Bernard isn't exactly the most popular junior at Louis E. Grieve Memorial High School. Which is fine, all he needs is to get through the next couple years. He does have one problem, however. That is that Darla Aquista, the girl that he's obsessively crushed on for years, hardly notices him.

One of the popular guys mentions something about a highly advanced technology from Japan—a Super Quantum Unit Intel Processor. Something that'll get rid of all your problems, make you cool, get you the girl. He'd hook Bernard up with a Squip for just one upfront payment.

His best friend, Tim, wasn't all for it. $600 for some pill-sized supercomputer? Definitely a scam... but Bernard had to try.

Bernard, left alone after taking it, was shot with pain throughout his entire body. Once recovered from his writing in agony, a Chaos Monster, a rumoured creature that existed in Gotham, beings that served Dionysus, stood before him. He'd always had a sick fascination with them.

The creature was degrading and snide, spewed hurtful words about Bernard, but he promised a future in which Bernard was 'chill'. One where Darla was practically begging to be with him. And could that really be so bad?

Next thing Tim knew, he was being ignored in the hallways, as his online chat messages were left unanswered. He really needed to figure out what this Squip thing is.

Tim may have access to Bat tech, but he doesn't need Bruce getting involved, so he goes directly to the only other person who could help: Dick.

Dick knew of them. Of course he did. Some friend's friend was driven insane trying to get it out. And apparently all Tim needed to save his friend was Mountain Dew Red. Should be easy enough.

also i have a few theories about our MC if you don't mind-

1. so... as i played through the nightmare scene for the 9th time in a row to fully relish the horror and trauma, i realized that our dear (but unfortunate) MC must have gone through something MUCH MUCH worse than merely watching their father get oofed off by their mother 🤔🤔🤔 because i once read somewhere that if someone experiences like a really bad traumatic experience their brain will instinctively suppress their memories and lock them away to protect the person from getting anymore affected and also to give them a sense of normality? dunno about that our brains can be really mysterious sometimes, which brings me to my second theory

2. OK OK OK i know this may sound crazy and also scientifically inaccurate, but i think MC has some sort of Dissociative disorder? i mean- how do you explain their sudden black out from their home to their journey all the way to Bale's territory and the bar? or maybe im just overthinking it and perhaps its somehow related to the hallucinations and the syringes that have been emphasized over multiples times in the demo

3. why do i feel our MC is being drugged with something 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 or maybe something happened before or after the incident with their father otherwise why would Alex act so sus, Vincent too, YALL TOO SUS

and so ends my theory spree as i have exhausted my remaining two brain cells to make SOME kind of sense and connection through this whole theory thing

Oh that is long, but don't be sorry! I love seeing long messages like this 😌And I’m so glad you love the story to this extent 😭

First of all, so there'll be no misunderstandings, I want to make it clear that what the MC is going through isn't exactly a dissociative disorder, although there is some degree of disassociation happening. I can't explain further because it's a very huge spoiler, but not everything they've been experiencing can be solely attributed to the level of trauma and other related occurrences that DID patients often went through before being diagnosed. It's a little... different.

This does not mean, however, that the MC has no repressed memories 😔 If you look carefully, there are actually some more hints spread throughout the demo, although some of them are hidden behind certain routes. A lot are in Chapter 2, though. Anyway, the revelations relating to it won’t be the focus of Book 1, but there will be a lot more clues in the future.

And yeah, I'm afraid Alex and Vincent will continue to be sus all the way.

To be fair, I don't think arresting them counts as offing lmao but yeah there's a heavy corruption occurring within the police force and everybody knows it; it's just that most of the people in Gaile cannot do anything to stop it. And don't worry about Bertrand, he already sleeps with one eye open lmaoooo although he does have kind of a huge role (spoiler: he will always be an asshole).

Wesley's reuinion scene, though... if you all think the flashback scene is already conflicting you, well, the reunion might uh.... actually nevermind, I'm not gonna spoil it.

3. What is MC’s family like now?

I’m leaving here Kate’s direct family. I didn’t include Kate and Charlie’s daughter because I don’t have a name or a back story for her.

