With this and the other thing about giving Mozilla a licence for anything you upload using Firefox, it seems pretty bad for Firefox being the "actual good browser" now.

What, precisely, is fallen London, and how can I play it? Ive been told it's a browser game, will it work on my phones browser or only my computer's?
SWEEPS EVERYTHING OFF MY DESK. SLAMS MY HANDS ON THE COUNTER. you're in luck because advertising this game is apparently my specialty.
fallen london is a free browser game that works on anything with an internet connection!! laptops, phones, tablets, the decade old 3ds you have stashed in the back of your closet- if you can open a web browser, you can run fallen london. the UI obviously differs between desktop and mobile, and desktop has the benefit of extensions that can make your life marginally easier, but that's all a strictly optional affair.
as for the game's actual contents; fallen london is a text-based horror game closely reminiscent of classic "choose your own adventure" books. you play as a new arrival to an alternate history version of victorian london that now flourishes in a deep, dark, marvelous (and more than slightly eldritch!) cavern known as "the neath", with the goal of making your name and ultimately pursuing one of the four possible ambitions that brought you here to begin with. along the way you encounter a wide variety of strange and inexplicable things, including but not limited to;
men with the faces of squid (who are not truly men)
actual real soul-stealing devils (who originate from Actual Real Hell, which is also london's next door neighbor)
snakes that are eternally bound to the realm beyond mirrors (who have an infamous feud with sapient talking cats)
treacheries of time, law, and all that which the gods hold dear (including the ability to bypass death itself)
sirens who are convinced they're dead (in a place where, as stated, death is easily bypassed)
sentient landmasses that get REALLY annoyed if you don't pay your taxes on time (and are also single and ready to mingle)
fabric that is not fabric (which is held in quite high value by certain giant bat monsters)
spiders that eat eyeballs (but are, fortunately, easily distracted by shakespeare)
genres of colors you didn't think possible (in seven fantastical flavors!)
batkissing (not canonically, but in our hearts)
batfucking (this is, somehow, marginally more canon than the above thing)
batmarriage (no.)
batdivorce (in comically large spades)
The Hat Man (who's in love with and yearns to become like a sentient island)
gay people (a lot of them)
trans people (also a lot of them)
doomed love, in all possible forms (as well as those who try and collect it)
this thing (this thing)
Tumblr media
and last- but certainly not least-
a pitiful hope that perhaps, just perhaps, all shall one day be well. (even when you know it won't be.)
it's a game with lore as deep as the ocean, and a staggering wordcount (4.5 million!) to boot. it's not perfect, but it's something i've grown to love deeply, and in my experience? if it doesn't click for you, that's understandable. but if it clicks for you, it really does click for you. i recommend it to anyone and everyone who so much as looks its way. who knows! it may just surprise you 🦇☀️🦀🌃
as a further incentive, here are some out-of-context items and excerpts:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
as stated, you can play it right now for free at fallen london dot com. there is a subscription and a small bounty of microtransactions on offer if you want to support the development team, but at no point is this ever required, and you will be playing for years before you reach the end of stuff to accomplish. all major content updates are free and available to all players, and FOMO to this day remains virtually non-existent. as once again stated, the browser specs are non-existent. if you can run google, you can run fallen london.
so head on down!! give the neath a try!! follow admiralty orders and dump a bunch of bombs directly into the zee (underground sea) whilst accidentally waking up a giant grieving sea urchin that screams fire and violently pursues your demise!! (that's what we're all doing right now, anyway.)
if the browser game isn't for you, there's also other outlets with which to explore the universe. you can find the spinoff games Sunless Seas, Sunless Skies, and Mask of The Rose available to purchase right now on steam, and there's recently been a very successful kickstarter to adapt the game into a TTRPG. it looks very cool so far. im very very very excited for it :)
in lieu of having to come up with a conclusion for this ask, im instead going to direct you to the MoTR stupendium song (which you'll find linked below). it says far more and advertises far better than i could ever dream of. also, it's a straight bop, and "all ends/swords pens" has lived rent-free in my brain for months.
youtube
welcome to the neath, delicious friend. we hope you enjoy your stay ❤️

a few months ago i checked the hrt informed consent map again and saw that in addition to a planned parenthood near me theres a clinic a few blocks away from it that only does hrt so i feel like it might be better to go to (telemedicine only so idk if i would ever be going there, but if i needed to it's not too far away)
finally a few weeks ago i got the courage to poke around a bit, the link to schedule a visit goes to the telemedicine site, where there's a "book online" button that... does nothing. i click it and it opens an empty window within the page that doesnt ever load anything into it. does the same thing on my phone, and even if i disable ublock (or any other extensions that could be affecting it) and refresh
kind of had a feeling maybe it might be one of those badly optimized sites that doesnt load properly on firefox (the website i use for work was like that a few years back for a while) so today im like ok. i dont want to ever have to use some shitty chromium browser but i would do it to get hrt if i needed to, that's an easy choice to make
so i tried it in edge... and yeah thats exactly what's going on. it doesnt even have a "book online" button it just goes straight to showing the available appointment times, it's like the page loads completely differently? i hate that
so.................................... looks like if i can stop overthinking things so much i could get an appointment as early as tuesday (it couldve been monday if id done it earlier today though). i have that day off and then work the remaining weekdays that week so it's probably a good time to do it, i'm going back to oregon for a week towards the end of july so if it's soon enough that i could have the appointment and prescription by then thatd be really cool
having the appointment be at home makes me a little worried about my mom finding out, but she's told me that if i make that same type of appointment with a counselor she would give me privacy, and i trust her and the house is structured in a way that she should be able to stay far away from me (unless someone comes to the door i guess. but i should hear that), so i think if i just tell her i have an appointment at that time that should work. hopefully she doesnt ask too much about it (i could probably lie and say it's with a new counselor i'm trying out, idk if i could lie through any follow up questions though)
ive wanted this so much and for so many years that it hasnt even felt like it's achievable--the fact i started wanting to be a girl at like 9 but didnt know anything could be done about that for at least a decade has made me way too used to not being able to do anything about it, so it's been really hard to actually adjust to the fact that there IS something i can do
(and then on top of that i live with my conservative family. though im at least fairly certain the worst they would do is not be supportive, and at this point i think i would rather deal with that than keep putting off getting hrt. who knows how many more years it could take for me to be able to move out. i should clarify though that if it did somehow become unsafe for me to live here my transfem friend said she could help me. im 300 miles away but i do have a car)
and the thought that i might actually get on estrogen is so overwhelmingly euphoric that it makes it a little hard to function so that's ironically made it difficult to actually move in that direction. thats one reason i wanted to talk to a gender therapist first but it seems like that might be harder to do, so i guess i might as well jump into this first and figure out what comes next later

hai radio.. ik you've been asked this about a million times but how did you start out making edits and such? you've inspired me and i really wanna make my own because it looks so fun and also do i need a laptop/pc for it because my laptop is on life support rn 😓
Tumblr media
hiii!! i ramble a lot so my answer is under the cut!
ive been editing for like forever, i actually started out with video hehe, but for tumblr editing i started off with just making really simple edits! and as i started to get a general idea of how i liked to do things i built myself up to do more interesting funkier things!
if you want a good, versatile app i recommend photopea, since its extremely similar to photoshop and lets you do a lot! its also on browser so you can edit on any device!! however it can be a bit glitchy so make sure to save A Lot!!
i also reccomend canva!! canva works on browser but it also has a mobile app! and it has a whoooole bunch of fun assets and frames and stuff!! Its fun to experiment in it!!
when you start out editing, try to just learn what you like to do most and how you like to do it! every editor has a different process so try and find what works for you!!
personally, i think a good first edit is icons! they're simple but you can play around with them a lot! there usually the first i make whenever i try to learn new app/program!
and try to have fun!! all good edits are made by having fun!!

