A Feathery Encounter (Dad Squad)
The stables were by far Rusl's favorite part of Abel's world... at least the ones that were somewhat functional. It gave him a little piece of home, though it made his heart ache because oh how Link would adore these places.
Rusl found his heart heavy once more, riddled with worry for his boy. He tried to push past it as best as possible. Link was a strong young man, and though Rusl was absolutely doing everything in his power to find him, he had to remind himself that Link was a capable fighter on his own as well.
But if those Yiga hurt a hair on his head... or pelt...
"A what?"
Rusl turned as he listened to the gossip of the few travelers in the area. Most of Abel's Hyrule was fairly desolate, but this one stable was known to be the most visited in the entire country. They'd headed here in the hopes of getting some intel since it would be a haven for people from all over Hyrule, each of whom might have some different information for them.
"I'm telling you, it's true!" the other person said to her companion. "The cucco actually spoke! The rumors were true! This was so worth the journey."
Rusl furrowed his brow. A talking cucco? What?
"I need to go talk to it too!" her companion announced excitedly. "I hear its prophecies are always true!"
A prophetic talking cucco??
Rusl watched the pair rush up a hill, tracing their path towards a large tree. A distinct clucking emitted from just in front of it, though the small crowd gathered there made the cucco impossible to see.
Well. It certainly wasn't the strangest thing that Rusl had encountered. The Ordonian headed to the other side of the stable where Abel and Fierce were quietly eating some food Rusl had forced into their hands. It was already apparent that Abel was quickly slipping into an exhausted and food-driven nap, barely able to hold himself up. Rusl really wanted to let his friend sleep, but this phenomenon required investigating. It could potentially give them a lead, assuming it was true.
"Have you heard of a clairvoyant cucco?" Rusl asked.
Abel froze mid bite and stared at him, brow furrowing in a manner that quite clearly said what the actual hell did you just say.
He supposed he hadn't heard of it, then.
"Is it your golden cucco?" Fierce questioned curiously.
Rusl laughed. "Oh, no, she isn't clairvoyant, just strong as an Ordonian goat."
Abel remained motionless as if he were still trying to process Rusl's first statement.
"The folk here are talking about it," Rusl explained before his friend's mind shorted out. "They say there's a cucco that can talk and tell prophecy. Everyone's flocking here for answers."
The joke immediately went over the deity's head, as predicted, but it at least spurred Abel to unfreeze. The former knight straightened instead, lowering his food to his bowl, though the look of utter bemusement hadn't faded.
"Perhaps it can guide us in finding the yoga performers," Fierce suggested, rising.
"They're not--never mind," Abel tried to say before sighing heavily.
Rusl was going to offer to investigate the matter himself; he simply wanted them to be informed. Nevertheless, both Fierce and Abel followed him to the hill where people had gathered. The warrior god clearly didn't understand the concept of a line and walked by everyone, and though some threw him annoyed looks, no one dared speak to the massive otherworldly man. Rusl gave an apologetic smile as he followed him, while Abel had the look of a man who would prefer the sweet embrace of death over investigating a talking cucco.
"Why don't you try to get some sleep?" Rusl offered to his friend.
"Oh no," Abel replied dully. "I have to see this."
The clucking grew ever louder until Rusl saw Fierce approach the seemingly normal-looking cucco. The bird watched him a moment before flapping its feathers excitedly.
"Thou hast come," came a strange voice from the cucco, though its beak didn't quite move in sync.
Rusl and Abel stared.
"It does talk," Rusl commented aloud in wonder. "Ha! Maybe it can help us, after all."
"This doesn't... this is..." Abel muttered, clearly trying to wrap his mind around the situation.
Rusl laughed, patting him on the back. "The world is filled with far more strange wonders than you can imagine, friend."
Fierce cocked his head to the side. "You carry a strange magic to you, feathered one."
"I am a sage of prophecy," the cucco answered. "Thou must comprehend that I can give thee what thou seekest."
This cucco kind of spoke like the light spirits. Rusl stepped forward hopefully. "Do you protect this land?"
"I do," the cucco replied.
"I'd love to see it fight a guardian," Abel grumbled.
"Thou seekest... a Hero," the cucco said slowly, immediately garnering the men's attention.
"Yes!" Rusl immediately confirmed. "Do you know where they are?"
"For thou to gain such knowledge, thou must complete trials," the cucco pronounced gravely. "Dost thou wish to continue?"
"Speak," Fierce commanded, crossing his arms.
"The first trial... is to feed all the horses in the allotted time."
The men stared. That... was a trial? What?
Rusl glanced at the stable and back at the cucco. He supposed, sage or not, the little feathered creature was just a cucco. Its priorities would likely be different than his own. Not that he didn't mind feeding horses, but... that was supposed to be a trial?
"Prepare thyself."
Rusl turned as the cucco gave them their time limit and counted down. As he quickly made his way back to the stable, he saw that Abel remained behind while Fierce accompanied the blacksmith.
"What sort of trial is this?" Fierce thought aloud. "It tests very little of our abilities."
Rusl shrugged. "I suppose its intelligence only stretches... so... far..."
Honestly, the more he thought about it, the less sense it made. The light spirits were no fools, after all. Nevertheless, they completed the trial quickly enough, though Fierce's offering to 'gather all the horses together to feed them faster' was quickly shot down as Rusl did not want to watch the strange man haul horses singlehandedly into the air to pile them together.
When the pair returned to the cucco, Abel was waiting with his arms crossed, and he cut them off.
"I know what's going on," he hissed quietly. "This is a Yiga trick."
"You think everything is a Yiga trick," Rusl pointed out. "I'll admit this is odd, but it's at least worth inspecting."
"Yoga performers do not have this magic," Fierce assured him.
"They're not--" Abel cut himself off, frustrated. "You know what, just watch."
Storming over to the cucco, Abel glared at it. "Oh great sage, I have a question for you."
The cucco clucked noncommittally.
"Do you like bananas?"
"Oh! I adore bananas!" the cucco immediately answered, its voice pitching in excitement. "They are the most blessed of all food!"
Abel looked pointedly at the pair.
"That... what?" Rusl stared at Abel, confused. Sure, a cucco liking some food he'd never heard of was different, but what in the world was Abel getting at?
"What do you mean what?!" Abel snapped, gesturing irritably at the innocent bird. "Don't you understand?!"
"We have completed the task," Fierce said instead, looking at the cucco as he gently plucked Abel out of the way, making the man hiss expletives his way and flail helplessly in the air, held in place by the back of his tunic. "Give us the information we seek."
"Oh, that's it!" Abel finally yelled, pulling out a bow and arrow.
Rusl yelled at his friend, trying to stop him from slaying a harmless cucco, but he loosed the arrow just as Fierce jerked him away. The knight really was erratic, attacking people (and now animals) at random. Thankfully, the deity's quick motion prevented the arrow from hitting its mark, but the bird jumped nonetheless.
And then vanished in a puff of smoke and red paper.
Rusl finally felt his patience growing thin. "Could you not attack everyone who isn't us?!"
"It's Yiga!" Abel snapped. "Now put me down, dammit!"
A laugh rung through the air, setting Rusl on edge, and immediately four people dressed in red--
Dressed in red. Like the attackers from before.
Fierce immediately dropped Abel as the knight drew his sword, and Rusl followed suit quickly. They dispatched the attackers swiftly, who left behind ruppees and yellow fruit in their wake.
"Those... weren't the performers from Clock Town," Fierce finally said.
"That's because they're not yoga performers." Abel said exasperatedly as he picked up the treasure. "They're Yiga traitors, and they're the ones who took my son."
"They're on to us, then," Rusl figured. Staring at the yellow fruit, he asked hesitantly, "Are those bananas?"
Abel shot him a flat look. "Yes. They are. Glad you have your priorities straight. The good thing about this is that it means we're close. They usually travel alone if they're venturing far from their base."
Fierce glanced off into the distance. "Then we should keep moving before their leaders notice their absence."
Rusl nodded in agreement, glancing a little worriedly at where the cucco had been. He had no idea how they could disguise themselves as such an animal, so he hoped they weren't actually abusing a cucco to use it as bait. When he saw no animal in sight, he figured it did indeed have to be some sort of magic disguise, and he sighed.
This place was stranger than he thought. Perhaps Abel's paranoia was... somewhat warranted. But at least now they had a lead.
I'm coming, Link.

Friends to Lovers Tournament: Round 2, Side B, Match 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
propaganda under the cut!
Chrobin:
Imagine finding a stranger on the ground, picking them up, and saying ‘you are one of us now!’ That’s Chrobin for you! Chrom quite literally found Robin laying in a field unconscious and decided to bring them along on his little routine mission but one thing leads to another and Chrom is never without Robin. The two fight off medieval zombies, travel the continent, suffer and heal together as their story goes on. The core of Robin and Chrom’s relationship is their friendship but the game gives you the option to have them get married and wow, Chrobin real!!! I could ramble about their tragedy or their silliness but it all leads back to their friendship and how they stick together no matter what life and death throws at them. In a later game in the series their souls are imprinted together in an ancient weapon. What’s more romantic than being a powerful magical bracelet together?
KidKiller:
Submission 1: Listen, I know their romantic relationship is not technically canon, but they obviously care so deeply for each other! They would they would kill for each other and they would die for each other. Killer didn’t hesitate to eat that SMILE for a chance to save Kid, and Kid was obviously heart broken when he noticed what had happened to his partner, so much that he gave up his just refound freedom for it. They are PARTNERS (canon) and you know how they mean that. They’ve been best friends for ages, their relationship just couldn’t help but bloom into something more.
Submission 2: They’re best friends, they grew up together, they’re in love. They need each other more than anyone else, would do anything or fight anyone to keep the other by their side.
Submission 3: They aren’t lovey doves, but the loyalty! Kid and Killer were children they had a friend named Victoria who they both had a crush on, but years later they both became gang leaders and Victoria got killed by the most powerful gang in their country. In revenge, Kid joined together all the gangs and took down those that killed Victoria, and later formed a pirate crew with all the former gang leaders, with Killer as his right hand man.
I love the LOYALTY these two have, because Kid is always like “Imma do something so stupid!” and Killer is like “You shouldn’t do it, but go ahead none the less, I’ll be right next to you”.
2 more reasons why I love them, but they are a spoiler just so you know.
That time Killer ate a fruit the permanently deformed his face into a smile and made him able to express his emotions only through laughter in order to protect Kid, Kid got furious because he knows Killer has always been insecure about his laugh and smile.
Killer taking a hit that could’ve killed Kid, keeping them both alive but badly hurt.
Submission 4: They’ve been friends since childhood. Kid’s been through some tough things throughout the show (eg. losing an arm) but the only time we see him cry is when Killer has been tortured and experimented on. Killer goes a bit mad from said experience but only begins to calm down when he’s reunited with Kid. They call each other ‘partner’ or ‘my partner’. I can list more but think I’ve made my point 😆"

Job Transitions: Rogue -> Ninja
A friend of mine in game asked an interesting question some time ago about whether or not I follow game canon for the transition from Aeryn's starter classes into her specialized roles, and that's been really fun to ponder!
I'll split this up into a few posts, because it's liable to become quite long. For starters: rogue and ninja!
(Very minor class quest-related ARR spoilers behind the cut!)
N I N J A
For the rogue/ninja quests, the story of the class is canon for Aeryn - but the class itself is not! I adore the rogue questline and its characters with the entirety of my heart, and early rogue is probably my very favorite class to play. I was sad it ultimately branched into ninja, because although I find the characters for that story equally compelling, I find the class and its mechanics far less so. It looks really cool, don't get me wrong! But something about the flavor of rogue just appealed to me more, and I didn't want to skew away from that aesthetic, regardless of how much I enjoy the ninja lore and characters!
As I was already committed at that point to Aeryn being an archer main with lancer on the side, it didn't seem terribly realistic that she would also somehow become a ninja. So I ultimately decided on a path of adopting the rogue/ninja story for her lore without canonizing anything else.
The way I play it, Aeryn got on the radar of the Dutiful Sisters and was approached by Jacke, perhaps after he'd heard about her from various informants across Limsa. After assisting Jacke and his crew on a mission and getting caught up in their competition with Milala, they forged a bond of friendship and mutual understanding, such that the Sisters felt comfortable calling on Aeryn now and then for aid, trusting in her skill and discretion. Some of them (V'kebbe and Underfoot included) taught her to wield a set of daggers as well as how to maneuver in the shadows, but only as a backup means of defending herself in situations when carrying her bow or lance would be too conspicuous. In this way, the rogue story happens more or less canonically, just with Aeryn along for the ride in more of a sniper capacity as archer. She grows to love her silly little rogue family without necessarily becoming one of them.
Likewise, Aeryn does not truly become a shinobi. She does get some twinge of feeling from the soulstone she returns to Oboro; and I believe Oboro likewise has some glimmer of insight from the stone as it passes from her to him, such that he suspects she might join them. But in spite of his optimistic attempts to invite her into the fold, it seems Aeryn is incapable of learning the mudra. Try though she might, the mystical natural magics of ninjutsu simply will not resonate with her. (I feel she would be blocked from this in the same way she is blocked from most magic in Eorzea.) However, she picks up rather quickly on the physical techniques that Oboro and Tsubame teach her, expanding on the skillset taught by Jacke and his crew. And like with the Dutiful Sisters, her bond with the shinobi becomes one of friendship. She is invested in their mission - and forcefully involved due to Karasu's interest in her as Oboro's little "horsebird chick." Whether at Karasu's meddling or at the request of Oboro or Tsubame, Aeryn joins them on their missions as bard, and thus the storyline progresses much as normal - with just a dash of added sneak-sneak.
So Aeryn does technically progress from rogue to ninja as outlined in canon, but without ever actually picking up the class. She participates in the story and adopts extra skills but remains bard/lancer. As a result, Aeryn learns to move more gracefully/quietly as well as to work with her surroundings to mask her presence in a way she never quite learned from Ywain, Luciane, or any of her other mentors. She already knew quite a bit about close-combat, particularly hand-to-hand, from Ywain; but the shinobi and the Sisters helped her learn how to fight with small weapons when needed, including the best ways to incapacitate someone in those circumstances (both fatally and otherwise). She canonically starts carrying daggers at all times for situations when it might be more cumbersome to have her bow or spear along, such as when crafting or gathering. And she is considered an honorary member of the Dutiful Sisters and a friend to the shinobi, to the degree that she is often involved in their adventures. But that's the extent to which the rogue/ninja class is "canon" for her.
That's all for ninja! More class lore to come!

twins have always been viewed as a bad omen for the parents - there are high chances of both twins developing no Cursed Technique at all, or have a Cursed Technique that is not desirable. So there had been no hope when one of the wives from the main family of the gojo clan was pregnant, and from what they can tell with twins at that
so it was a huge surprise to not only the elders but the entire jujutsu world when not one, but both of the twins were born with the coveted Six Eyes - something that had never happened in the history of the gojo clan. it was a moment to be celebrated!
if only they knew just what was lies ahead
much to the delight of the elders, the older one of the twins was the boy, satoru, while the girl was born 20 minutes after - it wouldn’t have mattered if it was the other way around, but just having the young boy being the one born first was definitely the icing on the cake
both of you were an absolute headache to deal with, causing so much chaos and mayhem that the elders had wondered if they should have celebrated at the idea of having two Six Eyes users under the same house was a good thing
the both of you trained together throughout your younger years, with satoru becoming super overprotective even though you were twins - he understood from a young age that the both of you were starting at different levels of footing because of your gender
yes, you are a girl - but at 7 years old you had exorcise a Grade-Two Curse by yourself with no more than an annoyed click of your tongue and a snap of your fingers, walking away whilst whining about how it got your favourite dress dirty
with that being said though, he loves to tease you are still the younger one between the both of you, and had teased you about how you should refer to him as ‘onii-chan’ instead of his first name
“come on, Y/N~ it’s a sign of respect~”
“i am going to spend you to outer space one of these days.”
the two of you were already known about the jujutsu world way before you even became old enough to enroll in Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College - you two were even allowed to enter without an interview with the then principal of the school
who would want to waste their time interviewing two highly over qualified teenagers anyway?
the first time you met geto and shoko, they were both intimidated by your sheer presence. the both of them have heard talks about the gojo twins entering their year as a pair
so when they had first met you, standing there in your uniform with your bright blue eyes hiding behind a pair of blacked out sunglasses and an indifferent look on your face - they definitely felt a shiver go through their bodies
however, when they saw your twin brother appearing behind you with the biggest grin, hugging you from behind whilst you scowled and tried to push his head away - they were definitely less intimidated now
“now, now, Y/N-chan, stop being so scary~”
“nii-chan, i am giving you three seconds to let go of me.”
the two of you quite the duo, especially when you two are always pinned against one another with more difficult and more challenging missions compared to when you were under the care of the gojo clan
geto felt less pressure to match up to his friend, since satoru and Y/N are always at each other’s throat - wanting to outmatch the other and one up the other with silly things like Curse head counts and how difficult its level is
with that being said, satoru is very protective of you - if any so much as speaks poorly of you, he would not hesitate to put them in their place
“oya? what makes you think you can speak of my baby sister like that?” satoru had hummed towards the small group of men, who were commenting on how beautiful the young woman was followed by a lot of unsavoury comments.
satoru still sported his casual smile, yet there was a certain air around him that made them shut their mouths up real fast. “mind repeating that? just want to make sure that i have a good enough reason to put your lazy asses six feet underground..”
after that specific incident by the way, satoru had you and your friends out on a little excursion around tokyo - where they just did a bunch of stupid things together to calm down
you can read him like the back of a book though, so when both of your friends went away to browse through some shelves in a video game store, you just wrapped your arms around your brother with a smile. “you know, nii-chan, you don’t need to go about protect my honour. i’m a big girl now.”
he’d just blink down at you before giving you a soft but genuine smile, petting the top of your head with one of his hand while the other was resting inside of his pocket. “if i don’t protect you, who am i going to protect?”
that statement was proven during your second year - a cursed user had overpowered you and shoko and had taken the both of you hostage. the curse user had practically beaten you into a pulp, knowing that you were the stronger one between the two
shoko had been tied up and beaten as well, but you were definitely taking the brunt of his anger - along with being forced to listen about how he was going to sell you to some low life family that had been trying to get you to marry their sorry excuse of a son.
you don’t even remember meeting the father of the boy, who had claimed to visit the gojo clan home a few times now
“you gonna be a good girl for me?” the man had gripped as he gripped your hair in his hands, giving you a smirk whilst you scowled over at him in annoyance, blinking the blood out of your eyes from the wound on the top of your head.
before you can give another snarky answer in reply that will get you another beating, the sound of someone kicking the door in. before either one of you can move, the man suddenly let go of your hair with a pained gasp as someone grabbed his hair and forced his head back, looking up into a pair of glowing blue eyes
“get your filthy hands off my baby sister.”
geto was in charge of taking care of the both of you, leaving the room with a simple reminder to satoru that they needed to bring the man back alive
both of you spending most of your time trying to unlock the many secrets of the Limitless, and how to control it better
during the entire star plasma vessel fiasco, you had stayed by geto’s side. and while you didn’t manage to save rika from being murdered, you had, like gojo, managed to touch the core of cursed energy
toji had ‘killed you’ before he went after geto, yet like satoru, he did not decapitate your head; so you had slowly started to use the reverse curse technique to heal your wounds
so you couldn’t believe satoru’s belief when he found you using reverse cursed technique to heal geto, wrapping you up in his arms while you just smile and hold him as well
the three of you plus shoko had turned to one another for comfort, because along the way you four have grown close to the young girl, and her death really affected all of you
but if there is something bright that came out from this, is that you and your brother had really elevated yourselves to become the strongest duo of the new generation - both pretty much an entire chest above the current active sorcerers
after satoru had calmed down, he had told you about what toji had said to him before his death - about how he has a son that he had planned to sell of to the zen’ins
the two of you went to visit the young boy, discovering that he had an older sister as well; and without hesitation you had taken the both of them under your wing, pulling a few strings behind the scenes while also trying to provide him with as normal as a life as you two could
megumi had viewed you as a mother figure, someone who looked out for him and tsumiki, teaching the two of them life skills like sewing and cooking, making sure they always have warm meals.
you never miss their birthdays either - always making sure to get them either a cake or a small cupcake with a candle on the top to blow out just for the sake of tradition
sure, satoru loves to spoil them too, but he acted more like their chilled older brother - he definitely relies on you more as a parental figure he had lacked for quite a huge part of his childhood
he had remembered how once, when you had made him his favourite curry and rice after a long week, he just sighed and said, “thanks mum,” before he started to eat his meal
at first you froze in shock, and  megumi did too - but before the blushing teen can apologise, you had already wrapped him up in your arms as you just cried your heart out
satoru had teasingly asked him if megumi can call him ‘dad’, to which megumi just scowled and sent his divine dogs after your brother
satoru loves to introduce you two as the ‘strongest duo’ by the way - which makes you super awkward and you hate it with a passion. he wasn’t wrong, but it’s still awkward
“we’re the Gojos - the strongest duo out there.”
“please stop calling us that.”
feel like because you’re there, geto might still be on the path to the light lmao - like mans will be a teacher in school and you three will be dub the ‘idiot trinity’ or some bullshit nickname lol - the three biggest troublemakers in the jujutsu world
yet the three most capable ones as well - absolutely drive the higher ups of the jujutsu world insane
with that being said though - the three of you definitely hashed a plan to change the jujutsu world together. even shoko agrees that there should be some change to the old ways of the jujutsu world; so the four of you decided to sign up to work as teachers at Jujutsu High
the first group of students you took under your wing was the then first years - maki, toge, panda, and eventually yuta when he joined your little class
you are the mother for the students while geto is the responsible dad; satoru is the crazy uncle that is not allowed to supervise the students alone, and shoko is the cool aunt who lets you skip class in her office if you want
all the students have, at one point, just referred to you as ‘mum’ and you had always just accepted that with a soft smile and a pat on the top of their head
even if they are taller than you, they will willingly bend down to your height so you can pet them on the head - even megumi lets you get away with it
when itadori and nobara came into the picture, you had taken them un as your own as well - but you did spend a good 5 minutes laughing with geto at the idea that yuji manages to control sukuna like he is just an annoying imaginary friend in the back of his head that refuses to shut up
you had tried to give them some form of normality and comforts as teenagers, even if many times they were forced into very uncomfortable situations
all in all - it was utter chaos the moment both you and satoru were born. yet it was a miracle nonetheless. many times you prove to the world that your bond is stronger than people think it is, and that you two will go through anything to make sure the other is safe.
you are the younger one, but the more responsible one too. the motherly figure that everyone turned to, even your friends and brother, who needs comfort and a warm meal. yet if provoked, you can become deadly and kill with no hesitation. it’s because of this, both you and your brother are considered as quite the deadly duo; the strongest ones around.

