The Castle

Yandere! Dark Choco x Gn! Reader

The castle was big.

The castle was cold.

The castle was quiet.

The castle never let a sound out.

The castle never let an outside sound in.

The castle had heavy doors that kept you locked in.

The castle, it was all his castle.

Your family sold you off to the highest bidder.

You were always told you were never good enough to run your family’s kingdom, that you didnt have what it takes to rule. Your perfect younger sister was put in charge.

Your family didnt want you anymore, thought you were just weighing your sister down. So they sold you. They didnt care who wanted you, just wanted you out. Your sister was ment to marry Dark Choco, heir to the Dark Cacao Kingdom, a powerful nearby kingdom.

You father had letters sent to kingdoms saying he was marrying you off to anyone that had interest.

a mysterious letter came in saying they would buy you for four million. Your parents of course accepted and had your bags packed and sent you off as fast as they could.

thats how you got in this situation. In the arms of the man your sister was ment to marry. You didnt love him, he treated you like a pet, a doll even. You tried countless times to offer back the money he spent for you but he always declined. His eyes held a certain look of lovesick, obsession, and possessiveness. The way he looked at you made you wanna curl up and cry, the way he would pull his sword out every time someone that wasnt him talked to you.

“My love, you’re so pretty..” One of his hands snake around your waist, other placed on your collarbone playing with the black gem necklace he dressed you up in.

You choose to look off into the distance, ignoring what hes saying.

“hm. Wont you speak for me darling?” Dark Choco’s hand inches closer to your neck until its loosely around it.

You look at him in his eyes. “I wanna go home” you whisper.

Dark Cacao just looked at you, his hand on your neck moves up to grab your chin, forcing your face closer to his. He stares into your eyes for a bit before speaking. “You are darling.”

Tears escape your eyes, onto his hand trailing down is wrist, then falling onto your lap.

“My family needs me” you sob. Your vision begins to blur and you cant see the his menacing smile.

“If they needed you they would have never sold you off, now would they?” He loosen his grip on your face and caresses your cheek with his thumb. “You should be on the throne right now, ruling the kingdom that is rightfully yours. But no, they chose your younger sister.”

He was right, he was always right.

“But its alright, your mine now. I’ll give you the life your parents couldnt seem to give you.” He kisses your tear stained cheek.

Note: this little wip has been almost for a month in my keep notes. It came from the original idea I had for my Vxlentine's oneshot, and that oneshot became a bigger AU idea that I couldn't end in time for the event day. I don't know If it'll se the light someday so... here it is:

The beach ripples crashed softly against the white sand, causing each time it did so to make a light “splish” sound. The comforting aura caused him to walk closer to the scenery, his mind racing to someone special as he did so.

The moon ever so slightly shone on the ocean, the darkest of the gloomy blue water suddenly turning into a majestic silver field. The specks of silver sparkles on the sea, catching his attention.

With every step closer he took toward the mesmerizing scenery, he wished more and more for her company. A low and deep breath left his lips. He contemplated whether he should call her and invite her, or just leave it be.

A few moments of complete silence went by before he slowly took out his phone from the pocket of his jacket. His cat-like eyes scrolled up and down in search of the contact he had saved her number with. Freezing as he found it.

It was never like this.

He never knew he’d feel overwhelmed by calling his closest friend over to the beach. Although he did feel nervous around her sometimes, but that was explainable, right? Of course, he had to try and ruin their friendship of five years due to his stupid crush.

But that is what jungwon does. He had to let it out, tell her how he felt whenever he saw her flirting with some other boy who wasn’t him. He wanted her to at least know, whether it be she had the same feelings for him or if it was merely to let her understand how he felt about her.

His finger lingered a slight moment on top of the call button, pressing it after a little while. As he heard the line ring for a few seconds, he could hear someone picking it up and answering it with a short and confused “hello?”

Clearing his throat, jungwon answered back, internally face palming as a stutter left his lips. “Hey”

A smile tugging on his delicate lips, yet knowing she couldn’t see him. “Are you free tonight?” he nervously inquired, thinking about the multiple replies she could give him.

His cat-like eyes widened in surprise as he immediately got the response he’d been wanting from the girl on the other line. “No, im free. Why?” Hearing those words come from her made his smile grow bigger.

“Oh, I just wanted to know if you wanted to hang out.” His lips parted in hesitation before continuing what he was about to say. “I need to tell you something.” A few moments went by before he could hear slight shuffling coming from the other line.

