Why is it that whenever someone talks about media literacy they only talk about things like rape, incest, pedophilia, and murder but never misogyny, racism, fatphobia, or ableism

Like it’s always about “problematic ships” and “evil characters” but never about how the treatment of woc in media influences how woc are treated in society and vice versa. How female characters are almost always the ones being singled out as “annoying” compared to male characters. Or how, yeah, there might be an in-story reason to why this lazy, depressed character is fat but societal views on fat people being lazy, depressed, unhygienic, etc., most definitely influenced the writer’s choice to make that lazy character fat.

I find that a lot of the “media literacy” arguments that pertain to subjects of sexual abuse and violence don’t really apply to other subjects in a way that isn’t wildly or even somewhat bigoted. Ofc there’s not gonna be a catch-all argument for how every theme should be treated in media but the arguments should at least be somewhat consistent.

I rarely ever see anyone talk about media literacy in a way that doesn’t boil down to “ok but liking evil/bad/taboo characters/themes/stories don’t make you a bad person and authors can write things they don’t agree about.” This statement isn’t wrong and i agree with it but it shouldn’t be your only knowledge on what media literacy is.

Sometimes, a story that has a rape scene in it depicts rape poorly. Whether its because rape was written in a fetishistic light or because the victims weren’t treated with the respect that they deserve, you need to be able to know how and why that scene is (cant think of a better word rn but I’ll probably change it later cause i don’t really like using this word) problematic. The fact that the story depicts rape isn’t the problem, it’s how they chose to depict it. And yes, how this story depicts rape can absolutely affect how a person views rape victims irl.

Sometimes, an author includes racist views into their work. Sure, depiction isn’t endorsement but when an author writes primarily about white characters, and has the first character of color in their book be executed as that character’s introduction, don’t be surprised when that author turns out to be a racist.

Yes, fiction isn’t one-to-one with reality but they both influence each other in a way that cannot be escaped. You will never find a piece of media that isn’t influenced by reality and you will never find a person whose views havent been influenced by a piece of media.

(Also, there is a tendency that i see in a lot of fandom “media literacy” people. And that is the tendency to use leftist, anti-racist phrases and terminology to refer to fandom discourse. “Kill the cop inside your head” refers to killing that part of your brain that has been drilled by society to view black, brown, and poor people as threats. It does not refer to people who don’t like your 20k incest fanfiction and are kinda mean about it. Stop fucking fandomizing anti-racist rhetoric. You just look fucking racist)

"growth hurts," he mused as he remained in front of you resting on the couch. his entire body jolted, head ticking to the side with rough movement. he lifted a mechanical leg to rest it on the couch next to your seated position. he hoisted himself up and spun quickly, sitting himself down alongside you. "do not move." all of the panels surrounding the room shift in wave like motions, almost masking a hissing noise from around you. you turned your head from side to side to see glass panels rising up, entrapping you in a transparent cell. she looked on as you panicked, nearly falling against one of the glass panel walls. when you looked back to her, vision blurry from the tears still pooling in your eyes, she swayed aside as if she was monitoring your every move. you blinked several times, attempting to focus your vision. "glados," you hissed out through grit teeth as you squeezed your arms around yourself tighter in hopes to lessen the pain of your contracting muscles. "what are you doing?" but like… the thing about sae is that he’s always been smart and detached. ever since he was a kid - he’s had a very.. weird world view and he’s always viewed his desires as objective truth. the idea of dating had always been so subpar to him. even if he has to socialize, he doesn’t have to work for attention and appraisal. he didn’t want it so he didn’t ever care.

it changes when he meets you but winning someone’s affection isn’t something that’s easily attained. especially because he’s never had to try. his name literally means blessed. when sae falls for you, i think he gets so deeply frustrated at how hard it is to attain you. the only thing that rin has over sae is some semblance of natural sensitivity (even if rin tries to suppress its there).

sae has never ever had to try in this way before. for anyone. hes never had to win approval because it didn’t matter in his career. he’s never had to sway someone’s emotions. there’s like a brief moment suspended in time where he’s grappling with it. the extent of those feelings fucking bother him. where i think rin is possessive out of like natural affection, sae is possessive because he’s always a little frustrated.

one of the flaws he thinks of himself is that he doesn’t understand anything aside from soccer. that includes love. he doesn’t have a normal idea of it. he’s dominated and overwritten his own emotions through this lens of logic thats in reality so subjective.

sae is possessive because his emotions towards you are like a little unstable. he uses that instability as justification. him having feelings for you is just such a point of contention for him and the lengths that he went through to effectively become someone you want, cant be overstated.