Tenet-No Spoilers
I am a massive Christopher Nolan fan. I’m a fanboy, I’ll admit. Nolan, for me, is the goat. I don’t think there’s a director out there today that can create movies like he does, the way he does it. The mix of pure spectacle, blockbuster action using real effects, combined with interesting characters and personal, real stories is something that is rarely achieved in the film industry today.
Tumblr media
John David Washington is The Protagonist, who after a mission goes wrong is recruited by a secret organisation, Tenet, to prevent the end of the world. He learns that there is a technology in the future that allows objects to be reversed through time and that people are buying these and selling them on the black market. Objects such as inverted bullets that cause much more damage than regular ones.
Tumblr media
There has been criticism of Tenet that it is too complicated and confusing. And yes, this is definitely the most complex Nolan film to date. The inverted/reverse time business is quite bizarre and takes a while to get your head round but towards the end it certainly becomes a little easier to understand. The plot itself however is more complicated. All Nolan films are complex and there are always clues throughout that you won’t notice on the first watch that you will on the second. But the plots aren’t as difficult to understand than Tenet. With Tenet, I think the second watch will be to understand what you didn’t from the first one, and then on the third viewing it will click. Maybe, maybe some people got it straightaway, maybe some people won’t get it on the third. I think the film, and this isn’t just a criticism of Tenet, but of most films, is that the dialogue at times was difficult to understand. It’s hard to get your head round this in the first place, never mind when you can’t make out what they are saying. During the more exposition scenes it was hard to make out what was going on, and Tenet needed these scenes to be clear in order for the viewers to maybe get a better understanding of the plot. My biggest criticism of Tenet however is that it lacks the human side of his films, especially in comparison to his other films. Not that I went in over-hyped because I never think that is a good idea. And maybe the film was his homage to the spy genre where it wasn’t intending us to care as much about the characters. But in all his films, and however epic the scenes we always care about the character, that I feel is the main part of the film, it is what we are drawn to. Whether that be magicians in the Victorian era, a caped crusader, three layers deep in a dream or floating through space; it is the human element that always keeps the film grounded. I felt that Tenet didn’t strike that balance. And that’s not to say that John David Washington wasn’t good, because he was fantastic, but I didn’t necessarily care about his character because he didn’t have anything personal for us to relate to. In Inception and Interstellar, the two main characters are fighting to see their children again. It’s personal, it shows the human side. Washington’s character didn’t have that, it was him saving the world, and yes that’s brave and courageous, but why, why did he care? What was HE fighting for? And that was what disappointed me the most about Tenet because that side of Nolan is I think the most under appreciated. I LOVE the set pieces, the action, the mind-boggling plot, but the human side is what brings it all home. I was blown away during Interstellar with the visual side of it, the black hole, the waves, all of that. But it is when Matthew McConaughey’s character breaks down seeing his grown up daughter via a TV or reuniting with her at the end of the movie that overshadows everything else. Tenet didn’t have these personal moments and that was a real shame.
No doubt about it, Tenet is the biggest Nolan film to date. It is honestly huge. No matter how confused you may, or may not get, you won’t be bored. It’s a lot of fun. In most action films you’d expect to see maybe 2 or 3 small action sequences followed by the big kick ass action sequence at the end. Tenet has 4 or 5 big kick ass action sequences. The opening of previous Nolan films, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises really set the standard for opening sequences in action movies, Tenet follows suit and kicks off from there without skipping a beat. A lot of the scenes involve the inverted time structure, where the object is going backwards in time (I think that’s how it works), it’s incredible to watch.

It’s absolute madness. I don’t think I’ve seen something like it before. If I have, not to this extent. It’s barmy, but it is fantastic. Technically it’s a delight. The whole plane scene has been talked about, how Nolan bought a real plane to crash instead of just using visual effects. That’s the standard that action films should be aiming for. Yes, visual effects are a work of art, there is no denying it and I certainly won’t be shitting on it that some people do. I am incredibly envious of the skill. But there is something magical about watching real effects, and it’s become part of Nolan’s signature.
Tumblr media
Away from the jaw-dropping action scenes and the incredible technical ability on show the acting is fantastic. John David Washington is superb in this and should hopefully cement his name as an A-list. His character has it all, cool, scary, witty, he captures all of this. And it isn’t just his acting that is top notch but it is a very physically demanding role which as you might expect from a former American Football player, you might expect. I don’t think there are many actors who could have struck the balance quite like JDW did. Sure, an actor like Daniel Day-Lewis could do the acting, but he couldn’t do the physical side. Dwayne Johnson could do the physical side, but he can’t act. Washington achieves both terrifically. There is a huge, and brilliant supporting cast in Tenet, most notably Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki and Kenneth Branagh who each bring something different and exciting. Nolan comes under criticism for portrayals of women in his films which is something I don’t necessarily agree with but in this Debicki’s character is the one who we probably care about the most and it is her character that brings the humanity to the story.
4/5 Now I’ve had a day to digest it, and now I have written this review, I’m really excited to watch it again. If it wasn’t for COVID I would probably watch it about 4 times. Maybe on subsequent showings I could give it slightly lower (although I’ve tried to be impartial) maybe I’ll think it is better once I understand it more. Yes it is a shame that the human side of the film is lacking slightly, but the technical ability on showing will blow you away. No matter how confused you are, you won’t be bored.
p.s There has been criticisms from some corners of the film industry saying that Nolan, and the studios, are irresponsible for releasing Tenet as the film to bring cinema-goers back, especially when the film is complex. Why would the audience want to watch a film they can’t understand? Now I have an issue with this. Critics slam the Fast and Furious franchise because it is over the top, silly, action fuelled, spectacle garbage. Critics will also jizz over films such as Midsommar, The Shining, The Lighthouse for their complex and interesting storylines. Now I love these films, but what exactly are those films about, and would you know directly coming out of the cinema. Would the link between Greek Mythology, Prometheus and giving knowledge to civilisation be known to you when you came out of The Lighthouse? Probably not. Isn’t there like a whole documentary on The Shining because there are so many fan theories? That film is weird af. I’ve always found an issue of classism within the film industry, especially when reviewing certain films. Action films are seen as dumb, lowest common denominator garbage, and yet odd artsy stuff is seen as the pinnacle of film. Nolan somehow manages to get these both together and yet now they criticism him when this complex stuff is the shit they love. Now critics want a film like Fast and Furious to bring people back, but you know they’d shit on it at any other point. Maybe Nolan can do no right, people have called his films obnoxious because they are too smart. Well maybe these people mistake the intelligence of the general viewer? Who knows, I’m just mad the Nolan hasn’t won a Best Director award, or hasn’t even got a knighthood when people like Ed Sheeran or Phillip Green have?

Thoughts on Higurashi Gou Ep17
Haha yeah at this point I give up on thinking this is newcomer-friendly, lmao.
Anyway, thoughts under the cut [plus Umineko spoilers]
Well this sure was an episode, lol.
At this point I think that regardless of how the rest of the show goes, it kinda just definitively doesn’t work properly as something for new fans to enjoy. It’s not like it wouldn’t make any sense, but it’s just a straight up inferior experience to watching this as a sequel after the VN. Even with the fast-paced montage of Matsuribayashi plot points, new fans still don’t even know stuff like what Takano’s whole backstory is, what her motives where, and what her actual plan even WAS in the first place beyond just ‘she’s gonna kill everyone somehow for some reason’. And I doubt that we’re going to get much time spent at all on Rena and her backstory to explain what she was doing in Onidamashi.
I think Gou works fine as a sequel to the VN, but as a starting point for new fans it just throws enough spoilers at you to ruin the experience of reading the VN afterward, without enough time spent on those plot points and characters to make it worth it. Though I also have to wonder now if it was even worth spending 13 episodes going over mostly the same events as the original question arcs if immediately afterward they were going to drop all pretenses of this being a remake.
I’m pretty negative about this whole aspect of the show, but I still think that the sequel aspect of it is good and interesting. Even if a lot of that is just me being desperate for any amount of indirect Umineko content, lol.
This episode might have spelled out that Satoko is the second looper on the gameboard, but it seems pretty obvious that there’s a higher power influencing her and giving her the power to loop in the first place. I’m still suspicious of Hanyuu/Featherine, but this episode made me think it’s much more likely that it might actually be Lambda.
I wasn’t really sure about it earlier since it felt like wishful thinking, but the whole beginning scene where Takano apologizes to Rika and says that she wouldn’t believe her even if she explained why she suddenly changed her mind about her mission seems to indicate that Lambda has basically abandoned Takano and revoked her blessing of certainty, and she seems to remember the events of Matsuribayashi anyway, so she’s basically just accepted her defeat. I don’t think it’s as simple as that, though, because of what Takano said about Rika not believing why she changed her mind, so I think it also involves her connection to Lambda.
It might actually be a lot like how Lambda acted in Umineko, where she took over the game master position for a while after Beatrice abandoned the game. This might be Lambda taking over the Higurashi game board because Hanyuu abandoned it, and she’s decided to make Satoko her new piece.
We’ve already seen Satoko talk about how Oyashiro contacted her and made her into his new priestess because of Rika’s sins, so I think Lambda probably just posed as Oyashiro to convince Satoko to become her piece.
It’d also help explain how weird a lot of Gou’s game board feels, and how silly the whole concept of Satoko being a criminal mastermind is, if this is the Higurashi version of Umineko Ep5, where Lambda created a ‘game without love’ where she didn’t technically contradict anything about the story or the characters, but pushed the limits of how out of character she could make them act.
I’ve already felt for a while that Nekodamashi in particular feels more like a case of the culprit just trying to unfairly torture Rika instead of trying to present her with a fairy mystery to solve, and that’d definitely fit with the idea of Lambda just wanting to mess with Rika and manipulating the pieces and the game board to do so.
It kinda risks entering the catch-22 territory of something being ‘intentionally badly written’, in a sense, if the whole point is that the real mastermind is just being sadistic and not trying to establish a fair mystery, but it’s at least something that’s been established before in the overall franchise. I dunno how well it works to have that be the premise of an entire season, though, compared to how only one episode of Umineko worked this way, and it was already established there that Lambda was the new game master at the very start of the episode, so there weren’t any surprises or secrets there.
Either way this could basically just be the hand wave-y explanation for any questions of how Satoko apparently managed to obtain the syringe in each arc and inject all these random people successfully in each arc. And also why it doesn’t even seem to make sense from Satoko’s POV for her to act in such a roundabout and risky way.
Honestly, it kinda reminds me of the whole mentality some people have where they wonder why Rika doesn’t just use her supernatural knowledge of everything going on to perfectly game the system and manipulate everyone. The whole point there is that she’s just a little girl who’s only physically capable of doing so much without outside help, but Lambda might be straight up giving Satoko the unnatural ability to actually do all of this stuff even as a random little girl. Which, again, feels kinda iffy as a writing choice, but it’d also fit with a lot of the commentary Ryukishi likes to do about this type of stuff.
One thing I’m curious about is if the next arc will start off with a new loop, or if this one will keep going. Usually we don’t have loops carry over between arcs, and with how this episode ended we might just find out that Satoko immediately shot Rika, but considering how Rika obviously planned this whole scene to happen, I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s able to stop Satoko from shooting her.
I didn’t think this up, but I’ve seen other people theorize that part of the ‘birthday party preparation’ involved Rika explaining everything to her friends off-screen and getting them to help her deal with the whole Satoko confrontation, which I think would make a lot of sense, and it’d make it a lot more likely that the next arc will start with Satoko getting stopped before she can kill Rika. Although if the next arc starts that way, and everyone’s already aware of what’s going on with Rika and Satoko, and we’ve already gone through all the stuff with Takano giving up her plans and leaving the village, I have to wonder what they’d even spend seven whole episodes doing, lol. All the stuff with Takano and the clinic in this episode also makes it feel like this will be the ‘final loop’, since it’d feel a bit weird to have to go over it all again later on, but we’ll see.
I’ve also seen people point out that Satoko’s gun at the end seems to be the same type as Mion’s toy gun, so instead of her getting physically overpowered, we might find out that Rika got Mion to swap her gun with Satoko’s. I dunno exactly how Rika would have known about Satoko having a gun, or how she’d be able to make the swap happen without Satoko realizing it, but I could see it playing out that way.
Anyway, this really feels like it’s shaping up to be a Bern vs Lambda game, where Lambda’s whole goal is just to keep Rika stuck in this loop as long as possible no matter what. And I still feel like if they’re gonna go this hard into the Umineko connections, they should really just go the whole nine yards and have this lead into a proper Umineko anime remake. Otherwise it’d feel like a wasted opportunity where Higurashi fans get disappointed that their series got ‘tainted’ by Umineko-related story baggage, while Umineko fans are disappointed because it’s not the sort of content we’ve been hoping for, and it’s not as substantial as a full remake would be.
It doesn’t help that Okonogi and Amakusa both show up in this episode, lol. I know they both show up in Higurashi, but still. At this point it’d just feel cruel if all this teasing doesn’t actually lead to anything noteworthy.
Also, even in spite of how much this episode explained about the whole mystery, I feel even more confused about what the whole final arc could possibly be about at this point, especially if I’m right about this loop continuing for maybe the entire rest of the next arc. It kinda feels like we’re already at the endgame where both sides have revealed their intentions to each other, and we more or less know exactly what the mechanics of everything going on behind the scenes are. It feels like there isn’t really any mystery left to unravel, aside from maybe the specifics of what happened to Satoko after Matsuribayashi that clearly lead to her getting influenced into doing all this. But we still have seven whole episodes left to go, so clearly there’s a lot left to happen.
Ideally they’re going to find time to actually go over stuff like Rena and Shion’s backstories, and the exact details of what happened in the previous years of the curse killings, and Takano’s whole backstory and what her big evil plan actually was in the first place, so those things don’t just end up left in the VN for new fans to not find out about, but I dunno. Ironically, I don’t think there’s *enough* episodes left to properly go into all that, unless it’s as fast-paced as how this episode went through a bullet point list of details from Matsuribayashi.
There’s still the question of if we might get a second season, but I doubt it. Maybe it could be a one-cour second season, but it already feels like we’re at the end of the story. We’re basically at the equivalent of the end of Minagoroshi, and there was only one more arc after that in the VN. But if we’re making comparisons to the VN, then we’ve still basically skipped over Tsumihoroboshi and Meakashi, lol.
Also, before I forget, it still genuinely bugs me that even though Rika apparently remembered Takano being evil this whole time, and clearly still thought she was evil this whole time, she’s apparently done absolutely nothing to try and investigate or stop her in any of these timelines, and she spent all of Nekodamashi being like ‘wow, I can’t believe people are going unnaturally L5 and killing me while taking about parasites . . . . who could possibly be behind this . . . . . .. .  oh well guess I’ll just die lol’. I don’t want to call it a plot hole, but it just feels like genuinely bad writing caused by the unnecessary conflict of Gou trying to appeal to new fans while also being a sequel. But in the end they ended up giving a sparknotes version of Matsuribayashi that spoils Takano being evil anyway, so it feels kinda pointless that they sidestepped the issue so hard up to this point, at the cost of having Rika basically act like an idiot who doesn’t bother acting upon any of the knowledge she has.
Anyway, if we don’t get a full Umineko remake out of this in the end, they should at least just have the next arc turn into full on Umineko shenanigans with logic battles and witches with laser swords and shit.
I might sound like I’m just really negative toward Higurashi in general compared to Umineko, but even though I prefer Umineko, I really like Higurashi, and that’s a big part of why it bugs me so much that they didn’t just commit to this being a proper remake. An actual remake of the VN that has more concise pacing and works better as an anime would be genuinely great in it’s own way, but that’s not what we’ve ended up getting, lol.

