*taps microphone* so i’d just like to talk about all the little kids in coruscant who would absolutely be out of their mind with love and awe for the corrie guard, and their fire engine red painted armour
these kids
these kids would wait at their windows to watch them drive past their window on a scheduled patrol. they’d be so thrilled to see them in the market. or when Fox is standing next to Palpatine in the press in his extra red paint
their parent will be like ‘want to talk to them?’ and the kids will get all shy.
they might even draw pictures of them to give to them
because no matter what the adults think, abiut flesh droids or military police being given more and more responsibility (that theybwould see as power) as the war went on, but little kids know what’s up. they know how cool garbage men are, and fire men (with the shiny red paint), and other civil servants that adults don’t think are awesome but kids know
and you know, you just know that Sergeant Hound, with his cute mastiff and awesome bucket paint would be the absolute pinnacle of coolness to an eight year old coruscanti child
#I forgot to take my pain meds today and then did things so I’n stuck in bed in agony but I thot I’d write out the cute headcanon#that I’ve been thinking about for a while#how the adults would listen to the propoganda that makes civil unrest more likely#because palps wanted turmoil at home to make the senators nervous so they gave him more power#he would absolutely use the guard like a sledgehammer#adults would also know why the corries have mastifs and riot gear and why there were shock troopers posted on a republic planet#and about the raids that keep happening to innocent people#and all of the money and drugs and material goods and wven food and water that were being confiscated for the most flimsy of reasons#and the people who were being arrested never to be seen again#but the kids#would think they were so cool and act like they were celebrities#ok good meeting#I’m writing a winged clone fic and so you can imagine how much this is turned up to eleven when the corries have WINGS and can FLY#some kids would obviously think cody or rex or any of the other clones that ended up in propoganda next to obi-wan and anakin etc were#the best but they would get into arguments with the kids who were all about the corries#some autistic kid thinking hound is the height of clone existsnce#some other autistic kid thinking the logistics offocers were awesome#I just like thinking about it#coruscant guard#corrie shenanigans#corrie guard#commander fox#commander thorn#commander thire#commander stone#sergeant hound#clone trooper hound#star wars headcanons#fluff

So, I've got a new idea for an au... not an original idea by any means, but I just have been thinking about it for awhile now lol
Basically, Luke gets raised by Rex.
At some point, very shortly after Luke is born and Obi-Wan's like shit, I have to get this kid to Tatooine, said Master Jedi gets injured on the way there. Rex is the one that finds him, luckily, and discovers everything that happened (except for Anakin's fall lol). He decides to help Obi-Wan take Luke to the Lars, but when they get there, the Lars are long gone.
At this point, Obi-Wan is too self-loathing and guilty, so he asks if Rex will raise Luke. This starts an argument about who would be better off raising Luke, but eventually Rex gets Luke.
(Obviously, once Rex and Cody are reunited, Rex sicks Cody on Obi-Wan to "get him to come to his senses")
So begins my "semi-writing" spree, where I wrote out just a bunch of little scenes from his AU.
For more from this AU: NEXT
Here is one, beneath the cut:
Luke’s hair grazed his palm, a soft and a slippery stubble that tickled the pads of his fingers. Even his fingers glided over the baby’s skin, cupping the small warmth behind his head and holding him up in his protective fabrics.
Each moment, experiencing the weight in his arms and the soft breaths sniffled into the air, carved themselves into his memories.
The back of Rex’s mind shot to the long corridors deep within the Kamino Facilities, to the rooms that vode had never been allowed to venture into. The rooms had been full of clones too young to be cadets, yet too old to be in their growth chambers. They had been taken care of droids and a very select personnel, Kaminoiian officials that had watched for any defects or ailments.
Despite having never stepped foot in those rooms, Rex could figure that they were like any other space in the Facility. They were likely as in-organic and harsh walled as other rooms, with white bright enough to blind and dull enough to bore, and the temperature set to a disparaging chill. All of it had been built to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of their product, but at the least amount of cost possible.
Rex hated Kamino.
He would do everything to ensure Luke never experienced such a nightmare.
Then blue eyes slid open and blinked up at him, accompanied by a growing smile and hands squirming in their blanketed confines. Warmth flooded Rex’s heart and he held Luke up, ducking his head to hover his face closer.
“Su cuygar, kar’ika,” Rex whispered.
Luke smiled again and broke his prison, raising a hand to press against Rex’s nose.

Rex's squad training ends up falling completely into Alpha-17's hands after the incident with the Trainer. Not just because the other natborn Trainers do not want to deal with a cadet who's strange abilities are far too volatile to predict (Rex is still a child and has no control over his shifting just yet, so any emotional outburst leads to him becoming a little frightened cub), but also due to the Kaminoans themselves showing an interest in studying him more closely without risking themselves.
The obvious solution is to have an experienced clone keep an eye on this unique little cadet, and since Alpha-17 is overseeing the training of the command batch (an already quite unruly sort), he should be more than capable of handling a squad who has a member that could at any point attempt to maul him. He's one of their sturdiest products, surely this plan will end in some kind of victory for them.
The Kaminoans obviously have too much faith in their ability to so much as impose any sort of control over what 17 does or doesn't do. He takes on the chore of course, since his little hellion little brothers seem fond of Rex anyway, but he doesn't push the kid to do half the things the Long Necks want him to do (tasks he calls "pretty circus tricks" with just how frivolous he finds them).
17 just trains him as he would any other cadet that falls under his care, and that approach works best really.
Anything relating to Rex goes through his desk first, and he edits the records however he pleases. Anything that would glaringly lead to decommission (the lack of control over his shifts, the occasional outbursts that lead to lashing out, the little escapades because little cooped up cubs are unhappy cubs, etc...) gets edited out, 17 even fits the kid's unpredictable shifting into some of the training plans (for every task he sets up he has a plan B in case of sudden sabertooth tiger cub acquisition), and he encourages every single member of the squad to have a more independent thought process rather than falling into the usual canon-fodder aspects of the natborn Trainers' teachings.
17 is not the most empathetic or nurturing sort, but he's taught Cody from the ground up after he was reconned, and then taught Fox to be more swift and cunning since he was a bit of a runt in the eyes of the Long Necks. If anyone can help Rex get this shapeshifting under control, it's the very stubborn Alpha series who looks like he's never smiled a day in his life.
And if you're wondering how his approach is to dealing with a little sabertooth? Well...

This about sums it up I think.

Captain Rex Is In Trouble
Chapter 12: Liberation
AO3
[previous] [fic masterpost] [next]
Summary
It had all started with a huge party on the streets of Lessu earlier that day. Sadly the walled city – while it had escaped the worst of the battles – could only hold so many people, and so come late afternoon when the last of the 212th troops arrived the party had moved across the bridge and up the cliffside road.
On top of the cliffs where the ground was flat, the sky stretched on forever. Rex didn’t think he’d ever seen anything like it.
He took a sip of his beer and gazed up at the stars.

