Digimon's Characters

Unlike the main protagonists of Pokémon, who often do not age, grow, or develop consistently, the main characters within Digimon are followed from early adolescent to adulthood. We see them as children grapple with loneliness, what friendship means, and how to survive without family. As teenagers we watch them grow into mentors and keep their friendships strong across the barrier of distance and changing interests. In their adulthood the audience watches them let go of their childhood, go to college, and struggle to find a purpose after their digimon have left them. To find out why they exist outside of the concept of being 'digi-destined' children, to reach their full potential as friends and members of society while finding fulfillment in their memories. Moving from their loss to their future.

Digimon: Adventure also acts as incredible representation for a family beyond the trope of found family. Yes, in the end the digi-destined do forge a familial bond, but we also see their lives at home.

Tai and Kari are raised by their mother, their father no longer in the picture. We see Tai help his mother raise Kari, but never does the audience think Tai is burdened by this or that their mother is unhappy. She's extremely kind and hardworking, Tai and Kari love their mother dearly and never seem to outwardly miss their father.

Izzy is adopted and his family worries that they don't fulfill the role his paternal family could. Izzy never questions the bond he has with his parents, to him they're his true family. Rather than him acting out or questioning them, the show has the parents worry that they aren't enough for the child they love.

Mimi is often home alone, her parents work abroad and leave her alone. Despite this she is bubbly, warm, and extroverted. Joe and Sora are both under a lot of pressure from their families to fit into a mold, but when they come into their own roles their families respect them and don't force them to conform.

T.K. and Matt are siblings, but their parents are divorced. They're only half-siblings and they live in separate households for the most part, however this doesn't stop Matt for taking care of T.K.. He doesn't hold resentment towards his younger sibling, or see his parents as traitors or abandoning him, he still loves his parents. T.K. looks up to Matt and tries to emulate him, he tries to be brave so Matt doesn't worry about him because he feels like a burden due to the state of their family.

It's important, too, to note that the digimon themselves are not seen as pets. They're sentient and talkative beings that also develop as characters. They're equals.

Sora and Koushiro half siblings angsty au (same dad different mom) hcs ? A friend of mine is making a story about it and i wonder what others can make with this concept.

Sora and Izzy Half-Siblings

Same dad, different moms, huh? That kinda works as a mashup of their canon backgrounds, actually--

So let's say that Izzy's parents still passed away from that--I wanna say car accident--accident and his aunt and uncle raised him (THAT WAS THE CANON BACKSTORY, RIGHT? I FEEL LIKE I'M GETTING THIS WRONG) so he's aware of the birth parents' existence

Now let's say Sora still lives with her mom but her father is completely out of the picture, which honestly fits anyway since it's not like he appeared more than the one time out of sheer coincidence

Perfection (sad, but perfect)

Something tells me Sora's mom doesn't really like talking about it (since Izzy is a year younger or something, it's obvious there was either divorce or a just never-married thing going on there), so Sora goes to Izzy for help to find out more about her dad

It's kind of the human condition, isn't it? We like to know where we came from. (Not everybody has that, but I've seen it a lot in media over the years.)

So Izzy does his master hacker thing, but the name he finds that Sora gives him (she may have done some snooping in her mom's things) looks familiar

He goes to his mom (slash foster mom, but she is MOM and I love her) and asks him, and she just gets this look on her face

Dad walks in, and he has to admit to Izzy that that's Izzy's biological father

Izzy connects the dots immediately and nearly faints

SPRINTS back to Sora and is like "WE. ARE. HALF-SIBLINGS."

"What?"

"YOUR DAD IS MY DAD."

"OH MY GOD."

