it is my humble yet passionate belief that Deltarune takes place in 2009, here is my take on the lightners’ phones/devices

The first is a silver and blue Nokia flip phone. It has a number pad and arrow keys, and a selfie camera on the front. Handwritten next to it is text in bullet points that reads “Kris’ flip phone. Nokia 6290 from 2006. Passed down from Asriel. Only has the number pad so they don’t text much and when they do it’s short messages. Nokia Arabic ringtone. Contains a frightening amount of low quality images.”

The second is a black iPod nano. The top right corner is heavily cracked and covers half the screen and so is the area around the circular select wheel, yet the device is still intact. Text next to it reads “Susie’s iPod Nano. iPod Nano Gen. 1 from 2005. Cracked as hell, 2 GB memory full. Still kickin’. Will work for another decade until she leaves it in her pocket and it goes through the washing machine (which has happened once already).”

The third is a Samsung slide phone. The top is sliver and the screen covers most of the front of the device, with answer, hang up, and a center button on the bottom. A black QWERTY keyboard slides out from under it. Attached to the phone are three charms, a smiling star, a Christmas tree, and a candy cane. Text next to it reads “Noelle’s slide phone. Samsung M900 Moment from 2009. Keyboard so she texts a lot and uses creative emoticons. Lots of charms. Stickers on the back.”

The fourth is an iPod touch. It has a dark blue case and has visible fingerprints on the touchscreen. Text next to it reads “Berdly’s iPod Touch. iPod Touch Gen. 2 from 2008. Crusty grody case. Greasy fingerprints (feather-prints??). Sometimes he plays games on there like solitaire, sudoku, fruit ninja when it comes out in 2010. Mostly uses it for YouTube (where he watches The Guild).”

The fifth is a black BlackBerry phone with a black and bright pink checkered case. The phone has a screen on the top half and a QWERTY keyboard on the lower half. Answer and hang up buttons and a silver center button are in the middle. Text next to it reads “Catti’s BlackBerry. BlackBerry Curve 8330 from 2007. Texts a lot. Lots of music on there. Beloved device, will not be replaced until it dies many years later.” End ID.]

i know the hc that meta knight is super overprotective and doesn't really trust the kumazaki trio + marx, but like. what if it was bandana dee instead. bandee is the one that hisses like a cat whenever magolor is in vicinity and shoots death glares at susie when kirby's not looking. and they are terrified of him.

in this au (and as i write ralsei in my canon always lol) the biggest thing that puts pressure on ralsei's life is the prophecy--it says a human, a monster, and a prince from the dark, and because it is a prophecy, and it is fate, is HAS to be true, and ralsei, as a darkner, a group of people who literally exist below the lightners, is charged with bringing this prophecy into fruition. she has spent her entire life ALONE, with nothing but this prophecy for comfort, saying that one day, ONE DAY, she'll get through this and she'll have friends. but yknow, that weighs on a person! its heavy and terrible and she has contorted herself to fit what fate tells her she must be.

and then for noelle, the big thing putting pressure on her? her dead siblings (dess and kris. kris isnt technically her sibling but yknow for ease of language thats what i use. also we know they arent dead but noelle and the rest dont). with their deaths means noelle is now the baby of the family, a family that is shaped by this great gaping grief noelle cannot comprehend, because when dess and kris died she was young enough she barely remembers them beyond like, maybe half-formed memories but she isnt sure if those are real or just what people have told her. shes expected to be grieving her dead siblings but really she just sort of. hates them a little bit. for going off and dying and now her mom and toriel are super overprotective of her, and she knows its her fault asriel never left to go to college and hasnt even left hometown, and its just. its rough.

so both noelle and ralsei have these Huge things that have defined their lives that neither of them want, but. too bad! WHICH LEADS TO EVEN MORE PARALLELS. slash foils lol.