Hi! Weird request, but i have been trying and failing all week to track down an online english subtitled way to watch Mondays: See You 'This' Week!. I saw a trailer for it a while back and got obsessed, but am so disappointed that it doesnt seem to be more well known >:[ I found your tumblr by searching the tags! Do you happen to know a way to watch it that doesn't involve learning how to torrent? Cause im willing to learn but am trying to exhaust all my options first. No worries if not!! Thanks!
i highly recommend adblockers and other such internet security things when going to the first site (the one where i watched it) because i do not vouch on that, my pc is fine but its also old enough that im starting to wonder if the viruses are too advanced to run
this is the ONE and ONLY* place where i have found you can watch it for free with english subs without downloading anything
warning that the subs are a Bit fucked, in places theyre out of sync and this is the biggest thing; there is both english and japanese subs at the same time which is a bit distracting but also not the worst considering the circumstances (re: when i first found the dramacool link it was because i had resorted to using Bing)
*the same source just on a different site is here (found upon trying to find a second/better source while replying, i did not find a better source)
its joinked from a streaming site called u-next which does exist and i tried to fuck around with it but iirc (and this was a good few months ago so yknow) it might be region locked on top of being subscription
upon further inspection of the site ive learned that i need to start learning kanji like Stat (i understand only that it has some sort of issue with my browser no matter if its firefox or chrome) but ill link it anyways in case theres any experts out there
closing remarks: i went rabid when seeing this ask im so normal about this movie

AHH Lena ive got a problem!! so i think my blog got hacked into???? but theres nothing diffrent/changed so im not sure but it i was looking at stuff and it says i was "active" at some place ive never been to? but the thing is that weekend i had traveled and somewhat close (like to the neighboring state but it was on the other side away from me) and im not sure if it could just be a glitch? but im still quite worried. i mean i just changed my password but it says it was active recently and i dont know what to do and i dont want to delete my blog (its super small anyways so it wouldnt matter tho)
Don’t panic friend! I’ve got some ideas for you based on some research I’ve done.
(Also apologies for any typos, i’m typing this out on mobile in a waiting room lol)
So, i hadn’t heard of this “active sessions” section of Tumblr before, but quickly found it on the web version under account settings. According to Tumblr’s FAQs, this shows any log ins/access sessions to your Tumblr account by browser, and includes location info, to help you keep your account secure.
Looking at mine, I recognized various devices I’ve used over the past several months, with the locations as my home town. Two logs stood out to me though. 1 - my current session (marked as “current” in green) says my location is in a different part of the state. Odd, but could be due to having a new phone? 2 - apparently a session back in April came from a completely different state. Very odd right?
If i’d come across this back in April, i probably would’ve freaked out like you anon. But the fact it happened 3 months ago (and i haven’t noticed any unusual activity on my account), i couldn’t help but wonder how accurate these locations are…
Hence a research rabbit hole about IP addresses. You’ll notice underneath the city/state display is a string of numbers. This is the IP address of the browser’s network connection. There are several free websites where you can search that IP address and get a much more accurate location… Apparently, IP addresses may not always be accurate due to the geolocation databases they run through. So at the time of that connection, my location was displaying as one place when I was really somewhere else. But when I search that IP address now, it shows my current and accurate location.
I’ve also experienced odd location issues in other areas… like when I access Netflix from a new device and it sends a confirmation email, it usually has the city wrong.
So… this is what I did to look into the odd location activity on my account and i’m comfortable saying it was a IP address geolocation error. It’s possible that’s what you’re seeing on your account too.
If not… next step i would recommend is to double check the email address you have on the account. If someone actually hacked your account, that would be one of the first things they’d change in order to keep access. Really look at the address because sometimes they’ll try to throw you off by making a similar email but with like an added dot, or an extra letter that you wouldn’t catch at first glance. You can change it back to your own address in addition to changing your password.
Those are my two main ideas. I’m not an expert in these things but that’s where i would start, especially if you’re not seeing any suspicious activity on your account. Anyone else with ideas or experience here, feel free to chime in!

okieee i might start language blogging because i am feeling really determined lately and i find it helps stay motivated and track my progress ^_^
well after years of being bitter that my multilingual parents haven't taught me their first languages im trying to focus more on being consistent with learning french, but also in a possibly less advisable move ive decided to pick up japanese again for the first time since high school (on the grounds that my best friend and i are planning a trip next year and i would really like to not be the asshole tourist who can't order food or follow basic instructions)
i've found that since taking uni-level language courses it's quite a bit easier to sink into japanese in terms of figuring out sentence structure and not being alarmed by how wildly different the grammar is from english. i think the motivation of having a goalpost within the next year also helps lol... i know it's possible to achieve n5 within a few months, so it would be cool to be that competent if not moreso by my trip
in terms of language tools, i've been taking out some reading comp workbooks from my library but unfortunately they're very high demand rn so i can only really hang onto them for a week or two at a time. podcasts and stuff have also been really nice. im a longtime d*olingo fan and it's ok for getting practice but really not as much for actually learning grammar or context... esp for jpn lol. also atrocious for learning kana, so i used tofugu's hiragana exercise for this and memorized everything in like ~3 hours, whereas dl would've taken... weeks probably. it's really bad
on that note i really like tofugu so far in general as a hub for learning resources. they also have wanikani, which is a kanji/vocab in-browser app. it's free for the first couple levels so im going to try it out, and i like that it uses spaced repetition, but im kind of dubious on the price (90usd or whatever for a year is kind of absurd sorry.)
anyhow that's it for now. byeee

Not sure what its worth but i really would value some type of youtube link if able, i dont have spotify and it wont play the whole song without logging in
Love the concept though. When i had the time ive looked up a few of the songs and theyre great. I love getting to hear/know smaller bands or just ones out of my wheelhouse
I believe you should be able to listen to albums on bandcamp without logging in! i've been able to include bandcamp links for most of these i believe. in the future if that's not available i'll try to find a youtube link as well.
let me know if there's issues doing that, i did just test it with the last album on my browser where I'm not logged in and it seems to work fine but honestly i don't use bandcamp much so idk if that's always how it works. I know not everyone uses spotify or apple music and i want everyone to be able to listen who wants to, but i do want to try and avoid having to find a bunch of links every time and i know people use lots of different stuff for music, so if bandcamp works as a middle ground i'd like to stick with that as much as possible. especially since i know that that's posted by the actual artist and not some rando lol
thanks btw, Im really glad you've enjoyed what you've heard :)🖤

im having trouble assigning one metric like age, weight, vitals, emotional state, etc. to memory usage because it's such a computer-y concept- maybe a combination of several of those things?
when you're talking about memory... uh... it's not really...
it's weird- UM- heRE's HOw RAM WORKS:
.
in general* there's two ways to handle data:
slow to access, but i can store a lot of data basically forever, or super fast, but i can only store a little, temporarily.
