you have a milf like your step mom walking around the house. I know you take pictures of her… and wear her thongs. What else do you do???
Feeling like I’m going to pass out, I immediately start dirty talking back. I might have a 1 inch cock but I’m going to make this last..
-Corby “I put her thongs over my diapers when I think of her!” I put them in my mouth or over my head. I need to be put in my place please mistress”
Tumblr media
-Katherine-“ I knew you were a dirty fucker, that’s why it’s time to change your diaper. You lay right down on that blanket there. Miss needs those legs up high… what’s this? What do we have here?
A plug??? I knew, little weasel. I thought we were going to have a nice day and give you a nice orgasm.. I guess fucking not. Push that little plug out. I don’t care if it hurts get it out… Legs up”
Katherine unstraps my diaper takes the plug out of my diaper and looks at my stretched out mess.
-Katherine-“ I didn’t expect you to be plugged up, you really are a perv. I’m so happy you didn’t guess my bra size, I’m going to make you mine after you wearing that plug in my presence. You really want to fuck me? Your cock is 1 inch long, you wouldn’t know what to do if I put my tits in your face. You deserve diapers, and you will need one for a while.”
*Katherine starts applying only petroleum jelly to your ass and balls area..
* Notices that your cock is getting rock hard and balls are getting full
Katherine- “oh does little Corby like that? Getting his prostate played with. I hear you moaning already. Well how about this..
* Straps on Diaper back to Corby but with hole around the anus area
* Katherine inserts 5 inches of strap on, and makes Corby squeal.
Katherine- “I need you to be loud Corby, be loud for Miss Katherine. Stare at Miss Katherine’s big bouncing tities. You are doing so well, but I need you to cum for miss Katherine.
Cum all in your diaper. No we aren’t done yet that’s not enough cum.”
Feeling the hot mess in the front of my diaper and the KY jelly leaking out the back hole, I thought it was over and I felt that the ecstasy was going to have more very sore. Miss Katherine comes back saying that I still haven’t been properly milked.
Flipping me on my back, she stuck a pair of my step mothers g strings in my mouth and ripped both of her giant tits and hung them right over my face too. Just a minute later she was a buzzing the front of diaper with her want vibrator calling me a a slut and fucking me with her strap. I lie there fully erect with another pair of full balls.
I was no match for Katherine.
Katherine- “You little pervy fuck, you loved getting fucked by your babysitter? Just being a sitting cum dumpster. I’m shocked by the amount you actually cum. I know you couldn’t help your self from cumming like that. Look at you, all your little holes are just leaking. You are still twitching.“
**turns the vibrator on high and rubs the underneath/bottom of your diaper area
“I think she’s gunna cum again.”
-Corby” Oh fuck… I’m cumming again mum mmm mum mmmm. Fuck I’m cumminngg
**Cums*** eyes roll back in head and fills diaper completely with warm cum
*Katherine unstraps diaper and sees it’s filled with cum
Katherine-“ Little diaper slut get carried away?
I knew how much you loved that. You know who else will love it? My friends when I show them the pictures I took of you after I pegged you and officially claimed another diaper virgin.
I’ll be expecting a gift every mother’s day”

I can't. Reader said
Why not? Kimberly said
I'd popped my head back on my locker door. He probably wants to do the project with someone. Even though it's a duo essay about anything. He'd probably doesn't like my idea. Reader said
I put a strand of hair around my ear. Then, what is your idea for the essay. Kimberly said
I was going to say about lost isles of Atlantis. But, I feel like it's not going to be a great essay. Reader said. I grab my books before, I close my locker door. I look at Kimberly then, saw Adam afar from us. I saw another girl walking to him and watch them holding hands. I think I'm going to be sick. Reader said
I look at Adam and watch him hold hands with Mya. You could just walk over to him. Kimberly said.
I could but, I would make a fool out of myself. I should get going. I have to get home and study. Reader said

I walk around the corner of the hallway and heard them talking about the essay. I walk towards the library. I look around and saw a table from the window. I put my books down on the table. I walk through the library and saw my eyes on the lost isles of Atlantis. I sat down on the floor and open the book. I look at all the photos of the lost ships and treasures. I started to read the passages slowly. I started to nod off into sleep. Getting some sleep huh? I heard a voice. I close my eyes.
Hey guys, I just need to go back inside real quick. I will meet you guys at the youth center. Adam said
Hurry up. Mya said
Mya, you can't rush him. Billy said
Okay. Mya said
I walked back inside the school. I walk into the hallway and went to my locker. I stumble near my locker and saw (y/n) from the far window of the library. I smile. Cute. I said. I look at my locker then, walk to the library. I walk inside the library and saw her books on the table. I follow the trail of the books. And found her on the ground (Y/N). Getting some sleep, huh? Adam said
I sat down next to (Y/N) and watch her sleep as she was holding the book of the lost isles of Atlantis. I look at her lips. I went in to kiss her lips. I broke the kiss after three seconds. Come on let me take you home. I close the book. I put the book on the shelf. I got up and bend down and pick up (Y/N). I start to carry her and grab the book. I walk over to the table. I put the book on top of her other books and grab the rest of them. I got you, don't worry (Y/N).Adam said.
Five minutes later.
While I was carrying (Y/N) and walking towards her house. I heard a lot of commotion going on. I saw the neighbors arguing with each other. I knock on (Y/N) door. I look down at her. I smile away.
I open the door. Oh, you must be Adam. (Y/N) friend. Come in. Come in. I look at (Y/N) in his arms. I'm her older sister. Our mom just went out for a bit. But she will be back. (Y/N) sister.
Can I put (Y/N) on the couch or her bed? Adam said
Here let me get her books first. (Y/N) sister said. I grab my sisters books and told Adam to follow me. Come on. (Y/N) sister said
I watch as (Y/N) sister said, "Follow me." I start to follow her. This is her room. Adam said
Yes this is her room. Don't hurt her please. (Y/N) sister said.
I won't hurt her. Adam said
I open my sister door. I walk in her room. I put her books down on her desk. So, you found her asleep? (Y/N) sister said
You can say that. Adam said. I'd put (Y/N) down on her bed.
Thank you for bringing her home,Adam. (Y/N) sister said
No problem. Adam said. I watch her sister walk out of the room. I look at (Y/N). I smile, I would like for you to say something to me. I look at the lost isles of Atlantis again. You and me. I start to study (Y/N). I kept eye on you a lot. To keep you safe. I look at her wrists and saw a lot of pen drawings of the stars. I did not know that you like me too. Adam said
*beep beep*
Adam, the rangers need you. Zordon said
I'll be there. Adam said.
I start to open my eyes lightly and saw Adam. Adam, (Y/N) said
Shh. I put my fingers on my lips. I'll be right back. Adam said
I look at him and study his features. I watch him walk out of my room and heard another door close. Adam, don't go. (Y/N) said

Congrats on 500, lovely!
What about “quick! Kiss me!” for some Nessian fluff? ♥️
Ahhh, thank you so much! 💕 I went through the ringer with this prompt, let me tell you. Once I figured out the overall concept/idea, I had a thought on how to use this that I absolutely loved. Then, as I kept thinking about how I'd incorporate it, I couldn't picture in my head executing it well. Drove me nuts and had me reconsidering and thinking of other ways to use it, but I didn't love any of them as much. So, I decided to just give it a try, and I have to admit, it came out far better in writing than I had imagined in my head! May not be perfect, but I'm happy. 😄 Anyways, ramblings of a mad woman over...fic time!