They just kinda stare at each other. And then they have this really awkward sibling hug that Dipper and Mabel would be proud of

I'm not sure if anything about their relationship really changes outwardly, but they sort of have this silent understanding after that

Matt and T.K. have their thing, Tai and Kari have their thing, and now Sora and Izzy have their thing

The others wish they had this swag---

Also, I looked it up, Izzy's dad was a distant relative of his biological father. I just kinda assumed aunt and uncle since they're usually the first ones in these types of stories to be asked to raise the baby.

What if.... Davis Motomiya is born a girl by the name Diana and she has a big secret that she kept from her friends she’s a ..... Demigod the Daughter of Apollo.

          Diana left Odaiba after the defeat of MaloMyotismon for good since she has been drifting away from the rest of the Digidestin even from her mortal bestfriend Ken Ichijouji, since he has been spending more time to his new girlfriend Yolie Inue. Which I didn’t mine, but it feels like were not even friends anymore.

While I was in the park with Veemon an old clock sales man aproach me and given me a chance to be a different type of Digidestin and I accepted his proposal to become different time of Digidestin, I become a General every since then.

                 When I arrived at Digi-Quortz which are similar to the Digital world except the whole place look like a digital version of the human world.

I am the General of Miracles and after all the Generals defeated Quortzmon we return to the real world, but we all stayed in contact with one another even if we aren’t in the same town or country beside some of the Digimon Generals are Demigod like myself for example:

So after I return home their seem to be no time past which I didn’t mind beside All the Child Digidestin wouldn’t miss me one bit since their all to busy with their own life so they wouldn’t even know that I’m leaving Odaiba and moving to New York.

Diana being a daughter of Apollo, she’s great music and healing like all her brothers and sister.

              5 months later...

 The Digidestin finally notice the absent of Diana’s prescent so they went ro visit her at her house.

And Jun open the apartment door.

“ Oh... it’s you guys, what do you want? ” Jun ask.

“ Can we see Diana ” Kari said.

“ She’s not here ” Jun replied.

“ When is she going to get home? ” Ken ask.

“ We don’t know what ? ” Cody ask.

“ My sister moved ” Jun replied.

“ Moved?....Where did she moved away? ” T.K. ask shock.

“ But, where still pick up the signal of her D-3 in Japan ” T.K. said.

“ It’s quite possible that when she left Japan. Diana left her D-3 behind ” Izzy said.

That summer they all went to Japan to meet the rest of the Generals by thrn Piper began dating Jeremy Tsurgi, after getting over her feelings for Jason. Piper Mclean, Leo Valdez and Jason Grace get along eith the rest of the General.

       5 years later...

All the Generals are now 21 years old and finally graduate College even those who are demigods. Jason Grace recently propose to Diana they been together for 6 years now.

 And they had a huge wedding at the Plazza in New York that their mortal friends could also attend and the Gods  made sure that no monster can ruwin their wedding and Queen Hera/Juno also gaved them her blessing which they thank her for.

           A month after tgey gotten married they find out from Apollo that Diana is already pregnant with twin Daughters their names are Serenity and Minako Grace  born in June 30, 1978.

               5 years later....

My mortal sister Jun Motomiya invited my family to her wedding to Jim Kido the older brother of Joe Kido the child of Reliability and I haven’t  seen the child Digidestins for almost 13 years since I left Odaiba. I know that Jun would most likely invited them all their yo her wedding since she’s marrying Joe Kido’s older brother.

Mikey and Angie are also invited since their son Duo Kudo is the Ring Bearer like my youngest daughter Minako is the flower girl for the wedding.

We flyto Japan using my family’s private Jet and Jeremy and his wife Piper tag along since it’s also the Digidestin Genersls Reunion so Leo and his wife Airu Suzaki

Would be taging along with their 4 years old son Xavier Valdez.

   The wedding Ceremony are finish and now all the guest are taking a seat to eat.

“ I saw Diana again with her family, and it turn out the flower girl Minako Grace is Diana’s youngest daughter ” Joe said.

“ What? ” Tai ask shock.

“ Dosen’t that mean she’s married ” Yolie said.