Rex didn't actually get any sleep that night. Instead the 501st, the 212th, and the 411th held a huge party on the outskirts of Lessu. All three battalions gathered, almost every single still-living member, to celebrate the end of the occupation.
The freedom of Ryloth, and all of its people. He could hardly complain about it.
Plus, he'd managed to catch a few hours worth of sleep while everyone else set up – the benefits of being a captain. He ended up on a pile of folded tents, next to a just as poorly rested Ponds. When the 212th had arrived and Cody had found them, he'd fallen in-between and the three of them had finally managed to get some rest.
That nap, plus the delicious beers he'd been drinking, put Rex in a much better mood for celebration.
Just like the night before, there was music and dancing. This time though, they weren’t hidden deep underground with only a glimpse of the sky. There were dancers whirling in circles around fires as far as Rex could see, clones amongst them, and the sky stretched out to infinity in every direction. The joy was palpable – emanating from every fire, colouring every laugh, brightening every face.
He could hardly believe it had only been twenty-four hours ago.
Rex grinned to himself as a very patient – and very attractive – Twi tried to teach Fives how to do one of the dances. Fives was failing spectacularly, but by the way he kept falling into his partner Rex thought that might be deliberate. Echo, however, already looked like he’d been doing it his whole life.
So did Kit, spinning around the next fire over. He was shirtless – obviously he was – and the firelight reflecting off his sweat soaked skin made him look like he was made of pure gold. Unlike Echo though, Kit hadn’t needed any teaching.
Earlier Rex had stood, slightly dumbfounded, watching Kit speak to a circle of children in fluent Ryl. He even used his ahwey to mimic the lekku gestures, to the kid’s amusement and delight. Mace – Rex was allowed to call him Mace now – had been standing next to him at the time and explained.
“When Kit was first knighted he served as a watchman for this sector,” Mace had said. “He spent years on Ryloth, targeting slavers. He’s the only person I know who is fully fluent in Ryl and not a twi’lek.”
Then he’d passed Rex a beer and walked towards where Ponds and the rest of the 411th command team had been standing. Rex suspected he was just trying to get as far away from Cody and Obi-Wan as physically possible. They were not being subtle, and Rex couldn’t blame him. He’d spent enough time with Cody and Obi-Wan in the presence of alcohol to know that they would be all over each other in no time.
Rex figured he operated a sort of ‘if I can’t see it then it isn’t my problem’ policy with regards to the Jedi and their supposed celibacy. Not that he’d actually asked the man – that seemed to contradict the whole policy and Rex really didn’t want to cause him problems. He might be allowed to use his first name but Rex was still slightly terrified of him.
Sure enough, as soon as Windu had his back turned they started sucking face. Rex joined in with the jeering before going to catch up with the Torrent boys – Cody wouldn’t be any fun to talk to until he got it out of his system.
The two of them had been dating for a good few months now, almost a year really, and Rex was still waiting for Cody to get ‘ it ’ out of his system, but the two of them seemed to be permanently stuck in that new-relationship bliss. He could be happy for his big brother, but fuck they could be annoying sometimes.
Rex watched in amusement as Jesse was pulled to his feet by a few teens that barely came up to his shoulders and forced to join the dancing. His amusement only grew as the teens turned to Kix and were stared down with the eyes of a man who knew no fear. Luckily Hardcase jumped to his feet instead, and let himself be dragged into the whirling circle of dancers. He was clumsy, and crashed into someone almost immediately, but no one cared.
Everyone just laughed and pulled him in further.
“Not joining in?”
Rex choked on his mouthful of beer as Kit – shirtless and sweaty and downright delectable – sat on the crate beside him. He hurriedly wiped the trickle of beer that spilled over his chin away but Kit wasn't looking, occupied instead by wiping sweat off his face with his shirt. By the time he’d finished and dropped it to the ground between his feet Rex was mostly back together.
Kit looked at him expectantly, and Rex remembered he’d been asked a question.
“Oh – uh – no,” he said with a shrug. “Not really my thing.”
“Shame,” Kit replied, smiling.
Rex didn’t really know how to reply, so he hid his fluster by risking another sip of his drink. This time none of it went up his nose, and he even managed to keep it all in his mouth which was a success, but sadly it didn’t leave him with much left.
“Another?” Kit asked, nodding at his nearly empty bottle.
“Sure,” Rex said.
Before he could offer to go and get them Kit was already on his feet, loping towards the closest crate of rylothi-brewed gal that had been generously provided for them. Rex finished his drink, smiling softly to himself as Kit was pounced on by a group of twi’s. He couldn’t help but feel a little smug as Kit politely made his excuses, shrugged off the inviting hand placed on his bicep, and made his way back to Rex with a smile on his face and a fresh bottle of beer in each hand.
“Thanks,” Rex said, grinning up at Kit as he took the offered beer.
“My pleasure,” Kit replied, sinking down beside him once more.
The caps were already off, so they tapped their bottles together and threw back their heads as one. Rex took a generous gulp, but when he lowered his bottle Kit was still drinking. He watched, a little transfixed as the tendons in Kit’s throat bobbed with every swallow. He was even more fascinated when Kit didn’t stop, and kept drinking until his bottle was empty.
“Thirsty?” Rex asked dryly when he was finished.
“Quite.”
Kit looked critically at the empty bottle in his hands, then back towards the pile of crates – still surrounded by the gaggle of overly affectionate twi’s. Kit’s nose wrinkled a little. Rex laughed as Kit held out a hand, simply summoning a bottle into his hand instead of getting back up. It flew over the heads of the dancers and he caught it easily, flicking the cap off with his thumbnail.
“Don’t let Obi-Wan see you doing that,” Rex joked, smiling into his next sip.
“I’m not concerned,” Kit said. “He’s still firmly glued to Commander Cody’s face.”
“It should only take them another few hours to get it out of their systems,” Rex said dryly.
“If they’d just hurry it up and go find a tent, they could get it out of their systems much quicker… Probably multiple times in under an hour.”
Rex snorted on his mouthful of gal. It dribbled out of his nose, and tears gathered in the corner of his eyes as he laughed. His stomach hurt, he was laughing so hard.
When Rex pulled himself back together again, Kit was gazing at him with a strange look in his eyes. Not strange – Rex was fairly sure he knew exactly what Kit was feeling – but he wasn't quite sure if he was ready to name it yet.
"Under an hour?" he said instead, "I don't even know who you're insulting, Cody or Obi-Wan."
Kit laughed. Rex loved making him laugh, so he pressed on.
"I mean – I know I can last a hell of a lot longer, but I'm just considerate like that I guess."
Kit's laugh deepened, his head thrown back so Rex got a great view of his jaw and throat again. He was illuminated by the firelight, outlined in gold. When he stopped laughing he took a sip of his drink, eyeing Rex over the top of it.
"Good to know," he murmured, amusement flickering around his lips.
Rex tried to discreetly adjust himself. He decided to redirect the conversation before it drifted into even more dangerous territory. He was already having to fight the urge to climb into Kit's lap and tell him – with detail – exactly how considerate Rex could be.
And then offer a demonstration.
"So," he coughed, "Mace told me that you were a sector Watchman? I mean, that you used to be a sector Watchman. For here."
There. That counted as conversation. It wasn't even the worst segue that Rex had ever done.
Kit nodded, taking another sip of his beer.
"How'd you end up in this sector? There's nothing but desert planets. Why not Glee or Mon Cala, or any of the other ocean planets?"
"Well… there were things that interested me about this sector, and the troubles it was facing at the time," Kit said, his eyes gazing into the flames.
"Yeah?"
Kit leaned forwards, then fixed Rex with a sideways look.
"Twi'leks have always been prized by slavers, especially the Hutts. Mostly the women, but not always. At the time, the locals were in danger of being kidnapped every time they left the planet and I… I wanted to help."
"Oh.”
Kit took another slow sip of his drink, staring into the flames of the bonfire.
"The first time I ever met an enslaved person, I was thirteen years old," he continued, his voice only just audible when Rex leaned in closer. "I didn't even realise at the time. It was only the second mission I'd ever been on with Master Yoda. He was just… a boy I played with."
Kit bowed his head, staring at the floor whilst his thumb played with the label.
"The next day he had a large bruise on his face, and wouldn't speak to me. Master Yoda took me back to the Temple the next day and I never saw him again… it stuck with me."
"So you did something about it," Rex said softly.
Kit glanced at him out of the corner of his eye, smiling wryly.
"I certainly tried to. Whether I was successful or not is another matter… After a few years I heard that Master Tahl had died, and that Bant would have to leave the order if she couldn’t find another Master. There are a lot of strange superstitions surrounding taking on a padawan whose Master has died, and I knew Bant fairly well. I didn't want her to have to leave if she didn’t have to, not when she was so vulnerable, so I returned to the Temple."
Rex looked at him, wondering what he should say, but Kit wasn't done.
"It's odd – as Jedi we live such a sheltered life in the Temple. We never fear for our safety, never go hungry or cold… and yet when we become padawans at age thirteen, we are suddenly at risk of exposure to the darkest parts of the Galaxy. Even though we, as Masters, try to protect our charges from it – the very nature of our work means it isn't always possible."
He lapsed into silence. Rex sipped his beer while Kit stared into the bonfire – lost in his thoughts or his memories. Rex was content to watch him and turn over what he'd just learned in his head.
He wanted to ask more questions. Questions about the treaty, about what Kit had done on Ryloth to help stop the sentient trafficking – about what he thought of the legal non-sentient status of clones – but the look on Kit's face stilled his tongue. And, maybe, he wasn't sure if he wanted to hear Kit's answer.
Instead he watched the dancers dance, watched Torrent laugh and watched the world move around them. He sipped his beer and thought about life, and wondered if he could find the man beside him even more attractive than he had before.
"Come on. Dance with me."
Rex jumped. Beside him, Kit knocked back the last of his beer – his strange mood already forgotten.
"What?" Rex spluttered. "No – I can't –"
"It's not as difficult as it looks," Kit reassured him.
"No," Rex said again. "I don't dance."
Kit raised his brow ridges, and Rex hurriedly back tracked.
"I mean I dance – just not like this. With the… footwork. Or the spinning."
"And how do you dance?" Kit said, his head tilted and amusement flickering around his lips.
"I mean it's more like…" – grinding on strange men – "swaying. And… Bouncing?"
Kit looked at him for a moment, then burst out laughing. Rex felt his skin heating with embarrassment.
“Alright,” he mumbled, looking down at his lap. “Don’t be a dick.”
Kit just laughed harder, rocking back and his whole body shaking with it. Rex found himself grinning, embarrassed or not. The joy Kit was radiating was infectious, and as Rex watched him lose himself to the laughter he found himself softening with affection that was definitely something dangerously more.
Kit was gorgeous when he laughed.
Eventually he stopped laughing and began to gasp for breath, wiping actual tears away from the corner of his eye.
“It wasn’t that funny,” Rex said, grinning at him.
“Forgive me – “ Kit gasped, “that just tickled me. Swaying and bouncing – Force what an image.”
“Alright, alright.”
For some reason – perhaps the idea that Kit was imagining Rex dancing – Rex had started to blush furiously again.
“Dance with me,” Kit said again, catching Rex’s wrist in his warm palm.
“No, I – “
“It’s not as difficult as it looks,” Kit encouraged. He stood, his hand slipping from Rex’s wrist and catching his palm. “Come. We can…”
He trailed off, looking around. Rex stared up at him, trying desperately not to focus on how casually Kit was holding his hand. Eventually Kit’s eyes settled on whatever he was looking for and he pointed.
“There,” he said. “We can practice there.”
He looked back down at Rex, his smile flickering in the firelight. As he tugged Rex to his feet, Rex completely forgot where they were going. He forgot what they’d been talking about, where they were. All he knew was that Kit was shirtless and smiling at him, and Rex would have followed him anywhere.
When he was on his feet Kit let go of his hand, and Rex remembered what was happening. Kark it. Still, as he followed Kit to a patch of darkness between a few tents, he reflected that it might not be so bad. Actually it looked like quite a good make out spot – not that they were going to make out or anything – but Rex caught sight of Jesse as he followed Kit into the darkness. He had a beautiful woman under his arm, and the two of them changed direction and walked away at the last moment.
Ha.
The space between the tents was oddly quiet, even though the party carried on all around them. It was like they passed through a forcefield into some kind of quiet bubble, where only they were allowed. It could hardly be called a clearing, more just an empty space between a few canvas tents – not big enough for a bonfire but more than enough space for Rex to make a complete fool of himself.
Kit spun around in the middle, his arms outstretched and grinning widely.
Rex stopped short and raised his eyebrows.
Kit sighed a little and reached forwards to grab his hand, dragging him further into the clearing. Rex tried not to grin and let him know that it was exactly what he’s been hoping for.
“Come on,” Kit said, his hand warm and almost entirely encompassing Rex’s, “it’ll be fun.”
“If you say so,” Rex said doubtfully. Still, he was holding Kit’s hand so it wasn't completely awful.
“First, the basic footwork,” Kit said, standing beside Rex with their hands still tangled together. “The spinning comes later.”
He hadn’t lied. The footwork was relatively simple, and Rex picked it up fairly quickly. It got a little more complicated when the step reversed, but the way Kit laughed and caught him when he stumbled more than made up for what little embarrassment he felt.
“Now we do it while we twirl around. Spinwards first.”
“You say that like it’s going to be easy.”
“It’s much easier than it looks, I promise.”
Kit had to let go of Rex’s hand as they began to add the spinning, but again it was surprisingly easy. He sank into the rhythm of it as he and Kit twirled around the small space in perfect lockstep. He could see why people enjoyed this kind of dancing – the sheer joy in the simple movement lifting his heart.
“Now we add in the reverse step.”
“Kit – No.”
“In three –”
“Wait!”
“– two –”
“No no no!”
“– one. Reverse!”
Rex tried. He really did.
Unfortunately he really hadn’t cracked the reverse step, even when they were just doing the basic version. He made it about half-way through the first motion before fucking up. He tripped over his own feet, somehow falling back over his own heel.
His hand flew towards Kit on instinct, grabbing onto one of his ahwey in blind panic. Despite the sheer size of the man, Kit happened to be at just the right – or wrong – point in his own motion for Rex to be able to unbalance him.
Together they tumbled to the floor, Rex landing on his back so hard that all the air was knocked from his chest in one pained ‘oof’. Kit fared a little better, managing to land on his hands and stop himself from flattening Rex even further.
When Rex opened his eyes, Kit’s face was only inches away from his own. His luscious lips were parted in surprise, his eyes wide and startled.
Rex’s arms were wrapped around his shoulders and one of Kit’s powerful thighs was between his own.
Rex wet his lips with a nervous sweep of his tongue. Kit’s eyes flickered to his lips, then back up.
It would be so easy to lean up and kiss him.
Rex gazed up at Kit, shifting his thighs to make their position even more suggestive than it already was.
Kit’s eyes flickered back to his lips. His eyes widened and his breath hitched.
Just as Rex was about to take things into his own hands, Kit smiled.
“Oops,” he said, his voice faintly strained.
Rex tried not to be too disappointed as Kit helped him to his feet. Once he was upright once again Kit couldn’t let go of his hand fast enough, putting a more than respectful amount of distance between them in seconds. Rex swallowed, a knot in his chest tightening uncomfortably as he dusted dirt off the backs of his pants.
"There you are, fish breath."
Rex jerked upright, startled.
Windu was striding into the clearing. Rex couldn't tell if he was frowning or whether that was just his face.
"Something wrong?" Kit asked, turning towards Mace with a frown.
Maybe that's why he didn't kiss Rex. He'd heard – or sensed, or smell-tasted with his ahwey, or whatever – Mace coming. That would make sense.
"Oh, probably," Mace sighed. "You aren't wearing a shirt, for instance."
Kit relaxed in an instant, his shoulders dropping as he threw his head back and laughed.
"Why aren't you wearing a shirt?" Mace asked, entirely exasperated. "There isn't an ocean in this whole system. You're going to dry up like a dead womp rat on Tatooine."
"I always knew you cared," Kit said, walking over to bump his shoulder against the other Jedi's.
"How dare you accuse me of such a thing."
Kit laughed and turned towards Rex, who was watching them and trying to smother his grin.
“He likes to pretend he doesn't,” Kit said, leaning his elbow on Mace’s shoulder, “but Mace adores me.”
It was impressive. Mace Windu was very tall for a human, and here Kit was – leaning over him easily.
Windu sighed tiredly. Rex could practically see the headache forming above his right temple.
“I tolerate you at best,” he said, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“You love me,” Kit said confidently.
Windu opened his eyes and glared at Kit, which just made Kit’s grin spread wider across his face.
“In that as a Jedi, I have love and respect for all forms of life,” Mace gritted out, “then I suppose I must.”
He would get on well with Fox, Rex thought with a smile.
“No, you love me specifically,” Kit said. He reached across and pinched Windu’s cheek. Mace didn't react other than a very slight flare of his nostrils.
Kit turned, still smiling widely, and settled his eyes back on Rex.
“Mace and I were crechemates,” he said, leaning more heavily on the other Jedi’s shoulder. “We’ve been best friends our whole lives.”
“I would liken it more to stewjon syndrome,” Mace said dryly, and Rex burst out laughing.
“My batchmates say the same thing about me, Sir,” he said between gasped breaths.
“I’m sure they are merely talking in jest, whereas I am deadly serious,” Mace replied.
Rex started to laugh even harder.
“You’re lucky I still love you even though you make such cruel jokes,” Kit said, still leaning on Windu’s shoulder.
“I do not joke , Master Fisto,” Mace said, still serious. “I find you highly repellent.”
“For someone who claims not to like him,” Rex said, grinning, “you haven’t stopped him from leaning on you.”
Windu stared at him, his eyes narrowing slightly.
“And to think,” he said, “I was just beginning to like you, Captain Rex.”
Both Kit and Rex howled with laughter. Windu even allowed his lips to curl into a small smile, and still he didn’t shove Kit off him. His wrist com bleeped, and he looked down. A frown rippled across his face as he read the message and he sighed.
“The Chancellor wishes to speak to the Council,” he told Kit. “We’re late.”
“What?” Kit said, unusually whiny. It was exactly how Rex talked to Cody, he noted in the back of his mind. “How can we be late to something we didn’t even know was happening?”
“Because I got the message over an hour ago and it took me that long to find you,” Mace said, glaring at Kit.
Kit frowned right back at him.
“You could’ve found me easily if you really wanted,” he said with a scowl. “You just don’t want to attend and are planning to blame it on me.”
“That's a very serious accusation, Master Fisto,” Mace replied, crossing his arms. “I hope you have evidence to back it up. Do you?”
“Just a lifetime of experience,” Kit said, his arm wrapping around Mace’s shoulder. “Come on. The sooner we get this over with the better.”
“We should add that as an official teaching,” Windu muttered under his breath, then nodded a quick goodbye to Rex.
“Captain.”
“I’ll find you later, Rex,” Kit said.
His smile as he turned away made Rex’s heart flutter dangerously.
“Y – Yeah,” he said, cheeks heating.
Luckily both men were already striding away so neither of them saw how flustered he was, which would have been embarrassing. Plus… he wasn’t entirely sure how he felt about flirting in front of Mace kriffing Windu . It didn’t help that the man’s sabacc face was second to none, so Rex had no idea how he felt about all of it.
He watched them walk away, talking aimiably. Windu was as stoic as ever, but Kit beside him was gesturing widely and bumping Mace with his shoulder. Rex couldn't tell whether it was happy or angry gesturing, but just before they disappeared from view, Mace turned towards Kit with a wide and genuine smile. Then they were gone.
He stood alone in the sanctuary of quiet darkness a little longer. Kit hadn't kissed him, but it had looked a hell of a lot like he'd wanted to.
Force, Rex had wanted him to.
It was something to think about. Rex decided he should probably think about it with a beer in his hand.
He ambled slowly back to the fire circle where Torrent had been causing trouble, only to find half of them missing.
Jesse – not a surprise.
Kix – also not a surprise. Rex's batch brother had the most game out of anyone he'd ever had the misfortune to be ignored in favour of.
Tup and Dogma were both nowhere to be seen. A bit of a surprise, but good for them.
The remaining Torrent members – Fives, Hardcase and Echo – were sat chatting to a group of locals. All of them were laughing and flushed, everyone grinning. Rex grabbed a bottle of beer, and was about to go join them when his com bleeped in his pocket.
He grinned when he saw who was calling, opening the call before he found somewhere quiet.
"Hey! Congratulations! You're not dead!" Anakin shouted, his goofy grin stretching across his whole face.
"Thanks," Rex laughed, finding some upturned crates to sit on. "You're still alive too I see."
"Not for lack of trying," another voice called, and Padmé's face appeared beside Anakin's.
"Your majesty," Rex greeted.
"Your captaincy," she parried back, smiling.
"Rocket legs?"
"Rocket legs," she confirmed, rolling her eyes. "There's a scorch mark in the middle of our carpet. He's only been allowed to sleep outside the healers wing for one week, for fucks sake."
At least Anakin had the good grace to look ashamed of himself while Rex laughed himself stupid.
"Anyway," he said, when Rex had finally managed to stop laughing, "guess who's been cleared for active duty!"
"Nice!"
"Not a moment too soon," Padmé sighed, stroking Anakin's hair. "I didn't think I'd ever see the day where I was happy to see you go back to a warzone, but here we are."
"I said I was sorry!"
Padmé rolled her eyes again, but the look she gave Anakin was nothing but adoration. Her fingers kept playing with Anakin's floppy curls as she rested her head against his.
"So when can we expect you back?" Rex asked, taking a sip of his beer.
"About a week," Anakin said. "I'm going to head out in your direction tomorrow, but I'll have to catch a lift with someone since my aethersprite is still with you guys… It is still with you guys, right?"
"Kit took very good care of it," Rex reassured him.
"Awesome," Anakin said, his shoulders dropping in relief.
Padmé and Rex shared an amused look.
"Anyway, I was talking to Master Yoda earlier, and I think you guys will be heading off planet pretty soon."
"Twi's aren't super happy with the idea of us staying around," Rex explained. "Happy for the help, but they'll be glad to see the back of us."
"Don't blame them," Anakin laughed. "I mean, you guys must stink by this point. It's been a full fortnight, and I know you haven't had time for a sonic."
"Hey!" Rex jabbed a finger at Anakin. "I'll have you know I gave myself a wipedown with an old grease rag not five days ago."
"Rex! Please," Padmé said, fanning herself. "A lady can only take so much."
“We agreed, Rex is off limits.”
“Yes,” Rex said emphatically. “We all agreed that together. Consider my stinky sweet brown ass firmly behind a ray shield.”
Both Padmé and Anakin started cackling, and Rex doubled down.
“You can look at my sweaty shit covered body all you like, but you can’t touch.”
“Rex – please – “
“I know you find the literal sedimentary layers of grime under my armpits irresistible, but General, Senator, please… control yourselves.”
The holo span around as Anakin fell off whatever he was sitting on, and Rex caught sight of one mechanical foot as Anakin kicked out his leg.
“Ah shit, I’m getting a call,” Padmé said. Her hand briefly appeared – making Rex jump as a ghostly blue hand lunged towards his face. “Bye Rex!”
“Bye Padmé.”
Anakin’s face made it back into frame, his hair in a crown around his head as he lay on the floor.
“I should go too,” he said, running a hand through his hair and sighing. “I have… so much stuff to pack.”
“Alright,” Rex replied, smiling. “Let me know how it goes. We can’t wait to have you back.”
“Can’t wait to be back,” Anakin said with a cheeky grin, “I’ve been bored as shit.”
Rex was still laughing as Anakin terminated the call. He wiped a tear from his eye, reflecting that it really hadn’t been that funny and he was probably a little more drunk than he’d thought he was. He took another sip of his beer anyway, standing and making his way over to Echo, Fives and Hardcase.
“Hey Cap!” Case greeted him, sprawled against a crumpled up canvas something or other. He wasn’t quite shirtless, but the loose tank he was wearing showed the full extent of his tattooed chest. Echo was wearing a leather jacket that Rex just knew he got from Fox when he was staying on Coruscant. He must be roasting – but he pulled it off, damn him. Rex wanted that jacket and frankly it was unfair that Fox had given it to Echo , but whatever. Rex would steal something next time he was on Coruscant.
Fives was wearing denim cut offs and one of the ugliest shirts Rex had ever seen, because he lived to drive Rex mad.
Again, like his twin, he was pulling it off – because again, he lived to drive Rex fucking mad.
Rex recognised a few of the freedom fighters that were sitting with them, and they raised their drinks in greeting. Echo shuffled up on the crate he was perched on to make room for Rex.
“Who was that?” he asked.
“General Skywalker,” Rex answered easily, taking a sip of his drink. “He’s been given the all clear to come back – should be with us in a tenday or so.”
“Nice!”
“Be sad to see General Fisto go though,” Hardcase said, stretching his arm behind him and leaning back.
“Yeah,” Rex murmured, playing with the label of his beer bottle.
He filtered out the conversation, but no one seemed to notice or care. Apart from Echo, who leaned a little heavier into Rex’s side, but otherwise he was left alone to his thoughts.
Somehow it hadn’t occurred to Rex that Kit would be leaving until Hardcase had pointed it out.
He sipped his beer.
He wanted Anakin back – he missed his friend, and he missed having a general who he could keep a clear head around… But he didn't want Kit to leave either.
He really, really liked Kit. More than he should, more than was good for him, but it wasn't going away.
He was fairly confident that Kit returned his… affections? Feelings?
Ugh.
Anyway, the charged moments they kept sharing – the looks, the touches – it had to mean something . The way Kit had looked at him when they'd been lying on the floor, his eyes darting between Rex's eyes and lips, his weight pressing Rex down into the floor – that had definitely meant something.
The way it made Rex feel had definitely, definitely, meant something.
The electricity that had coursed through him as Kit lay above him, their bodies pressed together. The way he'd just wanted to thread his fingers through Kit's ahwey and pull him down and finally, finally, kiss him.
These feelings weren't just sexual. Rex knew himself well enough to know that. He also knew that the feelings weren't going to fade, especially not now he was sure Kit felt the same way. Fuck, if anything, that was just going to make everything worse.
Or better.
If they both wanted it… and Rex was pretty confident they both did… then what was holding them back?
What was holding Rex back?
Could he? Yes. Should he? Probably not.
But why probably not?
Yeah Kit outranked him, but after this week he wouldn't be in Rex's direct chain of command.
And Rex really, really, really liked him.
His smile, his laugh, his whole way of being. Relaxed and calm, no matter the situation. Kind and bright and just… wholly himself. He always seemed so sure and certain and just, always reassuring.
He was funny, he was intelligent, he cared so deeply. As deeply as Anakin, albeit much more calmly.
That was the thing Rex kept coming back too. His calmness. It filled whichever room he was in, permeating the space and people around him.
He made Rex feel calm.
Rex wanted to kiss him. Rex wanted to hold him. Force, Rex just wanted him.
And, if Kit wanted him too… then why not?
Why not?
His mind made up, Rex grinned to himself. He sipped his beer and tuned back into the conversation.
He felt excited. Giddy. Full of anticipation.
He was going to fuck that big green newt man.