Here we have the Williams part of the family Nicholas (Obliviator) and Aurora (arithmancer and the actual brain behind the family's finances), Kate's grandparents, had 3 children: Evira (professor), Erick (auror), Joseph (dtp of International Magical cooperation). Joseph is Kate's dad.

The Walsh side of the family starts with Bernard (potioneer) and Julie (muggle nurse), Kate's grandparents, who had 2 children: Natalia (journalist) and Cornelia (apparition examiner). Natalia is Kate's mom.

This is the Walsh side of the family. Bernard's parents were Taidgh (broom maker) and Fiona (owl trainer). They had 10 children (see below).

Julie was the only child of muggles Ronan (fisherman) and Ciara Flannigan (fish seller)

The 10 Walsh siblings in order are: Imogen(farmer), Muireann (tutor), Paddy(broom maker), Adeline (aurologist), Collin (saleswizard in quidditch games), Cornelia (alchemist, Bernard's daughter was named after her), Brian (magizoologist), Jane (muggle relations), Bernard (potioneer), Seán (squib)

Details of these characters will be on another post about the Ireland fic character list that Im working on. (I might change a few names)

6. How has MC’s style changed?

The first year at Hogwarts was very child-like. She was still that little girl that came from a wealthy and sinister family, always in the shadows and behind doors because she wasn’t allowed to enter most of the rooms. She carried a small charm that Jacob gave her and it was the year she adopted Grimoire in Diagon Alley, first rebellious act since the Williams manor only allowed owls and Aurora Williams’ spider. In her defense, she went to Diagon Alley all alone.  Her style reflected innocence.

There was a huge leap between 1st and 2nd-3rd year. Mom went to Beirut, dad was busy in the ministry, and her brother was still missing. She opted for the same 3 outfits all the time.

The next big change occurred in fourth year. She started hanging out with Tonks and she absorbed a little bit of her dark style. All-black outfits were daily and she started experimenting with skirts. That dark look in addition with her winning every single game of gobstones, being fearless in duel and her original bad reputation, reflected confidence. Also, mama gifts her a nice bag.

From 7th year and onwards she shifts to more ‘badass looks’. She still favours dark colours like blacks and browns, but her go-to outfits include leather jackets and boots. Before the war, she became an animagus, which is a black cat form. An important accessory is the dragon necklace that Charlie gives her before going to Romania, and she wears it until the war, where she loses it. Another detail that I’m not going to explain now (still figuring it out and I don’t want to give away too much about the next fic) is that she gets a matching tattoo with Charlie: a serch bythol (with some magic properties)

In her 30s and 40s she is a respectable mediwizard now and she starts dressing a little bit more classy. She is not giving up her leather jacket yet but more blouses and dress pants are added to her closet.

Kate went full witch mode when she passed her fifties. Loving the aesthetic of it all, she shamelessly wears her witch hats to every party, reunion or gathering. Long dresses with pockets are a favourite. 

In reality, she is a softie, and you know that when talking to her. If you are lucky enough to be her apprentice you will find her elegant, intimidating and very very wise. After a while, you will discover that she has an enormous heart.

8. How is MC’s and Jacob’s relationship now? (If your Jacob is alive)

My Jacob is very much dead. I don’t plan on changing that. If he was alive (let’s imagine that au) I think their relationship will be problematic. He loved her little sister, but she was more of a burden than anything else. Growing up in the Williams manor was the first curse he encountered in his life: his grandfather pressured him to follow every Williams man’s steps and become a Ministry employee, dad did the same, mom was never home, and he had to take care of his little sister because leaving her alone in that house wasn't an option.

When they reunited, he would still see her as the toddler that sniffled every leaf and flower, that collected pretty rocks and buried her little fingers in the soil just to experiment, all while he tried to read his book under a tree.

There would be a slow and long process of getting to know each other again.

In fact, now that I’m thinking about it, I don’t think Kate would have moved in with Charlie so soon if Jacob was still alive. The two years that they were apart, maintaining a long-distance relationship, she was grieving and living alone in a flat in London that the Williams family provided. If Jacob had survived, they would have moved out of the manor together and it would have taken longer for Kate to go to Charlie.

