Seeing Meliodas destroy the horn of cernunos is such a badass moment to me. The way he responds to her taunting with direct action and violence rather than his usual merciful beating around the bush. My favorite Mel moments are when he is using his silly goofy little guy façade and suddenly has to drop it. This is when we see a glimpse of who he was when leading the 10 commandments: arrogant, powerful, and constantly full of rage

heyy im thinking of joining ao3 with my works, but they’re not fanfics, they’re original writings. do you think it would still get accepted/viewed by folks? bc from what i see on tumblr it sounds like ao3 is mostly engaged with fanfic, i could be wrong but thats what it sounds like lol

Ohhh, original works on Ao3 my beloved.

Okay so there are two general baskets of Original Works, and one is "everything original people are putting on Ao3", and one is the one that people do in exchanges, where people sign up to write relationships like "Teen Who Is Turning Into A Werewolf & Her Sister" or "Retired General/His Arranged Marriage Spouse Who Was Formerly The Enemy General".

In my experience people broadly speaking do not really find the stuff in the first basket on Ao3. I'm in the tag right now and a lot of these works have very low hits. The stuff in the Second basket, which is things tagged interestingly enough that they catch people's eye, with a fun high concept— maybe? Some of these works clearly have a following!

Okay so there are 286,322 works in the Original Works tag, with something like over a hundred works posted a day, and there are not hundreds of people hovering in the tag looking for whatever gets posted, because honestly, like half of it is people posting vent fic. The spectrum of quality varies WILDLY, like it does in any big tag, and there is a lot of stuff that is people just starting out. Also a lot of it is people writing niche porn. Original Work is a very horny tag. So you have to find a way to rise into people's vision.

And this HAS been done— I'm subscribed to two people on Ao3 specifically because I loved their original works, I have an original work that's sitting at 200 kudos, there's an 86k novel I read in chapter updates last year that updated on fridays where I was like "ohhh it's friday it's jewel day" for ages and it's sitting at almost 2k kudos. I have read a published novel that started as an OW on Ao3, though I can't find the title now. But again, this is the stuff that rises to the top of the 286k fics in the tag, this is not everything. So how do you rise to the top and get seen?

My first advice is luring people over from another source. So if you already have a following from other fic, some people might follow you to original works? And then if it's GOOD, they'll stick around. This is the equivalent of "this romance author I liked is trying thrillers— I might try it?" So not everybody is gonna follow you, but some might. And if you already have people following your blog where you talk about your writing on Tumblr, you can say "check it out on Ao3", and people will head on over!

And then my second advice is that if you tag and do the summary interestingly, people might click when they see you. But you have like 2 seconds to catch people's attention, so how do you maximize that?

A) if do your relationship in an interesting way that tells people something, that helps. "Original Male Character/Original Male Character" just tells me it's M/M. "Supervillain Working As A Barista/Flirty Superhero With A Caffeine Addiction" tells me a LOT more. If you can cram your whole story concept into 100 words there, you can do a lot to hook people.

B) same as you do for any fic on Ao3— your summary and tags written in an interesting way. This is the equivalent of having interesting cover copy in a bookstore— why would people want to pick up your story? Certainly not if you say "this is kinda bad but please read it", they'll put it right back. But if you say "Alice is a woman on the run from the mafia with a dark secret— she's slowly turning into a vampire. Can she find a community, learn how to feed herself without endangering her soul, and maybe even find a girlfriend or two before her past catches up with her?" Well then people know what your story is about and are much more interested.

C) you don't want to become that person with a wall of tags nobody reads, but if you do tag the right tags so that you show up in OTHER tags people might be searching: if I find your fic when I'm looking for "asexual character" or "alternate universe - high school" or "meet-cute" or "fluff and angst" or "open/bittersweet ending", or alternately, a lot of really specific porn tags, and you've made your summary and relationship and tags interesting, I might click through.

And then my third advice is to do exchanges. A LOT of exchanges do include an Original Works component, and if you can write short stories, you can lure people into reading your work because you're writing "Lonely God & Baby Abandoned On Their Altar" or Lighthouse Keeper/Siren Trying To Wreck Ships" or something, because people DO click around exchanges reading the original works because they're fun and there aren't 286 of them, there are 12 of them in an exchange. If you like writing for a challenge, you can get people to read your work if you write it for an event.

So I'm not an expert in either original works or getting my work seen, I am not good at search engine optimization, but that is some stuff I have seen other people doing. Good luck!

it truly does jokerfy me a bit how overlooked they are and have always been. like this is sort of a deep cut so idk how relatable it is, but i remember i would be at the mall in middle school at dELiA*s (who remember!! lmao) looking at their wall of band shirts seeing like the killers, kings of leon, etc thinking shit like, "i dont understand why spoons not up here or why i dont hear them on the radio and people dont know who im talking about when i mention them, but all thats true of these bands. but spoon is better than all these bands is the thing. with the same amount of appeal imo" ...like maybe in a less sophisticated and more annoying middle schooler way, but that sentiment. and i still feel that way! and i get that that is justifiably said of soooo many groups and musicians, truly, across all genres. art and creative fields in general really. but with spoon i think about it especially not just because im particularly sentimental about their work, but also bc i truly feel like they have a really broad appeal. i mean their songs end up on the soundtracks of all sorts of films and tv episodes bc theyre good, they capture a mood, they just have that oomph that a scene needs. but theyre just not very well known. a blessing and a curse i figure, feels like theyll never get the respect and clout theyve rightfully earned for their artistry which is a bit crazymaking but otoh theres allll sorts of downsides and indignities to fame 🥄

exactly like they really do have a Commercial Appeal (pun intended) and they truly do have a wide spread of genres covered, and covered well. it’s interesting they never cracked outside of their scene given they really well could have given the rise of indie rock/pop/general alternative adjacent scene in the main charts. and as you mentioned, they did have a lot of boosts in media that actually helped to catapult a lot of their contemporaries, it just seemed they never managed to bubble above the surface.

