“See? A small fire and this place feels super cozy already. Imagine a little winter vacation getaway, just you and me–” “–and the hundred curses hiding outside within the temple, waiting to be exorcized…” “Babe, please… I’m trying to be romantic here…”
You can’t help but giggle when Ino takes you in his arms and kisses the bridge of your nose, rubbing your back to warm you up. He had managed to light up the old stove with some firewood, old newspapers and a pack of matches that you found within the abandoned hut. Now the crackling sound of burning wood filled the room, paired with the relentless howling of the snow storm outside. It was a miracle that you found this place during your mission, caught by surprise from the sudden snow. Judging from the simple but clean interior, someone associated with the uninhabited temple you were supposed to cleanse of curses has lived here before.
Now it is your safe haven in the midst of a storm. While the weather forecast didn’t look good, neither of you would have expected to get snowed in, but here you are. And still, you couldn’t even be mad about it–being stuck with Ino in the middle of nowhere wasn’t too bad, considering your occupation as sorcerers often didn’t leave you with much free time to spend together as a couple. Maybe the stars had aligned to grant you some time together, or how Ino said: A little winter vacation getaway.
Your partner seems to be all fired up about the situation you found yourself in, his protective instincts kicking into gear. He scurries around the hut, opening drawers and cabinets and gathering everything that could be useful in a pile; from blankets to an old kettle, he even found some dried tea leaves and pickled veggies (that would go along perfectly with the bread rolls Nanami had gifted you and Ino prior to your mission, a small souvenir from his latest bakery discovery). He also drags the mattress from the other room over, putting it in front of the stove from where you watched him with a small smirk curving up your lips. Within a few minutes the room already looked much cozier than before.
“We should probably get out of these wet clothes or else we’ll catch a cold,” you point out and Ino nods, a hint of mischief on his face before he peels out of his jacket and his black sweater, hanging both over a chair to dry. Both of you strip down to your underwear (not without a little peeking), then Ino is the first to sit down on the mattress, grabbing the biggest blanket and patting his thigh for you to sit on. You don’t hesitate at all, craving all the warmth you can get. When you crawl into his arms, you’re welcomed with lots and lots of kisses on your face down to the side of your neck, before you settle down comfortably with your back against Ino’s chest, letting him wrap the blanket around you both. He nuzzles his face in the crook of your neck, taking deep inhales of the scent of his favorite person in the whole world.
A comfortable silence falls between you two, and for a while you just sit there holding each other, watching the fire in the stove almost mesmerized, and listening to the sounds of the storm outside. Snow is already piling up on the windowsill while the sun is long gone, but you’re not afraid; you could never while being in these arms.
“I love you so,” Ino eventually mumbles against your skin before kissing your shoulder and hugging you a bit closer to him. He cups your hands with his, noticing how they were still not fully warmed up yet. He rubs them a little and places a few kisses on your fingertips. “Should I go find another blanket for you? Or make some tea?”
You shake your head and rest your head against his shoulder, looking up at him with a small smile. “Nah, I’m fine. Let’s just stay like this for a little longer. I already feel much warmer.”
Ino looks like he is about to protest, but then he opts to kiss you instead. He is gentle at first, his lips softly brushing against yours, but he is quick to pick up your subtle cues and kisses you harder, one hand coming to your chin while his tongue finds yours. His arm wraps a little tighter around your middle, pulling you closer to him, till there’s not even an inch left between your bare bodies. You can tell from his breathing that Ino is feeling the same rising heat from within as you do.
A quiet growl comes from his throat when you arch your back a little, grinding your ass against his boxers from where his cock was throbbing already, and it takes him every ounce of self-restraint to not just pull the fabric aside and sink you down on his length. Instead he makes sure you’re nestled tightly with your back against his chest, the hand on your chin wandering down slowly to your throat while his other reaches for your thighs, spreading them open till your legs are hooked over his knees. The blanket hides the damp patch in your panties that would otherwise be on full display, but by now Ino doesn’t need to see to know how aroused you are; your sweet little sounds and your squirming tell him everything he needs to know.
“Wet already? My sweet little thing is so eager for me, hm?” he hums in your ear when running his knuckles between your clothed folds, the fabric sticking to them. You whine a little, hungry for more of his touch, and he squeezes his fingers around your throat a bit tighter, not too much but enough to remind you of the position you’re in. “Tell me what you want, baby…”
Not giving you any time to respond, Ino’s big hand cups your cunt, a low chuckle rumbling in his chest when he feels you buck your hips against him. He starts to massage your folds a little, a thumb brushing over your sensitive clit and making your legs tremble, a finger hooked under the crotch of your panties and pulling them up. He always loves to tease you like that, your reactions making him hungry to devour you.
“Wanna cum on your cock,” you mumble in his ear, kissing every inch of him you can reach. His scent was so familiar, so warm, and a little intoxicating; you just couldn’t get enough of him, ever. “Wanna feel you all the way inside my tummy…”
“Oh, yeah? Gonna be so good for me, baby? Gonna let me stuff that pretty little cunt of yours?”, Ino asks, his voice low and husky. He’s planning on fucking you against every flat surface in this hut anyway, but he loves it when you use your words to say what you want. He can never get enough of the yearning and the desire in your voice, a melody for his ears only. Patience was never his strong suit though, not when you’re both so riled up, so it’s no surprise when he slides your panties down to your ankles and dips one finger into your wetness.
Your head falls back against his shoulder when Ino adds a second finger, then a third when he feels how your walls flutter around him. His breath is hot and heavy on your skin while he makes you fall apart in his arms, whispering needy words close to your ear. His hand around your throat squeezes tighter every time you clench down on his slender fingers, rubbing that sweet spot that pushes you over the edge so easily. You start feeling a little lightheaded, your whole body tingling.
“Cum for me, baby… need you all nice and loose so you can take me, okay?”, Ino mutters, pressing his fingers deeper into your heat. You’re dripping by now, your juices running down his wrist while you swallow him so greedily, close, so close–
Ino lets go of your throat once you gush around him, muffling your mewls and whimpers with a deep kiss that takes your breath away. He keeps teasing your clit throughout your orgasm, the overstimulation making you squirm, but you’re still nestled so tightly against him, there’s no escape. Ino can never get enough of the way you look when you’re wrecked with pleasure, but he’s no bully so he lets you breathe for a moment and slides his fingers out to bring them to his lips.
“I love how you taste,” he moans quietly against your ear, relishing the sticky mess you’ve made. Ino kisses you again and lets you savor your own juices. “So sweet. So delicious. Tastes like heaven to me.”
He nibbles on your ear and holds you tight in his arms until your heart rate slows down a bit. The whole time his aching cock is pressed against the small of your back, throbbing and desperate to be touched.
When you finally feel the strength in your limbs returning, you sit up slightly, the blanket falling down your shoulders and revealing your bare form. Ino’s eyes never leave your silhouette, he’s taking you in and admiring the shape of you with the eyes of a love drunk man.
“Fuck me.”
Your voice is barely a whisper, a little husky even. Dripping with desire. Ino pulls down his boxers and his cock springs free, resting heavy against his stomach. The pink tip is oozing with precum, he can barely hold back anymore. He starts stroking himself slowly while you get on all fours, facing the stove and presenting him your backside. You lower your upper body to the ground, your ass up in the air, spreading your folds with two fingers wide open for him. Ino lets out a shaky breath at the sight of yours, but he doesn’t dare to touch you yet.
“Please… need your cock. Need you inside. Fuck me, Ino, darling, please, fuck me…”
Your sweet please make your lover’s resistance crumble. Ino gets behind you, one hand on your ass to spread it apart even wider for a better view. The light of the fire dips him into warm shades of gold, and his hungry gaze lingers on you. You let out a needy mewl when he rubs just the tip against your cunt, almost making you jolt from being so sensitive still. You whine out his name and arch your back more to push yourself onto him, but he keeps you in place, his fingers digging deeply into your flesh. Ino breathes heavily, and then his hand comes down for a sharp smack, quickly soothed by more kneading.
“You’re dripping,” he mutters and teases your clit with the tip of his cock, charming out sweet moans from your throat with every move. “Tell me again what you want, baby, c’mon…”
“Need your cock, please, please, just fuck me already–”, you whimper, and cry out loud when another smack lands on your ass, the other side this time. The sharp pain burns so good, and this time Ino comes down to kiss the spot where a faint red mark blooms. Oh, how badly Ino wants to bury his face in your cunt, and lick and spit and suck till you choke on his name on your tongue, but for now he has other plans.
With one swift movement he grabs you by the hips and spins you around, letting out a small growl now that you’re under him. Ino leans down, one hand grabbing your wrists and pinning them down above your head, while his lips find yours again, kissing you feverishly. His cock rests heavy and twitching on your stomach now, as if to demonstrate you how deep he’s gonna nestle inside of you.
“Wanna see your pretty face when you cream around my cock, baby,” Ino sighs and looks at you like you’re magic; pure adoration and desire. It sends warm shivers throughout your whole body and makes your pussy throb, feeling empty ever since his fingers slid out. He lets go of your wrists to grab your legs and put them over his shoulders, making sure you’re comfortable while being spread wide open for him. Ino kisses the insides of your thighs, a few light bites in between, and groans when your hands come to his cock, giving it a few strokes before raising your hips slightly for him to slide in. By now your mind is blank, desiring nothing but to be stuffed to the brim.
The air is knocked out of lungs when Ino finally pushes his cock inside in one swift movement. You’re so wet and your walls swallow him greedily, fluttering around him as you let out a sigh of relief, the biggest smile curling upon your lips when he starts rutting like an animal, setting a merciless pace from the very beginning. While he first held your legs in place, Ino now puts his hands down on the mattress next to your head, basically folding you in half while he keeps on pounding into you.
“Fuck, you’re so tight, baby, feels so good, so pretty for me…” Ino growls and brushes a strand of hair out of your face to get a better look at your blissfully fucked out expression, your eyes rolling in the back of your head with every thrust of his. Your sweet moans and whimpers are louder than the snow storm outside and awake something feral within him; all he can think about is how badly he wants to breed you, how he wants to stuff you so full of his cum till it’s dripping out of your throbbing core, how he needs to fill you up till you remember his shape forever.
“Close… ‘m so close…”, you mewl, that familiar knot in your core once again dancing on the edge of snapping. You’re melting underneath him, your vision getting a little blurry when you rest one hand on your tummy and feel his cock stretching you out so deliciously. The words falling out of your mouth are drowned out in needy moans and whimpers. “Gonna cum… wanna cum with you, Ino… love you, gonna cum, gonna…”
Ino lets out an airy laugh, not mocking but so full of love, overwhelmed by his own emotions. He leans down to kiss you again, and to push his cock a little bit deeper inside of you as well until he’s fully bottomed out in your aching cunt.
“I love you. Love you so much, baby,” he babbles, his hips stuttering by now while he also chases his high, his thrusts getting harsh and sloppy. “Sweet thing… taking me so well… gonna let me fill you up, yeah? Want my cum? I love you. I love you. Fuck, you’re squeezing me, baby, feels good, feels so good… I love your pussy so much… love you. Mine, all mine… ‘m gonna…”
Your legs slide down from his shoulders and wrap around his waist, pulling him even closer to you, as if he wasn’t already bottomed out in your core, seconds away from falling apart. He moans into your open mouth and after one more brutish thrust you feel waves of pleasure rush throughout your limbs, a numbing and tingling sensation exploding within you. You cum so hard, it makes Ino take a sharp breath and whimper as your cunt milks him, and he buries his face in the crook of your neck when he cums shortly after you, spilling his hot load inside.
While your orgasm seems to last forever, neither Ino nor you make an attempt to move or pull apart, content in your tiny universe. The only sounds are your heavy breathing, your hammering heartbeat and the crackling of the fire wood. Ino still keeps on mumbling words of praise and adoration against your skin, until you muffle them with a kiss on his lips which he returns with equal passion.
You trace the scar on his forehead gently with your fingers while gazing into his eyes. They were a bit glazy, with the reflection of the flames dancing in them. Ino leans more into your touch, kissing the palm of your hand and down to your wrist. He doesn’t pull out, not yet, feasting on the feeling of you pulsating around his cock; his load and your juices slowly dripping down from where you’re connected.
“You’re not cold anymore, are you? I warmed you up really good?”, he asks with a grin and gently bites down on one of your fingers. His eyes sparkle with mischief. You let out a small chuckle. Sometimes he reminds you of a puppy, chewing on everything he could get a hold on, and so eager to get praised.
“Mmm, I’m not sure,” you think out loud and watch his eyebrows twitch in irritation. You laugh again and cup his chin with your hand, pressing another kiss on his lips. “I’ve heard it’s important to keep moving if you want to stay warm…”
Ino huffs and rolls his hips in response, twitching inside of you, getting hard again. He is so easy to tease, it’s adorable. His hands come down to your hips, and suddenly in one swift motion you’re lying flat on your stomach again, with Ino bottoming out inside of you. Being manhandled like this, plus the new angle, make you moan out loud and tremble from pleasure and overstimulation, and Ino clicks his tongue at your poor attempt to crawl away.
“Oh, I can keep you warm, my sweet,” he whispers close to your ear, pinning you down against the mattress. He lets out a small hushed moan when you arch your back further for him. “Will you be good and return the favor? Gonna let me keep my cock in your pretty pussy? You’re clenching so hard around me, baby, it’s like you never wanna let me go…”
There’s truth in his words, and that night, you definitely don’t let go; and when the sun rises again and the snow starts melting, nothing but love lies on the tip of your tongue, getting swallowed greedily by the one who has your whole heart.

You smile to yourself as you step back from what you’d call a masterpiece of a bath setup that included a glass of red wine and a snack, even went as far as to drop in one of your favorite bath bombs to make the water a milky color as well as make the bathroom smell like almonds with a tiny hint of vanilla. Happy with the set up you turn so you can try to figure out how to work the towel warmer Eddie had bought you for Christmas a few years ago, you open it up and place one of your giant fluffy towels in and close the lid expecting it to automatically start warming the towel. You raise an eyebrow when nothing happens and no lights on the buttons turn on, you check the cord to make sure it’s plugged in all the way and to your annoyance still nothing starts to happen.
“Honey can you help me for a moment?” Eddie turns his head in your direction when you poke your head into the living room. He just smiles and nods his head in response as he gets up off the couch and follows you into the bedroom. “Now before we go in I just need you to do a few things for me.” Eddie gives you a confused look as you stop right outside the bathroom door and turn so you can face him.
“You’re up to something aren’t you princess?” He teases as he crosses his arms in front of his chest. “What would you like me to do?” You just smile and reach up and place a kiss to his cheek before you hand him a hair tie. “You want me to put my hair up?” He questions as he begins gathering his curly hair into a bun at the back of his neck.
“I know you don’t like to get it wet if you can avoid it.” He just nods as you then place the laundry hamper next to him making him pause his movements so he can look from it back to you. “You can’t take a bath in your clothes so…gonna have to get rid of them.” Eddie chuckles as you get a sly little smirk on your face.
“A bath huh? That’s what you need my help with?” You just turn around and open the bathroom door letting Eddie get a glimpse inside and he can’t help but smile because he can tell you put a lot of thought into this bath.
“Uhm actually I need your help with this,” you take a few steps inside the bathroom and point to the towel warmer. “It won’t turn on for me…I think it only likes you.” Eddie laughs as he quickly takes off his shirt and tosses it into the laundry hamper, unbuttoning his pants as he takes a step into the bathroom so he can get a look at what the problem is.
