#some cute picrew games i found

As someone who's been obsessing over @fieldsofmistria for awhile and early access is releasing in *checks watch* 5 minutes I thought I'd provide some helpful links to character makers that fit that retro anime vibe.

After playing Stardew with the farmer portrait mod, I'm just a little insane about making my characters now. (in as close to the same style as possible)

I tried to recreate the same character in every one, to varying degrees of success.

1. Sailor Seshi Maker

Okay, so couple things. 1) This is a flash game, which means it's a little tricky to use if you don't have a browser that supports flash (get firefox...you should do that anyway) but it also means it's basically impossible to navigate on your phone. 2) While I have used this maker at least 100 times in my youth and can vouch for it, I'm at work and there is zero chance I can navigate the game on my phone. So I found this image on google to give you an idea of what you're working with.

This is probably the best of the bunch. The style matches perfectly and there's a lot of customization options. The only issue is most of the clothes are sailor scout uniforms and dresses, but I believe there's a small section of everyday wear.

2. Mega Anime Creator

This is a flash game. It's pretty difficult to navigate on a phone (if you're even using a browser that can run it) but possible as I made this one on my phone with some effort.

This one is probably my favorite.

It has more of a 2000s anime vibe, which is the only reason I think the sailor senshi maker is better for this particular purpose, but it has the most customization options by a wide margin. Using this one, I was able to get as close as possible to the character I was trying to make.

3. Retro Anime Picrew

So this one is cute, but I have beef with the fact that not only could I not have braids or pig tails, there was also no purple hair option. :'(

I like the aesthetic, but the options just weren't giving the vibe I was looking for.

4. Retro Anime Character Creator

This one is very cutesy. Again, not a ton of options but I like what they have.

I would appreciate not looking like a 10 year old, but you take what you can get.

5. Sailor Moon Character Creator

This one would be SO PERFECT if it had more than two options for everything. Also the character is making that face by default and you can't change it. Lame.

6. Retro Anime Character Creator

I included this one just so people could have options and because it's pretty, but it's not really good for what we're going for with this list.

First of all, you can't change the hair color so this one only works if you're planning to use dark hair on your character. Also while it IS very pretty and it is in an old school anime style, it doesn't really match the aesthetic of the game that well.

And I thought it was fucking adorable, so I decided to make some myself! :3

Here's the party! (+ El and Max, 'cause I love them)

I have some silly headcanons to explain some of the design choices if you're curious! The little pins are also just my headcanons about the characters, don't take them too seriously. :)

Mike) He has a lot of hair, so El gave him some hair clips to keep them out of his face! The shirt he's wearing says "dumbass ↑". Will gave it to him as a joke, and Mike surprisingly (not really) loved it and wear it as much as he can. The books are some DND campaigns that he kept after the party's past games.

Will) He has lots of bandages because he keeps hitting his face in the drawers's doors, as he's not used to his recent growth spurt yet. The bandages are colorful because Joyce brought them with Eleven, and she likes the colors. Will has a knife. Because his gun isn't really discreet. Don't mess with him, he will stab you.

Lucas) He like to look though on the outside, but the impression will immediately be broken if he takes his shoes off. Erica put one of her pink hoodie in the washing machine with his clothes, and his white socks are now baby pink. He has golden retriever energy, so I gave him one! His shirt says "don't mess with my wife", he found it while hanging out at the store with Dustin, and they bought the same one! Lucas's shirt is obviously referring to Max. :)

Dustin) Just like Lucas, Dustin shirt says "don't mess with my wife", and it's referring to Suzie! Also, Dustin found a chicken. He's not sure what he should do with it, but it looks cute and funny, so he kept it.

Eleven/Jane) She found her pretty overalls while she was hanging out with Max in the store, and Max bought it for her! It's now her favorite piece of clothing, and she wears it as much as she can. Her bow was made by Will, he gave it to her because her hair was getting long again. And El also has a knife. Be aware, she's not scared to use it.

Max) A bit after she bought El her overalls, she saw the pretty choker necklace she's wearing. Eleven might or might not have “borrow it" with her powers as a payback... But you didn't hear that from me. Now that she woke up from her coma, she has some trouble getting used to move around, so she has some mobility aids!

And that's all! I absolutely love them all, they're just so adorable. I might make some more later! ^^

Behind the OC Name

Helina "Bell" Soldatova

Since Helina is a self-insert of sorts, I based her name off of my own. My parents were originally going to name me Helena so when I was looking into European names for my Bell, I came across Helina and knew it was a perfect fit!