tangent after the cut sorry spoon-anon but i have A LOT on my mind. hopefully u stick w me thru this and get where i’m coming from (tho im sure u do)

however, what i mean w cult-status is like in reference to some of their contemporaries like the national, interpol and a lot of the NY scene when i think about it – sort of being viewed as these cult like bands with an actual document of their history straight from the go in some cases.

as u would know spoon has this unique story to them that makes them perfect fodder for this for anybody else reading below the cut: band releases a well received debut album on a cult label (matador), leaves them for a major to release a lauded follow up that does terribly sales wise and gets thrown to the dogs like meat straight afterwards due to horrible mismanagement but somehow defy that and go on to continue to release some of the most critically acclaimed albums of the last 20 years despite the fact they may as well had just given the fuck up.

if that had happened to any of those NY-adjacent bands i feel the history would have been covered so much different if that makes sense? like they’d have somebody down there in the trenches with the band covering this shit for a low quality documentary that’d be like the gospel for fans. imagine seeing footage of britt curled up at the times square hotel pay phones he would call up his lawyer on during his 15 minute breaks at citibank lol trying to shop rough copies of girls can tell to labels because he was that hellbent on getting it released. you can only imagine it because it doesn’t exist!! if it was any other critically acclaimed blog era-band it probably would exist!! hell any kind of proper document of any of their post-sneaks albums would have been so fucking good and so deserved. i feel all we really know about them is merely just crumbs in general as a band imo and a lot of good preservation just doesn’t seem to exist at all. like yeah we have the decent oral history of gimme fiction but i kinda want that for the whole band more thoroughly? i like knowing things! i want some sort of meet me in the bathroom kind of coverage of them. i want them to be respected for the band that they are because they are just that good and utterly destroy their contemporaries in terms of output AND consistent critical acclaim. kinda mad at myself for putting them in the back of my mind for almost decade smh 😔

still i just feel they don’t get even close to enough love or respect from people although their contemporaries are regarded as darlings and have devout groups of fans and that stuff. a good majority of them probably have no fucking idea who spoon are even though the band themselves have probably done something with them or have heard of the band in passing/other media. with all that considered, it’s all very strange to me how they’ve just ended up being some band from austin. maybe that’s just how it was meant to be. i’m not sure.

Supernatural i think the shows actually kinda old, but do i care? not one bit im also only at the end of the fourth season, and ive got ten(ish) more to go sooo- (if you know what the show is ignore this, but if not read on: its essentially about these two brothers (sam and dean) who fight supernatural beings title lol -- things like demons, ghosts, monsters, etc basically anything from old mythology from all cultures) anyway- love love love this show bc 1. characters are so good, and like well developed (continuing to develop throughout the show as well) like omg- 2. plot is literally amazing like wth, theres usually a bunch of plot twists 'n stuff, so it keeps you hooked alotta the time and 3. it might be dramatic, but it has its funny moments too (also the fandom is still like *aggressively* active with all the ships-) favourite characters so far- dean, older brother, loves food (like me sometimes), and the reason for most of the jokes in the show (as in he makes them, and ppl make some abt him) honestly hes just really funny and i love him platonically second favourite (he might actually be my first but-) castiel, he doesnt appear till the start of season 4 but its worth the wait, i think ppl find him annoying at first but hes so pretty and i aggresively simp for him platonically, hes also kinda dry but that makes it funnier- (fun fact, ppl ship dean and castiel together -- destiel -- so its funny that they're my two favourite characters-)

Merlin show got cancelled but used to air on BBC, its set in medieval times (king arthur, is legit a character but hes not king yet), so its got magic, sword fighting, the whole thing love the show bc again characters are amazing, plot is amazing, and while its dramatic it has its funny moments (also even though the show ended like ten years ago, fandom is still active and i love that)my favourite character is probably gwaine, i cant explain why he just is (if you watch the show you'll understand)

finally (but *definitely* not least) Haikyuu- idk why i think its mainly just bc the eng dub makes me smile every time i watch one of its episodes- and also probably bc i simp for so many of the characters (shhh-) also recently learnt im a bokuto kinnie do with that what you will *major* sakusa simp, he's just so pretty and i cant handle it, and idc if people think hes distant and moody and stuff bc i literally love him(you can probably tell that by the amount of kiyoomi content i reblog)- i also simp a lot for suna, just bc have u seen him hes pretty as sooo- its also bc i find him funny and i just love him ok? Ik you said you dont care about concert tickets but I need to say that it wasn’t larries that were complaining about free tickets being given away last night or the night before, it was hardcore harries being mad that they weren’t in LA so they couldn’t get them or they paid insane amount of money for theirs, so it is unfair to insinuate some larries who are wishing failure upon hshq were making things up or seeing things that weren’t there.