“Well baby it helps if you turn it on.” You let out a huff as Eddie simply pushes the button on top making the lights turn on and a timer appear on the little screen letting you see it’ll start warming up in about five minutes. “Now what’s all this for Princess?” He asks as he quickly wraps his arms around you from behind so he can nuzzle his face into the crook of your neck.
“I know you’ve had a hard week with all the late nights you’ve been working at the plant.” Eddie feels his heart drop a bit at the mention of working late because while he has been working late nights it hasn’t been at the plant. “So I ran you a little bath and got you some wine.” Eddie smiles as he sees the little assortment of things on the bath tray he got you for your birthday last year. “I even made the bed up all nice and cozy for when you get out.” Eddie’s hold on you loosens as you can turn around in his arms.
“You’re not gonna make me enjoy this bath alone now are you?” He asks making you playfully roll your eyes as Eddie leans down and places a kiss to your forehead.
“Sorry I only warmed up one towel.” Eddie laughs as you wiggle out of his hold so you can start the bath water up again to add more hot water. “Now you just enjoy yourself.” Eddie watches you pause before leaving the bathroom and look over your shoulder. “Honey?” Eddie raises an eyebrow as he finishes taking his pants off. “Please…try to relax a little bit okay?” He just smiles and nods his head because he knows you’re well aware it takes a lot for Eddie to relax but you also know this bath will do a good job at helping him pause and enjoy a few moments a peace at least for a little bit.
“You’ll be waiting for me when I’m done?” He asks with a wink and you just laugh and nod your head as you walk out of the bathroom and close the door so Eddie can enjoy his time by himself.

instead of : "i saw mommy kissing santa claus" it's actually just: "i saw unnie kissing santa claus"
just reader kissing santa bada during christmas eve like them 2 and the girls just saw that secretly not even recognizing bada 😭 like the girls were actually trying to see if santa was there but their reactions were something-
this is sooo cute!!🎄
"ouch, watch where you're walking!" cheche nudges kyma.
"i can't see anything!" kyma whisper-shouts back loudly.
"shh!" lusher quiets down the other bebe girls, holding a finger up to her mouth.
it's a cold, starry night on december the 24th—the clock is minutes away from striking twelve in the morning, and beginning the christmas festivities. the bebe girls--or more accurately, lusher as the spear header--gathered together with the expressed interest of "catching santa"...
"why are we even up this late?" hyo groans. "we're not going to see anything, y'know. santa's not real--"
"shhh!!" lusher exclaims loudly, placing her hands over soweon's ears. "there are children around--"
''oh come on, we're all adults here--" cheche argues back before she's cut off.
"guys." tatter mumbles, grabbing the girls' attention, and halting their bickering.
"what?" all the girls say in unison.
tatter motions for them to come closer and peek their head around the corner of the wall. they girls clamber over, each of them taking various positions against the wall before looking ahead.
the living room is dark--only barely lit by the beige, flickering string lights hung on the christmas tree. but, even with the sparse ligthting, the girls are able to make out two figures.
one is wearing a delicate and beautiful red and white velvety christmas dress. it's you. you're smiling widely, putting gifts under the christmas tree.
the other figure is tall, and is also wearing red and white clothing, although their's isn't a dress, it's a suit. a santa claus suit.
"santa." lusher breathes, her eyes going wide and sparkling.
in the living room, you stand up. "i think that's the last of them." you then turn back to face santa, your smile never fading. "what do you think, santa? are those enough presents for the girls?"
santa opens their mouth, about to respond when they catch something dangling just above them. they look up, prompting you to do so as well.
there, dangling from some decorated lights is a mistletoe.
"oh, how'd that get there?" you wonder aloud, voice full of cheer. "well, we are standing under it..."
santa wraps their arms around your waist, bringing you closer until you're chest to chest. they lean in, about to place a kiss against your lips--
"unnie's about to kiss santa!" lusher gasps.
"we have to stop them--bada's going to kill santa if she finds out!" soweon shakes her head worriedly.
"unnie, stop!!" lusher and the rest of the girls shout, running out of their hiding place.
you jump at their voices, your hand slapping over your chest in pure shock. santa also parts from you, surprised, but still keeps you close to their side. now facing the girls, santa's face is illuminated, revealing--
"boss?!" all the girls exclaim in surprise.
bada stands before the girls, dressed in a santa claus suit, looking anything but jolly. "yah, what are you all doing up?"
"we came to catch santa..." soweon trails off, glancing between you and bada. "what are you doing up, unnie?"
"we were putting your presents under the tree." you answer, moving to huddle into bada's warm side.
"why just now?" hyo asks.
"because if we’d put them out any sooner, you all would have tried to open them before christmas." bada says, deadpanning.
"that's not true--" lusher tries to argue, but even the other bebe girls give her a "really?" look. "okay, maybe we would have--"
"go to bed, won't you?" bada cuts her off. "we were in the middle of something." she gestures between you and her, which makes you bashful.
"sorry, boss." hyo starts to push the girls away from you and your wife, an apologetic grimace on her face. "we'll go back to our rooms. pretend like we were never here."
"i'm so glad that wasn't santa." soweon says quietly. "i was worried unnie would cheat on bada."
the girls all glance at each other, deciding to not destroy the youngest bebe girl's hopes and dreams.
meanwhile, you can't help but laugh at what had just happened.
"oh, it's funny is it?" bada smirks, pulling you back into her chest.
"a little." you banter, twirling the pompom end of your wife's santa claus hat.
"well, i think you still owe me a kiss, don't you?" your wife smiles.
"yeah, i think i do." you nod, weaving your fingers between hers.
under the twinkling lights and a cherry-red christmas mistletoe, you and santa share a kiss.

@steddiemas Day 1: Deck the Halls (Festive Friday)
Something short and silly to start off with. I'm so excited for this event. Thank you sooo much to @steddieasitgoes for creating it 💖💖💖 I love writing Christmas stuff for ST and I have a few things planned for the Steddiemas calendar.
Tumblr media
“Deck the halls with boughs of holly, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-laaaaaa.”
Steve would cringe if he wasn’t carrying most of the weight of the Munson’s new Christmas tree in through the front door and trying to avoid scratching himself on either the branches or the metal frame of the fly screen.
Eddie is behind him, muttering the same tune over and over, just high enough for Steve to hear, but not loud enough to call attention to himself.
He’s been like this all day – too cheery and chipper as they decorate the trailer while Wayne is at work. Busying himself with not much more than his chiming, his tone all wobbly and hollow like a kid carolling.
It’s far too early in December as far as Steve is concerned. Hell, he doubts he will even decorate his own house this year.
What’s the point if he will be home alone?
And, as Eddie lets go of what part of the tree he was barely holding in the first place, Steve begins to regret offering his help entirely as he goes careening onto the couch.
“Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.”
“Eddie!” Steve splutters, rolling on his side and palming around on the edge of the couch for support.
“What?”
He looks up to find Eddie smiling and twirling the end of his maroon scarf.
“Could you have actually helped?” he snaps.
“You said you ‘got it’!” Eddie makes half-hearted air quotes and lowers his tone in what Steve can only assume is supposed to be a mockery of his own voice.
“Asshole!” he grumbles.
“Grinch!”
Eddie pokes his tongue out at him before offering a dimple-filled grin.
Steve glares, “Can you at least bring in the box of decorations?”
Eddie turns on his heel and skips back out the front door.
“Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.”
Steve runs a hand through his hair and groans. Maybe he could just run out the front door, elbow Eddie out of the way of the car and speed off into the distance.
“Why am I here?” he mutters to himself.
He takes the opportunity to catch his breath and looks the tree over. Thankfully, it isn’t damaged - save for the odd fallen pine shoot.
Eddie soon hops back up the stairs, winter boots shaking the metal landing as he cradles the box of decorations they had gathered between Melvads, Goodwill and the dollar store.
“I love Christmas!” he beams as he sets the box on the coffee table to begin rummaging, “Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.”
Eddie hands over a bauble. It’s red and green, the stripes broken up with gold glitter. One that Steve had picked from Melvads’ Christmas aisle.
Their fingers brush as Steve takes the bauble and he looks up to find Eddie grinning from ear to ear.
That’s why he’s here, he thinks, smiling back.

12 Days of Christmas Masterlist
Tumblr media
Christmas morning dawns with a hushed excitement. I feel a warm, gentle glow on my skin as I stir in my sleep. I wake up for the last time in my childhood room. It's a bit chilly as I slip out of bed, tiptoeing to the window and looking out over the snow-covered landscape. The world seems to sparkle in the early morning light and a sense of calm settles within me. The events of the previous days replay in my mind - the shared laughter, reconstructing bonds, and the budding connection between Michael and me.
I yawn and stretch sleepily, but before I can fully embrace the day, my door bursts open. The twins tumble into the room like a whirlwind of excitement.
"Auntie Mimi, Auntie Mimi! It's Christmas!" They shout in unison, their eyes sparkling in pure joy. They rush over to me, bouncing up and down with an infectious energy.
"Y'all are up early!" I groan sleepily as they tug on my arms.
"Come on, Auntie!" Matthew urges as they pull me towards the door.
"Santa left us more gifts!" Mason adds and I allow myself to be pulled into the festive chaos.
We get downstairs and I see James and Teresa sitting on the couch, drinking steaming cups of coffee. I chuckle at the sight.
"I guess they went to see you guys before they came to me." I observe and Teresa gives me a sleepy smile.
"I just wanted five more minutes but they wanted to open their presents now." She says with a sigh.
"And then they decided they wanted everyone else awake to open them as well." James adds, seeming to remind the boys of their mission and they run back up the stairs to get everyone else.
I take a seat on the couch and slide my feet between the cushions to keep them warm. James hands me my own cup of coffee and I thank him, taking a sip that warms me to my core. The stairs creak as my mom comes down, then my aunts, Ashanti, and, finally, Michael. As he emerges from the guest room, I note that he looks slightly disheveled, yet undeniably charming.
"Morning," He greets, his voice a bit groggy as he sits next to me, a warm smile playing on his lips.
"Morning," I reply, the vibrant energy of the morning slowly dispelling the remnants of sleep. I continue to sip my coffee, finding myself blushing from his close presence. Michael puts his arm around my shoulder, pulling me closer to him.
"Sorry, you looked pretty cold and I've been told I make good heater." He smirks teasingly and I roll my eyes at him, scooting closer until our legs are touching. "Now that's more like it.
The family gathers in the living room and, finally, the unwrapping of gifts can commence. Mason fishes through the mountains of gifts and pulls out a medium sized box. It says "From Granny Pat."
"Can I open it?!" He asks excitedly. Aunt Pat gives him a nod and he tears it open to find a Jurassic Park Lego set.
"YES! I've been wanting this forever!" he screams as he jumps up from his seat, running to tell his brother. Then Matthew opens on of his gifts. It's a large toy robot. He's in awe of it, excited to try it out. After that, the rest of the family begin to unwrap theirs, one by one.
As the unwrapping frenzy continues, Teresa’s eyes widen in surprise as James hands her a neatly wrapped gift. She carefully opens it, revealing the same pair of ugly Christmas leggings she had admired at the store yesterday. Her face lights up with delight, and she looks at James in disbelief.
“These are amazing! How did you…?” she begins, her voice filled with awe.
Ashanti smiles proudly, leaning over to whisper in my ear, “I sent him a picture when I saw how much she loved them. He insisted on going back to get them.”
Teresa is so touched by James' thoughtful gift that she practically leaps into his arms, showering him with kisses and affection. He returns her affection, smiling back at her and wrapping his arms around her.
Michael is watching the two of them with a grin on his face, he seems amused by the whole thing.
Next, Ashanti receives a flashy gift from her mother, despite their recent arguments. The air is tense between them and Aunt Tina doesn’t even look to see Ashanti’s reaction to the gift.
The atmosphere is full of awkward tension, but Ashanti does not seem to care. She smiles warmly and thanks her mother for the gift, which is a designer wallet.
I smile as I pick up a gift that I wrapped carefully and hand it to Michael, eager for him to open it.
He takes the gift from me, and he can tell how excited I am to see his reaction.
He tears the paper away to reveal a painted canvas, a portrait of him, capturing every aspect of his face, from his perfect smile to his warm eyes. As he pulls the painting from its wrapping, his expression shifts from curiosity to astonishment. His eyes widen in disbelief as he takes in the image before him, his lips parting in silent awe. For a moment, he is speechless, his gaze fixed on the portrait with a mixture of wonder and gratitude.
"Is this..." He starts and begins to beam. "Is this yours?" He asks finally, his eyes still fixed on the portrait. I smile and nod.
“I told you I’d make one for you. Here it is.” I say, my smile widening.
"It's amazing," He says, his voice still strained as he continues to stare at the painting. We've had a lot of touching moments these past few days, but nothing quite like this. This gesture feels like a genuine act of love, one that takes a lot of heart and dedication. It's just one more thing that makes it difficult for me to keep denying my feelings for him.
He pulls me into a hug and I bask in the feeling of his strong arms around me. It never gets old. I smile warmly as we separate and Ashanti sighs heavily, interrupting our moment.
“Okay, we get it, y’all are in love!” She fake gags and we roll our eyes at her. “Here, Naomi, open this one.” She plops a small gift in my lap and looks at me expectantly. I look at her in confusion as I open it, my heart skipping a beat as I see what’s inside. It’s the notebook Ashanti and I used to color in when we were little, filled with doodles and memories from our childhood.
"I can't believe you still have this..." I look at her in pure shock, my eyes wide. Ashanti smiles sweetly at me, not only having kept it, but having taken the time to give it to me today. This notebook means the world to me and it feels like Ashanti knows my heart. I hug her, almost in tears from its sentimental value.
She smiles softly, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. “It’s a reminder of the bond we share, no matter where life takes us.” This moment hits me just right. I have so much to be grateful for today, and this gift is just another example of all the love that I have in my life.
As we pull apart, I can see that my other family members have noticed the touching scene.
"We get it," Teresa yells teasingly, "can we continue on with the gifts now?" Ashanti sticks her tongue at her and I laugh as we move on.
As the gift opening continues on, the children get more toys and the atmosphere is filled with joy. Finally, Michael hands me his last gift from under the tree. I open the small envelope with unsure hands, my heart racing with anticipation. Inside, I find a boarding pass for first class to Los Angeles, set for December 26, tomorrow.
I look at him in shock, my breath catching in my throat. He meets my gaze with a soft smile, his eyes filled with sincerity.
"I thought we'd start the new year together," he says softly. My breath stops and my heart skip a beat. This is big. It's not something casual. This is a statement of intention and I know it. My family notices it, as well. They're all wide-eyed, waiting to see how I respond.
"Is this...are you asking me to go back with you... to Los Angeles?" I ask him, barely able to speak with what this gift actually represents.
"Yes," he says softly, taking my hand. "I want you to come home me, just until New Years. You know, just to get to know you better and see where we go from here... outside of this place. And I do believe there's something pretty amazing between us that's worth exploring. So... are you coming?" A rush of happiness washes over me, and I throw my arms around him, accepting the gift with overflowing joy.
“Of course, I’ll go to LA with you!” I squeal, my excitement overflowing. He wraps his arms around me as well and my mother claps her hands excitedly.
“Now THAT is a Christmas present!” She exclaims and Teresa chimes in.
“Mmhm, you’re telling me. I sure would love to go to LA.” She casts a glance at James, who laughs and shakes his head.
“Thanks, Mike, now I gotta one up you.” He says jokingly and Teresa swats his arm playfully. There are smiles all around us and my family all seem relieved that I've agreed so quickly. Michael laughs along and leans back in his seat, subtly taking my hand in his as the excitement dies down.