(but he can’t verbalize that either because he’s prideful.)

so, when it comes to dating you - it was something that he had to work for. and your obliviousness to the depth of his emotions only convinces him that he’s rightful owner of your sweetness.

of course he’s possessive. how could he be anything but when you’re so clueless to all the things he had to do to get here. it’s annoying for him, that other people can see what he can. that they can covet something he worked for. sae wants to be best in the world. he’s smart and rational about it. he wants to walk that path as the single center focus and he puts everything into getting there.

GREAT QUESTION!! i have a lot to say abt all of these so sorry for my ramblings in advance but in no particular order we have:

1. MCR Boston2 - its hard for me to pick my favorite of my MCR shows but the setlist for this one juuuust pushes it over my first show i think. got to gear sooo many of my faves that night- SCARECROW and Deathwish and Summertime and Boy Division and Best Day Ever and Cancer!!!!! they played a lot of danger days song which obviously i fucking LOVED and idk something abt Famous Las Words really got to me that night. maybe its bc even tho our seats were kinda shitty that meant i could see basically the whole crowd as well as the stage and i just remember feeling so at home like "oh yeah. you all understand too huh?". i was also dressed as party poison that night so a lot of cool people came up to talk to me lmao

2. Set It Off at the Palladium for the Dopamine Tour - my most recent time seeing the boys AND MY FIRST TIME MEETING THEM!!!! they were all so sweet and they played an acoustic version of Bleak December which had me Felling Things. AND THEN THE SETLIST FOR THE SHOW ITSELF WAS INCREDIBLE AND THEY FUCKING PLAYED MISS MYSTERIOUS WHICH US LIKE MY FAVORITE SONG EVER OF ALL TIME AND ID RATHER DROWN WHICH IS ANOTHER ONE OF MY FAVES AND FUCKING ILL SLEEP WHEN IM DEAD WHICH WAS MY ANTHEM IN MIDDLE SCHOOL- and also Scene Queen opened and she was fucking spectacular and im really glad i lost my dad in the crowd before her set bc i lost my shit screaming along with her sings and he Did Not need to hear that 💀

3. Fall Out Boy at Darien Center - first time seeing fob the seats were so fucking good and i met so many cool people AND HEARD HEADFIRST SLIDE AND YOURE CRASHING AND 27 AND GET BUSY LIVIN AND- also i was at the park connected to the venue and i fucking left before the rest of my family to get some rest before the show. and literally as soon as i get to the fucking hotel my dad texts me a picture of PETE FUCKING WENTZ. IF I HAD JUST WAITED LIKE TEN MINUTES I COULDVE MET PETE WENTZ BUT NOOOO I WANTED TO REST SO J WOULDNT GET A HEADACHE IM STILL NOT OVER THIS MY DAD WHI DOESNT LIKE FOB SAW PETE WENTZ AFTER I HAD BEEN JOKING ABT JT ALL DAY GOD HATES ME BUT ITS FINE BC AT LEAST I GOT TO LOSE MY SHIT TO HEADFIRST SLIDE ONLY SONG EVER OF ALL TIME

4. Set It Off at Toad's Place for the Welcome to Elsewhere Tour - yes of course they're on here twice idc if theres other vands i could mention THEYRE THEM. this show was incredible, i managed to push my way almost to barricade by the end of the show AND i caught one of zach's guitar picks!! the openers were both killer too, but Cherie Amour in particular stood out to me so obviously i bought a CD after their set (which was SIGNED and i got to meet/take a photo with Trey and Brendan and they were both so nice it was awesome)

5. The Used & Pierce the Veil (i forget where this was and im too lazy to look it up rn 💀) - VICS VOICE LIVE HELLO????? HOW DOES HE SOUND LIKE THAT IM IN LOVE WITH HIM RAAAAGH- and look even tho i love ptv im much more of a casual fan when it comes to them so it was nice bc i had fun during their set but still had so much energy left over for THE MOTHERFUCKING USED. YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW LOUD I WAS SCREAMING WHEN BERT CAME ON STAGE MAN AND GE WAS HOLDING A TRANS FLAG WHEN HE WALKED OUT AND THAT ALONE NEARLY MADE ME CRY THEY WERE SO AMAZING IM VERY INCOHERENT ABT THIS SHOW BC I LOVE THEM SM IT WAS SO FUN AND I CANT WAIT TO (HOPEFULLY) SEE THEM AGAIN NEXT MONTH

HEHE OH THIS IS SO FUN i do ...... i love sleepy little guys . ok hello its next day valentine and i wrote a whole long paragraph and then fell asleepers and i dont wanna take fifty years to reply to asks the way i always do so im just doing jeddie and yvonne bc theyre my tippy top favs rn :3 im really into syd too rn but if i take the time to do a big research dive into eveery time hes ever mentioned sleeping im gonna fuck myself over bc i can Vaguely remember him having sleep habits of some sort that are brought up once or twice and if i dive into all that this is gonna take even longer to post!!!!!!!