Yeah that photo was taken minutes before the show but forum being full obviously don’t tell the whole story behind it. There is this kinda big twitter account helping fans with concert tickets, even they said that what is happening with LA residency -low priced, unsold and free tickets- hasn’t happened with any other of his residencies so far even when ticketmaster released unsold tickets right before the concert or sold them outside of the arenas. Calling all his forum dates sold-out is a marketing line underlining the high demand he has had, but it was literally not the case with night 1 and 2. Ofc hshq won’t wanna disturb that illusion of H being so demanded that you get to be a part of an exclusive club if you attend his shows (why do ppl think harries are looking down on Louis’ prices bc they think it is not something elite and show the quality of his crowds or smth lol) bc that is the most alluring part of being a het H fan, so they gave out free tickets and lowered the prices. Btw there were still unsold tickets on websites when he was on stage, so 🙇🏻‍♀️

As I’ve been setting up my new clean template hoods, I remembered one of my favorite things to do with the Goths. I think Darren is an all around better guy than Don (obv) and I try to play him less as a creepy r/nice-guy type fella, and more like the kinda dude that’s been friends with Cassandra and Mary-Sue for a long time, but repressed his feelings for a long time because he didn’t want to ruin his friendship with Cassie. I somewhat begrudgingly follow along with the scripted events for the Goth household, just so I can throw a wedding party, invite the Calientes, get Cassie to catch Don greeting them all schmaltzy-like, realize he’s full of shit, then run to Darren for support and be like “screw it SOMEONE has to get married, do you wanna get engaged?” and woo yay Don and the Calientes are no match for the Goth family.

kinda personal ask but i was wondering (as an artist also posting their art on twt) how do you not have likes/rts amount to how you measure ur art? it gets kinda hard and ive been feeling self conscious about it lately so i was wondering if this is a normal thing or? either way i rlly respect you as an artist and i love the stuff you draw zelda or not!

i think its incredibly easy to get pulled into thinking this way, and i do it way more often than i would like to :’)  like, objectively you know that likes/rt dont reflect the value of your art, but its still disheartening when you pull low numbers.. i think it’s because it feels almost as though your art was ignored or disregarded by people

but ultimately, social media is just... incredibly fickle n shallow lol. it will always favor content thats easy to digest/relate to. and thats fine! thats kind of what its built for. but it does make it very hard to get your foot in the door as an artist. esp if u don’t do much fanart :’) people don’t generally want to expend the energy it takes to engage with art, especially art thats more personal, or just like... “weird”. that's not even getting into the whole issue of being stuck in obscurity until someone with a larger following decides to share your stuff lol

all this to say.. like.. of course likes/rt dont reflect quality. if they're anything, they're more like.. like how views on a youtube video functions, i guess? if a video has more views, that generally means that: The Algorithm showed it to more people; that it has a flashy/intriguing thumbnail; and probably most importantly, that the content it advertises can appeal to a large demographic. its not a measure of its quality at all. i've watched super high quality niche documentaries and video essays etc., but because they have less mass appeal, they tend to sit below the 50k view threshold. its not a reflection of your value at all, its just a reflection of how well you can cater to what twitter as an..entity wants.

and i think i am pretty good at this! not cuz im such a phenomenal amazing artist, or cuz i try and pander or something, but because the way i draw and the things i enjoy drawing tend to line up pretty well with "what twitter wants”. in this sense im very lucky! i know many artists who genuinely ARE phenomenal and amazing but they might only draw, like, fanart of an obscure videogame from the early 2000s. doesnt make them less good, but you can see why they are less popular.

thats not to say that doing fanart will launch u into popularity or whatever tho. i mean, i posted fanart alongside OC on this blog since like 2016, and only in the past 1-2 years have i gotten much clout. i used to get super excited if any of my posts broke 20 notes. sometimes u just have to draw for yourself, improve your skills at your own pace and maybe hope someday people take notice of you i guess. but still, try to keep in mind that likes/rts dont really.. mean much. i think the thing they're most useful for is purely visibility, which can be useful in trying to get work.... SOMETIMES. (besides that, they're just good at making people irrationally distrust or hate you assuming youre some sort of.. i dont know.. rich industry pro and not a broke teenager lol)

ohh for sure pledis is still a trash company but even they decided to do bus routes and ads for their 10th year. i really do hope that something does come out of this and more information is revealed, esp if kfans are starting to say stuff now. it just pains me that it might not change anything, unless maybe they speak up themselves.

have you seen the state of the albums fans are getting too?? theyre getting ones that are missing cds or photocards, and there have been many with ripped pages in the middle (which happen to all be aron's pages) its clear this is probably due to the lack of quality control during manufacturing, especially if this album is as rushed as it seems. they most likely skipped a whole part of product checking to get them out faster.

ahh i didnt even think about that ;;; i hope theyre able to find a good contract because thats the least they deserve. i find it so difficult to wish them well and hope for their future because OF COURSE im going to support them, but the feeling of injustice just overshadows it and it just hurts. yea i think their staff team got dissolved, their performance director posted a goodbye to the practice rooms. its so sad that a whole team of people lost their job too

yup lmao like even pledis had stuff planned so that's why i can't blame them as much for all the terrible stuff going down because seems like their staff (the ones working on nu'est stuff ofc) was also caught up in this mess and didn't know what was happening either

with kfans making more noise about it now i really hope we get some answers but i won't get my hopes up for it since it's scary for anyone closely involved to speak out against a big corporation like that and honestly, maybe they don't even know why this happened either but at this point i'd be happy to accept a "i didn't expect this to be the last album" or anything along those lines just for closure that we were not just crazily assuming things this whole time (even though i think it's pretty much a fact now with that album behinds video though it wasn't a straight forward statement from anyone)

what??? noooo i had no idea that albums were arriving damaged?!!! everything about this album is so low quality, poorly managed, and rushed from the design portion to now even the manufacturing causing damaged and defected albums? they really did not pay attention at all omg