12. What was MC’s reaction learning Bill and Charlie’s little sister went missing her First Year?

Well, she couldn't do much about it, it's not like she would go to Hogwarts and look for her herself. But she was worried. Some old fears came back, the similarities with her own experience with her brother made her uneasy, but after confirming it didn't have anything to do with the vaults she could think a little bit better. At that time she was a healer trainee at St Mungo’s and Charlie was already in Romania so there was a lot of letter-exchanging just with updates of the situation. 

15. MC’s experience at Bill’s wedding? (Did they attend Bill’s wedding? What did they wear? Did they play a role in it? Were they the bride? =p)

Kate and Charlie attended Bill’s wedding but they weren't happy about it. They love Fleur, and Bill too but with everything that was happening then it didn't seem like a good idea. They were vigilant the whole evening, especially Kate.

Reuniting with Tonks and other Hogwarts friends made her relax a bit and actually enjoy herself. We'll leave the details for a fic I'll write someday.

I shamelessly say that they matched outfits. Kate wanted to wear a pointy hat that Charlie gave her one Christmas with a dark blue dress that matched the inside of the hat.

She noticed the disappointment on his face when he saw it and later found out that he had chosen a shirt to go with the previous dress she had shown him. She changed outfits and with some gold accessories, they went to the Burrow thinking they were the best looking couple there.

I couldn't find a picture of what I had in mind for him because I took the idea from this fanart from cursebreakerglenetive .

That’s the exact outfit. I fell in love when I saw the concept. No tie, of course, the burgundy undershirt and inside of the jacket, the belt with golden dragon details is everything.

For her, a simple but elegant dress, with her golden dragon necklace and long earrings.

Nice experience overall until everything went to hell, we all know that part.

aight im finally back on track with the theories ! (p.s. warning some of them might sound downright crazy or bullshit)

1. so i assume with all available information (or maybe I'm just too oblivious) vincent is currently still working for the marshal, which makes me wonder just how much a bad bitch they for literally every one of MC's companions to warn them against them 🤔🤔🤔🤔 aside from the countless arrests they have done illegally, which doesn't seem too bad considering they were all bad guys i guess, SO IT BRINGS ME TO MY FIRST THEORY that maybe everything from the super secret mission MC got in the very beginning of the story to Bale's death might have just been an extremely elaborate plan go bring them right under the marshals thumb to make them just another of their pawns like vincent, maybe they're doing it for MCs skills or maybe for the hospital that Alex is running which just gives off super sus vibes to me again, OR MAYBE ... JUST MAYBE it has something to do with the hallucinations? maybe they want something or some info that only our MC knows but forgot about after some of their memories were suppressed they couldn't remember it so they want them under their command to have access to it

2. after taking a closer look at the previous and current demo it seems both alex and Vincent are aware of the MC's 'whatever that black out was' plus that bad PTSD attack i believe after alex sent them upstairs, so maybe they know something or are hidding something from the MC doesn't know and are trying to them shield them from the truth in case it breaks them, mentally i mean. maybe Vincent is the only one who is aware of MC's occasional disassociation therefore the understanding look they gave them

3. and now here im wondering what the hell did MC do with the little bottle of that sus liquid they found on Landry after ignoring Callie/Lucas's warning and rushing in to save them. makes me wonder maybe it's some kind of new potent drug that are planning to distributing. and maybe MC's father had something to do with and maybe he had a bad fallout with Bale for which he tried running away with his research but was unfortunately gunned down by his wife for

What I can say here is that a lot of the things occurring at the present are vastly connected to each other :) Also, you might get an insight next update as to why the marshal and her agents are hated by MC's companions.

Whatever clue the MC got in Chapter 1 was actually mentioned in Chapter 2, and the MC brought it along with them (if that small bit of text didn't appear, that may have been a bug lmao). You'll slowly get to learn more about them, and sometime in the future, there might be a whole chapter dedicated to it :))) Those who have remained in the car will still get a separate unique route, of course. I can't say anything else about the rest of that paragraph because of the massive spoilers but, interesting :)

For your questions:

Not everyone hates Vincent. Some folks mostly avoid him because of his connection to the marshal, but that's it. People don't hate him the way they hate the MC. For Alex's reason... well, let's just say Vincent would agree that he's got a very valid one.