Nesta's eyes remained closed as she felt herself fade into consciousness, whatever dream she'd been having whisking out of her mind with each breath.
She sighed loudly as she lifted her arms above her head for a big stretch. Her back arched off the bed with the movement and a squeak escaped her lips as she held it.
Finally a bit more awake, she let her eyes flutter open, her room already bright from the morning sun.
Nesta stretched again as she stood from her bed, shivering slightly at the cold air and rushing to slide on her plush robe over her nightgown. As she tied it up, she finally looked out the window to see a thick, extremely unexpected layer of snow on the ground.
"Crap," she breathed before she rushed to another window to get a look out at the front of her house. She groaned loudly at the sight, the shimmering layer of white that should take her breath away. Instead, it filled her with dread, realizing she'd now be spending a chunk of her Saturday shoveling the driveway.
Dragging her feet, she made her way back to her room and started on her morning routine. She was in no rush to get outside. As much as she loved a chilly, snowy day, curling up by the fire with a nice hot chocolate and a good book, she wasn't a fan of the responsibilities that came with owning her own house when it snowed.
Once she was bundled up in a thick, grey sweater and jeans with fresh breath, a clean and moisturized face, and her golden brown hair twisted into one long braid, Nesta went into her kitchen. She threw a frozen breakfast burrito into her toaster oven and then started on her tea, filling up the kettle and setting it on her stove.
She was just going through her collection of tea bags when she heard a scraping outside that had her head snapping toward her door.
Her face scrunching in confusion, Nesta approached her door cautiously, peeking out the window next to it to see where the noise came from. She let out a small sigh of relief at the familiar figure before the questions started flooding her mind.
Nesta opened the door, crossing her arms to shield herself from the cold as she stepped onto her covered porch, thankful most of it had remained dry. She looked out over her driveway to the tall, muscular figure in the middle of it, shovel in hand. He wore jeans and a sweatshirt beneath that same leather jacket he was always in. His shoulder-length, black hair was left down, held into place by the Velaris Rangers knit hat he was wearing, equipped with a snowflake pattern against the deep, purple fabric and a sparkling, fluffy, silver pompom on top.
"What the hell are you doing?!" she called out to him, the chilly air nipping at her nose.
Cassian paused, turning his head to look up at her, a cheery smile on his face. "What does it look like I'm doing?" he asked, his voice slightly louder than normal so she could hear him.
"Trespassing!"
She heard his laugh float across the air, felt it caress her cheeks in a way that would have made her blush if she weren't already so rosy from the cold. "Is that what you call it when someone does you a favor?"
Rolling her eyes, she groaned, "Cassian."
"I'm shoveling your driveway, Nesta," he explained, somehow sounding both amused and exasperated. "I was already out, doing my own, figured I'd help and do yours, too."
She couldn't stop the look of surprise that spread across her face. Cassian wasn't a bad neighbor. A bit annoying, but only because he always tried to talk to her whenever he saw her and would check in on her regularly and complimented her all the time and flashed her a smile that seemed to cause a hitch in her breathing without her permission. But no, he wasn't a bad neighbor. When he had friends over they were never excessively loud. If he was throwing an actual party it always ended at a reasonable hour. He never parked in other people's driveways, nor did he let anyone coming to work on his house block them. And he'd let her know if he saw something weird or suspicious on her property.
Begrudgingly, Nesta might even admit Cassian was a good neighbor.
This, however, is not something a good neighbor does. Maybe they might shovel a bit where their two driveways meet, but Nesta's house was behind Cassian's, so her driveway was ridiculously long. Much larger than his. Good neighbors keep themselves from becoming nuisances; they offer small acts of kindness, little favors that will be paid back over time. They don't take it upon themselves to do one of the worst chores imaginable at great inconvenience to themselves, especially without being asked to help.
"You really don't have to do that. It's my driveway."
Cassian chuckled softly. "I know, but I can't get to the gym. Thought I'd find some other way to put all this muscle to use." He flexed one of his arms and it had Nesta shaking her head slightly, even as a small laugh escaped her lips. She could've sworn Cassian's face lit up at the sound. "Besides, I know you hate doing it."
Something warm began to spread within Nesta, as if she'd just taken a sip of her tea. But she didn't have time to think about it, not as she remembered the kettle still on the stove and rushed inside to take it off the fire.
It got her thinking, and before she knew it Nesta was pouring the water into two travel mugs and placing tea bags within them as she slid on her boots and a jacket.
Bracing herself, she stepped back outside, hands now full, and shut the door behind her before carefully walking toward Cassian. His brows were furrowed as if he were contemplating something of the utmost importance in his mind as he shoveled, but still he heard her walking toward him.
"Thank you," she said by way of a second greeting, holding out one of the mugs for him.
His lips spread into a wide smile as he accepted the tea, though his eyes never left her wind-kissed face. It sent Nesta's heart thundering and made her eager to dart her eyes away. To look anywhere but his gaze.
"Thank you," he breathed before taking a sip. "What tea is this?"
"It's a mint chocolate herbal mixture I found at some market once. One of my favorite winter blends."
He nodded, taking another sip. "It's nice. Sweet, but still fairly subtle."
"I figured you may not want the black caramel blend." Nesta gave him an amused smile as she sipped her own tea, allowing it to warm her just as his words had earlier.
"You might be right," he chuckled. "But I'd drink this one again, though nothing trumps standard black tea for me."
"You would be that guy."
"Oh, I'm a lot of things, Nes." He winked at her and it had something fluttering deep within Nesta in a way that was entirely unacceptable.
Sure, Cassian looked like a god. But he was obnoxious and nosey and saw way too much of what Nesta liked to hide. It was dangerous. He was dangerous, and Nesta really wasn't one to flirt with danger.
Usually.
"Pretty sure I've told you not to call me that," she reminded him, keeping her voice flat and even.
"What, I don't get any privileges for shoveling your driveway?"
Nesta quirked an eyebrow just as the corner of her lip on the same side twitched upward. "Is that what you're doing? Hoping to earn special privileges?"
He laughed freely at that, throwing his head back slightly with the force of it. "Not at all, though I wouldn't be opposed. I'm just being nice and neighborly."
"This goes beyond being 'nice and neighborly', Cassian."
"It does not. You just have a hard time understanding the full extent of the concept of being 'nice'." He flicked her nose with a gloved finger and it had Nesta scrunching her face.
She swatted his hand away. "I'm nice!" He gave her a face that could only be read as, Seriously?, and it had Nesta rolling her eyes. "Well, I can be. With people who deserve it."
"Oh, you wound me." Cassian was fighting a laugh as he dramatically placed a hand over his heart.
"Enjoy the tea." She narrowed her gaze at him and then pivoted on one foot, storming back into the house to finally eat her breakfast.
Cassian clearly didn't know what he was talking about. Nesta could be nice. So what if she had a bit of a sharp tongue? That didn't mean she didn't know how to be nice. Clearly, she just had to prove it.
Tumblr media
"You're joking!"
Cassian sighed, holding the phone to his ear with his shoulder as he scrubbed his dinner plate. "No."
"You're telling me you skipped out on joining Az and me for lunch to shovel that bitch monster's driveway?"
"She's not a bitch, Rhys," he groaned, now setting the dish on the drying rack, finally able to put his hand to his phone. "She just doesn't like to be fake. There's a difference."
"Cass, she once called me a pompous, preening idiot who only studied Psychology to learn how people will react to what I'm wearing and how I look." Rhys's voice was low and entirely unamused.
Cassian couldn't help but laugh at the reminder. "I mean…was she entirely wrong?"
"Oh, shut up!"
He was still laughing slightly as he began to walk around his living room, a bit too energetic from the day. Too wound up from what may have been the best interaction with Nesta he'd ever had. He wanted more, and almost went to talk to her when he was done. But he was pretty sure he'd heard shouted cursing coming from inside, so he opted against it. Plus, his only excuse would have been to return the travel mug, and he really didn't want to do that.
Cassian knew he should, but how could he when it reminded him so much of her? Just a simple travel mug with the quote: 'The set of her chin suggested she might have slain a dragon before breakfast. The look in her eyes suggested she might, in fact, have eaten it.' It was as if she'd given him a piece of herself, and even if it was meant to be temporary, Cassian was going to hold on to it forever. To cherish it, in case it was the only piece she ever offered him.
"Cassian?"
Rhys's voice pulled him from his reverie. "Yeah?"
"I said: If you like her so much, why don't you just ask her out?"
"Oh…" Cassian expelled a loud breath. "Because I don't think she'd say yes."
"Then why not move on?"
"Because I'm not sure she would want to say no," he sighed, scratching his head with his free hand.
Rhys paused for a moment. "I can't tell if that's poetic or just fucking cryptic."
Laughing again, Cassian barely heard a knock at the glass doors behind him that led to his backyard. He looked up to see Nesta standing there, looking adorable all bundled up in a big, puffy vest over a fleece sweater.
"Hey, I gotta go. We'll have lunch soon. Not on a day where we were gifted a full foot of snow, yeah?"
"Wait, Cass-"
He didn't hear the rest as he hung up the phone, flashing Nesta a smile. Cassian sauntered over to the door and slid it open, stepping aside to let Nesta into his house. A respite from the cold.
"To what do I owe this pleasure?" he asked after he shut the door, spinning to face Nesta.
Nesta held up a plate in her mitten-covered hands he hadn't noticed she was carrying. "I made you cookies."
"You…what?"
Her lips twitched into a small smile as she huffed out a laugh. "I. Made. You. Cookies. A thank you, for my driveway." She shoved the plate at him far harder than most would when making such a nice gesture, but Cassian managed to catch it quickly before she completely dug it into his stomach.
"Thank you. And what exactly brought this on?" He felt his lips spread into a half-smile as he watched her, his eyes trailing the wisps of golden brown hair that had fallen out of the messy bun she was wearing. They framed her face beautifully, dancing against her beige skin and rosy cheeks.
"I told you. I'm thanking you for shoveling my driveway."
Cassian raised an eyebrow, giving her an incredulous look. "I thought that's what the tea was for?"
"You did my whole driveway," she countered, as if it explained everything.
"I did." Cassian's smile turned into a full on grin, taunting and playful. "You know, Nes, if this is an attempt to prove you can be nice, I don-"
"Oh, just shut up and accept the cookies." Cassian couldn't help but chuckle at her words and the sharp tone, in polar opposition to what she was trying to do. But, that was the Nesta he knew, and he loved it.
"Thank you for the cookies."
She gave him one stern nod and then a small smile broke out on her face. "They're gingersnap."
"Really?" he asked excitedly, looking down at the plate. "Those are my favorites!"
"I know."
Cassian's eyes snapped up to hers, his face softening as he stared into that sparkling, blue-grey gaze. He'd told her that, once. It must have been at least three years ago, just a few months after she'd first moved in. He invited her to the holiday party he was throwing - he, Rhys, and Az rotated who threw it each year - and was at the point of attempting to use the food to convince her to come. He'd promised there would be mountains of gingersnaps for that reason, though she didn't sound at all interested until he moved on to a guarantee that Az's girlfriend would be bringing peppermint bark. He's pretty sure that was the only reason she showed up - go figure she and Gwyn ended up becoming fast friends while Cassian still could barely get her to say hi to him.
And yet…there he stood, a plate of gingersnaps in his hand.
"You remembered?"
Nesta's smile widened slightly, brightening her entire face. Cassian could swear her eyes were actually twinkling as she looked at him. "I suppose I did."
He couldn't take his eyes off her. Couldn't stop gaping, not even as her smile shifted into a smirk and she said, "Far more personal than shoveling someone's driveway."
The words seemed to hit Cassian in the gut as a choked laugh escaped his lips. He was torn between amusement and despair. Was that really the only reason she'd done this? Chosen those cookies? It still meant she remembered his favorites. But…he was thinking she'd picked gingersnaps solely for his enjoyment. And now he couldn't tell if it was for that, or if it was solely to tease him and make a point.
Which is probably exactly what she wanted.
"I did remember that you hate that chore," he argued roughly, his voice a rasp.
"Oh, please Cassian. Who doesn't hate that one?"
He felt his eyes darken as she scoffed, and then he was trailing his gaze down her body, taking in every curve. Her outfit didn't exactly show them off the way some of her other clothes could. But, the cream of her sweater looked heavenly against her skin, and the pink that remained in her cheeks was tantalizing him in a way a soft flush really shouldn't. Plus, no amount of layers and down clothing could cover that generous bosom that Cassian had fantasized about far too many times.
She looked like a true snow bunny, and Cassian couldn't help but imagine what it might be like to get her to join him up at his small ski lodge. Alone, snuggling on the couch by a large fire. Teaching her to snowboard, maybe. Then finding other ways after dinner to completely tire her out.
He kicked those thoughts from his mind, not wanting to get too lost in them while Nesta was right in front of him.
Cassian placed the plate of cookies on the end table beside his couch and took a step toward Nesta. "So, you're saying that my favor wasn't as nice as yours?"
"I'm not saying anything." She shrugged, her voice light and amused. "Just that I made you your favorite cookies."
"How about I take you upstairs, then? To prove just how nice I can be, too."
He heard Nesta's breathing hitch, watched her throat as she swallowed heavily. Something in her demeanor changed entirely, her body stiffening, her smile falling. He even thought he could hear her heart start to beat faster, though he may have been confusing it with his own, which was definitely racing.
Nesta schooled her features soon enough, only just too slow to keep Cassian from noticing the shift.
"I doubt it would compare," she shot back, her voice a bit breathier than she likely meant it to be. It had Cassian inhaling sharply, summoning thoughts of hockey and blood and other things that would help him maintain control over a certain appendage.
"Only one way to find out."
That had Nesta huffing out a small laugh. "Goodnight, Cassian. Enjoy the cookies."
He followed her toward the door, holding it open as she started across his snow-covered lawn. "I definitely will!"
Tumblr media
A week passed, and every day Nesta found herself doing yet another unrequested favor for Cassian because he just wouldn't stop. And she couldn't let him win.
Earlier that day, Cassian showed up on her porch with a full case of her favorite Sauvignon Blanc. Likely in payback to Nesta leaving an entire rack of his favorite beer at his back door the day before.
So now she was standing at his island counter, helping him wrap presents so that he'd have some under his tree as part of her offer to help him decorate for the party he was hosting that night. Apparently 'Christmas trees just look better with some presents under them.' And Cassian was so trusting, he'd never consider putting out fake presents when having a large number of guests over.
She wasn't paying much attention to the task. Cassian was doing the wrapping. Nesta was more like an assistant. His 'little helper', as he kept saying - he even tried to put her in an elf hat to match the Santa hat he was wearing, but Nesta firmly shot that down.
Instead, she was trying to figure out when exactly she'd gotten to know Cassian so well. She hadn't realized she was taking note of everything she learned about him. And yet, Nesta wasn't sure she'd ever forgotten anything either. It seemed like she could remember every conversation they'd had, every little fact about him that he shared.
His favorite color? Red - preferably in the ruby, blood, or garnet shades, but anything that wasn't too light and pink or too brown would do. His favorite movie? He liked to claim it was 'Remember the Titans', but it was 'The Lion King' that he watched at least once every three months. Go-to takeout? Chipotle - not because he thought it was real or authentic Mexican, but he thinks it's spiced well and he likes the portion sizes and how easy it is to get double meat.
She knew he played hockey throughout college and had the chance to go into the professional league but chose instead to work as an architect. However, that didn't keep him from staying in shape, and he still followed the Rangers religiously. He was, apparently, a complete cliché in high school and totaled his first car within a month of getting it. But since then he'd become an exceedingly careful driver of both his truck and his motorcycle. She even knew that he spent his Tuesday and Thursday nights volunteering at a youth center, teaching the kids various forms of self-defense. Boys and girls.
Nesta could count on one hand the people she knew as well or better than Cassian, and it had her spiraling a bit. Was it because he was an open book? Did he just share too much about himself too often? Or was she paying more attention than she realized? And why would she do that? Unless she…wanted to know. And if she wanted to know, then…
She tried not to think about that. Cassian was her obnoxious yet amusing neighbor. The one who could make her laugh, but could also do with learning how to keep to himself a bit more.
"Scissors?" Cassian requested, holding his hand out as Nesta stood there, staring at no spot in particular on the chair on the opposite side of the counter. She handed him the scissors and barely heard the sound of him slicing the paper. Her eyes were glazed over, her mind racing. "Tape?"
Absent-mindedly, Nesta started tearing pieces of tape, holding them out for him. He used them quickly and then started on the ribbon.
"Finger?" She put her finger on the present and moved it a bit until she felt the cross section of the ribbon. "On the count of three. One…two…three!" Nesta yanked her finger out just as the ribbon came down.
"Great! Now, quick, kiss me!"
Nesta turned almost robotically, took his face between her hands, and pulled him down as she lifted herself onto her toes, pressing her lips to his.
It wasn't until she'd pulled away and was again looking at the chair that she realized what she'd done.
With widened eyes, Nesta pivoted on him, her focus now entirely on Cassian and what was happening in that moment. "What the hell?!" she asked, gaping at him as he shook with laughter.
"I just wanted to see what would happen," he explained, a wide smile on his face. "You were so…far away. I thought it might snap you back."
Nesta swallowed, nodding slightly as her eyes shrunk back to normal and her face fell into a more subdued look as she sighed, "Oh." She didn't know why a wave of disappointment was crashing through her. Why a pit seemed to sink into the depths of her stomach. But she kept her face flat, showing nothing more than indifference. "Odd experiment."
Cassian looked at her with furrowed brows, his head tilted slightly as his hazel eyes seemed to bore into her. "I figured it was a bit of a win-win." A smile slowly grew on his face. "Either I snap you back to reality or I get you to kiss me." He winked, another laugh bursting from his lips. "Seeing as I managed to do both, I must be a genius."
"Or just lucky."
"Oh, very lucky, Nes." He took a step closer, less than six inches separating their faces. "But, you weren't totally there for it. Perhaps we should try again?"
Nesta felt her eyebrows raise, her lips twitching up at the corners. "Excuse me?"
"Well, I mean…you weren't exactly present. It's like our friend Gale would say: 'It's like kissing someone who's drunk. It doesn't count.'" Cassian was grinning now, the gold in his eyes sparkling with amusement.
"Our friend Gale? As in Hawthorne?"
"You're the one who told me the books were better than the movies," he said. "What was I going to do? Not read them?"
She rolled her eyes, shaking her head slightly. "The books are always better than the movies."
"Yes. Because now I can discuss those with you too. And, since you're back, shall we do as Gale would suggest and try again?"
"You do realize that's not at all the point he's making? Right?"
He shrugged and laughed again. "That didn't answer my question, sweetheart."
"What would you rather I say?" she asked. Nesta could feel her mood lightening with each jab. Could feel her body warming slightly, her heart beating again at its normal pace. "Oh, please Cassian, let me kiss you. I'm devastated that I couldn't truly appreciate our first!" She let her head fall backwards a bit as she brought the back of her hand to her forehead, a dramatic gesture to accompany the swooning tone she used.
Cassian took in a deep breath and then stepped closer, moving them a bit so she was pinned against the counter, his hands resting on either side of her, caging her in. "I wouldn't be opposed," he whispered, his voice rough in a way Nesta hadn't heard before. It sent her heart racing, her mind beginning to wander toward thoughts she found herself needing to suppress more and more often in the past week.
"Well, t-too bad." She hadn't meant to stutter the words out, for her tone to be breathy. She attempted to cover it up by huffing out a laugh and lightly shoving him away with an amused smile.
Cassian played along, but she didn't miss the knowing look he gave her before chuckling with her and exaggeratedly stumbling back.
"That was the last present," he declared. "This place really does look great. Thank you for the help, Nes."
She looked around the open-plan area, the foyer and living room only separated by the large fireplace and chimney in the center of the room. There were pine garlands strung up on the railing to the stairs, a massive tree over in the corner, a few tables bedecked in matching, holiday-themed tablecloths with nutcracker and other Christmas-like centerpieces, and tons of red and green. It was, honestly, just on the right side of being tacky, entirely thanks to her. Were it not for Nesta, Cassian likely would have hung those cartoon cut-outs and put out multiple singing and dancing Santa and Mrs. Claus pairs.
"No problem. You know me. Always happy to help." She grinned over at Cassian as he let out a true, loud laugh. He threw his head back with the movement, as he liked to do, and Nesta couldn't help but eye his now-exposed neck, wonder what it would be like to trail her tongue up its column.
She shook her thoughts away before Cassian looked back at her and said, "I'm not complaining." He offered her a softer smile that warmed Nesta's chest. "Are you coming tonight?"
"Of course. As if I'd miss a party with Gwyn's peppermint bark."
"You know it's a Christmas sweater party, right?" he asked, following her as she made her way toward the back door where she'd left her boots and a wrapped box.
Nesta pulled on her boots as she replied with an, "I do." She then picked up the box and faced him again. "And, speaking of, this is for you. BUT!" She yanked the box away just as it brushed Cassian's fingers. "You can't open this and put it on until just before the party. I mean the-first-guests-are-arriving-now just before, okay?"
"That is the weirdest rule about a present I've ever heard." Yet despite his words, Cassian was giving her a half-smile, watching her and the present intently.
"Promise?"
"I promise."
Nodding, she placed the box in his outstretched hands. "Good. I will see you later, then."
"Is there a reason for this present I should be aware of?" he wondered as she slid the door open and stepped onto the snow-covered deck.
Nesta turned and looked up at him, happy to have an excuse to take in his face again. She loved the way it lit up when he was challenged and intrigued, how his gaze gleamed with joy and excitement. It was almost as arousing as when his eyes darkened and his rough lines grew even more intense.
"I already told you. I'm nice." She sent him a wink before pivoting and walking back to her own house to get ready for the party.
Tumblr media
The present was mocking him.
Everywhere Cassian turned, there it was, just waiting. Staring at him. Begging him to be opened.
It probably didn't help that Cassian carried it around with him for the rest of the day. He never even left his house, but if he left a room, the gift came with him. It was as if he feared it might get lost if it was ever out of reach.
It was as taunting as that kiss had been.
Gods, that kiss!
Even with Nesta's lack of mental presence it was still one of the best damn things Cassian had ever experienced. Her lips warm and soft, her fingers delicate yet electric, sending a spark through him at every point of contact. The moment she'd pulled away Cassian had wanted to grab her by the hair and bring her lips back to his, claim her mouth before he claimed every other part of her body.
He could only imagine what it might be like if Nesta wasn't operating on auto-pilot. How it would feel to have her truly kissing him. And he couldn't help but hope he might get that chance.
It was stupid, he knew, to let himself hope. This was Nesta Archeron, ice queen, impossible to fully read, and the woman he was certain would one day be his demise. Without even trying she had him by the balls, and somehow Cassian lived for it.
And yet, in the past week something had changed between them. There had always been a spark, a bit of a flirtation. Times Cassian thought he was getting close only to be pushed away - if he was lucky. But it was different this time. She didn't seem to be pushing or punching or kicking. She wasn't just retaliating or reciprocating, but some days Nesta was initiating, and Cassian barely knew what to do.
Tonight, however, he really couldn't be thinking about that. He had a party to host. One he couldn't screw up. His brothers would never forgive him.
So he cooked and prepared, the gift never out of his sight even as he tried to distract himself.
It didn't really work. And with each passing hour he grew more anxious, the desperation building until he heard a car pull into his driveway. Running to a window, Cassian looked out to see Rhys's car crawling into a park and let out a massive sigh of relief.
He went back into the kitchen and ripped the paper off the box, practically tearing it open to find a neatly folded Christmas sweater inside.
Pulling it out, a laugh escaped Cassian's lips as he looked over the red knit sweater. It was lined with green at each opening and had a few white and green, knit, horizontal patterns on it, such as snowflakes, Christmas trees, and even a big bow in the center at the top. However, the main show was the large words that said 'ON THE NAUGHTY LIST'. 'Naughty' was even emphasized with bolder lettering knitted into a large green stripe instead of the red of the rest of the sweater.
He could hear his brothers and their girlfriends walking up the steps, so he threw the sweater on, a massive grin on his face, and chucked the box and wrapping paper into his recycling bin quickly. He was just rounding the counter as his first guests - and co-hosts - walked into the house.
He greeted them excitedly, leading them into the living room area where he expected most to end up.
"Cassian, the place looks great!" Feyre exclaimed as he took their coats and put them in his office.
"You can thank your sister for that," he said, coming back in and helping Gwyn get a platter for her peppermint bark before he started to load the tables with the various plates he'd prepared.
Feyre and Rhys both snapped their gazes toward Cassian as Feyre asked, "Really?!"
Cassian nodded, unable to keep his smile in check. "Yeah. She was here for a few hours around midday, helping out with decorations and everything."
"That's so great! Does that mean she's coming tonight?"
"According to her. Though we may have Gwyn to thank for that one." Cassian threw a wink at the copper-haired girl. "You know how Nesta is about your peppermint bark."
"Why do you think I made so much this year?" She motioned to the platter that was practically overflowing, pulling a laugh from Cassian, Az, and Feyre.
Rhys, on the other hand, just sighed a, "Yay…"
"Oh, hush," Feyre scolded, nudging him in the stomach.
"I told you we could bring her gifts tonight."
"And I told you that I am seeing my sister on Christmas whether you like it or not." Feyre glared up at Rhys in a way that had him shrinking slightly and nodding.
Deciding he'd rather not end up in the middle of whatever may or may not be about to go down, he moved closer to Az and Gwyn to join them. They were wearing matching 'Mr. Claus' and 'Mrs. Claus' sweaters that were adorable as fuck and had Cassian's smile only growing. But he wasn't the only one focused on the sweaters.
Gwyn was staring at his, her eyes wide and full of something that seemed like shock.
Before Cassian could ask, Az was slapping him on the shoulder. "Great sweater. I appreciate the realism you're bringing to the traditional Christmas sweater party."
"Ha ha," Cassian grumbled.
"That is what I was going for," a familiar voice explained from behind Cassian.
He turned around and froze in place, completely struck dumb by the sight.
There, just before him, stood Nesta, looking like an angel. She let her hair partially down for the party, half of it braided into a crown around her head as the rest fell in loose curls. And the way the light hit it - she honestly looked like she had strands of pure gold in her honey brown hair. She was smiling gently up at him, but in those storm cloud eyes he could see a spark of mischief he was certain his own gaze was answering.
However, what really hit him in the gut was her sweater. The perfect opposite to Cassian's in every way. Where his was mostly red, hers was green. His green accents? Hers were in red. And instead of 'NAUGHTY', her sweater stated she was on the 'NICE' list. A matching set, and it sent his heart racing straight toward her.
Cassian could barely remember where he was, or who else was around him, his focus entirely on Nesta.
"Nesta! You look great!" Gwyn cheered, giving her friend a hello hug.
"Thank you! And same to you. Love the sweaters." She flicked her eyes between Gwyn and Az. "Very fitting. But, I wish you'd worn wigs."
Gwyn's eyes darted to Az, a scowl spreading on her face. "I wanted to."
"And I'm not sorry I said no," Az said with a shrug.
That sent Gwyn reeling, and the two of them broke away to taunt and tease each other, leaving Cassian with Nesta. However, before he had the chance to say anything, Feyre was there, practically jumping on her sister with a squeal.
Nesta laughed, the sound nuzzling Cassian's neck as he watched the two girls embrace.
"I'm so happy you came," Feyre sighed as she squeezed her sister tightly. "And…" Feyre paused, looking Nesta over before her gaze, so similar to Nesta's, flicked to Cassian and then back to Nesta. "You're matching Cassian."
"Technically, he's matching me."
"Technically, Nes here planned the whole thing and told me nothing." Cassian threw his arm around Nesta lightly, a thrill speeding through him when she didn't pull away.
Instead, she tilted her head to look up at him and gave Cassian a smirk. "I just thought it was a message everyone needed to see."
Cassian knew it was meant to be a challenge. Knew he was supposed to shoot something back at her. But in that moment he couldn't. He couldn't move or breathe or even think. All he could do was stand there and stare into those eyes, dancing with delight; take in that gorgeous face, merry and bright and tender. He almost fell to his knees at the way his heart swelled, at how his stomach flipped when her lips relaxed into a small smile that he knew was just for him.
She held his gaze and Cassian didn't dare look away. Not until a commotion at the front door snapped them both back to reality.
Sighing, Cassian went to greet his guests as Nesta gravitated back toward Gwyn. By the time he was back in the living room, the two girls were already situated by the fire, plates full of chocolate and other sweets, gossiping as if they hadn't seen each other in years.
He resigned himself to playing the host, knowing only an idiot would interrupt Gwyn and Nesta when they got like that.
Before Cassian knew it, almost two hours had passed. He'd barely seen Nesta in that time, stopping and chatting with all those who showed up. He knew Emerie would have found Nesta and Gwyn almost as soon as she got to the party, but now she was in the kitchen with Mor, her blonde girlfriend sitting on the counter, caged between Emerie's arms. He decided to look away quickly despite knowing neither of them cared who saw what they were about to do.
He looked out over the living room, thanking the Mother for his height. He could see his brothers currently betting on the outcome of an arm-wrestling match between Helion and Tarquin - apparently they were at that point in the evening, and it told Cassian he needed to check the cooler outside to see if the beer needed refilling.
Cassian was about to give up and go see what Jurian and Lucien were chatting about when he finally spotted her against the wall beside the back door. Her eyes were darting all over the room, her lips having fallen back into that indifferent grimace he knew so well.
He felt his face scrunch as he wondered what might have brought that on, but it didn't take long to figure it out. Not as he laid eyes on the man who stood before her, attempting to engage her in conversation. His arms were flat by his sides, but he was standing in a way that seemed to block Nesta from the rest of the party. Cassian knew Nesta could handle herself, and that she'd likely tear him a new one for stepping in, but he couldn't help himself. Not as he saw the slight hint of panic in her eyes.
"Nesta!" he called out loudly, ignoring the looks he got from the other guests as he pushed his way through them toward her. He took up the spot just beside her, his eyes not leaving hers for even a second. "There you are. I've been looking for you."
"Is everything okay?"
"Oh, of course!" Cassian gave her a wide smile, waving his hand as if he were swiping the air away. "I just think we need to let everyone see our sweaters in all their glory - together."
She huffed out a laugh, shaking her head softly and looking toward the ground. It provided Cassian the opportunity to look at the man in front of them. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't pleased by the shocked, almost fearful look in his eyes as he took in their matching outfits.
"Tomas," Cassian ground out, looking the shrinking man over.
The mousey brown haired man gave Cassian an awkward nod. "Cassian. Good to see you. Great party."
"Thank you." He didn't bother trying to hide the tension in his voice. "I don't recall inviting you, though."
"Eris said it was an open house."
"It's not."
"Noted." Tomas looked between Cassian and Nesta again and took a step back. "I'll just be going then."
Cassian waited until Tomas was out of eyesight before he turned to Nesta. "Sorry about that. Hope you don't mind me stepping in." He rubbed the back of his neck, suddenly feeling a bit sheepish, even without Nesta glaring at him.
Instead, to his surprise, she offered him a small smile. "It's okay. I'm just glad to be rid of him. I know I should be telling you off, but honestly, he gave me the creeps and I didn't feel like I could get away without making a scene. Which I didn't want to do."
"Just doing my part as the king of being nice." He threw her a cocky half-smile, his entire body relaxing as she rolled her eyes.
"I'd remind you that I'm the nice one," she countered, pointing at her sweater for emphasis.
Cassian leaned one hand against the wall, sure to keep his body perpendicular to it so Nesta always had an out. "Well, after that, perhaps we should trade sweaters, because I think I'm in the lead now. Besides…" he leaned in so that his lips were at her ear and whispered, "I wouldn't mind seeing you be naughty."
A hmmm escaped Nesta's lips in a low, sultry tone that had Cassian throbbing beneath his belt. "How do you know that's not what I was hoping for when I gave you that sweater?"
That was enough to break his restraint. Cassian's free hand was suddenly gripping Nesta's waist as he pushed her against the wall. She gasped loudly, the corners of her lips curving upward as he held himself flush against her.
"Like this?" he growled.
He inhaled sharply as she trailed her hands up his chest and around his shoulders, settling them at the nape of his neck. "It's a start."
Cassian felt his eyes darken, letting out a hiss as he lunged forward and captured her mouth with his.
To his great surprise and delight, Nesta didn't pull away. Instead, she seemed to tug him closer to her as she brushed her tongue against his lips in a silent request. One he was all too keen to answer.
He kissed her ardently, his grip tightening at her waist as his other hand left the wall, his fingers gripping her hair at the back of her head. She moaned at the feeling and Cassian pressed himself harder against her, leaving no air between them.
There were no words, nothing Cassian could compare this kiss to. It was wholly new. It was the first read through of a book that would become an all-time favorite. The first glimpse of the ocean in person. Finally reaching the peak of a mountain or the overlook of a new hike.
It took his breath away, to hold Nesta so close, to feel her lips moving against his, to feel her body heat-
"CASSIAN!"
He started, jumping back as Nesta pulled away, a frown falling on her face as she looked around toward where the shout had come from.
Cassian groaned, knowing exactly whose voice that had been. "Go away, Rhys."
"But, we need you! Tarquin is, surprisingly, undefeated and I've lost too much money. I need you to whip his…arm…" Cassian didn't miss the slight slur to Rhys's words, not that he bothered even looking at his brother.
"I'm a little busy," he spat, turning his face just enough to show Rhys he was addressing him. "In fact, I think it's time we call it a night."
Rhys stilled beside him. "What?"
"Yep. Party's over!" Cassian all but shouted the last two words, finally turning to look around at the living room. "Sorry friends, I love having you, but if we go on too much longer I'll end up annoying the neighbors."
The party had already cleared out somewhat, but the remaining guests grumbled slightly as they collected their things. Save for Az and Gwyn, who were both wagging their eyebrows at Cassian and Nesta.
Cassian turned back to Nesta, a hand resting at her waist again. "Except you…you stay," he declared in a low voice.
She smirked up at him, meeting his gaze, her own dark with desire.
"Well, what are we supposed to do now?" Rhys practically whined even as Feyre appeared at his side to tug him away.
Cassian didn't take his eyes off Nesta as he responded, "First, Feyre drives. Beyond that, I don't really care. Go sleep with your girlfriend, that's what I plan to do."
There were no more protests as Feyre captured Rhys's attention and led him out of the house, the last to leave.
Nesta tilted her head. "Girlfriend? I don't recall agreeing to that."
"I know," he grunted, pressing his body against hers again. "Let's call it a Christmas wish."
She sighed out an "ahh" as she lifted her head, the corner of her lips curved upward. "I suppose you have been fairly nice this year." She trailed her hands up his arms as she spoke, resting them right back where they'd been at his neck.
"Some might even say very," he purred, leaning down and pressing his lips to her neck.
She let out a sound between a gasp and a yelp at the feeling, which then turned into a soft laugh. "I guess Santa Nesta can keep it under consideration."
"Oh?" He dragged his teeth up the column of her neck. "Does that mean I have to wait until Christmas to see if Santa Nesta will grant my wish?" He nipped at her ear.
"I'm afraid so," Nesta breathed, her voice raspy in a way that had Cassian's pants tightening. "Though, you might be able to expedite the decision."
Cassian kissed down her jaw and then took her bottom lip between his teeth, tugging lightly on it. "And how might I do that?"
"Well, you see, Santa Nesta isn't as discriminating against the naughty." Cassian's eyes met Nesta's again, a flame dancing in them that sparked something deep within Cassian. "In fact, come nighttime, she often prefers it, and will likely grant many wishes to those who can be naughty enough to please her."
"Good thing I'm on the naughty list." Cassian kissed Nesta deeply, his hands brushing down her body until they reached her thighs. "I guess it's time to show you why."
He tightened his grip and lifted her easily. Nesta squealed at the movement, even as she wrapped her legs around his waist.
Cassian paused, staring up into Nesta's eyes, drowning himself in that blue-grey sea, admiring the way she seemed to shine beneath his gaze. Leaning in, he kissed her again, and then carried her up into his room and toward a new future he couldn't wait to begin.