also a minor thing but i'm very peeved that the cd itself for this album is in a paper envelope...it looks so thin on video but since i don't have it on me i don't know if it is actually easily torn paper quality or not but like are you poor or something???? it's a hard cover book style album which usually wouldn't come with separate cd like that because there is always a place for the cd to be held, even worse because this entire album has zero design so the envelope is just plain white with the same 1234567890 logo that they've slapped on literally everything

the quality is severely lacking...while looking for the torn albums i see a lot of fans complaining about how much empty space the photobook has like blank pages or just really tiny pictures for no reason with the rest of the page just being white??? like i understand you're (whoever worked on this album) trying to pass this on as "minimalism" but absolutely no aesthetic eye, my sis filmed her unboxing it for me and she pointed it out right away bc it just looked so bad and done with no intention

and also my judgement might be skewed here since i've mainly only bought day6 albums which relatively cheap for some reason lol but this nu'est album seemed to be on the more expensive side of the price scale right? the effort is not justifying that price

letting someone go without prior notice is really shitty and on top of that they did this to them while kinda letting them believe that nu'est would continue so the members probably weren't thinking to look into other companies or contracts at all...absolutely no protection or care for their artists whatsoever

yes me too!! i really hope they manage to negotiate good contracts and we get to hear from the ones that left soon, whether it's a signing with another company or just their plans about what they're going to pursue or if they're just going to rest a while, just anything! it's also getting closer to their enlistment time which really spooks me because it's really hard to get over that 2 year hurdle without a group with a sturdy fanbase or a good company to come back to, they have a very short amount of time to cement themselves and their brand as a soloist before that time which is hard

of course i will also support all the members in whatever endeavors they choose to go on, but going from group to solo is a hard transition (speaking solely if they stay in music as a singer) and i know many loves will also continue to support all members but with almost every boy group to soloist transition, the numbers do not lie and they tend to fall off for solo activities (everyone has their own biases and also not everyone will have the monetary means to physically support like that so it's normal for this to happen...), but it's so much worse if it was a decision forced onto you rather than one you've made yourself so i worry for them right now...the way this was handled is really unfair, they seriously gave them no time at all ugh

that's so terrible :((( dismissing their whole team too...instead of getting better, this situation truly just gets worse and worse the more you hear about it, i truly feel for the staff who work hard by nu'est side...none of them deserved this, everyone involved in this mess is so unfortunate and i wish them all the best going forward

I  have  a  lot  of  messy  ADHD  thoughts  right  now  & I’m  gonna  talk  about  em.  So  like !  I  really  dislike  William’s  fanon  ??  These  thoughts  happen  when  I  go  looking  for  content   & wind  up  in  old  parts  of  the  fandom  like  from  DeviantArt  lol. Like  he  was  always  an  unpopular/overlooked  character  which  is  totally  understandable  despite  his  massive  role  in  the  background  of  things.  But  like,  I  really  don’t  feel  like  what  little  fanon  exists,   or  what  fanon  I  know  of  that  was  the  thing  “”in  my  day”,”  so  to  speak,  is  anything  close  to  who  he  is.

Because  I  do  actually  play  him  so  differently  to  the  “fanon”,  which  is  what  I  would  assume  to  be  people’s  expectations  of  him.  In  my  eyes.  To  me  he’s  not  a  real  villain.  More  an  anti-villain  if  anything.  I  know  a  lot  people  have  a  terribly  low  opinion  of  him  due  to  said  fanon  but  again,  I  interpret  him  very  differently.

I  understand  kinda  WHY  people  see  him  the  way  they  do  though  of  course.  In  all  his  existence,  game  wise  he's  had  maybe  2-3  minutes  screen  time  NOT  as  a  mutated  monster  & only  a  handful  of  canonly  spoken  lines  as  a  result.  A  lot  of  ideas  of  him  come  from  his  apparent  all  consuming  “obsession”  with  G,  which  is  kind  of  emphasised  by  the  original  re2  but  you  know  what  I’m  calling  it ?  Bad  writing.  Not  that  I  bash  the  original  game  at  all  like  man  I  love  it   & I  mean  it  was  1998 !  Like,  early  RE  games  weren't  exactly  known  for  having  fantastic  scripts  or  even  decent  voice  acting,  point  being. Which  is  why  I  do  love  so  much  of  the  remake  because  I  think  it  really  brought  to  life  what  was  always  meant  to  be.  Despite  the  some  things  I  don’t  use  or  care  much  for.  I  digress  though. My  take  on  William  is  not  really  villainous.  Its  perhaps  true  that  he’s  not  entirely  a  good  person  but  hes  not  exactly  a  bad  guy  either.   I  do  find  William  to  be  supremely  sympathetic  just  personally.  Perhaps  one  of  the  most  sympathetic  characters  in  the  series,  again  just  for  me  personally.

I  mean  when  we  really  think  of  it  William  was  only  a  little  kid  when  he  was  consumed  by  Umbrella.  He  was  heavily  groomed  by  Umbrella.  He  spent  most  of  his  life  with  Umbrella  &  we  know  what  horrible,  horrible  garbage  Umbrella  was.  Its  perfectly  understandable  for  William  to  be  less  than  a  good  person  with  that  in  mind  but  I  don’t  think  that  attribute  is  inherent  to  him.  It  was  simply  ingrained  into  him  by  his  time  with  Umbrella,  groomed  to  absorb  their  twisted  ideals  &  ethics,  which  was  explicitly  the  point  of  the  Umbrella  training  facility  that  William  attended  as  a  kid,  not  to  mention  the  bizarre  hyper  competitive  atmosphere  among  umbrella’s  staff.  ( something  encouraged  by  the  higher  ups.  Everything  Umbrella  did  was  so,  so  very  insidious  on  so  many  levels  & it  was  all  very  calculated  & intentional )

I  could  even  make  a  case  for  Wesker  being  at  large  like  he  is  for  the  same  reasons,  but  those  are  other  posts.