RAM (Random Access Memory) is the second option. it's a physically different chip from the long-term-big-storage one, and it is designed to multitask many, many file accesses/calculations/other processes at once. video games, modeling/editing/animation software, and web browsers commonly eat up a lot of RAM (a LOT: check out Flash up there at the top easily munching 300 thousand K* for the simplest possible animation) *we are going to pretend it's that simple because trying to research this further made the later sections of RUSH-E start blasting in my head :) (further reading that looks correct probably about things that are and aren't the "active private working set" (column displayed by default in Task Manager -> Details and the animation))
Tumblr media
(here's 3 windows of 18 tabs of OperaGX as an example)
so it's not really the runtime of the program ("im not sure if their memory usage is reliant on how long they've been existing..."), but what its function is, that foreshadows its required RAM.
"...or how. complex they were drawn." <- this one should work. since they're all separate programs, they each have to handle their own graphics, and would use a type of RAM to keep up their silky smooth framerates and procedural animations.
and there's the. THOUGHTS. SENTIENCE. that they all have, of course. i can only assume they use computer working memory (a bit more RAM) like humans use our working memory, and permanent save files stored elsewhere for long-term stuff, because there is no other reference for how a functioning person-program works.
that doesn't explain why orange's number is so different from RYGB... and even when a program doesn't display anything or have feelings the RAM usage shown in Task Manager changes a lot... but in IV it stays exactly the same throughout for every single program..... (i was about to be excited if trying to end TheSecondComing.exe spiked his metrics or something but nothing happens *sad nerd face*) .....so im pretty sure not much was intended on Alan's part by assigning any of these RAM usage values, except for cinematic reasons: giving TheSecondComing.exe much less than the StickFigure[Color].exes forces c!Alan to search for it, realize it has a weird name, and zoom in all dramatic on it for the Description reveal, all because it's further down the list. :P
.
but if i were forced to speculate anyway-
id guess that the StickFigure[Color].exes use more RAM because they come from a game. maybe they're carrying around the game scripts that are responsible for waiting for user inputs. TheSecondComing.exe was never designed to be controlled, so would lack user input listeners by default. why does RYGB have different individual RAM usages? heck if i know- the discrepancies are small enough i think it's just. normal fluctuations. since they're doing different stuff and are variations on the same program, they'd likely stay near each other in RAM requirements, but trade places with who's using the most constantly.
is that all? uhhhh well all i know about getting user input is it can get complicated. suppose it might be 13,516 K complicated.
the only other thing i thought of is TSC.exe could hide suspiciously high RAM usage by stealing from Flash's allocated space. but i dont know if that's a real thing, even for worms. -> if it is, the story goes that, like Minecraft performance can increase by allocating more RAM for it, Flash probably has a big chunk set aside for processing animation-related stuff. TSC.exe, related/attached to Flash, may have access to this chunk, using some of Flash's resources instead of clocking more usage for itself on the Task Manager. the remaining 3,012 K may therefore be impossible to hide or outsource, and would account for... idk, the minimum RAM required to maintain a sapient stick figure? <- again, fully riffing and playing pretend with my touys there though. NOT sure if any of that section is anything. but it would be neat \o/
.
(side note: i tried to look back and see if avast! describes TCO's memory usage, but that metric doesn't show up :T and i dont think there was time to check TDL's or anyone else's in III or V)
.
SO WHAT IS IT HUH?
aaaaaaaaauuuu
it's not clear what the differences mean. it likely does not mean anything at all canonically (cinematic reasons). but i can confidently say that the Memory value probably corresponds to an individual stick figure's current: physical state (stored position, limb arrangements, collisions), display data (color, frame generation, frame display), emotional state (neutral vs intense), mental state (how hard they are thinking), extra features (game data, other attachments to parent programs), independence (is or isn't using memory through another program), and probably other things simultaneously.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i went and collected those numbers
however... it seems this metric we were discussing wasn't related to file size after all, it was memory usage.
i do not know enough about memory to immediately recognize the implications of this information but still cool to know and weird and interesting that they're so different 👉👉 handing to you for safekeeping
OHHHHHHHH !!!!!! i didnt even see the memory tab i really thought it was their file weight lol. man i really wonder what i can do with it. seems like red is consuming too much memory LOL
im not sure if their memory usage is reliant on how long they've been existing or how. complex they were drawn. its interesting to think about. we keeping it fr

sarah i have thought of another fic request or like a cute idea i guess! i didn’t have anyone in mind when i thought of it so you can write it for whoever you want honestly :)
okay so the reader is a streamer but streams games like animal crossing, standew valley, etc. then (insert who you’re writing for) says they don’t like that game, but later ends up buying it and the reader is like “i thought you said you didn’t like this game” and they’re like “well i like you” and they confuses their feelings and they end up playing the game together and reader gives them a tour of their island or farm
i feel like this request isn’t good, but the scenario seemed cute and i wanted to share it. sorry if this is confusing or just too specific cuz i know it can be hard to write requests like that! but yeah i hope it gives you inspiration and you like the request <3
new horizons
warnings: language, a Marvel reference (hint: natasha said it about tony), stupid idiots who don’t realize they like each other, use of pet names, Uno rage, Hasan Piker's presence
words: 1473
tags: sapnap x gn!reader
A/N: i’ve been trying to catch up a little on my requests (i’ve only got a couple so i’m not super overwhelmed) but school and outside life has been taking up most of my time so this one took me a while to make! tbh— ive never played animal crossing so i did google some of the game mechanics and i apologize if anything is inaccurate about the game…. but i liked relaxing and writing this cute one so thank you for requesting hails :3

“This game is trash.”
Your head quirks, fingers stopped on the screen. You’re in the process of giving your character a cute new nickname; it’s kind of hard to decide between “awkward dude” and “elderly skater”.
“Excuse me?” Your chat comes alive with emotes and ‘KEKW’s, obviously entertained by you and your almost-more-than-friends-friend.
There’s a story for that later.
Sapnap’s rough laugh comes through your headset and he audibly swallows, the sound of a water bottle dropping onto his desk echoing.
“I’m just saying—it’s boring. It’s like Minecraft but you don’t like… do anything.” The grainy image of his bearded face shifts and you see him pull out his phone.