because when it comes to the prophecy? noelle isnt supposed to be in it!!! while this au is sort of a roleswap in that noelle takes kris's place its not a roleswap in Any Other Way, which means, yeah, the prophecy is still supposed to be a human. and noelle, uh, isnt that! but she goes around and helps close dark worlds and is part of the delta warriors anyways, which is, for ralsei, this like, really scary point.

cause ralsei? adores noelle!! thats her best friend!!! ralsei doesnt know if she has a crush on noelle or wants to be noelle! noelle just does what she WANTS. she bucks against the pressures her family puts on her. she dives into the dark despite the fact that this world was never made for her. shes TRANS. shes a GIRL, and she can just DO THAT, and ralsei looks at her, and just. wants. in every sense of the word.

because noelle has all these things put on her like ralsei does--but noelle gets to slip out of them. noelle gets to be a person.

and ralsei, non-person, darkner: she doesnt.

she never will.

I'm seriously going to need to rewatch The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel soon, because that final season? FUCKING. FANTASTIC.

after so many disappointments when it comes to female characters' arcs this show (that I enjoyed but wouldn't have claimed among my favourites) has truly delivered for Midge and Susie, and Midge&Susie, beyond my expectations.

so, yeah, I'll definitely want to watch it again and see how everything holds up in light of this.

WFZine Q&A! (Part 2)

More @wfzine promo Q&A! :D I’ve gone on about my writing habits here a few times, haha, but yeah—it took me quite a while to figure out I need an outline, and I experimented with a whole bunch of different approaches to outlining/drafting/tracking my progress before I worked out the system I use these days. A++, do recommend trying multiple techniques and seeing which pieces of which methods work for you, and which don’t! Anyway, yeah, an extra couple paragraphs of nattering under the cut. :’D

Q: Do you have any pre-writing habits (i.e. putting on music that suits the mood, jotting down a rough outline, moodboards etc.)?

"Rough outline" is probably too generous a name for what I do :'D but yeah, I definitely need lots of notes before I start actually drafting a story! I tend to have a kernel of an idea in mind right from the beginning, and then I basically just word-vomit at myself until the shape of the whole story has started to come into focus for me—then I clean that up and turn it into something closer to an actual outline.

And when it's time to write for real, I 100% need some kind of sound to help me focus; sometimes it's a single song on repeat the entire time I'm working on a fic, and sometimes it's the first season of a TV show I've already seen, just queued up in the background for half my brain to listen to, so the other half can write. :D

For this story specifically, I was paying extra close attention to the outline, trying to streamline it as much as I could and make sure there weren’t any filler scenes that didn’t need to be there, so it was a little more demanding than usual! (Normally, I’ll go ahead and let the outline be a mess, and then as I draft, I’ll realize something is superfluous or just not working. But with the length max on this, I really wanted to try to frontload the work of trimming the story as much as I could.) And, luckily for me, @allthepandasintheworld​ gave me some great bits of feedback on the outline, which helped me keep the story in line! <3

hi if you didnt know im the worlds biggest noelle/susie/ralsei fan so of COURSE i love ralsusie.....

its just. susie is like SO good for ralsei no matter what form their relationships takes, bc susie is the person who is able to like, help ralsei?? with all her prophecy-related trauma?? susie is the person who looks at fate and destiny and anybody who claims you have to be one way and do one thing and says no. thats stupid as shit. im gonna do this other thing. and ralsei sees that and cant NOT fall in love--

tho for sure she doesnt know its a crush at first lol <3 i like to think noelle and ralsei bond partly over their crushes on susie except ralsei 100% doesnt know this is happening until like, three years later when shes started to process how her not-childhood was like, pretty fucked up!!! shes like wait THATS what was going on???

and then for susie, ralsei is like...one of the first people to like susie for susie??? thinking about deltarune chapter 2 here, their friendship hangout...its like, ralsei being this sweet pacifist pushover type LIKING susie, liking her for all her rough edges and bucking against the strings of the world?? yeah!! its really good!!!

so i love them theyre so good so silly one day i will write the dess raises kris au and they will be two thirds of the main ship! <3