Among  all  the  Umbrella  based  characters  though,  William  to  me  remains  the  most  human  &  the  most  “normal”  for  lack  of  a  better  way  to  describe  it  for  me.  He  could  hardly  help  what  he  was,  most  of  the “”villainous””  aspects  of  him  were  implanted  into  him.  Being  with  Umbrella  had  naturally  warped  his  morals   &   desensitised  him  to  so  much.   A  thing  that  strikes  me  about   William  though  is  his  love  for  his  family  &  thats  one  of  the  major  things  that  popular  fanon  goofs  on,  as  well  as  his  most  major  redeeming  quality.  William  wasn’t  a  bad  husband  or  a  bad  father  per say.  He  loved  his  wife  &  he  loved  his  daughter  to  such  an  extent  that  they  were  obvious  driving  factors  in  trying  to  escape  Umbrella  which  was  MASSIVE  given  what  Umbrella  was  &   how  engrained  in  William  it  was.  He  was  neglectful  but  in  no  way  out  of  malice.  Despite  his  flaws   & his  mistakes,  I  can  never  see  him  as  ever  wanting  to  hurt  them,  only  the  opposite,  which  I  think  is  displayed  canonly.

Which  is  another  thing  I  found  interesting  about  William.  I  don’t  interpret  him  as  neurotypical  in  any  way  which  I  draw  from  the  few  “descriptions”  of  him  /  his  behaviours  from  other  people.  What  I  interpret  from  them  feels  very. . .  Relatable  & I  really  do  think  William  is  something  like  ADHD  or  Autistic  or  somewhere  in  those  areas,  maybe  be. (  I’ve  been  portraying  him  very  much  as  the  latter ). My  most  major  source  of  reference  for  him  comes  from  Wesker’s  report  2  which  is  one  of  the  few  glances  into  his  character  we  actually  get.  Wesker  has  great  admiration  for  William  &  notes  William  is  quite  humble  &  unassuming,  if  not  a  little  odd.  In  the  novels,  if  I  remember  right,  Chief  Irons  notes  that  he  likes  William  for  these  qualities  as  well. &  I  think  both  of  those  could  easily  explain  a  lot  about  William  &  not  only  his  “””obsession”””  with  his  work  but  the  descriptions  of  him  essentially  coming  across  as  very  space-y  &  distant / non-interactive  with  things/people  that  aren't  part  of  his  major  interests.  He  was  able  to  easily  work  for  24  hours  straight  &  forget  important  things  like  his  wife’s  birthday.  Not  for  lack  of  caring  but  because  that's  where  his  head  is.  It’s  doubtful  in  the  times  when  William  did  crazy  overtime  that  he  even  knew  how  much  he  had  actually  done.  Annette  writes  a  letter  to  him  apparently  expressing  this  &  I  think  William  might  have  been  surprised  by  how  long  it  had  actually  been  since  he’d  properly  been  home  with  her  &  Sherry.  This  wasn’t  him  avoiding  his  family  in  any  way.  It  wasn’t  intentional.  Annette  seems  to  have  to  remind  William  how  to  function  outside  of  living.

Further,  people  might  have  interpreted  William  being  stuck  up/scornful  of  others/having  some  kind  of  superiority  complex,  which  adds  to  this  “douchebag  villain”  aesthetic,  but  I  don’t  think  that's  true  because  again,  Wesker’s  report  also  noted  that  William  wasn’t  actually  boastful.  He  was  obviously  proud  of  himself  & his  achievements,  which  he  had  every  right  to  be,  but  it  was  not  a  point  of  any  kind  of  actual  conceit  for  him.  Wesker  notes  that  William  doesn’t  boast  about  himself,  but  that  he  was  deeply  troubled  by  the  extreme  fuss  surrounding  Alexia. Another  part  of  the  fanon’s  poor  interpretation  of  him  I  think  comes  from  the  same  source  surrounding  the  Alexia  ordeal.  I’ve  read  all  the  different  translations  & what  I  practically  note  about  the  whole  ordeal  is  not  that  William  hated  Alexia  because  he  was  a  conceited  jealous  brat.  He  didn’t  hate  her  just  because  she  existed.  His  jealousy  came  from  a  very  understandable  place,  IMO. A  lot  of  William’s  anger/jealousy  didn’t  come  from  her  just  existing,  it  wasn’t  as  malicious  &  immature  as  that,  though  it  could  easily  come  across  that  way,  however  it  came  largely  from  the  way  he  was  treated  by  his  colleagues  as  a  result  of  her.  Its  pretty  well  noted  by  Wesker  & something  he  himself  took  similar  annoyance  with.  It  was  the  way  the  other  researchers  not  only  ENDLESSLY  praised  Alexia  but  the  way  they  began  to  deject  William  as  a  result.  William’s  problem  wasn’t  just  simple,  childish  jealousy,  it  was  hurt.  She  wasn’t  just  being  praised,  he  was  being  scorned.