He moves to closer whisper in my ear, "Let's finish opening these gifts and then we'll talk more about LA tonight." I nod in agreement and the celebration of opening the gifts continues until every single gift has been opened. Then, we all settle in to enjoy the remainder of this holiday. My family members start to disperse and leave the room, going off to watch TV, relax, or take a nap. Danny, Ashanti, Teresa, James, Michael and I find ourselves taking a walk outside in the snow.
We're bundled up in jackets and hats, our breath fogging in the cold winter air. Michael and I have fallen far behind the rest of our group. The snow falls gently, covering everything in a thick blanket of white. As we walk along the sidewalk, my fingers wrap around his bicep, taking comfort in his strong presence. We're almost completely silent, both of us enjoying the quiet as the light snow falls. it feels calm and peaceful, like time has stood still. The only sound that's breaking the silence is the crunch of snow as we walk along.
I steal glances at Michael, admiring the way the winter sun highlights the rich tones of his skin, casting a warm glow over his features. He looks over at me, the corners of his mouth turning upward.
"This is nice," He finally says softly. We both enjoy the winter air and take in the snow-covered landscape that spreads out before us. The sun warms my skin as we continue to walk and my finger traces circles in his bicep every few steps.
"Yeah, it's such a beautiful day out. This is a nice way to spend Christmas day." I reply, leaning my head on his shoulder. Michael chuckles lightly, smirking a bit as he glances at me.
"I was talking about being here with you." He corrects me, a dimpled grin spreading across his face. I blush as his words catch me off guard and I let go of his arm. "But it does look nice out today. I just prefer to look at you." He reaches out to grab my hand, bringing me in closer. I let out a laugh as he raises an eyebrow at me.
"You thought that was really smooth, huh?" I ask and he rolls his eyes at me.
Michael lets out a chuckle, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "Smooth as butter," he replies with a playful grin. "But hey, can you blame a guy for trying?" I shake my head, laughing softly.
"I suppose not," I admit and we share a laugh, the sound echoing softly in the crisp winter air. It's moments like these, filled with easy banter and genuine laughter, that make me feel grateful for the connection we've formed over the past few days.
As Michael and I walk, engrossed in our conversation, I suddenly realize that the sound of footsteps ahead of us has disappeared. I glance up, only to see Teresa, James, and Ashanti emerge from behind a snow-covered bush, armed with handfuls of snowballs.
Before we can react, snowballs start flying in our direction. I yelp and we brace ourselves for the incoming attack. We're bombarded with snow from all sides, leaving us standing there in shock, covered in a layer of white.
Michael and I exchange a bewildered glance, silence in the air as my brother and cousins laugh at us. Then, without missing a beat, Michael scoops up a handful of snow and tosses it playfully above us. As the snow falls directly on my hat, I can’t help but look at him with a mixture of surprise and amusement.
“Really?” I say with a sarcastic eye roll, shaking my head at his antics.
“Oh, yeah.” He says with a mischievous grin. Michael can't help but break out into a hysterical laugh. "You should see your face," he teases, which makes my expression turn from surprise to annoyance. We both laugh as I reach over and scoop up a snowball, preparing myself to launch it at him.
Before I know it, we’re all engaged in a full-blown snowball fight, laughter ringing out into the winter air as we duck and dodge each other’s icy projectiles.
The snow keeps flying and our breaths fog up the cold winter air. My family and I have always been very competitive, so the snowball fight quickly escalates into a full-blown, no-holds-barred battle. We're all laughing, running, slipping and sliding in the snow, throwing snowballs as fast as we can and ducking to avoid being hit.
In the midst of our snowball fight, Michael reaches out and picks me up, using me as a shield as all the snowballs fire in our direction. I scream as I’m lifted off the ground and hit with one snowball after another.
“Put me down! You’re cheating!” I shout as I laugh loudly.
"You’re just mad you didn’t think of it first!" He laughs, holding me closer to his body, and I have to admit that I do feel safe in his strong arms, even in the middle of a snowball fight.
I struggle against his grip as I’m covered in snow until we both lose balance. We tumble backward into a pile of fresh white fluff, the cold seeping through our jackets, but neither of us cares. Wrapped up in each other’s warmth, we lie there, breathless and giggling like a pair of children.
As we lay there laughing, breathing heavily in between giggles, it feels like the whole world has stopped. The snow continues to fall and the sound of the others laughing and throwing snowballs is a distant echo in the distance. It's just us here in this beautiful winter wonderland. Our eyes meet and we exchange a look of mutual understanding and tenderness as we bask in the moment.
We both sit up as we hear Teresa yelling as she runs towards us. Before we can move, she jumps on top of us, giggling.
“Ugh! Teresa! You’re heavy!” I groan with a laugh as she sprawls out across us.
“Ahhh this is nice!” She says as she ignores my complaints. To my displeasure, James comes and jumps on top of us as well. Michael and I groan at the added weight. They’re both laughing uncontrollably.
“I can’t breathe!” Michael grunts and chuckles as we try and push them off. As if that wasn’t enough, Ashanti and Danny join in the fun, piling on top of us in a heap of laughter and snow-covered limbs. The weight of our combined bodies presses us deeper into the snow, the cold seeping through our clothes, but none of us worry about that as we dissolve into fits of laughter.
“Hey, watch it!” Michael exclaims, his voice muffled by the snow and laughter.
“Sorry, couldn’t resist!” Ashanti giggles, her breath coming out in puffs of white in the chilly air.
“I think we broke Naomi,” Danny jokes, his laughter contagious.
I manage to gasp between giggles, “You guys are ridiculous!” But my protests only elicit more laughter from the others, who seem determined to prolong the moment for as long as possible.
Eventually, though, our laughter subsides, and we lie there in the snow, breathless and content, our hearts full of joy and our spirits light.
As we finally untangle ourselves from the snowy dog pile, we exchange playful swats and teasing remarks. I shiver as Michael helps me stand up.
“God, I’m so cold!” I exclaim and Ashanti nods.
“Yeah, I’m not so sure jumping in the snow was the best idea now.” She admits with her teeth chattering and I raise an eyebrow.
“You think?” I reply.
"Well, it was a good idea at the time," James responds, his words causing everyone to laugh. As the laughter settles, we all start to feel the cold really sink in and we realize how damp and wet we really are.
"I guess it maybe wasn't the best decision," Ashanti admits.
“Yeah, I think we need some hot cocoa after that,” Teresa adds, her cheeks flushed from the cold and laughter.
“How about we change first?” Danny suggests, shaking his head.
“Definitely.” I agree.
“Sounds like a plan,” Michael adds, rubbing his hands together, trying to warm them up in the frigid conditions. The others agree and we make our way inside to get changed.
As we trudge back to the house, our clothes damp and clinging to our skin, we're greeted by the warm glow of the lights shining through the windows. Grandmother is standing by the door, her hands on her hips and a playful twinkle in her eye.
"Well, well, well, what do we have here?" she says with a chuckle, taking in our snow-covered appearance. "Looks like we've got ourselves a bunch of walking icicles!"
We all exchange sheepish glances, realizing just how wet and cold we must look. But Grandmother just laughs and ushers us inside.
"Come on in, you lot," she says, her voice warm and welcoming. "I'll get a fire going and some hot chocolate brewing. You'll warm up in no time." As we all follow her inside, discarding our boots at the door, we all head to our rooms to get out of our clothes. It feels just like when we were kids, always outside, having the time of our lives, then coming back inside to the warmth and comfort that it had to offer.
After shedding my winter clothes, I towel off and slip into a snug green sweater and a pair of black jeans, opting for some plush socks to keep my toes warm. Despite still feeling a bit chilly, the anticipation of the hot chocolate awaiting us downstairs fills me with a sense of warmth.
While freshening up my appearance in front of the mirror, I catch sight of the emerald jewelry set gifted to me by Michael last night. I smile as I think about what it means to me. How thoughtful of a gift it was. Delicately adorned with shimmering green stones, it complements my outfit perfectly. With a smile, I fasten the earrings and clasp the necklace around my neck, admiring how elegantly they enhance my look.
With one last look in the mirror, I step out of my room, ready to join the others when I run into Michael, leaving his room as well. His eyes widen at the sight of me, speechless. I raise an eyebrow at him as he stares at me, waiting for him to say something. After a moment he shakes his head, as if snapping out of a trance and a warm grin spreads across his face.
"You look... wow," He manages to say softly, still taken aback by the sight of me. As his eyes roam over my outfit, they light up at the sight of me wearing his gift. A blush creeps onto my face as I smile shyly and look off to the side.
"I figured it would go nicely with what I'm wearing." I reply, fiddling with the necklace. Michael smiles, his eyes still twinkling as he looks me over from head to toe.
"You look absolutely gorgeous," he compliments, a hint of admiration in his words. Before I can respond, he leans in and plants a gentle kiss on my cheek, sending a flutter of warmth through me. "I'm going to have trouble keeping my eyes off you."
"Well, then look all you want." I giggle as the touch of his lips sends a jolt of electricity through my entire being, leaving me feeling giddy and breathless.
"We should probably get downstairs. I think the hot chocolate is ready." Michael's fingers tug on mine as he nods towards the steps. With a shared smile, we continue our descent down the stairs, hand in hand.
As we reach the bottom, the comforting aroma of hot chocolate fills the air, drawing us into the kitchen where grandmother stands, ladling out steaming cups of cocoa for each of us. I gratefully accept mine, wrapping my hands around the warm mug.
As we gather in the kitchen for the much-needed warm beverage, Grandmother sets out a plate of cookies and other treats, along with some candy canes to help us get in the holiday spirit. The room fills with laughter and good cheer as everyone warms up and catches up with each other. The kids tumble into the kitchen, clamoring for the sweet treats.
"Y'all slow down, them treats ain't gonna run from you." Aunt Pat calls out to them from the living room. The twins giggle and grab a cup of cocoa, running out of the kitchen with a handful of cookies. I smile as I see Jesse waddle into the kitchen, reaching for a candy cane on the counter. I grab it and hand it to her and she smiles up at me.
"Tank you, Titi." She says, before putting the candy cane in her mouth and walking towards Michael. She lifts her chubby arms up in a silent plea to be picked up.
“Aw, how can anyone resist that?” Michael chuckles as he lifts her up and swings her around, making her giggles grow louder with each swing. He holds her high before setting her back down, ruffling her hair and giving her a kiss on the cheek.
"Seems like you're getting pretty popular around here." I giggle, shaking my head as Jesse jumps up and down, wanting to go up again. Michael laughs and shakes his head.
"It seems like it,” Michael replies, amused at the little girl’s attachment to him. Jesse wraps her arms around his legs, looking up at him with big, pleading eyes.
“Up, up?” She demands sweetly, to which Michael gives in and he picks her up again. Teresa laughs and Michael hands Jesse over to her. Jesse starts to whine, not wanting to leave.
"Come on, baby. we gotta get you changed and then it's nap time." Jesse starts to cry but Teresa doesn't budge and leaves to take her upstairs. Michael chuckles as he watches Teresa take the baby away.
“Looks like someone loves you," I nudge him, my voice full of amusement. He takes a sip from his cocoa and I can’t help but stare at how his eyes sparkle as he laughs and the way the warmth of his smile radiates.
"Yeah, I guess she does," Michael chuckles, taking another sip of hot chocolate, and I swear the man is getting more attractive every minute. From across the room, Ashanti notices the way I’m looking at Michael and she can’t help but chuckle, taking the situation entirely out of context.
“Mimi, you're drooling a bit.” Ashanti says, her teasing voice loud enough for us all to hear, and Michael glances sideways at me as he tries to suppress a smirk. I roll my eyes at her and chuckle.
"Whatever, Ashanti. It was just because I wanted a cookie." I say as I pick up one from the plate of treats, taking a bite.
"Uh-huh, tell yourself that, sweetheart." Ashanti replies with a smirk and I can’t help but snicker as she continues to antagonize me. "Just try not to get any on the counter.”
As the chatter and laughter continue to fill the kitchen, Grandmother, with her usual warmth and hospitality, invites us to settle in and make ourselves comfortable. With the fire crackling and the scent of hot chocolate wafting through the air, it's easy to feel at home.
I take a seat at the table, cradling my mug of cocoa in my hands, savoring the rich, chocolatey warmth. This cozy atmosphere and the company of family are the perfect way to spend Christmas. A game of Spades commences and everyone's energy is elevated as time passes quickly.
The living room, magically illuminated by the large Christmas tree, is infused with laughter and shouting as I finish up my cup of hot chocolate. The mood is light and we are all enjoying ourselves. I also can't help but admire how Michael has just gravitated into our family. He fits in seamlessly and I can think back to when I'd seen interviews talking about how good of a guy he is. I'm glad to know that every word is true.
As the minutes blur into hours, the delicious aroma of Christmas dinner wafts through the house and I notice Michael's eyes light up at the scent. I can feel my hunger growing as well. The sun retreats into the horizon and the kids start to get a little rowdy as they are ready to eat. It doesn't help that the plate of treats is long gone.
"Mommy! When is dinner ready? I'm gonna die!" Matthew whines to Teresa, falling into her lap dramatically.
"Any minute now, honey. The table is almost set.” Teresa responds, stroking Matthew's hair and giving him a kiss. He sighs dramatically as he looks around the room, his eyes landing on me as I'm engaged in a conversation with Ashanti and James.
The four of us share a smile at his melodrama and I can’t help but laugh. Teresa lifts his face with her finger and the two of them have a sweet moment.
As if on cue, the dinner bell rings and everyone eagerly gets up, washing up before heading to the dining room. We stand around the table as Grandmother prays over the food and, once she's finished, we all get to work making our plates. Of all the meals we've had on this trip, this one is rightfully the biggest and most delicious. It seems everyone's plan today is to eat their fill.
I load my plate up with plenty of food, earning some looks from my aunts, but I ignore them. As I enter the dining room, I spot Michael sitting next door to Daniel, deep in conversation. I sit down next to him and he glances at me, throwing me a wink as he goes back to the conversation.
Dinner starts off on a cheerful note, with Grandmother praying over the food and everyone digging into the delicious holiday feast. I can't help but feel grateful for my family, despite our shortcomings, I wouldn't ask for a different family.
"This food is really good, Ms. Samuels." Michael says, smiling at my mother and she returns the smile.
"I'm glad you like it, Michael. Eat as much as you like!" She replies. I chuckle a bit as I look over and see Teresa with a plate filled to the brim with food. I hear Aunt Pat tsk.
"Terry, honey, you're not eating for two anymore, you don't have to eat like a pig anymore, you know?" She tells her, as if it's the most normal thing to say. The table goes silent as Teresa stares across the table at her mother.
"Ma, was that really necessary?" She asks, her brow furrowed. Aunt Pat shrugs her shoulders.
"I was just saying, you're not as young as you used to be. All that food is gonna go right to your hips. You already have a long way to go with all that baby weight." Aunt Tina snickers at her sisters words and Teresa doesn't respond, just eating in silence.
"Can we please not do this right now?" Ashanti asks with annoyance. "Just two seconds, please, without your stupid criticisms?!" Aunt Pat and Tina look at each other in disbelief. My mom shakes her head and sighs and Grandmother doesn't seem to be paying attention.
"Let's just talk about something happy? How about that?" I suggest, offering a smile. Aunt Tina turns to me and smirks.
"Okay, then. So, Mimi, since you and Michael seem to be head over heels for each other, are you planning on living off of him so you can keep painting? I mean painting is all well and good, but it's still not a proper career. Maybe now since you have a movie star boyfriend, you shouldn't have to worry about money." She remarks, her tone dripping with condescension.