Already finished Coteries of New York, so on to Shadows of New York! I’ve seen the first bit in an LP, at least, but the bulk of the story will be new. This will have two playthroughs, one for each ending, since at least it has them XD First up - the ‘good’ ending!
Oh dang I like the music.
Julia is a bit on the edgy/cynical side XD
Yeah, she’s got a shit deal :-\ And what’s worse is that it’s all planned out.
Interesting note - at Lodestar, there were shadowy figures in the background, but you could rationalise it as people on the other side of the windows. On the train, you only see the shadowy features, and it’s otherwise empty, so no obvious figures casting them...
I guess if you choose the ‘don’t shoot’ option, Julia gets drained and it’s an early game over?
God that Embrace scene is intense. I got goosebumps!
Spirits, huh? Oh yeah, Obtenebration became Oblivion and is now connected with necromancy, IIRC?
I’m glad she had a good few nights XD;;
Valerie Duval, she was... the scourge in CoNY hunting down the Red Hook killer?
Nice to meet you, ‘Katherine Wiese’ XD
Cool ponytail, Qadir! I really dig the relationship between him and Julia, it’s fun. ‘sup Aisling, how’s Agathon? A blood hunt, really? Y O U. Okay yeah probably better for Julia’s long-term survival for Arturo to ignore her XD;; Samira’s so pretty. Ooh this guy is Hope’s sire, yeah?
“You wanted to hear about which member of New York City's Camarilla I dislike the most?"
"Yes?"
"Too bad. They're all my dear colleagues, and I deeply respect every single one of them."
"Sure you do. Wouldn't want to blurt out something that could lock you out of Mr Vanderweyden's legal services, would you, you ass-kisser?"
"I do expect to find myself in need of a good defense attorney when my broke, incompetent, and foul-mouthed assistant finally pushes me over the edge."
THEMST.
Benoit hi!! “Got any news about Sophie Langley?” *sharp intake of breath* Benoit backstory, that’s rad. I wonder if it’ll be uncovered in-game? Like we know Arturo is still around, Panhard is still around. Presumably Adelaide Davis is still around. Callihan... well, I know what happens to him. I think Torque ditches the scene before Sophie dies?
Father Leonard seems like a good sort. I wonder what his deal is?
Dakota is adorable. I’m going to do the ‘good’ end first even though I know it’ll make me feel horrible, but dangit, the ‘bad’ end is totally going to be my canon.
...Vin Diesel? XD
DING DONG THE DOUCHE IS DEAD. ...Deader than usual, I mean.
jfc Panhard that is pretentious as hell. Both the party description and the costume, actually XD Qadir’s mask is kind of funky. Oh my god Arturo you are a Toreador is that the best you can come up with?! Nice horns, Aisling.
...Thought, given their clans, Samira/Aisling could be interesting as hell.
Man, Arturo and Panhard must be pissed off XD Unless they’ve already picked their replacement stooge?
And here’s where the plot starts! Hey, isn’t that the priest’s house? Ohh, they’re meant to be meeting with Mia. I guess they’re just reusing assets.
“It’s a list of four names. ‘D’Angelo. Hope. Agathon. Tamika.’“ *SHARP INTAKE OF BREATH* Okay, that could be the list Sophie gave the fledgling. Which one did Callihan get it from?
Oh criminy Dakota don’t tell me you’re into that Q-Anon shit XD;; Ooh okay that makes more sense. Neat.
Ahhh man I was hoping to get a lead and instead Julia has to punish this poor fuck XD;; Yeesh. Okay, Bunny as a Reporter it is, then.
Almost run over by a limo, huh? *chinstroke*
Oooh this is the lead to Hope! Yeah, I’d say she has a connection with a Montgomery XD Wonder if she did end up eating her? Huh, contact used LeakyGutSyndrome... didn’t Hope end up having to retire that one, or was it the other one? Let’s just... Dominate this guy. Sorry dude it’s for your own good.
Agathon’s missing? :( Damn, he’s like one of the only decent Tremere. Oho, a diary! Oh sweetheart :( Oh, Silvia died :( Damn, interesting past, though... and a reference to CoNY again.
Fucking shadows, I literally glanced over my shoulder.
S C H E M E S. And yeah, looks like I’m on my way to the ‘good’ end :-\
Oh shit, Adelaide or.... whatshisname, Kaiser’s dude? Oooh man who to meet first... Kaiser’s dude. Oh. That was a bit anticlimactic XD
On to see Hope at Double Spiral. I think this is one of those choices that leads to one of the endings, so what’s more ruthless and Camarilla... busting in it is.
Nastya isn’t having a good night, is she XD;; Also Hope’s suit is badass.
...huh. Sounds like she’s actually managed to get shit sorted decently XD
Interesting... the coterie members were a list of heroes for hire that multiple people had, including Sophie. Well, that widens the scope a bit! Anonymous information broker, shall I assume that’s Kaiser? OH. No, it’s her sire!
“The story going around is, he left me alone and I hate his guts. Well, at least half of that is true.” Which half, though...
Aww man I wish I had saved some of those websites! I miss SciFiVine...
You know, I’m not 100% sure Carter’s the murderer (my main suspect is Arturo at this point tbh) but damn, the bit about Stern’s show kinda makes me want to slap him anyway XD;;
Queer Catholic blues, huh :-\
“Haven’t you noticed what’s going on in the news? People are going absolutely insane about this virus, cancelling trips and orders and --” Ahh. We’re in that 2020 XD;;
Okay the scene with the kid meeting his girlfriend was cute but then spooky time?? jfc was that the Abyss?!
Ooooh did she just find Tamika solely by accident? Thanks, Abyss XD I love how Julia’s first response is ‘shit, she’s hot’. And she took out a whole SI squad herself? Nice. Calebros mention! Huh, so the SI are maintaining the status quo... they became an issue because the Camarilla tried to sic them on the Anarchs and Sabbat and it backfired, maybe it actually succeeded here?
Ooh, a history with Torque. Neat. Also not sure with the art, but are those tattoos on Tamika’s arm, or fur? I mean, Gangrel beast marks and all.
Sorry Torque I’m just trying to get the ‘good’ end :(
Mention of the fledgling! Officially ‘disappeared’, that leaves it fairly ambiguous at this point.
Oof. The Circulatory System are... not cool. And yeah Julia’s just been called tf out, I do look forward to this scene in the ‘bad’ end XD;;
COVID strikes back. The Big Beat Burger is closed :( Charlie is sweet, at least! I hope his mom is okay.
Well that rat bit was weird. Hi D’Angelo! Oh my god blood doll rats? Drunk blood doll rats?! Still a damn good detective, though, that’s good shit. On to Kaiser and some answers! ...Yeah, okay, he’s a prime suspect too.
Kaiser, you are a deeply unpleasant person :-\
...good to know pepper spray still works. And, uh, probably satisfying to beat him up XD;; And yeah, there’s the last choice for the ‘good’ ending. Sorry dude.
...huh. Okay, I was at least partially right XD;; Oh Qadir, not you too :-\
Well that’s a bit... weird of Dakota, yes.
lmao oh Benoit you absolute mess. Religion as A E S T H E T I C XD I have a theory he’s from Michael’s line and I also quite sincerely believe that Michael would take one look at him and bitchslap him into the next millennium. He’s a Path follower, isn’t he?
Father Leonard is okay. I wonder who the ‘friend’ is?
This is very Agatha Christie, revealing the killer in the midst, except I have the horrible feeling Qadir’s going to go with ‘it was suicide’ and not ‘it was everyone’.
Denouement! Before it ends, Julia’s traits:
Loyal only to myself
Glass half-empty
A little abuse of power never hurt nobody
You can’t be a writer and not lie
The ends justify the means (duh)
Honestly she may have just blackmailed her way into power, set up Carter to take the fall, and sent poor Dakota to final death, but the drama was impeccable XD Good luck not ending up in the Abyss, Julia!