“ From the look of things, yeah ” Joe said.

“ She has longer hair now and her once pure brown hair turn to golden brown hair ” Joe said.

“ Really she use to have a boyish haircut" T.K. said

“Yeah” she right their point at Diana.

“ I suppost 13 years can change a person’s view on things ” Sora said.

“ I guess your right ” Yolie said.

“ So what dose Diana do now a days? ” Kari ask.

“ To tell you guys the truth I still don’t know that part ” Joe said.

After the wedding the Kudo and the Grace family left and went to Shinohome to meet up with the rest of the Generals.

“ Hey, Jun what is Diana doing now a days? ” Tai ask.

“ Well Diana is a famous Actress and Singer, but she also own a Resturant Businesss that she runs. She also went to Medical School like her brothers and Sister, but she never went to be a Doctor but she dose have a degree for it. And her husband Jason Grace is an Actor and he also own Grace Airline. ” Jun said.

“ What?! Diana’s an actress and Singer ” Yolie ask shock.

“ That’s right. Well this is wehere we leave you ” Jun said before She and Jim left for their Honeymoon.

  Nene Amano end up marrying Christopher Aonuma. And she work as a Zologu expert while Christopher becoje a Marshal Art Instructor and they have one daughter together Lita Aonuma who’s the same age as Minako and Serenity.

Mikey Kudo become a Gym Teacher in New York city and Angie open up her own resturant that could rivals that of Diana’s. Mikey and Angie has two children and they are Heero and Duo Kudo.

8 years later...

Serenity & Minako  Grace, Lita Aonuma, Heero and Duo Kudo are now 14 years old and their family are currently living in Japan and all their memories of their pass life has return to them a month ago, so they have discretly collected all the 7 Rainbow crystal before making it one and Serenity hiding it from her body.

Minako Grace was the reborn princesss of Venus and she was also the captain of Inner Senshi of Princess Serenity. She was Sailor Venus the Senshi of Love and Beauty. She already at Princess Sailor Venus while she is in active that dosen’t mean they don’t trainn well those who remember their true memory of their past life not the one Queen Serenity want them to believe.

Lita Anomua is the reborn eelf of the princess of Jupiter, she also happen to be the secound in command of the inner sendhi of Princess Serenity. She is the senshi of Bravery and Protection, Sailor Jupitor, and Like Minako she has trained hard to reach the level of princess Sailor Jupitor.

 Duo Kudo was the reborn self of the Prince of Saturn and the half-brother of Princess Serenity and Sailor Saturn, he is the secound in command of the Planetry Knights.

Then their’s Heeero Kudo was the reborn self of the Prince of Jupitor and the half-brother of princess Lita of Jupitor and the capatain of the Planetry Knights.

Then Finally their is Serenity Grace vthe reborn self of Princess Serenity of the Moon. She is tge crown princess of the white moon kingdom and the true misstress of the Sliver Crystal which she currently hiding inside her own body. While her mother  Queen Serenity didn’t want her to be train as a senshi dhe sneak out to train as one without her mother knowladge. She also reach the same level as Venus and Jupitor, she now Princess Sailor Moon.

 I have cut  any bond that I may have with PrincevEndymione XII since they may have been enganged to marry one another in their first life, but they did not love one another their Engangement was only to stop War from breaking out between the Moon and Earth Kingdoms, hut instead their Engagement cause the destruction of the moon Kingdom. Because of Endymione’s ex-girlfriend who he had to leave because if their Engangement. Beryl who is a Noble daughter from Earth, broke the Ancient Seal that contain one of the most Evilnbeing on Earth Metalicana which  my mother Queen Serenity sealed away long ago. And now  Metalicana possesed Beryl and she had rallied an Army and attack the Moon kingdom the lead to it’s destruction.

   At that time I was not awared that my younger half sister Princess Selena of the moon.