Companion Interview Meme
Tagged by: @a-muirehen — thank you for the tag!
Pick three companions who know your OC/muse well. Answer the questions from at least one of their companions points of view. Replace anywhere it says ‘Grey’ with your OC’s name. Name the three companions who will be answering here: 1. Theron Shan 2. Lana Beniko 3. Kira Carsen Are they ready to be candid with their responses? Don’t worry, this is totally private. Grey will never read it.
(Slight spoiler warning in one answer for Echoes of Oblivion)
1. First Impressions. What was the first impression you had of Grey?
Theron: Look, it’s complicated. Like on one hand, she just had to be hiding something, because she was just so—so—no one is that nice! Or naive. It had to be an act somehow. I was convinced of it, there had to be something wrong with her, some deep, dark dirty secret she was hiding. Because if she wasn’t then that means she was a genuinely good person who actually cared deeply about random strangers and that was just weird. And kind of wonderful. And in retrospect when I look back maybe I just... needed a few reasons to keep people at arms distance. I once told her that I loved her from the moment I saw her. Striding into the situation room like she owned the place and... yeah. That was also true. As I said, it’s complicated. And I’m kind of an idiot.
Lana: I was quite impressed by what I had assumed at the time was a great deal of pragmatism. She was a Jedi, and yet didn’t seem bothered at all by the fact that I was a Sith. In fact, sometimes I think maybe she was... fascinated by it? There was a moment or two where I wondered if... well, I suppose it doesn’t matter now. She has always been a force to be reckoned with. It’s easy to follow someone like that... even if they are a Jedi (and a very impractical one at that. I really should have seen that coming in retrospect.)
Kira: She didn’t know how to take a joke. I mean, I’ve gotten better over the years, but at the start I’d had a tendency to make jokes first, assess the situation later. I’d made some comment about taking no prisoners, and you would have thought I’d just kicked a puppy instead of making a joke. Kind of felt like I had from the look on her face. Luckily, I think we both made better second impressions when we started working together on Coruscant.
2. Grey walks into a bar. No, it’s not a joke - what does she order? If you give her a credit for the jukebox, what kind of music would she put on?
Theron: Something fruity and filled with rum if you don’t stop her. Don’t let her drink the rum. And then because she has no loyalty whatsoever she’ll put on Tai-Vor Swivt on the jukebox and just share my special playlist with the whole cantina. Um. I mean. Her playlist. I don’t like Tai-Vor. I only listen to Heavy Isotope. And things like that.
Lana: The answer depends on the time of day, her mood, and several other factors. I have it all documented in this rubric here. You’ll need to give me more specifics on your inquiry if you want an accurate answer.
Kira: I mean, usually she just orders caf, which almost always gets a dramatic eyeroll from the bartender. So I usually have to order so we don’t get the stinkeye the entire time. And usually she lets me pick the music too -- I kind of suspect she didn’t really know many of the artists. Not exactly dialed into pop culture, that one.
3. How does Grey spend a day off from work?
Theron: Hmm, if I have my way it’s a nice slow morning and any message sent to her e-mail receives a cordial out-of-office message (Lana gets two for each message she sends.) Maybe later we can take a walk in the woods, go pet those stinky Exoboars running wild and ruining the Odessen countryside, maybe we get a little lost along the way. Spend the evening winding down with one of her swashbuckling holoflix. If I don’t have my way someone winds up asking her a work question and then she doesn’t get a day off. Yes. I know the irony of this coming from me.
Lana: If she is onsite at Odessen nowadays she seems to spend it in a mix between time in her quarters, leaving the base to take a walk in the woods, trying to duck surveillance to meditate in her “secret” spot.
Kira: Back on the Defender, it was just a lot of meditating, practicing her katas, sparring. Honestly, even on her days off she usually just kept trying to make sure we were prepared for the next mission. Although if I invited her to do something normal she’d go along with it. So I may have made sure some of our off days coincided so she would actually take something resembling a break. The weirdo. She seems to have relaxed a little from that here on Odessen. I think that’s nice.
4. What silly superstitions or funny traditions does she observe?
Theron: She meditates each morning, and still observes the Jedi morning fast. Except she totally cheats on her fast and will drink a cup of caf if its hand delivered to her. She’ll warm her hands on the mug as she takes in a big whiff, and this little smile spreads across her face. It causes the freckles on her nose to wrinkle. And maybe I’m the one who hand delivers the caf because its hard to think of a better way to start the day.
Lana: We do not speak of the fruitcake, or any of her other attempted holiday traditions. If we do not encourage her, then maybe she’ll stop. Please, we must all band together, for the good of my digestive tract.
Kira: Whenever we would finish up a mission on a planet, she liked to take off her socks and boots and meditate with her feet sticking into the ground. She even wanted to do it on Quesh but Doc was loud enough on that instance to be able to talk her out of it. She tried to hide it but she looked really disappointed, so I tried to cheer her up by joining her on this weird mud hop at our next port of call. Not sure if I really felt any different but it seemed to make her happy.
5. What does Grey wear to bed? And just how do you know that?
Theron: Traditional night wear is a thin tank top and sleep pants. Let’s just say sometimes there’s less traditional night wear, or sometimes less than that -- but that’s between husband and wife.
Lana: On mission she typically wears something quick to change into her armor. On base she seems to have a standard set of pajama bottoms and sleeveless sleep shirt. How do I know this? Let’s just say I have to keep the Commander on schedule, even when certain people who should know better try and distract her from our very busy day running things.
Kira: She usually was changed and ready for the day before I ever saw her, but sometimes there’d be a late night where she couldn’t sleep, and I’d find her in the Defender’s mess. Pretty simple and spare sleepwear, sleep pants and tank top. Fashion’s not exactly her priority, you know?
6. Your favorite memory of Grey?
Theron: Why do you make me pick? Damn... that’s hard. There’s almost too many to choose, but... I guess it would be just after we got back from Nathema, and I was trying to apologize for everything and... somehow that turned into a proposal. And despite me being a stumbling awkward mess she still said yes and... look. I probably should have picked a different one, I’m not really good at the talking about feelings thing.
Lana: That moment when the broadcast across the galaxy happened after she had tamed the Eternal Fleet, she stood poised and powerful, finally setting the galaxy aright after Zakuul had torn it asunder. It was a moment more than five years in the making and I couldn’t have been prouder.
Kira: That moment when we stood, side-by-side, with everyone else in the Force and turned that creep Tenebrae, and every other of his counterparts into absolute crumbling dust. It almost made up for the fact that I wasn’t there the first two times she sent him packing.
7. A time you very nearly almost kissed Grey?
Theron: I mean, if we’re being technical, I had... thought about it for one moment on Manaan. Just a brief second, as we were saying our farewells before I went into hiding. Our eyes had met while we were shaking hands goodbye and it would have been so easy to just pull her in close and--I didn’t. Of course I didn’t. Not then at least. Now though? I don’t miss a chance.
Lana: I was angry at myself, my weakness, and taking it out on the clutter around the Gravestone. I had been surrounded out in the swamp, and only Koth’s timely intervention had saved me. She had come seeking me out to make sure that I was all right, to check on my injury. And in the low light, she just looked so concerned and guilty, and I’m fairly certain she was leaning in. I would have, you know, if Koth hadn’t been throwing around things and making a racket.
Kira: It was right after my Knighting, and I had snuck a bottle of champagne on board to celebrate. I suspect she hadn’t ever actually tasted alcohol before, judging by her reaction to the first sip. But we kept drinking, and giggling, kind of like we weren’t stuffy Jedi at all. And there was this moment where she asked me about Nar Shaddaa. Not pushy or anything, just... curious about my experiences. She never talks about it, but I don’t think she really knew much of life outside of the Order so she was always cautiously curious. And there was this moment where I was telling her about my first kiss and we kind of leaned in and--nothing happened. At the time I didn’t want to risk making things weird. I... like where we’re at. I’m fine with it.
8. Vacation time! Where do you take Grey for some R&R?
Theron: You know, I just love the sound of that word. Vay-cay-shun. Despite popular opinion I actually do take them, maybe a few more now than when I was single. We have a secret little hideaway that no one else knows about that I like to take her to when things get a little rough or we just need a break from the everything the galaxy is deciding to throw her our way.
Lana: You know, a vacation does sound nice, but someone has to keep things running here, especially when a certain nameless spy whisks our Commander away to fake locales. Seriously, I need a proper itinerary. What if I need to contact them? It’s just rude. Oh right, the question. I suppose I wouldn’t mind visiting some place quiet and out of the way, although I honestly have yet to find a place in galaxy that qualifies because if I take Grey for some reason she always finds someone in trouble that she insists on rescuing.
Kira: I’m not sure if it qualifies as a vacation per se, but I’ve been able to sneak her and one of our other Jedi buddies around base off to Nar Shaddaa for a Girl’s Night. Those are fun, even if we kept getting hit on at the bars. Although that can be entertaining in itself, especially that one time some guy pretended to be a Jedi, and then got this very detailed lecture on how bad an idea that was from Grey. I don’t think I’ve seen a man wilt so fast in my life. I would pay to see that again.
9. Grey’s sense of humor -is it dry, immature, sarcastic, self-deprecating, physical, witty, dark, or…?
Theron: I think it depends on the situation and her mood. It can be very subtle, and sometimes I can’t tell if she’s being serious when she says something ridiculous, or if she’s messing with me. Which... I suppose is fair, because sometimes I do the same to her.
Lana: She loves a good pun, which I find delightful. It’s doubly delightful just to see Theron roll his eyes and groan like he’s being tortured.
Kira: I think a lot of people don’t really get her humor, and honestly it took me a while to realize when she was joking. She likes to let others take the lead when it comes to cracking jokes, but when she does make a zinger, it takes a few seconds for it to land. They’re a lot more sly and subtle than you’d think. My favorite is when she starts to get really frustrated with someone and makes really dry, pointed comments that usually sail right over their heads. She has so many people fooled with that sweet serene Jedi act, they don’t even realize the epic burn until long after the conversation has ended.