Something About You - Duff McKagan [part 1]
A/N: It's probably really bad. I hope y'all enjoy it.
L E N G T H: 1,196 words
W A R N I N G: language
Plopping down on a bench out and slowing running my fingers through my hair, I grunted in frustration while holding one of my math assignments. I one was Mr. Clarke's top students and always got above 85 on almost everything. Everything was quite easy, all you have to do is stay focused, pay attention, and ask questions, but now Mr. Clarke wanted to put us to the test and see if were pay real close attention. I've always been for a challenge, but this time he set the bar way too high. I knew there was nothing I could do about it and that I should just suck it up.
Being too busy fussing over my assignment, I hadn't noticed that my best friend sat next to me.
''Hey, [Y/N]. What's the matter?'' his he leaned forward with hands on his knees. He adjusted his eyes on the paper and snatched it out of my hands.
"Give back, man!"
"What the hell is this? Jesus, [Y/N], Mr. Clarke really went all out this homework." He chuckled and handed the paper back.
"Tell me about it." I shook my head and stomped my foot.
"Duff, can you help with this? I can't just go to Mr. Clarke and tell him that I can't do this. He'll lower my grade! My parents will kill me!"
Duff lit up a cigarette and took a puff, "Calm down, [Y/N]. You'll be fine. One failed homework assignment doesn't mean it's the end of the world. Besides, we don't hang out as much as we used to anymore. You're always studying and rarely call me unless you need something."
I sighed and shook my head in regret, he was right. I was always trapped inside, forcing myself to study as hard and long as I could just to satisfy my parents. I realize now how blind I've been these past few years.
"You're not as energetic and happy as you were when we were in 8th grade. I miss that and I miss you." Taking a long drag of his cigarette, he stood up.
"Duff, I'm sorry. I really am. I should've realized earlier. Hug..?"  He smiled and nodded, getting closer. We wrapped our arms around each other, feeling each other's warmth. Pulling away, I slid my hand into my pockets, "I'm gonna call you tonight, Duff. And it's something important, but I can't say it here 'cuz it's kinda weird. Also if I forget to call you, then call me." He nodded and walked off.
"Do you she'll go to prom this year?"
"She won't, she's too worried about her books." Their faces saddened.
All these voices similar, high-pitch. Turning my head, I spotted the popular girls: Lisa, Katherine, Kelly, Monica, and Karen.
Pressing my lips into a fine line, I packed up my stuff as quickly as I could to go home.
"Hey, [Y/N]. Are you going to prom this year?" the leader of these mindless slaves, Katherine, asked.
I pressed my lips into a fine line, ''Well, I don't kno-"
"You should, like, totally come with us! It's gonna be really fun!!" Katherine spoke.
"Really, guys..? I don't know if I should.
"Aww, come on [Y/N], don't be such a buzzkill!" Monica complained, placing her hand on her hip.
"Well, you see, I already had someone in mind to go with." They all squealed in excitement.
"Who is it?!! We gotta know!!" Their eyes were all over me, examining every inch.
"It's a surprise. You guys will have to be there to see.
"You're such a fucking tease, [Y/N]!" We all laughed. Katherine pulled out a little slip out of her mini purse and handed it to me.
"We'll see you there!" Katherine winked.
I got home and dashed up the stairs to my room. Locking my bedroom door, I made my way to my nightstand, where my lamp and radio stayed, next to it was my wooden crate full of my favorite records. I turned on my radio and tuned it to my favorite rock music station. My favorite host on, Kevin.
"Here's Foreigner."
Feels like the First Time starting to play. I jumped and turned the knob of the small machine that radiate music. The music started to burst out. I sang along, smiling from ear to ear.
I would climb any mountain
Sail across the stormy sea
If that's what it takes me baby
To show how much you mean to me
And I guess it's just the woman in you
That brings out the man in me
I know I can't help myself
You're all in the world to me
I sang as I jumped on my bed, my hairbrush in hand.
It feels like the first time
Feels like the very first time
It feels like the first time
It feels like the very first time
I have waited a lifetime
Spend my time so foolishly
But now that I found you
Together we'll make history
And I know it must be the woman in you
That brings out the man in me
I know I can't help myself
You're all my eyes can see
I smiled widely, moving side to side with the rhythm. Time flew by as I sang my heart out to the song. I leaned back and fell back, my body hitting my bed as I giggled. I extended my arm over my head to the knob of the radio, turning my hand counter-clockwise to lower the volume. My heart was pumping from my mini jam out session I just had. I decided to calm down a bit by taking a few breaths. Time slowed down as my breaths got longer and longer, my eyes began to droop. My mouth slowly opened, letting out a yawn. Turning to side my to my side, I wrapped my blanket around my figure and lost the battle I fought with melatonin.
T I M E  S K I P
My ears picked up the sound of a telephone. My eyes slowly opened to see that it was my phone that was ringing. I reached over and pulled the handset towards the side of my face.
"Hello..?" I mumbled in a sleepy tone.
"Um. [Y/N]. You were supposed to call me a few hours ago. It's 11."
"11! How the fuck is it 11? I could've not slept for that long, did I?"
" I suppose you did. So what was the important thing you wanted to tell me?"
"Promise you won't hang up on me when I tell, okay?"
He laughed, "Why would I hang up?"
"Because it's weird and I don't know how you'll react."
"C'mon, [Y/N]. Let it out."
"Fine. I was wondering if you would like to go to prom with me..?"
"Oh, damn. [Y/N]... um."
I bit my bottom lip as I waited for another response.
"Are you sure?" his voice sounded uneasy, but hesitant.
"Y-yeah." my lips pressed into a fine line as pondered what to say and how to react.
"Ahhh, I don't know, [Y/N]. I don't really like public events like that. I'm sorry."
"Hey, no need to apologize. I totally get it." I nodded my head as I spoke
"Yeah, I'm sorry, [Y/N]... I gotta go now. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Yeah.. see ya." I hung up.
To Be Continued...

Hiya Sophie🥰 how are you? Could I please request Jack Kelly x reader where he’s being touchy and begging for them to love him but reader is busy with school so they don’t give him enough attention? And then Jack gets super quiet and when reader is done with hw, reader feels super bad about not giving Jack enough attention, they treat Jack with cookies they’ve made and talk about this and the two of them end up cuddling the whole night sharing sweet kisses. Jack lays his head on reader’s chest🥺
Hey! I’m doing pretty good, what about you? Thank you for the request! Sorry for the wait, I’ve been a little pre-occupied, but I hope this is something like what you had in mind! <3
“Haha, yeah we’ll see you later, Finch!” You laughed and waved as your friend said his goodbyes and turned down his street.
“Oh thank GOD he’s gone!” Your boyfriend, Jack, said as soon as Finch was out of earshot. You and him and about a dozen other friends always walked home after school together, one by one peeling off from the group as they reached their streets. Finch was the third to last to turn onto his street, which left you and Jack to walk the rest of the way to your homes, (which is actually how you started dating in the first place). Jack, who was usually happy to have friends around, had seemed restless to get away from the group today, and once he was positive Finch couldn’t see or hear you, he pinned you against the stone wall the two of you were passing on the sidewalk. He passionately kissed you and for a moment you completely lost yourself in his rough lips that tasted of cherry coke and the cigarette he had shared with Race at lunch. Then you reminded yourself that you had some homework to complete and a test to study for.
“Jack,” You gasped when he pulled back for air and began to nibble at your ear. “Jack, Jack I don’t have time.” Jack pulled back without removing his hands from where they held your wrists against the wall and squinted at you.
“What are you talking about?” You snapped your wrists forward and glared at him as you began to walk again, him following at your side with the same look on his face.
“I have homework.” Jack stopped completely and you turned back to look at him.
“The fuck you don’t,” Jack said, obviously pissed at you, and that was rare, so it made you pretty uncomfortable, you had to admit. “You finished your math in class, you told me at lunch. Your history project isn’t due for a literal month and you’re already almost done with your poster. You wrote this week’s homework essay for English on Monday night.” He walked slowly, listing everything off on his fingers.
“Well there is more math,” You said defensively, as the pair of you turned a corner onto your block.
“More math? What the-oh my god the EXTRA CREDIT PACKET?!” He looked at you like you were insane and you bit your lip and looked at the concrete. “Y/N, you’re a straight-A student. You don’t need the extra credit. And even if you still wanted it ‘just in case,’“ He imitated you as he followed you up the stairs to your front door. “You literally have all semester to turn it in, and it’s FRIDAY. It’s FRIDAY! Can we not just relax and do couple things for ONCE.” He said, turning around to look at you while you shut your front door behind you. You glared at him. He KNEW how important school was for you and how much you stressed about getting all your work in on time, why was he being so rude about it?
“I also have science,” You responded, pushing past him and into your dining room to pull your laptop and textbook out of your bag and set on the table. Jack loudly threw his bag on the table in front of you and headed into the kitchen.
“Please tell me your kidding,” He said, popping open a can of Pepsi. You flipped through your textbook pages angrily, upset that he didn’t seem to get it.
“No, I’m not kidding.” You said sharply, only turning to look at him once you’d said it, just able to catch the sad, exhausted look on your boyfriend's face. You felt guilty, but before you could apologize, his face hardened again.
“Y/N I WAS UP TILL 3 AM YESTERDAY HELPING YOU WITH YOUR SCIENCE PROJECT. HOW DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING ELSE TO DO?” He yelled, which made you shrink a little as you typed your password into your laptop, but then your blood boiled.
“YES AND I AM GRATEFUL FOR THAT, BUT THERES A TEST ON MONDAY-”
“ON MONDAY?” Jack stepped up on the chair next to you and sat on the table and closed your computer in an attempt to get you to look at him, but you just crossed your arms and stared at the logo on the top of your computer. “Y/N, please, you can study all weekend for that, when your parents get back? Cmon, right now we have a little alone time and I really need-”
“Everything to be about you?” You whipped your head up to look at him. His eyes looked hurt, but you weren’t going to take it back.
“No, I’m sorry, I just, I’m really-”
“Annoying.” You glared at him, and then it was Jacks' turn to shrink, but he didn’t boil back, and you felt a twinge of guilt. “Look, just, just give me an hour.” You opened your laptop back up while Jack slumped over, flicking his pop tab in defeat. After a few minutes of the “tingggggg” noise echoing in the quiet room, you reached over, without looking up from your screen, and placed your hand on top of his fingers to stop the flicking. You kept it their longer then you meant to, and Jack rubbed your knuckles with his thumb, lightly squeezing your hand. You pulled it away abruptly, and wouldn’t let yourself look at the heartbroken look on his face.
Awhile later your phone buzzed for what felt like the thousandth time from your laptop bag and you couldn’t take it anymore. You ripped your bag across the table and dug around for it in the front pocket.
“Why the hell do you keep calling me?” You said sharply into your phone.
“I was calling to ask you why the hell Jack has been active on Instagram for the past three and a half hours?” Katherine matched your tone on the other end. You pulled your phone back from your ear to look at the time and cringed when you realized how much you’d gone over your hour. Jack had walked off into your bedroom what you thought was a few moments ago but was actually two hours ago. You were still annoyed though, and Katherine being so nosy didn’t help.
“I don’t know,  he just is,” You said snarkily. “I’m studying,”
“Your parents are out of town and you SERIOUSLY, SERIOUSLY are studying on a Friday night instead of spending time with your boyfriend?” She sounded shocked, and you didn’t appreciate her judgment.
“Look, Kath, I-”
“Especially after he got fired yesterday.” Your heart dropped.
“Wait, what?” You prayed that you had misheard her.
“Yeah, I guess he forgot to call in yesterday, so when he didn’t show up his boss told him to, and I quote, ‘not bother showing up anytime after that either.’“ Katherine explained exasperatedly. You wanted to vomit. “Wait, how did you not know about this?”
“Um, ahhh, I gotta go,” You said, standing up quickly and hanging up as you walked towards your bedroom. You slid your phone into the pocket of your jeans and lightly tapped the closed door to open it a smidge. Jack was sitting on your bed, on the phone with someone, his back propped up against the wall, looking out the window with his forearms resting on his knees which were bent up so his feet were on top of your comforter. You pushed your door open a little more to see that he had taken his shoes off so he didn’t get dirt on your bed, which he knew you detested. A small smile pulled at the edges of your cheeks; even who he was upset with you, he went out of his way to please you. He was so selfless. Your smile fell. And because of that selflessness, he had ended up sacrificing his job to help you out. You looked back at your laptops glowing screen in the dark dining room, the blue light reflecting off the cover of your textbook. School stressed you out so much. So, so much. You had always been a very good student, but a slight dip in your performance the semester before had lead to a stern talking-to from your parents that made you absolutely terrified to get anything lower than a perfect 4.0.
You looked back at Jack, who was still on the phone, flicking paint out from under his nails, oblivious to you in the doorway. He gets that, you thought to yourself. Jack understood the pressure from your parents and the immense fearful stress school put you under. Jack was always willing to be a supportive boyfriend, no matter how hard you made it.
“Oh yeah, no (he’s/she’s/they’re) busy studying right now. (He’s/She’s/They’re) really stressed about school,” Jack said into the phone. “Hey, hey, (his/her/their) parents are really strict and put on a lot of pressure, it’s not (his/her/their) fault. Besides, I’ve never seen you turn in homework once so shut up.” Oh my god, You thought, feeling yourself tear up. He was literally standing up for you over something that you had just argued about, and on top of it, he didn’t know you were watching him, so he did this out of sheer integrity. You let your guard down for a second and let out a loud sniff, and immediately darted behind the door, hoping he didn’t see you. He continued talking to whoever it was he was on the phone with, causing you to let out a sigh of relief. Then you just stood there for a moment, unsure of what to do. You peaked around the door again, just as he started to laugh.
“Hahaha, yeah me too, I haven’t had dinner yet, I’m starved.” For a moment you felt even more guilty, knowing he was waiting for you to eat, but then you felt a light bulb click on over your head. You headed into the kitchen and began to quietly open and shut cabinets, gathering the ingredients you knew you would need to surprise Jack. Your boyfriend was often fairly mysterious, but one thing everyone could tell you about him was his obsessive and at times even frightening love of snickerdoodles. As you quietly dumped cups of flour into a bowl, you couldn’t control the small giggle that escaped your mouth as you remembered what an important role snickerdoodles had played in your relationship.
“You have some snickerdoodle crumbs on your lips,” Jack had said after diving into the cookies you had made for him on his birthday. But before you could reach for a napkin, he had stopped you. “Actually, let me take care of that.” And the next thing you knew you were having your first kiss with Jack Kelly.
You carefully pulled the pan of cookies out of the oven and slid them onto a plate. You clicked the oven off and picked up the plate, your hands protected by polka-dot oven mitts. You knew you should probably wait for them to cool, but you were too impatient. You walked over to your bedroom and bumped the door open with your hip. Jack’s phone call had ended awhile ago, and he was laying on his back on your bed, his knee propped to support the notebook he was drawing on with the stub of a pencil. He looked up when you walked in, and quickly set aside the drawing materials.
“Snickerdoodles?” He looked at the plate and then back up at you. “I always welcome humankind's best invention but what is the occasion?”
“A sincere apology,” You said, you had practiced what you were going to say while you were baking.
“Oh no, I’m sorry, you don’t have to-” Jack started, shaking his head.
“No, I do.” You said, setting the plate on your comforter and gesturing for him to take a cookie. “I was being a self-centered asshole, and for that, I am so deeply sorry.” Jack began to shake his head again as he slowly broke his snickerdoodle in half.    “No, I was.” You said, sliding your hand under his chin and lifting it up so he was looking you in the eye. “I am so sorry about your job, Jack. That was completely my fault and I take full responsibility. I promise I will call your boss and try and talk him into taking you back, and if he won’t I will find you another job. A good one, that you like. I promise.” Jack set his cookie back on the plate and turned his head away and swallowed hard. You moved the plate to the floor and reached your arms around his shoulders to pull him closer to you.
“You are just so selfless. Truly, the sacrifices you make for everyone else, without a second thought amaze me. If you lost your job to help me with a science project, I cannot imagine the other things you have given up to make other people even the slightest bit happier.” You heard Jack choke into your shoulder, and you planted a soft kiss on his head. “You are the best person I know, Jack Kelly.” And with that, your boyfriend let out a broken sob and his shoulders began to shake as he cried. You slowly leaned back on your bed so that Jack’s head rested on your chest and his tears dripped onto your T-shirt. You rubbed his back and kissed his head, careful to be delicate. Eventually, his sobs stopped and the two of you sat in connected silence.
“Where are those snickerdoodles?” Jack sniffed. You laughed.
“They’re on the floor.” You lifted your arms so he could lean down and get them. He picked the plate up and set it up over your shoulder, grabbing the one he broken in half earlier. He kissed you sweetly before laying back down on your chest and nibbling on the cookie contentedly. You looked down at him with a warm smile on your face and in your heart.
“I love you, Jack.”
“I love you too, Y/N.”