Brother Wolf
Some things about Ahsoka and Wolffe between the passing of time.
Brothers-AU         Ao3
Edit: What the actual hell did tumblr do to my teeny tiny stars? Or is this just me?
*~*
„Hey, who does this cadet belong to?“, a voice rang through the hangar, Jedi General Plo Koon and Commander Wolffe interrupted their conversation to raise their heads. A clone in gleaming white armor made its way through the men seated on the ground. He had grabbed a young girl by the wrist. She watched with amazement as hundreds of soldiers covered their armor with paint. Then she grinned broadly at her, obviously involuntary, companion and tried to pull her hand away from him. „I can manage on my own.“, she protested and Woffe was tempted to roll his eyes, when the general's low chuckle threw him a bit off. „Thank you very much, I will take over from here.“, assured General Koon and held out his big hand to the girl. Wolffe was fascinated, he had never really seen a togruta and he had not expected that the color of the lekku could darken that quickly!
„Sir.“, the man in white armor responded to the command and released the girl from his grasp. Hastily she reached out and clasped General Koon's fingers in hers. When she smiled, the snow-white markings on her cheekbones lifted with it. „‘Soka, how long did it take you to get here?“, asked the General and the girl grinned even wider, if possible. „It took me 10 minutes.“, she boasted. Oh dear, Wolffe only had needed 5 on his first day on Coruscant. But he also swallowed the thought, later when he was alone he would allow himself to grin a little. But not now, not in front of his Jedi.
General Koon did seem to be smiling, however. „Commander Wolffe, may I introduce you jedi youngling Ahsoka?“ She pouted! She didn't seem to like the addition of youngling at all... „‘Soka, that's Commander Wolffe.“ Wolffe bowed his head in greeting and the girl, Ahsoka, looked at him with slightly narrowed eyes. Was she studying his helmet? „Are that supposed to be ... teeth?“, she asked critically and General Koon seemed to smile again, where had Wolffe got into? A jedi cadet who eyed him with a predatory look and a jedi general who seemed to be having a lot of fun. If he told Fox that, it might even make his brother laugh.
Before Wolffe could answer, the General's comlink blinked. „Ah… Commander, I'll leave little Ahsoka with you. I'll be right back.“ Great. Wolffe looked after the General for a moment, would it be beneath his dignity to just send the kid home? Sighing softly, he turned his gaze back to Ahsoka and when he watched how she already followed Boost every step of the way, grinning broadly and with amazed eyes, he actually had to smile.
*
Wolffe was tired, so infinitely tired. But grumpy too, and that was exactly what he needed to mask his exhaustion as best he could. Still, he couldn't find the energy to get up when the ship jumped into hyperspace. His stomach was sure, however, that General Koon hadn't been behind the wheel! Rex spoke well of Skywalker, but Wolffe was very happy to serve under another jedi at moments like these.
Soft snoring made him open one eye, Boost and Sinker leaned together slumped against the wall opposite him and slept leaning against each other. They were still in a pretty good shape... What would become of them now? It only seemed logical to split Boost and Sinker among other battalions and assign him, Wolffe, to another unit as well. That would mean less paperwork, right? Kark! This wasn't fair! But he would pull himself together for his last two men. And for the General.
Soft steps made Wolffe blink again, when did he close his eyes again? Ahsoka crept cautiously through the ship, armed with a couple of blankets. One more reason to pull himself together. Rex's tiny Commander-sibling didn't have to see any more suffering than she already would see in this war. Why hadn't General Koon spoken out against her being a padawan? She was a child! Just a little girl who, just a few months ago, had stood in his hangar with wide eyes. And now? Now there was that sad look she gave Boost and Sinker.
Ahsoka gently wrapped two blankets around the two men before she straightened up and padded over to Wolffe with the last one. Wonderful, now the little thing had to take care of him! „It's okay, I'll be fine.“, he growled and got up a little, Ahsoka looked at him. Her gaze was far too serious for her small, round face. Then she clicked her tongue miserably and threw the blanket over the clone anyway. „I'm sorry.“, she muttered and when Wolffe rolled his eyes it was just a reason for her to crawl closer to him. Finally she sat on the floor too, pressed close to his side. That wasn't so bad... „Cody asked about you. And Rex too“, Ahsoka mumbled softly and Wolffe rolled his eyes again, but leaned back against the escape pod again, puffing. „Of course they did...“, he muttered softly and the girl laughed softly into his uniform. „I told them you are fine...“, she added and then fell silent. No, she shouldn't worry her tiny head over all of this. „We will be.“, Wolffe assured her quietly. Ahsoka cuddled closer to him and even if he neither hugged her nor wrapped the blanket around her, she felt his head sag a little in her direction.
*
Rex hadn't returned yet... Cody next to Wolffe glanced at the door again, the mood of the two commanders had clearly sagged. And not just theirs, Wolffe could see some of Rex's men in a corner. Their heads were huddled together and they were whispering to one another. The ARC, Fives, had its arms crossed and leaned against a brother's hand. Cody looked at the door again. „Kriff, that is no longer bearable. I'll go and look for them.“, Wolffe grumbled and got up.
Cody didn't try to stop him, just nodded and got to his feet as well. Well, they seemed to agree this time! With great strides Wolffe made his way outside, if Ahsoka was really there again she would never stay outside that long. Or would she? After all, she belonged to the family... Oh, all of this sucked! Really, the whole thing was just completly unfair! He had believed Rex. Ahsoka Tano would never kill clones, not with those big eyes and grin. But she had been together with Ventress and what should he think of that?! He would have shot the witch on the spot, if Ahsoka hadn't been standing in front of him. She had defended the enemy.
But at the same time she had tried to protect him and the men. Wanted to talk! He should have just stunned her right then and she would never have gotten even close to that damn warehouse.
The evening air was cold and cleared the many thoughts from Wolffe's head. That was all behind them, Ahsoka was alive. She was innocent. That counted. He had reached his goal and had brought her home when Rex and Skywalker were unable to. Even if he had expected more ... backbone from General Plo. But he didn't owe Plo an apology, they all owed it to Ahsoka. Hardly thought through, he discovered two huddled figures. So that's where Rex had been! The Captain sat leaning against the wall of the barrack in the darkness and that on his lap was a violently trembling Ahsoka. Kriff, maybe Cody should have gone looking for them after all? Too late now, Rex looked up and caught Wolffe's gaze. All right, going back was no longer an option. So he came closer with careful steps. Ahsoka had turned her back on him, he could see as she tensed when he came within earshot. Rex had an arm wrapped around her, his free hand gently rubbing her back. A low growl escaped the girl and while Rex looked worried, Wolffe had to smile against his will. What a cute attempt to chase him away again. But she had mastert the art to ignore his grumbling, so he would return the favor.
Also, he had come here on a mission and he still had to apologize. That would be difficult enough... „Your men are getting annoying in there.“, Wolffe muttered and Rex snorted, of course his little brother knew immediately which men were meant! „Fine. Ahsoka, I'll go and talk to the others. I'll be right back, okay?“, he muttered and the girl shuddered before she nodded and slipped off Rex's lap. When he got up, he gave Wolffe a questioning look. „I'm staying.“, confirmed Wolffe.
That seemed to move Rex to give Wolffe another sharp look. Hey! He didn't even have a blaster on hand and he was sure that Ahsoka would bite off his hand anyway before he could draw a single blaster. She certainly could. Rex went back inside and Wolffe sat on the floor next to Ahsoka. There was a low growl and she shrugged her shoulders protectively. „No reason to be rude.“, he grumbled and Ahsoka's head jerked up, with tear-stained eyes and bared teeth she looked at him. „I trusted you!“, she spat, ouch. That ... maybe he deserved that. But that's not how things would work here, he already felt guilty and she wasn't going to talk it any bigger! „And I trusted you too. And yet you were with Ventress.“, he replied chilled, quietly. Then her lower lip started trembling. Kriff.
Ahsoka angrily wiped her face with her hands and hastily tried her body to get herself back under control. She wanted to be mad! She wanted to bite and scratch. But there was just that deep fear inside of her. The back of a hand on her shoulder almost made her jump in the air. Then she tried to avoid the touch. No chance, Wolffe's hand stayed on her shoulder. Like glued on. „I hate you.“, she sniffed tired and angry and sad. This was too much for one day, just too much. Wolffe watched her make a face and then carefully turned his hand, now he gripped her shoulder tightly. „I'm sorry. It wasn't fair.“, he admitted quietly and Ahsoka slumped, she just nodded. „I never believed you could have done any of this. But Fox and the others couldn't be talked into anything diffrent. I wanted to bring you back home.“ She nodded again and Wolffe took a deep breath, he had said what had to be said. It wouldn't hurt to go back inside now and get Rex! He was just getting up again when Ahsoka suddenly slumped to one side. With a thump, her head landed on his shoulder and he froze. It had been ages since she'd gotten that close to him. „I'm sorry I hit you.“, she muttered and Wolffe could feel her shaking again. Kriff. Slowly he raised a hand and squeezed her shoulder. „It's okay, it's been a strange day.“, he muttered and she nodded. Tears still shone on her face. There were dark circles under her eyes and she trembled violently with every breath. Were she cold? „You should get back into the warmth.“, Wolffe decided and got up, with one hand he pulled her to her feet and supported her. She looked pathetic, absolutely drained. And like she needed a hug.
He didn’t hug her. Instead he led them slowly back into the building, across the hallway to the 501st quarters. Inside, voices could be heard. What were these laser brains arguing about this time? Sighing, Wolffe knocked on the door and the voices fell silent. Then the door opened and several hands grabbed Ahsoka. The girl sagged weakly against her other brothers and Wolffe withdrew a tiny bit when she suddenly grabbed him. „I forgive you, it wasn't your fault.“, she mumbled and the others froze again, Wolffe smiled. „And not yours either. It will be okay.“
*
„It will be okay.“, Ahsoka mumbled softly to the wriggling bundle in her arms. Little fingers reached out to her face and grabbed the tips of her lekku. The little girl was beautiful. The fact that Padme could already be seen in Leia after a few months only intensified the effect. But maybe that was just Ahsoka perspective...
No one had protested when she had come into the creche and picked up Leia. No one had stopped her when she had went out with the child and just stopped at the steps of the temple. Even the remaining guards avoided them. Leia patted Ahsoka's cheek with one hand and she blinked hastily, her cheeks were wet. But today was supposed to be a good day! Today Master Plo would come back. And even if she could do without a meeting with her father figure, she just didn't want to miss her brother! Since the battle in the temple, Plo Koon had been out with his men to track down Tamboa. Something Ahsoka would have liked to do herself, but the healers and her brothers found her to be too unstable. Pah...
Before her frustration could swell further and mix with her depressed mood, Leia turned her little head and Ahsoka followed her gaze, Plo Koons presence could already be felt before the speeder stopped and two figures emerged from it. The Jedi Master led the way, Wolffe followed. As they climbed the steps, Ahsoka cocked her head a little, they looked tired. Nevertheless, she decided her meeting with Wolffe would not be able to wait, and waited until the two of them had reached the top. „Ahsoka.“, Plo greeted with clear reluctance. Briefly he reached out his fingers to her arm, Ahsoka winced as he brushed her skin and Plo withdrew hastily. „Good evening Master.“, Ahsoka muttered and quickly averted her gaze, she didn't want to give her old friend a reason to linger any longer. He sighed. „I'll see you tomorrow, Wolffe.“, he said his goodbye. „Good night, General Plo.“, Wolffe replied and when Ahsoka looked up the clone was already looking at her. „You look tired.“, he stated and Ahsoka's lips curled into a small smile. „Have you ever looked in a mirror?“, she asked and Wolffe grinned. He seemed happy, his presence so much easier to take than the jedi. All clones were more welcome to Ahsoka than the Order at the time. The twins were the only exception.
The twins, whom Wolffe and many others of Ahsoka's brothers had never met! As if on command, Leia held out her hand, gurgling, and clenched a fist in Wolffe's direction. Hel eyed the little girl with a raised eyebrow. „I wanted to introduce you to Leia.“, Ahsoka smiled and Wolffe rolled his eyes, it was almost a loving gesture. „The girl from Skywalker?“, he asked quietly and hesitantly held out his hand, Leia immediately grabbed his index finger and cooed with satisfaction. A tiny smile appeared on his face and Ahsoka breathed a sigh of relief. The two seemed to be able to develop a positive bond, untroubled by the actions of the children's father. „Yes.“, Ahsoka grinned and held out Leia to Wolffe. „Oh no, keep it!“ „Don't be scared like that.“, she teased and gave the child to Wolffe. He held her a little clumsily and looked as if he was afraid of crushing her. And then suddenly she laughed. The little thing with the dark hair and open eyes looked at Wolffe and laughed. „She will be so much trouble.“, Wolffe muttered, but his grin belied him.
*
„Give it back!" Ahsoka grinned and turned her gaze forward, just fast enough to avoid a laughing Clone Commander. Rex was less fortunate, Cody practically ran him over. Leia threw herself at the two clones without hesitation, Luke next to Ahsoka hastily made a few steps of space between himself and the scramble on the ground. „Children, does this have to be in the hallway?“, Cutup teased, Jesse and Droidbait laughed softly when Rex threw them a less nice gesture. „Why don't we just go on, we have a hunt to prepare after all.“, Jesse grinned and Luke's eyes lit up, he nodded eagerly. „We can kidnap your padawan for now, right vod'ika?“, asked Droidbait and Ahsoka grinned and pushed her shoulder against his, she was a tiny bit taller than her brothers and had it not been for the first gray hairs, she would have been greatly amused. „Off with you, I'll see where Wolffe is. He will be able to save our brother.“
Satisfied, the others left and Ahsoka quickly left the curses in the hallway behind. She didn't have to look far, Wolffe came up one corridor to meet her. Like the other clones in the temple, he was civilly dressed, his hands buried deep in the pockets of his trousers. He didn't seem in a hurry. „Do you know why Leia is trying to kill her favorite brother?“, Ahsoka asked and Wolffe grinned broadly, he looked like he had just received the greates gift of all. „Cody snatched her belt while sparring.“ Oh dear. „The gray one?“, Ahsoka asked, she knew exactly which belt was talked about. Finely woven, light gray and embroidered with a wolf's head at the ends. Who would have thought that Boost had that much talent! Leia loved this belt, almost as much as the wolfpack and the 212th.
„Then maybe we should save Cody and Rex, because I still need my brother and Obi Wan comes back in-„ A quick look at the crono. „-three hours again. He's going to want Cody back in one piece and I'm not going to be the one covering up a murder for his padawan.“ Wolffe laughed, but quickened his pace. „We both know that you would be the first to cover up the murder.“, he grinned and set off to separate his siblings from each other.

Febuwhump Day 10
Prompt: “I’m sorry. I didn’t know.”
Read on AO3
Ghosts of the Past
"And med supplies?" Obi-Wan asks, glancing up from his datapad. "How are our bacta levels?"
"Good, sir," Cody nods.
"Yes, I suppose we've had a good streak going. Okay, now fuel levels?"
"Half tank."
"Weapons?"
"Forty units short, I believe."
Obi-Wan nods and types the order into the datapad.
"Alright, then the last things on the supply lists are..." he trails off as a strange feeling washes over him. He looks up, his eyes scanning the hanger. Troopers mill about in the usual bustle of days where there are no battles, just some administrative duties, and down-time. He can feel Cody staring at him, and is about to ignore the feeling when he spots a non-military ship on the other side of the hanger.
It's a modest ship, but it's not the vessel that is bothering him. Two mechanical troopers talk to a man standing next to the ship. From this distance, Obi-Wan can't quite see the man, but he can feel him.
In the Force, this person is familiar in a way that causes chills to run down his spine and the distant sound of bombs exploding to echo in his mind.
"Sir, is something wrong?" Cody asks, and Obi-Wan's head snaps back to him. He points across the hanger to a ship and a small group of humans talking to the mechanic clones.
"Do we have visitors?"
"Uh, diplomats I believe. Requested to land for maintenance on their cooling system. Is there a problem?"
Obi-Wan doesn't answer him, just hands him the datapad with the supply orders and starts to walk in their direction. He doesn't know what he hopes to accomplish he just... has to find out.
He weaves through the various groups of troopers, only giving himself time to nod as they salute in his presence. The closer he gets to the man the better his view gets and the greater the buzzing in his stomach grows. Though Cody described him as a diplomat, he isn't dressed as so. He wears modest travel clothes and boots that are nearly as beat up as Obi-Wan's. The only true indication that he is some sort of political leader is the golden pin that secures his dark green cloak.
The man brushes his fingers through his short brown hair, pushing it off to the side, his dark eyes flickering up to meet Obi-Wan's.
And he stops dead in the center of the aisle, his entire body feeling numb and his throat tight. He must look like he's seen a ghost because a moment later he feels Cody's hand gently touching him at the elbow.
"General?" Cody sounds worried, which is enough to get Obi-Wan to tear his eyes away from the face of a man who might as well be a ghost. He doesn't know what to say to his commander, who is looking back and forth between him and their guest.
A guest that just handed his datapad to the mechanical clones and now approaches them.
Obi-Wan generally considers himself well prepared for most situations that may be thrown at him. War has taught him a lot about always being ready for a fight or a hasty retreat, and how to properly read a situation to decide which is appropriate.
But now, Obi-Wan is at a loss. All he can do is stand there as a piece of his past he never thought would be dug up again walks right up to him.
"I take it you're the Jedi General," he says in a thick Outer Rim accent. "I thank you for your hospitality in allowing us to get repairs."
"It is fortunate we were on your route, I suppose," he smiles weakly. "Where are you coming from?"
"Right, I haven't introduced myself, apologies," he bows respectfully. "I am Representative Nield of Melidaan."
Nield. Oh, Nield. No wonder the Force felt so familiar and so heavy. He hardly looks different than he did three decades ago-- just a bit older, but time has been kind to him.
"Melidaan?"
"Outer Rim. We've avoided this war so far so I'm surprised you haven't heard of us... though that's not an invitation."
"Of course not. I just..." It's obvious Nield doesn't recognize him, and a part of him is hesitant to reveal his identity. They did not exactly part on friendly terms, and Obi-Wan doesn't have the same face he did when he was thirteen. But there is a curiosity there he can't help. He wants to know what happened after he left the Young in their victory. "I hadn't realized the name was changed."
Nield blinks. "What did you say your name was, general?"
The moment of truth. "Obi-Wan Kenobi."
Now Representative Nield looks as though he's seen a ghost. His jaw literally drops, eyes growing wide. He reaches out, looking as though he is going to cup his cheeks before resting on his shoulders and Obi-Wan sees Cody flinch out of the corner of his eye.
"Obi-Wan?" Nield says, barely above a whisper. Suddenly it is like they are thirteen again, two of the oldest among a group of children fighting for peace. "How the hell did they drag you into another war?"
__________
Cody watched as the men embraced-- Nield, he called himself. A political leader from Melidaan. Cody has never heard of that planet, but General Kenobi appeared to be familiar with it. Somehow he is also familiar with this Nield despite looking uncharacteristically petrified by his presence. It made Cody nervous that maybe this would be some sort of old enemy that they mistakenly cleared, but now that he examines the men talking quietly to one another, he realizes they look at one another in the same way his brothers do.
How the hell did they drag you into another war?
He didn't know General Kenobi had been in another war-- in fact, nothing in his knowledge of recent Republic history indicates there were any other major wars fought unless he found himself in a small scale one. Though, General Kenobi is often talking about how foreign it is to be a soldier when Jedi training is to be a peacekeeper. He has given no indication that he has a history of being a veteran, but it would explain how he is so skilled with battle strategy.
Cody thinks about this as he heads to the mess to find a cup of caff. It's late in the evening, but new orders have come in that he has to prepare for.
Unsurprisingly, General Kenobi seems to have come to the same conclusion. Cody finds him pouring his own mug.
"We seem to always be on the move," the general says with a weak smile as Cody walks up next to him to grab his own mug.
"Did they mistake us for General Skywalker again?"
He chuckles, moving out of the way so Cody can pour his own mug. "I believe Anakin and the 501st will also be joining us."
"Yes sir, I saw. Rex sent me a comm as soon as he found out."
"It's been a while since we've seen them, I'm sure the men will enjoy the reunion. Hopefully, we can get some more reprieve after as well."
They start walking back toward the briefing room, caff and a few ration bars in hand. Speaking of reunions...
"Was your visit with Representative Nield... enjoyable, sir?"
"I did not expect to see him again. The last time I saw him he was quite adamant about how much he hated me."
He looks at the Jedi with surprise. "I wouldn't have guessed, sir."
"We were young. Headstrong and passionate about what we believed in."
"You met him on Melidaan?"
"In a way," General Kenobi's pleasant disposition clouds. "Back then it was called Melida/Daan, though. I assume you heard him marvel at how I ended up in another war?"
Cody nods, suddenly feeling as though he is impeding on the privacy of General Kenobi's past. He opens his mouth to assure him he has nothing to explain and it is none of his business, but then the Jedi is talking.
"The Melida and the Daan were two groups on this planet stuck in a bloody civil war. They hated one another so vehemently they couldn't decide on a name for their planet, so the Republic eventually gave up and hyphenated. A Jedi was sent there to try and facilitate peace, but she was captured. Qui-Gon and I were sent to extract her."
General Kenobi stops outside the briefing room, leaning his back against the wall. "The Master was taken by a third group-- the children of the Melida and the Daan who were fed up with the fighting. They called themselves the Young. Nield was one of the Young, which is how we met."
"So the Jedi stayed to help?"
He tucks his arms into the billowing sleeves of his cloak, exhaling deeply "Not the Jedi, no. Qui-Gon had to get the injured Master back to the Temple, and we had no jurisdiction to fight their war. I was given a choice, and I felt my place was to help the Young."
There's a tightness to his words that doesn't go over Cody's head. His time in the war is obviously not something he has talked much about-- he's never even heard it referred to, and they are certainly in the context in which it would come up. Cody has learned General Kenobi isn't usually keen on talking about himself. He seldom mentions his master, and talks even less about his apprenticeship. He doesn't want to push the subject, but something is nagging at him...
"How old were you, sir?"
General Kenobi looks from the spot he fixated on behind Cody's shoulder to making eye contact. He doesn't say anything for a moment, and Cody has a horrible feeling about the answer.
"Thirteen," he mutters. Were the corridor not empty, he may not have heard it at all.
"Thirteen? They left a kid alone to fight a war?"
"I was one of the oldest among the Young, actually."
He says this as though that doesn't make things all the more horrifying. Cody feels bad enough when the shinies come through, barely ten standard years, but at least they have the bodies of grown men. But true kids? An army of children younger than Commander Tano?
"Pardon me for speaking freely, sir, but the Jedi allowed this? Your master let you stay in a war zone?"
"Well I..." he looks at Cody in a way he has never seen General Kenobi look before. There is this deep sadness behind his bright eyes that reminds him that he is not just a High General and a Jedi Master. "Cody, the choice I made was between going back with Qui-Gon, or leaving the Jedi Order."
Cody's throat goes dry. Suddenly his vague references to choices and the Jedi not being involved make sense, and dammit, he shouldn't have been so dense to make him spell it out. "I'm sorry. I didn't know..."
"Cody," General Kenobi says with a kind smile that Cody doesn't feel he deserves. "You couldn't have known. To be honest, and I'm not proud of it, not even Anakin or Ahsoka know."
"Sir, then why tell me?"
He shrugs. "I trust you with my life, commander, why not with my teenage war stories, too."
Cody is relieved to see a glimpse of the usual dry-humored General Kenobi coming back through, but he still is at a loss of words from all of this.
"In all seriousness," General Kenobi continues, "I don't often think about my apprenticeship. Anakin has me to remind him about all his embarrassing moments, but I usually don't have to face my past like I did today," he pauses. "Can I ask your advice, Cody?"
"I'm not sure what help I could be, sir, but sure."
"Should I tell Anakin about Melida/Daan?"
Cody is certainly not qualified to give padawan parenting advice, but the general doesn't seem to care. He tries to consider if he has any relatable experiences in his short life, but clones were not raised with such individualized instruction. But he does remember nights spent with his batchmates, talking about anything and everything to pass the time. And when he sees Rex again they will try to find a time to sit down with glasses of brew, talking about every dumb plan Skywalker implemented and how it somehow worked out for the best and continuing their count of stupidly self-sacrificing things Kenobi does that threatens to give the entire 212th a heart attack.
He always considered the Jedi to be like little families-- families that train each other to be excellent warriors, but families nonetheless. In a way, the clones have adopted that familial mindset as well. With the galaxy unsure of what to do with them, they at least have one another to get through it all.
So maybe he does know a thing or two.
"It can't hurt, sir. It's probably something Skywalker would want to know about."
"Oh yes," the Jedi Master muses. "He was outraged when he found out about the time got to ride a varactyl for a royal a hunting party."
Cody raises an eyebrow. "Sir?"
He smiles, shaking his head. "A story for another time, Cody."