Chapter 5: Flight or Fight in the Dark
Another day appear into Etheria and the half-robot, half-human being hadn’t gone out of Glimmer’s room for nearly half of it. He’d just stay quiet and kept himself warm, wrapped with the purple blankets like a small cocoon. Eventually, Georgine knocked the door gently, not meaning to disturb him as she brought a carefully prepared banana split with her.
“My love?” Georgine softly spoke, leaning down to kiss his ear, gently nibbling on it to see if he was fully awake. “Wake up, baby…”
“H-Hmm…” Utopix shifted around the bed, facing her and lightly smiling at the sight of the banana split. He slowly sat on the bed, but Georgine placed him on his lap with ease, planting a kiss on his neck.
“Did you sleep well?” she placed the succulent dessert in front of him.
“I-I… I don’t know if I did…” Utopix began to scoop tiny pieces of the dessert, fiddling around as his thoughts invaded his fragile mind.
“Oh, Uto… It’s gonna be okay. Oliver is almost done creating the device for the portal. We’ll be out of here soon.” Georgine’s hand caressed his exposed knee, helping him scoop the ice cream and brought it to his mouth, cleaning any mess with the back of her finger. “…okay?”
“H-He…” Utopix’s tears began to flow again. “W-What if he’s gone? A-All because of me…”
“Uto. No.” Her fingers touched his chin to face her intimidating visage. “Every person that has fought for you has done it because they wanted you to live… and you shouldn’t let it be in vain.”
“But if I…? W-What if I stayed? H-He wouldn’t—”
“Don’t think about what could’ve happened, Uto. Think about what we can do now.”
Utopix eventually wiped his tears away, nodded, and ate the rest of the ice cream as tears rolled down his face again.
“My love?” Georgine rubbed his sides, seeing his tears again.
Utopix sniffled, recovering bits of his breath. “…I-It tastes good.”
Georgine lowly chuckled at his response, kissing his shoulder multiple times to calm his sweet love down.
It didn’t take the super pal trio too long to barge in the room unannounced.
“Is he okay? How is he feeling!?” Adora peeked her head by the door, eyes wide open and full of concern.
“Bow! Get off of me!” Glimmer groaned, trying to shake him off.
“Well, if Adora wasn’t on top of ME, then maybe I’ll—!” Bow exclaimed as the trio fell on top of each other.
Utopix sweetly laughed at their silly action and continued to eat the ice cream.
“What do y’all want?” Georgine stared at the dumb trio in her eyes.
“Well, your friends are still helping Oliver build the machine. So, we just wanted to check on Utopix,” Bow kindly smiled.
“He’s fine. Thank you.” Georgine maintained her repressed attitude despite the previous circumstances.
“Georgie…” Utopix slightly frowned.
“Is there anything we can do for you, Utopix?” Glimmer asked, hoping he’d want to get more ice cream so she could have an excuse to barge in the kitchen again.
“I-I’m fine, really.” Utopix set the bowl aside and got up with a smile on his face. “Maybe if I could just— AAH!” The robot cried out loud as a sudden rise of electrifying energy took over his body, obligating his body to fall down.
“Uto!” Georgine immediately rushed to help him, carefully embracing him in her arms as the other three stared in distress. “W-What’s going on, baby? What is it?”
“I-I don’t…” Utopix’s voice started to fade away, as his hands clenced Georgine’s clothes. “O-Oh, god... N-No…” His eyes stared at the ceiling, but his vision would get flashes of the Fright Zone. A room. Violent hisses going off and yells of a known individual. Oh, the luck he had for sharing a physical connection with him. Experimenting every single cut, every shock to his body, bringing him to tears. Not due to the pain… but due to the fact that he was experiencing it because of him.
“Uto! Talk to me!” Georgine would shake his body to try and get a response, but it was useless.
The pain on Utopix’s body retained him from speaking any word. And even if he could, he couldn’t find the words to explain what was happening. A noise then barged through the room, flying towards the one that was tossing and turning in its endless torture.
Sabrina.
The three eventually noticed that she had gone in and yelled in pure shock.
“It’s a big face!” Bow pointed at her, his voice cracking accompanying his amusement.
Sabrina rolled her digitalized eyes and faced Utopix who was equally surprised that she was finally back online. “Hey. Can you listen to me?”
Utopix struggled to let his binary code function properly, but eventually he managed to transfer a ‘Yes’ onto her system. Sabrina nodded, basically leaning forward then back again, and allowed her arms to examinate him thoroughly.
“Your inner systems are experiencing a malfunction. A part of it is still connected to him… but you need to concentrate, Utopix. It’s not happening to you, you hear me? Concentrate on that.” Sabrina instructed him on what to do.
Utopix shut his eyes tightly as the pain overtook him. He tried to speak but uncoherent gasps would come out instead.
“No, no, no.” Sabrina restrained him from doing so. “Keep your mind blank. Breathe in… and out.”
Utopix managed to let the tiniest strand of oxygen in him, allowing some words to finally come out as well. “I-I c-can’t… It b-burns… I-I can’t do it!”
“Yes, you can! You’ve done this before! Come on, Utopix! Breathe!” Sabrina held onto his hand, letting him grasp it as hard as he needed to.
The little one felt like his mind would go black from the unbearable pain surrounding him. His fingers ran down Georgine’s broad back as he finally caught his breath in really short gasps. The tears flowing down his face endlessly as he heard his last yell come out. The pain had gone away… but a new one had added. Eventually, his breath found its normal rhythm, yet he cried and trembled after finding out about yet another tragedy. Georgine helped him up and embraced him, comforting him from the horrible moment.
“Attaboy, baby… There we go…” she sweetly whispered in his ear, repeating the last phrase numerous times.
“H-He’s gone… HE’S GONE!” Utopix cried out like he never did before, nearly scaring Georgine but that just made her comfort him even more.
Sabrina sighed in disappointment, seeing how the other three were still staring at her. “You.” Sabrina looked at Glimmer, who pointed at herself, unsure if she was speaking with her. “Can the Moonstone heal foreign allies?”
Glimmer thought for a moment then shook her head. “No. But Adora can heal as She-Ra if that’s what you need.”
“I-I can only heal actual people. Utopix is mostly made of technology. I-I don’t think—” Adora frowned until she was interrupted by the levitating robot.
“Utopix is mostly made of organic tissues and organs. The technology within him just enhances it and keeps it steady for him to be consider a tech piece.” Sabrina explained. “Plus, my files show that you fixed a shield back in the water princess’ world. So, technically, you can heal him.”
Adora let out a long sigh and then nodded. “Fine.”
Georgine set Utopix down on the bed who was still catching his breath to try and regulate the tiny waves of energy pulsating through his body like a curse. Adora came back to the room, wielding the sword as She-Ra, taking a deep breath and exhaling as needed to begin the healing process. Adora’s eyes looked at the poor one shaking as she lined the sword with her face, her eyes lighting up as she sent the wave of restoring energy to the fainted robot. Once Utopix felt the calming aura around his body, he opened his eyes and looked up at Adora, contemplating that marvelous and heroic form once again with a faint grin.
“T-Thank you…”
“It’s all good now. Just rest now.”
===================
Catra was having the worst time of her life. A mission nearly failed, her target escaped, the most valuable of his soldiers was gone, and Lord Hordak would not stop consuming her time with aggravating questions about how she intended to recover from this.
“I don’t know! I—” Catra exclaimed.
“Well, you better act fast on your own plan!” Hordak shouted. “We have no more parts to spare…” he said as he held… his core. The sight of it made Catra shake, nearly bringing tears to her eyes. “…and his is not as powerful as I’m assuming the other robot’s is.”
“I-I…” Catra tried to compose herself after contemplating and imagining the grotesque scene. “I’ll try and find the robot—”
“Your attempts have just managed to slow us down. I’ll let my newest ally handle this problem.”
Catra’s ears perked at his statement. “…new ally?”
===================
The poor robot decided to take some fresh air and decided to sit and watch the garden after the oh-so-pleasant experience. Thankfully, Georgine was watching over him from the balcony so he didn’t have to worry about another ambush coming his way. His hands pricked some flowers, letting a red one fly into the gentle wind as a form of… grief, and using the rest to create some flower crowns for him and his new friends.
“It’s a good thing that Perfuma isn’t here or she’d definitely yell at you,” Adora suddenly appeared and crouched down to then sit next to him.
Georgine let his body feel looser at the presence of someone who could protect Utopix if an enemy was nearby. Bow approached the angel warrior and decided to accompany her on her Utopix-gazing.
“Still doubting?” Bow asked, meaning to begin a conversation with her.
“About?” Georgine cocked an eyebrow, her eyes lightly narrowed.
“Adora,” Bow grinned in his response. “It seems like you really insist on protecting Utopix despite having people that want to help you.”
Makena came from the back, lightly laughing at his statement. “It’s because she’s a Zoulex, Bow.”
“What’s a Zoulex anyway?” Bow expressed his curiosity upon the subject.
“Well, mostly a guardian angel. A Zoulex is usually assigned a specific person on any realm to protect them no matter what… but…” Georgine glanced away from the two, Makena’s palm running up and down her back to comfort her from what she already knew.
“…But?” Bow frowned, afraid of what she’d respond.
“I landed on Earth years ago due to something that happened on my world. There, I found a family that took me in, and they had a little kid named… Matthew. I instantly knew that he was my assigned ward… but… the problems of my world eventually followed me and… he…” Georgine closed her eyes, as the scene played in her head.
“When a Zoulex fails its purpose… it’s… a big loss.” Makena spoke on her behalf.
“You don’t want the same happening to him.” Bow concluded, glancing at Utopix below. “…is Utopix your new ward?”
“I’m not sure… but I don’t need to know that to protect him.” Georgine glanced back at the two who were still gladfully talking.
Adora and Utopix shared a laugh after telling him one of her funny anecdotes.
“And she sabotaged the prom dance just to get to you?” Utopix continued laughing.
“I guess she’s that desperate about me.” Adora grinned, telling him about Catra and the situation back at Princess Prom. “I feel like she does that to catch my attention on purpose. Poor her.”
Utopix dried one of his tears of joy to look back at her. “But you two were friends, right?”
“Who? Catra? Yeah… but I’m not sure if I’m really into it anymore.” Adora grabbed some dried grass, letting it flow onto the passing wind.
“W-Why is that?” Utopix frowned upon her response.
Adora’s eyes subtly narrowed and scooted near him as so did he. “Well… I can be a little… much of a handful for Catra.”
Utopix placed his hand on hers, meaning to comfort her apparent state. “Why wouldn’t she want you near her?”
“I guess she doesn’t want…” Adora’s hand cupped Utopix’s cheek, making his cheeks tingle with an uncomfortable heat. “…someone that likes to wander into dangerous territory.” Adora whispered, sending shivers down Utopix’s spine, but also alerting him that something was off…
Bow observed the two, misinterpreting the situation. “Aww. Look at that. Adora and Utopix are getting friendly with each other.”
“Do you wanna know why I was chosen as She-Ra?” Adora’s face inched closer to his, her voice sweetly dragging him in.
“A-Adora…” Utopix tried to back his face away from hers, but her hand would obligate it to stay close.
“I can show you why…~” Adora’s lips forcefully locked with Utopix’s, making him whimper… not knowing of what.
“Probably a bit too friendly!” Bow’s voice cracked in shock at the sudden intrusion.
Georgine seemed like she’d nearly explode of rage and stormed down the stairs with the other two that followed her close by, along with Glimmer, who joined the parade after seeing them rushed down the hallway as if they left the stove on.
Adora kept the session going, letting her tongue dance around the whimpering-and-fully-flustered robot’s mouth. Her mouth gently traveling down the crook of his neck. His hands gently gripped her shoulders, unsure of what to do… He’d pull away for a moment to catch his breath, contemplating Adora’s sneering smirk.
“U-Uh… A-Adora~” Utopix was brought up back again onto the session as the other passionately kissed him, pinning him to the flowered ground, meaning to quite literally take his breath away. Utopix just wanted to stop… the thought of betraying Georgine right in front of her just filled him with sadness that he expressed once again through his eyes. But he couldn’t stop. He couldn’t move nor breath. Begging to sweet mercy that it’d stop soon. The other eventually stopped, flashing yet another smirk and leaning forward to whisper something in his ear as the robot caught his breath rapidly.
“I missed kissing you like that, dear…” Adora whispered, seemingly. Her voice considerably lower than usual.
And there it was. A wave of relief. It was not her.
“Y-You…” Utopix’s wrists struggled under her hands who then revealed her true form.
Takara.
“Get off of me!” Utopix kneed her stomach to free from her grasp, making her groan. “W-What are you doing here!?”
“Ugh… and to think I let you in that easily.” Takara stood up, flicking her hair to have a better look at him.
Her hands suddenly casted an electric whip to knock him out. But he had been in this situation multiple times and in different scenarios, so he easily dodged it, pouncing himself on her.
“Utopix…” her eyes took him up and down. “I didn’t take you for that kind~”
He growled and placed his hands together in a fist to knock her out; but just as Georgine, Bow, Glimmer and the others finally entered the garden, Takara snapped her fingers to gain the former appearance, making the others see ‘Adora’ and Utopix in a… compromising position.
“Woah! Okay! C’mon, Adora!” Bow glanced away at the unexpected sight.
“I always thought Utopix was a botto—” Gabriel whispered until he got slapped on the shoulder by Georgine.
‘Adora’ got up, grabbing Utopix by his waist and lifting him up. Just then, the real Adora had returned from her daily stroll with Madame Razz.
“Hey, guys. What’s—” she stayed silent once she saw the other.
The others’ jaws nearly dropped to the floor at the sight, but Georgine had quickly picked up on it.
“Pardon me, darlings. But I’m afraid you got the wrong gal.” ‘Adora’ snapped her fingers, revealing her true form.
“Of course,” Georgine’s fists clenched as Oliver, Makena, and Gabriel flinched as well; letting Adora, Bow, and Glimmer know that that was the Takara they so spoke about.
“Oh, dear~” Takara laughed at their sudden actions. “You’re that fond of him?” She held Utopix in front of her, gripping the back of his neck and lifting his small body up. “How pathetic of you.”
Georgine placed the AMR gadget on her hand, ready to strike the one near her. Adora equally pulling her sword from behind her in case she needed to transform.
“Let him go now!” Georgine activated the gadget as waves of electricity ran around it.
“Oh, I do not intend to.” Takara smirked, keeping Utopix close to her. “You see, Lord Hordak promised me to collaborate on my plan to get this sweetie’s main core for my great weapon. After we tried to use… ugh… someone’s pathetic excuse for a main core…”
The others immediately gasped, knowing who she referred to.
“…we just knew that we needed to use this little peep’s either way. And thank you, Georgine.”
Georgine’s eyes lightly widen.
“You took a great weight off my back with that bastard.” Takara’s evil grin appeared on her face before teleporting away from there.
Georgine’s knees trembled, falling to the floor, realizing what she had done. Her known trio rushed to her, one of them embracing them from behind.
“Georgine… I-It was not your fault… Otu wanted to save him.” Makena reassured her.
Georgine’s expression was blank, until she finally reacted by blasting the dry trees on the garden in pure rage. The only thing the others could do was watch as her fury eventually faded away in a gentle exhale.
“We have to stop them. Now.” Georgine looked at Adora with genuine concern on her words. The sword-wielding-warrior agreed on her statement, ready to gather the rest up for the upcoming battle.
===================
Takara appeared on Lord Hordak’s lab, dropping Utopix near her who grunted on his rough landing. Catra’s ear flipped on their direction, turning around to see the new guest.
“Well, well, well…” the cat’s tail wagged around, rosing the floor as she did so. “Are you comfortable, Your Majesty?”
“Y-You…” Utopix growled at her, tears forming yet again as he stood up. “You KILLED him!” He was about to pounce against the other female responsible for Otu’s demise but was held back by the other one. “WHY!?” The little one slid down Takara’s arms and onto the ground, crying uncontrollably.
Lord Hordak groaned upon the disturbing scene and revealed himself to the light once again. “Make him stop! We must prepare the weapon now.”
Catra nodded, grabbing Utopix’s arm by force and dragging him back to the compartment he escaped from before. Catra kept him in place, positioning him on a platform as Takara accompanied her, ready to open the grieving robot apart. His eyes widened at the sight of the familiar ceiling above him. His hands gripped the locks tied around his wrists, nearly feeling his hands upon them. Takara grabbed one of the blades, positioning it near his face.
“This is a familiar scenario, ain’t it, Uto-dear?” she leaned near his ear in the same fashion, whispering the menacing words that reminded him of that one unpleasant night with her. “But don’t worry… unlike that time… this will end soon.”
The blade begun to create the incision on his chest, reaching it deeply till she reached the depth she needed. Surprisingly, he didn’t scream… nothing but a soft whimper. He had been exposed to so much lately that physical pain didn’t compare to it. Catra witnessed the horrendous act, feeling like she’d throw up at any moment, so she stormed out of the room without another word.
“It’s just you and me now, dear…” Takara merely smirked as she continued to create the required cuts on the robot’s body. “Stay with me, little one.” Her fingers intertwined with his cold ones, rapidly losing blood. “…just like before.”
Utopix’s quieted sobs could just think of one thing. A pair of words before his mind went completely black.
“I’m sorry… Georgie…”
There. Georgine then knew. The soft hum of the transport taking them there brought her back to reality.
“G-Georgine? What’s going on…?” Makena picked up on Georgine’s expression.
“…w-we’re too late.” Georgine’s voice trembled.
===================
Catra finally armed herself of courage to enter the bloody chamber after Lord Hordak and Takara were doing the final touches to their doomsday weapon. Her hands carefully ran down the marks made on the wall, done by the one that came in there earlier. Scorpia sprinted around the corner, noticing her captain somewhat abrupted out of her mind.
“Hey, Catra! What’s—! …Catra?” Scorpia walked close to her to see what have happened.
Catra’s eyes were locked onto the body disposed on the platform. Lifeless, nearly white, and cut open. Scorpia’s face drenched at the ungodly sight and glanced away.
“Ugh! What gives!? What is that?” Scorpia exclaimed in disgust.
Catra stayed silent as she walked inside, filled of valor, contemplating the body. She didn’t know what caused it, but her arms embraced Utopix, bringing it down with her as she sat against the wall, gently caressing its features, staining her hands with his blue-colored blood as tears filled her eyes.
“Catra?” Scorpia asked in concern.
Catra’s tears kept on flowing out of her face without permission as she bit her lip, not wanting the sobs to come out so she hit a pile of containers instead. “Why is EVERYTHING taken away from me!?”
“Catra, please. It’s not that—”
“Hordak probably knew about 36 from the start!” Catra got up, carrying Utopix’s deceased steel body in her arms. “He used me like an idiot, thinking that I was actually one step ahead of him!” The tears continued to flow. “When in reality, I am always dozens of steps behind!” Her hand punched the wall, nearly shaking the whole room. She quickly regained her balance, looking at Scorpia in a sinister way. Tired out of her mind. “We need to find Adora… so she can put an end to this.”
“You’re gonna let her do the job?” Scorpia was caught on a loop.
“I don’t care,” Catra contemplated Utopix once again as the last tears left her eyes. “I don’t care about anything anymore…”
A kuxa, an artificex’s soul, feeds from emotions. The emotions of its user, the emotions of the ones near them, and the ones that display towards the user. And it just happened. The tiniest light had jingled on Utopix’s, regaining the piece of strength he had lost. The color went back to his cheeks, spreading towards his whole body and the oxygen pushed its way inside his lungs. Making him gasp.
“Ca… Catra?” The robot opened his eyes, seeing the two looked at him in pure shock. “You… Y-You… like me?”
Catra quietly laughed at his statement, bringing a hand to his hair and curling it. “Don’t get too cocky, bolt brain.”
Her response made him smile… Now he knows where he got that from. He couldn’t say anything else other than give her a hug that caught her off guard.
“Yeah, yeah. Don’t get used to it…” Catra gently pushed him away.
Utopix’s cheeks lightly tingled with happiness, feeling safe for the first time around Catra.
Scorpia’s face was filled by excitement and lifted the two in her prickly arms. “Yes! The Super Pal Trio is back!”
“Ugh!” Catra protested. “Scorpia! Put me down!”
Scorpia could only just laugh apologetically and carefully placed the duo down. And so, the plan was in action. Catra and Scorpia sneaked around the halls as the big scorpion gal carried Utopix in her arms in the most delicate way possible. A big and metallic sound peered through the walls, eventually revealing herself. It was Emily.
“Ugh! I don’t need this right now…” Catra’s palms covered her face upon seeing the robot.
Emily’s beeps and bops got to Utopix who flustered on seeing a machine that could communicate with him with such ease. Delicate waves of numbers ran through Utopix’s eyes, blinking to then understand what the robot was trying to say.
“G-Georgie? Here?” Utopix concluded. “T-Take us to her.”
Emily seemed to nod and rolled down the halls as the trio followed her closely. Eventually they went outside to see that the humming ship was just standing in the middle of the zone with its passengers apparently discussing about Utopix’s ‘current’ state. The robot decided to cry out to catch their attention.
“Georgie!”
Georgine thought that it could not be him. Maybe her mind was betraying, playing tricks on her like it did with Matthew, but a slight turn would make her take notice of a far horrendous sight. Once the crew misinterpret the two carrying Utopix, they immediately launched into battle against the two; but Utopix, yet again, stopped them.
“S-Stop!” The robot demanded. “T-They helped me…”
“I’m sorry. What?” Mermista’s hands clenced as her shoulders shrugged.
Scorpia delicately placed Utopix aside as he leaned against her shoulder for balance. The little one attempted to walk towards Georgine like a newborn toddler, but fortunately slipped on her strong arms.
“M-My main core…” Utopix spoke as he could. “…Takara has it but—”
“You’re feeding from your kuxa energy.” Sabrina concluded. “It’s not going to last for long.”
“What do you mean?” Makena asked.
“Imagine a phone going into a battery-saving mode. Utopix can still move and talk but his energy is still going to decrease rapidly.” Oliver explained.
“We need to get his main core before Takara starts her weapon.” Georgine set the new plan.
“…W-What’d happen if the weapon starts before we get it?” Perfuma feared for the worst.
“He’d… be compromised.” Oliver frowned on his statement.
Catra glanced away from the group, ready to leave the group to their petty strategies. Adora picked up on it not planning to leave her out of the action.
“Catra…” Adora softly spoke, sprinting towards her before she could completely leave.
The mention of her name would make the cat dig her claws on her palms. “…What?” Catra firmly spoke. “You have him already. Just go and stop the thing, will ya?” The grumpy cat begun to walk away but was stopped by Adora who held her wrist.
“Catra. I… We need you. Please.” Adora begged her. Begged her to stay.
Catra’s face was turned away from the dirty-blond-haired girl; but after a long sigh, she took her choice. “Fine.” She turned around to face the other. Quite literally. Adora felt a wave of relief go on her hearing her response. She was actually surprised she acceded. “But I am not doing this for you. Nor them.” Catra’s typical temper came into play as usual.
“Then, why?” Adora looked at her with a semi-sad expression.
Catra lightly glanced at the robot who had been staring at the two’s semi confrontation. Her eyes quickly averted back to Adora hoping she didn’t notice. She didn’t. “…it doesn’t matter. I just don’t want them to win the glory that I deserve.”
Adora’s body went loose at the response, hoping she’d say something else. But what could it have been? Her mind stirred around her reasoning. She would just not accept to help her with a plan against the Fright Zone after the near victory she had with the portal. But she kept her emotions quiet.
The new plan was set afoot: Team A, or Team Shiny, formed by Glimmer, Perfuma, Frosta, and Mermista, would distract the soldiers to keep the path cleared when they needed to escape. Team B, or Team Seahawk, formed by Oliver, Gabriel, Makena, Bow, Seahawk, and Sabrina, would attack the security and hack it to the best of their ability to avoid any power or electricity from powering the machine in case it needed or had a backup source. Team C, or Team She-Ra, formed by Adora, Georgine, Utopix, Catra, Scorpia, and Emily, had the main mission which was to get Utopix’s main core and keep him close at all times. Three groups, three targets, one chance.
“Oliver!” Adora spoke through the communicator, alerting him how they were approaching a locked door which he immediately opened. A smirk was drawn on her face when she saw some soldiers standing at the other side, pointing the sword at them after transforming as She-Ra. “Let’s do this.” Catra rolled her eyes at how cocky her statement was.
The soldiers noticed the crew and was confused when they saw Catra and Scorpia with it. Catra rapidly jumped against the wall and onto one of the soldiers’ backs, knocking them down.
“…we… could just tell them to stand down, you know?” Scorpia said.
Catra’s tail wagged around happily, a smirk adorning her lips. “Nah. It’s more fun this way.”
Team C eventually reached the situation room where the weapon was finally finished. They examined it carefully and peeked around the small roof corner they were in.
“Sabrina. Oliver.” Georgine pressed the ear communicator as she stared the menacing machine. “Fill us in.”
“The weapon has multiple power sources. It’s really unstable! The thing that it’s keeping it going is Utopix’s main core. You’ll have to wait till we turn all of the power sources to get the main core or it can collide catastrophically.” Oliver explained through the communicator that went through Team C’s feed.
“What can we do for now?” Georgine asked.
“Keep them busy. Do not, I repeat, do NOT let them turn it on!” Oliver responded, nearly in desperation.
“Understood,” Adora concurred.
“How delightful…” Takara looked up, seeing the crew hiding up in the roof. “You intend to fool our plans?” She laughed in pure mockery. “Funny.”
Catra growled but was stopped by Adora who yanked her arm.
“Oh… Look at that.” Takara pretended to be shocked at Catra and Scorpia adding themselves to the heroic group. “You got the cat and scorpion girls with you. What’s wrong, Catra-dear? Couldn’t grow too fond of just one robot?” The purple-eyed one smirked at the thought, making Catra scream and avalanche herself at her as tears appeared in her eyes.
“Catra! NO!” Adora ran after her, the others following her close.
Catra swung her claws around meaning to scratch the egotistical maniac’s face. Her tears maintained their place on the corners of her eyes, remembering what she did to the poor maroon-haired robot… She could still hear those yells filled of desperation, claiming for help, for something… someone… anyone… blaming herself for how it was partly her fault. For all she cared, it should’ve been her, despite not having a main core. She has had enough of the Horde taking anything precious to her: Adora, Shadow Weaver, number 36… and now, Utopix. But she didn’t really care about the other robot. No. She just wanted an opportunity, any, to prove her worth to anyone. And Utopix seemed to care. And it was more than enough for her.
Eventually, Adora wrapped her arm around her waist to refrain her from fighting any longer, which was easy due to her being She-Ra. Catra yelled, demanding that she’d let her go, but Adora insisted. Catra stopped her struggle and stood beside her, lowering her head in defeat.
“What is she talking about, Catra?” Adora’s tone was apologetic.
“I said that it doesn’t matter, okay!?” Catra shouted, the tears finally running down her cheek as if it was a race.
“Ah, Catra.” Lord Hordak appeared from the shadows and standing near the machine. “Such a pity excuse for a force captain. Even you, Adora.”
Adora aimed the sword at him. “Give us the main core right now!”
“We promise we’ll spare you if you do.” Georgine prepared the gadget in her hand, stepping forward between the two.
Lord Hordak glanced at the robot being carried by Scorpia, still breathing and seemingly stable. A devilish grin appeared on his face, closing his eyes as he went into a deeper thought. “What is the rule A-17 in the Fright Zone, uh Captains?”
Adora’s eyes narrowed as she gripped the sword in her hands.
“Always have a plan B.” Lord Hordak opened his red eyes, snapping his fingers to release a deadly wave of darkness that wrapped the heroes in an instance, bringing them to their knees and making it impossible for them to move.
Scorpia yelped once the darkness touched her and threw Utopix to Georgine’s arms who then threw him to the floor free from the harmful substance. Adora’s feet begun to get dragged by the dangerous stands and easily cut them by swinging her sword at them. She quickly freed Utopix whose feet were beginning to get dragged as well, embracing him to keep him away from the danger.
Suddenly, a low hum covered the whole place, indicating that Oliver was successful on turning off all of the power sources that could potentially power the machine. Lord Hordak begun to growl, thinking that he had been defeated.
“Oh. Oh, dear. We better fix that.” Takara lowly chuckled, twirling her finger around to send a maddening wave shock to Utopix’s body, positioning him near the machine to power it up again.
The kuxa in his system responded to the main core, turning everything back up again.
Takara chuckled once again. “And to think that your emotions were actually useful for something. Ready, Lord Hordak?” And with his nod of approval, she reached for the powering switch.
“No! Get—away from him!” Catra struggled on the waves of darkness.
“Uto! No!” Georgine imitated the struggle, desperately trying to get out of it.
Adora had fallen in yet a similar situation… A massive weapon near the edge of being completely powered. Her anxious look went over Utopix, the machine, and the switch. The speed on her steps felt like they were lasting ages to just simply move. Her heartbeat increased, unsure of what her move should be. But she just knew she needed to do something… anything. She let out a loud scream, swinging her sword multiple times at the cables and parts connected to the machine.
“Adora!” Georgine yelled, seeing her futile and reckless actions taking place. “Adora! STOP!”
Adora could not think. She couldn’t hear nor realize what she was doing. She just knew that if she didn’t do something, she’d carry with yet another guilt in her hands. A massive blast sent her flying through the room, contemplating what she had done…
The machine went out of control, hissing and crackling energy all around. Waves of electricity reaching out and busting sparks that burned the ceiling, causing it to crash down. Adora glanced around… the trio was still trapped in the waves of darkness, dragging them down, presumably to their doom… and then she looked at Utopix. The small robot was passed out on the floor, unresponsive, and almost frozen. His skin began to lose color, almost as if it was being sucked away. She dragged herself across the floor as slow as she could to limit the pain of her bruises, burning and sending hot waves through her body as it healed slowly… but the pain would not cease to maim. So, she just lied there as a blazing light enfolded Hordak’s lab and passed beyond its doors.
All she could remember was silence…

all that you have left to lose
Just on a medical note, folks, Peter does regrow his parts, so you Runners don’t need to return any bits you find lying around
Or: an incomplete list of things that runners have returned to Peter Lynne, local disaster
((keeping with my “at least one fic about peter a month” streak for 2020, have a silly little thing about peter being able to regenerate and runners returning his body parts to him anyway. spoilers to... lazarus (s5m30) i think? the fic exists Technically sometime in early s6 but it doesn’t include any of late s5/s6′s plot points so! you should be good. please enjoy!))
{ao3}
1. Ear (Right, torn)
Nadia drops the ear in front of Peter at the mess hall, which is less than ideal for a variety of reasons. A bit because it makes Peter want to eat his mystery soup a little less, but mostly because it causes Reggie from the kitchen to glare over at them.
"What did I say about dismembered limbs in my mess hall?"
"Not allowed unless they're going in your food," Peter dutifully recites. "Though, can I just say, that's majorly creepy. Am I supposed to take that as 'If Abel had a food shortage, you'd become our very own renewable meat source'? Because that's how I've taken it."
Reggie doesn't respond except to narrow their eyes further, which isn't exactly inspiring.
Peter turns back to Nadia. "Good afternoon, Nadia! To what do I owe the honor?"
"Someone gave this to Veronica but she said that it wasn't a 'good enough sample,'" Nadia says, with the look of an indulgent older sibling who's been given a mudpie. "I figured you might want it back."
Peter is never sure where he stands with Nadia; she didn't know him, before, and hasn't really shown any interest in getting to know him now, beyond awkward small talk when he goes to Veronica's labs. Still, as her hand's twitch against the wheels of her chair, he recognizes her bravado, as well as the devotion to someone who's just a bit crazy. He smiles at her, puts his spoon down, and picks up the ear. He doesn't want it, not really, but it was nice of her to bring it.
--
2. Finger (Left pinky, cut just above the palm)
Peter supposes that it’s his fault, walking up to another runner without loudly announcing his presence beforehand. Still, it's not like he knew Jody was sharpening her knife.
"Peter, oh my god, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to!" Jody gasps, dropping out of her defensive stance as easily as she'd moved into it. Between them on the soft grass of the quad, Peter's finger lays forlornly.
"Since when do you use knives anyway?" Peter hisses, voice muffled by how he's shoved his hand into his mouth in a reflexive attempt to stop the pain. He knows that his body is working to fix it, that in a few hours he'll have a full hand again, but still.
"Tom gave it to me," Jody replies, more starry-eyed than the statement would've called for half a decade ago. Really, Peter should've expected the answer; De Lucas like it best when everyone is nice and well-armed.
"Why are you sharpening it, then? I'd say it's sharp enough already, obviously." Peter wiggles his pinky-less hand pointedly, though there's a significant part of him that's thankful that he only caught her after the knife was sharp enough to make a clean cut: a half-dull blade would've hurt more. Jody scowls, though her eyes still have an apologetic sheen to them.
"Well, what are you doing skulking around like that? You nearly gave me a heart attack!"
"I was going to ask if you wanted to join me on a book exchange run because I heard a rumor that Fort Canton had the fifth Percy Jackson book," Peter huffs, "But now I think I should just go alone."
"Oh, don't be like that," Jody says. She picks up Peter's still bleeding finger from the ground and tosses it to him as she bends to tie her sneakers tighter.
"What am I supposed to do with this?" Peter asks, making a face. The wound on his hand has closed up, overactive cells already starting to grow him a new pinky, but he puts the old one up to the spot for a moment anyway, pulling it away like a macabre mimicry of a fake finger magic trick.
"I dunno, that's none of my business, is it?" Jody snarks, "Now, let's go, before someone else gets that novel."