I feel my face flush, and my hands clench into fists under the table. Even after everything I've said to them, they still are acting this way. I hate always feeling like I have to live up to these stupid expectations. Michael grabs my hand, unballing my fist and linking our fingers. I look up and I open my mouth to speak.
"You know, if you guys actually cared, you'd know that Naomi is a hard worker and her artwork on average goes for a couple thousand dollars per painting. You say all these things like you care about her well being, but she's actually doing really will without you and your criticism." Michael tells her, standing up for me. Aunt Tina's jaw drops as she stammers for a response.
"I'm just saying, she needs a stable job. Her finances rely on whether she makes a good painting or not and she could at any moment in time lose-"
"Hello, hello, hellooooo!" Ashanti interrupts her, tapping her hand on the table. "It's 2023, right? Oh yeah, it is! Yet here you old women are here being bitter and ugly." Teresa nods and opens her mouth to speak as well.
"So many women nowadays are smashing stereotypes left and right. What happened to supporting each other as women? You both just see someone happily living their life you just have to shit on them!" She says, covering Jesse's ears. Mason and Matthew giggle at hearing the profanity. Just as the argument threatens to escalate, Grandmother stands and puts down her utensils.
"Now that's enough, everyone." She demands and everyone falls silent. "Naomi is a grown woman, capable of making her own life decisions. It's her life, and she has the right to choose her own path. You all have lived your lives already and they are nowhere near perfect. Patrice, you're divorced and you've been bitter ever since. Pat your daughter has a beautiful family and is living happily but you always manage to say something to put her down. She's doing an amazing job as a mother, perhaps even better than you." Aunt pat looks down at her plate, not saying anything.
"And Tina you never even got married! You kept pushing all of your ambitions on Ashanti and she grew up not being her true self. All she wanted was your approval and you never even tell her she's done a good job. Her success may be from what you pushed her to do, but Ashanti is a remarkable woman who is allowed to have ambitions of her own." Grandmother points to Aunt Tina and she avoids eye contact.
"These children are the future and shaping the world and you're trying so hard to live through them because you didn't live your lives the way you wanted to. Angie," She points to my mother. "You have raise a smart, beautiful, and talented daughter and she is making her mark on the world. You did such an amazing job raising her, but you need to do a better job at defending her as well. That's your baby girl, and you don't even notice how much your sisters make her feel bad about herself."
"Ashanti, Teresa, Naomi, I've got some words for you three as well. Indeed these women haven't been the kindest, but these are your mothers, you hear me. You treat them with respect, always. Now, that doesn't mean to let them walk all over you and I'm proud of you girls for looking out for each other, but never is it acceptable to call them names or to curse at them." She tells us sternly. She looks over at Daniel and he looks back at her, wondering what he did.
"Daniel, you have been the family's golden child all your life. You haven't had to deal with a lot of what these young ladies did, but if you see something, you better speak up! There is no being neutral when it comes to you cousins and your little sister. Especially your sister!" She lectures him as he nods, looking over at us.
"James, you are a wonderful match for my grandbaby Teresa. I am so happy she was able to find you and create a gorgeous family. Remember that your wife is number one always, and teach your kids to respect their mother. And Michael." She turns to him and he raises his eyebrows a bit. "Ever since you came and started getting close to my Naomi, she has been happier than I've seen her in years. If you're serious about liking her, you better protect her happiness, because for too long, Mimi hasn't had that type of trust and protection." Michael looks at me and nods his head as well.
"We are a family. We're all we got. So, shape up and love each other, or things will get really ugly around here." Grandmother says, concluding her speech and sitting down. It's silent for a moment and no one moves. I can see the shame on Aunt Tina and Pat's faces, even my mothers. They mumble apologies and we all agree to move past the tension, in an effort to mend our family. I catch Grandmother's eye and she smiles at me.
I mouth the words, "Thank you," to her and she nods at me. I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for her, as she's always been my biggest supporter. I feel Michael squeeze my hand reassuringly and I smile at him.
As dinner draws to a close, Michael leans over, bringing my hand to his lips and gently kissing my knuckles.
"You handled that well," He whispers, his breath warm on my ear, sending shivers down my spine. "Your family clearly has their ups and downs, but it's obvious that you are loved by many. And I can see why. You're strong, talented, and beautiful inside out." He tells me, flashing a charming smile at me. My cheeks flush at his words, and I feel a giddy smile spread across my face.
"Thank you, Michael. That really means a lot, coming from you. I don't know how many times I can say it, but I'm really grateful that I met you and got to get to know you." I tell him and I lean in and kiss his cheek. He puts his arm around my shoulder and presses a kiss to my temple as sit at the table still.
"Hey, last ones at the table have to clean it up!" Ashanti calls from the kitchen. Michael and I look at each other and burst out laughing, shaking our heads as we stand up and start cleaning off the table.
Later, Michael and I are relaxing in the living room with Teresa, Ashanti, Daniel, and James. With Michaels arm around me, I feel a sense of contentment as we reminisce over the events these past few days. We playfully tease Ashanti about her outburst at the market and we talk about our favorite memories as well. It really feels like the end to a cheesy Hallmark movie.
Michael leans into my ear and whispers, "So, about our flight tomorrow morning. I may have gotten you a little something else to go along with it." I raise an eyebrow and look at him.
"A little something else?" I question. He leads me upstairs to his guest room and opens his closet. It holds several shopping bags and I open them to find brand-new clothes. "Michael, what? Why did you buy these?" I ask him. He chuckles at my shocked reaction.
"I know you most likely only packed enough for your trip here, but I want you to have options when we go to LA. I've got a lot planned for us and I didn't want you to have to worry about a thing." He explains. "I also wanted to spoil you, I think it's become my new hobby." He jokes. I stand up and turn to him, pouting. He raises an eyebrow but then I wrap my arms around his waist and bury my face in his chest. He laughs a bit as he holds me close to him.
"Why are you so perfect~" I ask in a playful whine, looking up at him.
"I'm far from perfect, sweetheart," he tells me with a smile. "Just head over heels, like Aunt Tina said." He leans down and presses a gentle kiss to my forehead, pulling me even closer. I cringe at his words and giggle.
"Ew, no. We don't use that phrase anymore." I tell him as I pretend to barf. Michael chuckles at my over the top reaction and faked a look of hurt, clutching his chest dramatically.
"Oh, yep- you got me right in the heart-" He grunts as he pretends to die. I roll my eyes at him.
"Whatever." I giggle and try to walk away, but he grabs my hand and pulls me back in. He locks his arms around me so I can't escape and starts trailing kisses on my neck, making his way to my lips. I fight back as best as I can, but I eventually give in, giggling against his lips.
We continue to kiss passionately, his hands roaming across my body, relishing the feeling of my skin under his fingertips. Eventually, I pull away, slightly out of breath, but completely enamored with him.
"Sorry, I couldn't help it. You taste so good," He murmurs, his voice husky and filled with desire. "We should probably get to packing, we have an early day tomorrow." Michael's hands rest on my hips, his thumbs trailing over my curves.
"Yeah, you're right. Cause I'm goin' to LA!" I squeal excitedly and he grins at my enthusiasm, feeling a mix of excitement and affection swelling in his chest.
"Yep, and it's gonna be the best trip of your life. That's a guarantee." He winks at me and plants a few more kisses on my lips before detaching himself from me, though not without sneaking a playful pat on my butt as I walk away. I giggle and turn back to him. "Come on, let's get packing.
The rest of the day, everyone is preparing to leave. Teresa and her family are leaving tonight, as well as Ashanti, claiming she has business to attend to. I give my cousins a warm goodbye and we all promise to keep in touch. My aunts are silent for the rest of the night, which is a nice change for once. I finish up packing and Daniel, Michael and I spend time talking by the fireplace. Eventually, we all retire to our rooms, resting up for the next day.
In the morning, Grandmother is up early and cooks a hearty meal for those who haven't left yet. We thank her and eat up, knowing this might be the last homecooked meal we have for a while. Daniel was driving back to LA, but he offered to drop us off at the airport. We took our time saying goodbye to the family and I made a point to even say goodbye to my aunts. It's better to leave on a good note.
As I stand in the living room, waiting for Michael to come down with the rest of our bags. I pause for a moment, taking in the familiar, comforting surroundings—the well-worn couch, the stack of board games, and the photos on the mantle, both old and new, all reminders of the eventful holiday I've just had.
I hear footsteps on the stairs and see Michael descending the stairs.
"Ready to go, beautiful?" He asks, pulling me into a warm embrace. I encircle my arms around his neck, feeling my hear skip a beat.
"Yeah, just about." I smile, taking in your familiar scent, leaning up and capturing your lips in a kiss. Daniel clears his throat noisily from the foyer, causing us to break apart.
"Ahem, I'm happy for you two, really, but we've got a schedule to keep, folks. Time to hit the road." He tells us and we chuckle, grabbing the last of our stuff and putting it in his car. We say our last goodbyes before heading out to the car. Michael and I sit in the backseat of Dan's car, getting comfy as the car starts. As we pull off, I watch as my childhood home disappears around the corner, bidding it a silent farewell. I felt a twinge of sadness for the difficulties I faced these past few days, but I feel Michael take my hand in his and my mood is replaced with excitement for what's to come.
When we arrive at the airport, Daniel helps Michael unload our luggage. I give him a big hug, saying goodbye for now.
"Thank you for everything, Daniel. Not just for bringing Michael into my life, but just being my brother and looking out for me. I love you."
Daniel returns the hug, his voice a bit gruff with affection. "Love you to, Mimi. Now go and have some fun. Just remember to call, text, or send a smoke signal now and then to let me know you're okay." He tells me. I nod and he daps up Michael, claiming they'll see each other at work. As we grab our stuff and walk towards the entrance, Daniel calls after us.
"Hey! Take care of my little sister, or I'll come looking for you, Jordan," Daniel warns with a playful growl.
"Will do, I won't let anything happen to her," Michael assures him. And with that, we wave him goodbye. I am unable to wipe my smile off my face as we check in and make our way through customs. We board our plane and settle into our seats and I look out the window at the world outside as we wait to lift off.
"This is it," Michael says, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "Our first of many trips together. I can't wait to show you all the best spots in LA." My heart races as I look into Michael's eyes.
"I'm so excited. I can't wait to see what's in store for us." I reply and we lace our fingers together, smiling warmly at each other. I feel incredibly fortunate to have Michael by my side— a man who seems to understand me so well and who has already woven himself into the fabric of my life and family.
As the plane ascends, I gaze out the window, watching the snowcapped mountains give way to fluffy white clouds. I feel a sense of peace and contentment, knowing that whatever lay ahead, I have the love and support of my family, and now Michael, to see me through it all.
Little did I know that this trip would mark the beginning of a new chapter in my life—one where I never have to go through anything alone anymore, one where I find true happiness and realize just how blessed I truly am.
As I think back on the events of this trip, it really had a little of everything. We had a lot of fun, a bit of drama, a budding romance. When I look back, this truly was a December to remember...

winter solstice today. i wish i could’ve made a tts drawing bc i think they celebrate yule/the winter solstice in corona instead of christmas or anything but alas 🫡
oh well. hc time. they all kinda spend the holidays like kids of divorced parents tbh LOLL….. the royal family are very involved in corona’s holiday traditions and rapunzel really just loves Being with people so shes busy with her family and partners all day….like they always host a big feast at the castle where everyone is welcome and raps makes sure nobody leaves without presents. she picks out gifts especially for all the castle staff too!!! so all in all shes SUPER busy on the actual day of the solstice. rapunzels the kind of person who already started planning for the holidays in october. shes probably been making presents since like july. girl is PREPARED
varian and hugo usually stay with quirin for the holidays because they dont like all the big crowds at the capital, but later in the day they always try to make it for the party. lance and the girls go ALL OUT like theyre dressing up and hes making a huge breakfast and everything. their house always has the most decorations on it. also bc they live nearby quirin and the boys usually end up joining them for breakfast and they collectively have SOOO many sweets the girls make themselves sick
but the whole family always gathers at the castle at the end of the day to have a little sleepover and exchange gifts the next day teehee :3
its very based on ancient germanic paganism and how people celebrated the solstice before christianity took over. so there are a few traditions i like to pull from that, like hanging dried oranges on evergreen trees as a symbol of the sun, representing the return of light and warmth during the winter season!! since they follow the solar/lunar cycles very closely, the long night and the sunrise that follows is like a “rebirth” of the sun and its honestly very akin to a new years celebration for them even though its. Not the new year LOL.
they all exchange gifts both bc. yk. love and friendship and stuff and because it represents the “gift” of life given to them from the heavens. the whole celebration is very engrained in coronan culture so most people will celebrate regardless of whether they follow the sun or another celestial power….i think maybe the dark kingdom has different traditions but i havent fully fleshed that out yet.
nuru and yong both have different celebrations in their own kingdoms (like bayangor definitely has something akin to chinese new year) so they usually cant make it for yule, but team radical always try to get together early in the year. if not after the holidays, they always make it in time for varian’s birthday in march ^_^

11 and 21 for the ask game? (also oooh, werewolf story!)
thanks for the ask! and yes, i've found that i think werewolves are actually pretty cool, though i prefer them in a medieval fantasy setting, rather than the pretty common urban setting
11. Something you want to do again next year?
i've got two answers to this, one that's a proper answer but not that exciting, and one that's half an answer but more exciting. firstly, i really hope i can perform more next year, playing music, especially together with other people. i haven't gotten to do that in such a long time, bc of covid and growing out of my old choir, and recently when i was performing some christmas songs with a small group i realized how much i missed performing and playing music together with other people.
the other thing is that.. i wanna go to a night club again next year, except not really. i went to a night club for the first time in my life this year (and also for the first time in my life saw a metal gig - both in one go), and while i'm not like super into going to a night club again, i'm really happy about how positive the experience was, and i feel like if i had a reason to go, i could go again! it wasn't as scary as i thought it would be! if you wanna twist this into a proper answer to the question, maybe you could say that next year i wanna try to get out of my comfort zone again, bc that's what i did going to that club and i'm so happy with myself for doing that
21. What’s something new about your place of residence (room, home, or general location) now vs the start of the year?
this is actually a very recent thing, but it's one that i'm really happy about, and that's a new electric piano! my old one didn't have weighted keys, and was shorter, so i didn't really like playing it and honestly it was just gathering up dust, but with recommendations from my teacher i just got myself a new proper electric piano! it feels sooo much better to play, and during the weekend i also got myself a drum stool (my piano teacher also recommended this, bc the height adjustment is good and they're easier to carry around than piano stools), so now i've been playing the piano a lot more as i can get the proper feel and my playing position is much better

[A Good Kid No Longer] - Chloe SSR Card Story Translation
Tumblr media
Ft. Chloe, Riquet, and Akira
Christmas Stockings Crocheted With Dreams - Chapter 1
As gleaming crystals of every color drifted upon us like snow, Chloe, Riquet, and I walked through the festival streets, entranced by the scenery of the bustling town.
Akira: There are so many street stands here; it’s completely packed with people!
Chloe: No kidding! And since we’re here, it’d be nice to get something as a memento.
Chloe: …Ah! Those red balls of yarn…
Riquet: What a brilliant color. They match our clothing.
Chloe: …Hold on guys, I’ve gotta go get some!
Chloe: Sorry to keep you guys waiting! I kinda ran off on my own there.
Akira: It’s no problem! I’m glad you found something good. Are you planning on making something with that?
Chloe: Yeah! I figured it’d be a good keepsake.
Chloe: But I’m not quite sure what to make.