i think jedidiah gets sleepy very quickly and easily but is kind of in denial of this fact . hes like an old man the second its like 8 pm hes getting sleepy but he forces himself to stay up until 8 am thru the sheer power of paranoia and freakishness anyway . he gets kinda sleepy mumbly he like tries to go on long rambles but its sort of incoherent and quiet . also i think he sleeps in the weirdest positions EXCLUSIVELY he cant sleep if all his limbs arent bent in weird positions and his head isnt tilted weirdly and his pillow isnt in the most hyperspecific configuration possible . also i feel like he needs a clock by him to sleep ..... he needs to Hear the ticking or he cant sleep . i also think he has a lot of rituals (sorry for ocdjedding i cant help it) abt checking to be sure sydneys alive and shit like that so he tends to like . practically fall asleep and then get very anxious and checky and then almost fall back asleep again and hten loop for a while before he properly zonks out

yvonne i think is very much the opposite she can stay up SUPER late . whenever theyd hang out w the above at night jeddied start nodding off in the middle of it and yvonned shake him up . i think they tend to snore and sleeptalk theyre Quite noisy when theyre asleep joshua is deeply annoyed by it but yvonne tells him 2 stop being a big baby . i think they get very grouchy when shes tired in the mornings they NEEED to wake up late and have had breakfast in order to talk to u or else theyre grumbling and glaring and making huffy noises about it . on the contrary i think at NIGHTS when shes sleepy shes very silly and chatty and they go on big rambles and enjoy cuddling up and things like that . tired vs sleepy ........ i think they also sleep Splayed About all over the place and i dont think they usually have a blanket they seem like the type to run hot to me ... goths who run hot i salute u . they can also sleep anywhere i feel like they can sleep in a chair or leaning against something or at a desk or standing up at any time if theyre sleepy they can just zonk out

one of the biggest challenges of this script has definitely been all the intersecting plot lines. i’ve never really attempted anything this expansive or complicated before, so there’s definitely a learning curve to it! i’m glad you’re enjoying it so far. & while i don’t think this plot twist is one of my best by any means, and honestly i wasn’t even thinking about it as a plot twist, i’m still glad you liked it! i really adore writing plot twists, and i love the feeling you get when reading something that has been so cleverly executed. it’s really the same feeling that i strive to emulate in all my fics!

i just said this in another ask, but i am SO psyched about max’s plot. i was really stuck on what to do with her, but i didn’t want to sideline her. pairing her up with terry was something that i never considered, but i literally had a revelation one night and was like oh my god that’s PERFECT!! & i haven’t seen anyone else do anything even moderately close, so i’m very excited to try something new.

i love a good reference!! parallels make my heart so happy. or so sad. depending on the circumstance. the rain fight one was a little bit evil, i’ll admit. the curiosity voyage was a lot more fun!

Update on my progress with Kenshin's route:

Spoilers, duh.

Im on chapter 3 rn, and I think I'm slowly starting to see why so many people like him? Dunno really. I think its sweet how Kenshin tries to tell MC that she should leave Azuchi, all because he doesn't want her caught up in the cross fire when he rages war on Nobunaga.

But then later denies everything when Shingen tries to call him out after a report from Yukimura. But all Kenshin has to say is that Yukimura's blind lol. But so far, Kenshin has surprised me the most and its literally chapter 3.

But that honestly might be because I've only played both endings for Mitsuhide and Hideyoshi's romantic end, and Kenshin didn't have really any involvement in that outside of a handful of third pov scenes in Mitsuhide's. I cant even remember if he had involvement in Hideyoshi's. But Kenshin seems really different than my original impression of a cold and violence-hungry warlord. He's still violence-hungry, but I wouldnt call him cold.

It seems that in the short time he's known MC, he has slowly started to care for her. Because why else would he warn her in an attempt to keep her from harms way? I think this may be because she was either a mystery to him, or she didn't mind being herself around him. Not entirely sure yet but I swear to god if it's similar to the reason Mitsuhide loved MC I may just throw hands- As much as I love Mitsuhide, his standards are lower than I originally thought. If Kenshin's the same way- omfg.

Bakugo x reader, Bakugo x Uraraka, Kirishima x Reader

Fluff- ish, language, little angst

Word Count: 1,401

Idea: Y/n has a secret to share with bakugo not expecting a secret from him. She leaves heart broken and attempts to move on. But how will she move on if her secret can no longer be hidden? She fakes a relationship hoping its enough to not expose the true origin of the secret. (This is a terrible summary but I cant say much without spoiling future parts. 🙃)

“I feel scared but excited” Kirishima says nervously, “I am ready to be the best dad our baby could ever have”

Izuku and Shoto smile at his enthusiasm and nod, “I’m glad Y/n has you.. also now that I think about it. Does Bakugo now about the two of you?”