3. Kidney (Look, it’s been a hard week)
"Damn it, Peter," Louise Bailey hisses, and something hits Peter's back, fast enough that he knows she threw it, "I slipped on your intestines!"
"Sorry! Next time someone's slicing through me with a machete, I'll be sure to keep all my organs inside so I don't hurt you," Peter snarks back as she catches up with him. She didn't actually slip on his intestines, Peter knows, because his intestines are definitely still inside of his body, despite the large torso-spanning slash that he's weakly pressing his hands against -- it used to be hard for him to tell what he'd lost or what hurts, but he's become something of an expert at it since he's rejoined Abel. He's still not sure if that's a good thing. Still, Louise probably did trip on something of his, since whatever she threw at his back was too fleshy and soft to be anything but organic, and he's certain that a few of his less than vital organs spilled out. "You know, this is why I hate missions where I have to deal with people."
"Because you lose your organs?" Louise asks, voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Yes, because I lose my organs! Zombies bite and scratch, but they don't throw knives or slice me up. I may be immortal but I can still feel pain," Peter says. Louise is quiet for a moment before she turns around. Peter slows down, nervously looking back towards her and, unfortunately, the direction that their pursuers are coming from. "Oi! What are you doing?"
Louise bends to pick something up and doubles back, cradling a fist-sized, burgundy thing in her hands. She tosses it and Peter catches it on reflex. "Here, it's yours anyway."
The kidney is a bit misshapen and smushed, probably from where Louise stepped on it, but it's still warm in his hands. Louise looks at him out the side of her eye like she's expecting him to just pull open his cut and pop it back in. He slides it into his backpack instead, already anticipating a lecture from Maxine about getting bio-goo on Township supplies. "Thanks, appreciate it."

4. Three toes, as well as one and a half loose phalanges (Big and index of right, big of left, god knows where those phalanges came from)
Paula frowns at Peter's feet. Peter frowns at the roof of the building that he still calls the Med Tent in his head.
"Well, doctor?" He asks, "What's the verdict?"
Paula moves her scrutiny to Peter's face. "I don't know how you managed to crush your feet like this-"
"I was carrying a supply crate and I tripped, alright, it's not like I did it on purpose," Peter defends. Paula continues as though he hadn't spoken.
"But, usually, I'd do an X-ray and maybe some surgery to re-set, then wrap the toes up for a few weeks. For you, I can tell that at least two of these have set wrong already, so I'll have to re-break them. Though I guess, I could always just amputate."
Peter considers this. "Which one will be faster?"
"The amputation, but you'd be off-balance while things grew back."
"I'd be off-balance with the wrap too," Peter waves her concern off like he's swatting a bug, "No, no, better the quick solution. Can I get anesthetic?"
"Can you get- Of course you can Peter, what kind of doctor do you think I am?" Paula shakes her head at him. "Sometimes, I wonder what's going on in that head of yours."
Peter grins at her, unrepentant and a little self-deprecating. "You and me both, Doc."
Later, after Peter's enjoyed some of the best pain-numbing that Abel can spare and has been given a blindfold because "If you don't stop looking down here and flinching, I'm going to have to cut even more and neither of us wants that," Paula hands Peter a biohazard bag.
Peter shakes it experimentally and scrunches his nose at the sound of flesh bouncing around inside. "Are these my toes?"
"Yes. Bring them over to Veronica for me, would you? She's been trying to convince Maxine that it would be ethical to cut off one of your limbs for nearly a month now, anyway, might as well give her some actually ethically-sourced Peter parts."
"What am I, a mailman?" Peter asks, peeking into the bag and wincing with phantom pain. Paula frowns at him.
"Do you need a blindfold to wear on the way over to Veronica's as well?"
"Why, Doctor Cohen, I didn't think you were into that sort of thing," Peter leers, breaking into laughter when Paula throws a roll of bandages at him. "Alright, alright, I'm going!"
"And be careful of that foot!"
--
5. A rather large bone (???)
"That is not mine."
Tom stares at Peter, unblinking. Peter likes Tom, he did even when Tom was more liability than friend, but god if he isn't creepy sometimes.
"Are you sure?" Tom asks, looking from the bone, a massive thing that's clearly longer than Peter's forearm, to Peter.
"I'm quite sure. I don't know who's out there missing a bone, but I like to think that I would've noticed losing a leg bone."
Tom hums, consideringly. He picks up the bone and swings it once, as though he's testing the heft and balance. Peter suddenly has a horrible vision of Tom, just as dangerous and De Luca-ish as he is right now, but also armed with a bone sword. He doesn't think that Janine would ever forgive him if he let that happen.
"Actually, you know what?" Peter says, reaching forward and taking the bone from Tom, "I think this might be mine. Thank you for returning it, I'll just, uh, add it to the collection, as it were."
"You collect your own bones?" Tom asks. Peter, who is already too far in, just smiles back at him.
"We all have our little hobbies," He offers. Tom raises his eyebrows but nods. Still, Peter makes a mental note to tell Jody to be on the lookout for any weird new quirks; Tom had seemed much too interested in the concept of a bone collection.

+ 1. Nothing
Five clears their throat as they enter Peter's curtained-off corner of the Med Tent. "Rare that you're trapped in here," They sign.
"Unfortunately, even I need some time and doctor assistance to fix spinal trauma," Peter says, putting down the knitting that Jody gave him; he appreciates the gesture but knitting when one of your hands is pins-and-needles numb and you can only use the other if you hold your arm in a very particular position while your nerves knit themselves back together is more effort than it's worth. "Nice of you to come visit, though."
Five makes a face, their classic I'm not sorry but manners tell me that I should be face, and signs, "Sam told me that I should come visit you. He says I shouldn't keep your things without asking."
"My things?" Peter asks, brow furrowed. "What do you have of mine? I didn't you'd be much for theft, Five. Well, theft among friends, that is."
"I'm not, it's just-" They cut themselves off and reach into their pocket with a heavy sigh. What they pull out is small, white, and clean. Peter's confused for a moment, wondering why in the world Sam thinks it's his, and then Five moves it in their hand and he gets a better idea of the shape and- huh.
"That's one of my vertebrae." He says, though it sounds more accusing than he'd wanted. Five scowls.
"I found it, fair and square. You just left it on the ground, obviously you didn't care about it."
"Five, my dearest, darling head of runners," Peter starts, desperately wishing that his hands were working enough that he could steeple them for emphasis. "I passed out from blood loss."
"That's not any of my business!" Five signs emphatically.
Sometimes, Peter forgets that Five is like this; sometimes, in his head, Five is a big soft puppy that loves sports bras and Sam. The real Five, unfortunately, is a gremlin who does things like drink shampoo to win a bet and picks up garbage off the ground during runs just because they can. "Whatever, it's fine. I don't want it anyway."
Five looks at him suspiciously but puts the bone away. "Are you sure?"
"Very. I've already regrown most of the damaged pathways, I'm sure the bones are nearly back as well."
"I wasn't really worried about you taking this one back," They say, finally coming closer to settle into the chair next to Peter's bed. "But it would've been okay if you did; I have three more."
"Three more?" Peter asks, "Are they all vertebrae or- Actually, nevermind, I don't want to know and I don't want them back."
"Good," Five grins, sharp as a wolf, "I wouldn't have given them to you anyway."

Constructive criticism: The Superman film series
(An editorial originally posted on Deviantart Mar 26 2015)
Superman, created in 1938 by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. A popular character that has remained popular through the years and is considered an american cultural icon. He has appeared on the radio, animated shows and live action TV. Then someone thought "Wouldn`t it be neat to see the man of tomorrow on the big screen?". Because of the special effects they had back then, portraying Ol` Supes most well known and iconic power: flying, was hard to pull of without making it look a tad bit silly. From what I`ve heard they were, at one point, thinking about taking it in a direction similar to the campy Adam West Batman universe. But Richard Donner (to my knowledge at least, correct me if I`m wrong) wanted it to be a movie that people could take more seriously. So, with a more serious script, good casting, acting, well made flying effects and the music of John Williams you would`ve believed a man could fly. It was a critical and financial success, and with financial success comes sequels. Superman II was a little more tongue in cheek than it`s predecessor but was still considered good and did well at the box office. Then came Superman III... and after it came Superman IV... Both were not that good. Let us, in my very subjective editorial, take a look at were they went wrong and how it could have been improved. Truth, justice and SPOILERS Superman Not really much to mention about the first movie. It is, for it`s time at least, an almost perfect superhero-movie. The score by John Williams fits perfectly with the tone and story and, this is probably just me but, the space scenes have a bit of a 2001: A space odyssey feel to them. There is of course one thing that makes it end up on this list. Reversing time by reversing Earth`s rotation/traveling backwards in time                                                                                                                   In a way it`s an admirable gesture that shows that he is willing to move heaven and earth for Lois and the scene before it is a powerful one where he holds her body in his arms. But still. If he somehow made the planet spin the other way it wouldn`t affect time, the sun would just rise in the west and set in the east. Assuming that the planet and it`s inhabitans would survive the change. Some say that he didn`t actually change the rotation, that it was just a way to illustrate that he actually travelled backwards through time. It would make more sense if he used a wormhole to time-travel. But if he time-travelled, wouldn`t there be two Supermen? The time-travelling one and the one from that time-period? Oh my, I`ve gone cross-eyed! But to be honest, I wouldn`t like that either, I feel it makes him too powerful. Don`t get me wrong, I want Superman to be powerful. But there should be limits. Instead: He`s holding her body in his arms. Superman: "Lois... please... don`t be dead..." (He COULD try to bring her back with CPR. But maybe he`ll accidentally crush her chest with his superstrength or destroy her lungs with his breath? You could argue that he has learned to control his power and hold it back. Yes, but in this scene he`s in a very emotional state. Is he stable enough to control himself that much?) There is silence for a moment... Then: ba-bump! He hears her heartbeat! she`s alive! She regains consciousness and he takes her to the nearest hospital. This shows that despite his god-likeness there are limits to what he can do. Maybe not perfect, maybe it lacks something, but at least it makes sense. Superman II Donner had a different vision of Superman 2 than the one that ended up on the big screen. However, due to off-screen problems between Donner and the producers over shooting schedule and final cut privileges, Donner (who had shot roughly 75% of the movie) was replaced by Richard Lester (who had to shoot 51% of the film in order to get directors credit). I still like the film but I have to admit it lacks a little of what could have made it great in some areas. Zod being amazed by so many things on Earth. I know, Earth and Krypton are two different planets, but still. He could understand what some things are even if they are different from Krypton. Like when he lands in a lake and goes: "strange surface". What? You don`t have lakes on Krypton? Then again, from what I saw of Krypton I don`t remember seeing any, so maybe they don`t. But at one point in Krypton`s history they must`ve had lakes and oceans, right? Not to mention that he`s confused that humans don`t have superpowers. Less of scenes like these. Zod`s telekinesis powers Not poor writing, just a personal opinion of mine. I like it better if all Kryptonians`s powers are limited to the ones Superman usually has. So away with it. That stupid STUPID kid at niagara falls Now this is poor writing. I know that it`s necessary for Superman to save someone so that Lois can get suspicious, but does it have to be in such a stupid way? The kid could have been leaning to get a glimpse of/trying to photograph something and lost his balance, and he could have been on the right side of the rails! (I assume they`re called rails, correct me if I´m wrong, english is my second language.) Not perfect but at least it makes him look like less of a Darwin-award nominee. Real kids are smarter than him... I hope. That female Daily Planet employee Remember the woman who said that the other ones were just as strong as superman? The way she said it made me think she was gonna turn out to be Nelson Muntz in disguise who mocks Lois for rooting on the losing team. She could have said it like: "Oh my god... The other ones are just as strong as Superman!" As if she`s aware that if Supes loses, everyone on Earth is doomed... including her. I know, it`s a small scene, but still. The unnecessarily thrown-in "comedic" moments during the big fight The producers seemed to have thought "this is based on a comic, as in comical. Let`s force in some comedy!" You know scenes like when the man eats an ice cream and it blows away, and the man who tries to make a phonecall and still stays on the phone even when the phonebooth he`s in gets obliterated. Away with scenes like those! Superman throwing the giant "S"-shield and the holographic doubles People think of the "S"-shield thing as another Superpower, but it doesn`t have to be, it could have been a thing that he had prepared. However, since we never find out if it was a power or not and it didn`t really change much, I`d say: loose it. The holographic doubles: From what I remember (correct me if I`m wrong) this is supposed to be a superpower. Why didn`t he use this in other scenes? I would change it to: Supes and Zod and the others fighting each other by moving around quickly with super-speed. The amnesia kiss Added superpower and lazy writing. Instead of Supes erasing Lois`s memory because she can`t handle that Clark is Superman, how about: She feels that having this knowledge is hard, but she can handle it. It would be more mature that way than to reset everything to status qou. Good performance by Margot Kidder though. Superman III Richard Donner was not involved in the making of this movie. Richard Lester was the one in the director`s chair, and the small seeds that hinted the direction of where this franchise was going in the second movie had blossomed to their full potential in this one. (If you can call it "potential".) In this case I don`t feel that it`s enough to list a few points like the previous ones. I`d change most of the plot. Bad guy Since Superman fought a computer in the climax I`d pick Brainiac as the villain. Since it came out 1983 I`d go with the pre-crisis version of him. Plot Earth is visited by an extra terrestrial A.I. that comes in peace, to gather information about us and then leave to continue it`s fact-finding mission (yes, I know, it`s a lot like that episode from that animated series). The A.I. (Brainiac) exposes Supes to a radiation that makes him evil. Some of Earth`s population put their trust in Brainiac since Supes has lost it. Eventually Supes manage to defeat his bad side in a junkyard (I liked that scene so I`m keeping it) and goes to battle Brainiac who, after being defeated, flees back into space. Subplot Since Lois was mostly absent from the third movie she`ll get more screen time in my version. She thinks it`s a bit much to be Supes girlfriend so she leaves Clark to date a more earthbound man. (But she has no trouble keeping his secret though, just so you know.) There could be some scenes where the three meet that could be a little funny but also a litte sad. However, in the end Lois realizes that she still loves Clark and goes back to him. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace This movie was not directed by Richard Lester or produced by Ilya and Alexander Salkind. It didn`t make it any better though. I still kinda liked this movie more than III though. Partly because of it`s so bad it`s goodness but also because it felt more like a Superman movie than a Richard Pryor movie. Still bad though. First... NO CHINESE WALL RESTORING VISION! Nuff said. Lenny Luthor Remove most, if not all of his goofiness or replace him with miss Teschmacher or come up some other assistant of Lex. Lex breaking out of prison Instead of Luthor being freed because the two guards wanted to see what it was like to sit in an expensive car: Have Lenny/miss Teschmacher/new character come flying in with a jetpack, give Lex an extra jetpack that he/she was carrying and have them both fly away together. Badguy Since Nuclear Man was a clone of Superman I`d use Bizarro. The thing with Bizarro though is that he`s not much of a villain. Wether he`s evil or (trying to be) good he`s always mentally slow. Therefore he could be like Frankensteins monster. He may not be as threatening as Nuclear man, but at least he`s 3-dimensional. So technically, the biggest villain in this scenario would still be Lex. Bizarro would just be an obstacle. Also: He wouldn`t be solar powered. Subplots Clark`s mom would be very old but Lana could be helping her take care of the farm. So that scene where a man wants to buy Clark`s farm but he refuses because he only wants to sell to a real farmer wouldn`t be necessary. Since Lois remembers Clarks secret identity in this hypothetical movie and they`ve gotten back together there`s no point in having that scene with the "double date" with her, Clark/Superman and Lacy. This would give more room to Lois`s conflict with David Warfield over what he`s done to Daily Planet, and in some cases she`d have to have this conflict with Lacy Warfield. Plot After Lex escapes from prison he and Lenny/miss Teschmacher/new character gets a hair sample from Supes just like they did in the movie. But they create him in a lab in Lex`s HQ (no rockets in the sun). Lex fills the clone`s head with knowledge through a subliminal "teaching-helmet". The clone is at first a perfect duplicate of Supes but then turns all Bizarro-y. Lex calls him "bizarre" and adds "Oh!" as in "Oh. What the hell am I gonna do with it now!?" But realizes he can still have use for him. Bizarro causes disasters, fights Supes and wins the first round (Beginners luck?). Supes manages got get a piece of Bizarro`s hair during the fight. He gives it to Prof: Phineas Potter (a friend of Supes in the silver age comics) to analyze. Later Bizarro slowly developes a conscience. Round 2: Supes wears a protection suit and tries to use a bit of kryptonite on Bizarro. (It`s the rock that Lex used in the first movie.) Supes gave it to scientists to use against him if he turns evil again like in the third movie (Continuity!). It doesn`t work on Bizarro, they fight. Their battle puts people in danger, Supes has to temporarily incapacitate Bizarro and help them. Bizarro sees how Supes cares about others and then leaves. It ends in a draw. Round 3: Prof Potter has, by comparing Bizarro`s dna with Supes and analyzing how ordinary kryptonite affects Supe`s dna, created blue Kryptonite. Supes uses it against Bizarro. In their fight, civilians are put in danger. Supes try to keep them safe. Bizarro, even though he`s weakened, helps him. They see that they are not enemies and Bizarro turns on Lex who tries to destroy him and sends him to an ambiguous death. In the climax Lex puts on a super-armor-suit, battles Supes, loses and goes back to jail. It is hinted that Bizarro is still alive and travelling the world, trying to do good. In my version there`s no "Supes gets rid of nuclear weapons", but I hope the subplot with Bizarro`s inner journey is enough to make it feel that there are enough plot-lines. Superman Returns After being absent from the big screen for 19 years, Superman (much like the title says) returned to a world with new actors, a bigger budget and digital effects. Directed by Bryan Singer, it completely ignored the last two movies and was a big love letter to Richard Donner`s Superman movies. And it wasn`t very successful. People were not very keen on Supes having a kid with Lois (based on a scene from Richard Donner`s cut of Superman II where Supes and Lois have some nekkid action after he`s given up his powers). Plus Lex`s evil plan was pretty much the same plan he had in the first movie, except with more kryptonite. Lots and lots and lots of kryptonite. How I would have done it.
Plot Supes returns to Earth after having been out in space for a few years, searching for the leftovers of Krypton. His mom is now dead and the farm (like in the last movie) is being taken care of by Lana. She`s glad that he`s back and thinks that he should take care of the farm now because she has plans for her own life and she`s engaged to Pete Ross. Since Supes never found what he hoped to find in space Lana thinks he should try to focus on his life on Earth. Lois is dating a guy (and if there has to be a kid in this movie he/she should be the child of the guy that Lois is dating) and Lex is out of prison. I`d keep the part about Lois writing the "Why the world doesn`t need Superman" article and the part where Supes prevents the plane from crashing. When Supes travelled in space an alien being noticed him and tracked him to earth. Early in the movie Lex seems to be the main bad guy, but then it turns out to be the alien that followed Supes to Earth, and it should be... Mongul! You may ask: "Why not Darkseid?" For the same reason the Avengers didn`t fight Thanos in their first movie, he should come later. Supes fights Mongul and gets unexpected help from Lex who uses his high-tech weapons against the threat. Mongul is defeated and Supes and Lex are celebrated as heroes. Supes however doesn`t believe that Lex has changed, that the heroic act is just for show (and he`s right). Lois leaves the guy she`s dating but doesn`t go back to Supes (at least not yet). Meanwhile: elsewhere, a man is watching the celebration on a big computer-screen (he`s seen from behind and the computer-screen is the only light source in the room). There`s a butler standing next to him. They`re in a cave. With bats. (Sequel-bait!) And those are my ideas. They`re not perfect but I hope they`re not bad.
Have to go now. I have to fight a giant metal spider for some reason.

Hope For Everything
SPOILERS: Basically an AU ending for season 3. Takes place post 3x20, The Fallen, and then picks and chooses storylines from the remainder of the season.
DISCLAIMER: Arrow belongs to DC Comics. Title from Euripides.
AUTHOR’S NOTES: While doing a little work on another story, I found this drabble I'd written in 2015 sitting on my hard drive. It's kind of a silly alternate ending for Season 3 and I'm not sure it's post-worthy, but realityisoverrated, my incredibly talented sister, read it and said I should, so here we are.
The familiar piece of dialogue towards the end is blatantly stolen from 3x23, My Name Is Oliver Queen.