A regretful Wolf and his Beauty.
Chapter Three
Beast!Rex x Fem!reader
Summary: As punishment for his actions, young prince Rex was cursed to become a monster by a witch. The only thing that saved him from his fate was an enchantress, who gave him a condition. He has to find true love in order to redeem himself and he only has until the last petal of the enchanted rose falls. Rex's family helps you by guiding your way into his heart. Rex's fate now lies in your hands.
A\N: This is a collaborative fic with @ahsokatano-thetogruta. Just a warning, the transformations get kind of gory and disturbing, if you want to skip that part you may, it starts right after Rex transforms. We have marked where the gore and disturbing parts are, so you can skip that part if you'd like because the last part of the chapter leads into the next one. As always, we hope you enjoy this fic. credit too @suddenly-clones for Cody’s nickname Bubby.
Warnings: mention of past abuse, horrific description (we have marked this for you so you don't have to read it)
Rex walks down the stairs behind Cody, feeling nervous. Once at the bottom, Cody places a hand on his shoulder, giving Rex a comforting smile. They both walk to the ballroom, opening the door and walking in to see 99 reading all the little kids a story.
“And little red riding hood asked ‘What big teeth you have grandma’ the wolf in disguise smiled at her. ‘All the better to EAT you with’ the wolf then lunges at little red riding hood, but just before he eats her, the friendly wood cutter bursts in. He scares the wolf, who runs away. And both him and red find her grandmother locked in the closet. And everyone lives happily ever after.” the kids cheer, with the bad batch closest to 99.
There's fourteen year old Hunter sitting right beside him, with twelve year old Crosshair on the other side and eleven year old Wrecker in behind Hunter since he's the tallest. The youngest, Tech, who's only six years old is sitting on 99’s lap. Stutter is in the middle of the group of kids with Ahsoka and his friend Sabine who’s the same age. Rex thinks about the real ending of the story, where the grandma was eaten and the woodcutter kills the wolf.
He’s glad that 99 waits until you turn twelve to tell you the real story, it's way too dark for little kids. Rex is glad the bad batch is happy here, they, like Stutter, were taken in because of abusive parents. His aunt hated the boys for being different. Hunter was born with enhanced senses, which gives him headaches and can make him pass out, Crosshair is the weakest of the kids, having deficiencies that make him skinny and sick, they also made his hair grey. Wrecker is the biggest and strongest of them. But his eyesight is amazing, you have to watch out for the grumpy kid, he has a habit of whipping things at people when angry, and he has Never missed. Tech is tiny too, but he’s also super smart, but his eyesight is horrible, so he wears glasses that Anakin had made for him. 99 adopted them as his son’s as soon as he found out about the abuse and trauma his sister had caused.
All of that is gone now and it is all in the past. The bad batch and Stutter are living such happier lives now with their new, loving family.

Fives is aimlessly wandering around the castle, trying to take his mind off of what had happened earlier. Echo is with Waxer and Boil, playing with Numa. Fives kindly declined when his twin asked if he wanted to play too, but he said that he just needs some alone time.
He still feels a little bit hurt inside, but the feeling is slowly passing and fading the more he keeps on wandering, turning from one corridor to the next. He stops when he hears a soft humming of a melody coming from a room that he passes by. Listening intently as he looks around the corner, he sees an eight year old girl cleaning around the room with her feather duster. Her hair is brown and short, her skin is a pale blue like a blue lagoon.
The young girl turns around to see Fives peeking around the doorway. Before she could say anything, he tried to hide as quickly as he could, but she already saw him. She giggles a little, walking towards the doorway and standing there, brushing off any dust from her uniform and smiles at Fives. "Hello Prince Fives." The girl has a small, cute smile gracing her face now.
"Hey." Fives says nervously, not really sure of what to do. He thinks that she is really cute, so he decides to push his nerves aside and talk to her some more. "What's your name?"
"My apologies Prince, my name is Kiara Zelenca." She does a little curtsy in front of him. "It's nice to meet you."
"It's nice to meet you too, though you don't have to call me Prince. You can just call me Fives." He smiles kindly as he admires the  white patterns on her face. Her turquoise eyes compliments her skin perfectly. "If you don't mind me asking, what species are you?" He tries to sound as politely as he possibly can.
"I don't mind at all! I'm both Human and Togruta. My Mother was a Togruta and my Father was Human. I have hair instead of montrals and my ears are a little bit longer because I don't have lekku like other Togruta." She explains a little nervously. He probably thinks that I'm weird now. She thinks to herself. "I use my hair to cover them as much as I can, because the others will say that my ears look weird and ugly. They call me a freak too..." She tries her best to keep her sadness back. She hates how she looks already, so it doesn't help that she gets bullied by others.
Fives frowns, hearing that this has happened to Kiara. The slight tremble in her voice is apparent to him, so he walks a little closer to her, looking Kiara directly into her ocean blue eyes and slowly raises his right hand towards the left side of her hair. He freezes just before he reaches her face. "Can I...can I see them?"
Kiara is speechless, thinking that just explaining them to him would make him feel the same way that the others do. After a moment, she nods and Fives strokes back her hair. Kiara looks away embarrassed. He sees that they are longer, but he just smiles. "I think they are really pretty." He says stroking the side of her face lightly. She looks into his honey coloured eyes. "You are perfect just the way you are, so don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. If they do give you any more trouble ever again, you tell them that they will be speaking to Prince Fives personally." Fives smiles reassuringly.
This is the first time that someone has told her that she is perfect and that she doesn't look like a freak. Her heart flutters as she leans into Fives' touch. He feels his cheeks heat up a little bit, she looks so adorable like this. Kiara opens her eyes and looks up towards the ceiling, to see mistletoe hanging down from the doorframe. She giggles.
Fives raises an eyebrow sweetly. "What is it?" He asks her as she motions for him to look up. He does so and sees what she wanted him to see. His cheeks turn red when he turns his head to look back down at Kiara. Her cheeks have turned to a darker shade of blue. She's obviously blushing.
Fives swallows harshly, trying to gather all of the confidence he can find within himself. "W-would you like to kiss me?"
Without a moment of hesitation, Kiara wraps her arms around Fives' neck as she softly presses her lips to his. Fives instantly starts kissing her back, wrapping his arms around her lovingly. They both pull away, and Fives sees the bottom of Kiara's ears move a little as the tops turn the same shade of blue that is on her cheeks. Kiara giggles at the goofy smile on Fives' face. “Wait till I tell Echo that I kissed a girl.”
Kiara laughs at Fives’ remark, kissing his cheek softly. They are both blushing a lot, this having been the first time either had ever kissed someone. “I… I think that i might love you already?”
Kiara’s eyes go wide when she realizes what he just said, then she realizes that she feels the exact same way. “I think that i might love you too, Fives.”
“Kiara!!” Kiara turns at the voice of her mom. She turns back to Fives, an apologetic look on her face. “I’m sorry. Thats my mom, I have to go” Fives nods, watching her leave. He sighs. I’m gonna marry her. He thinks to himself.
xxx
A little while after 99 finishes the story, Fives and Echo walk into the room, Rex notices that Fives is blushing as he tells Echo something. He can’t hear what is said. Both boys freeze when they see Rex walking over to them. “Hey Echo. Fives.” he says nervously, the twins just frown at him, he sighs.
“Look, I'm sorry for what happened, I shouldn't have snapped at you. I know you were just having fun. I understand if you don’t want to talk to me for a while after how I reacted earlier.” Rex wrings his hand together, staring at the floor. He hopes that his brothers can forgive him, but he also understands if it takes a while.
Fives slams into him with a hug, and Echo follows after him. “We’re sorry too, we shouldn’t have pulled the prank in the first place.” Echo nods in agreement with Fives.
“Yeah, we shouldn’t have played a prank when we knew that you were stressed, we’re sorry.” Both boys nuzzle into their brother, as Rex wraps his arms tightly around them.
"It's okay. Now, shall we go and play a board game?" Rex offers and the twins nod their heads in sync, making Rex chuckle. "Alright, you two can pick what we play.
xxx
Further somewhere in the castle in one of the bedrooms, Kanan and Hera are getting ready for the evening activities that were planned to take place in the ballroom. They are both nineteen years old and Kanan is a knight, though he was not needed to go out on patrol today.
Kanan had rescued Hera five years ago when she was being chased by some smugglers who were after her. He fortunately got there in time to save Hera and she is still very grateful for it. Kanan asked if she had anywhere to go, but she just shook her head. He decided that he would take her to the castle with him. He asked his friend, Rex, if it was okay if she could stay for a while, so the eight year old Prince asked his parents if it was okay and they both were happy to let her stay for as long as she needed to.
They were quick friends in the beginning and soon enough, they became lovers after they confessed to one another a few years ago. After another year had passed, Kanan decided to finally propose to Hera, so when he was out on patrol in the village, he bought her a beautiful ring. He was delighted when she said yes and they got married soon after. It's been two years and they are so happy together.
Hera finishes putting on her long, dark green dress that she wears on special occasions. It compliments her lime green skin perfectly. Kanan exits the ensuite to see his wife standing in front of a standing mirror as she tugs the long sleeves of her dress down. Hera sees in the mirror that Kanan is admiring her from behind.
"You look stunning in this dress, darling." He walks closer and wraps his arms around her waist, kissing her lek from behind.
Hera relaxes into his embrace. "Thank you, love. You look very smart in your suit too."
Kanan hums in response, enjoying every passing moment they spend like this.
"Shall we go and join everyone downstairs in the ballroom?" Hera asks as she cups Kanan's face.
"Yeah, let's go."
xxx
A few hours later the sun has fully set, allowing the warm lights strung up against the walls to glow brightly, creating a warm, atmospheric feeling in the ballroom as everyone is gathered around, speaking to friends and family. The knights haven’t returned from patrol yet when there's a knock at the door, Rex being closest, answers it. Outside is a woman, she has a bald head, white skin and tattoos on her face. “Hello, can i please come in? Its bitterly cold out here and i have nowhere to go, all I have to offer is this rose as payment.”
Rex feels pity for the woman. “Cody!!” He calls his older brother, he knows that he has to ask permission before he can allow a stranger in. The woman watches, Rex doesn’t see the malicious glint in her eyes.
“What is it Rex? Who is this?” Cody asks as soon as he sees the woman. “She has nowhere to go, can we allow her to stay with us? She says that she can only pay us with a rose, but i don’t think that’s a problem. Do you?"
Cody smiles at his brother’s kindness, turning to the woman. "I don’t think that will be a problem either, of course you may come in Miss…?”
“Ventress, just call me Ventress. Thank you for your hospitality.” Ventress walks in, handing Cody the rose.”There are drinks and food over there  if you’re hungry Miss Ventress.” Rex tells her as she walks in, he doesn’t see the evil smirk as she eyes the bowl of red punch. She walks over grabbing a drink.
xxx
An hour passes, everyone is having fun. Fives is with Kiara, introducing Echo to her. Jesse and his twin brother Kix are playing doctor with the young knights in training. Kix had just become a doctor a year ago, so he’s writing fake doctor notes of crazy, fake diseases for a few knights while Jesse is entertaining the kids with paper shapes and animals that he folds.
Boil is making his niece pancakes and Waxer is sitting nearby, playing with the little girl. All the cousins, knights and staff are talking, joking and having a great time like they do every year. Ventress walks near to Rex, who’s talking to Cody and Bly. Ventress has a wicked smile on her face as she pretends to trip, spilling red punch on Rex’s favorite white shirt. “I am so sorry young man.” Ventress says sarcastically, making Rex lose his cool for the second time that day.
“Can’t you be more careful! And watch where you’re going!” He tells her angrily, freezing when he realizes how rude he was.”I'm sorry, I should-!”
“ENOUGH!!! You have been rude to the wrong person, little prince!” She snarls. Her hands have a dark green aura, everyone now realizes that the woman they had kindly invited into their home, was actually an evil witch. Her eyes glow green, and a circle of magic surrounds young Rex, cutting him off from his family. All the child can feel is fear as tears stream down his face. "I’m so sorry.” He whimpers out, begging and pleading for forgiveness.
The magic surrounding Rex and the witch is too strong, stopping anyone from getting close to them. Despite this, Obi-Wan tries to go and protect Rex, fighting his way through the sheer force of the wind being created. He only gets so far until he is blasted back into Cody's arms who catches him. Obi Wan gets to his feet and holds onto Cody.
Through all of the madness surrounding everyone, Obi Wan hears someone yelling behind him and then sees Anakin run past him with his wooden sword held high above his head, charging directly towards the witch. Obi Wan manages to grab Anakin and pull him in close to himself and Cody, all huddling together during the complete chaos. Both Obi Wan and Cody wrap their arms protectively around Anakin, using their own bodies to protect the child from the chaos and anything else that may happen. Cody prays for his brother, feeling like a failure for being unable to get to Rex. Not even all the Knights using the force would be able to get to him.
Suddenly there is a cry of pain. fearing the worst for his Rex'ika, Cody looks towards Rex who has his hands in his face and drops to the floor on his knees, writhing in pain. Cody looks around the room to see that everyone can see it too. Rex is...growing.
Plo, Wolffe, Sinker, Boosts and Comet all tried to get too Rex… that is until he started to change, they froze as soon as their older cousin started to grow. Plo has never heard of this happening before, he knows that witches are powerful, whatever she is doing to the young prince won’t be fixed so easily… If ever. Wolffe goes to run up to them, he doesn’t care about what’s happening to his older cousin. He leaves his brothers, running to Rex when a shard of glass hits him, cutting a slice through his right eye. Ventress laughs, knowing that her shard glass had hit her target.
Boil jumped in front of Waxer and little Numa as soon as the witch yelled, leaving the pancake he had cooked thrown on the floor. Numa screams and cries as the chaos ensues, both Boil and Waxer hear the cry of pain, they turn to see Rex fall to the ground in the middle of everything. They watch in horror as he starts to grow. Something that should not be happening to his body.
The Bad Batch all grab onto 99, standing in front of him. They close their eyes in fear, but 99 sees what happens to Rex, feeling fear for the young boy whose body is unnaturally growing bigger. And is also screaming in both pain and terror.
Fives jumps in front of Kiara, Echo following behind him. They watch their Ori’Vod fall to the ground, crying out in pain, they watch as his body starts to grow. They don’t know what’s going to happen to their brother, but they swear that they will love him no matter how much that monster changes him.
Stutter's eyes widen as he sees his Ori'Vod growing and writhing in pain on the floor, so he screams and tries to run over to help him. He feels someone grab his small hand and gets pulled towards them. He looks up to see Sabine using her whole body to protect him. Stutter sees a Lasat run up behind her and crouches down, wrapping his arms around the both of them to keep them safe from the chaos.
Fox and Thorne hear the cries from Rex, panic coursing through their bodies, flooding their minds with fear. Fox looks around quickly to see that Ahsoka isn't with them anymore. He scans the room to see that she is staring at her Ori'Vod through the green forcefield of magic. Fox grabs her arm to pull her back towards him and Thorn to protect her, though in the process, she loses her grip on her music box, dropping it to the floor. Everything seemed to play in slow motion as she watched it break to pieces that scatter across the floor. Fox realises what happens when Ahsoka starts to scream and cry as he sees the broken music box on the floor, so he comforts her the best that he can. Thorne joins Fox to help protect Ahsoka.
All Rex feels is pain, discomfort and fear. He regrets everything. He groans as his smart clothes begin to grow tighter on him, ripping open at the seams, revealing blonde fur. His arms start to grow longer and so does his legs, bending and rearranging themselves into haunches as a tail also starts to grow. He feels his face elongating into a snout, baring his sharp teeth to attempt to block out as much pain as he can. His cries of pain turn to whimpers as the transformation finishes. His clothes have ripped to shreds, blonde fur now completely covers the entirety of his body. The only article of clothing left are his shredded pants. Rex just lies on the floor, whining as he feels everyone staring at him.
Cody watches as his little brother turns into a creature of legends… A werewolf. Everyone in the room is shocked, the kids that had heard the story from 99 earlier cower in fear, afraid that Rex might eat them. Cody doesn’t care about that… This is still his Rex’ika, his baby brother. And nothing will ever change that.
The witch looks around the room as Rex lays on the floor, breathing heavily. The force field goes away and she smiles wickedly. “Don’t worry, young prince. You won’t be alone with this curse.” Rex looks up at her, eyes wide. Tears are still falling down his face, wetting his fur. ”What!?”
“Yes! I have a perfect plan for everyone in this castle! I want to have some more fun” she lifts her hands up. "You all stand there like objects, so I’ll turn you into objects!” She sneers. The green aura engulfs the room, and everyone groans, Rex watches in horror as his friends and family start to morph and change in front of his very eyes. Rex feels absolute fear, he wants his bubby.
(Warning! Slightly gory and disturbing description of the transformations from this point. Note where it ends.)
But Cody is groaning in pain as well, and morphing, getting wider and less human. Cody’s arms and legs burn as they grow slimmer, wood growing all over his body. He forces his eyes open to check on Obi Wan, staring in horror as his beloved scratches at his skin as it becomes metal. He sees young Anakin doing the same. They both form into a suit of armour that covers their whole body from head to toe. The same is happening to Kanan and Plo too.
Fox and Thorn struggle to hold onto Ahsoka, not just because they are changing, but also because she is getting smaller. The once shattered music box starts piecing itself together, but leaves the ballerina there on the floor. Ahsoka cries and screams as she becomes unable to move her legs anymore and she starts to become older in appearance. Her clothes change too, into more of a ballerina's outfit like the one that the little figure was wearing before.
Echo and Fives scream in pain as they transform, Both of them shrink as Fives' hair starts to become waxy, turning white in color. It's not just his hair, his whole head from top to his top jaw turns into wax, so does his hands, and the rest of him, including his bottom jaw, turns to a gold metal. Echo starts to grow a mix of metal and wood all over his body, the twins cry in pain as they shrink.
Kiara is the same, yelling out for her mother as the top half of her body becomes wood and the bottom half morphs painfully into feathers. All three of them have tears running down their faces, as they scream from the worst pain they’ve ever felt in their young lives.
Stutter screams loudly in pain, this is somehow worse than anything his brothers and father had ever done to him. “R-R-Rex!!!! C-C-C-Cody!!!” Young Stutter screams for his brothers, he's so scared. His body is becoming wood, his arms are sucked into him, morphing to his sides as his legs morph together and become the familiar bristles of a paint brush. He screams, looking over and seeing Sabine in the same predicament. He cries as he starts to shrink. “F-F-Fives!!! E-Echo!!!!! B-B-Bly!!!” He tries one last time to get one of his brothers, to no avail, he’s all alone once again.
Kix, Jesse and Hardcase all fall to the ground, screaming out in agony as they feel their bodies beginning to change. Kix wraps his arms around himself, squeezing his eyes shut to try and block out the pain coursing through his body. He becomes rigid, unable to bend any of his limbs as they straighten out. His legs morph together and his arms sink down into his body. His blood becomes colder as it starts to turn to ink.
Jesse starts to get wider and thinner. He starts feeling lighter and when he looks at his hands, they flop backwards as they become paper thin. It doesn't take him long to figure out that he's actually becoming paper, because his skin turns dramatically pale. As his body becomes thinner, he starts getting smaller too. Hardcase's body from his neck to his feet starts to turn to wood as his body becomes narrow.  He screams at the searing pain rushing throughout his head as it becomes metal, his facing becoming longer and sharper with each passing second.
Hera feels her body start to morph into light, it burns as she is transported to the mirror she was looking into only hours before, she looks around at the room around her, she bangs on the glass, unable to get out. The room is only grey, the only thing in it being her. “Kanan!!!” She screams for her husband, the last she saw of him he had fallen to the ground in pain, she has no idea what he might have become.
Bly falls to the ground in pain, his whole body starts to burn as it turns to metal, he screams in agony  as his head splits into three. He shrinks, turning into a fork. Ten year old Wolffe doubles over in absolute agony, along with the 9 year old twins, Sinker and Boost. And the youngest, seven year old Comet. They all grow smaller as they turn to ceramic, Wolffe screams as his body widens, going hollow once it turns completely too glass, lessening the pain some thankfully. Plo tries to fight through the pain of his own transformation to get to his boys, he hates that they have to go through this pain.
(Gore ends here!)
Rex can't believe his eyes. Everyone has completely changed. They aren't even...alive anymore? Though he can still hear the groans from everyone as their transformations finish. He looks towards Ventress with piercing anger in his eyes, but she just laughs at everyone. She feels content now that she has had her fun.
"I don't know what you are looking at me like that for. You are the one who has caused this! Now your friends and family will share your punishment." She cackles as she surrounds herself in a cloud of green smoke, creating a whirlwind. Once it clears, Ventress is nowhere to be seen.
No...what have I done? Rex thinks to himself as he sees everyone start to move again without being in complete pain and agony. He presses his ears back against his head, feeling consumed in guilt and regret. The room is almost silent, the only sounds being slight shuffles around the room as people adjust to their new forms.
Cody had heard every word that Ventress had said to Rex, about her saying that this is his Rex'ika's fault. He tries to shuffle to Rex, calling out to him to comfort his little brother "Rex'ika." Rex hears the familiar nickname, looking towards the direction that his Ori'Vod's voice came from.
"Bubby…" a second later, Rex bolts out of the room and runs as fast as he can. Away from everyone. Cody calls out to him and tries to follow, but he can't move very well at all. Everyone else doesn't know what to say. Their expressions are a mix of fear and confusion, not understanding what has just happened to them. All anyone can really think about is Rex's safety. They need to know that he's alright...