“Yeah, sure, where should I meet you?” She asked back, putting on her zip-up sweater as she did so.

He thought for a few moments before speaking. “I’m at the beach right now, but I can come to your place.”

Earning a light giggle from her side. He could feel a slight blush rise on his cheek due to the melodic sound. “Alright won, I’ll see you then.”

The walk to her home was quite short since she lived relatively near the beach. Causing Jungwon to be more excited than usual to see her.

As he saw the familiar house in front of him, he came to a stop. Seeing the girl already waiting for him in front of the gates. He walked in front of her, watching her as she looked intently at the device in her hands, mumbling some incoherent words every few seconds.

“What are you doing?” he asked once he stood in front of her, causing the girl to curse in surprise.

“What the fuck! You scared me” Her startled expression made his smile form again, the deep dimples on each side of his porcelain cheeks visible as day. Earning a smile from her too.

“Sorry, not sorry” He chuckled, causing her to roll her eyes and lightly hit his arm. A slight frown appeared on his lips as she did so, making her hang her arm around his neck.

“Let’s go, hm?” she started roaming the dark streets with the company of the boy beside her.

Once they were finally back, both of them had each of their ice creams as he’d bought them on the way back. They enjoyed their little treat quietly as they walked back.

Jungwon's eyes ever so slightly gazed at her as she was enjoying the ice cream he’d bought her. Her eyes looked straight ahead as they crinkled up due to the grin plastered on her lips while watching the ocean water crash against the white sand.

“So…” she started, looking at him now. “What did you want to tell me?” Her head tilted to the side, noticing that his breath had hitched.

“Um..” thinking for a short while, jungwon decided not to tell her, as he was too afraid of all the possibilities of her reaction.

A frown formed on the girl's lips after he said so, her eyes squinting at him in an intimidating manner. “Tell me won, come on.” She whined, trying to get a response out of him.

His brown, shiny eyes lowered to look down at his feet caressing the beach sand with his shoes, before mumbling out some incoherent words she could quite frankly not make out.

Confusedly, she had tilted her head to the side watching as his lips were continuously moving yet she could barely make out a word. “What did you say?”

Watching him as he slowly shifted his attention from the ground to her, she furrowed her brows together.

“jungwon, what did you say-“ Her words got cut off, by the loud tone of the guy in front of her.

“I love you.” His eyes lingered on hers, watching in anticipation of what she would do next, not daring to let out a breath due to the tension between them.

The air between them became suffocating as he watched her chest slowly heave up and down. Her eyes widened in surprise at the sudden confession.

“I have loved you for as long as I can remember, yn,” he added to it, slowly moving closer to her as he gently tried to hold her hand, still not getting a response. As he slowly starts getting more anxious by the second, he suddenly lets all his feelings out to her.

“It makes me go insane whenever I see you with some other guy that’s not me, and I know I don't have the right to, but,—” Without a moment to think, he could feel her soft lips collide with his, gently moving together in sync.

Slowly pulling away, she looked at him, a smile already evident on her lips.

“I love you too won.”

drew's first thought when he realized he had an eighteen-hour layover in new york was that he had to see you. it had been almost a year since your breakup, sure, but he couldn't just miss this opportunity because you weren't together anymore.

"drew, what do you need?" you sigh as you answer the phone, internally thanking the universe that your new boyfriend wasn't home at this exact moment. 

"hey, uh, i'll be in new york tonight. i was hoping you'd want to meet up." he answers, bag at his feet while he's on the way to the airport.

you freeze up a little bit, glancing around at your apartment, at the new life you've made for yourself with your new boyfriend. "i don't think that's a good idea..." you reply quietly. you weren't about to admit that sometimes, when your boyfriend was asleep next to you in the bed you shared, that you think about how much you missed your ex. or that when he would play music in the shower that it was one of drew's favourite songs, too.

"come on, y/n/n. what's the harm?" drew chuckles. 

"what's the harm? i have a boyfriend! that's the harm!"

"oh, please." drew rolls his eyes. he's never met your boyfriend, but he still follows you on instagram, and occasionally you would curse yourself for not blocking his number, or his social media, but you couldn't bring yourself to do it. "i'll level with you, babe, i don't really care about your boyfriend."

"you don't get to call me that anymore." you scoff, ignoring the growing heat in your chest and the increase of your heart rate. "besides, he's not yours to care about." you reply.