“It’s— you can’t even compare it to Minecraft! It’s a completely different game system—you actually interact with other people live in the game.” You huff out a dramatic sigh, slumping in your chair with a pout. “Just because you go into this lucid state where all you know is ‘touch block, hit George’ doesn’t mean this game isn’t fun.” (He scoffs at your awful impression of his voice. Your viewers love it.)
“Jeez,” he mumbles, fumbling with the cap of his water bottle. “Touched a nerve there, bud.”
You roll your eyes, getting back to the village in the game.
“Don't ‘bud’ me.”
The call falls comfortably quiet, the sounds of him tapping obsessively on his phone and you clicking away filling the silence. A gentle bedroom-pop YouTube playlist remains in the background, prompting you to hum along and glance at the chat to see a flood of “check twitter” and “Y/N TWITTER!!”.
“What happened on Twitter?” You mumble, confused, and pull the website up on another monitor. Sapnap just makes a curious noise, swinging back and forth in a circle. “Oh my God,” you say to yourself, fingertips brushing your parted lips.
“What?”
“Hasan Piker just followed me and retweeted one of my not even remotely political old tweets. Like from a year ago.”
“That’s— wow. Congrats?” Sapnap’s voice cracks, and his ears flush pink the tiniest bit when you glance at his face on Discord.
“I’m gonna go on record and say that he could get it.” You shake your head in disbelief.
Sapnap falls uncharacteristically non-hyper-verbal, so you look past the frenzied chat and to his screen— wait. He muted and turned his camera off.
“Um,” you start, furiously typing question marks in your private chat. “Where’d you go?” You mute and turn screen share off for your stream, concerned that he might’ve fallen off his chair and broken his neck and needs you to call the ambulance.
The characteristic ding of a twitter notification sounds through your bedroom, and you look at your phone quickly.
“That’s where I went.”
Sapnap Tweeted: “all Y/U stans can choke on my dick”.
“Jesus, Sapnap,” you say, and rapidly refresh to read the replies. This tweet was deleted. “That’s so— that barely makes sense, bro. Why— literally what?”
His snicker floods your ears and you relax in your chair. Crisis: averted. “Don’t fucking— what’s wrong with you?”
“I thought it would be funny,” he offers, shrugging, and fiddles with the straw in his water bottle, smile fading. “And also Hasan pisses me off.”
“Why, ‘cause he wants a piece of this? Jealous?” You think back to your viewers, knowing they’re probably spamming question marks and coming to ludacris conclusions about both of your absences. No offense to them. You remember your stan days very vividly.
“I mean, kinda.” He rubs once at his nose, glancing at the camera (and what feels like you) before taking a sip from his water bottle.
“Wow.” You watch one strand of his hair fall from beneath his hat and brush against his full eyebrows. “I’m uh—I’ll get back to my stream. You coming? Or is it time for a Sapnap-snack?”
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” He snorts and leans his chin onto the balance of his arm.
“That means you like to take a little snack break mid-stream and come back approximately nine hours later and you didn’t even eat.”
“You know what— fuck you.” He flicks the camera as you laugh at the look on his face.
The teasing mood is easily kept as you switch games from Animal Crossing to Uno, all the while slamming Sapnap with +4’s and skipping the newly-arrived BadBoyHalo at any chance you can get. It unironically pisses him off and he has to take a Sapnap-snack break midway through (only a fifteen minute break this time, during which you and Bad take a “What Kind of Bread Are You?” quiz). The rest of the night is filled with devious cackles (you), loud and sudden bangs that sound suspiciously like someone hitting their desk in anger (Sap) and the stupid barking of Rat, AKA Lucy (Bad). She’s cute but a menace to the sound quality of Bad’s microphone. You sign off stream around 2 a.m. with various forms of thanks and kisses blown to the camera. It’s been a refreshing night, actually; you’ve been busy organizing a partnership stream all week and all your friends have been busy filming or editing or what-not. Quackity had time for a little Roblox every couple of days, though. He’s got your back.
The next time you see Sapnap is after a two hour stream of him try-harding in Valorant and you finishing responding to an email from your partnership in the VC.
“Okay, I’m back.” You hear him shift in his chair and click a couple more times on his keyboard. You perk up in your chair, closing the email browser you’d been looking at.
“Do you want to play anything else? I’m down for anything.”
“Absolutely not Uno. You can go to hell for giving me 6 cards that one time,” he jabs. You scoff, crossing your arms and leaning back in your chair.
“Okay, the +4 was on me but it’s Bad who gave you the last two. That’s not my fault, sweetie.”
“Yeah, yeah,” he mumbles, trailing off as the clicking of his keyboard stops. “Hey, um—Guess what?”
Your heart beats loud in your ears at the tone of his voice. He sounds nervous; that’s never good.
“I’m scared to guess,” you try, playing with a little Minecraft dog figurine you have on your desk with fidgety fingers. “What?”
“I bought Animal Crossing.”
Silence. You stare at his discord icon blankly, trying to reroute the wires of your brain.
“Tell me you love it.”
“Well… I haven’t actually played it— but you said you liked it, so.”
“So,” you repeat him, ears warming but continuing on. “Is that what you tell all your friends when you buy something they like? That it's because of them?”
He seems to choose his next words carefully, pausing a beat to consider your questions.
“Well, I don’t have a crush on all of my friends.”
“You—what?” You stutter, caught off guard and stumbling. What did he just say? “Don’t tell me you mean you have a crush on me.”
“I’m almost positive I just did.” His discord icon stares right back at you, taunting.
“You know, you’re very casual for someone who just admitted they like-like me.” Your cheeks flush pink and you have to press a hand to your chest to keep your breathing sounding stable.
“Yeah, I’m kind of cool like that,” he offers, a huff of a laugh punctuating his statement. The conversation moves into a lull that you can’t help but know is because of you. He must expect you to say something about it, right?
“You are very cool, Sapnap.” You tilt back in your chair, sucking in a breath to prepare yourself for your next words. “And—Isortakindofhaveacrushonyoutoo.”
He must understand you, for you can hear the grin in his voice when he asks “Really?”
“Y-yeah.” You feel like a preteen again, all shaky and giddy in front of the boy you just asked to a middle school dance.
“Um, alright. What do we do now?”
“I don’t know,” you answer genuinely and swing in a happy little circle in your chair. “We could play Animal Crossing.”
“I’m down.”
You swear you’ve never heard more beautiful words.
He keeps his camera off for most of the time you two play, too focused on creating his island and asking you questions about how to fish to turn it on. He silently flips it on when you help him decorate his lawn, needing to show you in real-time the decorations he has bought and where you think he should put them. He looks cute. I mean, of course he does. He always does.
You tell him goodbye late in the night, eyes saying a little more than just “see you tomorrow”.
You like him. He likes you.
It’s even better when you two have matching gardens.

I will need to see which of my accounts I backed up evidence of these scammers I have saved when I have more energy again for it. I could break down a lot more helpful information for people to learn.