Have been visiting Earth many times that she end up meeting Endymione and fall in love with him even though she know the moment she heard his name that he is the Fiancee of her older half sister, but she didn’t care, but her rendezvous stop after the annocment of Serenity and Endymione’s wedding. For our mother would have her head if she didn’t.

I’m not awared who Selena’s father is in our last life and I’m 100% sure that she was not the daughter of of King Hades of Saturn, no one really know who her father is.

   Recently Sailor Mars and Sailor Mercury are awaken most likely by Luna and Pluto awaken Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus earlier with the other inner scouts no where to be found. After the battle with Queen Beryl, Minako Grace finally found Artemis again but by then we were to Japan to go back to San Fransico.

          And we arrived home, we meet tye reborn self of Sailor Saturn who happen be my younger half sister in our last life, she is a legacy like us being the daughter of Koichi Kimura the son of Ares and Legacy of Pluto. He happenb to be a different Digidestin, he is a Warrior Digidestin.

We become friends with her. Serenity & Minako Grace both dream of become a famous Actress and Singer like their mother Diana Grace. Since they have godly blood in this life they inhearte their frandfather’s power as a legacy of Jupitor and Apollo.

Michi Headcanons

1. Mimi loves having her hair played with, so she gets Tai to braid it for her. He’s become quite good at French braids.

2. When Tai wants to apologise for something, he buys or makes her a bowl of popcorn (depending on how deep the apology needs to be, it will sometimes require lots of caramel). He also gets her popcorn if she’s feeling down.

3. They both love having the last word, which results in intense, but ridiculous fights sometimes.

4. Mimi is an early riser, whereas Tai loves a good lie in. He’d start work at noon if he could, while Mimi loves getting up at the crack of dawn to have a head start on her tasks for the day.

5. Sora is very close to both of them, so whenever they fight, she will hear two different versions of the same argument. Tai and Mimi often make up on their own, but when they don’t, they both try to win her over, and Sora tries hard to stay neutral each time.

6. Mimi once told Tai that she’d never felt like she was missing out on anything by not having siblings until she saw how close he and Kari are.

7. Although Tai’s fluent in English (having even spent a year studying in New York), he sometimes asks Mimi to proofread a text or e-mail for work.

8. Mimi often gets so distracted that she forgets to drink enough water, which is why Tai reminds her to do so (by placing a glass on her desk or putting a water bottle into her handbag before she heads out).

9. Out of their group of friends, they’re probably the couple showing the most PDA. This doesn’t mean that they make out all the time or get handsy. They just like holding hands, wrapping their arm around the other’s waist or shoulder and stealing the occassional, innocent peck (it’s not much different from when they were friends; they’re both just physical people).

10. When they first started dating, Mimi was shocked to find out that Tai was immune to her puppy eyes (just hers specifically, as he told her to her chagrin, “worked great when my ex did it…” She refused to sleep in his bed for a week after he said this). Having known her for half of his life, he’d learned (albeit with great effort) to resist her big innocent eyes and pouty lips. So, Mimi had to resort to other methods if she wants something, such as kissing the back of his neck, telling him to choose a movie or baking one of his favourite treats.

11. Mimi listens to a lot of music and frequently incorporates lyrics into their daily conversations. When Tai tells her to put two sugars into his coffee, she sings “Actually, I meant three.” He regularly complains about how none of his favourite films are ever on Netflix, to which she will chant, “Ohhh, tell me something I don’t already know.”

12. When Tai’s had a bad day, he’s quiet and broody for a while. When he opens up about it, he’s looking for advice. Mimi, on the other hand, likes to vent and complain and wants him to get angry with her.

13. Once they’ve said “I love you” for the first time (Mimi claims it was her; Tai obviously says it was him), they’re not shy to repeat it frequently.

14. Tai has four nicknames for her: “Mi” for when they’re with friends and family; “Mimi Choo” when she returns from an extensive shopping trip; “Your Majesty” for when she’s telling him to do something; and “sweetness” when he wants to turn her on.