Nothing is hopeless; we must hope for everything.
~Euripides, Hypsipyle
**
Felicity's apartment is empty. Which is a good thing because it should be. Having just come back from Nandar Parbat it would have been bad if someone had been inside when she'd gotten home. Very bad, actually. But still. The silence of her apartment seems loud.
Ray had stayed over the night before their lives had blown up, and his water glass is still sitting on the nightstand in her bedroom, along with his tablet. He'd been struggling with some coding before they'd fallen asleep, but she sees the solution to the problem as soon as her eyes run over it. She picks up the phone to explain what the fix is, but the pang of guilt twisting her heart tells her not to call. He's a smart guy. Surely, he's solved it by now.
She walks through the rooms of her house aimlessly. It's odd to feel the absence of someone who hadn't ever been there before, but flashes of a life she never had keep popping into her head. She can see Oliver there. See him fitting so perfectly into her space. He should be there.
She shakes off the idea because should be doesn't mean he ever will be. They hadn't said goodbye, but it was still what they'd done. The odds of escape had been overwhelming, but it had been his choice to stay in Nandar Parbat. The plane had been less than a mile away- so close and yet so far. It's the story of their relationship in a nutshell.
There's not enough ice cream in the world to process this. But there's a bottle of tequila with a few shots left in it and she drinks it fast, standing over the kitchen sink, letting the burn rush through her and then fade before she finally lets the tears fall.
She'd had everything. For one fleeting moment they'd belonged to each other.
And now she was back to square one.
**
He'd told her to live, so that's what she decides to do, starting with rebuilding the lair. She goes back to the Foundry and heads down the stairs with nervous steps. There's nothing really left to salvage since Captain Lance had seized everything they needed to function as Team Arrow. Her chair rests on its side on the ground so she rights it and then sits, spinning around and around while she thinks. They could always break into the SCPD warehouse and steal everything back. Her feet lift off the floor and she smiles softly, letting the momentum carry her in slow circles. She wonders what Oliver is doing. Maybe, a half a world away, he's dreaming about her.
The chair slows and eventually stops. Sitting directly in her line of sight is the stupid plant she'd bought in a moment of whimsy the previous September. She'd been at a farmer's market picking up the last of the sweet summer corn when she'd seen it. Something had told her to buy it, had told her that Oliver needed a little more life down there in the darkness. She'd been happy that morning, excited about working with him to get back QC. She'd had no idea how thoroughly the rug was about to be ripped out from under them.
She rises from the chair and picks up the fern, a few fronds falling off as it moves through the air. The soil is loose around the base and she pats it down until the roots are covered. It's a miracle it's survived- god only knows the last time someone watered it.
It feels wrong to take it out of the Foundry, but it feels more wrong to leave it. In the end, she thinks Oliver won't mind if it comes to live at her house for a while.
She tucks it under her arm and climbs up the stairs, pausing in the empty doorframe. Her free hand grips the splintered wood. "We're never coming back here," she whispers into the silent air. "Never."
She doesn't look back.
**
Thea is a handful. She doesn't understand why they're not moving heaven and earth to get her brother back. In all honesty, Felicity doesn't either. Diggle had said something about respecting choices and figuring out a long-term plan and Malcolm had been firm about not making a move until they had a strategy in place. She's not sure when he suddenly got a vote in their decision-making process, but somehow he has and it doesn't sit right. Thea doesn't seem to like it either.
It's odd to finally spend time with her. Thea has always been a vague blur in Felicity's mind, an interesting puzzle whose pieces never quite lined up. She owned two Birkin bags, but was in love with Roy. It was all kinds of confusing. Since they'd returned from Nandar Parbat, she and Thea had been talking every day, the two of them forming a tentative bond over how much they missed Oliver. Now that she's starting to see the measure of the girl, Felicity finds that she likes her.
Thea is still feeling her out.
"You want to do what Oliver asked, but what he asked is ridiculous."
"I know."
"My brother is kind of an idiot."
Her first impulse is to defend him, but Thea's not exactly wrong. "Based on what I've seen, that kind of goes hand in hand with being a hero."
The brunette rolls her eyes, dismissing Felicity as she walks to the fridge in the loft. "So, you're what? Some sycophant who does whatever he tells you? Oliver needs a girl with some fight in her."
Felicity tries not to let the words sting. Thea doesn't really know her. Not yet.
Malcolm Merlyn stands at the island in the kitchen humming while he chops up vegetables for their dinner. He looks completely at home and it's the creepiest thing Felicity's ever seen. Oliver wouldn't want him there. She doesn't either, but she can't exactly run him out of town with a pitchfork and an angry mob. At least not yet.
"I think Miss Smoak has more than enough fight in her to keep Oliver on his toes, Thea." He smiles at Felicity and oh man does she need to retract her previous statement. A smile being sent her way by Malcolm Merlyn is absolutely the creepiest thing she's ever seen. She'll be having nightmares for months.
She opens her mouth to argue his point because agreeing with a mass murderer is something she'll be comfortable doing never, but it would be counterproductive to do so in this case. "We can't move until we're ready. There's nowhere to run, Thea. Ra's wants his heir and Oliver's the only one that fits the bill."
Thea slams her hand against the stainless-steel door of the fridge, her eyes flashing hot. "That's not true."
It's possible that Thea's anger is a side effect of being resurrected via the world's worst in-depth spa treatment, but it's also possible that Felicity's reading into these outbursts. Maybe there's nothing more there than a sister missing her brother. "It is true, Thea. I wish that it wasn't. He'll find Oliver, or he'll come after-"
"That's not what I mean."
Malcolm Merlyn stops chopping. "Thea," he warns.
Felicity stands, feeling like something is about to change and hope blooms in her chest. "Tell me."
"Oliver isn't the only one that can fulfill the prophecy. I survived Ra's' blade too."
A joke about a souvenir t-shirt being the only thing they'd gotten for their troubles flits through Felicity's mind and she almost laughs. Not from the joke- that was terrible, it's just that this revelation is the opposite of helpful. Thea being the heir would be an even bigger nightmare. Oliver would burn down the world to stop it from happening.
Felicity shakes her head. "But you're not a man. If Ra's won't accept his own daughter as the heir, I'm pretty sure he won't accept you."
Malcolm changes his grip on the knife and for a moment Felicity feels threatened as if he's deciding whether or not he needs to kill her because of what she's just said. It's weird because it's not like Felicity is about to go telling anyone that Thea also fulfills the prophecy. "And technically, you did die from his blade. Totally flatlined. It was modern science that saved you. That really doesn't mesh with ancient prophecies."
"Yeah, well ancient prophecies are bullshit," Thea says.
"Ain't that the truth," Felicity says softly. Merlyn eyes her for a long moment and Felicity fights the urge to shiver. He finally goes back to chopping, but goosebumps continue to break out over her skin as she rises and slides on her coat.
Thea crosses to her quickly. "Please stay." There's desperation in her eyes, as if she knows that Malcolm is more devil than dad. "There's enough for all three of us and you said you'd tell me about your trips to Lian Yu."
Thea tilts her head and the movement is so like Oliver that Felicity's breath catches. "Sure."
Thea hugs her tightly. "Thank you," she whispers and that isn't like Oliver at all.
**
The new lair Felicity sets them up in is an abandoned subway tunnel that's blocked off on one side by rubble. Something feels right about starting over in the location that was central to the mission that had brought them all together in the first place. It's dark and damp and dirty as hell, but it also has high enough ceilings for a salmon ladder. She's not embarrassed to admit it's the first thing she thought of.
She redirects power from the buildings above them, and then builds a new system with computers generously provided by Palmer Technologies. And by generously provided she means stolen, but it's not like Ray would have said no if she'd asked him. It's nowhere near as flashy as the basement of Verdant, but it makes getting around the city easier and the first night Laurel and Thea start sparring on the mats behind her, Felicity smiles. If she closes her eyes, it almost feels like home.
**
Oliver returns on a Tuesday and whatever joyful reunion she'd imagined in her own mind is wiped away by the cold, calculating look in his eyes as he shoots a second arrow into Nyssa. He's definitely been brainwashed. Felicity should have learned by now not to get her hopes up.
She's never been afraid of him, though. Not once. Not back in the beginning when he was a killer and not ten minutes ago when he'd used her as a shield to escape the threat of Digg's weapon. She won't be afraid now. As soon as she fears him it's over.
He lifts his bow at Laurel and Felicity doesn't hesitate as she steps between them, her arms stretched out as if she can create a safe space on each side. "Oliver. Stop!"
Nyssa is badly wounded, the arrows through her thigh and shoulder dripping with blood. The metallic smell of it hangs in the air and good god, when had the scent become more familiar than alarming?
Laurel picks up on Felicity's cue and decides to ignore Oliver as she kneels down beside Nyssa. Her hands fumble a little as she unzips her jacket but her voice is strong as she orders the other woman to stay still. She peels away the leather and then whips off her shirt as Diggle cautiously makes his way to them, his gun in his hand but not aimed at anyone. Laurel uses her top to make a tourniquet around Nyssa's upper thigh and Diggle rests the gun on the ground before cutting off the tip of the arrow.
Nyssa curses at Oliver as Diggle lifts her. At least Felicity assumes that's what she's doing. It's in Arabic, but the sentiment seems clear enough.
When Felicity turns to fully face him she finds that Oliver hasn't moved. His bow is still taut, the arrow ready to loose and she knows the muscles in his arm must be burning. "Oliver. Put down your bow."
She can hear the crunch of gravel behind her as Diggle starts walking away and then she hears the zip of Laurel's jacket. She doesn't look back at either of them. Laurel walks towards her and Felicity shakes her head at the sound of the approaching footsteps. "Laurel, go with Digg."
"I'm not leaving you with him."
Oliver raises the bow a fraction of an inch, and Felicity knows he's calculating a way to shoot around her. It's comforting in a very strange way. He's still in there.
She turns away from him and looks at Laurel. "I'm fine. You should go."
Laurel's eyes dart back and forth between them before she nods. "Come back to us, Ollie. We need you." She spins on her heel, running off before he can respond.
They're alone on the street now, just the two of them. And it should feel scary, but it mostly feels amazing. He's alive and he's there and she can still feel the ghost of his hands on her body.
He lowers the bow. "You shouldn't have interfered."
"Surprisingly, all evidence points to the contrary. What are you doing?"
Oliver's head drops and the contrast between the defeated pose and the menacing uniform is a little bit funny. His head comes back up and she can see the coldness sliding back into place. "She still calls herself the heir. I have to kill her."
"There are a lot of things you might think you have to do, but I can tell you right now that is not one of them."
He shakes his head and it's unnerving not to be able to see the lower half of his face. At least with the mask, she could read him. Now it's all darkness.
His hand flexes tightly around the bow, the leather of his glove creaking loudly. "Next time I won't hesitate. Not even for you."
"I don't believe that for one second."
Instead of arguing he stalks off. She can't physically stop him or fight him or get him to do what she wants, but she does have a hold on him. It's the same hold he has on her and she's not afraid to use it. "I love you, Oliver."
He stops in his tracks and then turns back to face her. "Oliver Queen is dead. My name is Al Sah-him."
"You can call yourself Barney the Dinosaur for all I care. I love you. And I'm not giving up."
Oliver's head cocks to the side and somehow she knows that he's fighting a smile behind that mask. At that moment she decides- she's going to win. "You'll have to live with your actions, so don't kill anyone else if you can help it. I'll see you soon. I promise."
He walks away without comment. The moon is large and bright in the sky above and a few pigeons fly off the ledge of a building as he goes. Felicity waits until the night is still before heading in the opposite direction.
**
"Sara lives."
Felicity's head snaps up from her computer as a recently healed Nyssa seems to magically appear in the lair. It would be super cool if it also weren't super annoying. She needs Cisco to make them some sort of perimet- "Wait. What?"
"Ta-er al-Safar is alive."
"That's what I thought you said, but then I thought you couldn't have said that because Sara is dead."
"No."
It's too much to hope for. "Nyssa," she says gently. "This wasn't like the other times when Oliver just thought she was dead. I saw her. I washed the blood out of her hair with my own hands."
Nyssa stares at her for a long moment, taking in this information. Her eyes soften before she speaks. "My father has gifted me her life."
Felicity doesn't need to ask how. The world seems to spin and she slumps back heavily in her chair, which actually does start to spin. Not that the world isn't spinning too, because it is, all the time, but she can't feel that. The movement of the chair, however, is too much. She grabs the edge of her desk because if she doesn't she's going to vomit and she can't embarrass herself like that in front of Nyssa. "Why?"
"I will give him the thing he wants most in the world."
Felicity had thought that was Oliver. What more could Ra's want? "And what exactly is that?"
"The price does not matter."
Felicity nods, because what else can she do? Sara is alive. Their Sara. She picks up her phone and calls Laurel.
**
It takes almost a day to travel to Nandar Parbat, but this time when Nyssa, Diggle, Laurel, and Felicity walk up to the fortress, there isn't a throng of people waiting for them to arrive. The place feels eerily empty.
Malcolm and Thea are back on the plane, waiting to hear if they can be useful and it's odd to feel comforted by the fact that they're there. Thea hadn't wanted to stay behind and so she had come as a way to ensure Malcolm wouldn't betray them at the first opportunity. Felicity just hopes the idea won't come back to bite her in the ass. While they're apart, Malcolm could always steal Thea away to somewhere they can't find her and Felicity's pretty sure Oliver won't love her all the more if this plan goes awry.
Nyssa blends in with the dark of the landscape and Felicity takes a deep breath, the air cold in her lungs as the four of them approach the imposing doors of the fortress. She hasn't seen Oliver in weeks and she can't help the nervous excitement that fills her at the idea of him being close by. She'd shaved her legs before leaving Starling City. It was a ridiculous thing to have done, but she had to have hope. Last time she'd been there she'd been sad not to have on cuter underwear. You never knew what could happen.
Dig seems calm enough when they come to a stop, but Laurel is bristling with anxiety, her hands clenching and unclenching as she waits for something to happen. The moment Nyssa steps forward the doors creak open. It feels to Felicity as if she willed them to.
When they pass through the threshold Oliver is waiting and it takes all her strength not to run to him. His hood is pulled back and, with his now close-cropped hair and minimal stubble, he looks thinner. His eyes scan over her without emotion but he almost blanches when he sees Laurel. He turns to face Nyssa. "You shouldn't have brought them. I told you to wait."
"I am no servant awaiting your orders."
"But you will be my wife."
"I fail to understand what one has to do with the other," Nyssa snaps.
"I'm sorry, what?" Laurel asks and Felicity couldn't be more grateful to have her there because her lungs have stopped working and that is an excellent question.
Nyssa turns and faces them, her lips twisting into a smirk. "In exchange for Ta-er al-Safar's life, I have agreed to marry Al Sah-Him."
Diggle coughs lightly and Felicity almost smacks him. "Oliver?" she asks, too shaken to be ashamed of the way her voice cracks over his name.
Nyssa steps towards her, placing her hand on Felicity's shoulder. "There is no need to mourn for the loss of your love, Felicity. I will name you his consort."
Digg does more than cough this time and Oliver takes a menacing step towards him, which is ridiculous. But not more ridiculous than what Nyssa is saying.
"It is a great honor. You will help raise our children," Nyssa continues.
Laurel slaps a hand to her own forehead and turns in a circle, clearly wondering what terrible thing she'd done in her life to end up there. "Sorry to intrude on your little soap opera over there, but where exactly is my sister?"
Oliver hesitantly steps towards her and it's then that Felicity knows something is very, very wrong. "Laurel," he says, his hand wrapping around her elbow. "You shouldn't be here."
"Take me to her," Laurel says, yanking her arm from his grasp. "Now, Oliver."
**
Feral is the only word to describe her. Their Sara is now a monster trapped in a sunken pit at the center of a room that must have been some sort of amphitheater. Sara's hands are covered in blood, her fingernails ripped out by her attempts to claw away at the door and there is a chain around her neck. When she sees them watching, she howls.
Laurel goes very still, but Nyssa collapses down hard onto one of the curved stone benches. Felicity is stunned by the show of emotion. In all honesty, her first instinct is to fall apart too, but she slides her hand into Laurel's and squeezes instead. "Thea had some trouble at first," she tells her softly. "Not this much trouble, but she jumped out of the Lazarus Pit like a flying squirrel and attacked Oliver. It passed in a few days. Sara was dead a lot longer than her. She probably just needs more time."
Laurel nods and takes a deep breath, her eyes never leaving her sister. "How do I get down there?"
Oliver leads the way.
**
"I want to take her to Star Labs," Laurel announces later, when they're sitting in Nyssa's room.
"It's a good idea," Felicity says. "But we can't right now." Laurel's eyes narrow at her, but she waits for Felicity to explain. "There's some stuff going on there involving some truly bad people. We don't want Sara to fall into the wrong hands. Not again."
Laurel's eyes fill with tears. "She can't stay here, Felicity. She can't stay in that hole."
"I know."
Oliver stands guard in one corner without offering any words of comfort and it's this silence that starts really pissing Felicity off. "I can't believe you let them put her in there," she lashes out, not even attempting to hide her disappointment. He hasn't apologized once, hasn't offered up any explanation for how or why Sara had been left in the dirt and the dark. For three days she'd been in there, terrified and alone. The idea that Oliver allowed it scares the hell out of her.
He doesn't explain himself. He just turns and walks out.
Digg stops her from rising with a hand to her shoulder. "Let him go, Felicity."
She's afraid that he doesn't just mean for right now. "Keep an eye on Laurel," she tells him and Digg's hand falls away. She's out in the hallway chasing after Oliver in the blink of an eye.
"Oliver!"
He doesn't slow down.
"Oliver!" She runs, her legs shaking with anger and adrenaline as she races to his side and grabs at his arm.
He wrenches it away. "Not here."
"Fine." She falls in line beside him, refusing to shorten her strides or to let him take the lead. He's not the heir to anything in her mind and she'll be damned if she's going to scamper after him.
He pushes open the door to his room and walks in and when she shuts it behind them her anger falters. She'd come to him with wildly different intentions the last time she'd been there.
Oliver yanks off the outer leather coat of his League uniform, tossing it onto the small red sofa, and she swallows hard, refusing to take any enjoyment from the way his shirt skims over his body. "You'd better start explaining."
"The Heir to the Demon doesn't explain himself to anyone."
"Well Oliver Queen does, so start talking."
He stalks towards her, which is all hot and manly, but she's not going to focus on that. No she's going to focus on the fact that he's being a jackass. And not even a regular jackass- a huge jackass. A super huge jackass who is also slowly backing her up against the door they'd just walked through. "What are you doing?"
Her back bumps the wood and he rests a hand on either side of her, trapping her in place. He stares at her with dark eyes and she waits for them to soften, for him to show her some sort of sign that it's Oliver she's dealing with and not Al Sa-him. The coldness doesn't dissipate, though, even when he glances down at her mouth.
"I hate your hair," she whispers defiantly.
Oliver's mouth is on hers in an instant, fierce and strong as he kisses her deeply. Felicity is still pissed, but that's no reason to not kiss him back. His hands slide through her hair roughly, getting caught in some tangles as they travel but she welcomes the tugs- at least she knows she's not dreaming. She steps towards him, wrapping her own arms around his shoulders, her hands skimming his head and then roaming wherever they can reach. He's alive. He's alive and he's there and she loves him. It's enough somehow, even though there's no way it actually can be.
The need for air eventually causes Oliver's lips to still and they both breathe deeply as he tips his head forward. He rests his forehead against hers and closes his eyes. "It's good to see you," he murmurs.
Felicity couldn't agree more. It's good to see him, too.
**
Felicity wasn't joking with Ra's when she said she'd go to war to get Oliver back, but now that she really knows what she's giving up if he stays, her focus seems sharper. Her mind races with ways to take the man down. She's already got feelers out for the League's bank accounts because there's nothing she'd like more than to wipe that balance to zero. She imagines stranding the League in Nandar Parbat and smiles at how satisfying it's going to feel. She won't even leave enough cash to keep them in candles.
Right now though, she needs to bide her time and lay low. Somehow Ra's Al Guhl doesn't know he has visitors and Nyssa and Oliver both want to keep it that way.
She sits on Oliver's bed and watches him dress, fascinated by the shift in his personality once the uniform goes back on. Oliver has always been fluid, but this is crazy. It's like he has a Pavlovian response when the coat zips closed. A minute ago he was nuzzling her neck, but the warmth is gone now. He's still him. But he's not. She doesn't get it at all, but then she's never been good at compartmentalizing.
"Don't leave the room," he says gruffly.
She nods, even though she has no intention of obeying him. She needs to talk to Diggle and Laurel and she wants to check on Sara at some point.
Oliver pauses at the door, turning to look back at her and she smiles at him softly. "Don't do anything I wouldn't do."
He nods his head but she knows it's not a promise he intends to keep either.
Ten minutes later Nyssa knocks on the door. "Oliver is to be titled today. As his future bride, I am expected to be there."
"Sounds like a hoot."
"The entire League will be in attendance. It is an optimal time for me to remove Sara."
Felicity nods, a bubble of nervous excitement starting to rise. "What can I do?"
The other woman smiles.
**
Nyssa has some serious explaining to do.
That's all Felicity can think as she and Oliver stand together at the head of a room full of assassins. Ra's Al Guhl sits on a throne a few feet in front of them watching whatever is going on with interest. Felicity is wearing the bulky leather garb of Nyssa's uniform and her face is covered, her hood pulled down low and her mask pulled up high. This is not what she'd signed up for.
The priestess lady she'd stolen the knock out powder from on their last trip is chanting something and wafting a bunch of smoke over them and Felicity is pretty sure that Nyssa has lied. This doesn't really seem like an official Heir To the Demon naming ceremony. If she didn't know better, she'd say this was a wedding.
She is not going to panic.
The chanting cuts off and the lady steps in front of her. After a few seconds, Oliver shifts beside her in the silence, the leather of his own uniform creaking with the movement. They're clearly waiting for her to do something.
The lady repeats herself, which isn't helpful at all because Felicity has no idea what she's saying. She catches Ra's al Guhl's ringed hand sliding to the hilt of his sword and she swallows hard. Nyssa had told her to say something if prompted. She hopes she gets the pronunciation right.
"أنا افعل" She says quietly.
Oliver's posture shifts instantly, going from at ease to attention at the sound of her voice. He turns his body slightly towards her as the priestess addresses him, but, with the hood pulled so low, Felicity can't see anything more than his leather-clad chest.
When the priestess stops talking again, Oliver reaches over and takes Felicity's hand. "أنا افعل," he says.
The moment feels huge.
One of the priestess' minions pulls out a leather cord and starts binding her wrist together with Oliver's and oh god, this is a wedding. She totally just got married. Her mother is going to kill her.
She gulps in some air, sweating a little under all the leather as the enormity of what's going on sinks in. Her heart races in her chest as Oliver squeezes her hand gently.
She needs to calm down. It's not so bad, really. There are millions of women who'd agree to marry Oliver Queen no matter what the circumstances. Besides, it's not like the marriage is legal or anything. They hadn't had a blood test for one thing, which was kind of ridiculous on Ra's part. Surely, he wanted Oliver to start popping out some mini heirs to the demon and what if it turned out they were related or something?
Oh god. There's no way they're related, is there?
She runs down her family tree in her mind as the minion ties off the binding and decides that even though her dad's side is a bit hazy, it's safe to assume that they're not. Ra's doesn't know that, though. He's leaving an awful lot up to chance. Except, it suddenly dawns on her, he isn't, because Nyssa is the one supposed to be marrying Oliver. Ra's thinks she's Nyssa. Oh, god.
The minion pulls her and Oliver forward and when he places their clasped hands on a giant slab, Felicity's heart leaps into her throat. It all seems very ominous.
The priestess whips out a small blade and every instinct in Felicity's body starts telling her to run. Oliver must know what she's thinking because his hand slides to her wrist and tightens around it like a vice as he holds her in place. She can feel his panic over her reaction and she screws her eyes shut, thinking she'll handle it better if she can't see.
The cut, when it comes, is exactly as painful as she thinks it will be and Felicity bites her lip hard, knowing she absolutely can't scream. Her eyes open in time for her to see the knife slashing down onto Oliver's palm and then their hands are being pressed together, their blood mixing.
The priestess pulls their hands apart before sprinkling some sort of powder onto their gashes. The burn of it makes Felicity's knees buckle. The wound on her hand seems to seal in an instant, leaving a deep red scar permanently seared along her lifeline.
She's panting behind the mask now, the leather making it difficult to breathe, and she stands in a daze as Oliver reaches over to undo the cord around their wrists. The priestess takes it from him and then throws it in the air. Felicity looks up and watches as it bursts into flames.
Her hood falls back and the hall erupts into chaos.
**
Oliver grabs her hand and they run, but they don't get far.
Ra's is behind them, and then suddenly in front of them, his sword whirling as Oliver dodges and parries with his own. It's weird to see him without the bow, but it's not like he's bad with the sword.
He's just not as good.
She takes the first opportunity that presents itself to run for backup, ignoring the guilt of abandoning Oliver as she shouts for Diggle. She weaves through the maze-like halls and her relief when Dig comes flying around a corner is palpable. He has his gun out already and she reminds herself that a gun trumps a sword. At least she hopes it does.
Laurel is behind him and the three of them race back towards the sound of the fighting.
When they get back to Oliver, he's no longer fighting alone. Malcolm Merlyn and Thea are beside him, the three of them fending off attackers as they pour into the space like a swarm of bees.
Felicity circles around, feeling useless without a weapon and is just about to yank a torch from the wall when a pair of arms wrap around her.
She knows it's Ra's, because of course it is, and in her mind she travels back to the way it felt when Slade held her like that. Back then she hadn't panicked. Of course, back then she'd also had a plan.
Ra's shoves her against a wall, and she stumbles as she turns, watching in horror as his sword flies up. She's going to die. She's going to die thousands of miles from home in Nandar Parbat. Hopefully her mother will take some comfort in the fact that she'd died a married woman.
Felicity shuts her eyes, but the sound of metal hitting metal clangs loudly in front of her and her eyes fly open again.
It's possible she's dead because what she's seeing can't be real. Sara stands between her and Ra's, her escrima stick knocking the sword from his hand.
Felicity had dreamed of this type of moment more than once in her life, but it had always seemed ridiculous. She'd lost a lot of people and none of them had ever come back.
Well, Cooper. But she didn't really count him. The guy running around in her first love's skin was a totally different person than the one she had mourned. A lesser person, actually. And it wasn't like he'd come back for her.
Sara cracks her staff across Ra's' face and he whirls with the movement, completely off balance. Nyssa is behind him and she raises her sword to strike, but he uses his momentum to dodge the blow. Still, he can't get away from them.
Sara is a whirl, with long blonde hair and toned arms that haven't lost their muscle definition in death. She looks pale and wild, but it's clearly their friend. None of them had ever thought they'd see her again. Felicity is beyond glad to be wrong.
The three of them fight, and there is something so strong about Sara, so powerful that it strikes a note of fear in Felicity's chest. This is Sara, their Sara, but the Pit has also made its mark.
Oliver is beside the younger Lance sister in an instant and Felicity knows that he must be fighting a wave of emotion, pushing it down so he can focus on the fight at hand. Later, things will hit him. Later he'll let himself feel.
He attacks mercilessly, the two of them driving Ra's backward towards Nyssa, who suddenly lunges towards her father and drives her sword through his chest. Blood starts pouring out of his mouth.
It takes Felicity a moment to realize she doesn't want to see this. She turns away, only to find Diggle standing beside her. He wraps an arm around her shoulder and it's the safest she's felt in months.
The din of the fighting dies off as everyone focuses on the history being made in front of them. Diggle whispers her name and Felicity looks up. Ra's is dead on the ground, Nyssa standing over him with a smile.
Another attacker charges towards them but then falls to his knees in front of Nyssa. All around them members of the league are dropping their swords and falling down in supposition. Nyssa turns to Oliver, who lays his sword at her feet and kneels like a knight from a storybook.
Malcolm Merlyn snarls.
**
"Who knew he'd be so easy to get rid of?" Felicity asks later, stepping beside Sara and Oliver as they watch Malcolm exit the heavy doors of the fortress.
"I doubt it's the last that we'll see of him," Sara says.
Oliver nods. "He was supposed to be Ra's. We'd made a deal. He's not going to accept this."
Nyssa approaches them slowly, a bag slung over her shoulder. "I do not fear Malcolm Merlyn."
Felicity doesn't share her confidence. Malcolm scares her to the depths of her bones. Ra's, for all his brutality, never came close to inspiring the same level of fear in her. He'll be back someday and she's not looking forward to it.
Nyssa stops in front of Oliver and drops the bag at his feet. "Your time here is over, Oliver Queen. Do not return."
Oliver smiles sharply, his eyes glinting steel in the dim light. "Don't give me a reason to."
They gather up Digg, Thea, Sara, and Laurel and the six of them head to the jet. The entire walk there, Felicity fears that Malcolm will have stolen it, but when they make their way around the final bend, the plane is still sitting there waiting.
Sara hesitates as Digg and Thea make their way on board, looking back in the darkness and searching for something. Laurel takes her hand and leads her up the steps. "You'll see her again, Sara. Just come home for now." They follow Thea into the plane.
Felicity and Oliver stand in the moonlight of the desert, the wind lightly sliding around them. She smiles at him. "You ready to go home?"
Oliver tenses and looks out at the horizon. "Felicity, I need to tell you something."
She raises her newly scarred hand and shows him her palm. "We got married, right? That's what this means?"
Oliver takes a deep breath, his eyes wary as he nods. "Yes."
There's an odd rush of excitement in her, a flutter of joy, but she tamps it down quickly. They'd been given no choice- it was a marriage forced onto both of them. She wants to be with Oliver, maybe someday she'll want to be with him forever, but not like this. "Should we fix that before we go? I'm not sure we can get a quickie divorce in Vegas for a marriage made in Nandar Parbat. We didn't even get any paperwork."
Oliver shifts on his feet. "It can't be undone."
It makes sense, she supposes, except that it really doesn't. "That priestess lady can't just say a few words and dissolve it?"
Oliver crosses his arms over his chest. "No."
Felicity nods, trying to wrap her mind around it. She's married to Oliver. Once upon a time, it would have been her wildest fantasy, but now it's the most terrifying thing that's ever happened to her. "Guess we're stuck with each other then."
Oliver grimaces as he gives her a curt nod, which only serves to make anger flare in her belly. It wasn't her fault they were married. Nyssa had tricked her. "Nyssa didn't tell me what was going on, Oliver. She told me it was like your coronation or something. I'm sure none of it is legal. It doesn't have to mean anything."
Oliver reaches for her hand. "What if I want it to?"
Felicity's heart stutters in her chest as the blood rushes to her head. For a second the world doesn't make sense, but then she remembers. Oliver loves her. "Oh."
Oliver takes a step towards her, crowding in closer. "I know I have a lot to explain and that this isn't the way either of us would have wanted it to happen, but…"
Felicity nods waiting for him to continue. When he stays silent her anger surges. Oliver loves her and she loves him, but they can't stay in the same limbo they'd been living in. Things could be good, but only if he'd try.
Oliver takes a deep breath, his free hand coming up to cup her face. "Every night since the mountain, I've had the same dream. You are pleading with me not to go face Ra's and I listen to you. Sometimes the dream still ends badly; I still end up with that sword in my chest, but most of the time we escape and we're just driving. And all this seems…it seems so far away because it's just…it's the two of us."
It's a nice thought and his sincerity is clear, but it's just a dream. A fantasy. "That's not the real world though, Oliver."
Oliver's thumb strokes over her cheek. "But what if it could be?"
It would be so easy to indulge him, so easy to say yes to leaving everything behind and just driving off into the sunset. But it's not him. And it's not her, either. "Oliver, I would go anywhere with you, you have to know that, but we can't just walk away. The bad guys don't stop just because we need a break. Malcolm will-"
"Why does it have to be us? There's Laurel, and Digg, and Sara now too. There are other people who can do what we do." He leans in to brush his lips against hers. "Come away with me."
This is the moment. The moment she'd imagined for months now. Oliver deciding that he wanted her more than the mission. But what would they be without a city to save? Would they even work?
Oliver is looking at her softly, his eyes full of hope and it stuns her to see the truth. What he wants more than anything, is her.
"Where would we go?"
Oliver shakes his head. "Anywhere. I don't care, so long as you're with me."
Felicity smiles. "Then let's go."