Hmm, it’s gotta be something soft and fluffy…
Riquet: Oh, I have an idea. What if you made a giant sock?
Chloe: A giant sock?
Riquet: The Master Sage told me about it. In their world, people hang giant socks by their bedside on Christmas Eve.
Chloe: Hang them up? You don’t wear them?
Akira: Nope! In my world, there’s a legend that says Santa Claus will leave presents in giant stockings on Christmas night.
Akira: So in order to get gifts, people will decorate the house with them before going to sleep.
Chloe: Ohh, I see…
Chloe: In that case, let’s try it out! I’ll make stockings so big, Santa can’t help but wanna fill ‘em up with lots and lots of presents.
Chloe: I can also add all sorts of decorations that wouldn’t fit on regular socks. Maybe something big and unconventional, or some sort of noise-maker!
Riquet: That sounds like a wonderful idea! Once you’re finished, please let us be the first to see it.
Chloe: Hmm, but I was also thinking… if the two of you are up for it… we could make the stockings together.
Akira: Can we?
Chloe: Of course! It’s better to make memories with others than by yourself!
Riquet: Then I’ll join in!
Chloe: Ahaha, great! In that case, let’s keep browsing the street stalls for the perfect decorations!
As the festival grew even busier, we spread out to find matching accessories for our stockings.
Chloe: Uuu, both the rainbow-colored tape and scarlet ribbon are sooo cute and trendy, but… I can’t decide which one to get!
Riquet: Look what I found! There were so many pretty charms. I got some for both of you too!
Akira: Oh, thank you, Riquet. We’ve gathered a real assortment of decorations, huh? …Oh!
From the corner of my eye, something catches my attention: a shiny, red bell hanging from the window of a souvenir shop.
Christmas Stockings Crocheted with Dreams - Chapter 2
Akira: (That’s right, bells are a Christmas staple. It’s nostalgic seeing one here.)
Akira: (Oh, and it sounds the same too. Even though I’m in a different world, the sound hasn't changed, huh? That makes me kinda happy.)
Riquet: Master Sage, is that a bell?
Akira: Yes, it is. It’s got a nice sound right?
Chloe: Sure does! It’s kinda quiet, but has a smooth, clear ring to it. It really draws you in.
Chloe: It’s a little small, but probably the perfect size for the stockings. Do you guys wanna get three so we can all match?
Riquet: Yes! They also go along with the crystals that I bought, so let’s look for two more.
Akira: That’s a great idea! However, this is the only one I’ve found here… Maybe if we check on the other shelves?
My gaze drifted over to the shelves lined against the walls, teeming with knick-knacks.
However, in the end, despite the three of us searching every corner of the store, we could only find that single red bell.
Akira: I guess this really was the last one…
Chloe: What a bummer… but since you were the one who found it, you should get to keep it.
Riquet: I also agree.
Akira: T- thanks you guys.
Akira: (Although, I’m a little disappointed since we said we would match with each other…)
Shopkeep: Hey, you youngins’ there. Did you take a liking to that bell?
Akira: Oh! Yes, we did, but it looks like there’s only one left…
Shopkeep: Hmm, in that case, why don’t I take a look in the back for y’all?
Chloe: Huh, for real? Thanks so much, sir!
Shopkeep: Sorry for keepin’ y’all.
Chloe: Ah, no worries! Did you find the bell?
Shopkeep: Hmm, ‘bout that… it seems I’ve run out of stock. I s'pose that really was the last one.
Riquet: Oh, I see…
Shopkeep: However, I did find something else that might interest ya’ instead.
Saying this, the old shopkeeper lugged out two enormous reindeer figures with red bells tied around their necks.
Riquet: They’re huge…
Akira: T- that has to be ten times bigger than a stocking…
Shopkeep: Well, they’re a little on the large side, but the bells around their necks are a perfect match for the one in your hand.
Shopkeep: Here, why don’t you give them a little ring to test it out?
*ring*
Chloe: Whoa! It really is the same!
Riquet: But wouldn’t it be a little hard to decorate our stockings with these…
Chloe: …Alright, I've got it!
Akira: C- Chloe?
Chloe: Don’t worry, I think I have an idea. Hey, mister, could’ya ring these up for us? The red bell too, please!
Riquet & Akira: Huh!?
Shopkeep: Yessir, it’d be my pleasure!
Christmas Stockings Crocheted with Dreams - Chapter 3
Chloe: That shopkeeper was a pretty nice guy, huh?
Akira: Hey, Chloe? I totally get buying the bell, but can we talk about the giant reindeer for a sec!?
Riquet: How big are you planning on making these stockings… I feel like they’d capsize if we hung them up…
Chloe: And I totally agree! At this size, there’s no way we can use them as decorations.
Chloe: So that’s why…
Chloe: Suispicibo Voitingoc!
Immediately after Chloe casted his spell, the reindeer began to shrink until they reached the size of my thumb.
Riquet & Akira: Whoa!
Riquet: At this size, we can use them as decorations now!
Chloe: Exactly! But hold on, I’m not done yet.
Chloe: Master Sage, could I borrow that bell for a bit?
Akira: Oh, o- of course.
Chloe: Suispicibo Voitingoc!
Right before our eyes, the red bell and ball of yarn slowly floated into the air.
Riquet & Akira: Wow!
Hovering above us, the yarn began to weave itself together as if it had come alive. Slowly but surely, a certain shape began to emerge…
Akira: Oh! Are you crocheting a reindeer plushie?
Chloe: Nice one, Master Sage! Right on the dot!
With a final twirl of his finger, Chloe finished the reindeer by tying the bell around its neck.
Chloe: Here you are, Master Sage! Thanks for letting me borrow your bell.
Akira: No, thank you! I never would’ve thought of making a reindeer from the yarn.
Chloe: Ehehe, I was just thinking we could match this way.
Chloe: Although, I kinda just went and did all of that on my own… are you guys ok with it?
Riquet: Ok? I think this was a great idea! Your ideas are like the surprise in a treasure chest, isn’t that right, Master Sage?
Akira: I wholeheartedly agree. This is amazing, Chloe!
Chloe: Really? I’m so glad you guys like it!
Chloe: Alright, let’s hurry back to the manor, so we can make our stockings! They’re gonna be the biggest and cutest ever!
Riquet & Akira: Yeah!
Shorts for Everyone - Card Episode
Akira: Chloe! Thanks for inviting us to make stockings with you that time!
Chloe: And thanks for bein’ there! I got so much inspiration from you, so it was super fun!
Akira: Hey, is there a difference between making stockings versus regular socks?
Chloe: Oh, lots! Normally, socks are hidden by your shoes, right?
Chloe: That’s why, it’s more important to focus on the material and details like how warm or comfortable it is over the design.
Akira: I see, so it’s more about the functionality.
Chloe: Yep! But because we got to prioritize the design this time, I had loooots of fun picking out decorations and colors to make them pop!
Chloe: I’ve always thought of socks as accents, but this showed me that they can be the focus too!
Chloe: That’s why, I wanna try making a line of fashion socks!
Akira: Fashion socks? I want to see that!
Chloe: Really? Then, I’ll get started on the designs right away!
Chloe: I should think of some shorts to go with them too, ones that show off your legs like the kind Lords Snow and White have. Ooh, Mitile and Riquet too.
Chloe: If I tried making matching shorts for Lord Oz, Mithra, and everyone else, I could probably learn something new!
Akira: Wait… Oz and Mithra too!?
Chloe: Yes! I’m getting hit with so much inspiration right now! Once I’m done with all of the designs, I’ll come show you so please look forward to it!
Home Screen Voice Line
"Hmm, this one's nice... The gentle color is perfect for the Master Sage. Oh, but it's a bit flashy, huh? Man, I'm in a real twist over what present to get them... Ack! Master Sage, since when...!? B- by any chance, did you happen to overhear any of that...?"

Christmas Eve (1/5)
Sanders Sides: Janus, Patton, Roman, Virgil Pairings: Past Roceit (was toxic), Familial Moceit (Dad Janus, Son Patton)  Blurb: Of all the barriers that Janus expected to have to overcome in order to get his son a pet for Christmas, encountering his Ex, Roman, working in the pet store had never once crossed his mind.  Fic Type: Christmas!Eve Fic, Past Lovers to Enemies to ??? trope, Dad!Janus, Kid!Patton, MythicalMin!AU, Frogmin!AU Overall Fic Warnings: Past Toxic Relationship Talk, Manipulation/Lying Talk  Taglist in Reblog.
It was one thing to know that parents -not his by any means- but other parents loved to give their kids pets for Christmas. But Janus had never realized just how...well popular the concept was in practice.
Now, fifteen pet stores later, he was well acquainted with the fact that everyone within a hundred and fifty mile radius seemed to have had the same thought he had had months ago.
Silently--because his kid was in the car with him and he would not swear where those sensitive ears could hear him--Janus cursed as he finally finagled his way into a parking spot and turned off the car.
With all his research. With all his preparation. Janus hadn’t stopped to consider that pet stores could actually run out of the animals that they sold. He’d just assumed that if there were a good two dozen creatures in the cage in August when he’d first looked into gathering supplies for his son then there would be a good two dozen creatures in the cage in December as well. That he could simply pop into the store Christmas Eve and waltz out five minutes later triumphant.
He’d been a fool. Apparently pets were as hot of a commodity as electronics and toys were. And they too, unfortunately, had a limit in availability.
He had spent most of today regretting not buying his son a Frogmin earlier. He definitely regretted telling him that they would be getting him one this morning as an early Christmas present from him to only have the sun setting after an entire day spent in the car. He regretted--Janus jumped as a small hand patted his arm.
“You’re still the best Daddy, Daddy.” Patton said, leaning into view, a wide smile on his face even as tears shimmered in his eyes.
Despite himself he scoffed, raising a hand to cradle his son’s cheek. The Best? His little Lilypatton was doing his best to not cry on the most magical night of the year and he thought he was the best?!
“Liar.” He murmured.
Patton flashed him another heart-melting grin. “Truther!” He retorted, patting his arm again. “You’re trying, Daddy. That’s what counts. And you’ve tried sooo hard for me.”
He had. But that didn’t make this situation any better--okay it did make him feel a little better. That his son didn’t hate him for making a promise that he would have to break if this pet store also was out of Frogmins. But that didn’t stop him from feeling like the biggest failure in the world.
On Christmas Eve no less.
It would be nice, for once, if he could just succeed in something without having to climb a bloody mountain every time. It would be nice if he could have his little Hallmark movie moment and have everything work out.
But no. Even when he was trying to do something good for someone else...he still failed. Janus dropped his hand to Pattey’s little ones, giving them a squeeze. “Odds?” He asked, tilting his head to the door.
Patton bit his lip, climbing into his lap to get a better view of the store with a gaudy castle emblem, grey stonework, and the customers constantly streaming in and out. “I say Eight!”
Janus blinked, wrapping his arms tightly around his son in a hug as he gave the place another once over as well. That was...far more optimistic than the last four stores they’d gone to. Maybe Pattey just liked the castle. He was a fan of Princes after all. Especially the Frog ones. “I’m gonna stick with Two.” He said pushing open the car door and angling himself so Pattey could easily jump out.
“But look at all the people!” His son argued, slipping his hand into Janus’s as soon as he’d locked the car.
“I’ve looked….what am I supposed to see?” He asked, raising an eyebrow.
Pattey gestured wide. “They’re all smiling when they leave!” He followed suit by giving Janus a wide toothy grin that showed three empty spaces where he’d lost his teeth two and a half weeks earlier.
“And?”
Patton practically skipped in place, only held back from dancing around him by the fact that Janus was not letting him leave his side in such a busy parking lot. “That means they found what they wanted! So that means we will too!”
No, it meant that with his abysmal luck, they would once again be just slightly too late. Their Christmas moment ruined. This store did close in ten minutes after all. They had to have run out of a few creatures. Had to have denied some customers their Christmas miracle.
Still...Janus again studied the faces of the people passing them. His kid had a point. Everyone they passed was smiling. Their hands were full of bags and...his heart skipped a beat. And boxes with holes. Holes that had movement. That showed a tiny hand or a little foot. That let him hear the tiny hisses and croaks and mews.
He smirked, winking at his son. “I’m sticking with two.”
“Daaaaaddddd!!!”
Janus laughed, shaking his head. “Three then.” These people had found the pets they were looking for even at this late hour. Maybe--He squeezed Pattey’s hand, allowing a small flicker of hope to burn in his chest as they walked inside. Maybe this time...they would finally succeed--
He looked up only to feel that small flicker of hope fade as soon as he saw an achingly familiar figure approaching them. It was crushed the moment he could read the name tag on his shirt. Pulverized when he looked up into the intricate, ever shifting, amber eyes that he’d spent most of college daydreaming about. And it subsequently burned to ashes the moment Roman Prince opened his mouth to probably greet them with the standard shop greeting...only to say nothing as recognition and then hatred flared like a raging inferno in his eyes.

I was wondering if you do a poly Mad Trigger Crew Christmas story about tree decorating or gift giving, if possible please? I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance! I love those guys so much, especially Samatoki!!
Thanks so much for the ask! I love poly MTC! So before I get into the holiday stuff I want to get into some head canons I have about Riou:
He’s the youngest of his siblings- definitely the “surprise baby” as his older sisters were like 18 and 20 when he was born. His parents due to them needing to take care of their parents in the USA and Japan, split their time between the countries so Riou grew up in both cultures. When he was of school age he would stay in the US with his sisters, aunts and uncles and in the breaks and summers go to Japan. As he got older(high school age) he decided to transfer to be closer to his family in Japan and help take care of his grandparents to allow at least one of his parents to return to the US.
Riou’s American side of the family are Japanese-Americans who’ve intermarried other Americans generally from the upper-Midwest so he spent a lot of time in Illinois and Michigan. A lot of them are survivalists, military vets, hunters, you get the idea and their influence on Riou. His family is also hella large and a mishmash of cultures and traditions on the American side of the family and so grew up with large family gatherings at the holidays. Like come over to “Auntie’s and help her and your cousins make a years worth of gyoza and pierogis” on a random night in December type gatherings. The whole show your love through food / experimenting with food came from this side of the family. And because he was the youngest, he was often being looked over by the adults who were in charge of the food before he was old enough to go hunting. So Riou grew up in the kitchens on both sides of his family.
After the war, Riou is alone in Japan. His parents are trapped in the US as Chuoku has limited travel in and out of Japan, and they’re being incredibly hard on individuals who are dual-citizens trying to re-enter the country. His smaller and older Japanese-side of the family have passed over the years. He does have a few distant cousins but again due to Riou being significantly younger than them/Riou keeping a low profile he’s not in contact too much.
Again his American-side is quite large and he’s still in close contact with them as he’s able. So when Samatoki and Jyuto came into the picture, naturally Riou’s family are curious. You know who doesn’t have a lot of extended family? Samatoki and Jyuto. They’re both orphans, and just so happened that each of their parents were only children. Sooo the first time Riou tried to introduce them to his family via web-call he had to prep his partners. And while he tried to keep it to his immediate family, he knew more than likely a few cousins or aunts and uncles may crash the call. Thank goodness he’d given both of Jyuto and Samatoki a family tree with names and pictures to study ahead of time because, yup- the family crashed the call. Comparatively to Riou, they’re all loud and well, “American”, but they can see where the warm earnestness Riou has comes from . The call goes well- Riou and Jyuto translate for Samatoki for the times the Japanese gets switched to English. After the call, Samatoki and Jyuto figure okay, “we’ve done the meeting the family thing, they’re an ocean away. We should be good. We only have to deal with Riou and our little trio.”