15. He gives obscure compliments. He’ll tell her that “these pancakes taste delicious” often enough, but every now and then he’ll say stuff like “these pancakes taste like the only cloud in a blue sky on a summer’s day” and move on like nothing happened. “What?!” he’ll ask when Mimi can’t decide whether she wants to melt or laugh at him. “You’re a five-star-cook. You’ve heard every kind of praise there is. I’m breathing new life into this.”

16. Mimi’s a natural at video games. A few weeks into their relationship, Tai asked her if she wanted to join him, Matt and Izzy for a round of Mario Kart, and she agreed. She ended up winning against all of them, shrugged, said “Well, this was fun,” nonchalantly and left the three guys starring at the screen in disbelief.

17. When they can’t sleep, they’ll make up elaborate, over the top travel plans (such as riding an elephant to the Taj Mahal or taking a private jet to New Zealand).

18. Some nights when they get ready for bed, Tai will come into the bathroom as Mimi’s brushing her teeth, wrap his arms around her waist seductively and whisper the worst, corniest pick-up lines into her ear (Mimi’s favourite to date is “Are you an Instagram post? Because I want to double tap you all night”).

19. It’s not often that Mimi is sad, but when something upsets her, she’ll have an even harder time dealing with it. Tai will find her on the bed, arms wrapped around her knees and tears streaming down her face. He’ll come closer to test the waters, and she’ll usually let him comfort her. She’ll tell him what’s wrong  (she might miss her parents a lot, what with them living across the Pacific, or maybe she got told off at work or, even if it’s rare, she’s doubting herself). He’ll bring her popcorn or chocolate and a glass of water and then hug her, massaging soothing circles into her back. “It’s okay, Mi, I got you,” he’ll say, and that’s usually the thing to cheer her right up.

20. Just to rile him up, Mimi sits on his lap and starts seductively kissing his neck at the most inconvenient of times: when he’s watching an important football match; when he’s on the phone with someone from work; when he’s already running late for football practice; when they’re meeting their friends at their favourite bar. “Mimi,” he’ll warn. “Please, not now. We can’t be late again…” - “We can be quick though,” she’ll try to convince him.

21. Their go to karaoke song is “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”

22. Mimi claims the best thing Tai’s ever said to her was when he came home drunk from a night out. He nuzzled into her neck and slurred, “You know I said One Direction’s fifth album wasn‘t that good? I lied, like, Love Me Goodbye is, uh, one of the saddest songs I‘ve ever heard and I made Matt listen to it so I’d have someone to, to talk to about it. Feels good to come clean. Night Mi!”

23. Mimi tries (and fails) to get ready for bed before Tai does, because he likes to lay in the middle of the bed with all four of his limbs outstretched so there is no space for her. “Will you fucking move!” she’ll say every other night, and he most likely will answer with a fake snore.

24. Since they’re both a bit full of themselves, they sometimes bet who can withhold from touching the other the longest. They keep score on a small blackboard in the kitchen.

25. They love travelling together, though they’re mostly low-budget trips because Mimi tries to go to New York at least once a year (Tai accompanies her sometimes). They go to New Zealand once (although not in a private jet) to go hiking, where they climb Ben Lomond and all Mimi’s doing is complain, ask how much further and when can they stop for food. Finally, Tai turns around and tells her hat she’s lucky he wants to spend the rest of his life with her, otherwise he’d leave her behind in the wilderness. She stops complaining after this.

DIGIMON: A JOURNEY IN FAMILY RELATIONS, GENDER, AND PERCENTAGES

Do you know when you're a hopeless case? When you spend your teenage years making statistics about family and gender representation on Digimon. And then never post them, and then forget about them until you suddenly remember ten years later. And then. AND THEN. You write up a new version and forget about it for another four years until you find it again and please, children, learn something about this fiasco. I did the first version of this back before Youtube even existed. 

