Kieran has me in a chokehold. His character arc is so GOOD. You can tell that his bitterness and anger doesn’t just come from everything that’s happened to him recently. It’s pretty obvious that he’s been living in Carmine’s shadow for a LONG time and she’s always kinda treated him badly. But it wasn’t until the player character came along that he was finally able to voice that in his own way;; Just when he thinks he’s made a true friend in someone, someone that can and will stand up to his sister and is able to defeat her in battle (which inspires him to start speaking up for himself more), Carmine steals them away. And that’s a big betrayal to him. He clearly has self esteem issues which leads to him thinking that Carmine was talking shit about him behind his back and getting the player to believe that he wasn’t worth being friends with. And that makes him think both of them were laughing at him and making fun of him. And THEN the player goes and takes the last thing that Kieran has, the last thing he truly cares about: Ogerpon. It’s no wonder he got so frustrated and petty and lashed out 😭 Still breaks my heart to see but they did a really good job showing that progression of him losing more and more of his patience with Carmine. And him generally feeling like everything he cares about is being torn away. And losing to the player over and over just makes things WORSE. He’s not strong enough to beat them, he’s not strong enough to stand up to his sister, he’s not strong enough to be worthy of Ogerpon, he’s not strong. He needs to get stronger. Stronger and stronger and stronger.

GODDDD. He’s going to live rent free in my brain forever now. I can’t wait to see the direction they take with him in The Indigo Disk

From off-panel, Arven says, "'Mince the onion…'" Panel Two: Holding a knife and looking despondently at the open book, Arven says, "…I dunno how to do that." Panel Three: Trying to seem confident, Arven lifts his head and says, "W-well… No point in doing nothing!" Panel Four: Arven stands on a stool against the counter, saying, "I'll just…" By the stool, Maschiff is sleeping. Panel Five: Arven exclaims, "Ah!" and stumbles, shaking the stool. Panel Six: Arven holds his finger with a pained expression and tears welling up in his eyes, mumbling, "Ow, ow, ow…" Panel Seven: Arven falls over, revealing a bloody finger. Startled, he lets out an "Uh--!" Panel Eight: With a "Crash!", Arven lands on the ground. Panel Nine: Arven, sitting on the floor and looking even more in pain, stays silent. Panel 10-12: Arven looks over to the exit of the kitchen, almost hopeful, towards a room labelled "Rm. 113 P.T. Lab." No response from the lab is forthcoming.

Panel 13-14: Arven becomes distressed, and begins crying. Panel 15: Maschiff jumps towards Arven and begins to lick his face with a concerned "Chf!" Panel 16: Arven, now smiling but still crying, hugs Maschiff and says, "Haha, it's okay, buddy. I'm okay." Panel 17: Hugging Maschiff closer, Arven asks, "…Do you know how to mince an onion, buddy?" Panel 18: Maschiff walks towards a bag of onions on the ground, which prompts Arven into saying, "Huh?" Panel 19: Maschiff holds on onion in his mouth. Arven, from off-panel, says, "Um."

Panel 20: Maschiff begins to aggressively maul the onion with a "Grrgraaaa" Panel 21: Arven looks blankly towards Maschiff. Panel 22: Arven says, "…I dunno how to do that." /end ID]

I did Karaoke for my birthday a bit back and had a lot of fun, so I got to thinking about what songs these two might do, and of course they'd do Pokemon songs! I immediately thought of OK! 2000 for Kabu since the singer screams at the top of her lungs right at the beginning, haha. Larry's voice is softer in Japanese than I expected, so I thought of something a bit quieter for him - Soko ni Sora ga Arukara. It turned out the lyrics for that kind of fit!

When you become tired from trying so hard, Look to the sky as you shed your tears. The wind brushes your cheeks, I'm sure it'll say: "It's okay if you fall. You are you and that makes you wonderful!" Those that haven't been hurt cannot see the blue sky. On a journey you hesitate to walk on, your life will shine.

Since the lyrics were in Japanese I figured I should write them out for real instead of Romanizing them, which made me realize just how long it's been since I've written in Japanese, haha. I bet my handwriting is terrible...