You'll get to do a lot; they'll also get to do a lot, though. Oh, and Bertrand... that man will just keep getting on your nerves, I think.

Ah, apologies, that will never happen for Alonzo and Wesley. Alonzo might tolerate Wesley but... they'd never be close friends even. Perhaps there will be respect, but never friendship. It's just, too complicated. We'll see if I can handle a poly route for another pairing. I actually have something in mind, but tbh I don't think I could handle the coding side of it.

Arnel is one of my favorite characters, personally. I'm not sure if y'all will love him, but you'll definitely get plenty of chances to meet him. He's got a very significant role in the story, after all. Their banters are also quite amusing lmao.

You will! There will be a huge conversation between Alex and the MC in a future chapter, and your choices there might have an influence on which Book 1 ending you'll be getting 👀

9. longest wip of the year

The Datura stramonium series. I have mixed feelings with that. Something that makes the inspiration fluids flow is reading the books. I like putting mc’s life in parts of the Harry Potter series that are not mentioned or vague, maybe some plot holes that I can fix (a little bit arrogant for my part but). I started writing when I was reading the Goblet of Fire, and I thought ‘What if mc was in the Quidditch World Cup but wasn’t mentioned in the books because she wasn’t with Harry?’. The thing with Datura stramonium is that the story has no relation to the Harry Potter books, it’s completely independent and I don’t know what to do with it. There are no restrictions because I can do whatever I want with the characters because they are ocs. And that blocks me in a way. I wasn’t enjoying it anymore and I put it on hold. I intend to finish it next year; I have an outline, a purpose and I know how I want it to end, I just need some time to figure things out and decide how Kate’s going from point A to point B without being boring or tedious.

12. favourite character to write about this year

I knew from the start that Kate must have had a complicated family history, when I used to play HogsMyst, I noticed that mc’s parents where hardly mentioned. I didn’t want Kate to have horrible parents that hate their daughter and that she blames them for everything. I didn’t want that kind of drama. To solve this, the logical solution was that they were really invested in jobs that were of international business (making them travel a lot, and generally being absent). I didn’t want to make Kate a loner either, she needed a relative completely opposite to her parents. And Bernard Walsh happened. A grandfather/mother as a role model was perfect. His personality and backstory came to me so naturally, it felt right. I also wanted to create a cool grandmother as well, but it was then when I added the drama factor: it’s only natural to lose the people we love, and that would make it more realistic.

Bernard is such a wonderful man, I am for sure going to write more about him.

So, we have Datura, and all the random pieces, scenes, dialogues I haven’t written because I don’t know what to do with them. I also have a secret document that someday will see the light of day, when it’s long enough, of a compilation of moments that I cut out from fics because I didn’t want to make them too cheesy).

19. any new fics to start next year

Okay, *cracks knuckles*, since I am currently reading the Order of Phoenix the majority of the fics are going to be “mission oriented” (because of what I explained in point 9). This is the forecast:

- Finishing Datura series

- Missions for the Order: a dangerous trip to Albania and also a mini series about a mission in Drumstrang school (I want to explore first person POV again because I enjoyed it tremendously).

- I also want to explore the time when Charlie went to Romania. I want to discuss how they felt, how they coped with a long-distance relationship, what were the challenges there etc. Also changing the format, maybe through letters or mixing POVS, 2020 is going to be a year of practising different styles for me. So yeah, a few fluffy pieces are in the horizon.

That’s the plan. If I get creative and write other things so be it, and if I get frustrated and I end up not writing, that’s okay too.

I read a lot of magnificent fics this year, there’s a lot of talent out there and that is amazing to me. I will always, always recommend At All Cost series by @ardentmuse. That fic is exquisite; the way its written, the plot, her Charlie… that’s the fic that inspired me to start writing.