A few things: 1. Hunters/Xross Wars/Appmon not included because I haven't seen them but still kind of want. If anyone wants to add them, be my guest 2. If I forgot someone or made some other kind of mistake, please tell me. It's been years since I last saw a full Digimon series through, and I was not dedicated enough to go back and look up everyone here 3. I am not a statistical genius of any sort. If I've effed up my numbers here, feel free to tell me all about it so that I can make it right.

III. TRENDS

- Boys outnumber girls 2 to 1

- Older brothers outnumber older sisters 2 to 1

- More than half of all older brothers seen on Digimon are digidestined, while only 1 of 7 older sisters is

- On average, a little more than half of the Digidestine will have a sibling of some sort

- Boy digidestined are a bit more likely than the girls to have a sibling, and a bit more likely to have a sibling on the team

- Put differently, a girl digidestined is more likely to be an only child

- No digidestined has more than one younger sibling

- Henry is the only digidestined to have both younger and older siblings

- If a girl digidestined has an older sibling, it is equally likely that this is a brother as that it's a sister

- If a boy digidestined has an older sibling, it is three times more likely that it is a brother than a sister

- In both percentage and numbers, more female digidestined than male digidestined have older sisters (Yolei, Suzie and Yoshi = 30% of all girls, vs. Davis and Henry = 9% of all boys)

- Among the male digidestined, 7 of them (32%) are the oldest child of their family.

- Jeri is the only female digidestined to have a younger sibling, and thus the only female digidestined who is the oldest child of her family (10%) 

 - If we count Ai and Mako as digidestined, the amount of older sisters nearly doubles to 18% of the girls. The amount of younger brothers increases to 13% of the boys. In either case, Tamers would have the honour of supplying 100% of all digidestined girls with younger siblings, and 66% of all digidestined boys with older sisters

- The amount of digidestined with siblings vary between 37% (Tamers) to 100% (Data Squad)

- None of the digidestined in 02 have a younger sibling, but all but Cody have an older one (funny how this reflects the series' position as the "younger sibling" to Adventures)

- If a non-digidestined sibling gets their name mentioned more than once in the series' run, the digidestined family member will be a brother

- We are shown four families with more than two children: The Kidos, the Inoues, the Wongs and the Fujiedas, with a total of 14 children - 6 boys and 8 girls.

- The above families account for 71% of all older sisters seen on the show - the only older sisters who are NOT part of a family of three or more children are Jun and Jeri. Comparatively, less than 30% of the older brothers are found in these families.

- That is to say: If you’re an older sister on Digimon, there’s a 3/4 chance that you’re a plot-irrelevant and unnamed part of a Big Family Unit

- Girl digidestined outnumber the boys in two fields: likelihood of having an older sister and likelihood of belonging to a family with more than two children. 

- Data Squad alone accounts for more than half the younger sisters present

- As a fun aside: There is on average one digidestined per season that has a prematurely dead family member, though the number increases if you include Yukidaramon and Kouji having grown up thinking that his mother was dead. Just like Jeri was the only digidestined girl who is an older sister, she is also the only digidestined girl to get to be a part of the Dead Mom club.

BIOGRAPHY ://

it doesn’t matter what tk’s name was before it was takeru, but it was something else, and that something else is what his mom called him until he was ten. his older brother, despite staying with their dad a hundred miles away, called him tk from when he was about six onward, as soon as it became apparent that the wanting to be a boy thing was more than just hero worship for his older brother. besides the name thing, the girl thing, his childhood was relatively happy for a child of divorce who didn’t see one of their parents and rarely saw their older brother face to face.

takeru takaishi is a child of divorce, and he doesn’t mind that in the slightest, so long as his brother is still around to tell him what’s what. despite what yamato thinks, takeru does know the nature of their biological siblinghood, but yama will go to the grave thinking that tk doesn’t. it’s never mattered to takeru whether or not they shared all of their dna, so matt is his brother. matt has stuck with him through everything - through the divorce, through coming out, through leaving home; matt is his constant.