“I never say no to a picnic.”
Two things - this is 2400 words because I cannot write anything short. Also there are a couple of cuss words throughout this. Enjoy and let me know what you think!!
It was a week until college graduation and all that stood between her and walking across that stage were four exams. To say that she was stressed would be putting it lightly. So when Jack showed up at her apartment with a picnic basket, a backpack, and a plea to join him she merely smiled and said, “I never say no to a picnic.”
“I’ve got one rule, though.” Jack offered her his arm, as they left the apartment.
Kat looked at him with an eye raised. “And what would that be?”
“No talking of school, graduations, exams …. nothing. This is supposed to help you relax and take your mind off of next week.” He grinned. “So do we have a deal?”
Kat giggled, leaning over to kiss his cheek. “How are you so perfect, Jack Kelly?”
“Well after dating you for the last six years, I’d hope I’m pretty perfect, for you.” He grinned, getting a smile out of her. “Deal?”
She nodded. “Deal.”
He led her down into the Washington Square subway station before grinning. “Do you trust me?”
“After 6 years, I better or what the hell am I doing with my life?” She grinned, scanning her MetroCard as he did the same, before taking her hand and leading her to the correct platform.
They waited for the C train to arrive. “Brooklyn, what are we doing in Brooklyn?”
“Spot would be very disappointed to hear you dissing Brooklyn like that.” Jack teased, tugging her close to him.
She huffed, giving him a look. “There was no dissing as you put it. I was merely asking a question.”
Their train came and they boarded before finding two vacant seats. “I know I’m going to break your rule but since I haven’t seen you in four days, how was your week?”
“I’ll let it slide because we’re not at our destination yet but it was good. The exam I was worried about was a piece of cake.” Jack let his voice soften. “The professor wants to meet with me on Thursday about a potential side gig.”
Her eyes went wide, as she squeezed his hand. “That’s amazing, Jack.”
“Don’t get so excited yet. It could be me shooting his daughter’s wedding for all I know.” He grinned. “But it is pretty exciting. He knows I’ve been hired by The Times but he said he wouldn’t take up much of my time.”
Kat leaned closer to him, kissing his cheek. “I’m so proud of you, Jack. These last four years have been crazy but you’ve grown just as much as the rest of us. Congratulations, this is so well deserved.”
“Don’t go throwing me a party or anything.” Jack kissed her cheek. “But we’ll see what happens on Thursday. Also, talk about proud, I’m so proud of you Katherine Plumber. A journalist at The Times - you’re going to be amazing.”
She blushed, looking down at the ground. “It’s pretty surreal. Dad wasn’t happy but what can I do? I just told him to be quicker next time.”
“He's going to try to steal you away.” Jack chuckled, shaking his head.
Kat laughed. “He’s going to have to be willing to shell out the big bucks.”
They swayed back and forth with the train as it moved through the city. As they left the previous station, Jack leaned close. “The next one is our stop.”
Gathering their things, they exited the train, Jack taking the lead and her hand, guiding her through exiting the subway station into the bright sunshine. She quickly threw on her sunglasses, happy to follow Jack wherever he’d lead her.
A few minutes after exiting the station, he led her to a park, throwing his arms wide open in excitement. “Welcome to Fort Greene Park. Ever been here?”
“I can say I have.” Kat looked around the wide open green space with a grin. “It’s gorgeous.”
Jack grabbed a blanket from his backpack before flinging it open across the grass, settling down on it before patting the space beside him. “And full of history too, which is why I brought you here.”
He started unpacking the picnic basket while Katherine watched with wide eyes at the amount of stuff he packed. “So I went with a mixture of our favorites - cold pasta salad, sliced meats, cheese and crackers, variety of fruits and veggies, and for dessert, two slices of mom’s famous strawberry pretzel salad.”
“You know the way to my heart, Jack Kelly.” She smiled, leaning over and kissing him. “This is perfect.”
He handed her a plate as she loaded it up, taking a little bit of everything as he did the same. They were quiet as they ate but kept stealing looks at one another.
“So you mentioned this park has history?” Kat looked around the space, trying to imagine what had happened here.
Jack took her hand and nodded. “Ahhh yes! The history is the best part of this place. It was used as a post of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. After the Battle of Brooklyn in 1776 — the first major battle of the American Revolution — nearly 12,000 men and women of diverse nationalities were captured by the British in the aftermath of the Continental Army's retreat.”
“Wow. That’s really cool.” Kat smiled. “Who knew that all happened here?”
“You mean they didn’t teach you that with your fancy history minor?” Jack teased.
Kat giggled. “No they didn’t. Apparently the Battle of Brooklyn wasn’t high up on the important battles to teach. But you said no talk of school.” Pointing at him, she grinned and he nodded.
Once they finished and everything was picked up, they stretched out on the blanket, watching the clouds float lazily by. “I think that one looks like a chicken.”
“It totally does not. It looks like an elephant.” Kat nudged him, giving him a look. “You need to get your eyes checked, Kelly.”
Jack’s jaw dropped, giving her a look. “Excuse me, Plumber. There’s his beak and two scrawny legs and his feathers.”
“Or there’s his trunk, the legs and his big ol’ belly.” Kat laughed, pointing out the features in the cloud.
He reached over and tickled her side as she rolled away from him. “Keep those scrawny fingers away from me, Kelly. Don’t you dare!”
He inched closer to her, fingers wiggling as she shrieked. She hopped to her feet, laughing the entire time as he tried to come close to her. “Kelly, we were having such a good time. Why do you gotta ruin it by tickling me?”
“Because that laugh of yours is my favorite. And I love that you call me Kelly. And for the last six years you’ve been mine and I love you. Plain and simple, I love you, Katherine Plumber.” He paused, dropping to one knee. “So will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?”
Her face went from playful giggling to shock to pure happiness as tears clouded her eyes. “You serious?”
“Yes, yes I am.” He chuckled, still kneeling. “You’re it, Kat. The one I want to spend the rest of my days with. The one I want to be the mother of my children, and the one I want to go on roadtrips with, visit Europe with, and the one I want to crawl into bed with every night. So will you make me the happiest man alive and agree to spend the rest of your life with me?”
She knelt down beside him, tears running down her face with a grin. “Yes, Jack Kelly, yes I will.”
He pulled her into a kiss as cheers erupted from behind them. She didn’t care, all she cared about was the man she was kissing was going to be her husband. Pulling back, he used his thumb to wipe away some of her tears. “I guess I should give you this.”
He pulled out a black box. When he flicking the top open, Katherine gasped. Inside, nestled in the velvet was a silver ring with a center diamond, flanked on both sides with a row of alternating diamonds and emeralds. “Oh Jack, it’s gorgeous.”
“Pretty enough to rest on your hand for the rest of time?” Jack asked, the hope in his voice as she leaned over and kissed him.
“It’s perfect.” She held out her hand as he slid the ring onto her fourth finger. Holding it up, she admired it before kissing him once more. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” Jack smiled, looking over her shoulder. “I’m going to apologize for what’s going to happen next.”
She gave him a look but before she could ask anything, she heard someone running before scooping her into a big hug. “Oh my god, congratulations and welcome to the family.”
Katherine looked at her capturer and laughed. Jack’s younger brother, Race had her in his arms and was twirling her around. “Finally I can officially call you my sister.”
She laughed, holding onto his arm for dear life until he put her down. It took her a minute to gain her balance before she hugged him tightly. “Thank you, Bam Bam.”
Kat looked up from her hug with Race at the people that surrounded Jack. His momma, Crutchie, Albert, Darcy, Bill, and her parents all stood there. She grinned, a thought hitting her. “You all knew?”
“Of course we did.” Crutchie grinned. “You didn’t think Jack had the brains to pull this off by himself, did you?”
“Hey now!” Jack looked at his brother. “I had the initial thought of a picnic but the rest you guys helped with.”
Kat walked over to Jack, as he pulled her into his arms. “It was perfect.”
She’d remember a lot of things from that day as the years went on. She’d remember her parents' hugs and excitement for her engagement. As their oldest daughter, they were excited to help her into the next stage of her life. She’d remember jumping up and down with Darcy and Bill, excitement overflowing at the thought of being Katherine Kelly. She’d laughed when they confessed it was really hard for them to keep it a secret; also that Jack threatened bodily harm to anyone who let it slip the secret to her. But the thing she’d remember most was the time she spent with Jack’s adoptive family - Race, Crutchie, Albert and Medda.
Race pulled her into another hug with a grin. “Now that things have calmed down, I’m over the moon for you and Jackie. Just let me know if there’s anything I can help with. But if he ever gets too much, let me know and I’ll knock him down a few pegs.”
She laughed, nodding her head. “Thanks Race. You’re helping us move next weekend, right?”
He grinned, nodding before going to stand by his older brother. Albert pulled her into a hug next. “Congrats and welcome to the family. You’ve been a big sister to me for the last 6 years, it’s only right that Jackie makes it official.”
“Dammit, DaSilva.” She gave him a glare. “I thought the tears were over. I’m excited to have three more brothers to add to the two I already have.”
He laughed. “Love you Kat.”
“Love you too Albie.”
Crutchie was next. Kat took a deep breath. Crutchie was the one that introduced Jack to Kat. Kat was a volunteer at the Children’s Hospital where Crutchie was having a surgery done. Seven years ago, she had sat with him for hours on end and ended up introducing Jack to Kat, quickly finding out they had a lot in common. It was to no one’s surprise when the two ended up dating less than a year later.
“Plums, it seems like you’ve been part of the family forever and now it’s official. You two are perfect for one another and I’m so happy you said yes.” Crutchie pulled her into a hug. “He was so nervous this morning before he picked you up.”
Looking over Crutchie’s shoulder, she saw Jack eyeing the pair with a concerned look on his face. When she caught his eye, he grinned. “He didn’t seem nervous when he picked me up. I didn’t suspect a thing.”
“Well that might've been because I threatened him.” Crutchie grinned. “I told him if he screwed this up I’d kick his ass then have Al and Race do the same.”
Kat threw her head back and laughed, wiping some of the stray tears away. “Thanks Crutchie. Love you.”
“Love you too, Kat. Welcome to the family.” He grinned, walking over to his brothers as Medda stepped up.
Seven years ago, Kat was petrified of the matriarch of Jack’s family. She had a presence that both intimidated Katherine and made her want to get to know her better. But once she got to know Jack’s momma, she quickly became a second momma to Kat.
Medda pulled Kat into a hug as tears rushed to both of the women’s eyes. “Congrats Kat and welcome to the family. You’ve done wonders for my boy in the last seven years and I don’t have adequate words to properly thank you. You two are a force to be reckoned with and I look forward to watching the path you two will blaze together. Be happy, treat each other right and love will see you both through.”
“Thanks momma.” Kat wiped the tears away with a giggle. “Everything I’ve done for him, he’s done twofold for me. I will love your baby boy forever and give him all he deserves.”
Medda hugged her with a bright smile. “That’s all I ask, Kat. Love you and welcome to the family.”
The two women looked at the four boys who were pushing each other and laughing at something. Kat grinned, catching Jack’s eye and felt a calm envelop her that hadn’t been there before. She knew she could conquer whatever was thrown at her with that man by her side. And she couldn’t wait to step into her forever.
Thanks @wide-eyed--wonderer for sending this one in. I haven’t written an engagement story for Jack/Katherine yet but this was fun to write and explore.
OH and for you visual readers, below is Kat’s engagement ring.

TVD 9x08 (part 2) Enjoy! =)
Cut to – A beautiful beach resort in Mexico’s Mayan Riviera. Bonnie, Damon, Caroline, and Stefan are checking in.
Tumblr media
RECEPTION LADY: Welcome to Akumal, Mexico; the best kept Caribbean secret! (They hand them some welcome cocktails).
BONNIE: (Amazed with the tropical beauty) This place is paradise…
Tumblr media
DAMON: (Takes a sip of his cocktail, wraps his arm around Bonnie) Me, you, and this beautiful beach, definitely paradise (kisses her).
CAROLINE: (Looking at a brochure) Bonnie, look, they have yoga on the beach, every day at 7am; I’m signing us up! And they also have a spa, we totally need some massages, how do hot stones at five sound?
DAMON: Slow down, Care Bear, no need for an itinerary; that’s the whole idea of a vacation.
Tumblr media
BONNIE: Yes, Care, forget about time! We are free to do what we want, when we want; no plans required, that’s the beauty of it.
CAROLINE: You are right… I’m putting control freak Caroline on pause; no need to panic if there’s no schedule… right? (They laugh at Caroline’s struggle to let go) I’m just gonna let careless Caroline take over from now on… Oh! They have meditation at sundown! (Bonnie takes the brochure from her hands) Pause, I’m pausing!
Tumblr media
STEFAN: (Who has been looking at a brochure as well) Ooh, they have a library…
DAMON: (Takes the brochure from his hands) Are you freakin kidding me?!
STEFAN: Okay, okay… pause on the bookworm play on the chill.
Tumblr media
BELLBOY: Let me show you to your rooms.
Cut to – Mystic Falls, the Mayor’s house. Edward is lying on his bed, staring at the ceiling. Anthony knocks.
 EDWARD: Come in.
ANTHONY: Sir, I brought you some tea (gives him a cup).
EDWARD: Thank you (takes a sip). You always know exactly what I need.
ANTHONY: If I may say, Sir, I’m concerned. You haven’t left your room in days.
EDWARD: Just meditating, is all.
ANTHONY: Oh, really? So this has nothing to do with the unexpected visitor staying at your guest house?
EDWARD: I’m surprised he didn’t demand to be given my master bedroom. After all, it is his house…
Tumblr media
ANTHONY: He might have paid for it, but it is your home, not his. I know this must be very difficult, having to see him again, let along having him under the same roof.
Tumblr media
EDWARD: Well, I don’t even remember the last time he was around, so it’s basically like bedding a stranger.
ANTHONY: Sir, you know I don’t like to intrude in your business matters, just promise me you will be careful.
EDWARD: I will, but there is no need to worry, Anthony, I have this under control.
ANTHONY: With all due respect, Sir, you lost that control the moment you allowed him to walk through the door.
EDWARD: I appreciate your concern, but trust me, I know what I’m doing.
ANTHONY: If you say so… Well, I’ll leave you to your thoughts now; good night, Sir.
EDWARD: Good night, Anthony.
Cut to – The Salvatore School. Alaric is showing Tyler and Lexi around.
ALARIC: So, what do you guys say?
Tumblr media
LEXI: Never thought of myself as a teacher, but I think it could be fun, I’m in!
Tumblr media
TYLER: Me too. Might not be the best role model, but let’s be honest, who is?
Tumblr media
ALARIC: Great, welcome to the faculty! (Katherine walks by).
KATHERINE: So, Ric, are these my new colleagues?
Tumblr media
LEXI: Are you kidding me?! (Looks at Alaric) Alaric?
ALARIC: Please don’t judge me, she can be very persuasive. Plus, she does have some cool tricks to teach…
TYLER: Does Caroline know?
ALARIC: Not yet.
TYLER: She’s gonna kill you.
Tumblr media
ALARIC: I’m hoping her vacation time will ease the news.
Tumblr media
LEXI: Oh, it totally won’t! Good luck with that.
Tumblr media
KATHERINE: Well, I’m late for my class, and those little brats are a recipe for disaster. See you at the teacher’s lounge (winks and walks away).
Tumblr media
Cut back to – Akumal, Mexico. Damon and Bonnie’s hotel room. Bonnie comes out of the bathroom, changed into beach attire.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DAMON: (Completely taken with her beauty) God… you are so beautiful (they kiss; things start to heat up. Bonnie takes his shirt off, he takes her beach dress off; they move on to the bed. He unties her bikini strap… someone knocks).
CAROLINE: (Standing outside the door) Hey, guys, you ready?! Let’s hit the beach!
DAMON: Oh, you have got to be kidding me! Does she not get what pause means??!!
CAROLINE: (Knocks again) Guys!! Are you there? Stefan is waiting for us, come on!
DAMON: (Shouts) Timing, Barbie, timing!!!
CAROLINE: What?! (Pauses for a bit, then it hits her) Oh, oh… yes, pause, I’m on pause; sorry!!! Take your time, we’ll meet you down there!
BONNIE: (Laughs, kisses him) Tell you what, why don’t we go down, enjoy the beach while there’s still daylight. We’ll bring this cliffhanger to its resolution when the timing is right. (Kisses him again, ties her bikini strap, gets up, puts her beach dress back on).
DAMON: (Gets up, puts his shirt on and grabs her hand, as they are walking out…) Maybe we should have told her to push the off button… (she smirks, they leave the room).
Cut to – A dorm room at the University of Munich. Elena and Sam are unpacking.
SAM: (Takes a little black box out of one of Elena’s boxes) What’s this?
ELENA: (Takes the box, doesn’t seem to know what it is, or why it’s even there) I have no idea, I didn’t pack it, did you?
SAM: No; that’s weird… maybe it’s another gift from your friends?
ELENA: I don’t think so… (opens the box, inside is some sort of formula with a note that reads: No matter where you are, your past will always follow you…) What the hell?
SAM: Let me see (looks closely at the test tube); looks like some sort of formula? How did it get passed airport security?
ELENA: I don’t even want to know.
SAM: We can test it out at the university lab, find out what it is.
ELENA: No, just throw it out. I moved here to get away from the insanity, I’m not about to open Pandora’s box.
Tumblr media
SAM: Are you sure? It looks like it might be important…
ELENA: I’m sure.
SAM: (Puts the formula and note back in the black box) I’ll take care of it. So, there is an alumni cocktail tonight, want to go? I think it would be good so we can start to integrate...
ELENA: I’m still a bit jet-lagged, but I think I can handle a drink or two.
SAM: That’s my girl (kisses her; they start to make out).
Tumblr media
Cut to – Akumal, Mexico. Stefan and Caroline are lying on the beach. Damon and Bonnie join them.
 CAROLINE: Well, that was fast!
DAMON: Blondie, I swear...
STEFAN: What’s going on?
Tumblr media
DAMON: Little “Miss Pause” here, won’t stop pushing play.
STEFAN: What?
BONNIE: Just forget it; let’s enjoy! I mean, look at this place, it’s gorgeous! I’m going for a swim.
DAMON: I’m coming with (grabs her hand; they head to the ocean).
STEFAN: They look so happy together...
Tumblr media
CAROLINE: They really do, and I really need to stop with the bad timing!
STEFAN: Again?
CAROLINE: Yep. Thought inappropriate timing was a Sagittarius thing, guess it’s a Libra thing too.
STEFAN: (Laughs, then kisses her). I’m sure they’ll find the right moment. Just between us, this is the first time Damon has taken it slow; I think he might be nervous.
CAROLINE: Nervous?! Come on, this is Damon we are talking about.
STEFAN: Yes, but he has never felt like this about anyone… probably freaks him out a little bit; doesn’t want to screw it up.
CAROLINE: That’s true…
STEFAN: Listen, sorry to change the subject but, about that thing we talked about, you never gave me an answer.
CAROLINE: I’m sorry… still processing. It’s a life-changing decision; give me some time to clear my head on it?
STEFAN: Of course… take as much time as you need. And, whatever you decide, I’m with you.  (They cuddle and enjoy the view; sometime later, Bonnie and Damon come back from their swim).
BONNIE: (A she is drying herself) The water is delicious! You guys should definitely take a dip!
CAROLINE: Bon, when have you ever seen me swim in the ocean?
BONNIE: Oh, that’s right… (teasing) your irrational fear of “the sea monsters”.
CAROLINE: Who knows what crazy things live down there?! Plus, sharks…
DAMON: Sharks, really, Blondie? They're harmless! They are more afraid of us than we are of them, and with good reason.
CAROLINE: Have you seen Jaws? … Uhm, no thanks! I’m perfectly fine right here; enjoying the beautiful view, margarita in one hand, Stefan’s hand in the other… perfection!
BONNIE: Come on, Care, dare to do something you never have. What happened to pausing the control freak? Let loose!
CAROLINE: I’m loose, I swear! Just not that loose… (they laugh; Damon and Bonnie lie down with them to enjoy the view. After a few minutes of contemplation, Caroline breaks the silence). Ahhh… This is exactly what we needed.
Tumblr media
BONNIE: Preach!
STEFAN: (Looking at a boat that is cruising by) We should totally do that boat trip...
DAMON: One thing at a time, bro. For now… (grabs some beers from the cooler, hands one to them) Enjoy… (winks, then puts Bob Marley’s “Don’t worry be happy” on his phone. Lights up a doobie, takes a drag, and passes it around).
youtube
BONNIE: (Takes a hit, then passes to Caroline) How is this for letting loose…
CAROLINE: (Takes a drag; lets the smoke out…) My kind of pause button. (Smiles, passes it to Stefan).
STEFAN: (Takes a hit) I never did this as a human… wonder if it hits you different than when you are a vampire?
BONNIE: (She and Caroline laugh) Oh, Stefan, you’re in for quite a ride…
Cut to – The Mayor’s house. Edward is still in his room. The Madame comes in.
THE MADAME: Darling, you can’t hide in here forever…
Tumblr media
EDWARD: I’m not hiding, I’m thinking.
THE MADAME: About?
EDWARD: My mother, thanks to you.
Tumblr media
THE MADAME: I’m sorry I had to do that but we really need his help if we want to get this done.
EDWARD: I’ve always known you were cruel, but you took it way too far this time.
THE MADAME: It was the only way I could get you to call him.
EDWARD: That is true, but still, cruel.
THE MADAME: Forgive me, love, it’s in our best interest to have him on our side.
EDWARD: I know… just can’t stand the sight of him.
THE MADAME: Why don’t you try to give him a chance, he might not be so bad…
EDWARD: He’s responsible for my mother’s death, both of them. Granted I never knew my biological mother; it was a miracle I even survived, but… a killer clown, really?... Sick bastard. And, as if that wasn’t enough, he ended up driving the woman he had killed the first one for, completely insane, to the point of suicide. How is that, not so bad?!
THE MADAME: Listen, he’s not my cup of tea either, but he didn’t do the things you accuse him of, I promise. If he had, I would have killed him a long time ago.
EDWARD: I thought you were on my side; how can you believe all his lies?
THE MADAME: I’m not on his side, and I don’t believe a word that comes out of his mouth. The only reason I know he is not responsible for those things is because I can read minds. Had your “friend” Donovan not given up the devices and activated unit 1, I wouldn’t have made you call him; but you and I know, if anyone can help us fix this little mess, it’s him. I’ve lived for hundreds of years, and have been part of the order for the majority of them, I’m not about to give up everything I have fought for.
EDWARD: Neither am I, that is the only reason I agreed to this… but we have to be careful, he is definitely not doing this out of the goodness of his heart, we have something he wants, and he’ll do whatever it takes to get it.
THE MADAME: As long as you and I are on the same page, we’ll have control, and he’ll have no choice but to comply.
EDWARD: Let’s hope he does; he can be quite sneaky.
THE MADAME: So can we (smirks). For now, keep Donovan away for as long as you can; once he comes back, everything will be set in motion.
EDWARD: We’ll need to move fast, not sure how long he’ll stand his time out…
Cut to – Akumal, Mexico. Bonnie, Damon, Stefan, and Caroline are on a boat. Stefan is standing at the edge of the boat, facing the open ocean. They are all quite stoned, even Caroline and Damon, who you would think wouldn’t be given that they are vampires, or even Bonnie, having all that source power, but apparently, they were given some pretty heavy stuff.
STEFAN: Wait… how did we get on a boat?
CAROLINE: (Barely able to talk from the laughter) I think we stole it…
STEFAN: Shit! Oh, well… I’m the king of the world!! (Grabs her hand and takes her up on the edge with him). Look at this view… (after a few seconds, he starts singing Celine Dion’s “My heart will go on”, completely off-tune).
youtube
BONNIE: (Who is lying on the floor deck with Damon, looking up at the sky) I’m telling you, look at it… it’s totally baby Yoda… and it’s speaking to us…listen.
DAMON: Listening, I am, and says he… stay for some soup you must…
BONNIE: Ooh, soup! I love soup… French onion with melted cheese on top… What genius came up with that? (Pauses for a sec) Wait, what were we talking about?
DAMON: I have no idea… (they crack up).
Tumblr media
STEFAN: (Still on the boat edge) You jump, I jump…
CAROLINE: (Turns to look at his eyes) Never let go, Jack, never let go…
STEFAN: I love you, Rose. (Kisses her, grabs her hand; they jump in the water).
Tumblr media
BONNIE: Did they just jump in the water?
DAMON: I think they did… (they get up, see them in the water)
BONNIE: Care! You did it!
CAROLINE: (Realizing she is swimming in the ocean for the first time). Oh, my god!!! I did!!! (As she is blissfully swimming around) It’s so wonderful!!! You guys should join!!
BONNIE: (Gets real serious...) Oh my god guys, don’t move...
CAROLINE: (Looking scared as hell) What is it?...
BONNIE: Care, don’t move... it’s behind you... (Caroline is paralyzed, on guard).
CAROLINE: (Looking terrified) Bonnie... is it a sh...
BONNIE: (Interrupts her ) Shhhh... (Bonnie uses her telekinetic powers to play the intro of “Baby Shark” on her phone, then starts dancing the choreography, Damon joins along; they are cracking up).
youtube
CAROLINE: Bonnie, you scared the hell out of me! (Can’t help but laugh at the prank).
DAMON: (Laughing his ass off) Good one, Bon! (They high five) Sorry, Blondie, you owed us!
CAROLINE: Fair enough... we’ll call it even. Now, come join,  the water is perfect!
DAMON: Bon Bon, what do you say?
BONNIE: You had me at Bon Bon... (They smirk; Damon grabs her hand and they jump in. They swim and laugh for a while, then go back on the boat). So… who drove the boat?
STEFAN: Uhm, I think I did… not sure how.
CAROLINE: Can you drive it back?
STEFAN: I’ll give it a try… but what’s the rush; I say we stay for a while, watch the sundown… (they sit on the boat deck, open a bottle of bourbon, eat some munchies, talk, and laugh).
CAROLINE: (To Damon, referring to the weed) TSo, Damon, that was some powerful stuff, where did you get it from?
DAMON: Bellboy hooked me up…called it the Mayan “Duende”? …
STEFAN: Well, I hope you saved some… totally want to do that again, but I think inland is the way to go next time. (They watch the sunset, then head back; Stefan manages to return the boat, and everyone on board, safe and sound).
Cut to - Matt and Khuyana having a picnic at a beautiful park in Lima, Peru.
 MATT: I missed this…
KHUYANA: Me too (kisses him).
MATT: I’m so sorry for everything that has happened... I’m thinking that moving back was a mistake.
KHUYANA: It’s not your fault Matt, and it wasn’t a mistake. You love your home, and, despite it all, I love it too. Mystic Falls is where we belong.
MATT: But we were happier here.
KHUYANA: Were we? I think you are forgetting just how much we struggled, not to mention my government tried to make me disappear. I’m more afraid of humanities’ dark side than I am of the supernatural; at least with them, you get a fair warning.
MATT: You make a good point…but still, I… I…
KHUYANA: Mi amor, it’s okay, we are going to be fine. It’s over now, so let’s enjoy our time off and go back home when the time comes (kisses him). Whatever comes our way, we will get through it.
MATT: If I could marry you again, I would. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me, thank you for being part of my life.
KHUYANA: And thank you for being part of mine. Now, how about some pisco and yuquitas?
MATT: Best vacation ever… (kisses her).
Cut to – Akumal, Mexico. Late at night. Damon and Bonnie are lying on the beach, in a very secluded spot, looking at the sky.
Tumblr media
DAMON: I could do this forever…
BONNIE: Me too.
DAMON: (Turns his head towards her, looks deep into her eyes, and kisses her gently) I love you, Bon… like I never knew I could love…
BONNIE: And I love you; like I never did love … (She kisses him, more passionately than gently, kneels on top of him, and unbuttons his shirt as he pulls her dress off. She unbuckles his shorts, he unhooks her bra, throws it to the ground. He slowly slides her panties down and… at last  =). Inside her, Damon can't help but be locked into those hypnotic eyes, his breath so heavy and unstable... the overwhelming beauty and the feeling of absolute ecstasy invade every cell in his body... if ever he'd known what pure love was, this was the moment. They make love, multiple times, through the entire night until they fall asleep, holding each other so tight, body to body, until sunrise.

