Sudden and hard. Felt like a small explosion, like when the compressed gas factory a few miles away from my house exploded years ago, but with no sound besides the soft, faint thunder of a dozen nearby houses shuddering.
And our house shaking, obvs.
Cats were/are not happy.

The message about Henry being the unsung hero possibly appearing in front of Lark during the final battle of season 1 is a little funny to me because Terry Jr. and Grant were both sitting near Lark to act as the navigator and backseat driver.
“… Hey Lark, what’s that about—“
“I’m sure it’s nothing! (Slams foot on gas)”

I looked up the age of the child actors for young Xiao Lanhua (Xiyun) and Dongfang Qingcang because I thought that would be indicative of what their canon ages at the time should be.
Xiao Lanhua’s was eleven when the show filmed, which yeah that tracks. I always imagined her as 10-11 when she was sealed away.
But bb DFQC’s was also eleven, and wow if that isn’t the most excruciating thing I’ve ever heard. Eleven!! When he survived endless torture and was forced to kill his own father!! When he was put on the throne. He wasn’t even a preteen yet. I hate it so much.

I've reached season 5 on my CSI rewatch and I'm a few episodes past "Swap Meet", where a woman is murdered after attending a swing party with other couples from the neighbourhood. Near the end of the episode there's a moment that made me jump from my seat:
(Grissom walks up to Sara and takes the seat next to her. He's holding two cups. He hands her a cup of tea.)
[INT. POLICE DEPARTMENT - BRASS' OFFICE]
Erin Brady: Everybody fantasizes about other people. (She glances at Grissom.)
Even you, Mr. Grissom. A neighbor, a friend ... girl at the office.
[INT. POLICE DEPARTMENT - HALLWAY]
(The door opens. Paul Brady walks out of the hallway. Erin Brady walks out into the hallway. Sara is sitting in the hallway chair watching them. She watches as they meet and kiss.)
(Grissom walks up to Sara and takes the seat next to her. He's holding two culps. He hands her a cup of tea.)
LIKE!!!!!!!
Right after Erin ends her sentence with 'girl at the office', the first time Sara and Grissom meet again, he brings her tea. This might be an innocent interaction but to me it seemed like a nod to this relationship they have where both are into each other, know about the other's feelings, but can't/won't do anything about it (although Sara has kind of given Grissom an ultimatum). I don't know if it was intentional - I'm guessing it is, because I picked it up immediately. I might or might not have squealed in delight.

I saw some discussions about how evil Gortash was when Karlach worked for him, and how she should have been aware, but there are a few things going on that make me believe she never got the whole picture. I think she only saw what Gortash wanted her to see.
She's a victim of powerful people who see other people as tools and pawns for their own ambitions. She's a soldier who was tempted by the promise of a good life doing a job that she believed in (at the time), only to find out the horrors happening under her nose. And I don't think she was ever aware of them!
Karlach makes it clear she wouldn't have worked for Gortash if she knew half of what he was actually doing. She didn't even get the whole picture until she returns to Baldur's Gate with the squad.
And again. She was a child when she started working for Gortash. He must have known what to say to her, specifically, because she believed in him SO much before he ripped everything away from her and betrayed her. I don't think she'd have trusted/respected him if she had even the faintest idea of what was going on.
And that's kinda the story with a lot of soldiers, y'know? They sign up to get themselves out of poverty, they grow up a bit, and they either double down in their beliefs or they realize the life of a soldier isn't what they thought it would be. I think she represents this kind of person really well, tbh.
Then, she spends her entire time back on the Sword Coast protecting people and doing the things that she wanted to be doing with her life, before getting caught up in the service of people out for their own power and conquest.
She is the goodest girl, but even the best people can be caught up supporting the worst people, especially when subterfuge and forced servitude are involved.

congrats on writing the fic that made a man text his (sort of estranged) dad. fr your portrayal of every single dynamic is so flawless and considerate. nobel prize.
THAT ACTUALLY DOES FEEL LIKE AN ACCOMPLISHMENT... i hope it goes well anon!!!
there's a lot to be said about people who did the wrong things but feel genuine remorse and want to get better, i think. i've been there (though not in a parent sense), and it's also what happened with my mom after i moved out, so i guess i kind of know how it is from both angles. on top of, you know, just writing what i know of who chilchuck is as a person (and assuming a lot of things about meijack and the others, lmao...)

i've just realized i haven't really talked about that with anyone for some reason?? i casually came out to my mom and step dad the other week when i was at their place (it went well) by telling them i was dating someone who's non-binary and transmasc. i've only dated cis men before so they had no clue that i'm queer/bi. then i also told my dad yesterday over the phone. and all three of them one of their very first questions was "did they have surgeries?"
like???????? why is that your first question. why are you asking what's in their pants?? not to mention how confused they were by the non-binary aspect of it all, they barely understand what being trans means. my partner's pronouns are they/them in english and il/lui (he/him) in french, which is a whole other complicated thing dskfjbdfs. they don't speak french a lot, but we do live in a predominantly french speaking area, and french is super gendered. it doesn't have a great translation for they/them (there are new words tho but not a lot of people know them yet), and my parents don't really speak english, so trying to explain all of that was confusing for them dfsklndfs
anyway, they weren't being at all judgemental tho, they were happy for me and the questions they asked me definitely came from a place of curiosity and wanting to understand. some questions were definitely not great (like the surgery questions), they didn't even realize it's not something that should be asked (they know now though). my mom really wanted to understand what non binary means. my dad was just like "whatever makes you happy", but he also already knew i was queer even tho i never came out to him because he hinted at it multiple times and i never denied it lol.
my step dad said "i don't need to understand the whole thing to respect it and be happy for you both" and that's the entire point in my opinion!!!