Star Wars as if it were like the Office! (Also i need a title, so if anyone has any ideas for that or any suggestions in general, let me know.
Also, sorry if this sucks. I don’t write very often nor have I ever written a screenplay type of thing before. I honestly just did this for fun!
PART 1
“Anakin, what are you doing?”
“I’m standing on the edge of this balcony.”
“Yes, I can see that. Why are you standing on the edge of that balcony?”
*pan to the chaos of Coruscant below; ships speeding in traffic, huge buildings, and an insanely long drop. Obi-Wan is standing behind Anakin on the part of the balcony that’s made to be stood on; Anakin is on the edge of the railing*
“Uh, well, some of the clones said there was no way that I could jump and land in one of the ships flying through the city, and I told them I definitely could, so here I am.”
*Obi-Wan looks to the camera in annoyance and disbelief; camera pans down to Anakin’s end point where Fives, Echo, and Jesse wave up to his position*
“Absolutely not. Get down from there right this instant!”
“Sorry, Master!”
*he jumps, and he is flying through the air for about two seconds when he suddenly freezes. Obi-Wan is looking down at him as he holds him mid air with the Force, slowly raising him back up to eye level*
“Anakin, you are twenty years old. Could you maybe start acting like it?”
*he drops him onto the floor; Anakin gets up and sulkingly follows Obi-Wan out of the room*
*this would be where the theme song and title card would go*
In the background: “yeah, so Obi-Wan refused to let me jump, so I had to come back here. Sorry you all waited for nothing”
*Obi-Wan turns to the camera*
So, does Anakin do this sort of thing frequently?
“Oh, yes. He doesn’t seem to care about safety or his own well-being. That’s the third time this month I’ve had to stop the Balcony Jump. And clearly I’m the only one who thinks these are bad ideas, so I’m always the one who has to step in. I swear I already have a few grey hairs from having to stop Anakin from doing something stupid so often.”
*back to normal scene*
“Alright, everyone gather around, we have a new mission to discuss.”
*anakin, ahsoka, and many of the clones from the 501st and 212th gather around Obi-Wan*
“The chancellor seems to think it’s a good idea for us to go investigate a possible takeover on Ryloth….” *fades out as we zoom in on Anakin clearly bored and not listening*
“I hate debriefings. When Obi-Wan does them he talks for forever. They’re too long, so I just tune him out and pretend like I know what I’m doing on the actual mission. When I tell the others what we’ve been assigned, I take 2 minutes tops. Master Obi-Wan stretches it into at least 10.”
*now to ahsoka*
“Yeah, Master Kenobi goes over every single detail in the mission log every single time. I’ve had to slap Anakin awake in the middle of a meeting too many times to count.”
*back to obi wan speaking to them all*
“So, we need to go in and investigate the distress signal’s purpose, mainly to see if it’s a separatist attack. Anakin, you’ll be positioned here and you’ll direct your troops to-Anakin?? Are you listening to me?”
*obi wan turns away from his whiteboard where he’s drawing out strategy to see Anakin staring slightly up at the ceiling. Anyone else wouldn’t have noticed, but Obi wan knows his past-padawan turned Jedi Knight too well*
“What? Oh, yeah, of course I am.”
*interview with obi wan*
“Anakin is a terrible liar. You’ll soon find that out.”
*switch to interview with Anakin*
“Luckily for me, I’m an amazing liar, so I’m not worried.”
*back to the scene. Obi-Wan has his hands on his hips in his judgmental pose™️ facing Anakin*
“Oh really? Then what did I just tell you to do?”
“Uhhh I have to hold my position, lead the 501st, all that jazz”
“Mhm and where is this all going down?”
“Uh, Iridonia of course.”
“You literally could not be more incorrect.”
*obi wan int.*
“Told you so.”
*anakin int.*
“Okay, in my defense, there’s thousands of planets. I had like a 1% chance of guessing correctly.”
*back to the scene*
“Ryloth, Anakin. Ryloth is where we’re going. A distress call was detected coming from the planet, and since the Separatists have a history of meddling with the peace of Ryloth and its citizens, we were instructed to go inspect. I will not repeat myself again. That is all, everyone get ready. You’re dismissed.”
*interview with Rex; clones preparing armor and weapons in the background*
So, are you kind of like the leader of the clones around here?
“Uh, I’m the captain of the 501st Battalion under General Skywalker’s command. I follow his orders and then lead my brothers to execute those orders. We’re one of the most successful groups of clones, so I take great pride in-“
*rex is interrupted as the camera switches focus to the background where Jesse Kix and Fox are all at each other’s throats. They’re stealing each other’s helmets and tossing them around. Rex turns to look*
(Sigh) “as I was saying…I take great pride in our success and professionalism.”
“Rex!”
“Sorry, gotta go do my job now.”
*they board the ships and head off to Ryloth*
*camera switches to Anakin on Ryloth*
“Can we please leave now?”
“Absolutely not, Anakin. We still aren’t quite certain what set off the alarm.”
“It was probably just an accident. There’s nothing here, Master. Ahsoka, back me up.”
*ahsoka is looking down at and messing with a data pad clearly not listening to Anakin*
“What? Oh, uh, yeah. Totally.”
“Were you even listening to me?! I was speaking to you, Ahsoka. Can I get a little bit of respect please?”
*obi wan looks at the camera like ‘are you fucking kidding me’*
“Listen, Master, I started to tune you out like an hour ago. All you’ve done is complain.”
“Because there’s nothing here! I want to go home!”
“You just want to get back to Coruscant in time to go to that party for the senators.”
“What??????!?!?? That’s absurd, master. Absolutely preposterous. I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
*cut to Anakin*
“Okay, I know exactly what he’s talking about, but I can’t admit it! There’s this politician gathering tonight and normally I wouldn’t be one to willingly seek out social gatherings-especially one full of politicians-but Padme is going and she asked if I would come. So of course I said yes. Also, they usually have those little cocktail weenies, so no way I’m missing that.”
*cut to obi wan*
“Anakin is terrible at hiding things, especially from me. He clearly wants to get back so he can go to the party tonight with Senator Amidala.”
Any reason why he’d want to go with her so bad?
“Oh, yes, you see my former Padawan thinks he’s sly, but as we all know he’s a terrible liar. He’s been pining after the senator since he was a boy. I assumed it would pass by now, but clearly he’s still infatuated with her. They’re very good friends but he still has his teenage crush on her. It’s very unprofessional.”
Will you be attending it as well?
“Oh, no. I’m not one for politics.”
*back to the scene*
“What? Master why are you going to that stupid thing? You hate those types of parties! Plus, last I checked, you are not a politician.”
*cut to Anakin*
“So I’ve never actually told Ahsoka about my secret relationship with Padmé…”
*back to the scene*
“Uhhhhh because I’m good friends with the Chancellor, obviously. He would like me there to….to talk about strategies. Yes. Strategies for the Republic.”
“At a formal gathering for politicians? That doesn’t even make any sense!”
“...you’re asking way too many questions, Snips. We have a mission to focus on! You’re better than this!”
*ahsoka looks suspiciously at him as obi wan shakes his head at the two of them*
“Now that you’re done bickering, will you two please go explore the blocked off caverns for any possible signs of life?”
*both, simultaneously and clearly annoyed*
“Yes, Master.”
——-
“You know, there’s nothing in these caves. He just wanted us out of his hair. He’s just keeping us busy.”
“How can you know for sure?”
“Because I don’t sense anything. There’s nothing in here.”
“Master Kenobi told us to do it, so that’s what we’re gonna do.”
“So you listen to all of his orders but not mine?”
“Well, Obi-Wan doesn’t lie to me, so yes.”
“Psh. Pssshh. I’m not lying to you...that’s ridiculous.”
“It’s not. Tell me the real reason you’re going to that party! I know that you’re lying!”
“I’m absolutely telling the truth. I don’t know why you’re so adamant about this. It doesn’t mean anything.”
“Oh please. Whenever you lie you start using big words and you talk faster than normal. Just tell me the truth!”
“Fine. My friend Senator Amidala was allowed to bring someone and since we’re friends she asked me if I would like to come along too. So I said yes.”
“That wasn’t so hard, was it? Makes sense why you’re so anxious about it.”
“Whatta you mean?”
“Oh, nothing, it’s just that you’re going to a party as the Senator’s plus one which she asked you to. It’s definitely a date.”
“Whaaaaaaaatt. It’s not a date. That’s ludicrous! We’re just friends. Plus, I’m a Jedi. We can’t go on dates!”
“Right, and you don’t have a crush on her.”
“I don’t have a crush on her! We’re friends! It’s extremely platonic.”
*int. With Anakin*
“Okay, so it’s not platonic. But I don’t have a crush on her because I’m married to her! If I tell her that I willingly break the Jedi Code whenever I want, then maybe she will too! And then what kind of Master would I be?!?!”
I thought you technically weren’t a Jedi Master.
*zooms in on anakin’s ‘I will fuckin kill you’ face”
*back to the scene*
“Right, and I don’t secretly steal your jackets when you’re sleeping when I’m cold.”
“What?”
“What?!”
“.....look, can we just get back to the mission?”
“Sure thing, Skyguy. Wait till Master Kenobi hears about this.”
*under his breath* “pretty sure he already knows...”
*scene switch to obi wan, he’s with Cody and many other clones. They’re in a room in one of the government buildings on Ryloth surrounding a beacon device. It’s a distress signal activator.*
“And you’re sure you didn’t do this, Mr. Syndulla?”
“No, Master Kenobi. I only use the distress beacon for serious emergencies. I have no clue as to who did this. There aren’t many people that have access, and it’s not something that just anyone can do by accident. You must enter a code and confirm multiple times.”
“Thank you for the information. Will you let us inspect the fortress for any intruders?”
“Yes, of course.”
“Thank you. Cody, take Waxer, Boil, and Gearshift to the west wing. Gregor, you and your troops take the left. Myself and Crys will start here. Report back if you find anything.”
“Sir yes sir!”
*we see Obi-Wan and Crys searching first. They stayed in the room where the beacon is kept. Obi-Wan is looking through digital records as Crys is underneath it looking at its internal parts like those scenes where someone is laying on a skateboard to fix a car*
“This is strange. There’s no trace of tampering with the records or files. Nothing was wiped. This doesn’t seem like sabotage or a distraction for something bigger. Crys, do you have anything?”
*crys rolls out from under the beacon*
“No, sir. Everything is wired and hooked up properly. No signs of sabotage or demolition.”
“Hmm.”
*Int. With Crys*
“I’m really good with robots and droids, so that’s probably why General Kenobi wanted me to tag along with him. Usually he takes Cody, but this is more of my field of expertise.”
*back to the scene*
“This is trivial indeed.” *he’s doing his beard stroke* “I wonder if the others have found anything.”
*switch over to gregor and his troops. They’re searching the left wing of the fortress. They’ve been interviewing many citizens of Ryloth. They’re not very successful*
“I don’t see the point in talking to anyone else. I doubt they’re gonna know anything. We should report back to the general.”
*int with Gregor*
So, Gregor, can you give us a little summary of what you do around here?
“Yeah, sure thing. Uh, I’m kind of like third in command here. I’m a captain in the 212th Battalion and that’s pretty much all there is to it.”
Your helmet is very interesting. It’s pretty unique compared to the rest of your brothers.
“Oh, this? Some clones have tallies, but these represent stitches.” *he points to em* “It’s basically just showing how many injuries I’d have and how many stitches I would’ve gotten if I didn’t have the helmet. I think it’s pretty cool.”
*back to the scene. They’ve found nothing*
“Yeah, I’ll comm the general.”
*gregor taps into his comms and contacts Obi-Wan*
“Gregor, have you found anything?”
“No, general, I called to report that we’ve found nothing out of place. The twi’leks we’ve interviewed seem like they know nothing. How about you?”
“No, sadly we’ve come across nothing either. The beacon hasn’t been tampered with whatsoever.”
“We’ll keep looking around. I’ll keep you updated.”
*he hangs up the comm*
“Alright, boys, let’s keep going!”
*we now cut to Waxer and Boil being lead by Cody. They’re going door to door in the right wing where the rooms are located asking questions*
“This is leading us nowhere, Commander.”
“I know, Boil, but General Kenobi told us to inspect the entire right wing. We only have three more rooms to do. Let’s go.”
“Fine.”
*they knock at the next door*
“Hello?”
“Hello, ma’am. My name is Commander Cody of the 212th Attack Battalion. We’re on a mission here from the Jedi council. The distress beacon gave off a signal earlier today and we were wondering if you knew anything about it.”
“I’m very sorry I can’t be of any help to you, Commander, but I know nothing.”
*suddenly, a small child comes running down the hallway laughing. She trips and falls and scrapes her knee.*
“hey, are you okay?”
“Waxer you know that’s not how you talk to a child!”
“I’m sorry! You know I get awkward around kids. Why do we always find a runaway child when we’re on Ryloth? Like, how has this actually happened twice?”
*boil ignores him and kneels down to the kid*
“Hey there. My name is Boil. Are you okay? Do you need help?”
*she looks a bit frightened still. Boil realizes he still has his helmet on so he takes it off.*
“Sorry about that. Is it okay if I patch up your knee? I keep bandages on me, you can even pick the color if you want.”
“...okay. Blue please.”
“Blue it is. So, why were you running so fast? Is anything chasing you?”
“No. I was just looking for my papa. And I’m bored. I played with his fun machine today.”
“His machine, huh?”
*the three clones look at each other with a look™️ and Cody comms obi wan*
“General? I think we found your culprit”
——————
“‘Wow Anakin, you’re such a genius. It’s almost as if you were right all along!’ ‘Why thank you, Master. I knew I was right, and now we can go home even though we could’ve earlier.’ ‘Yes, you’re so right. We should’ve listened to you the whole time-“
“Anakin, are you finished?”
“‘we should make you a master on the council. I admire you.’ Now I’m finished.”
“Oh, give it a rest, Master. We get it, you’re right, now let’s get you home for your date.”
*anakin freezes and turns slowly. They’ve been walking up the ramp to board their ship when ahsoka said that. Anakin is now very red in the face*
“....what. What are you talking about snips??!! I don’t have a date. I don’t date. I’m just attending a senator party with the Chancellor. A date. Psh. Psh.”
“But you told me-“
“LETS GET ON THE SHIP, AHSOKA!”
*obi wan just rolls his eyes as they board the ship*
*We’re back to Coruscant!*
“Finally, we’re home. I’m so tired from all the nothing we did.”
“Oh, Anakin, you are such a drama queen. We did our mission like we were supposed to. Now, can I please speak to you in private?”
“Yes, Master.”
“Even though you have complained a lot today, I still care about you Anakin, and I know you made a promise to someone else already. So, I will go inform the Jedi Council that this was a false alarm by myself. Maybe I’ll take your Padawan. But you, my friend, should go get ready for your senator party.”
*anakin hugs obi wan*
“Thank you, Obi-Wan. I owe you one.”
*anakin goes up to his apartment on Coruscant where Padme is; she’s on their couch reading something and already dressed when anakin comes in*
“I’m back! I’m finally back!”
“Hello to you too Anakin. I was hoping they’d let you out. You’re cutting it close this time.”
“I’m so sorry. We had to go to Ryloth for no reason and Obi-Wan wouldn’t let me leave until we knew for sure what happened.”
“Well, I’m glad you made it in time.”
“Me too. Obi-Wan is letting me skip the debriefing for this.”
*he goes to change into his formal clothes for the party. Padme is already wearing one of her super rad fancy senator outfits. Anakin has an all black suit cause you know he’s that guy™️.
*int with Padme*
“Anakin has missed a lot of these outings with me due to Jedi business, so I wasn’t expecting him to actually be here for this one. I’m glad he is. I don’t see him as often as I wish I did.”
Do you ever think of asking him to leave the Jedi Order then?
“Oh, no. Absolutely not. I would never ask him to give up his life like that. And I don’t want that either. He’s a great Jedi and he loves what he does. I would never try to take that away from him.”
*back to scene. Now they’re walking down the halls of the senate building on their way to the party*
“So, get this, Ahsoka is convinced that I have a crush on you and that this is a date.”
“I mean, she’s not exactly wrong, is she?”
“Well, no, but I don’t really have a crush on you since, you know, we’re married. And she meant date as in ‘you invited me to this thing but we’re not together but in her eyes, it’s a date’ kind of thing.”
“Hmm so she still doesn’t know?”
“No. I can’t bring myself to tell her. I love her, but I don’t want to taint her mind and views of the Jedi Code and council. It wouldn’t be fair.”
“A very good point. You’re a good Master, Anakin.”
“Thanks.”
*they then enter the party. Many political figures from across the galaxy are there already. Its purpose is unknown to us, but it is clear that it’s important but also not too serious. They speak with many different people included Palpatine. We have yet to actually speak to him yet. Anakin is eventually over near the snack table, a drink in his hand and another one being handed off to Padme*
“Here you go. It’s your favorite.”
“Thank you. So, are you having fun yet?”
“Well, I don’t think I’ll ever have fun hanging around any politicians but you, but it’s not so bad. Plus, these snacks are really good.”
*padme rolls her eyes but laughs at him*
“It’s nice for us all to get together like this. It’s important for the Republic.”
“Mm, indeed.”
*they continue chatting until Anakin notices someone across the room. Fancy blue outfit. Blonde hair up in a bun. He doesn’t notice who it really is until she comes a bit closer. He does the pikachu face and drops his drink, luckily catching it midair with the force as he apologizes to those around him*
“Anakin?? Are you okay? What was that for?”
“You didn’t tell me she was going to be here!”
“Who?”
*he points to her by nudging his head in her direction hoping Padme will see who he’s talking about*
“Her? That’s my friend Satine. She’s the Duchess of Mandalore. She’s-wait a minute, how do you know her??!?”
“Nothing bad, I assure you. I’m actually quite fond of her. I just wish I knew sooner!”
“Why?”
“Because that, my love, is Obi-Wan’s girlfriend.”