Newsies Zombie Apocalypse AU? I’m intrigued! Please explain!
ahhh thanks for the question! Uhm,,, here’s a bit of a snapshot-- got a lot planned and whatnot,, so if you wanted to talk details,,, please don’t hesitate!
Jack remembers the first day of the apocalypse as chaos. He remembers it as going to newsie square on a morning walk and seeing a group of other street boys trying to fend off a lurching kid with blood streaked across his face. He remembers stumbling back in horror as a group of boys with wicked bites on their skin advance on him while snapping and snarling. Remembers the lack of humanity in their eyes. He remembers throwing up his arms to defend himself against a boy who used to be Mush— remembers trying to speak to him, to talk him down— when a crutch streaked into his field of vision and smashed against the thing’s skull. Most of all, jack remembers one word that was uttered to him: “run.”
Crutchie remembers the first day of the apocalypse as hiding. He remembers saving Jack Kelly with a burst of bravery before the other boy took his wrist and tugged him down an alleyway, asking what the hell was going on. He remembers snarling. He remembers running until he thought his good leg would give out with Jack behind him urging him to get his ass in gear. He remembers being helped onto a rooftop by a heaving, sweating Jack, and he remembers the searing pain of putting his weight on his bum leg. He remembers Jack’s words hissed in his ear, and he remembers looking down on what was once Lower Manhattan, bathed in blood and morning light.
Davey remembers the first day of the apocalypse as panic. He remembers the feeling of his throat knotting to a point where he couldn’t breathe when he realized that Les had gone to school that morning. He remembers trying to cut through downtown, practically sprinting when he felt something close around his wrist and heard a low snarl in his ear. He remembers seeing a creature that might’ve been human, had its jaw not been unhinged and had those eyes not been glazed over, and he remembers giving a sharp, terrified scream. He remembers breaking into a sprint, and he remembers finding an old fireaxe. He remembers swinging. Remembers a crunch. What he doesn’t remember is throwing up, but from the sting in his throat and the taste on his tongue, he knows it’s happened.
Katherine remembers the first day of the apocalypse as betrayal. She remembers urging her father not to try the medicine in her briefcase-- remembers telling him that it isn’t safe for human use. She remembers dread curling in her stomach at the congratulatory pats on the back, remembers praise of her miracle cure. And then she remembers the meltdown. Remembers the sirens, the flashing lights and shutting doors, along with the sensation of her heart beating so fast she thought it might burst. She remembers stuffing vials into her suitcase. She remembers growling at the door. She remembers the weight of a gun in her pocket, and she hopes to god she remembers how to use it.
Spot remembers the first day of the apocalypse as normal. He remembers waking up in his van. He remembers the thrum of the engine as he turned the key. He remembers Race at his side and Romeo in the back. He remembers turning onto the freeway and practically flooring the gas, remembers turning on some old song on a CD when the radio started spitting out warnings. He remembers laughing. He remembers checking the rearview. He remembers everything up until the semi in front of him swerved suddenly and he slammed on the brakes, and then, Spot remembers the feeling of a head-on collision. Remembers the heat of his engine melting down. Remembers the creatures that began to circle the wreck with grinning mouths and blood trickling from their jaws, and he remembers the sudden, crushing feeling of realizing that normal isn’t a word he’ll be able to use again.

i was looking for ‘cheaper by the dozen au’ notes for hours in my documents. and then i realized that i saved it as ‘yours mine and ours’. it’s basically a transcript of a conversation i had with @vermofftiss in the sherlolly chat
katie: I see Sherlock and Molly being more of a "Yours, Mine and Ours" type sam: aww, but that means they're both widows katie: Or they could be single people that decided to have kids on their own before they met sam: ooh, true. ... *whispers* what if widows for a moment. stay with me. what if molly was married to tom before sherlock, and all her kids are convinced she's only with sherlock because he looks like tom katie: hmmm. IDK I think that gives Tom too much improtance. I was thinking that Sherlock just keeps ending up with kids by finding them through the homeless network. sam: i was thinking something like that too. like it starts with maybe two or three he has doing  bit of spywork for him katie: he means to just be a temporary waystation until something permenant comes along but then every person that tries to adopt them he deduce something that makes him go "nope!" sam: but maybe they don't take his money and they're like "we'd rather have a bed than be paid" so sherlock's like "alright, keep up though". but then they stay the night, and the next day, and the next day... katie: and it's not even major things it's that he falls for them. yes! maybe molly is raising her siblings. like she had young siblings that she was left to take care of after her dad died sam: ooh yeah, that could be it. oh my gosh are we thinking hard on this au katie: like they can work together and never know the other has kids~ we could totes collab on this fic! sam: oh my gosh that'd be so much fun! well, sherlock being sherlock, he'd probably notice something on molly and be like "are you a mother, molly?" katie: their kids go to the same school, they meet up at the Headmaster's office because they were fighting and it's like... "oh..." sam: "Oh no, i just take care of my siblings" "Oh. okk." katie: yeah! sam: and sherlock assumes that means like one or two -- ohhh no katie: lol Molly is Catholic of course sam: i'm just giggling about all the misunderstandings. like, when molly meets sherlock's kids, and none of them look the same, and he's like "they're all mine" and molly's thinking to herself "really, you must get around" katie: let's do. YES! and none of his kids call him dead. and she's like "my that's progressive" sam: and it's not just for a minute, imagine if it gets dragged out for days katie: i think there should be three each sam: and the kids are offhandedly mentioning the things that happened in their homes before they ended up on streets and molly's just completely bewildered katie: too many and then it's just madness. yeah! like maybe one of their mothers is an addict and still on the streets and she tries to come around for money or something sometimes sam: "my dad says eat your vegetables or you turn into a bird" "my dad didn't like vegetables" "my dad would *never( be able to pronounce vegetable!" can you imagine one of the kids being used as sherlock's pressure point katie: AHHH! sam: sit back and imagine the catatonic rage if one of them was taken. katie: yes that can tie in with the addict mom still on the street sam: can you imagine if one of molly's siblings was taken! katie: like they could be taken together. sam: what if they're all like "we don't like sherlock" but then he saves them and they're like "he's ok i guess" katie: they fight over whose fault it. YES! ok so here it is. the kid is a pressure point so the person in question basically uses the addict mom by getting her set up in a flat with an income and polishing her up to look like she's recovered and she wants her kid back and then they stage the kidnapping to make Sherlock look like an unsuitable guardian sam: OOOH, yes! ..... oh my god, what if moriarty katie: and the poor kid can be conflicted because he really loves his mom sam: because when moriarty was first trying to ruin sherlock, the most important thing to sherlock was the work. katie: but she's not interested in recovering sam: but now it's all about family for him katie: yes! so where will john fit in? or is this after he gets with mary? sam: i think he's probably with mary and baby watson katie: works! sam: but he and mary probably stop by to help with the kids/cases/etc. "uncle john" and "aunt mary" katie: yeah and he's their pediatrician as well or something sam: of course sherlock's like "they're not your aunt and uncle" "whatever you say, dad" "sherlock." "dad." "sherlock." dad." "sherlock." "dad." katie: yeah and toward the end he and Molly find out they're pregnant and when they announce it his kids are like "congratulations, Sherlock" and he's like "You should call me dad." sam: AHHHH that's so cute. ok i'm screencapping this, this is all too great katie: so it can be angst and smut and fluff and everything that is awesome in the universe sam: yessssss. all i really want is sherlock being sherlock-ish with a bunch of kids katie: definitely! sam: BUT there's one small one where he just can't help but be very caring and gentle around katie: no OOC and no crack. yes! like maybe he found that one and he or she doesn't speak. and he can use his skills of deduction to understand what he or she needs or wants sam: g osh i'm just squealing, that's so adorable katie: like it's trauma-related psychosematic mutism sam: of course, if anyone ever told sherlock he was adorable, he'd go into a sulk katie: right!? one big moment in the fic can be after molly and sherlock are together and they're all cohabiting like a real family the little one starts talking again sam: AWWW. ok, my brain gave me this katie: like something super innocuous like "pass the wheetabix. pelase" and everyone is like O.O sam: maybe sherlock's tucking in the little one. he usually doesn't tuck in the kids, but maybe something happens and they ask him to, so he does it. and the quiet one just sort of snuffles and asks about molly. "is molly gonna be our mummy?" katie: awww! sam: and the others just look at sherlock expectantly. im just katie: And they'll definitely need to rent out 221c. OMG all the Mrs. Hudson moments would be priceless. sam: lol, yes! they need plenty of room. katie: Like Mrs. Hudson always has treats for the little ones sam: awww katie: the older ones go in and raid her cupboards without asking and she doesn't mind. sam: by older ones you mean sherlock? katie: like they come straight home from school and instead of going up to 221b they go to Mrs. Hudson and she's always stuffing them with goodies. they sit around and watch jeremy kyle and one of the kids is looming yarn with her sam: what a small sherlolly moment where molly's feeling unsure about taking care of her siblings, because she misses her dad, and something's gone wrong? katie: yes! sam: and sherlock ends up comforting her. but it's sherlock, so he probably does it without realizing he's done it. katie: yeah he helps her realize she can do it. Sherlock's kids help Molly's siblings come to terms with the death of their parents sam: all the squabbles though, can you imagine katie: YEP! sam: sherlock's kids might think molly's siblings are snobbish and ungrateful because "at least you still have a home" katie: i imagine the older ones will get into a squabble and one of Molly's calsl one of Sherlock's street trash sam: ooof, what if one of hte kids say that in earshot of sherlock, who's hurt by it without realizing he's hurt katie: and Molly takes them aside and rails on them sam: because he thinks he's done alright by the kids, but the kids are assuming that sherlock's care is temporary, because they've never had anything permenant katie: aww yeah! yeah realize this will be about a bazillion chapters long! well we definitely need to write this. i know AO3 has a cowriting option I just don't know how it works sam: i'm sure we can figure it out. ao3's not that tricky katie: that's why i love it! of cousre we have to have an epilogue with molly and sherlock's "oops" baby being raised in this epic blended family sam: aww, yes! all these kids need names too katie: like looking at her life and all her awesome brothers and sisters and aunts and uncles and how her family is different from everyone else's that makes her extra lucky. yep! sherlock's kids can have really urban sounding names sam: i think sherlock's kids would probably make something up. like, little nicknames. katie: yeah! sam: oooh, and for the quiet one, maybe the other kids give them a nickname? katie: like they call her Kitty because she likes to curl up in your lap sam: awwww katie: in the official paperwork they settle on "katherine" OMG the older ones prank mycroft whenever he comes round. but kitty is always sweet to him and wants to sit in his lap and hug him and he's just like uhm... sam: "Sherlock what do I do with the small one?" "If you rub her back she hums." *"Sherlock."* "No, honest to god, she does." katie: like maybe he found her hiding in a skip and he had to lure her out with sweeties sam: awww, and what if kitty actually doesn't want to get close to him at first, but maybe he does one of those small monologue things about "it's okay to be scared" and stuff like that katie: yeah!! sam: maybe he finds her on a case! katie: yes! he thinks she might have been a witness. but by the time she's able to talk about it it's too late to do anything about it... legally. so they go vigilante justice on their ass sam: oooh, yes! katie: ooh ok so he lures her out with food! sam: Yes! oooh, maybe he just happens to have a sweet in his pocket because mrs. hudson was handing candies to the other kids? katie: at first he's just trying to get her out but she won't so he and John get sandwiches and just sit by the skip and lay an extra sandwich a little bit away from them and start eating and are like "mmm sure its good!" and she kinda sneakily gets closer and closer and they pretend not to notice that she sat down beside them and started eating the other sandwich