They were wrong. The next holiday season they get INUNDATED gifts from Riou’s family (Riou has a hookup to get him packages from the US to Japan)- hand-knit holiday sweaters, blankets, sweets, gloves, hand-carved ornaments of the MTC logo, etc.. It’s a bit overwhelming at first for each of them who’ve been alone for a while and cut off from family, but they’re touched(as well as they can express it) but accept the gifts happily- esp since the food items are made with normal food. Jyuto and Samatoki are proving to be popular additions to the family. Riou is happy…but worried for the day when his mom eventually figures her way into Japan; she’s the one who taught Riou his survival cooking and is very huggy- pray for Jyuto and Samatoki.
Okay so now that Riou’s family hc is out of the way:
Gift giving between the three, while expensive, is pragmatic. Samatoki and Jyuto tend to give Riou things for his base camp like plush sleeping mats or a California king sized camp bedding system that the three of them can sleep under one blanket/bedding rather than Riou connecting three sleeping bags together which often ends up in a tangle due to adult activities or someone (not Riou) trying to exit the tent not gracefully in the middle of the night…and no,they’re not giving him things which make their lives easier when they stay with him. Jyuto and Riou will gift Samatoki nice dress shirts or a warmer leather jacket because Samatoki despite his gruff exterior is a fancy boy. Riou and Samatoki will give Jyuto high quality items for his growing coffee bar at home. During the holidays they’ll team up to go in on a gift for eachother, because the holidays are the time for the bigger gifts- birthdays are usually date-nights/food related and not really wallet-hitting. Jyuto and Riou’s birthdays are a few weeks apart and Samatoki’s is close to Christmas. So Holidays are when the bigger gifts are given.
As for celebrating- on Christmas Eve they’ll get together at Jyuto’s to attempt to make fried chicken. They go to Jyuto’s because he has the bigger kitchen/they don’t want to risk Riou possibly burning down the forest because he decided to fry whatever creature ended up in his traps. They use Riou’s family’s recipe for fried chicken- he’ll make a traditional “American” fried chicken dinner with potatoes and gravy. Samatoki and Jyuto are in charge of sides like tamagoyaki, spicy edamame, and making the Christmas Cake- Samatoki handles this usually as he used to make it for/with Nemu. His parents weren’t around a lot during the holidays so he learned to make it since it was often cheaper to make a small cake than buy one; then when it was the two of them, even if they had combini food for Christmas dinner, Samatoki always made sure they could afford make a good cake for them two of them. Things are shitty right now between him and Nemu, but that doesn’t mean that he won’t share this small tradition that he started on his own, with his lovers.
They eat and drink themselves into a stupor and spend most of Christmas sleeping it off or getting up to adult fun. If they’re awake enough they usually end up on the couch watching Christmas movies or holiday variety shows while Samatoki and Jyuto slowly chain smoke a carton between them.
The week between Christmas and the New Year is busy. Jyuto and Riou spend time cleaning out their living spaces before going over to make sure Samatoki’s is ready before they leave for Izu . Their annual trip is the easiest way for them to go on a vacation together as Jyuto is off from work and Samatoki knows that the Katen Famiky won’t need him. It’s a nice trip to just reset their minds ahead of New Years and enjoy each other’s company. They’ll drive over to Izu and stay in a ryokan nestled in the woods. The days in Izu are spent relaxing, going antiquing (for Jyuto), pursuing vintage shops (for Samatoki), and hiking (for Riou). On New Year’s Eve though, they’ll camp out in the woods to they can get up a few hours early to watch the first sunrise of the new year together.
After they wake up on New Year’s Day they’ll head back to Yokohama so Samatoki can observe Hatsumode (first shrine visit) with the Katen Family (Jyuto and Samatoki’s higher ups will all pretend to not notice each other). They pay their respects at the shrine, buy omikuji/fortune slips, and head out to one of Samatoki’s favorite Soba places (Samatoki always has a table there as a thank you for that one time he beat up the proprietor’s predatory landlord) for lunch, before heading back to Jyuto’s to feast upon the many Osechi ryori boxes Jyuto’s extorted coworkers bosses have sent to him for a job well done that year.
The day ends with a call to Riou’s family, a few ash trays full of cigarettes, stomachs full from good food and beer, and them passed out across each other, ready for a new year of walking Yokohama, busting drug rings, and division rap battles

I LOVE THE MUD DOGS THEY MAKE ME WHOLE
Okay so I was wondering if you could do a leonard x GN reader. Since it's around Christmas the idea i came up with was that the reader takes leonard out (lets say the Lost City has its own weather system so then they can get the same weather as New York) and its snowing and the reader starts a snowball fight and then they go for hot chocolate and Leonard gets all flustered at how beautiful his crush is with snow in their hair and they keep each other warm ❤❤
Someone Special
L.Leonard x G-N! Reader [Oneshot]
Relationship: Pining - Romantic
Warnings: Fluff, Holiday feels.
A/N: This is super later, I know, but it's still snowing sooo...Take it :)
Tumblr media
The ogre cracked his eyes open, groggily stirring awake at the feel of something weighing on one side of his bed, causing it to dip. His first instinct is to ignore it, but then he heard a quiet 'hey' call out to the darkness of his room, so he half-assedly turned to peek over his shoulder.
To Leonard's surprise, his gaze fell upon yours, your features brandishing a childish grin. He blinked away the sleep in his eyes, making way to face you head-on. Though he pulled his sheets closer to his chest, remembering the reason why people weren't supposed to come into his room in the morning.
"Nnn'wha...what you doin'?"
"Come on, lazy bones, you're getting up."
"Noho, I'm not." He countered you in a low grumble, laying back into his pillow.
"But I gotta show you something." You drew out in a whispered whine, slumping your shoulders at his lack of interest.
Slapping his hands to his face, he rubbed hard circles into his sockets with his palms, groaning heavily. He knew he should have been admirable of your enthusiasm, usually finding content in your energetic attitude, but God, it was too early. "Don't you have to be annoying somewhere else?"
"Not until five."
"If it's the snow, I saw it already las' night."
"Shhhhh, sh, sh, sh." You wavered a hand in front of his face, then whipped open the curtains to his window before making way to stand at the doorway. "It's noon. Have a piss and get dressed. We're going out."
He groaned again, lolling his head back, lacking all motivation. But you weren't budging, which got him to sit up with a roll of his eyes. "Fine. Give me ten minutes."
Doing as he was told, he did just that. But now he found himself out in the white-sheeted streets, wrapped up head to toe with you close to his side.
He would be dumb to question himself as to why he was out here when all he could be doing was staying in bed all day due to the lack of plans they have had recently. He had his heart set on his time of loafing, but then there was you.
He wasn’t complaining, because he enjoyed having you around and you were essential to the group’s dynamic. Although, the flip he would feel in his stomach made it hard to stray so close to your side, the positive heat you radiated made his palms clammy.
But you were addictive, and you had a habit of persuading him in the easiest of ways.
Never stopped him from grumbling here and there, though.
“Aren’t you cold? We should just head back inside.” He turned to you, noting how your regard was focused on your feet, listening closely to the crunch of the snow beneath your boots.
“And have you burrow away in that cave you call a bedroom? Hell no, it’s snowing.”
The ogre huffed in response, shoving his fists deeper into his coat pockets while you both strode side by side down the sidewalk. You didn’t have a set course in mind, but you were aware of Loathsome’s appreciation of aimless walks, even if he weren’t showing it much at this moment.
“Do you not like the snow or somethin’? You’re not usually this grouchy when we go out.”
“I do,” He sighed. “But I know fully well Mick would’ve forced me out at some point anyway, so I wanted to at least chill out for a bit.”
You peeked up at your friend with a pull at your lips. “Was that pun intentional?”
“I...no, it wasn’t.”
“Hm...”
He watched your mouth curve into a slight frown, making him regret saying anything at all. Why did you still want him out with you with his sour attitude? You were so adamant to staying outside, it had him genuinely confused.
Being sidetracked by his thoughts, Leonard didn't realise you had paused in your steps until he heard you chirp up from behind.
“I think I have something that’ll cheer you up!”
“What d'ya mean-” He swivelled around to be interrupted by a snowball lightly hitting his shoulder, along with you stifling a snort at the look that adorned his face.
Subsiding the initial shock, Len sent you an iffy attempt at a grin. “Seriously?”
“Come on, Loathsome. Live a little.” You moved to gather another clump of snow between your cupped hands, slowly picking up speed as you watched Leonard mirror your movements.
He towered over where you crouched on the ground, swiping a hand over a nearby windowsill and gathered the snow that resonated there. “You do realise what I do for a living, right?”
“Yeah, but you know that’s- Umf!” Leonard had already pelted a clumped up ball directly at your crown, knocking you to your backside as your feet slipped out from beneath you. “Hey, hitting above the shoulders is dirty play!”
“Not when you play with me, it isn't.” The man leant over you with a bent knee, a smug grin fastened to his lips. “You wanna try me again or can we go get a drink?”
You huffed as you stared down the hand he held out for you with slight hesitation, then clasped your hand in his, heaving you up from the ground with a swift pull. Whether it was the weather or the mere form of contact, he couldn't ignore the shiver that crawled up his arm as his hand engulfed yours.
Eyes drifting, Leonard caught sight of yours and he could have sworn there was a sparkle in there. What was up with that?
The man intended to release your hand from his hold, though his heart jumped when your grip only tightened, your thumb grazing over his own. His softened, curious stare hadn’t gone unnoticed by you as a smile graced your lips.
"Glad to see you've perked up. Is this...okay?"
In all honesty, he was more focused on the snow that clung to odd strands of your hair, glimmering under the bright lights that cascaded over you both. Took him a moment to realise your gesture towards your fingers that tempted to intertwine with his.
“Yeah...yeah, no, it’s okay. Let’s uh, get going.”
The drinks were eventually achieved. Now you were strolling your way back to the apartment, hand in hand, through the city’s streets. Despite the hot beverage that occupied your free hand, the drop in temperature during your departure urged you to tighten your arms to your sides. Leonard acted on the sight, a newfound warmth tinting the apple of his cheeks as he adjusted himself.
“Here.” He uttered, a surge of confidence washing over him as he shimmied your clasped hands into his toasty coat pocket. Doing so without looking your way, he hadn’t noticed how your face flushed in response. Though, instead of vocally protesting, you only gravitated closer to his side, basking in his warmth.
Out of sight, Leonard smiled.

Love Lockdown - Part 5
Back to December - Part 1
Pairing: Chris Evans x Reader
Summary: In the December prior to the pandemic, you spend Christmas with Chris in Boston, a first time meeting between you and his extended family. You struggle with implications of seriousness this milestone has on your relationship with Chris.
Warnings: Angst, Pandemic backdrop, Profanity, healthy dose of Fluff, sprinkle of Sexual suggestiveness
Notes: So much was really working against me getting this up for y’all lol, but nothing worth having comes easy, right? Anyways, tried some new stuff I learned in some articles I read, more showing, less telling. Allusions and metaphors. We’ll see how it comes across. Christmas in October anyone? Read the previous part here!
The ding DONG of the doorbell echoes so exaggeratedly, it had to have been your imagination. No, I’m really here now. With your blood pumping loudly in your ears, you stare straight ahead at the barrier to entry,  and seemingly to your happy future.
A Christmas-covered front door shouldn’t cause you this much stress, but here you were, feeling mocked by smiling snowmen and delicate, origami snowflakes.
You try to focus instead on one of the many thoughts flurrying your mind.
What if they hate me? Valid question, but sooo not the vibe right now. You go for another.
What if I hate THEM? Nice. None of these thoughts are stilling your rapidly beating heart.
“Ow! Loosen up the vice grip, will ya?”
“Oh,” you look down at where yours and Chris’ glove-clad hands are joined, releasing them almost instantly. “I’m sor—“
“It’s alright, babe,” Chris chuckles. As if you could muster a strength close enough to hurt this man. He’s sure not to let your hand get too far, taking it back into his and bringing it up to his rosy lips for a chaste kiss.
You wish you could feel it, the warmth of his lips on your knuckles, but that would mean braving the Boston blitz without a piece of your knit armour. You’re not sure you’re ready for that. You’re also not sure how he does it. He’s wearing significantly less layers than you, yet he’s perfectly content as if it’s a Summer’s day, while you are, quite literally, quaking in your boots.
He notices your shivering shoulders, knows it’s not just the cold getting to you. With his right hand in your left, and his left hand wrapped around a gift, he nudges you with his words.
“Hey,” he starts, but sees the opulent wreath on the door still has your attention. “Hey you,” he tries again. You finally look up at him. You lock your widened eyes with his ocean calm ones as he scans your face. Your brows could almost touch with how deeply furrowed you have them and your lips are fixed in a tight line.
“Typically it takes a lot to get my girl all nervous and whatnot,” he states, but you knew it was more of a question of what's up with you.
“Yeah, well… I’m not nervous, Chris.”
“Really? Cos the bruise on my hand would say otherwise,” he jokes.
You roll your eyes at him trying not to laugh. “Even if I was nervous, which I’m not, could you blame me? This is a lot. This is big. This... This is your family.” Your features soften and voice drops in volume. “I don’t wanna fuck it up.”
“Impossible.”
“You sure? Think I already did by taking this long,” you mumbled. You look away, unable to hold Chris' intense gaze anymore. Being in front of his childhood home, for the first time since you’ve started dating over 2 years ago, you can’t help but feel… guilty.
No use in taking the conversation there at this moment. Especially knowing that lately it led to some sort of shouting match. The ‘I can’t’s’ and ‘next time’s’ didn’t suffice anymore.
Chris only responds with a sigh as he rings the doorbell for the second time. He looks back over to you, a snowflake floating then landing on your lash. You’re unaware of how whimsical you look to him. How well you’re going to fit in with his family and friends.
He takes his thumb to brush the snowflake off and cup your cheek. Watching as you swallow thickly, Chris moves his thumb to your throat to massage away the lump you try to move on your own. You relax into his touch, and he flicks his eyes down to your gently smiling lips then back up to your eyes. You know what he’s silently asking. Placing your hand on his wrist was your silent answer. He leans in slowly, and you wish you could stay like this, just for a little while longer. But all good things...
“Uncle Chris!” a youthful voice exclaims as the door swings open. Chris swiftly removes his suggestive hand from your neck and himself from your personal space. He prays there’s some mistletoe hanging inside.
“Hey Kiddo!” Chris huffs out as he picks the child up, replacing her spot on the floor with the present in his hand. She goes to wrap her small arms around his neck as he asks her, “Did you grow since just last night?”
“No!” She giggles as he pinches her cheeks. “I missed you Uncle Chris! You weren’t here when we woke up,” his niece pouts. You look at Chris to see him with matching puppy dog eyes and poked out lip.
“Oh, Kiddo, I’m sorry. I--”
“It’s ok,” she cut him off, causing you to chuckle at her brashness, “I saved the gift from you and your special friend to open last!”
“Well, speaking of...” Chris pulls you in closer to him by your hand, “This is her! I went to get her from the airport,” he beams down at you. The little cutie in Chris’ arm has turned more shy when speaking to you as you exchange names and a quaint handshake.
In a not-so-quiet whisper, she tells Chris, “She’s really pretty. Good job,” with an added thumbs-up and shoulder pat. You can’t fight your giggle and the heat that rises to your face, and Chris can’t fight the laughter that erupts from himself.
Chris is joined in a chorus of laughter, the foyer now filled with Evans’ of all ages, tickled by one of their youngest and no doubt happy that Chris is home… and brought company. This is it… you think.