As for her last name, I started by searching for Russian surnames beginning with S to match mine and eventually found Soldatova, which means "soldier." I liked that it kind of referenced her "dutiful soldier" attitude with Perseus and later Adler, as if to mock it.

Evangeline "Vana" Vogel

Vana is actually based off of Evie Frye from Assassin's Creed: Syndicate! I was a huge fan of the game back in the day and so I decided I'd like to make a sort of tribute to her when I got into Call of Duty. They're even based on the same actress🤭

Evangeline has, more or less, the same root as the name Evie but is unique enough to stand apart from it. I also liked that it sounded rather old-fashioned and decided that could play into the character a bit (she prefers to go by Vana as she's embarrassed by her full first name LOL).

For her last name, I started with the fact that I wanted her to have some German heritage and eventually settled on the surname Vogel. It's fairly simple, while also remaining relatively unique, and it allowed for some fun alliteration with her nickname, resulting in Vana Vogel!

Eileen Corbett

Eileen's name is a small reference to one of my favorite games of all time, Bloodborne! Her first name comes from Eileen the Crow, who is one of the coolest characters in the game, so I couldn't help but use her as inspiration.

Corbett comes from an Old French word for "raven," which I thought fit well since I wanted her to have French Canadian heritage. It also serves as another sneaky callback to Eileen the Crow😆

Hiii would you like to tell us about how you design your adoptables and other characters?

HIII and sure!! i'll walk you through it and if you have any specific questions you can just ask!

i usually find that sticking to a theme is what helps me. once you have it, it's nice to think on how to incorporate it into the design. if the theme is, let's say, cherry, you can deconstruct it in your head to what it is visually - different shades of red, round, shiny, sour-sweet. maybe you want them to have cherry shaped hairstyle, two buns? silky dark red dress? think of the cherry flowers, maybe you can make pink or white flowers as jewelry? maybe the style can be sweet- something cute and light or maybe it can be sour- rockstar type? same goes for fandom characters! take notice of how others look, is there a pattern to their design? see what makes them special and try to find your original idea to fit in the "design rules" you've been presented with! having a personality in your head helps too! you can pick a style you think reflects them and then if you can't think of any clothing or hairstyle at the top of your head you can browse magazines or pinterest for inspiration (or literally even shopping sites. or take pictures of mannequins from the store. or look up some band you like. when i was little my favorite game to play with friends would be to take picture of some clothes we found and challenge each other to draw our ocs in it) . you don't have to draw exactly what you see, you can play with the patterns and colors and length! same goes for hairstyles! world's your oyster when you get into it, at some point you just memorize everything like a picrew in your mind, press random and it's done. like with art, the more you practice, the easier it gets!

Howdy. Fun fact about me, I like to make Google Docs dedicated to any OCs I create for games. It helps me keep track of their values, interests, and basically anything that contributes to the rp. But also so I can have one place for their visuals. I am not particularly talented at drawing, mostly finding enjoyment in lil doodles and sketches. Because of this, I turn to picrews to better visualize my characters. Here's some I made of my Grey Warden Mage Adalia Amell!

This is Adalia before she becomes a Grey Warden. Ngl, I totally forgot to clothe her and felt too lazy to go back and design her again just to put her in a purple robe. I also imagine her needing glasses to read, but since she doesn't wear them all the time I left them out. But she has dimples! Two of them (I only have one, lowkey jealous)! And freckles (a common trait I like to add to OCs whenever I get the chance because I also have them, they're just too light to notice unless you're right near my face in good lighting lol)! She's pasty because she never goes outside due to living in a Circle.

This is Adalia by the end of DAO. Some battle scars from Drakes. She definitely has a huge bite mark on the back of her thigh where one of them tried to take a chunk off of her. Also, I know the process of becoming a Grey Warden doesn't technically leave any visible change, but I wanted there to be something subtle. If you notice her eyes, they look a lil faded and have a ring of red around the pupil. The fade is because people infected by the taint (or ig just Hespith) get these grey eyes that look like they can't see very clearly. The red is so that there's something more identifiable when you look closely, something that looks off, to show what makes Grey Wardens different from others.

Recently found out the artist did this little smooching picrew and I saw an opportunity to make a cute Alistair x Amell moment. She totally is the one who initiates most of the physical intimacy. If you haven't noticed by now, Adalia has a ton of piercings. Since all mages had to wear the same robes every single day, I liked the idea that they found other ways to express individuality. Adalia got a crap ton of piercings. I also have a ton of piercings so I will admit I wanted this character to have a bit of me to her. And yes, Alistair does have slightly pointed ears even though half-elves/elf-blooded don't get that passed on to them, but that's lame. I much prefer to think his ears have a slight point to them, making it so humans think they're just weirdly shaped but elves can recognize he's one of their own.