There is one particular scammer months ago I got deleted off of twitter, paypal and gofundme repeatedly. She's faking ailments and even takes it so far to photoshop herself into a hospital she's never been in! She keeps changing her name for paypal, too. I've had others pretend to be minorities they really aren't.
I've had some cyber security education (both from school and for the purpose of work) this shit is obvious to me, but it isn't to everyone.
Some other quick tips:
Anyone speaking on the importance of a situation recognize the integrity of keeping information clear, concrete, consistent, professional with little errors in language/typing, and will not communicate in a dramatic fashion meant to trigger you to "act before thinking." This means there should be no exaggerated (or repetitive) deadlines or ultimatums. Examples: 'You must do this thing before this even worse thing happens to me' or 'you will suffer consequences if you do not do this thing you didn't think through and verify information for at the expense of my random and unrealistic demands which, of course, come at your expense.'
Well intentioned people don't make threats to their donators or potential future patrons. People in need are never so entitled at the expense of help, because they realize that's counterproductive and selfish behavior. Most well-intentioned people are scared to even ask for financial help!
Gofundme links for donations should ALWAYS link to gofundme.com with no other alterations to the url. No excuses! This goes for many that try to redirect you to paypal, venmo, cashapp, whatsapp, etc. Gofundme is set up to track where donations are going and not just coming from. Many scammers hope you will not realize this. That doesn't mean that Gofundme couldn't have scammers itself, but at least they could be better tracked. Gofundme should refund you if you're impacted.
Links should start with a proper HTTPS:// and no hyphens anywhere in them. They should also include a security lock symbol in the browser link beside the url. This means there is encryption between you and the web server to prevent eavesdropping or to reduce risk of being redirected to a site loaded with malware.
Donators would not be spamming donations of themselves or others that mirror their claims. A person doing this on a blog site is likely just making duplicate accounts and redressing them or they're linked with a scam operation.
Is the name on any donation accounts the same as the person asking you for the donation? Or is there a different name?
Learn situational awareness: Someone says they're in a hospital and reveal pictures of themselves allegedly there--take a good look at their settings and state of dress/undress. Are they in a hospital gown which is always required? Are they hooked up properly to a tangible IV? Are the bandages following sanitary protocols doctors would take? Is the environment clean and showing signs of other medical equipment? Do the symptoms they mention make sense to the illness/disease they claim to have?
Many try to claim astronomical sums that make no sense for the situation, and they claim they're reoccurring. If something needs immediate resolve and the person can't handle it, then why are they putting themselves in that circumstance repeatedly that they cannot afford without looking for some professional assistance or verification they tried? They already muck it up by letting it on immediate help would fix the situation, so why do they need money every month?
For instance, if they're in a hospital: almost seldom do hospitals require up front pay. Patients would have to wait for a bill from their insurance, or they would find out they're not covered later. People rarely know their charges beforehand. Any pre-existing medical conditions that need regular treatment with known costs would be handled by a specialist (not located at the hospital). Hospitals are typically intended for ephemeral, emergency treatments and not long term. Even in the case of specialty hospitals billing happens later.
Do not give money to anyone at any point of time you don't know (or isn't connected with something legally verifiable and protected) that's demanding this sensitive material from you: permission to data, phone number, address, social security number, your photo id, etc. Do not agree to release cookies or firewall for them, either. Do not remove ad blockers or click onto ads. Do not click on any pop ups no matter how innocent seeming. Do not disable any antivirus programs you have.
If you get a popup link saying "WARNING your computer's security has been compromised and you must click on this immediately to fix it"--DO NOT click on anything or stay on the browser. You will likely realize you can't redirect out of your link when this happens. Whether or not this is the case, entirely shut down your computer and reboot. Do not do anything online till you run your antivirus and antimalware systems following the reboot. Update your passwords immediately to something unique and long and do not write it down for memory anywhere where you have a device linked to the internet. Keep these things separate and out of sight.
Always verify the legitimacy of things through BBB (Better Business Bureau, Trustpilot, the IRS and/or TEOS (Tax Exempt Organization Search). Sites like the BBB and Trustpilot are helpful for verifying companies/non-charitable organizations too! See an online shop you question if they're legit? BOOM. Remember if you find the absence of info on something that doesn't mean it's proof if it's good or bad, it means it's a risk. This can happen if a new shop spawns for instance. Many individuals like to scam through shopify for instance and pretend they're running more lucrative businesses that aren't actually large or established at all. Be careful of that, because that's another huge scam that finds it's way onto sites like Instagram and Facebook.
There are also scams going around against Artists online via Cara, Deviantart, etc. where anonymous or vague accounts with little or no content try to express fake interest in your original creations for commission, but they're trying to redirect you to other sites to be scammed for personal info, money or to get you to relinquish your copyright to your work! Do not risk it.
If any other information comes to mind, I'll mention it later.

ive been rereading your fics as you post some and just wanted to say theyre just as great the second or third time!! i think youre an awesome writing and i really enjoy your characterization and the way you bring these characters to life. my question is, what WIPs do you have going on rn? (at least, which ones are active?) are there any that you struggle with more than others? how do you decide which to work on? (i have three WIPs rn and my decision making process is usually just “vibes” but yknow)
Aw, that's so nice of you to say! Thank you so much! 💜 Well, I'll admit, currently my WIPs are kind of a mess. The most active ones at present (as in, they are each up as tabs in my browser to shame me into working on them) are: seemed like a good idea at the time (aka the pregnant Boba one) conduit (aka my first real attempt at stetopher) a trick of the light (aka jedi boba and force-less luke) tribute (aka where stiles gets left as a gift for the werewolves and peter gets clingy) On top of that the fic I have started on ao3 I have every intention of finishing (most esp the Vamp QuiObi so willowcrowned will keep being my friend) and then there's a handful of stuff that I started posting here on tumblr that I'd like to complete (cowboy din/swamp witch luke/vamp boba is one... witch peter hale/werewolf stiles is another)
I have a problem in that any time I post a fic or chapter I reward myself by writing something completely different to decompress. Sometimes that winds up being a whole other wip and then you get... ugh... 11? 12? Wips that I'd like to see through until the end.
My biggest issue with WIPs is I'm usually good to write up until I either hit a plot snag or I need to make a decision--like there are two ways the scene could go-- that would wildly change the rest of the story and I can't figure out what to do. That's when I put it to the side to think about. When I think myself out of that snag... or at least I’ve finally gotten enough sleep I can really put my mind to it... I’ll pull the fic up and look at it again. That’s also how I decide what to work on when. A lot of it comes down to how much brain power the fic requires to fix and how much sleep I got. Usually the answer is “not much sleep” and so I just write a drabble or a oneshot to not feel so itchy and try again later.  Vibes are absolutely the right way to go, though! Chase what is interesting to you in the moment, and then there’s a good chance you’ll make some headway on *something* which is ultimately the goal. My friend spqr is always telling me to only work on one thing at a time, but I’ve come to (mostly) make peace with the fact that my brain doesn’t work as linearly as that. So whatever works for you hold on to that and chase it with everything you’ve got. Thanks for the ask! And good luck with your 3 WIPs!