THE DEVIL WEARS TJ MAXX - My Review of LATE NIGHT (3 Stars)
Tumblr media
[Excerpted from https://thequeerreview.com/ ]
Growing up, I always had a soft spot for big budget American studio films.  I subconsciously knew most lacked subtlety and sophistication, but man was it fun to watch Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase rappel down the side of a building in Foul Play or see Liza Minnelli, Gene Hackman and Burt Reynolds share the screen in the forgotten programmer Lucky Lady.  That silly, loud American spirit meant something to me that the French New Wave or “Art Films” couldn’t provide.  I have also always loved a good workplace comedy, and for me, nothing has ever come as close to perfection as Broadcast News.  It was around that time, in fact, that my tastes started to change.  I got tired of the formula, the laziness, and I started to crave jump cuts, handheld cameras, and brazen audacity.  For me, the studios rarely made anything but forgettable eye candy.  To a degree, they still do, with an occasional rare gem shining out from a giant turd pile.
It’s with this older, wiser, more cynical and, yes, perhaps bitter eye that I came to Late Night, a new workplace comedy written by and starring Mindy Kaling.  Despite coming from a good place and pushing all of the correct “woke” buttons, it’s no Broadcast News.  Hell, it’s no The Devil Wears Prada either, despite feeling like its distant cousin from your Great Uncle’s side of the family.  Kaling, whose own career trajectory somewhat mirrors that of her character, plays Molly Patel, a worker in a chemical plant who finds herself as a diversity hire on an all-male writing staff for a network talk show.  Its host, Katherine Newbury (Emma Thompson), a volatile, cold boss, has coasted for such a long stretch that the network has now considered replacing her.  Can she find the energy to save her show and maybe give her good qualities a chance to shine?  Can Molly contribute to this and find her voice as a writer, and maybe, just maybe, find love?  If you’ve seen big budget American studio films before (and full disclosure, this was an independent film, but it sure feels like a programmer), then I think you know the answer.
Along the way, we meet Molly’s co-workers, a ramshackle group of guys not unlike those portrayed on 30 Rock, and they include Hugh Dancy as her romantic interest, Reid Scott (Veep), unexpectedly showing a sweet side to his usually wiseass persona as Newbury’s chief monologue writer, Max Casella as the lifer, and the talented but underutilized John Early as the maybe gay writer who never gets a backstory, so we’ll just put a pin in that one for now.  We also meet Newbury’s husband (John Lithgow), whose marital problems with her have a way of exposing her humanity, while also giving Lithgow some wonderful scenes.
All of this is to say that I had a good time watching this film, but make no mistake, it’s standard issue all the way.  Director Nisha Ganatra (Chutney Popcorn), who has shown with her prior work that she has a great visual sensibility, does a bland, faceless but professional job here, because that’s all this movie aspires towards.  It wants to entertain, nothing more, nothing less.  On this front, we get a terrific performance from Thompson.  You love to hate her when she calls her writers by numbers instead of their names, yet you root for her when she makes an effort to show up for someone.  Kaling has written such a fantastic part for her, that it seems she forgot to do so for herself.  Molly has a fun, adorable personality, especially when she puts her head on Katherine’s shoulder when the press start taking pictures of them, but her sudden rise as a writer and her feistiness didn’t draw me in as much as Thompson’s shoot for the moon style.  Molly feels somewhat superfluous, making this more Katherine’s journey than her own.  Still, it’s a classic three act structure and it does have something to say about busting through the patriarchy as a woman and as a person of color.
But….it lacks those singular moments.  When I think of Broadcast News, I think of Holly Hunter unplugging her phone every day and crying. I think of Albert Brooks flop-sweating on live TV. I think of William Hurt faking tears to get a story.  I think of Joan Cusack running with the tape.  When I look back on Late Night, alas, I’m going to say, “I think I saw it.  Yeah.  Yeah.  Yeah.  The best moment is depicted in the poster. “  Ahhh, America.

The Sacrifice - 3
I helped Bonnie set up a circle of torches in the antechamber and light them with a flame.
"Where the hell is Damon?" Stefan asks as he paces. I shake my head and put my phone away after several times of trying to reach him. "I don't know"
Bonnie looks at Stefan. "We can't wait, we have to get him out of there." Stefan runs a hand through his face. "She's fed, she has her strength back."
"We still have what's left of the ash" I say as I hand him the envelope with said ash. "Do you think you can get close enough?" Bonnie asks.
Stefan takes the envelope from me. "I don't have a choice."
Bonnie sighs. "It's gonna take me some time."
"How long?" I ask, resting a hand on my hips with worry and nerves.
"I don't know, a while." Bonnie replies.
Stefan mutters something under his breath. "Just get me in there as soon as you can."
Bonnie has the grimoire open, her eyes tightly shut, as she begins chanting a spell in Latin. Stefan and I watch with worrisome eyes.
Bonnie, with a pair of dog tags clutched in one hand, continues chanting the spell.
Bonnie continues to chant the spell and the flames flare up. Katherine, dragging Jeremy behind her, comes back towards the entrance.
"Ohhh, something's happening." Katherine musses and I look back at her with a scowl.
Jeremy's eyes widen when he sees Bonnie. "Bonnie, no!"
Stefan and I looked back at Bonnie, a look of alarm on our faces. Jeremy looks at us, "You have to stop her, she's not strong enough!" He yells just as The flames flare up higher.
Katherine tilts her head. "Maybe she is."
Bonnie continues to chant the spell as Stefan and I try to persuade her to stop when blood starts coming from her nose.
"Bonnie!" I exclaim. "You got to stop her!" Jeremy exclaims and then we hear a thud, we turn around to see Jeremy on the ground thanks to Katherine who elbowed him.
"Okay, you need to Stop. Bonnie!" I yell as I try to grab her by the shoulders but she shrugs my hands of her shoulders and continued chanting.
"Bonnie!"
Suddenly, Bonnie faints. Stefan gets down next to her and begins to shake her and I do the same.
"Bonnie. Bonnie, wake up, please. Bonnie, wake up. Bonnie, please" I exclaim/beg.
"Yes, please because I'm still in here!" Katherine calls out.
Katherine impatiently paces around inside the tomb till Bonnie finally wakes up. "Are you okay? You all right?" Stefan and I ask.
Bonnie, feeling fuzzy, stands up with Stefan's help. Bonnie uses Stefan's arm to stand herself up.
"It didn't work." Bonnie mutters.
Bonnie looks into the cave, upset. Stefan holds onto her arms so she won't fall back down. "I'm not strong enough. Even with help, I can't do it." Bonnie says in disappointment and defeat.
"Ahhh, that's too bad, I'm still hungry." Katherine says from inside the tomb, she grabs Jeremy's shirt and pushes him up against the wall. She extends her fangs and prepares to bite Jeremy's neck.
"STEFAN!" I yell when Stefan vamp-speeds into the tomb, grabs Jeremy, throws him out, and restrains Katherine against the wall.
Jeremy falls onto the ground and Bonnie and I kneel down and wrap our arms around him. We all look up as Stefan looks back at us. Katherine looks up at Stefan with a smug smile.
I sent Bonnie to take Jeremy home while I stayed at the tomb, pacing with stress.
I rake a hand through my hair and stifled a groan. "Relax Ariel. All will be well" Katherine says from the entrance. I roll my eyes at her and look up when Stefan appears.
"I'll leave you two alone" Katherine says before wandering deeper in the cave. I stand and make my way to the entrance.
"What were you thinking Stefan?" I retort, "I- What do I tell Elena when she finds out" I ask, tearing up.
"Or Damon?" Stefan sighs.
"The truth. You should go now" I nod and turn around. "Yeah I should" I turn back around but Stefans gone. I sigh and pick up my bag and I'm about to leave when Elena comes running down the stairs.
She rushes towards the cave and looks in, but sees no one. "Elena" I called out to her.
Elena ignores me. "Stefan! Stefan!" She yells.
Elena is about to enter the cave when Damon comes up from behind her, grabs her, and pins her against the wall.
"Don't you dare." He warns.
"Stefan's in there, Damon! How could you let this happen?" She yells.
Damon frowns. "What are you talking about? I was too busy saving you from your crazy kamikaze mission." What?
"You didn't even have to go after the moonstone in the first place!" Elena yells. Damon sighs. "It was the right call, Elena."
Elena almost laughs in his face. "The right call? How was any of this the right call?!" Elena exclaims and hits Damon's chest with her fists.
"Damon, let go of me! Damon, let go of me! Let go of me! Let go of me!"
Elena repeatedly beats her fist into Damon's chest, who keeps a calm face and restrains her. Elena becomes tired and desperately looks up at Damon.
"Please." Elena begs. "Are you done?" He asks.
Elena breathes heavily. Damon releases her from his grip and backs up. Elena looks into the cave and starts to move towards it. Damon holds his hand up to block her way.
"Don't." He warns, Elena snarls at Damon and stomps out of the tomb in a rage. Damon watches her go then looks back into the cave. I follow after Elena who paces outside.
"Elena.."
"How did this happen?" She asks, trying to put up a brave face. "Stefan did it too...to save Jeremy, Elena" I explain.
Elena nods in understanding and I embrace her, she hugs me back and cry's into my shoulder.

You have to admit – this is not a bad way to start a week huh? It was lush if somewhat sickly but highly recommended. I love Ole & Steen on Haymarket. Best Danish pastry I have tasted. If you are in London then you simply must go. Their sandwiches and coffees aren’t bad either.
After starting last week’s post with a puppy picture, I was asked for a cat this week so here you go.
Not what you were expecting? He’s still pretty cute though. For those wanting a kitty of a slighter small size and shape here’s one for you.
None of this has anything to do with books but then what is new. Well … the cake kind of links back to books as I did eat it prior to heading on over to City University and First Monday Crime last week. A wonderfully bookish night of entertainment courtesy of Barry Forshaw, Stuart Turton, Leigh Russell and john Connolly. Sadly, thanks to the sudden descent of fog upon the country Rachel Abbott didn’t make it but the panel still kept us wholly entertained with discussions on why kids don’t read much, whether Stuart Turton loves or hates Agatha Christie and whether John Connolly writes horror or crime or a hybrid. For more on the evening as a whole I recommend that you read Joy Kluver’s write up here. I was far to enthralled and entertained to take decent notes but I did grab a couple of pictures.
Now, you may or may not have worked out from my overly gushing post the other week about The Woman in the Woods that I’m a small fan of John Connolly’s Charlie Parker books. I did the thoroughly bookishly geeky thing of queuing to get my copy signed (even though I have a signed copy on the way from Goldsboro books anyway – this was personalised) and unlike me, I managed to get out more of a sentence than ‘I liked your book’. When Mr C remarked that I had already read it, I explained that I’d reviewed it the previous week. After a surprised ‘that was you!’ I got a totally unexpected and unsolicited hug of thanks from the man himself.
Now I am not prone to the old huggage, hand shakes are still somewhat of a necessary evil IMHO, even for work. I want to die when I meet my European colleagues with their strange air kiss/cheek rub ways. I can never remember which is which and who is going to fire in for one, two or even three kisses. Three!!! I mean, what the heck?Where I come from that’s borderline asking for your hand in marriage or at the very least an indecent proposal!
Those who know me well know that this hugging phenomenon is something I am struggling to come to terms with about the bookish world. You lot are very huggy people. This one though I did not mind at all. Not in any weird kind of freaky stalkerish way I hasten to add, but it was just so surprising as I am sure that authors such as John Connolly and the rest of the panel get hundreds of reviews and kind comments all the time, so to know that he read and was genuinely thankful for the review makes this whole blogging thing worth while. In it’s own odd way it’s kind of different to greeting people who you may have conversed with a bit on line or perhaps met before too as that’s where you expect a kind of happy but strange hug/air kiss/pre proposal type scenario 😉😬. I mean I’d have been as happy with a genuine and enthusiastic thank you but I’m not complaining.;) And I now have another book in my signed collection which also contains huge hugs (at least this is what we deciphered it as saying lol)!!! Good night out.
This was the most exciting thing to happen to me all week as other than this I have had a trip just south of Lille for another two hour meeting (and the kiss/don’t kiss, one two or three nightmare) and a lot of work twaddle to contend with. I completed week 4 of my Forensic Psychology – Witness Investigation course and week 1 of the Forensic Science course that I am trying to undertake alongside blogging and working and travelling and occasional sleeping so that is a bonus. I also got two other new signed books this week. First up was a copy of DM Mark’s The Zealot’s Bones (warning to the sensitive the cover has a scary rat and you may wish to scroll on) and a second signed copy of Written in Bones by James Oswald, simply because it was signed and dated on my birthday last year. That seemed like fate to me so it had to be done.
Ahhh. Book. Heaven. Not too shabby a week huh? Well apart from work but we can gloss over that part …
New book wise I have been ordering from Goldsboro again. This time it’s a signed copy of The Blood Road by Stuart MacBride which is released in June. Happy bunny time over here then. From Amazon my purchases have been limited (yeah right) and I only ordered the US hard cover of Ragnar Jonasson’s Black Out because it is stunning (and I have the first two in the set so it seemed rude not to). From the UK I ordered The Zealot’s Bones by DM Mark (I can’t read a signed copy…); Down To The Woods by MJ Arlidge; Counting the Dead by Victoria Jenkins and No Turning Back by Sam Blake.
Netgalley wise I have had a few books. It’s a mixture of tour requests, direct invites to review in the case of Peter James and Ruth Dugdall and ‘I just want to read these’ requests. I picked up Body and Soul by John Harvey; The Things You Didn’t See by Ruth Dugdall; The Retreat by Mark Edwards; Dead If you Don’t by Peter James and One Little Lie by Sam Carrington. I was also sent an early copy of The Chosen Ones by Carol Wyer which is absolutely bloody fabulous I might add.
Reading wise I’ve not had too shabby a week all things considered. I am still shattered so i think to have finished reading four books again this week is quite pleasing.
Books I have read
The Ice Swimmer – Kjell Ola Dahl
When a dead man is lifted from the freezing waters of Oslo Harbour just before Christmas, Detective Lena Stigersand’s stressful life suddenly becomes even more complicated. Not only is she dealing with a cancer scare, a stalker and an untrustworthy boyfriend, but it seems both a politician and Norway’s security services might be involved in the murder.
With her trusted colleagues, Gunnarstranda and Frølich, at her side, Lena digs deep into the case and finds that it not only goes to the heart of the Norwegian establishment, but it might be rather to close to her personal life for comfort.
Dark, complex and nail-bitingly tense, The Ice Swimmer is the latest and most unforgettable instalment in the critically acclaimed Oslo Detective series, by the godfather of Nordic Noir.
My review of this brilliant novel will be out later this week but I truly love the writing style and the feel of this Oslo based thriller. Slower in pace than most Detective novels it is still engaging and has so many hold your breath moments that you won’t be able to turn away. You can buy your own copy here.
Body and Soul – John Harvey
From the master of British Crime Writing comes Frank Elder’s last case.
‘The heavy manacles around the girl’s wrists, perhaps not surprisingly, looked very much like the ones that had been found on the studio floor. For a moment, she had a vision of the chain to which they were attached being swung through the air, taking on force and speed before striking home. Then swung again.’
When his estranged daughter Katherine appears on his doorstep, ex-Detective Frank Elder knows that something is wrong.
Katherine has long been troubled, and Elder has always felt powerless to help her.
But now Katherine has begun to self-destruct.
The breakdown of her affair with a controversial artist has sent her into a tailspin which culminates in murder.
And as Elder struggles to protect his daughter and prove her innocence, the terrors of the past threaten them both once more …
The last in the series this is the first book I have read by John Harvey. Nothing new there for me. Fast paced and gripping from the off, it does contain spoilers for prior novels so be aware before setting off, but as a first read it also gives enough back ground to put everything in context and keep you on edge all along. My review will be posted later this week and you can buy your own copy here.
The Chosen Ones – Carol Wyer
They had not been forgiven. And they would never be forgotten …. When a doting young father is murdered and his body discovered in a cornfield for his family to see, it’s a harrowing new case for Detective Robyn Carter. But just as Robyn starts to investigate, a popular local doctor and young mother, is found dead outside her surgery.
As Robyn tries to find the link between the victims, she uncovers a dark web of secrets. Were these much-loved members of the community as innocent as they seemed?
The killer has a message for Robyn and the carefully chosen victims. Can Robyn get to the truth before she becomes the next target?
If you love Angela Marsons, Patricia Gibney and Rachel Abbott, you’ll love the latest pulse-pounding thriller from Carol Wyer. The Chosen Ones will keep you guessing until the very last page.
What I love about this series, aside from the great characters and the brilliant writing, is that it is set very locally to me and I always chuckle when I see local references. Plenty of that in this book, alongside a chilling set of murders which will make your toes curl and keep you right at the edge of a very uncomfortable seat. Loved it. My review will be a long time coming as publication isn’t until later next month, but you can preorder a copy here. Totally worth it.
The Girl Who Got Revenge – Marnie Riches
Revenge is a dish best served deadly…
A twelve-year-old girl is found dead at the Amsterdam port. An old man dies mysteriously in a doctors’ waiting room. Two seemingly unconnected cases, but Inspector Van den Bergen doesn’t think so…
Criminologist George McKenzie is called in to help crack the case before it’s too late. But the truth is far more deadly than anyone can imagine… Can George get justice for the dead before she ends up six-feet under too?
A heart-racing thriller packed with secrets, lies and the ultimate revenge, perfect for fans of Steig Larsson and Jo Nesbo.
Love this series, loved this book. George McKenzie and her lover Van den Bergen are back and boy what a case they are faced with. Human trafficking and unexplained deaths of admittedly quite aged men. Full of the humour, darkness and brilliant plotting that threads through this series, fans will not be disappointed. My review and an extract from the book will be up on the blog this weekend, but you can order your own copy here.
Busy week on the blog so here is a recap:
A Grand Old Time by Judy Leigh
My Little Eye by Stephanie Marland
Too Close To Breathe by Olivia Kiernan
The Summer Theatre By The Sea by Tracy Corbett
Deadly Secrets by Robert Bryndza
Keeper by Johana Gustawsson
Cover Reveal: The Picture – Roger Bray
The week ahead is pretty tame in comparison although I do have a few tours on the cards for the Ice Swimmer by Kjell Ola Dahl; Body and Soul by John Harvey; The Dark Web by Christopher Lowery; East if India by Erica Brown (Mandie’s review) and The Girl Who Got Revenge by Marnie Riches.
Do have a fabulously bookish week everyone. I will be mostly reading, studying and possibly (maybe) thinking about starting writing myself. Only possibly maybe ish. But probably not. Bust, busy and all that.
Jen
Rewind, recap: Weekly update w/e 15/04/18 You have to admit - this is not a bad way to start a week huh? It was lush if somewhat sickly but highly recommended.

