LIKE WHAAAAAAAAAT!?! LIKE I COULD ACTUALLY TALK?!?! PSA for all the writers out there. When people stutter, they tend to repeat syllabus, letter clusters, or even entire words. Very rarely do people stutter on single letter. For example:

"Did-did-did-did it work?" and "Hap-hap-hap-happy Birthday!"

vs.

"D-d-d-did it work?" and "H-h-h-happy Birthday!"

Ok I don't like Joe Biden much and I know he's not in the race anymore, but we need to talk about the blatant fucking ableism some of y'all are doing with the whole "can't form sentences thing."

I cannot stress this to you enough.

Joe Biden HAS A STUTTER.

He has never lied about it, it has been with him his entire life, he's gone to speech therapy for it, and it has been well documented throughout his entire career as a politician.

His stopping and starting and rewording is, in fact, something he has done his entire career. Granted, not to this extent, it's clearly gotten worse due to the stressors of being The Fucking President and old age, but this IS NOT new.

There are many things to criticize Biden for. Having a literal speech disability while giving speeches and working in one of the most insanely stressful communications jobs in the world is not one of them.

If your disability advocacy stops when there's a funny joke to be made about a public figure being publicly disabled, please utterly and sincerely fuck off.

You've always struggled with your speech. It wasn't the best when you were younger, but as you got older, you just developed a small stutter. Some days it wasn't bad, you'd only stutter on a few words, but on the bad days, it was every other word.

Nick, Matt and Chris helped you a lot with your speech. Helping you with the exercises the speech therapist gave you and would often read to you when you were younger.

As you hit high school and the guys moved to LA, you would call everyday to tell them what happened and they would instantly know if it was a good or bad day depending on how you talked.

The guys were home in Boston as your birthday was right around the corner so they wanted to spend longer at home catching up. You were sat on your bed, playing on your phone, when Chris poked his head in.

"Hey kid, wanna go get ice cream?" He asked.

"Sure." You replied shortly.

He smiled as he ran off, screaming for Nick. You laughed and slipped some shoes on before going to find your three brothers, all of which were waiting by the door, Chris laying on the floor.

"Why....Why are you on the floor?" You asked.

"Nick gut punched me." He groaned, sitting up.

"He fucking jumped on my back!" Nick shouted.

You laughed as Matt just rolled his eyes, grabbed the keys and started walking to the car. You soon followed, leaving the other two arguing.

As a result of that, you climbed in the front of the car, making Chris whine once he realised and had to sit in the back with Nick.

"If you....If you were quicker and....and s-stopped being a little ba-baby you'd be here!" You shouted, your stutter more noticeable as you spoke.

"Your the baby not me." Chris mumbled.

Matt then drove towards your favourite ice cream place. You looked out the window quietly. The car wasn't too loud for once, but you knew that would change soon.

When you arrived at the ice cream parlour, you all got out and saw it wasn't busy, which made you all more relaxed. You stood looking at the different flavours, when Nick looked down to you.

"What flavour would you like, sweetheart?" He asked.

You kept looking for a minute before pointing to the bubblegum flavour. Nick gave you a comforting smile.

"Come on kid, you can say the word." He said.

"Don't wanna." You muttered.

"Come on petal, just try." Matt said, appearing the other side of you.

You sighed and took a deep breath. The time you stuttered the most was when you said words with B.

"B...Bub....Bubblegum." You said slowly.

"Nice job kiddo!" Chris praised, making you smile.

Nick then ordered all the ice creams you wanted as you went to sit with Matt at a booth by the window. Matt took your hand, making you look at him.

"Wanna tell me why you weren't going to say bubblegum?" He asked softly.

You shrugged, but Matt could read you like a book, all of your brothers could. He gave you a small smile as Chris and Nick came over, passing you the ice cream and eating theirs.

"We're not going to push, bub, but if something is bothering you or someone, especially about your speech, we're here to help." Chris said.

"Just so-some kids at school. Nothing....Nothing to worry ab-about." You answered.

"What are they saying?" Matt questioned.

"Teasing." You admitted.

"Punch them in the face." Nick said, making you laugh.

"Maybe don't do that, but have you talked to mum or dad?" Matt replied.

"No...Tryin har-hard." You replied.

"We know you are, kid, but it's okay to ask for help." Chris said.

"We're proud of you, sweetheart. We understand it must be hard for you, but please don't stop talking, it's okay to have a stutter and we're always here to help. Your the most hard working teen we've ever met and we love you, okay." Nick said.