The Rex/Obi theory
Since apparently we can pin a post, bringing this back from the old blog even though I really ought to do a better write up and just post it as meta on AO3. As always, ship and let ship, we’re all here to have fun, etc.
First off: background sources. Post Blue Shadow Virus, the Naboo gave Rex a set of guns. They are very shiny, very nice, and named Negotiator and Vigilance. Now, given that Obi-Wan has “The Negotiator” as a title, one has to wonder about “Vigilance.” Since Anakin is known as “The Hero With No Fear,” it’s probably not him.
It has also been pointed out to me (thank you, @morecivilizedage) that Obi-Wan’s flagships were the Vigilance and Negotiator. Which…yeah.
Later on, it seems the shuttle that Cody and Rex take in Rookies is named The Obex.
…I am not a fan of the name smushing habit people have for ships, but that’s…kind of blatant.
Also, I recently found out that Sideshow put out an Obi-Wan figure, based on the 2003 Clone Wars design (the modern Clone Wars, and what’s declared current canon, was the 2008 version). To my admittedly limited knowledge, Rex does not exist in the ‘03 show. If nothing else, he’s not listed as a character on the IMDB page. HOWEVER, part of this figure’s design is a wrist com hologram – of Rex. Not Cody. Not another Jedi. REX. WHO DOESN’T EVEN EXIST IN THAT SHOW, WHICH HAS SCREENSHOTS SHOWN ON THE BOX. They didn’t have to call the hologram Rex, and it’s out of continuity to the presented Obi-Wan, and would calling this hologram “Rex” instead of any other clone really sell more figures?
Gotta admit that’s Interesting.
Now, given I totally pick and choose data from non-show sources (…see the horrific novelizations of The Clone Wars – or better yet, please don’t. Character assassination abounds), we need to look at the actual show.
It starts with the movie. Cody has a minimalist presence in there, whereas Rex interacts with Obi-Wan a lot. There’s several scenes where there’s some lovely close interplay, including a bit where Obi-Wan is ordering Rex to pull back – while gripping Rex on the shoulder.
Take a moment. Consider how often you see on the show Obi-Wan touching anyone. He doesn’t tend to initiate that, and it’s rarely outside of a combat situation. But that man can’t seem to keep his hands off Rex. Watch with that in mind, and please, feel free to tell me I’m missing things.
So back to the Blue Shadow Virus. When Anakin is freaking out to Obi-Wan because his wife and student are liable to be the first to die, he wants to know how Obi-Wan can not be on edge. “I’m just better at hiding it.” Take the parallels – Padme and Ahsoka are Anakin’s family. Now, Obi-Wan is prolly also having a HUGE internal freakout because they are in THE hanger that started Duel of the Fates in Episode I, but if he’s hiding the same sort of emotional breakdown, who is that about?
Parallels are important. Take The Deserter. That is THE  shipping episode. Watch how Obi-Wan reacts throughout: he’s grumpy at first, because Grievous is up to the usual shit. Then he coms in to find out what Rex’s status is – and upon hearing Rex has been shot, his immediate reaction is worry, concern – I’d almost say he’s distraught. His orders to Jesse to hustle up and help them take down Grievous is more snarled, harsher, and from that point on Obi-Wan has an edge to him that wasn’t there before. This particular battle has become personal to him, and when Grievous gets away, there is genuine ANGER that a Jedi should not be expressing. What the hells else has Grievous done this   episode or the last to merit that sudden change?
As for the literal parallels, Cut is Rex’s counterpart. They are contrasted again   and again throughout the episode, and that culminates with Rex bidding Cut and his family farewell – so that Rex can go back to HIS family. So. If Rex is Cut, then the kids are obviously the other troopers under Rex’s command, and who does that leave as Suu’s counterpart?
Who is it that Rex talks to immediately? G’on, guess.
Also, Obi-Wan cannot stop gushing to Cody about Rex. I imagine poor Cody has to put up with this a LOT.
In fact, we can show that he does! The episodes with the Zygerrian slavers  – Kidnapped, Slaves of the Republic, and Escape from Kadavo – are just chock full of this. The main crew takes out two BARC speeders. Anakin has Ahsoka riding shotgun in the sidecar, while Obi-Wan has Rex. The intriguing bit is that Cody is left for cleanup and directing the rest of the clones, even though technically Rex is ordinarily in charge of a larger battle group (depending on what bit of canon you’re looking at). There’s that exchange in the slave mines OP mentioned (2 slightly different versions and commentary are linked). There’s also the sequence where Rex gets permission from Obi-Wan to take the shot and be a bad ass on the villain (“I’m no Jedi” indeed). That interplay is subtle, and implies the two work together and closely enough that a glance and a nod are enough to convey what’s  going on. Sure, the 501 and 212 work together often, but Obi-Wan has his own second-in-command.
Interestingly, Cody does not show up after the first episode in this arc. Given that they have the voice actor on hand, and the Wolf Pack is called in at the end for the rescue, tossing Cody and some 212 into the mix would have been easy. So that dynamic has implications.
Not factual enough yet? Screenshots of character positioning being more like a romance moment than in a war flick not good enough?
Let’s go to the Citadel arc. There’s more of the circumstantial evidence, where Rex can be interpreted as having Obi-Wan’s back more than one might think is usual.
But then there’s this gifset. As the mixed 212 and 501 soldiers are thawing from carbonite, watch Obi-Wan in the background. He nopes out of Anakin and Ahsoka’s tiff, and goes over to chat with Rex and Cody. When Obi-Wan gets over there, he raises his arm to do the shoulder grip thing (like I mentioned above, in the movie!). It might not be clear from the gifs, but there is not enough time for Obi-Wan to do that twice before he goes to the one arm behind the back kind of “at ease” posture. When he steps away from the troopers to be the Actual Adult in the room to Anakin and Ahsoka, Rex stands a bit straighter, in proper military posture, and dusts off his armor. It might not be a universal gesture of “aw yeah, I’m awesome,” but it sure seems pretty satisfied. Poor Cody meanwhile is watching the move, which  helps capture the viewer’s eye (and leaves me wondering if he’s going “what the hell is up with you?” or “do not make me hose you down”).
I would honestly love to know someone else’s interpretation of that with un-shipping goggles on. ‘Cause I admit, I don’t see it.
That, folks, is why I ship it like mad. There’s more circumstantial evidence throughout the show, like how Obi-Wan and Rex interact (like a married couple, or in fact often like Anakin and Padme are presented at their best). There’s Rex being extra fancy and staring at Obi-Wan WAY more than Anakin in The Voyage of Temptation, otherwise known as “Satine and Obi-Wan in a Shuttle and Anakin Being Oblivious.” There’s the simple implication of the chemistry between the characters, though that is obviously open to interpretation.
This is animation. It takes time and effort and money to animate a simple shoulder grip, or a specialized gesture such as buffing one’s nails. Voice acting is an art where you have to convey so much emotion with what can be small adjustments to words. Scripts have to go through so much oversight and tweaking to convey a particular story, within the wide scope, and themes and plot threads have to be carefully considered. This isn’t chance, this isn’t one   writer/animator/storyboarder going off into the weeds because they had a Neat Idea.
I really do think it’s canon.
-----------
Random other bits I’ve gathered while re-watching the show:
During the movie, when Rex is told that General Kenobi’s been captured, he just freezes. He goes from digging around off screen for what I suspect is a new ammo cartridge, stills, then yells at the soldier that they have to hold  out, now keep. fighting. It’s less rallying the troops as a bit of emotional pushback.
During Voyage of Temptation, when Anakin is sassing Obi-Wan in the elevator about Satine the possible old flame, Rex is right there in the elevator with both of them (along with poor Cody). Rex isn’t on Anakin’s flank, but Obi-Wan’s (little odd, but I don’t recall offhand how they filed in). And Anakin is “sensing some anxiety” from Obi-Wan about Satine. I love how there’s now another reason for that.
In an…‘interesting’ coincidence, it seems that when Rex got shot in The Deserter, that’s the exact same place Obi-Wan gets shot in Deception. Nothing conclusive there, but it’s intriguing.
from The Zillo Beast Strikes Back – The first time we see Rex, Anakin is giving him orders to “Stay with General Kenobi” – there’s the implication that he’s already with the General.
They’re continuing to leave breadcrumbs in Rebels.