he and matt have shared friends most of tk’s cognizant life, whether they were five seconds apart or five hours, and they usually made friends together. when tk was eleven, though, he met a boy called patrick nearly all by himself, and that’s when things were different; takeru doesn’t know who he would be without patrick. they’re a matched set, have been for the past ten years, and tk loves him to pieces.

coming to the asteroid was less of a choice and more of a following, trailing after matt and the majority of the friends they shared. he and patrick took it as their next great adventure, codependently linked at the hip, and takeru took to learning everything about the asteroid just because he could. he learns more about it and the people on it every single day.

AESTHETIC ://

yellow hearts, a childlike smile, holding hands with your sibling, making plans with too many people to have just one groupchat, a four minute long snapchat story, pictures of dogs, hanging picture frames so you can always see your friends, quiet strength, yellow tinted fairy lights, singing as you clean, smiling at strangers, killing with kindness.

MISC ://

takeru really wants to be a painter; he wants to inspire hope and happiness in other people, give them something to enjoy without having to work too hard to enjoy it.

he’d also like to be a writer, because he thinks he could weave happy endings for characters who deserve them, as well as bad endings for those who deserve those. he’s just gotta come up with a big plot.

there are certain aspects of tk’s life that he does not elaborate on, but the most questioned one is this: he doesn’t date much. he jokes about it and avoids the question instead of confronting the actual problem: a crippling fear of commitment to anyone but his brother and his friends.

there are three people he tells “everything” to: his brother, matt, his best friend, patrick, and his other best friend, kari. he tells them different pieces of everything though.

he steals clothes and wears way too much yellow, just interspersed with his brother’s leather jackets and patrick’s jeans and kari’s hats. he’s that guy.

a full moon against a blue sky. sneakers, unlaced upon the floor. the sharp sound of an old harmonica. the pelt of a wolf, rough beneath your palm. dated cassette tapes. a warm embrace. tall stacks of recently burnt CDs. the feeling of a muted mic, rolled between your hands. turning it on, taking a deep breath. that first note. falling into it. the fear of rejection. the sound of an excited crowd. muscle tees. fingerless gloves. remembering.

MISC ://

matt is reservation expressed by an aloof attitude. he often comes across as secretive and mature, but at least part of it is an act. he second guesses himself more than anyone he knows. he doesn't like to charge into things without a plan, but has a bit of a quick temper. he struggles to look at the big picture. his self worth hinges on his ability to be a good friend. but that is arbitrary at best and he spends a little too much time hating himself.

matt was strongly affected by his parents' divorce as a child. it wasn't because he didn't want his parents to separate (though he didn't) and it wasn't because he thought that it was his fault (though he did). no, it was because he was extremely close to his younger brother, takeru. it still affects him to this day in fact, but only in the quiet times. times where he wonders what he missed in those years between their divorce and when the siblings reunited full time at the space station. though he kept in touch as best he could, it wasn't at all the same as watching his brother grow up.

matt didn't realize that he and tk are half siblings until he was well into adulthood. it's a small blessing that tk doesn't know.

books his own gigs across the space station. not tied to any particular business.

has a strange relationship with his father. he lived with his dad after the divorce by his own choice, but that was mostly because his parents were determined to split up their kids and tk needed his mom. while he loves his dad, they never really seem to be on the same page. he doesn't really understand why matt chose to come to the space station, but supports it nonetheless. which is all that matt really needs.

has been on the space station for months, but doesn't really socialize outside of his brother,  his best friend, and the meager friend group that he has managed to collect. doesn't have any casual friends, isn't on good terms with any coworkers. but it's not because he doesn't want to be. it's because despite his best efforts, matt can never manage to come across as friendly and approachable.