Fairy Light Lovers | Saiyuri | Chapter Two | Katherine
Okay so this "vacation" sucked. People were dead, others were tired, others on edge, nervous, and scared. Yuri felt the full gambit of these emotions (minus the "dead" part) over the last few days. The only silver lining she could find was the company of her roommate and maybe-girlfriend, the talented and beautiful and wonderful Katherine Ueda. Now, Saiyuri knew well enough that this setting wasn't exactly ideal for courting someone, but she might as well make the best of the amenities that were available to her. Besides, a nature walk with a beautiful girl sounded like the perfect thing to lift her spirits.
So here she was, waiting in their shared cottage for her roomie to come home. Of course, nerves were getting her if only a little bit despite the fact that the chance of being rejected was minimal. Still, she couldn't help the butterflies in her stomach nor the pounding of her heart. Maybe, juuuust maybe, they'd make this little fling of theirs official tonight. The get-away indeed sucked. Katherine ended up losing two old classmates, one being a very good friend of hers. Since Aki's murderer Saiyuri would have to handle a very distressed Katherine. Sure, Saiyuri got to hold and cuddle her which was a plus, but she would be sobbing quietly. The reason for Katherine's closeness was a sad and somber one. In good news, Katherine has been in a slightly better mood lately. While she was still sad over Aki's death, it seemed like she was finally getting through the mourning.
Which was a perfect time to get closer?
Saiyuri's maybe-girlfriend walked in casually, holding a few bags of food. It was nice that more food sources have opened up. One can only eat so many burgers before growing sick of them. "Hey, Yuri-chan." Katherine started putting the food away, "How are you feeling today?"
"Welcome home, Kathy-chan!"
Yuri got to her feet the moment Katherine walked through the door. Ever polite, she walked over to help put groceries away, trying not to think about how wonderfully domestic and sweet the scene would be in a different context. She'd take what she could get though.
"Honestly, things are kinda crummy, buuuut I know you know that." She closed the cabinets of their kitchenette once she had finished putting away her part. Turning to face Kathy, she smiled, excited to finally extend her invitation. "I thought about something though! We have more places to go now, right? You haven't really been out and about much since... Well, since Aki." Her voice softened when she brought up Kathy's late friend. She still had trouble treading lightly with that.
"I thought it might be nice if we went on a walk together in the nature part that just opened. What do you think?" It was cute to hear that, to hear welcome home was such a heart warming thing to hear. Living with Saiyuri truly has helped Katherine get through this and her cheery attitude kept Katherine's smile up. The two have gotten closer lately, not saying that they didn't hit it off the moment they met but what was first an exciting blossom of a very gay start has cooled into loving relationship that each of them are too shy to make an actual move.
Hearing Saiyuri's mood, Katherine gave her a little nod, everything was crummy but weeping wasn't getting them any closer to getting out of this place. "I guess I have been a bit of a hermit since Aki's trial... Maybe some fresh air would do me good..." With all the food put away Katherine walked over to her bag, "A walk sounds wonderful, but before we go... I got this thing from the fortune teller and I think you might like it." From her bag she pulled out the light up frame, "I-uh... Maybe once we get out of here and this all becomes a memory... We can take a picture together and put it in this frame... Here, it's for you." The taller girl held out the gift with a blush. "Oh my gosh!!!" She took the frame, examining it and switching it on and off a couple of times for good measure. "Kathy-chan I love this!! Ugh, I swear if I had my phone we could fill it right away. Ahhh!" She stood on her tip toes and threw her arms around Kathy's neck, hugging her for all she's worth. "I love it! Thank you so much!!"
Though reluctant to let go, she did if only to examine the gift a bit more. Of course she would need to pay her back somehow. Maybe she should give that weird machine a try, she did have a bunch of those coins saved up. She couldn't let a gift go unmatched, after all!
After taking a brief moment to set it on their table, she turned to Kathy.
"So! How about that walk? I wanna see what that fairy tree is like." The reaction to the gift was just what she was hoping for! Saiyuri was happy with the gift, so happy that she hugged her. "I'm glad you like it, Saiyuri." She wrapped her arms around her roommate. The blush on her face didn't go away.
"Right! The walk sounds lovely, Yuri-chan." She walked over to the door and opened it, "Let's go see that fairy tree. It sounds as cute as you." And so they went. Saiyuri held her tablet with the (rather unhelpful) map in one hand and gently took Katherine's own hand with the other. They walked through the village as the sun was beginning to set, providing a beautiful backdrop for their outing. Or should she refer to it as a date?
As she walked hand in hand with Kathy, Yuri was quiet, opting to take in the scenery and get lost in her own thoughts. Of course, her mind quickly wandered back to the other girl. She seemed fine now, but...
"Hey, Kathy-chan? You sure you're okay?" This was nice. A calming walk at sunset, holding hands with a cute girl, it was all very ideal for a date… That is what this is, right? Well, Katherine will just quietly assume that it is unless told otherwise. Regardless this best way to forget the horrible situation the group is in. Katherine seems rather calm, feeling herself relax by just touching Saiyuri’s hand.
Hearing Yuri’s concern, it was clear that she was still worried for Katherine’s state from Aki’s recent murder. “Yuri-chan, I… I am not okay and I honestly doubt I ever will be okay… All of this is so overwhelming but… I can’t sit around forever. It isn't fixing what happened… All I can do is hope for the best…” she rubbed her thumb over Saiyuri’s hand, “Thank you for being there for me… You comfort me so well. I can only imagine what sort of mess I'd be without you…” Yuri smiled at that. She normally wouldn't be one to grieve for very long, but she had no idea how close Kathy and Akihiko were. She wouldn't presume to know either. If all she could do was comfort the other girl, then by all powers that exist, she would.
"I wouldn't just leave you in the lurch you know! I..." What exactly should she say? Should she vocalize her deeper feelings now? Was it the right time? "I care about you. A lot! I really do, and when someone comes to get us, when we get out, I wanna still be there for you."
They were getting into the more thickly forrested area now. She took it as an opportunity to crowd in just a bit closer.
"Also, you're not too shabby yourself with the whole comfort thing." Saiyuri was so sweet and always seemed to be cheerful if nothing else. It really brought out the better parts of Katherine, who felt like she could be a little numb time to time. “I care deeply for you too, Saiyuri…” It made her heart beat a bit to say that. “When we get out of here… I want us to still be together, Y’know? I can't imagine us not being around each other after everything we been through… and what we might have to go through.” Romantic situation or not, they can't forget that this little murder game the Fool is putting them through isn’t over.
“Am I? I'm glad you think so… I’m not all that well versed in organic emotions so I never really thought that I’d be good at comforting… I’m probably learning from you, Yuri-chan. You're unbelievable sweet… You're so sweet I could eat you up.” That was a good line she has heard from a few different films… That was a good line right? “These woods are pretty thick… It's a good place for privacy.” Had it not been for the setting sun and cover of the trees, Katherine might've seen how much her comments made Saiyuri blush. Damn!! These lines weren't revolutionary or anything but come on!! Katherine was the one saying them!!
"W-well..." Goodness gracious what was she to say to that? "I guess I wouldn't mind that so much." She looked up at Kathy through her lashes, hoping she looked as cute as she wanted to. She had to impress!
"You know... I am glad we have more room now. I was dying to ask you out you know." She said it! For sure, now it's an established date. She looked up at Kathy to gauge her reaction. "I never took myself for a nature date kinda girl until now." It is a date!!! Yes!!! That conformation made her heart beat more. Thank goodness for heavy makeup or her face would be beet red. So, this is a date, what should she say? Or do? Should she smooch her? No, too soon. “I guess that is one good thing about the trial. We have more room to roam and… have dates to go on.” Katherine looked happy, there was a goofy smile on her face as she looked at everything except for Saiyuri’s face.
“I'm glad you asked me out, Saiyuri-chan… This is my first time being with a girl and I'm honestly having a good time…” It reminded her of the times she has been with boys. Nothing ever make her heart skip a beat when she was with her old boyfriends like how Saiyuri makes her feel, “I like you a lot… I-is that too bold? I'm use to quick relationships but I don't know if you like to take things slower or not but…” There was a lump in her throat, “I just like you… a lot… Wait. I already said that...” June 9, 2017 "No! Not too bold at all!" Saiyuri was smiling happily up at the other girl, over the moon with how well she took the whole date concept. "I like you so so much!! Honestly? I haven't had long relationships either. Things were waaaaay too busy and then my flirting hasn't really gotten me a long term girlfriend basically ever, which sucks, but I think this time is different right?"
She squeezed Kathy's hand lightly. They were rounding the bend now, and it was nearly completely dark out. Where was this fairy tree thing anyway? Surely they must be getting close.
"Kathy-chan, you're so cute... You know that right? Like, how ridiculously cute you are?" “Being kidnapped and forced in some freaky village to play murder games is just a good time as ever to go on dates and start relationships… At least it will show that if a relationship can survive here it can survive whatever problems day to day life might throw.” Katherine lifted Saiyuri's hand and left a big pink blue kiss mark on the the back of her palm. “I think I'd be lucky to have you on my side during this… Anyone would be lucky to have you as a girlfriend.”
Hearing her compliments made Katherine turn her face off to the side, sadly not letting Saiyuri see whatever reaction her words were having on her, “Thank you, Yuri-chan. I hope you know that you're stunning…” Yuri opened her mouth to retaliate, deflect it and say that Kathy was the more stunning of the two of them, but the sight of something stopped her. The fairy tree stood next to the path, lit by countless small lanterns and larger than one could imagine. It was absolutely gorgeous.
"Well, we're here!" Saiyuri smiled and started towards it, pulling Katherine along. "Now, I don't really know why it's called a fairy tree? But if we caught a glimps of a fairy somehow, I'd take it as a sign of good luck, don't you think?" Eena - Last Saturday at 8:49 AM Seeing the beautifully lit tree ahead of them was certainly a sight to behold. It was wonderful, and very romantic, so spending some time under the tree is a good moment to make a real move.
Katherine walked over with Saiyuri until they were standing near the bark of the tree. "Actually, fairies should be anything but good luck since they're tricksters but... I don't think we need a fairy..." Katherine slowly put her hands on Yuri's waist, pulling her in close to her body, "I have all the luck I need with me right now... And what a beautiful lucky charm she is..." Katherine face was deep red, her light brown eyes was looking at Saiyuri, waiting for her reaction. Saiyuri's eyes blew wide at Kathy's compliments. She opened and closed her mouth a few times, meaning to get some sort of counter out, but found she was simply too flustered to do so. Finally, she opted just to bury her face in Katherine's shoulder, effectively hiding her blush.
"Y'know," she began, voice muffled. "I didn't think anyone could possibly out-flirt me but you take the cake on that."
It took another moment for her to look back up at Kathy, but when she did, she accompanied it with a smile. Her arms wrapped around the other girl's waist.
"You know what I think would make this better? How about a kiss for good luck?" "A kiss?... Well, I might break my back trying to get to your level... Unless." Katherine, having a sudden burst of courage, bent her knees and wrapped her arms around Saiyuri's waist. The actress lifts her with an unseen strength, lifting Saiyuri to Katherine's height. She then pinned her back to the trunk of the tree. Katherine had her body pressed up against Yuri's to make sure she wouldn't lose grip.
"There we go. It will make this a lot better..." There was a soft smile as she leaned her head in, giving the lovely singer a kiss under the light of the tree. Yuri squeaked involuntarily when Kathy hoisted her up, face turning even more red. She gladly wrapped her legs around Kathy's waist, making sure she wouldn't fall. That'd be an awful thing to have happen right now. Total mood-breaker.
Besides, who knew someone would actually pick her up for a kiss? And oh, what an amazing kiss it was. Saiyuri closed her eyes and kissed back tenderly, feeling as though she'd died and gone to heaven.
It was over too early, though. They pulled away from each other and Yuri was speechless. She stared half-lidded at Kathy, heart pounding in her chest. Katherine just melted into the kiss. It was such a warm feeling that rushed through her chest. All the time she has wasted doing this with her old lovers, no one has made her feel this way. Saiyuri was something very different and Katherine was loving every moment of it.
When they parted, Katherine looked over Saiyuri's face... And she started giggling. While she laughed Katherine pressed her forehead against Saiyuri's, "My lipstick looks good on you." The moment Kathy started giggling, Saiyuri couldn't help but follow suit. At the actress's comment, she smiled wide, blush still bright and warm on her cheeks.
"I think we missed a spot though."
With that, she went in for another kiss excitedly, wrapping her arms around Kathy's neck. "Oh, did we?" There was goofy grin on the actress's blushing face before going back into another kiss. Saiyuri could hear Katherine happily humming in it.
Once they pulled away Katherine moved one arm away from Yuri's waist and to her face, palming her cheek. She rubbed her thumb against her cheek. Katherine stared into the singer's eyes, her own full of loving affection. "... I wish we could have met back at the academy... Who knows what could have been different... For us." Starting a relationship in a murder game could put a lot of stress under the pair.
"Well...better late than never, right? And hey, it's not like we're never getting out of here."
She punctuated the sentiment with a peck to Kathy's cheek.
"We'll be rescued, we'll leave here, we'll be together forever and we'll invite everyone to our wedding. Doesn't that sound fun? I know a few venues that might be really nice." "We kiss and you jump to weddings? You are certainly in a rush for a perfect ending." At least Saiyuri's words moved Katherine's thought from their current reality. "But a wedding sounds wonderful!" She moved her girlfriend away from the tree and helped her down to the floor. "If we get out of here with our wits still with us, we can handle anything the outside world will throw at us."
Katherine took one of Saiyuri's hands and put the other on her hip, "Imagine our first dance. We're both in beautiful dresses, the people we love are around us watching but we'll only see each other." Saiyuri giggled at that. "What can I say? Love at first kiss is totally possible! Besides, it may just be because I want to show off how i look in different dresses. And of course admire you in one too."
When Katherine set her down and took her hand, Yuri couldn't help but press a kiss to Kathy's fingers, enjoying their warmth. "I already only see you, darling. It's hard to take my eyes off of you, did you know that?" "I had a feeling. You're not very subtle in your staring, Saiyuri..." She giggled.
"Love at first kiss, hm?" She giggled. "Well, if we are to get married, we need to get engaged first..." She bend down and gave her a kiss on top of her head, "And that means I need to propose to you... I want that to be perfect as I can make it here. So, please give me some time to get that ready." She pulled away but was still holding her hand.
"We better get back home, my love." Those words felt so nice to say. "It's getting late..."
With that, the two lovers made their way out of the forest, returning to their bed to dream of a future where they are free from Cliffside.
