thought to myself how absurd it was that nightmare has so many designs to himself alone.

I don't think I know other characters that have this many drastic changes done to them just in the span of their plotline. like y'know, sometimes characters do change from certain events, maybe get injuries, different clothes or haircut, or go through arcs that change their personality.

but nightmare here literally changes to entirely different characters as the plot goes on, design wise and personality wise.

and it's super fitting for him, cuz he's the one character that puts the theme of identity on the forefront. he spends his entire life searching for what it means to be 'nightmare', so he goes through a thousand different identities to find the one that truly defines him. but at his core, he's still the same nightmare he's ever been.

even after becoming king and becoming everything he thinks he ever wanted to be (rich, powerful, ect.), he's still unhappy with himself because he spent all this time rejecting his actual true self in favor of being somebody that wasn't (and could never be) him.

what truly defines nightmare is that he is bound to no limitation on what he could be, but still choses to put those limitations on himself.

what truly defines nightmare is nothing, and being nothing scares him to death, so he would rather be everybody else but himself, not once considering that maybe he could've changed that nothing into anything he wants, but fear just blinds him that much.

the irony of it all is that all he truly wanted at the end of the day was to be his own person, to be someone outside of sans's shadow, but only ended up jumping from sans's shadow to mettaton's. the only way he found to not be a clone of sans was to become a clone of someone else.

damn... maybe the true nightmare was the friends we made along the way.

I love shipping characters who hate each other in canon.

I love shipping characters who have had exactly one (1) conversation in canon.

I love shipping characters who have never met in canon.

I love shipping characters from different pieces of media.

It starts off silly. The notion of the pairing is so weird, so unexpected and seemingly dumb that it makes me laugh a little, perk up, look into it and see if this is really a thing.

And then it becomes a joke. Haha, look at this ship I’m shipping ironically, isn’t it silly, it would obviously never work out in canon but I’m looking at it and producing content for it anyway because it’s fun.

But as time goes on, it starts filling my feed. I start thinking about it - really thinking about it. Why did someone put these characters together in the first place? How would they really interact? How did they end up together, and why would they stay together?

What started out as a joke becomes a diving-off point, an opportunity to really think about both characters. The dynamic isn’t canon, so it’s yours to shape. The dynamic isn’t canon, so now you must delve into each character on your own, figure out how you perceive and understand both of them, learn to see them in a different light. What started out as a joke encourages you to dig deeper, think harder, fall even more in love with those characters as you consider the potentials which lie outside of canon, but which ultimately trace their roots through the core of the characters themselves.

Because by their very nature, crackships and rarepairs are not based on plot, and they are not based on canon. They are so seemingly random and odd that they disrupt your typical view of these characters, making you think more deeply about them. The non-canon ships you embrace or reject can inform your perception of these characters on a deep level. They can make you cry just as easily as they make you laugh. They add so much flavor.

And they can also be really, really funny.

2019.... thats crazy... sorry for taking forever to respond to this gahaha i got busy. unfortunately (or not) i really dont have much of my art from around then - i tend not to save my stuff unless i have to send it in, like a commission or something, but ive also switched a lot of laptops and hard drives since. if youve known me before 2019 even, id have to assume you know me for splatoon... i dont go there anymore and i have, genuinely next to nothing ive done for it, but i drew this for you just now. sorry i couldnt feed you an ample supply of my older stuff! hope im a better artist now than i was back then :"D

I'm kind of art blocked rn and I wanna know how others' feel because they seem to vary like crazy (If writers or other creative hobby/job people wanna answer, just switch drawing out to fit your thing)

Mine feel wrong like I can't sketch well for my life and the pen feels more difficult to control/too harsh and my hands feel wrong, and then I keep staring at the canvas and clearing it like some kind of creative bootloop, repeat for about a month.

Given the limitations in the options and nuance to the topic, just pick your biggest issue you deal with.