our bones are old but this tragedy is so new
Summary: Ahsoka takes Cody to Rex. Cody gives Rex a gift. AO3.  Part 3 of the “scraps” series. Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5. Warnings: Canonical character death, discussions of death and suicide.
Cody has not seen his own face for years. He knows he looks very different. He’s grown old faster than he should have and the Kaminoans messed with the clones’ genes too much and for too long for the Empire to see reversing the advanced aging process as economically viable. He still thinks he’s avoided the worst of it: his limbs aren’t twisted, his spine is straight, his shoulders don’t droop under exhaustion. He moves a little slower, a little stiffer. His hands are weaker than they used to be but they don’t tremble when he grips a blaster. He’s tired more often, sicker than he ever was when he manages to catch a bug, but that’s really all. He’ll die sooner than natborns, but Cody’s always known that. Besides, he’s outlived the one person he always hoped he’d die before; the only thing worse than going to Obi-Wan’s funeral is the fact there is no funeral at all. Old age, no matter how much he hates it, is pretty kind to Cody.
So it’s not something that bothered him until he’s seeing his reflection in Rex’s face.
“Since when did you get so old, little brother?” Cody wants to slap his own forehead as soon as the words are out of his mouth, but he can’t help it. Teasing Rex is second nature. Rex’s face twists comically, mouth working in complicated motions before he throws himself forward.
His brother’s arms around him are a balm Cody realizes he never wants to let go of. Rex is older too, and tougher, and bigger than Cody remembers. They hold on for a long time; Cody doesn’t feel any shame in tucking his face into Rex’s neck. He lets out a shuddering breath and Rex sighs against him, laying a heavy hand on the back of Cody’s neck. He knocks their foreheads together when he pulls back. Cody keeps ahold of his shoulder, sure he’ll disappear the second he lets go, just vanish into thin air. He’s seen others do it before, after all.
“ Kote .” Rex says, affectionate, awed. “ Kote .”
“Yes,” Cody agrees, a little wetly. “It’s me.” His brother’s hair is stark white. Ahsoka smiles at them over her shoulder before ducking discretely out of the room. Cody lets her go.
“I thought you were dead, Cody. Thank everything out there you’re not.”
Cody nods past the lump in his throat. Rex curls his fingers into the edges of Cody’s poncho, lifting the fabric to see the armor beneath. Cody doesn’t even realize he’s doing it when he reacts; he comes back to himself with a hand clamped around Rex’s wrist, squeezing too tight. Rex lifts a brow at him and slowly pulls back. “Sorry,” Cody apologizes. He almost starts shaking; he didn’t know he was doing it until it was done. He’d lost himself. He can’t-- “I’m sorry. Just. Please don’t touch this.”
Rex, the best vod in the entire batch, lets it go without comment. He nods at Cody’s chest. “You kept the trooper armor.”
Cody lays his hand over his sternum, where the insignia he’d made blazes across his cuirass . “With a few modifications. You’re suited up too. I didn’t want to be left out.”
Rex smiles. “Wouldn’t mind one of those designs myself.”
“It’s a good reminder.”
Rex’s arm is heavy and solid and comforting across his shoulders as they sit at the table in the small ship Ahsoka led Cody to when they'd gotten to this planet after a week's hyperspace travel. He’s sure she’s making changes to the navigation system somewhere; she’d told him she’d introduce him to the rebels she knew, people who could give him a job. But first she took him to Rex. Gratitude chokes Cody.  Still, the idea that someday in the near future he’ll get to pick off some Imperial officers makes his blood rush like it hasn’t since the last time the 212th got together.
Cody leans against his brother and breathes shallowly. He could sleep for a week; he’s been running on adrenaline and bad decisions, just keeping one step ahead of the Imps and following in his brother’s footsteps for weeks, maybe months now. He has Rex now. He has Ahsoka. Sleep wells up against the backs of his eyes but he forces it away; he might wake up and find this was all a dream.
“You could sleep here.” Rex was always too good at reading him. “I’d wake you if anything exciting happened.”
“In a little while. Just. Give me a minute.”
He fiddles with the edges of the robe to stay awake. For a few moments silence stretches between them like a warm blanket. Rex’s hand catches his. “What’s with this?”
“It’s...” Cody pulls away a little, clutching at a corner of the robe that drapes over his shoulder. He’s having a hard time meeting Rex’s eyes. “It’s his. Kenobi’s.”
“Oh. Oh, Cody .”
“Yeah,” Cody says tightly. His throat narrows to the width of a straw. “Yeah.”
Rex pauses delicately. “What happened?”
“I was still under, you know. Stationed on the Death Star with--with him. I think he liked seeing what happened to me. Like it--it gave him a thrill to see how much he’s taken from the Jedi.” How much he’s taken from Obi-Wan, Cody means. Rex nods jerkily and Cody remembers very suddenly that Skywalker used to be Rex’s general. He doesn’t have to wonder if Rex knows he’s Vader; Rex’s face is stony, his eyes smoldering. He knows. “Anyway, this princess from Alderaan, we picked her up after that fiasco on Scarif.”
“We lost a lot of good people in that battle,” Rex murmurs. Cody doesn’t doubt it. He’d seen the power it took to wipe that beach off the map. It makes him shudder just thinking about it.
“Yeah. So, this princess, she’s Organa’s daughter and she’s suspected of being a rebel. That’s confirmed now. She was being interrogated by Vader and some rebels, a small contingency, showed up to get her out.”
“They stormed Vader on his own turf?” He sounds vaguely impressed. “Why do I not like where this is headed?”
Cody swallows hard. “Because who do we both know who’s crazy enough to come up with a plan like facing Vader head on without backup?” Rex thinks for a split second and then curses vehemently. “Yeah, that’s pretty much what I said. Obi-Wan showed his face right when the rebels were about to get caught. I was--was one of the troopers shooting at them.”
“It wasn’t you,” Rex says. He shakes Cody’s shoulder when Cody refuses to look up from where he’s studying his hands. “It wasn’t you, Kote .”
“Sure.” Cody agrees, voice flat. His chest twinges but he continues. “So, Obi-Wan showed up and he must have sabotaged the ship’s system because the bay door opened and he held Vader off long enough for the rebels--three humans and a Wookie, and it looked like only one of the humans, this kid, actually knew Kenobi--to get away. But Vader--Vader killed him, Rex. It woke me up. He killed Obi-Wan right in front of me.”
He sits there, mouth cottony, throat clogged, eyes wet, and realizes he can’t breathe. His chest twinges again and now the pain won’t leave and his lungs burn but he can’t breathe. He’s struggling, cheeks soaked, but he can’t breathe and there are hands on his shoulders--they might be Rex, but they could be Obi-Wan’s, he used to hold Cody like this after a bad battle, it could be, it could--and he still can’t breathe but he can speak and he keep repeating it, repeating, “He killed him. He killed him. Right in front--in front of me, he killed him.”
It’s only when his head is shoved between his knees and held there that Cody starts to come back to himself. He taps at Rex’s knee until he lets up. Rex’s eyes are sharp and vigilant; one wrong move and Cody thinks he may get a hypo full of sedative to the throat. He hasn't had a good night’s sleep since Obi-Wan died, so he wouldn’t mind if it came down to that.
“You’re okay, Cody,” Rex murmurs, hand still on the back of his neck. “You’re okay.”
Cody says nothing, wiping at his sodden face as best he can. His chest still hitches with every breath.
“Kenobi--Obi-Wan was a good man,” Rex continues, and now his voice is tight too. He clears his throat gruffly. “He was a good friend and a fantastic general and the best Jedi, and I’m so, so sorry Cody.”
“I saw him die Rex. I tried to kill him when the Order went out.”
“It wasn’t you. You’re here now.”
“Do you--do you miss Skywalker, Rex?”
It’s a cheap shot, a low blow. Cody shouldn’t ask it. He does. Rex stiffens beside him but doesn’t pull away. “I miss who he was before he became what he is,” Rex whispers back. “But I--I worked with you and Kenobi for a long time too, Cody. I can’t miss him like you can, not when I know you loved him. But I can miss him with you, too.”
“I wanted to die with him.”
“I know. I wanted to die when I found out about Vader.”
Cody guesses that’s fair.
Obi-Wan would tell him this is healthy, that letting his grief out is the first step to getting rid of it. He’d give Cody tea, probably, and let him talk until it was all out, like expelling sickness from the body. He wouldn’t judge, just like Rex doesn’t judge. He’d hold Cody when he cries. He’d do all of that, if the Jedi weren’t dead, if the Republic weren’t dead, if Obi-Wan weren’t dead.
Cody blinks suddenly, and pulls away quickly. Rex startles but doesn’t draw back. He watches, bewildered, as Cody rummages through his rucksack. Beneath their feet, engines roar to life; Ahsoka’s getting ready for take-off, then. Making a small sound of triumph, Cody pulls something out of his pack and holds it aloft towards his brother.
Rex takes the scrap of fabric with both hands, gingerly, and looks to Cody for an explanation. “It’s his sleeve,” Cody tells him, hoarse still. The tears just keep coming back, so he doesn’t bother to wipe them away again. “Ahsoka’s got the other one. I’ve got the rest, obviously. He--he wasn’t your general, but you’re right. He was a good friend of the clones.”
“Cody…” Rex turns the cloth over and over in his palms. He holds it like something precious. Cody’s heart swells a little. When he looks up, Rex’s eyes are wide and overbright. “Are you sure?”
“You’re the only one who understands,” Cody says, honesty making him lightheaded. “The only one. I’d be honored. Obi-Wan would be too.”
Rex curls his hands into fists around the offering and nods, solemn. His face is old now, and weathered, and matches Cody down to the last detail. There are tears in his eyes as Rex answers in their mother tongue, “ I will carry it, always .”
Cody bites his lip, breathes in, out, in, and finishes the Mando’a phrase every clone knows as acknowledgement of a gift. “ May it give you strength in battle .”
“ May it protect us both ,” Rex amends, and Cody curls his hands around his brother’s. They hold the fabric together and let it begin to heal them, stitch by stitch.

“Old Friends Not Forgotten” Review and Analysis
Spoilers for Star Wars: The Clone Wars S07E09
If you are interested in my reactions while watching the episode click here
If you want to read my rant about the thing that made my cry the most in this episode click here (disclaimer: I was still crying while writing this and that may have clouded my opinion about the scene. In this review I will go into more detail about that)
So then let’s get started! I have calmed down and feel now emotionally ready to actually interpret and analyse the scenes and not just bring across my emotions. But this still is only my personal opinion! So if you disagree that is fine, just please don’t be mean about it.
So the first scene we get is a parallel to the movie (aka the first arc of TCW) which I think is a pretty amazing idea. It shows how Anakin and Obi-Wans relationship has changed and how it has stayed the same. Anakin is as cocky and arrogant as ever. But this time he is not Obi-Wans student anymore. He leads his own men with his own plan and is just coming from his own solo-mission. Yes he wasn’t Obi-Wans Padawan in the movie and Rex was under his command back the too but their dynamic was still different. He still sees Obi-Wan as his former Teacher and as a Jedi Master and part of the counsel he is technically still above Anakin, but they act more on an eye-to-eye dynamic. More like brothers than father and son.
Anakin uses a smiliar trick as Obi-Wan did back in the movie. (I don’t know how the Republic and the Separatists handle that but it is considered a war crime in our world... Since Obi-Wan did it and never got called out for it I guess it is okay in their world...) But of course Anakin puts his own spin on it. That is I think a pretty good way to show how Anakin learned from his master. He did watch and listen but he is not like Obi-Wan. He likes to do things his way. And as long as it works he won’t stop.
Their friendly banter in this scene is also really in tune with the way they act with each other in the beginning of ROTS (especially in the deleted scenes). So it is not hard to believe that this takes place only days before.
Tumblr media
Before Anakin does his own thing Obi-Wan says: “I know better than to try and stop you.” I really liked this line. Not only because it was funny but also because for me it had a bit of an bitter aftertaste. He does not approve of Anakin’s actions (or methods to be exact) but he doesn’t do anything about them. Anakin is an adult and Obi-Wan is done with his education but his former padawan is far away from being a Jedi Master.
Then we have the first moment with Rex. Again a beautiful example of their dynamic. The other clones do what Anakin say (they have to) but they also are a bit annoyed by their general and his plan. Rex on the other had has Anakin’s back, as usual. And he motivates his men to follow Anakin. The trust these two have in each other is just beautiful! Rex trust that Anakin knows what he is doing and Anakin trust that Rex is taking care that everything works. I am pretty sure Rex wasn’t given more than a few instructions haha
Tumblr media
Anakins plan works and he learns nothing except that he was right. Again. I am not gonna go into to much detail about Obi-Wan and Cody but I will say this. As usual they care about and trust each other. Cody is like a friend and not just some clone to Obi-Wan and knowing that makes Cody picking up Obi-Wans lightsaber in a few weeks so logical. Also it makes Order 66 as usual even sadder.
Tumblr media
I can’t help but feel that is episode feels like part of a movie. The opening battle. Very Star Wars. That would also explain the new intro and outro. A very nice ending to the show. Staring with a bad movie, finishing with good one. All in all this episode really played on nostalgia about the TCW Movie and I love it!
Okay back to the episode.
Ahsoka used the name Fulcrum for her transmission. It is a nice callback to Rebels and to the Ahsoka Novel. But with the republic (for example Yularen who becomes a impirial officer) knowing that she uses that name it feels like a bit risky to me to use it in the rebelion as a code name... Maybe I am thinking to much about that but yeah I had to write that thought down. Also Anakin first thinks it is Saw Gerrera, so that means he came up with that name? This just confused me...
Tumblr media
So now I going to try to fangirl not to much about Anakins reaction to Ahsoka, which is hard. But I am going to talk about it because it is very important for his character. I personally don’t remember the last time I saw Anakin this happy. Ahsoka coming back into his life is for him obviously a thing he had wanted and hoped for for a long time. But at the same time he is so surprised that it happened.
The next feeling he goes through is concern. He is just immediately concerned about her and the reason she is contacting him. Perfect Anakin moment. He loves his adoptive daughter and of course he is scared about her wellbeing. He is Anakin! He always scared about the women in his life. So having this poking out under his happiness was a good call.
Obi-Wan on the other hand is just surprised. And Ahsoka herself is very distant. (gonna go into detail about that in a second)
The talk Obi-Wan and Anakin have while walking to Ahsoka’s ship is also very interesting. You can see Anakin trying to find a reason for her leaving. Like it is the will of the force. Meanwhile Obi-Wan has a mixture of quilt and anger. He was partly responsible for Ahsoka being kicked out of the order and therefor also for her not returning. But it also feels like he is mad at her for not retuning. Maybe (that thought had just crossed my mind) he is angry at her for breaking Anakin’s heart. After all Obi-Wan had to piece him together again. (There is an unfinished scene form the original 7th season were they talk about Ahsoka.) And now he feels like she should not be let off the hook just like that.
Or he really just angry that she left the order that he believes in.
Tumblr media
Again we have a nice callback to the movie. I really love those. They feel fitting.
R2D2 is just amazing as usual and greets his masters daughter like a good boy.
Ahsokas face goes through so much in a matter of seconds. She looks at R2: happy. She looks up at her former masters: scared and unsure. She takes a step: confident. That is genius! I especially love that little moment of fear in her eyes. It makes so much sense when you look at her in the rest of the episode! And I personally think that it is Obi-Wan that she is cold towards. I think she has not forgiven him at all for his part in her trial. And she is not at all ready to face him. But she puts on a brave face because she has a mission bigger than her.
Tumblr media
At first when she stopped Anakin I was a bit upset but i get it now. She does not want to have this in front of Obi-Wan and Bo-Katan. Anakin staying behind for a second and putting himself together again is also really fitting I think. He was so excited to see her and she is cold towards him. He either does not see that it is not about him or he feels the tension between her and Obi-Wan.
Tumblr media
Anakin again becomes worried dad when she mentions Oba Diah. And it feels like she would want to tell Anakin but she has Bo-Katan next to her and Obi-Wan in front of her so she doesn’t. She also seems surprised that he still cares so much about her. I think she expected him to be a upset with her and not as open and happy as he is. (Maybe that was why she looked scared in the scene before...)
Tumblr media
“What is one more?” This sentence is big. I mean yes Bo-Katan is not a friend of the Jedi and not a friend of Obi-Wan. But it also kinda shows the overall frustration with the Republic and the Jedi in the galaxy.
Anakin lighting the mood with a joke...that is just pre-Vader Ani at his finest!
Bo-Katan is not wrong in this scene but after everything she had done to sabotage Satine she should really get down form her high horse here!
You can just feel the tension leaving the room when Anakin and Ahsoka are alone. They start to banter and she immediately smiles. These two have still so much love for each other and truly enjoy each others company. But after that there is this small moment of silence. Again perfect moment. It just shows that regardless of that there is baggage here.
Tumblr media
While walking down that corridor Anakin acts like a worried dad again. “It doesn’t matter to them. It is a sign of respect. They know what you went trough for them day after day. Battle after battle.” I choose to believe that he is also talking about him self when saying that. It is his way of telling her that he is proud of her. I don’t think she picks it up but the way he talks about it...that is his opinion of her for sure!
The Helmets...I just love them. I am not going to talk about them much. Their meaning is obvious and this is getting really long. I will also skip Rex for now (don’t worry he will get his paragraphs) same with the lightsabers.
Ahsokas face...she just feels proven right about the Jedi...
Tumblr media
So I am not sure if Anakin’s worry is about Padme or the Chancelor. I mean they talk about the chancelor and he is close to him. But he looks really worried so maybe Padme?
Tumblr media
Ahsokas and Obi-Wan argument. The scene is amazing! I have to say that. It showed their morals pretty perfectly and both are kinda right. Again the tension between them makes sense. It still hurts to watch it.
But also Anakin standing between them awkwardly is kinda fitting with his arc. He is so happy this whole episode that it is hard to see ROTS Ani but I think it still ads up. He knows they are both right. The war has to be won but also Mandalore needs help.
Tumblr media
“Unfortunately Ahsoka is no longer a part of the grand army of the republic.” That one sentence made so mad at Obi-Wan. Yeah, he is technically just saying a fact but his attitude. He is partly responsible for that he takes no blame! Even Ahsokas reaction is just like: Are you kidding me right now? She just looks at him for a second and she looks so disappointed and hurt.
Tumblr media
And Obi-Wan, he continues to look at her after she looked away and I don’t know but I see a bit of regret in eyes.
So apparently Anakin can promote Rex just like that. Don’t know why he never did it before. I mean we all know Rex would deserve it. But better later than never, right?
Interestingly enough the tension between Ahsoka and Obi-Wan is gone so quickly. It is fare away from their friendship in previous seasons but still. There is respect there again.
Tumblr media
Of course Obi-Wan has to make a Kenobi joke before leaving. That really made me forgive him, at least a bit.
“Thanks for the support, as always.” I have not nothing to add to this sentence. Ahsoka’s words nailed the point I want to make about Anakin in this scene.
Okay now on to the lightsabers. Two things. First, he must have had them with him on the whole siege! So that means that Anakin Skywalker kept her lightsabers with him at all time to either remind him of her or just in case she came back to him! Yeah, attachment is problem with this boy...
Tumblr media
Secondly...they are blue. All of Ahsokas lightsabers are green up to this point. So he either got her knew crystals or he played with them so much that the took on his lightsaber color. I don’t know what to say about that.
Ahsoka rolling her eyes at his braging is just wholesome. Nothing more to add there.
Tumblr media
I really love their dynamic when they are alone. It is so pure and happy and loving...
“Good thing I taught you otherwise.” So again a sentence with so much meaning. Filoni just loves throwing these in there, right? Let’s analyse it (bc that is the purpose of the post after all). With this sentence he basically tells her that it is okay to disagree with Obi-Wan and that he is not holding it against her in any way. He himself does it. Especially with the scene from before in mind that is so powerful.
We have heard a multiple of Jedis saying that luck doesn’t exist so Anakin saying that shows he does not care about what the order thinks is right. He has his own right and wrong. For now that is not problematic but we all know who that ends...
And that means he tells her he raised a good person and not necessarily a good Jedi in her. (it is really late, my english is no longer working properly) Hopefully I got my point across.
The way Ahsokas stands in this shot... She is not a little girl anymore. She is a fighter. A warrior.
Tumblr media
“Anakin! Good luck.”
Tumblr media
I really have to take all my strength to stay calm while writing this. I don’t want this to be too emotional.
So. Okay. *takes a deep breath* Ahsokas last words she ever says to Anakin Skywalker. The next time she talks to him he is Vader. Good words. Less than I personally wanted but good words.
After what he told her before it is just so poetic. She wants the best for him. She wants him to be lucky. To succeed. But after what he said it is more. So much more. It is a rejection of the Jedi and an embrace of the light force. And... Damn with everything that is going to happen in ROTS having Ahsoka telling him words that the Jedi reject is just...
Moving on before I lose my mind. We still have Rex to cover.
Anakin and Ahsoka think they will see each other again. They think that they will win and be together again and then they can figure out what to do about everything. About them. About the Jedi. About Obi-Wan.They have no idea what the future has in store for them. And it is perfect. I aligns perfectly with other star wars media. ROTS, Rebels, Ahsoka Novel. They don’t hug. They don’t say goodbye. I hate it but it is perfect.
I love that Rex got promoted but he is gonna be Captain Rex for me forever. Captain or Sir. But he really does deserve his promotion!
Because this is really long already I will not talk about Bo-Katan and the Mandalorians but focus on Ahsoka and the Clones.
We get an amazing banter between Rex and Ahsoka were Ahsoka proves that she is Anakins Padawan after all and that she has Skywalker energy. It is really amazing to see her in her element again. She can use the force whenever she wants and kicks ass! This really was her childhood.
Tumblr media
And then she saves a Clones because that is what Ahsoka Tano does. She knows casualties are a part of war but she saves who she can.
Tumblr media
Rex is so happy to have her back! He smiles and smiles just like Anakin. And just like with Anakin Ahsoka is so relaxed with Rex. They are her home!
I just love the cinematography of her fighting. It really is just watching a Star Wars movie. I can’t wait to watch the whole arc in one go!
Tumblr media
“Beat you.” “Some things never change.” Wholesome. This is just wholesome.
Tumblr media
Okay so that is it for me. I know there is still Maul and Bo-Katan to cover but I will talk about them after next episode!
But I will say this in conclusion: This is episode was stunning! Like everything was beautiful and meaningfull and thought out and detailed! I truly love this episode! I already watched it three times today. And I am so amazed by the animations! The characters facial expressions were on point! I had so much fun analysing them!
I hope that was interesting to read and honestly I am surprised if anyone got this far. Anyway I really loved watching the episode again frame by frame and note my thoughts (this took me 6h btw)