Which  would  have  been  VERY  hard  for  William  for  so  many  reasons.  Not  just  because  he  was  proud  of  his  position & his  achievements  up  until  then  but  because  literally  Umbrella  &  his  workplace  was  his  whole  world.  Also  keeping  in  mind  how  young  William  still  was  at  the  time.  He  was  only  19.  I  don’t  cringe  at  19  yr  old  William  being  angry  about  10  yr  old  Alexia  as  much  as  I  cringe  at  shitty  30-40+  year  old   men  who  put  these  kids  on  these  ridiculously  high  pedestals  in  the  first  place   &  actively  pitted  them  against  each  other.  They  enjoyed  making  competition  &  animosity  between  researchers.  With  William &  Alexia  &  even  Albert  being  so  young  they  seemed  to  particularly  target  them  due  to  their  own  jealousies  &  the  expected  vulnerabilities  of  people  that  age.  Not  to  mention  failing  Umbrella  could  actually  mean  death  &  not  just  rejection. 

Another  thing  of  note  being  that  its  canonly  mentioned  there  was  attempts  to  flame  a  “”vicious””  rivalry  between  William  & Albert  that  seemed  to  mostly  fail.  Rather,  in  the  toxic  ass  environment  of  Umbrella  with  so  many  douchey  old  men,  William  & Albert  were  just  drawn  closer  together.  I  also  like  how  Wesker  noted  William   &   him  seemed  to   be  subject  of  a  lot  of  “dislike”  which  I  think  was  pretty  obviously  due  to  their  ages &  their  relative  status. &  I  also  think  that  feeds  into  the  Alexia  problem.  Though  William  wasn’t  exactly  a  stranger  to  a  bit  of  workplace  animosity,  in  the  past  it  didn’t  effect  him  so  much  because  the  truth  was  that  he  &  Wesker  had  achieved  things  as  teenagers  that  the  old  assholes  around  them  hadn’t  managed  to  achieve  in  their  whole  careers.  Very  water  off  a  ducks  back  at  the  time.  That  &  the  fact  he  didn’t  pay  too  much  attention  to  anyone  else  anyway  but  the  Alexia  issue  forced  him  to  pay  attention  &  gave  all  those  jerky  older  colleagues  actual  ammunition  to  use  against  him. This  is  a  lot  more  serious  than  I  think  the  fandom  comprehends  because  William  was  essentially  a  “survivor”  of  Umbrellas  training  facility  as  a  chid.  

The  executive  training  programme  in  the  Arkley  mountains  where  William  started  out  was  basically  an  Umbrella-focused  boarding  school  where  young  minds  were  picked  by  Umbrella  to  become  their  top  researches. The  problem  was  they  were  also  using  the  kids  as  research  material.  Doctor  Marcus  routinely  tricked  students  into  infecting  themselves  so  he  could  torture  them  as  part  of  his  experiments  into  the  T-virus.  Students  became  ill  &  went  missing  all  the  time. How  William  &  Wesker  made  it  out  of  there  is  never  really  touched  on.  We’re  left  to  imagine  that  its  because  they  remained  top  of  their  classes  &  Dr. Marcus  took  a  weird  liking  to  them  but  then  then  it  might  have  just  been  luck  given  Dr. Marcus  was  also  noted  as  a  miserable  old  bastard  who  didn’t  seem  to  like  anyone  very  much  east  of  all  gifted  kids  who  could  have  rivalled  him.  There  is  also  an  implication  that  Spencer  convinced  Wesker  &  Birkin  to  steal  a  sample  of  Marcus  T  virus  in  order  for  them  to  gradate  &  become  top  researchers  at  the  Arkley  facility  &  this  is  what  I  work  with. 

This  was  normal  for  Umbrella,  though.  They  routinely  made  research  subjects  out  of  their  researchers.  if  someone  was  “accidently”  infected  the  protocol  wasn’t  really  to  help  them  but  to  cover  it  up   &  use  them  as  a  fresh  specimen.  The  real  fear  William  must  have  felt  in  losing  value  to  Umbrella  was  very  well  founded  &  understandable.  In  my  Headcanon  William  truly  believes  he  wouldn’t  have  escaped  the  training  programme  if  it  wasn’t  for  Wesker  &  his  insistence  in  including  him  in  Spencer’s  plan  to  steal  a  T  virus sample.  But  moving  on  or  moving  back  to  talking  about  Sherry  &  Annette.  I  think  yeah,  obviously  one  of  the  major  motivators  in  the  attempted  divergence  from  Umbrella  for  him  was  them.  I’m  pretty  sure  theres  a  note  or  a  journal  entry  from  Annette  or  William  himself  somewhere  that  implies  a  desire  to  be  better  parents  &  a  more  conventional  family.  I  know  the  general  idea  is  that  William  wanted  to  leave  Umbrella  STRICTLY  because  they  wouldn’t  promote  him  but  I  think  not  only  was  this  something  he   &  Annette  had  spoken  about  at  length  &  were  already  considering  doing  but  the  whole  no  promotion  thing  kinda  played  on  WIlliam’s  constantly  pre-existing  fear  that  they  were  gonna  do  him  just  like  they  did  Marcus,  so  while  it  was  def  a  factor  its  not  the  only  thing. 

Not  only  is  that  a  scary  thought  in  general  but  Marcus  had  no  family,  William  did.  A  family  he  expressed  being  incredibly  concerned  for  because  he  knew  Umbrella  wouldn’t  hesitate  to  outright  eliminate  them  or,   an  even  greater  fear,  turn  them  into  someone’s  test  subjects.  So  while  not  being  promoted  was  like  “the  straw  that  broke  the  camels  back”   at  that  particular  time,   it  was  in  no  way  the  only  reason  for  William’s  attempt  to  leave,  &  even  if  he  had  been  promoted,  again,  it  seems  him  &  Annette  did  have  plans/aspirations  to  move  away  from  Umbrella  anyway.  I  think  this  seed  was  planted  in  William  as  early  as  the  assassination  of  Marcus.  I  mean,  though  William  didn’t  have  a  lot  of  love  for  his  mentor  it  was  still  daunting  to  think  you  could  be  so  much  to  the  company  &  still  get  thrown  away  like  that.  It  should  also  be  noted  that  I  think  the  reason  William’s  promotion  fell  through  was  because  William’s  plans  for  G  was  not  ultimately  to  weaponize  it.