Jiliu AU Part 2
Beginning, Next, Masterlist
A/N
Warnings:
Blood, blood transfusions, allergic reactions, fake medical practice (I did my research, but google hates me. Also, I need science to Not Work for plot, so...), competent medic who is Not Panicking, bad personal care, implied nudity (?), the clones’ situation, mention of decommissioning (How would a normal person phrase that?), Kaminoans (who really are their own warning), ruthless misuse of the em-dash
The usual host of bad spelling and grammar errors.
Don’t do any of this at home folks. Kix is a professional. I very much am not.
I can finally close the blood loss tab on my browser. It will be another chapter before I can get rid of the Transfusion tab, though...
~~~~
The medbay was quiet. The loudest noises were the Vod’e who wheezed with every breath, or when someone twisted in their bed. The lights were dim to allow the patients to sleep while letting the medics on shift move around freely. Everything was calm, and clean, and not even close to mirroring Kix’s mental state.
He stared sightlessly at the durasteel floor between his blood and dirt smeared boots, elbows to knees, head in hands. If he had enough hair to grab he’d probably be pulling on it. As it was, he settled for digging the pads of his fingers into his scalp. Something hot and heavy was draped over his hunched shoulders, prickly against his neck and the gaps in his armor. Somehow, that weight made it both easier and harder to breathe.
Kix wondered if this was what resignation felt like.
It wasn’t defeat. Kix was well and truly familiar with what defeat felt like. He was a clone medic in a suicide company made of expendable clones, in an army of other clones owned by a Republic that didn’t care if they lived or died, only if they completed their missions. Defeat was a weight Kix kicked off with his blanket every morning before he rolled out of his berth.
This was...heavier. Draining.
He kept replaying the last seven hours in his head, trying to see where he went wrong, could’ve made a different choice.
It had been Kix, his unconscious General, his Captain, and two injured shinies on top of a sheer sided Pilar of Rock with no foreseeable back up. His General was bleeding out right in front of him, because of course the self sacrificing di’kut had run on a leg with a cut artery then proceeded to tear it further open when he landed wrong after an impossibly high jump carrying two entire troopers all by himself.
Kix had needed to preform field surgery to close up the artery with his depleted supplies. There was no way around it, the injury was too severe to simply slap a bacta patch on even if Kix had had a patch big enough to work. Even if he wasn’t half certain bacta didn’t work half as well for General Skywalker as it should.
By the time he had stitched the site shut, the General had lost too much blood. He was laying in a puddle of the stuff, not to mention however much was caked in his clothes and what he’d left behind when they were running.
His skin was as pale as anything Kix had ever seen, though perhaps that shouldn’t have been so surprising since the General did have a lighter skin tone then any of Kix’s vod’e. A quick check marked the General’s heart rate as weak, and way too fast. Slower then it had before he had passed out, but still not good. His skin was clammy.
Kix’s skin was clammy too, but that was fear-sweat, not blood loss. Why hadn’t he noticed that the General was injured? He was going to die—the thought was crushed before it can do more then trace claws of fear down his spine.
He needed an IV. Kix’s medpack didn’t have an IV bag of anything, much less ringer solution.
“Kix.” The Captain’s voice sliced through the buzz of Kix’s thoughts.
Kix’s eyes snapped up and collided with determined brown eyes. His update comes tumbling out of his mouth by route. “I’ve repaired the cut artery, treated the blaster burn with bacta, along with the scratches on his side. He’s lost too much blood, and is going into hypovolemic shock. He needs fluids.” Kix snatched up his scanner from where he’d dropped it to treat the General’s leg, and tapped the screen sharply with a semi-clean knuckle. “I don’t have any to give him.” The device beeped, and the screen showed it was till set to the default natborn setting. Kix ran the wand over the General’s body again, hoping against all sense of logic that this time, this time the thing would find some injury, internal bleeding, stab wound, something for him to treat.
Kix made himself stop. Breathe. Reassess.
General Skywalker had three injuries that the scanner and Ki’s hands had been able to find. All of them have been treated to the best of his ability. The General was dangerously low on blood. He needed fluids. Kix did not have fluids.
Where can Kix get fluids?
“Check in with me, vod.” The Captain ordered.
Kix’s eyes darted back to his eyes. Something clicked together deep down in Kix’s mind. A very very tiny part of his mind noted that something broke to make that possible. This was easily swept aside in favor of the crash of realization rattling through his body.
He shied away from the idea.
He didn’t know enough about blood transfusions. This could go horribly wrong. He only knew this was a thing because of one class, from the single mention made by the sole Mandalorian medic trainer he had, and the resulting eight minutes of research Kix done after.
Even as he thought this, his traitor brain pulled up everything he’d found in those measly eight minutes. Variables, risks, everything blared out at him in warning—there was a reason why blood transfusions are considered a primitive practice.
There was testing. Kix didn’t have any sort of lab with him; he didn’t even have a ph tester kit.
The General’s red blood cell markers match the Vod’e’s.
But the consequences of a bad blood transfusion—
Kix cut his thoughts off there. That way lead panic, and death.
But Rex is right there.
“I will do what I must to save who I can.”
Kix forced the words through his teeth, because he had a vow to keep, and he would follow through. “The General needs fluids.” Or he will die, he didn’t say. “The only fluids we have to give him—” just say it“—is our own.”
Rex had blood. He could spare some for their general, if he was so inclined. If he wasn’t, or if he was, and the General needed more, Kix could spare some.
Kix dismissed the possibility of ‘68 and ‘57 giving blood, because ‘68 was at risk of an infection with how his knee had been skinned then buried in mud, and ‘57 with how his forearm had been filleted with a dirty vibroblade wasn’t any better. Who knew what kind of contaminants they were carrying? Certainly not Kix.
He pushed that from his mind, and reached back into his pack to remove the coil of clear tubing meant for— not this. He will do what he must. Next came the needles. Rex watched silently.
Kix arranged the tube in his lap, and hammered the words that needed to be said together ruthlessly.
“Do you want to go first, or shall I?”
Rex was very still for a very long moment. Then he sighed, and started removing his left vambrace. “I’ll go. If he goes critical, it’d better if you have a clear head.”
Kix nodded sharply, and got to work. He cut the sleeve on the General’s left arm, then cut Rex’s blacks away. A quick bacta wipe, then the first needle went into the crook of Rex’s elbow. Kix moved the tubes until there aren’t any bubbles he can see, and cleaned the crease of General Skywalker’s elbow. He slid the needle in and taped it down.
Just until pick up came.
Within six minutes of Rex’s blood reaching the General’s, hives had formed around all three of his injuries. The three injuries Kix had treated with bacta. Bacta, Kix was eighty-four percent certain the General had a biological resistance to. The hives even showed where traces of the bacterial gel had clung to his gloved fingertips before being smeared onto the skin surrounding the injury he was treating.