Then there's this lil guy. She's busy traveling to find a cure to The Calling so she can stay with her beau until they're all grey and wrinkly. And the red flower in her hair is another rose from Alistair. It became a tradition after the first rose he gave her. She tries to preserve it for as long as possible. She has a collection of dried roses.

maverick maeve mav rick eve, i gave them so many nicknames already and we're still are like, at the start of the whole if. they are a cunt, they would rather jump off a cliff than admit when they're wrong, she loves fights and antagonizing whoever falls in their trap..and they love their friends more than anything. i can't wait to see the if unfold because i love maeve SO much already!!

not counting my characters from original works, selene is the oldest oc i have. i've played oblivion lots of times and she (for the most part) always been there with changes through the years. i went off with the moon as a concept for her, "she's a dreamer from the moon" is a line that always makes me think of her. selene is the unwilling hero, the one that got dragged into smth bigger than herself and slowly, since she had no choice, took the shape of the role they imposed on her. she found a mirage of a home for a little while, only for that to be taken away from her. it's truly not worth it to be a hero, huh?

violante waesphine — baldur's gate 3

a difficult battle between vio, akira & zefyr but in the end i went for vio. saying "mean" is an understatement. 'a rose born among thorns'..well she's a thorn born among thorns. it's difficult for me to speak of vio at times, she's more of a concept than a person, more of a numb soldier than the one in charge of her own life. an assasin and a pawn in the hands of a patron, melancholy and remambrance, her life is like a long walk to the gallows and while she's walking that path she has full intention of making it everyone's problem

this one made me realise how i barely have 'soft' ocs jklfds. easy sweep for joelle!! she had her whole life ahead of her with her wife & the son they just adopted, she looked at the future with exctiment until everything was taken away from her. joelle could've let the pain harden her heart but she didn't let that happen. joelle strives to help the people and what's left of the world she knew, she's a cutie who will listen to you talk for hours and crack stupid jokes to see you smile. her 'soft' nature doesn't make her naive so caution is still advised if you try to fool her!!

zefyr — baldur's gate 3/d&d

i love zefyr madly. MADLY i say. they are a powerful draconic bloodline sorcerer that values their privacy AND peace more than anything else. zefyr lives as a hermit in a forest where they can fully concentrate on their studies of the arcane & such. they do not trust easily (or at all) and their guard is always up. you probably won't get more than a few words from them (unless you ask them about magic and power and such), they just want to be left alone u know? they are known as the ashen terror and not only for their hair color: ashes and fire are the only things they leave behind if you dare anger them!! also they are pink. if pink why evil, they're probably just misunderstood..

hiraeth one-eye — skyrim

hate to do this to hiraeth so much fkjdsfnk..i wouldn't say they are dumb, but they surely prefer a good swing of their greatsword as a solution to any other more complicated response. they're super friendly, they love music, reading, chickens and dragons and they would risk it all for the people they love!! also they're extremely dangerous so don't let the big smile fool you. they value honor over anything else and they just can't let go of their father's death ://

sibylla — skyrim

you had a dumbest dovahkiin, now have a smartest ex-dragon priest!! a tie between her and joelle but since joy had her shot already, it's sibylla's turn. formely known as vennesetiid (=the winds of time/destiny), sibylla was a breton born during the middle of the merethic era that joined the ranks of the dragon priests for the simple desire of power, and knowledge. she later betrayed her dragon lords and joined forces to defeated them but lost her life during the battle. but it's not over for her!! a silly little situation makes her come back to walk Tamriel's land, this time as a vampire. sibylla has been alive for centuries and centuries and spent all that time studying the arcane and magic and science as well and working to become the most powerful mage that ever lived (lived..kind of). she saw most of the world's history & legends say she had the power to see the future & she's the proud achiver of the first ever gender transition in tamriel, if you don't love her already you better start

moira velez — fallout new vegas

beside the fact that i love her beyond human comprehension, moira is funny, adventurous, stupid in a good sense as in you can do whatever crazy thing you think of with her, she's an enabler and i think we would have lots of fun together, she's the positive kind of friend that can lift you up from anything when you need it. plus her and my best friend's nv oc are besties so it's like we're all besties to each other!! hehe <3

I almost never stop to think about those things, and I do think it might be nice to look back on and read every once in a while. 4/9/24: My pomegranate arils were NOT expired. Someone spilled maple syrup in the microwave at work and now it smells really good every time someone uses it

4/10/24: Was able to pre-order the new Apollo Justice Trilogy plushes

4/11/24: Found a cute, nice-looking font to write fanfic with. Hoping that using a fun font will motivate my writing. UPDATE: I wrote close to 1,500 words with the new font today!