Thus  I  don’t  exactly  portray  William  as  having  that  all  consuming  obsession  with  G.  It  was  more  that  he  just  didn’t  want  to  flush  his  entire  life’s  work  down  the  drain  &  being  so  close  to  finishing  the  project  just  made  “leaving”  Umbrella  without  it  feel  absolutely  undoable.  Actually,  it  would  be  literally  undoable  because  he  would  have  no  bargaining  chip  to  assure  his  families  safety. So  ultimately  I  think  William  is  very  sympathetic  despite  his  faults.  His  behaviours   &  motives,  I  think  are  very  understandable  &   are  so  much  more  than  the  idea  of  him  just  being  some  crazy  douche  bag  obsessed  with  a  virus  he  discovered.  I  believe  infecting  himself  with  G-  although  insanely  ill-advised,  was  understandable  considering  this  was  a  wild,  impulsive  move  made  during  a  time  of  high  emotion/stress  &  in  the  face  of  death  being  the  one  other  option. William  didn’t  think  too  hard  about  his  wife  or  his  daughter  when  he  infected  himself  but  once  again  this  wasn’t  out  of  any  malice  toward  them.  He  wouldn’t  have  had  the  TIME  to  give  any  in  depth  thought  to  his  actions.  He  did  it  out  of  desperation  in  the  thought  it  would  save  him  & in  tern  save  his  work  &  family.  That's  NOT  how  it  went  down,  none  of  William’s  attempts  to  do  these  things  went  how  they  were  intended  to  go  &  that's  the  tragedy  of  it  but  overall  his  intentions  were  pretty  good   & in  his  mind  I  think  it  was  really  a  case  of  ends  justifying  the  means  for  William.  Again, G  was  also  important  to  William  not  because  of  this  wacky  obsession  with  the  research  as  such  but  because  it  was  also  his  literal  bargaining  chip.  Prior  to  the  outbreak  William  didn’t  have  any  reason  to  be  offered  Asylum  from  Umbrella  without  it  &  Umbrella’s  really  not  a  place  you  just  “quit”  from  as  detailed. I  don’t  think  William’s  position  as  a  father  is  considered  very  much,  if  ever  by  the  fanon  but  I  do  think  its  an  important  thing  that  does/can/will  affect  his  thoughts/opinions/behaviours  in  a  lot  of  ways.  I  think  essentially  William  had  a  lot  more. . . Maturity  &  maybe  more  of  a  sense  of  like. . .  Decency   to  him,  so  to  speak,  than  what  we  got  to  see  canonly   &  what  the  fanon  gives  him ? Like  I  know  as  far  as  baddies  in  the  RE  series  go  the  bar  is  sooo  low  given  they’re  mostly  just  apeshit  but  I  think  William  deserves  some  props  for  being  one  of  the  few  who  wasn't  just  an  egotistical  fuck  who  wanted  to  control  the  world.   Back  to  William  &  Annette’s  intentions  for  G:  they  did  not  see  it  as  a  weapon,  they  wanted  to  utilise  it  essentially  for  medical  reasons. My  final  thought  is  that  I  think  G3′s  design  is  kind of  reminiscent  of  this  in  some  way.  There  is  a  clear  likeness,  at  least  ‘shape’  wise,  to  an  angel  in  G3.  I  do  kinda  think  this  is  intentional  &  is  kind  of  symbolic  of  William’s  apparently  good  intentions  turning  out  so  evil/wrong.  This  monster  that  has  the  shape  of  an  angel,  humanoid  with  what  looks  to  be  enormous  wings  sprouting  from  its  back,  while  the  creature  itself  is  so  demonic   &  twisted,  brings  to  mind  the  saying  “the  road  to  hell  is  paved  with  good  intentions.” To  me  that's  somewhat  an  overarching  theme  with  William.  Because  again  I  don’t  believe  he  was  truly  evil  & out  of  all  the  Umbrella  based  folks  William  +  his  wife  are  the  most  “normal’ /  human.  He  doesn’t  appear  to  have  any  particular  megalomaniac,  sadism,  narcissism   or  hatred  of  humanity.  For  William  he  wasn’t  in  it  for  those  things,  he  wasn’t  in  it  for  some  warped  shot  at  world  conquest,  he  was  just  there  for  the  science  itself  & for  the  idea  &  fact  that  the  work  he  was  doing  could  be  used  for  good  as  much  as  it  could  for  evil.  William’s  interest  in  the  B.O.W’s  wasn’t  using  them  to  wipe  people  out,  it  was  simply  collecting  valuable  data  that  could  obviously  be  used  for  other  things  such  as  defence,  control,  prevention  etc.  Just  like  Wesker  noted,  researching  B.O.W’s  & researching  B.O.W  counter  measures  are  the  same  research  & William  very  much  has  that  mentality.