"true." drew nods to himself. "but i know that he's in LA this weekend, so apparently he's not yours to worry about right now either."

you pause, looking over at the clock. he's right. "hey, i just... i figured we could catch up. I've missed you." he admits, wanting to diffuse the tension that he already quickly built up.

you sigh, shaking your head at yourself for what you're about to agree to. "okay. okay, yeah. sure."

"sweet. i've got a hotel by the airport, i'll call you when i land." drew smiles. "see you soon, y/n/n." 

"yeah, see you later." you say quietly, hanging up the phone and throwing it across the apartment. you're mad at yourself, but you simply couldn't resist seeing him again.

a few hours later, you're still cursing yourself as you stand in the lobby of the nice hotel, waiting for the elevator to his floor. you could turn back, you could just ghost him and finally block him on everything- but you don't have the guts to. your body has made the decision for you as you quickly step inside and press the button, watching the doors close in front of you again. you drag your feet as you approach the door, knocking on it twice and looking around, making sure no one will see you. 

your heart is beating fast as he opens the door, and you feel the air get knocked out of you.

"hey, babe. come in." he says, that damn smirk everpresent on his lips. 

you brush past him and he lets the door close as you both turn to face each other. your arms are crossed tightly across your chest as you look up at him, fully on the defensive before he's even said another word. you're scared if you drop your arms you'll want to hug him.

"good to see you too." he nods, raising an eyebrow at you. he's waiting for you to crumble.

"what do you want, drew? because i doubt you just wanted to catch up if you're keeping tabs on where in the country my boyfriend is." you ask, tilting your head at him.

he raises his hands defensively. "hey, woah- is it a crime to want to see my girl when i'm in town? i just missed you."

"i'm not 'your girl' anymore, drew." you bite back.

drew chuckles to himself and takes a step closer to you. you try to keep your front strong as he looks down at you with those bright, blue eyes. you always thought they were like deep blue pools, and you knew you would get lost in them again if given the chance. "you'll always be my girl, y/n, i think even you know that..."

your resolve breaks apart in front of you, despite you trying to cling onto the idea that this was wrong. think of your boyfriend, think of him, think of him, think of him.

you don't even remember what he looks like as your lips crash against drew's again, and suddenly you feel more at home than you ever did in your new apartment.

How did the Author disappear? (OneShot theory)

Spoilers for all routes of OneShot ahead. Don't read if you haven't finished it!

Part 1: Before his Disappearance

- A few things we know about the Author's life before disappearing are:

• He created his children; Rue, Cedric, and Proto, in the Old World.

• He was friends with Rachis (who deserves his own post) as well as the Great Prophet, and his son became friends with the two's children; Alula and Calamus.

• He created a music box (which, I theorize is the in-universe equivalent of the song 'Solstice') as well as flying machines, and of course, his most infamous invention, The World Machine.

That invention is the single best clue we have as to how he disappeared.

Part 2: The Author's Disappearance

• In OneShot, Silver describes her friend who was willing to enter the Tower and study it; this is implied to be the Author. Outside of the screenshot she refers to this figure as 'he' and implies that he disappeared soon after. (Now, her saying that 'he never told me if it went anywhere' can definitely just mean he never told her what happened, but it may mean she never saw him again.)

• We also learn on the Solstice route that the Author was the real person who's consciousness was used to allow the World Machine to continue, which is a really nice metaphor for artists and their creations; as he is literally the Author, but for lore it's also valuable. We know how it happened, where it happened, and roughly when it happened; the Solstice route reveals that the sun disappeared before the simulation was activated.

• On March 20th, 2017, when the countdown in the Refuge reached zero, the Author himself left a physical message to Rue inside of the building where the big clock was. This is nothing special, as he sends us messages during the playthrough, but him talking directly in a physical way with the characters is pretty novel. However, the interesting bit is that the balcony outside of this room plays the track 'Sonder.' 'Sonder' shares a leitmotif with the Author's theme, and the Author's room is revealed to be inside of that building in Solstice. So, we can safely assume he's been essentially trapped inside of that room, he can communicate with his children and the Player from there, but he isn't able to just walk around and greet Plight during his elevator shift or something.

• With all these factors, I think I have a pretty decent explanation as to just what happened to the Author.

Part 3: What actually happened to this dude?