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Episode 1 Review: Aftermath
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This Star Wars: The Bad Batch review contains spoilers.
The Bad Batch Episode 1
During the opening scene of The Bad Batch, the new animated series set during the rise of the Empire, the The Clone Wars logo burns away. At once blatant marketing and a promise of something new, the logo neatly explains what The Bad Batch is.
As Jennifer Corbett (producer and head writer) and Brad Rau (producer) said during a press junket ahead of the May 4 premiere, this show is a spiritual successor and also a direct sequel to The Clone Wars. The beginning of the new show draws from the epic scale of The Clone Wars‘ series finale (and the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy which it parallels). But while the action and heart are all there on paper, stock characters and a too-straightforward plot drag down the 70-minute premiere.
The five characters of the Bad Batch, lead by elite clone Hunter, never quite fit in. Like many other aspects of technology in Star Wars, cloning isn’t an exact science, and Clone Force 99 are “deviant” or “defective” depending on who’s talking, but they’re very good at their jobs of fighting on behalf of the Republic. But when the Republic transitions to the Empire, they’re immediately asked to start doing messier jobs, such as hunting down human rebels, whereas they’d usually fight droids. As you’d expect, the clones swap sides and, of course, end up having to fight their way out of their home base. A young girl clone named Omega helps them out, and the stage is set for the rest of the season, which will have at least 14 episodes.
Star Wars guru Dave Filoni is joined by Star Wars Resistance writer Jennifer Corbett on the creative side. Her pedigree in delivering stories for the Sequel-era animated show, and her experience in the U.S. Navy, make her an ideal guide for this war story. As military science fiction, The Bad Batch is serviceable, with the creative action and silly one-liners typical of The Clone Wars. The franchise’s approach to animation is always improving, which in this first long episode manifests mostly in impressive snow and a fun depth of field effect. The sharp corners of armor contrast nicely against soft, blurred lights in the out-of-focus backgrounds.
Stream your Star Wars favorites right here!
As far as plot goes, it’s pretty simple, leaving me to want to dig into some of the more weighty sections but not sure whether they’re actually statements. The Bad Batch see the other clones turn on the Jedi during Order 66, but for the same reason their other “defects” make them stronger, the inhibitor chips that should brainwash them according to the Emperor’s wishes don’t work. They choose to let the Jedi in their vicinity live. Future-Grand Moff Tarkin sees their rebelliousness as a good chance to prove the Clone Army is no longer effective. After all, conscripts would apparently be cheaper. But after the Batch uncover Tarkin’s true colors, they defect for good.
It’s cool to see this transition happening. What do clones become after the war? It’s a question hardcore Star Wars fans might leap to answer (they don’t all become stormtroopers, and not all stormtroopers are clones) but we haven’t seen it so directly on screen before. It’ll be nice if The Bad Batch addresses some of the practical questions around that.
Meanwhile, Tarkin’s clearly willing to shed civilian blood in a way the Jedi generals weren’t, replacing the clones bred for war with human volunteers. Like many other Star Wars stories set during the Prequel era, the Batch’s choice presents a moral decision with no right answers. The “good” choice here would be to maintain a status quo in which tens of thousands of people are born solely to fight wars with droids, which, while technically enemy soldiers, are also sapient. And while I can generally get lost in the military camaraderie fantasy here, the fact that other clones don’t like them makes what exactly the Bad Batch is fighting for even more muddled. Maybe this is about giving this squad a new cause they believe in outside of the definitely-bad Empire.
Or maybe the fact that it’s hard to tell the Republic’s policies from the Empire’s is the point. This is how the Republic fell after all: gradually.
The strongest character beats involve the characters learning to trust each other in new ways. Team leader Hunter’s superpowers are “enhanced senses,” although that isn’t really on display much. He begins to distrust team sniper Crosshair when Crosshair becomes over-eager to follow their grim mission by the book. Their arguments were most compelling before the inhibitor chip was introduced: while I know it fits with the lore, it defangs the story a little to have the main antagonist’s motivation be “he was brainwashed,” and I was a little unsure of how much the show was willing to either pin blame on him or absolve him of it. Either way, we haven’t seen the last of Crosshair.
The Bad Batch can’t even trust the Kaminoans, their creators and stewards of their beloved home. The one who shows this the best is team heavy Wrecker. His tendency to scream about blowing stuff up I generally find more annoying than funny, but toward the middle of the extended episode he adds pathos without getting away from this broad characterization. Wrecker isn’t programmed, he insists. He likes what he likes. His determination to hold on to a sense of himself as a person with free will feels like the real stakes of the show. It’s a section of the episode that quickly jumps back into goofy, fun action, but for a moment gets at something more serious and scary. Wrecker’s determination to hold on to his individuality shows exactly what Tarkin hates most about the clones. Ironically, in Tarkin’s estimation, he needs stormtroopers that can be even more tractable.
Unfortunately, the moments most important to this theme are undercut by repeating information the audience already knows. If you’ve watched The Clone Wars, you probably know about Fives’ discovery of the inhibitor chips and how Ahsoka helped Rex remove his. But moments like the one above sell the fact that the clones would be shocked to learn the truth about their new Empire.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
The brand new member of the group is Omega, a young teenage clone introduced as both audience surrogate and mystery. (She’s also a particularly noticeable example of how the Empire is whitewashing the clones — those further from the Jango Fett template have lighter skin.) She’s a big fan of the Bad Batch because, like them, she’s an altered clone. It’s implied that she’s never really been able to make friends with other humans before, so it makes sense she’d latch on to the other unique clones in her orbit. Her fondness for them sometimes reads like a script for how much the audience is supposed to be fawning over the headliners, but the show never quite really shows the world from her perspective. Nevertheless, I think it’s overall a less jarring introduction than Ahsoka’s, who became a great character as she got more involved with the rest of the saga. It’s a “wait and see” with Omega as well.
I am a bit wary the series might be hurrying to repeat the sleight-of-hand pulled with Rey, presenting a character as both a point of view and a mystery at the same time. The first two episodes provided for review hint something bigger is going on with Omega, and how grounded that thing might be might determine whether it works. It’s become a bit tiring to use “who is this character?” as a jumping-off point rather than providing an answer in the first place and building from there.
As far as connecting to other Star Wars characters we do have answers for, The Bad Batch instantly announces that this will be a cameo-heavy episode, and…that’s okay? Now that they’re not being as coy about it as Rebels was, it’s a lot of fun to see Saw Gerrera and a young Kanan Jarrus. (Even if the latter cameo does instantly contradict the Kanan backstory comic released by Marvel a few years ago.)
When the Bad Batch were introduced in The Clone Wars I found them boring, their action figure-ready powers not any more compelling than the clones and Jedi we already had. They still seem a strange choice for headliners when characters like Ahsoka are operating at the same time. More so than The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch feels like a deep cut, a completionist tale that may struggle to hold fans. While comparisons between the avuncular Batch and Omega’s relationships with Din Djarin and Grogu are inevitable, this is no The Mandalorian in terms of either content or accessibility.