"Love you t-too." You responded, making them smile.

Anon I'm sorry - I deleted your ask from the Tumblr inbox by accident but luckily it went to my emails too :)

I never mind it when people send me prompts or characters/ideas to consider! I can't always do anything about it (which you obviously appreciate from the tone of your ask), but I do always enjoy reading your interests and wants for future stories.

I'd definitely include another werewolf with a stutter! I also have a stammer, but it's not as marked as Alfie's one, so I'm glad you felt seen by it.

I've actually been developing yet another new universe, and I think I've found the perfect wolf character to fit your desires, except it's not a modern fantasy universe, so there won't be a werewolf with a stammer in the Full Moon Motorcycle universe (though there is a shy and grumpy one called Theo, who's Hank's nephew). I hope you're happy with that compromise?

This new universe is one where werewolves and shifters are not generally known. The prince of the kingdom has recently established his own, elite group of soldiers among the royal Army, known as the Direwolf Guard. Each elite soldier lives at the barracks and trains particularly in their specialism, and they are assigned to a unit of other elite guards/soldiers. In the barracks there is a huge compound/area where the Direwolves live. The population at large believes these creatures are highly intelligent animals, bred for war, but that they are animals only. The truth is that they're shifters - able to take a human form, and with the intelligence and emotions of a human...

The soldiers of the Direwolf Guard are given the opportunity to work with and interact with the werewolves, going on missions together etc. but some may form a bond or a soul-deep connection with each other, which allows them to feel what the other feels, and, with time, even communicate telepathically. A bond cannot be forced, and it doesn't have to be romantic. It's just something that happens.

I've got a bunch of characters lined up but I'll 100% include your suggestion in this universe! Thank you :)

being disabled (specifically having a diagnosed stutter), and being extremely extroverted and opinionated, is SO funny, because ALL of my 4 electives this year are:

Musical Theater

Speech and Debate

Student Council

and Cafeteria Aid.

NOW what do all these have in common? If you said constantly speaking, you would be right !! Especially with speech and debate, which prides itself on fluency. I may be cooked this year, but I’m cooking in style </3

ANYWAY no I am not doing more speech therapy to change how I speak, I was diagnosed at age 9 with a stutter and went thru 2 years of speech therapy, 5 years later and it has barely gotten “better”, but idrc because I make important and valid points, and just because of my disability DOES NOT mean they shouldn’t be heard </3

I got to meet Alex Brightman at MCM London! I’ve got a fun Fizzarolli headcanon based on our conversation/the speech impediment we both have!

About the conversation:

When meeting him I found out he also has a stutter, and mainly struggles with the same type of stuttering as me too! I’ve always called them “silent blocks” while he called it a “chest stutter” where rather than repeating the sound like you usually see in stuttering characters, you just can’t say anything.

(I only found this out because I couldn’t say my own name)

He told me one of his speech therapists taught him that you use different parts of your brain for making things up vs performing when it comes to speaking, I did not know this! This is how people with stutters can talk fine on stage and he said he tries to think like he’s performing during the autographs and conversations with fans, because if he didn’t it would take longer to get his words out.

Headcanon:

The accident gave Fizz a stutter.

Fizzarolli already has a damaged voice, and I know stutters can also be caused from injury, Alex didn’t mention any injury so I’m assuming he was born with his too.

Fizzarolli was also trying to be “perfect” while working for Mammon so him being in the performing mindset all the time to act perfect and avoid stuttering seems in character.

We already have a stuttering Fizzarolli with the Robofizz at the circus!

Fizz is my favourite and my favourite Fizz episode released on my birthday (1 year ago today🎉) so I’ll project my impediment onto him as I’d like

i stutter and i work in customer service

i have strangers, grown-ass adults, mock me, laugh at me, or otherwise belittle me all the time

and it makes me mad. not because it’s mean but because they’re always soooo apologetic. i’ll confront them about it and say something to the effect of “what the fuck stop that i have a speech impediment”

and that feels stupid because i shouldn’t have to give them a reason to stop being mean to me. they shouldn’t be mean to me in the first place!

and then, their response always, without fail, “i��m so sorry!!! if i had known…”

and that makes me even angrier. what did you think was going on? that i was doing that for fun? furthermore, i don’t give a fuck what is or isn’t going on with someone you shouldn’t treat anyone like that (especially someone you don’t fucking know)

and then, because it’s customer service, i have to tell them “oh it’s alright, don’t worry about it :)”