• The Author appears to have fallen into a sort of 'limbo' state after his sacrifice. He's able to speak indirectly with people, and his books and legacy live on in memory, but, as stated before, he's not able to physically walk around the World Machine. He seems to have taken on an existence nearby the World Machine, able to access it, but he himself is not inside of it. Even 'real' people like Niko and the Author's children are all stuck inside of the World Machine once they enter it, (unless they fulfill certain requirements, such as Niko with the sun,) but the Author's office is quite literally a few steps away from the purple monitors of the World Machine itself.

• I'd call it a symbiotic sort of relationship, where the Author is essentially a remora fish attached to a shark. Nearby, able to technically touch the shark and communicate with it, but not able to actually enter it.

Pure Vanilla

“My love? Are you in here?” Pure Vanilla says as he cracks the door open to your shared room.

You’re laying in bed half awake, you sigh to let him to know your here.

“Oh? My love are you tired? sorry to wake you I’l go-”

“No.. Come backk..” You sleepily say. “Im not tired..” you started to slur your words. “not.. tired…” your words are getting quieter by the second.

“Please dear, go back to bed.” Pure Vanilla is standing in the doorway trying to block as much light from the hallway as he can.

“Come overr…” You try to look at pure vanilla but your eyes a half way shut.

Pure vanilla gives in, he walks in and shuts the door. He walks to the bed. The moonlight makes you more visible to him. He lifts the covers and climbs in. He holds you close as you drift off to sleep, whispering sweet nothings into your hair.

He woke you up with breakfast in bed, you didn’t remember what happened last night but Pure Vanilla has been smiling and blushing all morning.

Dark Cacao

Dark cacao gave you money and told you to entertain yourself outside of the castle.

You were upset, all you wanted to do is spend time with your husband instead of be around a few guards and have to go shopping for hours.

“Mrs, Dark Cacao has requested you come home now.” one of the guards say.

“Finally.. Lets go.”

You take a carriage back to the castle. When you arrive you left the carriage fast to go to the front door, leaving your bodyguards to handle your bags.

“Dark Cacao! how could you force me out-…. of the.. house…” you walked in the castle to see the place decorated head to toe. But no one was in sight.

You walked up the stairs to one of the corridor’s. It was also decorated in your favorite things. you walk to your room and see a dress/suit in your favorite color and fabric type. theres was posted note next it telling you to wear the outfit and then go down stairs. You decided to listen to it and put the outfit on. there were so many parts to the outfit and took you atleast an hour to figure it out. You head down the stairs, then the lights go off, the darkness was inviting becuase you didnt what you were gonna see. You hear running all around you. Then someone grabs your hand and starts leading you somewhere. Now the darkness wasnt as inviting.

Then, the running stopped, the person leasing you somewhere stopped. All was quiet. Then the licks turn on, you see the castle staff, cookies from the kingdom and cookies friends from distance lands. They all yelled congratulations, but you didnt know why. the person leading you around was your husband, Dark Cacao.

“What’s going on?” you say as you look up at him.

“What do you mean? its our celebration for being married for a half a year, doesnt everyone do this?” he said confused.

He had the spirit but not the right timing.

After starting to read the short story with Sonder‘s point of view I really really needed to write something like that, no spoilers for anything regarding the story :)

Tags I think Steam should have

"Animal Protagonist"/"Animal Characters" or something similar. Humans are hard to draw and also animal designs always look nicer imo (example games; Stray, Hollow Knight, Chicory)

Whatever the term for "even the most insignificant characters have their own individual lives and this game makes sure you know that one way or another" is (maybe just "sonder"? that would work). I need more of these games and I need them now (example games; Wandersong, OneShot, Spiritfarer)

"Bugs". Please I'm begging you I just want more bug stuff (example games; Hollow Knight, Bug Fables, that's literally it the only other game I can think of is like thirty minutes long)

"This Game Will Give You An Existential Crisis". I'd like to know ahead of time thanks (example games; Outer Wilds, OneShot, Wandersong to a degree)

"Creatures" or something. I want more fictional creatures and such and the "Creature Collector" tag doesn't cut it and also isn't really what I'm talking about (example games; Slime Rancher, Subnautica, Spore)

"Best With Controller"/"Torture Without Controller". I hate Hollow Knight's desktop controls with a burning fiery passion (example games; probably a lot of metroidvanias and dungeon crawlers)

"Intentionally Frustrating". It just seems like something that should be there, especially since "Intentionally Awkward Controls" is there (example games; i can't think of any)

"Meta". The world needs more games that mess with your computer and/or break the fourth wall relentlessly (example games; OneShot obviously, uhhhh oh boy there better be more than just that)