It’d been a long while since you’d ‘met the family’, having not made it that far with the relationships leading up to this one with Chris. You wonder if it’s like riding a bike, or if you should’ve read an article on how to during your last minute flight.
In the crowd of smiling Evans’, you spot Chris’ mom and brother. You’ve met them on numerous occasions, all in L.A., and know them pretty well. However, everyone else you knew from a picture, a story or would be meeting for the first time this afternoon. There was going to be a lot of meeting, greeting, questioning, explaining…
You steel yourself for the day ahead. Chris looks at you and gives you a reassuring smile and squeeze on your hand. You reciprocate, tension releasing only the slightest as you look at his sunny face, your reminder of why this must go well.
——————————————————————————
The first couple hours you were sure would be the hardest. It was a time of first impressions, and you only get one of those. Tasked with making the rounds to about 30 or so aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, childhood this and that, Chris wanted to make sure you met every. Single. Body. And as soon possible.
“That way, we get you comfortable faster!” He rejoiced. Chris’ excitement was always infectious so you try to let wash over and enthuse you.
You lost count of how many times you fake laughed at ‘Chris has finally brought you home! We were starting to think you weren’t real!’. But with Chris by your side, the worn out joke was just bearable. He found new ways to respond each time, no doubt to at least keep you entertained. ‘Who do you owe money, then?’ or ‘When you find a treasure, you try to keep it to yourself as long as possible *wink*’ or ‘She’s not even here… she’s a hallucination’ never failed to make you laugh or make your cheeks burn.
It’s actually really endearing to know that there was some anticipation for your arrival. Unbeknownst to you, Chris had been hyping you up to his family. Telling them your accomplishments and aspirations in your writing career, which apparently impressed them. He told them your hobbies and other passions that sparked conversations about their own, and prompted advice on your life trajectory.
All in all, breaking the ice was more delightful than you thought it would be, and hoped that by sticking by Chris’ side the rest of the day would go in that way. But the universe had other plans.
At one point, you get whisked away to the kitchen by Chris’ mom, Lisa, under the guise of needing help with some dishes for dinner. You quickly realize that it's a set-up of sorts, with most of the women of the Evans family gathered around the island putting finishing touches on their dishes and slyly sipping spiked eggnog. These are the people who you feel you have to impress.
Their chatter and laughter came to a halt as they eyed you cautiously crossing the kitchen to the spot Lisa designated you. It was only a matter of time before the interrogation began.
“So… we’ll cut straight to the chase: why is it we’re just now meeting you? You’ve been with our Chris how long now?”
“Vicky!” Lisa smacks her arm warningly. “Have you no filter? You’ll scare the poor girl off before dinner!”
Chris has told you about his infamous Aunt Vicky. “A true cream puff; soft and sweet… once you get past the tough outside,” you remember him telling you.
“It’s fine,” you start, not willing to cower from the inquiry, “Chris and I have been together 2-½ years— 3 in June. And we’ve been happily taking things slow.”
“Good on you for taking things slow. Most women would— and do— jump at the chance to lock down our Chris. But not you, you’re a woman with her own sense of self. We like that,” you’re affirmed with a wink.
Whew.
“You are as pretty as our kid spy said; thought she was exaggerating.”
“Um thank you…?”
“She’s pretty, but can she cook?”
“Carole!” Lisa warns another woman and apologizes to you with her eyes. Chris also told you about his aunt Carole, Vicky’s ‘side kick’. The two of them made for a dubious duo.
“Yeah, what’s Chris’ favorite dish of yours?” Aunt Vicky prodded.
“I can cook, but not that often for Chris,” you respond, to which you’re met with crickets and cock-headed looks. You add, “He’s out of town a lot, and when he is in town, he’s the one doing the showing and proving of why I should stay with him,” you joke (kind of), and to your relief, they find it funny.
“Oooo I like her!” Vicky and Carole say in unison, causing the kitchen of women to laugh. You really did try to keep your expectations low for this visit, not necessarily wanting to seek Chris’ extended family’s acceptance, but you can’t help the relief you feel in this moment.
The next couple hours pass of helping out with dinner dishes and dessert, giggling over glasses of cocktails and family stories. You’d narrowly avoided questions about marriage and babies, but that’s to be expected. For the first time today, you’re able to forget your worries and your boyfriend and actually enjoy yourself. Speaking of...
“Hey you,” Chris is waiting by your seat that’s next to his which he pulls out for you when you arrive at it. An early Christmas dinner is about to be served, and you and Chris are reunited at the table for the first time in hours. “Missed you,” he says with a kiss on your temple. “Can’t wait to hear about your day,” he adds. But there wasn’t much talking between you two throughout the meal, though.
No, the Evans’ family theatrics don’t allow for it. All of them talk with complete genuineness, laugh with their entire beings, opine with their whole chests, and you see where Chris gets it from. Turning to your boyfriend, you find him smiling and laughing along with the rest of the table, looking full of warmth and love. Completed by his family. Your heart gets a little heavier thinking about how he doesn’t have these moments as often as he’d like. In part by his job, yes, but a small part of you feels like you may also have something to do with that. A thought that pains you to wade in too long.
After dinner you try to help with the dishes, packing away leftovers and to-go plates. You don’t get too far, instead get shooed out of the kitchen by the elders, being told to ‘spend the rest of the evening with your man’. You oblige, realizing you barely talked to each other since earlier in the day. In your quick scan of the house, you couldn’t find him, so you shoot him a text.
Some of the kids and teenagers were gathered around some games in the den. Their antics and wittiness remind you of your nieces. They happily let you join in, and at one point, you acquired a little one on your lap as your game partner. The two of you bond over beating her cousins in these games as you school them in a few rounds of Uno, Connect Four, and Jenga.
Your phone buzzes in your pocket, and you smile as you check it.
“Oooooo is it from Uncle Chris?” she cheekily asks as you get up, setting her on your spot on the floor.
“They’re probably gonna go make out under the mistletoe,” one of the older kids teased. The room of adolescents erupt into a fit of giggles and chorus of ‘ews’
“Are you two gonna get married?” the little cutie randomly asks you. “I heard my Grandma and Aunts talking about it!”
“Oh, wow, um… I gotta, I’ll see you all later.” With that you dash out of the room, as symphony ‘K-I-S-S-I-N-G…’ fading behind you.
——————————————————————————
The sky was shades of baby blues, pinks, purples and oranges. It’s a beautiful backdrop to the snow and ice kissed tree branches and lawns. The road had been freshly salted and freed of winter obstacles making it easier to stroll along as you and Chris often did after a meal.
It’s even more beautiful than he said, you think to yourself. For a second you wonder why you were ever hesitant to come here. There was no real reason, yet you used a million excuses. But this time around, you finally ran out.
Not that you weren’t tired of your fear. That was it. The real reason… was fear.
You look down at your boots, the ones you dust off just one week a year now. Striding beside them are a larger, more expensive pair; they too only see the snow on rare occasions. Your eyes follow up the long legs they belong to, taking in the nice slacks and chunky cable knit sweater under a heavy, well-made piece of outerwear. Your eyes finally land on the face of the man in the fine threads.
Looking at Chris right now, you’ve never seen him fit in so perfectly somewhere. But why wouldn’t he on the roads he cut his teeth on. He could make you forget every fear and every doubt you’ve ever had. Hell, he could make you forget your name on a good day. And on those days, you didn’t know what to do with all of that, what to make of it. But it’s the most wonderful time of the year, so
“Come here,” you say just above a whisper, tugging on Chris’ hand causing him to turn to you. You bring your hands to his broad shoulders, smoothing out the invisible wrinkles there. You languidly drag your right hand over to his chest as you notice a red stain on the light colored knit. “My love…” you humoredly drag out as you tap on the food stain.
“I know, I know. My mother already beat you to the scolding,” he chuckles.
“You’d think by this age you’d have learned to be more careful.”
“Hmm, now what fun would that be…” his sultry tone didn’t go unnoticed by you. Your eyes on his tailored, dinner party clothes, hoping to find a relief for your emotions somewhere between the stitches. You never know where to begin with your feelings. Surely it would be to start with the easy stuff, but it all seems hard.
You rub your hands on his chest, not quite meeting his eyes. “What’s up? Whatcha thinking about?” Chris asks with a lopsided grin, resting his hands on either side of your waist. You smile at him nervously. Before you could say anything, there’s a gust of sharp, cold wind. You clutch on to Chris’ sweater, burying your face in his chest seeking refuge and warmth.
“M’thinking about how you got me out in this damn cold! You know my southern bones can’t take it,” your whines muffled by his sweater. He chuckles at your antics.
Chris slowly drags his large palms up from your waist, and this just ensures that there are goosebumps on your skin under your layers if the wind hasn't done so already. He rests one hand on your shoulder pulling you apart just enough for you to look into his hazy blue eyes. His other hand continues it’s trek until it’s rested on the side of your neck, his thumb stroking your jaw. “I know of a way to get you warm…”
“Was this part of your plan?”
“Mmmm… maybe…” Chris leans in close, surely to kiss you, but you have other plans.
“How’s it feel to be back home?” you inquired with faux aloofness, slipping out of his hold and continuing your walk towards his mother’s home.
Chris hesitates for a second, wondering if you really just swerved a kiss from him. He clears his throat, “Uh… yeah it’s great! There’s nothing like family, I know you can agree to that. Even if they are loud… and crazy,” to which you both chuckle. “So…” he starts as he wraps his arms around your middle causing you both to waddle up the front lawn. “How do you feel? Not so bad, was it?”
“No! Far from it! I really, really love your family Chris,” you say as you crane your neck to look at him briefly.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. Although, I strongly disagree with some of their choices in best music of all time, but I’ll learn to get over that. I got over it with you,”
Chris spins you around in his arms, hands firmly on your waist. “I don’t care what you say; Joel is the best music Billy of ALL TIME!”
“Yeah, ok.” you retort with an eye roll to his amusement.
“I’m glad you had a good time babe. They’ve been hounding me to meet you for a while now. I’m happy we made it happen.”
The words are right there on your lips. I’m sorry it took so long. I’m sorry I acted silly. I’m sorry I was scared to take the next step. But what if I’m not ready? What if we get it wrong? Your throat is dry, as it often is when it’s time to bare a little of your soul. At least Chris always has something to say.
“I can’t wait for you to see me this nervous when I meet your family…” You don’t know if that makes you feel better or worse. Chris looks into your eyes expectantly, lovingly. His features are soft and tender, and you think it’s the most beautiful sight on a man, on this man. Your man.
Chris looks at your lips then at your eyes. There goes that silent question again. You’ve never been one to give Chris what he wants when he wants it. He’ll never admit, but it’s one of the things he loves most about you. So, in true you-fashion, you make a run for it.
He’s baffled, but doesn’t waste much time in playing into your little game. You’re laughing hysterically as you look over your shoulder to see him bounding after you on the front lawn. You high tail it around the side of his childhood home, kind of hoping he catches you. Not even you, as stubborn as you are, would want to be running forever.
Chris walks into the backyard cautiously, but not cautiously enough as he’s met with a snowball in the temple. And your maniacal laughter.
“Oh, you’re in for it now!” Chris sneers as he scoops up the most perfectly compacted snowball.
“Oh shit!” You slowly make for the backdoor, walking up the deck stairs backwards, hands up in surrender “C’mon babe, you don’t have to do this,” you plead.
“Yes. Yes, I do. Cos all I wanted was an innocent, sweet kiss.”
“I’ll give you a kiss! Just put the snowball down.”
“It’s too late, sweetheart.” The look in his eyes is sending butterflies straight to your heat. As much as you wouldn’t mind ‘losing’ this game, there’s too much at stake.
“Think of my hair!” You whine to appeal to his better nature. That gave Chris pause, but only for a moment.
“It’s in braids; you’ll be ok.” When Chris takes a step towards you, you take a step back, but instead of eating snow as you anticipate, you slip on a patch of ice and fall flat on your ass.
Chris is quick to race over to your side. “Babe! Are you ok?” he’s slightly panicked as he lifts your torso in his arms, checking your eyes for consciousness.
“Got the wind knocked out of me, but I’m fine, yeah,” you say through a dry laugh.
“Oh, thank god.” He says with a sigh of relief and a wide smile. You smile back at him as he strokes your cheek and says, “Now I won’t feel bad about this.”
“Wha—“ You see white as your face freezes over. Chris is dying of laughter as you sputter the snowball out of your mouth.
“Ha ha ha. Keep laughing... you won’t get that kiss you’re wanting so bad.” He immediately stops laughing, deflates, and pouts, causing you to giggle. “Oh my goodness! Is it that serious?” you teased him a little further. Chris was done playing, though. He stood up and folded his thick arms over his chest to show you he was serious.
You stood up too, and began to tap and poke at his shoulders, chest and stomach. Chris wouldn’t look at you, trying his best to stand firm and not smile. “Look up, dummy!” you say eventually. He acts as if he’s doing you a favor, but can’t hide his giddiness at the sight on the ceiling.
A leafy green plant, with a cluster of red inedible berries, secured with a red ribbon.
You take his face into your hands, lightly grazing your fingers over Chris’ full, trimmed beard. The world is out of focus as you and Chris are now eye to eye. Neither of you can hide your eagerness. You rub your thumb over his plump bottom lip and wonder why you would ever deny yourself this man.
Pulling him into you, the gap is closed between your mouths. The kiss is gentle, shy even, after first. It dawns on you that you’d only shared a quick peck at the airport, and before then, had gone a couple weeks missing each other’s touch.
The neediness and desire within you is heightened at the thought. You wrap your arms around his neck pulling him closer. You start to get lost in him, in his warm taste and touch. You feel the yearning in Chris too. He wraps his arms around your waist, hugging you tightly to himself. His hands start to travel to places you desperately want them to be, but he catches himself, remembering where you are.
“Let’s go say our goodbyes,” he says through an out-of-breath smirk. You bite your bottom lip and reply with a quick nod of your head.
The pair of you head inside to make your last rounds for the evening. Chris keeps it pretty brief with everyone, the both of you promising to see them again sometime soon in the new year. Early Spring seems to work for most everyone; the kids will be on spring break, Chris will be home before jetting off for a press tour, and you’ll have settled in to your new writing job, that isn’t exactly your dream gig, but a step in… a direction.
As you got into Chris’ car to head for his Boston home, waving to his family as you backed out the driveway, none of you could predict or prepare yourselves for the very different, sordid world that waits in the months ahead. How drastically it would change on grand and small scales.
You look adoringly at Chris from your spot in the passenger seat, unaware the beginning of your relationship’s treacherous slope was just a few days away. Had you known, you wouldn’t have left that kiss so soon, would’ve cherished his heated embrace a little more later tonight.
But it’s already been written.

So it’s been awhile since I posted on here. Honestly, I totally forgot I created this blog. It’s been a long journey. I know others aren’t fortunate and it takes even longer but after about 5/6 months of trying, we finally got a positive pregnancy test on 12/07/2021 (my son’s birthday). After finding out, I ugly cried and FaceTimed my cousin- Stephanie, to tell her the great news! I didn’t want to text or call my friend because I wanted to surprise her and make it special so that day I went on to Amazon and got my friend and her daughter shirts (Mama-To-Be & Promoted to Big Sister). I was so excited for her and wanted to tell her but I had to wait. I knew I was seeing her on 12/10/2021 for my son’s 5th birthday party and like I said, I wanted to surprise her.