The  whole,  weapons  aren't  evil,  evil  is  all  up  to  the  hands  that  wield  them.  Well  that's  really  in  line  with  William’s  thoughts  /  opinions  on  science  &  his  work. To  him  its  a  grey  area  &  its  necessary  because  it  was  better  to  know  the  things  they  learned  in  developing  the  B.O.Ws  than  it  was  to  not  know  & have  someone  else  learn  it  instead.  It  was  work  SOMEONE  had  to  do  &  work  someone  WOULD  do  regardless  to  any  moral  complaints.  But  yeah,  again,  I  think  its  pretty  apparent  if  not  directly  canon  that  William  & Annette  didn’t  intend  G  to  be  a  weapon,  they  were  focusing  on  the  medical  properties  of  G.  G  could  have  been  utilised  medicinally  to  help  fight  illness / diseases  +  improve  humans  lifespan  &  mortality.  ( this  is  also  why  Spencer  Initially  approved  the  project  as  he  was  old  &  sick  &  thought  G  could  be  ultimately  useful  to  him )

Prosciutto opens his pack of cigarettes to grab one. "You're still calling me that nickname?" 

"Yea and I think it’s pretty fitting actually."

You lay in front of your laptop watching the man through the screen. He places the cigarette between his lips, choosing not to acknowledge your statement. "You're more energetic than usual."

"Well, I'm always happy to see you, but it's been awhile since you’ve done a private session with me..."

From what i saw of him in the game's intro he seemed like he was gonna be a generic bully character but in the anime he seems like a gentle giant who's super adorable and just gets embarassed when people know it. And he's the butt of 'fat people are stupid' type jokes which makes me really sympathetic to the poor guy! Like everyone says he's dumb but he got a perfect score on that test and it was just a yokai that made him fail! However his english voice reaaaaaly sucks. Its that dumb trope of 'the fat bully has a voice like a middle aged man somehow' except also its cleaarly a really bad impression done by someone who reaaaaally cant do low pitched voices at all. Like it sounds like an actual kid trying to act like an adult! Which i guess is in-character, but it also just sounds.. Really bad...

HOLY SHIT I LOVE THE DANCING PLANT YOKAI, THEYRE SO FUCKIN CUTE!!! And i like how theyre a trio like the nosirs, but their designs are more different with cute colours and such. And i love that the only reason theyre a problem is that they give you super dance skills even at really inaopropriate times like the middle of a test. CANT STOP THE RHYTHM! It was hilarious too when nate was chasing after them but in a dance style XD

Also Manjimutt's next story arc has generally become a bit more interesting? Its a great escape parody and so far has been actually quite funny with no gross horrid sexual assault nonsense like usual-

Okay wtf?? Sudddenly its an episode about Manjimutt meeting a teddy bear yokai and he's like his new son and they have a montage of happiness?? And Manjimutt is like "im gonna buy you a nice bowtie when we get out" and then lil sam GRAPHICALLY DIES! They show him being crushed between a set of gears and his head popping and all the stuffing spilling out as manjimutt cries. And then the EVEN MORE MEANSPIRITED ENDING is that lil sam wasnt real at all, manjimutt was just going so mad from the loneliness of solitary confinement that he took a regular teddy bear and started using it as a puppet son to ease his pain AND REALLY BELIEVED IT BECAUSE HE WAS JUST THAT MENTALLY ILL! Ha ha comedy..? Seriously why is this show so cruel to this man when he hasnt done anything to deserve it, and when he actually acts horrible to women its played as just a harmless joke?? Prioritiesssss

Also im REALLY starting to get super sad for poor komasan whos now trapped in a web of lies that he's not really anxious and is totally dealing with city life perfectly okay, because he wants his brother to love him and THINKS HE WONT IF HE EVER FAILS AT ANYTHING EVER. Gahhh poor guyyyy pleaaase stop making him get even more embarassed in every new episode!

Also wtf nate calling hungramps the "most unfashionable yokai" wow ur bein a big asshole today i guess. Also Fancy Hungramps was awesome, thanks for roasting the fuck out of nate and peacing out on a surfboard, thats the Biggest Mood while watching this show lol.

Huh apparantly in the anime when youre inspirited by Dimmy you get a creepy as fuck three dots cartoon ghost face THATS WEIRD! But dimmy is still super cute and shyly adorbabble :3 I'm surprised his voice was even kinda close to my headcanon! "oh...i dont wanna be a bother..i'll just be over here..." POOR BABBU! And i feel really sad for Dazzabel too! I mean it seems implied that she's so obsessed with fashion because she's depressed about being a skeleton and wants to look more humanlike? Dimmy defeats her just by bumping into her and knocking her bow off and then she looks in horror at herself. Thats so fuckin sad!!! Dazzabel you're beautiful no matter what!!

Okay how do manjimutt's episodes keep getting even more sadistic!!! He almost manages to escape with a group of other prisoners and he has a deep inner monologue about them being his only friends. And then in the last five seconds it reveals that they hated him all along and also he accidentally ruins his escape at the last moment by being unable to resist howling at the moon.

That actually raises an interesting point! I like how they keep subtly implying that the legends of werewolves were really manjimutts all along. Thats an interesting idea, that different mythological creatures from around the world are all the same monster just reinterpreted.

WTF why is Sproink the only boss yokai that ever got his own episode? What made them pick him of all people? Also why did they decide to give him an australian accent? It makes him really cute tho??? And my new favourite character is THAT GRANDPA! Sproink threatens the safety of the town by turning everyone's bathwater up too hot, and gets defeated by The Most Badass Old Man Ever who goes "yeah great! Turn it up higher!" and watches the poor bastard boil. Holy shit true hero of the series!

Also i continue to adore Babblong and continue to say WTF I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR HIS STORIES!!