General Skywalker is allergic to bacta. This fact was not in his medical file. It is not mentioned anywhere in the rather extensive list of injuries he had raked up over the last decade, or in any of the many, many doctor’s (Healers, Jedi called them healers) notes.
Kix wasn’t entirely certain why he expected anything else.
He makes short work of removing the allergen with a fresh wad of gauze and reached back into his nearly empty medpack. Thankfully, Kix had had the foresight to pack four hypo cartridges of antihistamine when he was putting his medpack together for this mission since the debriefing package on the local plant life included a fern he could name no less then eighteen Vod’e to be allergic to off the top of his head. Kix had, miraculously, not had the need to use any of them since his boots hit the ground. Partly because he had only been in range of a a squad of shinies, Rex, and the General, and possibly because the filters in their buckets had decided to do their job this mission. Which was good, because he would end up needing all four cartridges to keep his General from asphyxiating before pick up.
Kix gave the General the first dose of medication with a hypo to the neck, then checked his heart rate again. Slower then before, likely because the General had actually allowed himself to sleep when Kix had told him to, but still weak. His breathing was still shallow, if more regular.
There was... nothing else Kix could do.
He shared a look with Rex, before settling down at his general’s side. They had time.
Pick up had been a long time coming. Kix gave the General another hypo when the hives started spreading again. Rex had given enough blood that he had started to show symptoms of blood loss, so Kix was forced to transfer the needle to his own arm. He gave General Skywalker another dose of antihistamine.
Time passed, marked only by the changing clock on his HUD, the beat of his own heart in his ears, and when ‘57 went to drag ‘68 closer. The shinies settled on the other side of Rex, who was actually following orders and laying down to allow his blood loss weak body time to rest.
It wasn’t long before Kix started to feel the blood loss himself.
It took ‘57 jumping to his feet, waving his one uninjured arm wildly for Kix to notice that the gunship converging on their position. Rex, he notes with concern, had only sat up instead of getting to his feet. Too much blood. Kix added fluids for him to his ever growing list of things to do.
The gunship landed, the disruption from the stabilizers kicking up clumps of grass and long dead leaves from the sole tree clinging to the top of their Pillar. The door slides open and four Vod’e jump out. One of them, Kix saw, was bright enough to bring out a medpack and a stretcher. The red medic symbol on his spaulder said why.
Kix was on his feet before he could think. A tiny part of him took a sliver of energy to be very glad that the tube connecting his circulatory system to the General’s was long enough for him to do that without ripping anything out. The rest of him just called up the list he’d been making since the mission began, and started rattling off demands.
“You with the medpack, help me get the General on that stretcher. You,” he pointed at the Vod in the lead—who is thankfully not a shiny, small mercies— with his free arm, “help the Captain to the ship, then get a bag of ringer solution ready for him.” Kix pointed at ‘68, who ‘57 was helping to his feet. “He needs to stay off his leg. I need a bag of ringer solution for the General, asap.”
“Sir!” All four of them break to do as they were told.
The medic trotted up, and dropped to his knees. He situated the stretcher in front of him and started prepping the General for transfer. Kix paused for a moment, watching, to just take a moment to gather himself. Then he applied himself to getting the General packed up for pick up.
They are airborne within three minutes.
The moment General Skywalker was settled on the medical rack, Kix set about replacing the tube connecting their arms together with an IV of ringer solution. To the medic he said “Run a scan on him. He’s bleeding from somewhere and my scanner couldn’t find where it is.” He smacked a plaster onto his own elbow, and clamped his forearm to his bicep in hopes of staunching the blood flow.
The moment he had one of his hands free he turned to looking over the other three Vod’e he’s had with him. He checks the needle one of the others had stuck into Rex’s arm, the fluids he was attached to to check it was actually ringer solution. Rex endured his check over stoically.
Satisfied, Kix moved on to the shinies. He only paused long enough to check that the plaster had adhered to his needle puncture, before checking them over. ‘68’s knee was showing early signs of infection, so Kix gave him a hypo of antibacterial to hold him off, and handed him off to the Vod who had carried him onto the gunship. Kix rattled off instructions on how to change the bandages and which antibacterial gel to apply while he did a quick check on his work with ‘57’s hastily relocated elbow.
Kix was back at his general’s side just as the Vod’s scanner beeped.
The other medic didn’t even look up from his scanner as he read off the findings. “A blaster burn, cut and sutured artery that is no longer bleeding, some shallow cuts on his right flank. All of them had been treated with bacta, and all of them are showing signs of a bad allergic reaction. He has some minor bruising as well, and he may have strained his right elbow at some point. He’s running a fever of a hundred and one degrees, and has all of the symptoms of heavy blood loss, sir.” He tapped at the scanner’s screen, and continued. “The fluids will solve the blood loss, but he needs more antihistamines, and we need to bring his temperature down.”
Kix scowled. “Yes, except I’ve spent the last hour and fifteen minutes pouring over a liter of blood into him, and he still needs more blood.” That managed to drag the medic’s visor up to Kix’s. Kix made sure the Vod didn’t look away. “Something is wrong, trooper. Eventually fluids will be all the General has left if we don’t find out where it’s all going.”
The Vod stared at Kix, dumbfounded. His bucket jerked back and forth between him and the comatose General laid out between them. The next second the Vod yanked his vibroknife from his hip, and started cutting off all of the general’s clothing. Kix pulled out his own knife and set about helping.
They find nothing Kix wasn’t already aware of.
Even before they had arrived to the hanger of the Resolute, he and the still unnamed medic had restarted General Skywalker’s heart twice. Immediately after, on both occasions, he had dropped into shock. They managed to stabilize him each time, but only just.
The tingle of passing through the hanger shields washed over Kix as the pilot maneuvered the gunship to a landing. He ignored this in favor of checking his patient’s vitals again.
The General had been doing okay before, so why—
Kix glared at the man’s sleep slack face. Then his eyes slid to one of the Vod’e who had picked them up.
No. This won’t work.
Does Kix want to risk the General on something as mundane as logic? Something asked.
Kix ground his teeth together, eyes narrowing. It was probably a good thing he still had his bucket on; his vod’e didn’t need to see him like this. He looked back at his General. His eyes lingered on the sweat streaking through the dust that had gathered on his skin from their dash through the catacombs, planting the bombs that would hopefully— and had— end the battle. Stop the death, of only for today.
Kix made his call.
Kix gestured for the trooper who had helped the shinies onto the ship to get closer. “Come here, vod. What’s your CT number?” His other hand reached for a new IV line.
~~~~~
Kix had been replaying everything again and again in his head. One of the benefits of an eidetic memory. The replays would follow him to his dreams now, but he couldn’t do anything else. There was no one else to treat, and even if there were, every time Kix tried to focus his eyes back on the real world, he was seeing double. For that same reason, he also couldn’t do the small mountain of datawork that was doubtlessly piling at his desk.
Kix needed to sleep, eat, to take care of himself, but he couldn’t quite bring himself to push against the hot, prickly weight draped over his shoulders. Every time he tried to do more then think about it, it almost got heavier, near dragging him back to his hard, uncomfortable chair. Kix didn’t need much encouragement to stay put.