Tumblr media
On 12/10/2021, we all gathered at Chuck E Cheese for my son’s birthday party. The whole time I was so antsy since I knew my friend and her daughter would be attending and today was the day I got to share the great news. During the party my best-friend, Kat- asked if I wanted a drink (they sell alcohol) and of course, I had to reminder her I’M PREGNANT! (I told her about the pregnancy so she could video my friends reaction). By the time the party was settling down- we sang Happy Birthday, did cake, etc. it was finally time to tell her. We started by taking the presents my son received out to my car where I pulled out two Christmas bags and labeled them as Christmas gifts for my friend and her daughter. As my friend opened hers, I helped her daughter open her gift. My friends face was in complete and utter shock! She cried, I cried, Kat cried- it was a crying moment! She called her dad and called her mom and the first thing her mom said was, “Okay, what can we do for her?? What does she need??” Right then and there I could see the support and love her family had for my husband, myself & their new grand-baby.
Tumblr media
Ever since i felt the need to take that pregnancy test on 12/07, I knew something was up. I was emotional- Bob Seger made me cry constantly and my nausea was on 10 in the mornings. Around 6 weeks, I started bleeding. I freaked out because this time I knew I was pregnant and bleeding couldn’t mean anything good, at least so I thought. The last time I was pregnant was in 2018- I didn’t know at the time I was pregnant, I just thought something weird was going on with my body and making me bleed uncontrollably for over a month (my periods are very weird so it didn’t make me worry). I was under a lot of stress at the job I had at the time and thought it would pass. My husband urged me to go to the doctor to get checked because he grew concerned. We went and the doctor confirmed I was pregnant. I cried because I knew I didn’t want anymore kids and I felt bad for the kids I did have because I didn’t want to be like my parents. Having so many kids and struggling. It wasn’t fair to them but abortion isn’t something I believe I could do.. EVER! The doctor continued doing bloodwork to see what was going on and eventually noticed my HCG levels were dropping therefore, I was having a miscarriage. Once the miscarriage was over- I had this incredible shame of guilt.. I felt horrible for sitting in that office, crying to my husband about not wanting that baby.. I miss what could have been but I’m so grateful for what I have even more. SOOO, once I started bleeding this pregnancy I knew I HAD to call the doctor. I made sure to inform my friend on what was going on and we agreed to call the doctor. Women’s Care of Florida really is an amazing OBGYN, they got me in the same day and told me they were squeezing me in no matter how busy they were. I called around 8a and they asked me to come in at 9a. I had my kids so I dropped them off at my in-laws and headed to the doctors. I got there and they got me in the back to check my weight (125lbs, about 20 lbs lighter than I usually am) and vitals and I waited in the room for the nurse to come ask all her questions before the doctor came in. Once we all talked she told me we would do blood work and also a sonogram to make sure everything was okay. I waited and they called me back for the sonogram. The baby was SO tiny, I’m talking about 3 cms long and I got to see the heartbeat! This tiny little thing had a huge heart beat. You could see it, it was crazy. I never saw my babies that tiny (each time I was pregnant I didn’t find out until the middle/end of my 2nd trimester- I had no symptoms at all). The sonogram tech said everything looked fine but I would wait to do the blood work to make sure everything was 100%. I got my blood taken but they still couldn’t explain the bleeding. They told me to just keep an eye on it & to come back if it starts to get worse.
Tumblr media
It has since subsidized and as I’m writing this I’m currently 9 weeks and 5 days pregnant with A GIRL! We did one of those at-home blood tests and shipped it off to find out the gender. I received the email on 01/03/2022 & as much as I wanted my friend to have a boy, she’s so excited for the matching outfits the baby and her big sister get to wear. My belly is starting to grow and I look more pregnant and less like a beer gut (I don’t even drink beer). My friend and her daughter are still over the moon excited and her family has been so kind and loving to us. My due date is August 13 2022 and I’m hoping I can do an at-home birth! How cool with that be!? I always wanted to try one of those.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I doubt anyone reads this but I hope one day when you grow up Tumblr would still be around, relevant and you can read the journey your mom and I took so that you’d be in this world 💕

This is a terrible, terrible idea I keep repeating myself.
If I’d shown a little more steadiness with my sister I wouldn’t be in this situation. I knew she was nervous about presenting her girlfriend to the family, specially to our father. And because she is extra as hell, she couldn’t choose another date that wasn’t on Christmas Eve. For weeks now she’d been texting me, grumbling about how was she going to be able to pull it off. I told her to relax and just go with it.
What I didn’t expect though, was for Vivi to arrive out of nowhere to the school where I work, talking nonsense about me bringing a fake date to dinner with hopes of taking the attention away from her.
After spending 15 minutes trying to convince her it is not necessary for me to do that, her insistence is such I end up babbling how bad that idea is since I already have a boyfriend, and fake dating someone else would certainly create problems.
Big mistake.
Looking at me with something like betrayal in her eyes, now she starts questioning me about that boyfriend who I’d never talked about before. I bite my lip. When it comes to personal stuff I prefer to keep it private, even with my own family. I have my reasons.
And just because luck is not on my side today, in the middle of her inquiries I hear a faint “Hey, babe!” behind me. I groan. Of course. Of course he had to arrive in that moment.
We both turn to look at him. Cardan approaches us wearing that mischievous grin reserved only for me, so different from the polite smile he uses with his students. His hair is tied up in a bun as he also wears it for work, few curls escaping it in the most adorable way.
With a pang of panic, I notice Vivi noticing how dumbfounded I’m looking at him. Her eyes light up in a way that I know means nothing good. I frown at her.
“I was looking for you on the cafeteria, one of your students told me you were here.” He pauses. “I- didn’t notice you were busy though, sorry.”
“Not at all!” Vivi says with exaggerated enthusiasm. “I’m Jude’s older sister, Vivi! You must be her lovely boyfriend.”
“Oh, yeah I am. Nice to meet you!” If I didn’t know him so well I wouldn’t notice the slight blush on his cheeks or the way he looks at me in contained alarm.
It’s too late by the time I put the pieces together. When I realize what is about to happen, my sister is already handing Cardan a rolled piece of paper.
“I came to make sure Jude invites you to our family Christmas dinner! She’s so absentminded sometimes isn’t she?”
I’m going to kill her. Slowly.
Horrified, I stand there and see Cardan take the invitation, grinning. His polite, charming smile.
“I wouldn’t miss it,” He says. “Thank you so much Vivi.”
My sister turns to me and whatever look it’s on my face makes her hesitate. Although, not enough. She claps her hands once and makes an excited squeal. “Well I must go now! But I’m so excited you’re coming to join us Cardan, see you there. Ciao!”
With that she turns and leaves.
-
So here we are. My boyfriend driving by my side, as we are about to arrive to my parent’s house.
My knee bounces without control as I twist my scarf between my fingers. At any moment now, I’m sure my heart is going to bolt out of my chest.
“Jude dear, is everything ok?” He asks. I notice I’ve been quiet almost the entire road.
I turn to look at him. He looks dashing, even if it’s not a strictly formal dinner he always finds a way to dress as it was. Black ensemble and green scarf that stands out his pale skin, though his nose and cheeks have a touch of color because of the cold weather.
“Yeah it’s just... My family is a little,” I pause. “I don’t know how to explain it.”
We are not the type of family that introduces romantic partners, ever. My twin sister tried to do it some years ago with a terrible and embarrassing outcome. At some point in the middle of breakfast, she’d asked her daddy to pass the salt. Both our father and Locke moved to grab it at the same time. What came next, well… if that Locke dude had restrained himself to make a sarcastic and really tacky comment about it, maybe he would still be welcome in the house. Alas, he is not.
Ever since that day, every time someone brings a guest to the house my father gets in a mood that is pretty uncomfortable for everyone. Sooner or later he makes everyone run.  Not exactly the first impression I want Cardan to have.
We’ve been together for some time now, about eleven months. But the topic of introducing our families has never been on the table so far. I know he comes from a problematic family even if he doesn’t talk much about them. As for me, I have to admit I’ve grown so attached to him that I’m terrified of Madoc, or any other of my relatives, scaring him away.
He takes my hand in his, warming it, and smiles softly. “It’ll be ok. Breathe.”
I sigh, hoping he’s right and grip his hand tighter.
The inside of the house looks as if Santa’s bag had exploded. There are lights and ornaments everywhere. Even the tree is bigger than previous years. A delicious smell of food fills the place. As I stare in awe I hear voices coming from the living room.
“Jude? Is that you?” Hurried steps sound in the wooden floor and a few seconds later my little brother appears wearing an absurd red and white onesie. He crashes against me and I laugh, hugging him back.
“You do realize that’s for little kids don’t you?” I ask. “It looks good on you, though.”
Oak scoffs and pulls back. “Well of course it does. I look good on everything.”
Cardan chuckles next to me and for the first time my brother notices him. His eyes and mouth open widely, blinking at him and then turning back at me. Once. Twice.
“Jude,” He murmurs. It cracks me up how shy he can get around new people. “Who’s this?”
Ah, here we go. I take a deep breath and grab Cardan’s hand again.
“Don’t be rude,” I warn him. “His name is Cardan. Cardan, this is my brother Oak.”
Cardan greets him, extending his hand to him. Oak shakes it, visibly puzzled. “And Cardan is…?”
“My boyfriend.”
A slow, mocking and devilish smile spreads on his face. I swear to god that kid was taken out from the movie Cheaper by the Dozen. All the shyness is suddenly gone.
“You and Vivi are really trying to give dad a heart attack today aren’t you?” He turns to Cardan and adopts a serious expression I almost believe. “Please tell me Jude doesn’t call you daddy.”
“OAK!” I hiss. I look at Cardan and he gazes back with amusement, I notice he’s biting back a laugh.
“WHAT? I need to know earlier if I need to take my phone out, last time I didn’t have time to record when dad…” He motions with his hand. Yeah, I remember.
“She doesn’t.” Cardan affirms. Mimicking my brother’s mischievous smile he asks. “Is there a story there I need to know?”
Oak hesitates, even though I’m sure he’s dying to spill it out.
“Taryn would kill you.” I remind him.
“She’s not coming. For what I’ve heard, either it’s Locke’s turn to visit his family or something about dad running him under the car if he dared appearing. I’m not sure.”
Great.
“What if I beat you at Mario Kart?” Cardan asks, pointing at the console resting next to the tv.
Oak squints at him. “Are you challenging me?”
“It’s not a challenge when I know I’m going to win.”
Turning to me, my brother grins. “I like him.”
-
I know this is the first time I’ve brought someone home, but still I don’t know if I should be offended at my parent’s surprised faces. Oak had to tell my mother twice that Cardan is my boyfriend before she nods in understanding.
On his side, Cardan is being the full gentleman. To be fair he always is, but I notice the extra effort he’s doing today. It warms my heart. The only sign of nervousness I notice in him are occasional deep breaths he takes when he thinks no one is watching.
We get to meet Heather too, who is adorable and I honestly don’t know how on earth she fell in love with my lunatic sister. In a matter of minutes Cardan is already friends with her which helps with her evident tension. Vivi seems to relax as well.
Christmas music plays on the background as we eat. This is probably my favorite part of the evening. Don’t get me wrong, I love gatherings with my family but food calls me on a spiritual level. Cardan knows it too, chuckling at my excitement while I’m serving us mashed potatoes.
“So, Cardan.” My father starts, serving the wine. My heart leaps in my chest, oh no. “You met my daughter at work?”
He nods. “Yes sir, I arrived there about two years ago. I teach preschool and first grade.” Winking at me he adds. “Jude used to hate me.”
Madoc turns to me, frowning. “What happened?” I roll my eyes, classical worried dad.
I take a long drink from my wine and shrug. “Nothing, he stole the ‘best teacher award’ from me, on his first six months. I’m pretty sure he bribed the students that year.”
To my surprise, my father barks a laugh. We all stare at him wide-eyed.
“Keep repeating that to yourself, love.” Cardan teases. “It was a clean triumph.”
“Youve always been competitive Jude, that’s no secret.”  Vivi adds. “It’s nice to finally meet someone who can pull up with that.”
I turn to glare at her. You and I are going to talk later. She sticks out her tongue at me.
“Do you guys have sex?”
“Oak!” My mother shouts as my father and I both choke on our wine.
-
When Cardan parks the car outside my apartment it’s already past midnight.
Surprisingly, this turned out to be one of the best Christmas celebrations I’ve ever had. My boyfriend somehow managed to not only avoid any uncomfortable moments around my family but also to wrap them up around his little finger. With jokes and tales about us the night had passed incredibly fast.
Toasts were made, hugs and gifts were given. By the end, we were sprawled on the floor wearing silly sweaters and watching the merciless Mario Kart match between Oak and Cardan. It ended up in a tie. Rematch was already set for New Year’s Eve.
It was everything I never thought it would be.
“Well, did Vivi’s plan work?” Cardan asks.
I turn to find him already looking at me with a knowing smile on his face. Still, it doesn’t reach his eyes.
“C’me on, you weren’t really planning on inviting me to your family’s dinner. Something was surely going on the day she gave me the invitation.”
Sighing I whisper. “I’m sorry.”
He knows me too well, more than I even know myself sometimes.
“Don’t be, it’s not a topic we usually discuss.” He shrugs, reaching my hand with his. His thumb makes slow circles on my skin “Still, I should’ve asked if it was ok with you. Forgive me if I crossed a line.”
“You didn’t. I just wasn’t planning for you to meet my family yet.” I regret those words the moment they leave my mouth, knowing how they sound. Cardan doesn’t let go of my hand but he stops his ministrations. “Wait, that wasn’t…”
“Jude, it’s ok.” He says, turning to the windshield. I know him well enough too, and notice the touch of sadness behind his words.
“No it’s not. Please listen.” I insist, my heart is beating fast now. That look on his eyes is exactly what I tried to avoid the whole night. “The reason why I wasn’t thinking to introduce you to my family is that they’re ridiculously hard and annoying with every new person that visits. And this is the first time I took someone home and…I don’t know, I-”
“You thought I’d leave?” He turns his gaze back to me, warily.
At the beginning of the day I did. But I don’t find the words to admit it, so I don’t answer.
After a moment of silence he asks “Do you want to know why I agreed to go?”
I swallow and nod. Cardan inhales deeply..
“We’ve been together for some time now. And you know, you must know, I’m not playing around Jude.” I start to say something but he silences me with a soft finger against my lips.  “I love you. If I agreed to whatever scheme your sister had in mind it was because I wanted to show you that I’m not going away. No matter what.”
“My family…”
“They love you. It’s only natural for them to ask what my intentions are… and maybe tease us about it too. I’m willing to admit your dad is a little scary. But not enough to make me run away.” He winks, cupping my face.“There is nothing on earth that would make me want to run away, Jude. That’s how much I love you.”
Feeling my eyes sting I blink. “I love you too.”
We’ve said those words before. But I find that they acquire a different meaning, somehow deeper. My chest is suddenly too small to hold everything I feel for this man. He’s not going anywhere. He loves me. I’m grinning like an idiot and I’m proud of it.
I lean to rest my forehead against his. “Since it’s our first Christmas together… and you already met my family.” His smile widens at that. “Would you like to stay the night?”
“There’s nothing I would like more.” Cardan angles his head to give me a kiss that I accept gladly, coiling my arms around his neck.  “I usually spend Christmas alone, I guess it’s time for new traditions.”
We remain entwined for some minutes, it fastly turns into something hotter and desperate. I’m already straddling his hips when I pull back a few inches. I bet my lips are as swollen as his. He is looking at me with hunger… and love.
“How about a tradition in which we spend Christmas night undressed and watching some crappy Netflix movies?” I suggest.
My toes curl when he leans to bite my lobe and purrs. “Yes, please.”