Mikunology File #4: Fanmade/Derivative Characters in Vocal Android
Forget those dumb character lists I made in the first two files, I don’t have the time to make icons/portraits for everybody.
But, I figured I might as well talk about the fanmade and deriative characters that will be featured in this series/comic/story/whatever, so here we go. And remember, some portrayals of characters are made up purely for storytelling’s sake--if there wasn’t a story to any of this, I’d probably portray some of these characters differently.
Info under the cut! (WARNING: A CRAPTON OF READING.)
Truthfully, unlike the Cryptons, who have a clear-cut role in the story (which is, duh, the main characters), a lot of the fanmade characters are sort of scattered throughout the story. Some are important, most are just little background characters that help populate this wacky, futuristic world the Vocaloids live in. But I have to say, I have the Friendship is Magic approach to background characters: despite being backgrounds, they probably have their own story to tell.
So what of them?
Akita Neru & Yowane Haku: Oh, these guys. As stated on a post I made on Incorrect Vocal Android Quotes, these two start out as low-tier villains, so low-tier I actually wouldn’t categorize them as such considering other characters fill the title of “villain” so much better. Why? Story-wise, these two do little more than make halfhearted attempts at antagonizing Miku and the Cryptons, and even then, it’s mostly Neru’s personal envy. That’s why I don’t consider it a spoiler that Neru and Haku end up joining the heroes--though Haku’s role gets expanded later on as we learn more about her creators.
Calne Ca/Calcium: Calcium, surprisingly enough, would have counted as a oneshot villain if it weren’t for the fact she’s just terribly lonely. Calcium, in reference to Deino’s concept, is supposed to be a robotic exoskeleton--and in this story, a robotic exoskeleton developed by a miscellaneous company for some shady reasons. She gains a Miku skin (thus becoming Calne Ca) after coming to idolize Miku’s music and deeds, and later on gets the more humanlike skin from Bacterial Contamination after Miku befriends her.
Zatsune Miku: As mentioned on Incorrect Vocal Android as well, Zatsune is definitely one of the more textbook supervillains in Sapporo. Created by a mysterious underground company, Zatsune’s mission is basically Kill & Replace--assassinate Miku, get all her glory and fame, maybe cause a robot uprising in the process, who knows. Thing is, curiously enough Zatsune’s specific function is more of an attack droid, not a singing one, and while at first she’s a bit more quirky and hammy she gets MUCH more serious when you see her...other design (aka her original one, if you’ve been to the Fanloid Wiki).
Dell Honne: Last I checked, I mentioned Dell quite a few times on Incorrect Vocal Android as well, and well...he’s not at all a nice guy, and arguably a worse villain than Zatsune depending on your perspective. While in retrospect I realize Dell was supposed to be a “Yowane Len”, so to speak, he’s actually a human character who is supposed to be Haku’s creator. He runs the large technology company Honne Corporation (a corporation I’ll go into more detail about later since I plan on making a post about companies in this story), and initially created Haku based on Miku’s success, and subsequently junked her when Haku failed to perform. But he’s not just a backstory character--he gets up to some evil plans later.
Hagane Miku: OK, OK. I’ll be honest that my portrayal of Hagane is a bit confusing, but I’ll do my best to be straight about it. (The problem with Miku’s derivatives is that I had to explain why she has so many lookalikes.) To start, I will say that I didn’t initially intend Hagane to be her own person in this verse--in one of the old drafts of this plotline, Hagane was simply a death metal alter ego Miku took on when people wanted her to be edgier. But in this current plotline, there are two Haganes, based on the H-side and M-side versions the Haganeloids were supposed to have.
Hagane Type-H: The Type H Haganes are a line of attack droids sent to destroy Sapporo while simultaneously wrecking Miku’s reputation, supposedly created by a faction of Honne Corp. (though it’s unconfirmed). The thing is about the H-Haganes is that unlike the Cryptons, or heck, unlike Zatsune, they are mindless--they simply follow the commands whoever made them gives them. Which, to Miku and crew, makes them that much more dangerous.
Hagane Type-M: This is where the more confusing part comes. See, as more stuff happens, the Vocaloids end up inspiring a LOT of people, and not only do more singers pop up because of them, more heroes do, too! That said, it’s not uncommon for some of said new heroes to base their image on the Vocaloids themselves--and thus, M-Type Hagane Miku is a vigilante fighting bad guys on the lower deck in a punk-rock Miku image. Who she really is, no one knows, but she definitely helps the group when the H-Types show up.
Sakine Meiko: OK, this one is purely technical but I felt I should clear up some things in case someone tries to point it out--Sakine Meiko and the Meiko that features as a main character (MEIKO) are one and the same. Sakine as the derivative she’s known as was Meiko’s persona when she used to be a teen idol, being a one-hit wonder before retiring so Meiko could study science. Hence, that’s why I give Meiko the surname of “Sakine” even as an adult.
Shion Family: Yes, they exist here, too. The Shion Family is, as expected, Kaito’s crazy family of brothers (and one sister) that he occasionally goes to visit, or that occasionally visit him and cause havoc. I won’t go into detail about each one, but the family is pretty much made up of (in order of birth): Akaito (red), Kikaito (yellow), Kaito himself (blue), Mokaito (brown), Taito (purple), Nigaito (green), Kaiko, and finally Kageito (who I’ll go more into next). All this plus their unnamed foster father who I need to make. Zeito, as much as I wanted to include him, isn’t here simply because I haven’t figured out a role for him yet (as Kageito kind of has the role people would expect Zeito to have, knowing Zatsune).
Kageito Shion: You know how above I say that not all portrayals in Vocal Android are reflective of my image of the character, and that if this were ust a story-less random thing characters would be portrayed differently? This is definitely one of those times. Kageito, in this story, is Zatsune’s right-hand man and most loyal lackey, being a calm and sweet boy that was transformed into a devious and crazed monster after being possessed by a mysterious shadow being. He directly antagonizes Miku and the Kagamines numerous times but is routinely defeated, and goes into hiding with Zatsune sometime later (whom he’s infatuated with, by the way). Whether Miku actually brings him back to his original self is up in the air.
Hatsune Mikuo, Kagamine Rinto, and Kagamine Lenka: I was slightly iffy about adding genderbends in simply because it’d be hard to explain how they exist (because, like I said before, I’m trying to explain why there’s so many Mikus running around), but I gave in eventually. Kind of along the lines of how Haku was developed, the genderbends were made as knockoffs--created by a couple of random scientists who wanted a piece of the action. Mikuo, Rinto, and Lenka don’t have the powers that Miku and crew have, though, but they befriend them just the same. S’all good.
Kagami Kawaiine: Now we’re getting to the silly ones. Kagami, unlike most of the characters above, is simply a silly background character that pops up now and again to annoy absolutely everyone around her. She’s a human girl that tries to imitate Miku and interrupts random events by being a weeb.
Sasayaki Nerune: Another background character, and actually my OWN character--she’s a narcoleptic android that works random odd jobs and appears from time to time doing something weird. I just think it’s fun to have her cameo occasionally.
Hachune Miku, Tako Luka, Shiteyanyo and Larval Rin: The weird little mascots are characters that simply pop in now and again to do whatever, with Tako Luka officially being Luka’s pet in this story. Hachune shows up very randomly as a sort of a visual joke, but also offers Miku rather assertive advice (thus leading Miku to believe Hachune is simply a figment of her imagination). Shiteyanyo and Larval Rin I haven’t decided on yet, but maybe they’ll show up somewhere.
Mikudayo: Mikudayo, in all essence, is just a little running gag that exists solely to spook the hell out of the other characters. While I imagine it originated at a convention/concert kind of place (mirroring how it came to be in real life), it just stalks Miku relentlessly for some reason. Miku isn’t too sure it’s even just a human in a suit, either.
OK so that was a LOT of writing I just did. But yep, those are the plans for those characters, at least. And just so everyone knows, I’m totally open to suggestions on other derivatives as characters (I am NOT taking ocs, but if there’s a more notable fanmade I haven’t heard of then I’d love to include them). If you got to the end of this post, then I wholly appreciate your endurance of my weird ideas and your interest.

KH:358/2 Days Manga
Tumblr media
*Spoiler Free
I’ve been collecting a lot of KH manga recently, and I finally managed to get the last book I needed for the 358/2 Days series.  As an avid lover of the game, I am aware of its many weaknesses.  It is very stagnant, drawn out, and lonely.  A lot of what you do is busy work, which makes sense in context but it makes for a very boring game.  So I’m always eager to find alternate ways to tell this game’s amazing, beautiful story.
In 2013, when KH 1.5 was released, I was more excited for the 358 movie than anything else.  Though the HD cutscenes were gorgeous, it really fell short in terms of storytelling.  Boss fights were alluded to at best.  Scenes were strung together with on-screen text blocks.  Side-characters were practically nonexistent (no pun intended!).  It took my favorite thing about the game and trivialized it.  A recent patch in KH 1.5+2.5 on PS4 added a more elaborate scene with the final boss, so that the final moments of the movie have context.  But I still don’t think the 358/2 Days movie is a good medium for the emotion and impact of the game.  It just isn’t... right.  It’s just not all there.
So I went into the five-book manga with skepticism.  I had already read the KH1 and Chain of Memories manga, so I knew what to expect; they are silly and over the top. I came out of them thinking: “These were fun to read, but they definitely don’t replace the games.” They were supplemental.  And with how dramatic and desperate the 358 game is compared to the upbeat optimism of KH1 and CoM, I didn’t think it would translate well to manga.
But wow.  I was wrong.
These books were great.  They were impactful and suspenseful and dramatic, but they were also silly and funny and they had the cutest non-canon art on the opening page!  It addresses things you didn’t even know you wanted.  And I know that it’s technically not canon, but it fills in gaps in the series in such casual, unobtrusive ways.  For example, one of the end-of-book comics is about a dusk that cleans up the castle, and... ugh, it’s just great.
My first point of comparison is the Disney worlds.  As a member of the Organization, you aren’t supposed to be seen or influence the worlds.  In the game, they handle this by dropping you in a Disney world with an objective that doesn’t really culminate in anything.  A means to an end.  In the manga, you spend a few chapters in each world only once.  Roxas always has another Organization member with him and their interactions help shape Roxas’s beliefs and identity.  It’s a much better way of handling the “can’t impact the Disney worlds” trope.
Next is the characters.  One of the things I really loved about the game was how it fleshed out all the Organization members through small interactions and missions.  It made them side-characters instead of background noise.  The movie really failed at highlighting this, but the manga took it above and beyond. Each organization member had quirks and personality, from Xaldin’s interest in nutritional health to Saïx’s irritation when people know words he doesn’t.  Demyx is my favorite!  And though these traits aren’t exactly “canon”, they fill in the characters in interesting and believable ways.  Like in Chain of Memories manga, we learned that Lexaeus likes to solve puzzles.  In the game, we don’t learn anything about him or Zexion at all!  It’s nice to be able to imagine these characters as real people, and the manga nails that perfectly.
My biggest worry that the manga would be too silly to address serious issues, and I wasn’t completely wrong.  The manga is very silly.  But they had this weird way of interweaving silly happy scenes with a panel of a character’s expression that really brings gravity and tone to the moment.  There are a lot of “secrets” being kept and you can plainly see the weight of those secrets.  But even more surprisingly, I found that the silly moments made me enjoy this story even more!  358 has always been about friendship and belonging, but in the game most of what you see is eating ice cream and some nice gestures.  In the manga, the characters joke around.  They do stupid stuff together.  Their friendship is so much richer because of the silly stuff.  You know what’s at risk.  You know how important it is.
The end was very impactful.  I couldn’t put the fifth book down.  I knew what was going to happen and I had to keep reading anyway.  There is very little humor in that last volume.  They sort of “simplify” the final battle the same way the CoM manga did, but I didn’t mind it as much in this.  It really changes the tone of the fight.  In the game, the final battle is about survival, but in the manga it’s almost... a plea.  Begging.  I don’t know which version I like more, but I definitely appreciate the manga’s portrayal.  I can’t even explain this in words.
There were a couple non-canon things that I loved.  Oathkeeper happening was amazing.  The Moogle shop was great!  Roxas going to “level up” was funny.  They really play into it being a video game and I like that.  Chain of Memories did the same thing with the vending machine at the end.  I'm also glad that the manga not only used the “memorable quotes” from 358, but kept them mostly word for word.
One big difference between the manga and the game: the manga really focuses on Axel’s perspective.  You learn things a lot earlier than you do in the game.  I thought this sort of ruined the suspense and mystery, but at the same time I like that they tell you this big “secret” even before the main characters learn about it.  It builds a lot of tension and you really appreciate Axel in a way that you don’t in the game.
There was one omission from the manga that I thought was very important: what Xigbar sees.  This is a lead in for a later game.  The cutscene is in Day 353 and can be watched here.
As I’ve said in my Beginner’s Guide, I wholeheartedly recommend this manga.  Actually, it’s the only manga I consider a suitable replacement for the game.  It isn’t entirely canon - especially the more silly parts - but it covers everything important that you need to know (with one exception).  If the game is too much for you, please consider the KH:358/2 Days manga required reading for the series.

Title: Fallen Stars
Chapters 3.5
Summary: A star has fallen! After missing the chance 14 years ago the likelihood to capture it has finally came around again! But how will this story end? In a bloody disaster? Or in a sweet romance? What will happen to the star! What will happen to your story when both your paths are intertwined? There’s so much more to this mystery!
Warning: May contain blood, death, swearing, killing & violence
Chapters: 1  2 3
Note: Some ideas and concepts are inspired by the movie “Star Dust” I recommend watching it to get a brief idea of the Au, but everything is not going to be the same.
*Gif belongs to the respective owner.
“Lyra! Phoenix! A star! A star has just fallen! Quick we need to do the location spell.” Carra rushed through the doors running over to here sisters, who were looking at the different potions on the dusty black shelf.
“Where’s the amethyst stone!” Settling down the oddly crystallize bottles, they scattered urgently looking for the arrowhead shaped stone.
“Right here you idiots!” Phoenix yelled from the other side on their room, rushing in direction of the round table.
“Quickly” Phoenix laid out the map and settled the crystal into the center. The three sisters closed their eyes joining their hands together chanting their ancient magical words. All at once bringing their right hand over the map and crystal on the table. The amethyst crystal with the clear orb in the middle slightly shook before it began to move slowly to the names of villages within Windlesin. The three sisters watched in anticipation until it unexpectedly stopped on the destined village.
“Kyoui”
“What a peculiar little village.” Phoenix looked over the map once again absorbing the area around the village.
“Mark the one who’s is fitting for this hunt” A spark from the clear orb sprung out to the three sisters’ hand. The palm of Carra’s hand began to burn, marking the one who is the most suited. She flinched grasping her wrist while she watched in amusement as the symbol formed on her palm. “Oh how wonderful that our little star has fallen. It’s been too long sisters.”
“Well yeah after Lyra lost the other one. She even had Uva, Shine, Naz, and Lacy all killed like 14 years? 7 centuries ago? Ugh, it’s been too long since a star has fallen. I’m starting to not remember how long it has been since the previous one has fell from the heavens.”
“It wasn’t my fault, besides less to share now and I remember that star dying.”
“Shhh” Carra tossed the map off the table and placed her right palm with the symbol on of top it. This method scorched a mark onto the wooden surface, notifying the amount of time they will have to know when the fallen star will be at its brightest still.
“The triple moon symbol.”
“Which means that since today is the full moon I only have about 3 weeks until the 2nd crescent will match the mark.” The symbol slowly burned itself off the table leaving the smooth surface it was. The mark that once originally on Carra was now replaced by the first triple moon symbol. The full moon in the center of her right palm. Carra turned towards Lyra wickedly smiling.
“Lyra be a saint and fetch me the clear quartz dagger.”
“A pure crystal for a star’s pure heart” Lyra placed her hands above her heart displaying the most precious part of the star.
“Oh, sister. It’ll hurt them a little less too Hehehahaaha”
-
“That light.” He stopped cleaning the knife, watching the light running across the dark sky.
“A falling star! Ouuhh~ how interesting!” The younger one went to the window watching the line of light reaching it’s final impact and then shooting a bright beam straight up as if it was calling for attention.
“NoOo, everyone will be out for it’s heart now and I don't want to be stuck of the middle of it. Let’s just enjoy our life as it is now okay?” Henry turned away from his younger brother and began cleaning his weapon again.
“Awww come on Henry. A star doesn’t fall every night ya know! Who knows when the next one will fall! Besides! The clan is asleep hehe. It’ll be easier too, since we’re the only ones who knows about the star falling.” The younger one tugged at the older one’s sleeve.
“I think we’ve lived long enough to stop preying and waiting on helpless stars.” The emotionless response caused the younger brother to throw a mini tantrum spitting unlawful threats.
“WE ARE GETTING THAT STAR AND IF I HAVE TO KILL YOU THEN SO BE IT.” PD Twirled his dagger in his hands before he gripped it, indicating to his older brother how serious he meant by his words.
“uH ? Calm your tits PD it’s not that serious.”
“If it’s not that serious then it shouldn’t be a problem to hunt a little o’l silly star. Why does it matter if people are also searching for the star now too? It’ll be boring if it was just us! The more to kill makes it more fun~” PD Threw his dagger at the closet door. Marks from previous throws engraved into the wood.
*sigh* “I’m not doing all the work then.” Henry leaned himself against the sink. All his life all he has known was his clan. A normal simple life without the weapons; without the orders and secret missions; without the killing only seemed like a distance unrealistic dream. Nothing has been easy. Parents dead and older brother leaving. PD is too mentally damaged for Henry to consider him a ordinary kid.
“Oh~ Yay~ hehe, how fun!~ ” PD spun around in excitement. Star hunting. No sort of rules. Kill or be killed.
A/N: Well this is short... LIKE I SAID It’s technically chapter 3. Idk but these characters are important. I feel like if I spoil you all too much with posting, I’ll have no more ideas to write and my blog would die lmao. I’m kinda stressed b/c school rn. It’s only the 4th week and everything is crazy. I’m slacking on reading for 2 of my classes, but my professors are chill, I’m only worried for when it comes to testing ahhh. Also I want to get HS OT11 done so I’ll be able to edit them and maybe start on another au around the same time?? Like idk if you noticed but I like to introduce characters or put reference that will lead to the next AU lmao (spoiler) and HEy! since I posted this, it means Character info data will be released as well! Until next time this has been Milky  °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°

2019 Toyota 86 TRD First Drive: Fair ’n‘ Balanced?
Toyota Racing Development has prepared a special TRD edition of the 2019 Toyota 86. Don’t get excited, though: The upgrades are visual and chassis-related only. Sigh.
The Subaru BRZ/Scion FR-S/Toyota 86 has never held me in its thrall the way it does most of my colleagues. Sure, I love its purity of mission, its rear-drive chassis dynamics, and its available manual transmission. But I’ve never been crazy about its air-cooled-Beetle boxer engine noise, the auditory assault of which makes the 14.8-to-15.9-second quarter-mile time seem seconds longer. My reaction has always been: “Wake me when the turbo/supercharger/displacement bump arrives.”
Spoiler Alert
It ain’t comin’. I’ve grilled everybody from product planners to chief engineers to dyno-cell janitors (I may have made that one up), trying to get to the root of why the H-E-double-toothpicks none of the three brands to market this car has ever seen fit to add a single milligram of vitamin-H to a platform that can clearly handle it. The aftermarket has amply demonstrated the engine structure to be sturdy enough to withstand turbocharging, supercharging, or performance-enhancing chips so why does the factory cede those profits to the aftermarket?
What gets me here is that the experts I’ve questioned generally offer some variation on the old saw “it’s perfectly balanced now, and adding power threatens to upset that delicate balance.” Well, you know what also upsets the balance? Adding even more chassis grip and poise.
Chassis Mods
That’s mostly what the TRD trim level delivers for a $3,635 premium over a GT manual (the TRD package can’t be had with the even pokier automatic). Working from the road surface up, the base car’s 215/45R17 Michelin Primacy HP or Bridgestone Turanza EL400-02 tires are replaced by a much more aggressive set of 215/40R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4s on new 7.5 x 18–inch rims. Then there’s a nice set of Brembo brakes, upsized from 11.6-inch front/11.4-inch rear to 12.8/12.4. Capping off the dynamic enhancements is a set of quicker-reacting Sachs dampers all around. (Springs and bars remain unchanged.)
Model T Color Palette
You can have any color you want, as long as it’s Raven, albeit accented by a TRD tricolor graphic flourish on the flanks. The package also includes a full TRD body kit, consisting of front bumper, side sills, rear bumper/diffuser, and spoiler. Oh, and there’s also a cat-back TRD exhaust that includes brushed stainless steel tips. It manages not to sound fart-canny.
The Drive
I first sample the 86 TRD on some twisty West Virginia country lanes near Summit Point Motorsports Park and verify that, yep, it’s even tougher to generate wheelspin in the dry now. Corner grip is impressive, even in a few corners dampened by mild flooding that followed excessive local rains earlier in the week. Over a stretch with some little humps and jumps, the Sachs dampers demonstrate remarkable poise and comfy landings that the stock suspension struggles to match in a back-to-back drive. The GT model’s Primacy tires give up their grip at much lower cornering speeds, but a widening line can occasionally be tightened with the throttle in a sharp bend. This doesn’t really happen much with the PS4s.
On Track
Finally I strap into a bright blue 86 GT for a hot-lapping session of the tight, technical Summit Point circuit and start to see what everybody loves about this car. With no oncoming traffic or laws to flout, this thing is just big, silly, slip-n-slide fun. Switch on Track mode to dismiss much of the stability control system’s oversight, and you can easily summon as much or as little oversteer as you like with power, with a Finnish flick, with judicious trail-braking, or with any combination of the above.
Then I strap into the TRD version and suddenly find myself working way harder to conjure drifts and slides. Pitch it hard into an off-camber corner, and, sure, it’ll let go, but it latches back on way quicker. Yes, my lap times probably dropped a bit. So did the corners of my mouth.
Bottom Line
I have yet to devise a reliable method of measuring power-to-grip ratio, but the seat of my pants suggests that 205 hp/17-inch Primacy probably equates to roughly 280 hp/18-inch Pilot Sport 4. So if you’re scheming to scrape together the $33,350 it takes to get one of the 1,418 TRDs Toyota plans to build, I recommend you budget another $3,402 plus installation for a GReddy T518Z turbo kit.