one of the previous anons here -- we're all busy passing the tinfoil hat back and forth right now, huh. there's been a wave of speculation in some discord server(s) I hang out in, over whether or not all the details/potential hints are substantial or just plain overanalysis... it really feels like the remaining bits of ambiguity (re: crosshair's chip) are gonna hang over our heads us until s2 starts airing. and, hey, on a related note -- d'you have any hopes/predictions for s2?
Tumblr media
But yeah, obviously there's no way to resolve the question of whether this is complex setup or overanalyzing until we see how season two plays out. I suppose we could look to TCW for ideas? But that's a mixed bag imo. Some things had fantastic payoff, other things petered out, some stuff took years to come back around (so not getting something in season two doesn't necessarily mean much), others worked well but were hindered by the jumps in time... TBB is its own thing and can rise or fall despite TCW's precedent.
Predictions though... you know, I don't think I have many? I don't know the canon well enough to say what all is coming in the grand scheme of things/what other characters exist from separate media that we might see. Every once in a while I see a post like, "Omg maybe ___ will show up/happen next season!" and I'm very lost lol. Hopes though are numerous. Unpopular opinion perhaps, but I hope we continue getting a fair amount of "filler" episodes because I love character focused content. I'd really like to see Omega developing more of a bond with Echo and Tech after spending so much of the first season with Wrecker and Hunter. All the Crosshair stuff mentioned. Some exploration into the Batch's long-term plans/their own hopes for the future. More Rex because I love him dearly. WHERE IS MY BOY CODY?
Actually no, I take that back, I'm too terrified of what the show might do to Cody lol.
And also, not a prediction because season one pretty thoroughly debunked this, but at the start of the show I was headcanoning that Omega's skill was some kind of a mimic ability. Idk how in the world that would work (it's more fantasy than sci-fi) and the more I think on it the worse an idea it is for the show as a whole, but it stuck with me because of Omega's first reactions to danger. She manages to perfectly hit the rifle out of Crosshair's hand despite never having picked up a blaster before. When Hunter passed out she managed to find the airship part and says she tracks it down just like he would. There are a couple of little moments with Tech where she seems to be picking up the intricacies of this machinery very fast for whatever age she is. Sharpshooting, tracking abilities, intellect... I was honestly half expecting Omega to demonstrate amazing strength around Wrecker at some point; that all this success would be explained with something other than Omega just being really, really skilled/lucky for a kid clone with no training. But then we had the unaltered cloning reveal. It's one of those weird headcanons that I don't actually want to become canon — if anything, I'd like Omega to be a little less skilled/eager to become another soldier — but the theory stuck with me 🤔

Got any headcanons on Obi-wan, Cody, Waxer, Boil, and the 212th?
Oh, dear Chaos where do I start?
First, I’m going to list two fanfictions I wrote which are literally the answer to this wonderful question. Here and here. But I also know not everyone wants to read such things so here’s a giant condensed list of random headcanons that are in the stories and a few bonus ones that are not.
At the beginning of the war, Cody would freak out and panic every time he lost his General because “it’s a clone’s responsibility to see their General stays alive” Obi-Wan was not happy when he found out about this
Obi-Wan has tried to get his men to call him by his name and not “General” or “sir”. It hasn’t really worked out for him
Wooley is made a captain at some point and becomes Cody’s right-hand man in the 212th
Waxer and Boil come from different batches. They met each other after their respective batchmates were wiped out, leaving both alone. Waxer needed someone to watch him and Boil needed someone to watch.
Cody and Obi-Wan often drink tea at their briefings and strategy meetings. Sometimes these meetings go late into the night and they both end up falling asleep on the floor/console.
Cody is a pillow to everyone... because reasons (read the first fic and you’ll understand)
Waxer is a prankster. Boil tries to make him stop and fails miserably.
212th pillow piles in a training room after a long hard battle or whenever the men just feel like it.
Cody is the best hand-to-hand combatant in the GAR.
Obi-Wan runs away from medical bays and will refuse medical attention until he passes out. It happens a lot and every time it happens Cody gets annoyed and prepares another lecture for when his General wakes up.
((Canonically, the 212th has no canon medic’s listed. So I went ahead and made two (technically three now that I’m thinking about it but whatever).))
Stitch- OG head medic of the 212th, a batchmate of Cody’s, can curse in 7 languages, amused by some of the General’s injuries (mainly how they happened), and loves to tease Cody about watching the General better. Patient, kind, and willing to put his foot down when someone is trying to escape (Obi-Wan). Died in a small skirmish and Cody had some depression after that.
Bacta- transferred from the 616th,  grumpy, loud, yells at his patients and will sedate them if they try and escape. Refuses to call anyone by their military title (”Kenobi, have you seen Cody?”) and hasn’t been court-martialed for it for reasons no one can figure out. Also refuses to call any clone by their number (and if they don’t have a name yet then he just calls them “kid” or “vod”). Armor has the first letter of every brother he failed to save on it (which is a secret to everyone but him. And a shiny who is blackmailing him over it). He’s killed after Order 66 because he refused to remove his armor. So the Empire shot him.
Bacta chases certain people (Waxer) around with a sedative if he catches them touching his medical equipment
Obi-Wan is secretly terrified of Bacta to a degree because he always seems to know when he’s trying to escape the med bay.
Waxer was learning Twi’lek from Obi-Wan before he died. Boil started learning after Waxer died.
The 212th was told Obi-Wan died during the Rako Hardeen incident and had their own funeral for him and spent the next few weeks going through the mourning process. When he came back they were relieved, then ticked
Obi-Wan talks in his sleep sometimes. It’s how Cody found out about Qui-Gon Jinn
Most of the time Obi-Wan goes missing and the 212th panic and look for him, usually finding him with the 501st or up a tree (it’s happened more than once, weirdly enough)
But when Cody goes missing, Obi-Wan also freaks out and when the General is obviously worried, the rest of the men panicx100. Long story short, Cody is not allowed to go missing anymore as told by his General, all of the 212th, General Skywalker, Rex, Wolfe, Commander Tano, and General Yoda himself.
Cody constantly asks how General Skywalker turned out the way he did. Then Obi-Wan makes one of his dramatic entrances/exits and he’s like, “There it is.”
Obi-Wan loses his saber more than Anakin. Cody doesn’t bring it up to anyone.
Cody and Obi-Wan are bros, in my head. Nothing more, nothing less.
Obi-Wan has been turned into a dog at some point (see the second fic)
When the 212th and the 501st get together, they have a big party. The 212th brings tea and the 501st brings fireworks. Neither are surprised the first time it happens.
After Order 66, Vader can’t stand the sight of Obi-Wan’s men so he disbands them and scatters the men. However, he keeps Cody in the 501st because he can’t let it completely go. (Meanwhile, CC-2224 is looking at Commander (whatever Appo’s # is) and can’t help but think that’s not the right man in charge of the battalion. It’s supposed to be someone blonde)
Post Order 66, Boil somehow escaped from the 212th and went to Ryloth (I think he had his chip removed by Rex later or something). He stayed there protecting Numa until his dying day (which involved getting killed by Wooley who was under the chip’s influence)
Also post-Order 66, Wooley became a purge trooper with one of those electro-staffs and was most likely killed by a certain ex-Padawan on the run (looking at you, Cal Kestis) Yay!
Post 66, Cody served the empire and was eventually found by Rex, who took the chip out. Cody then had a mental breakdown and was looked after by Rex until he left the rebellion. Cody had enough fighting in his life, thank you. In an ideal world, Cody found Kenobi hiding on Tatooine and got to apologize to him.
And I’ll stop there because dang this is getting long.

Clone Wars fic Day One
So @stoppit-keepout gave me 'Abdicate' as a prompt word, and this sprung forth, but SK I promise I will write you something else for a fandom you're actually in. Meanwhile, please enjoy the first chunk of a very random modern au featuring cody and Obi-Wan being goddamn disasters. Hopefully there will be a new slice of this universe every day until New Years, but who the hell knows.
Obi-Wan meets Cody at the Big Brothers Big Sisters Christmas party. He's there with Anakin, who has just been kicked out of another foster home and is clearly feeling celebratory as a result. Obi-Wan has given up asking about the experiences Anakin has that lead him to prefer group homes or sleeping rough, but he can make some educated guesses.
Ahsoka and Plo are there as well, having shown up early along with Wolffe to set up the decorations. They're all showing off the official adoption papers to whoever will stand still long enough to read them, and Wolffe and Ahsoka don't say anything to each other without including "sister" or "brother" somewhere in the 'address while Plo looks on like he's never realized his life could be this perfect.
"Hey, big brother," Ahsoka says, "is your cousin coming? I think Kix will like him."
"They'll be here as long as Rex's car can make it," Wolffe says. "They were going to pick up Jesse from his grandma's, so they might get stuck in bridge traffic."
"Rex's car is held together with literal duct tape," Anakin explains in an aside to Obi-Wan. "I keep telling him I can fix it, but he won't let me."
"I didn't know Rex's brother was going to mentor Kix," Obi-Wan says.
"It's not official," Ahsoka says.
"There will be a proper introduction," Plo assures him. "Cody has already been approved, but you know how Kix is."
"Smarter than anyone they've paired him up with?" Obi-Wan says, calmly. He's rather defensive of Kix, even not having a particularly close relationship with him. He's had to train himself out of his impatience with people who can't keep up with him, and he can appreciate Kix's unwillingness to waste his time. Qui-Gon would scold him for such thoughts, but Qui-Gon is currently half way across the country at some sort of plants and yoga retreat instead of spending the holidays with his wife or his step-father or his not-really son and the child who worships the ground he walks on.
It's fine. Obi-Wan isn't bitter. Tahl is spending Christmas Eve drinking wine with her coworkers from the library, and Obi-Wan and Anakin are here, and Christmas Day they'll all trek across the city to Dooku's disgustingly fancy mansion for an awkward Christmas meal and criticism of their life choices. At least with Qui-Gon absent everything should remain civil. Unless Anakin's teenaged bravado has developed further in the past year. Obi-Wan is doing Anakin the favour of pretending to believe him when he says he doesn't care about Qui-Gon's absence. He suspects Anakin is doing the same for him, which is uncomfortable for a whole host of reasons.
"I think Kix and Cody will get along," Wolffe says, tongue between his teeth as he carefully glues googly eyes on a felt snowman. Obi-Wan catches Plo snapping a photo, clearly amused.
Obi-Wan lets himself get dragged into the cookie decorating catastrophe happening on the other side of the room, and he remains entirely engrossed until Mace claps his hands and shouts, "Pizza's ready, I need two volunteers to go across and pick it up, who's going with Kenobi?"
Obi-Wan throws up his sugar-coated hands indignantly. "What have I ever done to you, Mace? Am I not a delight, a breath of orderly, reliable, and charming fresh air—"
"I'll go," someone says, and Rex appears out of nowhere to shove Obi-Wan toward the coat wrack. There's a dark-haired man already there, snow still caught on the collar of his jacket, clearly not having been inside long enough even to settle in.
Obi-Wan sighs dramatically for the entertainment of the younger children, but the way he wipes the icing off his hands on Mace's jacket is entirely for himself. The dark-haired man, Rex's brother, he has to be, frowns severely at him. Obi-Wan smiles brightly.
He pulls on his coat and winds his scarf around his neck and over most of his face.
"I'm Obi-Wan," he says. "And yes, this scarf was a gift and I will be guilted terribly should I not wear it."
"Cody," he says. "I'm Rex's brother?"
"Yes," Obi-Wan says. "I had guessed as much."
"Present from your grandmother?" Cody asks, holding the door for Obi-Wan.
"The scarf? No, no, my... semi-absent father figure, actually. His step father bought him a book on knitting as a teenager and he has somehow maintained the habit without improving his skills over the past thirty years."
"Ahh," Cody says, uncertainly. "So have you been involved..." Cody waves a gloved hand uncertainly. "With this, I mean— this is the first time I've been to any sort of event—"
"No, no," Obi-Wan says, understanding the question because it is exhaustingly familiar. Because clearly only people with biological nuclear families have healthy and ideal childhoods. "No, I only got involved a few years ago. Qui-Gon, my... father, met Anakin at the food bank. Anakin was there with his mother and Qui-Gon was volunteering, because sometimes he remembers that he grew up rich and has week-long bouts of frantic guilt-induced philanthropy. Anakin became quite attached to him, and when his mother passed away we spent a great deal of time helping him through the fallout. Naturally, Qui-Gon lost interest shortly after, but by then Anakin's social worker had gotten us involved in BBBS."
"I presume he hasn't improved at emotional intelligence with age, either? Given his absence."
Obi-Wan laughs, startled. "Not at all, actually. And you, what brings you here? Did Rex wear you down?"
"He told me about Kix," Cody says. "Admittedly this isn't my first choice when it comes to giving back to the community, but I wouldn't feel right knowingly walking away from a job for which I'm uniquely suited."
"It's not a job," Obi-Wan says, sharply.
"I'm sorry," Cody says. "You're right."
They cross the intersection in silence. None of the sidewalks are shovelled and Obi-Wan swallows down his irritated rant.
"I said that poorly," Cody says, hunching his shoulders. "I only meant that this level of social interaction and engagement with strangers— I'm not good at it. That's all I meant."
Obi-Wan, who has never particularly experienced or understood this sort of struggle, smiles sympathetically. "Of course, very understandable."
Cody's eyebrows go up. "I'm sure. You don't need to lie to spare my feelings."
Obi-Wan jerks open the door to the pizza restaurant harder than he intends to. "I apologize."
"I wasn't offended."
Inside the heat is stifling in contrast to the chill of late afternoon. Obi-Wan huffs a breath through his scarf and steps up to the counter. "They need two minutes," Obi-Wan tells Cody once he's exchanged words with the person behind the counter.
They lean together against the wall, dishwater dull sunlight splashed across the tiles at their feet. A drop of sweat creeps down Obi-Wan's spine.
"You should take your scarf off," Cody says, after a moment, like he's been trying to stop himself.
Obi-Wan blinks uncertainly, then agreeably pulls the scarf of his face, loosening the loops around his neck and unzipping his jacket a few inches.
Cody stares out the window. "Sorry. You're obviously hot," he says. "It's boiling in here."
Obi-Wan doesn't know what to say, given that he has absolutely no reason to have left the scarf pulled up and thus has no leg to stand on when it comes to the oddity of the moment.
Back at the community centre they're descended upon by a rush of children and teens, stacks of pizza boxes snatched from their arms and vanishing into the crowd. Obi-Wan glances over to the cookie table, and is unsurprised to see the lack of progress.
It takes a few seconds and some bouncing up on his toes to find Kix, and when he does it's to see him curled up on a hard plastic chair in the back corner behind the water cooler, cell phone pressed to his ear, his other arm wrapped around himself and looking very much like he's trying to remain calm through an exceedingly distressing conversation.
Cody is standing very still, hands clasped behind his back, eyes darting around and clearly unsure what to do. Obi-Wan, who is a good person, says "Come on, then. While I recognize that it's meant to be the process of decorating the cookies that holds the value, I also am physically incapable of leaving a job half done, and now that the real food has arrived I suspect no one else will be doing it."
"Yes, ok," Cody says, quickly.
Anakin finds them five minutes later, half a piece of pizza in his mouth and a spring in his step. "Rex is gonna let me take a look at his car!"
"I'm glad," Obi-Wan says, and means it. He may not trust Anakin with a lot of things, but when it comes to mechanics Obi-Wan trusts him far more than any "professional".
"you guys should get some pizza before it's all gone," Anakin says. "Hi, by the way. You're Cody, right?"
"Yeah," Cody says. "You're Anakin."
"That's me. And now I'm a little worried that rex talks about me."
"Would you believe me if I said only good things?"
"I accidentally pushed him off the roof of the old theatre last winter," says Anakin. Cody nods.
"We're busy with this," Obi-Wan says, nodding to the cookies. "Besides, the pizza should go to the youth, not to us."
Anakin rolls his eyes. "Whatever, it's food, we're all here, don't make it weird."
"Busy," Obi-wan repeats.
Anakin waves a hand. "Hey, hey, I get it. You're finally getting to experience an extremely stereotypical holiday tradition that you never did when you were a kid, and it's nice because you've been all fucked up with Qui-Gon away."
"What?!" Obi-Wan snaps, incredulous, at the same time Cody says
"That's exactly what we're doing, actually. Couldn't have said it better myself."
Obi-Wan considers upending the container of sprinkles over Cody's head.