He was going to have to explain, in words, why he chose to give his General a blood transfusion. Why he kept giving him blood, even after he had access to all of the ringer solution one human man could hold in his body. The blood was obviously harming him, what with the one hundred and three point eight degree fever, and his resulting delirium. IV solutions don’t do that to patients. IV solutions are as neutral as anything possibly can be in the medical field.
They hadn’t been working.
So Kix went back to the thing that had been ‘sort of’ working. The blood that had been half killing him, half sustaining him, instead of the fluids that were letting him die.
Rex had given too much blood. If Kix’s calculations, done after they had gotten back on the Resolute, were correct, Rex had let Kix drain almost a liter of his blood into their dying General. It was too much. Kix himself had given about half a liter. That had been pushing it, and he wasn’t too sure how much of his current exhaustion was from the missing blood.
While the General hadn’t shown signs of improvement from all that blood, he had gotten worse when Kix had switched him over to the fluids. Almost as if he was still loosing blood, for all that the only other injuries they had been able to find was a slightly twisted knee that really only needed rest and an ice pack.
In the end, General Skywalker was given just over nine point three liters of blood from no less then nineteen Vod’e before he stabilized. Besides Rex, all gave a little under half a liter.
He had a high grade fever of one hundred and three point eight, delirium, excessive sweating, shallow breathing, and pale, clammy skin. High iron content in the blood to the point of being almost dangerous, an extremely high white blood cell count though they had no way to know if they were his cells or one of his donors’, more then a few inflamed organs, and hives. Hives anywhere bacta touched him, including the spot some bright soul had decided to test Kix’s ‘theory’. On top of it all, he was officially unconscious. The only reason none of them gave him painkillers to ease his rest is due to the promise he had extracted from Kix on his first pre-battle examination. The only reason.
By the time the small team of medics working on him had gotten him stable, Kix was numb to everything except the yawning void of fear pulling on his bones. A silence settled on them as they stood around their patient’s bed, staring.
Coric was the one to shatter it. “Well.” He peeled off the sanitary glove, and balled them up in a fist. Kix felt him turn to look at him. “There isn’t anything else we can do for him. The rest is up to him.”
Kix washed his hands on habit, then found himself sinking into a waiting chair at General Skywalker’s bedside. He’d had to feel around for the soap dispenser, and he wasn’t entirely certain how he’d found the chair after, but...it was nice, to be off his feet.
It had been...a few hours since then.
Kix had been reduced to trying to think of how he could have done more, done better. Absolutely nothing comes to mind. Considering the options he had at the time, a tiny corner of Kix’s mind was actually kind of amazed the General had survived to this point. All that meant, however, was that he would die a long, slow death from bad blood, instead of a relatively painless one from blood loss.
Kix couldn’t do more for him. It was up to Anakin Skywalker and his rather impressive will power to decide if he could overcome this. If he didn’t—well.
The 501st would be without a General once more, and Kix would be decommissioned for his failure. The Kiminoans would make sure of that. On the bright side, Kix wouldn’t have to worry about much of anything anymore, so there’s that. Another nice thing is that lethal injection is a very quick way to die. On the other hand, it meant he would be leaving his di’kut vod’e behind to look after themselves, and the most experienced medic after himself is Coric, who is only a first aid specialist.
Kix rubbed his face tiredly. The weight curled more around his shoulders, like a really half-hearted prickly hug.
The only thing Kix could do right then was wait, hope, and—maybe—pray in hopes that something greater then one exhausted medic would save his general when he cannot.
The door of the medbay opened, then closed. Quiet steps, with a deliberate toe smack with each impact, moved toward Kix’s position.
Kix could recognize those steps in any state of mind.
Jesse’s boots scuffed the durasteel flooring right in Kix’s line of sight. Kix noted with a mildly concerning level of apathy that his boots are much cleaner than Kix’s. Freshly cleaned, if his unreliable vision can be trusted on even this small thing. Kix was going to need to clean his own armor soon.
“Kix?”
Kix focused back on the world around him, unclear on when he’d zoned out. He found Jesse crouched in front of him. If Kix knew anything in that moment it was that Jesse had a worried expression on his face, even if his bucket hid it from view. Gloves hands hovered near Jesse’s chest plate, palms toward Kix like they wanted to grab hold of him.
Kix blinked at him. He should move, acknowledge that he had heard Jesse at the very least, but it didn’t seem like the message was leaving his skull much less reaching his muscles.
Jesse moved closer, but still made no move to actually touch him. Kix dropped his eyes to those hands, and waited.
“What do you need, Kix?”
Kix counted each breath in and out of his lungs. He held that question in his mind, and waited for an answer. He did not know what he needed but something in him probably did. It came.
He needed the war to end, brothers to stop dying. He needed a life long vacation someplace safe and comfortable. He needed his datawork to be done, preferably by someone else. He needed food, a shower, and a really long nap. He needed the General to be okay.
Jesse couldn’t help with most of that.
So Kix rolled his jaw until he felt it reconnect to his brain, and said what Jesse could help him with.
“Shower.” It was almost slurred beyond recognition, but it left his mouth, and that was as good as it was going to be right now. Kix let it pass. “Food.” That was clearer. He hesitated on the next bit, because he knows what he will find in his dreams, and it wasn’t going to be him saving General Skywalker’s life. Kix also knew that he would have to face the firing squad eventually. The question was whether or not he wanted to do it on his own terms with company, or when he inevitably collapsed.
Let it never be said Kix was a coward.
He sighed, and let his eyes slide closed. “Sleep.”
Jesse shuffled forward until his poleyns knocked into Kix’s greaves. “Will you accept my help with those things?” He asked softly.
Kix knew he wasn’t going to be talking for a while, so he did the easier thing and tilted his body to the side until he could free a hand to hold out in reply instead. Jesse gripped his bare hand in his own gloved one, and dragged Kix’s arm over his armored shoulders. This threw off the careful balance Kix had been keeping to avoid crashing to the floor, but Jesse was prepared for that. He shouldered Kix’s slightly bulkier mass, and hulled him up to his feet, wrapping an arm around his waist. Jesse’s spaulder dug unpleasantly into Kix’s armpit, but it was keeping him from face planting, and Kix moved the discomfort so far down his priority list it fell off the end. He let himself sag against his side. Jesse swayed to absorb his weight.
He felt Jesse’s helmet move. “Where’s your bucket?”
Kix waited for the memory of where he’d put it come to him. It did not. He conveyed this to Jesse.
Jesse just squeezed his side. “Well, you can get it in the morning, or I can. Let’s get you cleaned up.” Jesse took a step and waited patiently for Kix to remember that he was supposed to move with him before taking the next. Sometime between one step and the hallway, the hot, prickly weight around Kix’s shoulder pulled away with a squeeze.
In what felt like half a lifetime and what was probably much less then that, Jesse half directed, half carried Kix’s dead weight through the medbay doors, away from his duties, and their dying General whom he could do nothing more for.