4/12/24: My manager took the day off so I got burritos with my coworkers. The chicken wasn't too spicy this time, so I enjoyed it a lot

4/13/24: I saw a lot of Homestar Runner posts on my dash because it’s Homestuck day. Can’t find this shit on any other webbed site.

4/14/24: It was 72 and sunny so I spent some time writing outside

Warrior Cats AU characters; Blazepool/Kokoro

Sadly, it seems like the picrew i previously used(Felidaze's cool cat creator) was taken down.

I used that Picrew mainly because I Cannot Draw Cats for the life of me, and because of art burnout, but I will either find another or being using the character creator on Roblox's Warrior Cats Ultimate Edition to show character designs from here on out. (if you play that, you can often find me in-game playing as the AU characters. Flufftuft, Owlclaw, and Waterberry are my most common ones, although I also have moonchaser, strikeclaw, darkthorn, coalboulder, splashstorm, dawnheart, deadheart, and memorysplash. I also have a fox morph "Yap" and two ocs, Sparrowfall and Leopardclaw/Leopard)

Description; A solitary cat, this brown tabby is most known for her loyalty to her clan. Some believe that she only does her job because she has to, some believe she truly enjoys it. She is sharp-tongued and smart, and it often seems as though she can read minds with how fast she can tell why you are in her den.

Story Notes: While not originally planned for her to have too much story importance, this may change as I write. Spiderheart, her mate, is most obviously based on Sojiro Kurokawa. Her daughter, Darkthorn, is obviously based on Mikako.

Her parents were not clan cats. They were rogues whom left her for dead when she was four moons old-- putting themselves first when being chased by a fox instead of protecting their kit. If not for Cinderstorm and Crowstar, the Skyclan deputy and leader at the time, she surely would have died. She was taken back to Skyclan, and raised alongside Daisytail.

Design Notes: When making her design in the picrew, since I've only ever had rough ideas in my head, i started by exploring every option. the white chest/underbelly and muzzle felt most fitting for her character, alongside the darker fade to her upper back and forehead. And, of course, I made her a tabby since those are commonly found in canon warrior cats. I worry I made her look too much like the fandom designs for Leafpool(oh wow their names also both end in pool. maybe I should change it? hm.) and I'm wondering if I should maybe make some design changed. Fluffy brown tabby with yellow eyes whom is a med cat? hmmmmn... Jokes aside, I enjoy this design!

Other notes: While warrior cats is all fantasy-ish and stuff, with cats like Jayfeather, dovewing, and lionblaze having superpowers in canon, I've been trying to ground the AU somewhat more in reality. Due to this, I've been trying to figure out what to do with Kokoro, seeing as it doesn't seem that cats can have alexithymia. on the other hand, I don't want to erase it. aaaah im smacking myself with both hands.

I tried looking at one mental disorders and stuff that cats can have, and the most I was able to get was: FCD*(Feline Cognitive Disorder), Anxiety Disorders, and OCD(Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder).**

I don't use picrew often because i prefer to draw, but I was excited to find yours! I updated the look of an older lil guy and I liked some of the options so much I made a new little guy too!

I think it's fun to use picrews to make characters. Some artists accumulate hairstyles and dresses I would have never thought of or found before, or sometimes I use a picrew and I find it lacking but enough base to inspire me to further detail a character beyond its creation in picrew. Otherwise, sometimes it's just cute to play a game where you build yourself in other people's styles!

I edited it a little to be a bit more similar to what my Yuu actually looks like, but otherwise this is pretty much her! (Edited is on the right)

Now, moving on to some facts about my Yuu !!

- Her full name is Yuura Getsumei (western order) (Now changed to Yuura Amatsukami)

-Her birthday is on the ninth of January

-Short little shit (152cm because THAT'S MY HEIGHT TOO 😭)

-She absolutely refused to use the old uniforms she found in the attic when first searching through Ramshackle, so she went and beat up convinced Crowley so she could get a better uniform, which happened to be a Pomefiore one. (Who am I kidding I just put it on her cause it looks good)

-Unlike in-game Yuu, she's a good singer. But she can't play instruments to save her life.

-Her white hair isn't natural. She dyes her hair a lot!

-Knows how to use a Naginata, but not amazing at it.

-Has cried about her height before.

-Loves Fashion

-Has a fifty step skin care routine that could rival Vil's

-Good ballroom dancer

-Has multiple scars from when she was learning to use Naginata (most noticable one on her face)