You nod, “Yeah.. He found out that day I twisted my ankle... Let’s just say he was furious”

They look at each other before Shoto speaking up, “So what are you both going to do with the rumor going around?”

You bite your lip as Kirishima answers, “Both of us are going to make a joint statement to clarify and take down the rumors.” You nod in agreement.

“I just wish I fucking knew who gave them the anonymous tip.” You say thinking of who could knowingly try to stain your reputation. It wouldn’t be Bakugo, right?

During that silence you check your phone and see that you have different notifications from your friends. You read over some and laugh at Kaminari’s string of incoherent texts,

“Kiri, did you also receive a fuck load of messages from our friends?”

He looks confused but checks his phone and notices that, he did in fact have a lot of messages and they kept coming.

“This anonymous bitch really left us in a pickle, I cant even relax in peace because someone decided to start a rumor, that by the way, is the opposite of what happened. To make things worse Ground Zero’s bitch ass didn’t even comment making me and Kiri look bad-”

“What do you mean its the opposite of what happened?” Izuku interrupts your rant.

‘Well shet.’

“Yeah soooo... um... He was the one that cheated on me... I caught him the day I was going to- to the store. I found him at his house with- with some skank and I stayed with Kirishima until I moved out which coincidentally was right beside him and you, Izuku.”

Shoto and Izuku look shocked and feel anger towards Bakugo. They both wonder why the hell he would cheat on someone as kind and loving as you.

“But I don’t care... I have Kiri now” you smile and look over at Kirishima who smiles and blushes.

“Well,,, Y/N sorry for bursting in here, we just wanted to know from you instead of believing the news.” Shoto says softly as he begins to walk towards the door.

“That’s fine shoto.” You pause before continuing, “Have fun boning. But dont be to fucking loud!” Izuku blushes and stutters but Shoto rolls his eyes and grabs Izuku practically dragging him out because Izuku stopped working You and Kirishima laugh as you see them leave.

“Well, that was something.” You nod and try and muffle a yawn.

“Y/N, lets go to sleep. We have an early day tomorrow as we will have to deal with the press and the announcement.”

You nod in agreements and walk to your bedroom to get ready for bed.

When you’re done Kirishima walks in to say good night but you pat the empty side of your bed, inviting him to sleep with you. He smiles and lays down beside you and instantly is tangled in between your limbs.

You awake the next day to find yourself alone, confused, you get up and and look for Kirishima. You find him all dressed up in his hero outfit and smile.

“Sorry Kiri but looks like you’re going to be the only one wearing a hero suit. There will be no way I will fit into my hero outfit. Not with this belly” You watch him laugh and reach out for your belly. He pulls you closer and puts his face right on your belly “I can’t wait until your born- uh... what are we going to call the baby?” He pulls away and looks at you.

“I- I don’t know... Do you have any suggestions?”

He shakes his head, “We should start thinking of some names”

You nod and lean down to kiss his forehead. “Let me go change into something and we can head out to your agency so we can get this announcement over with.” You lull away and change into a an outfit that accentuates your belly making it obvious. ‘No need to hide it anymore’ you think and walk out to find Kirishima had made a breakfast for both of you. You sit beside him and eat in a comfortable silence.

As it nears time for you to go you both rush to get everything and head out the door.

You both walk to his agency, where there is a crowd of paparazzi waiting and a Podium in front of them which you guess is for the both of you. Once they spot you they begin to bombard both of you with questions but you ignore them as you make your way up. You feel nervous but calm down when Kirishima holds your hand.

You both stand side by side behind the podium and the paparazzi begin quieting down so they can hear you speak.

You stand there silent making them wait in suspense because you’re feeling like a little shit rn. You take a deep breath and speak.

“As you all may know, we are having to stand here in front of you all because the news, got an anonymous tip. That tip was false. I never did cheat on Ground Zero with his best friend. Ground Zero and I were split long before Red Riot and I got together. Red Riot helped me heal and we fell in love. Yes, I will always love Ground Zero, but there was” You pause, “One thing he did that hurt me so much. I Hope to maybe forgive him in the future, but for now? Forgiveness is off the tables for Ground Zero.”

You look at Kirishima and he squeezes your hand giving you a proud grin.

You let the press and paps take in the informations before continuing, “I will confirm that the news only got half of the information right. I am pregnant. And yes I will be taking an indefinite leave in hero work. I will return when I find the right time after my- mine and Kirishima’s baby is born. I hope this clears shit up because I am so tired of-“ Your cut off by Kirishima. You back away from the podium and take a seat as he speaks

“Yes thank you for being here and I hope Y/n here was able to clear things up.” He turns his back to the podium and walks over to you. As you see him walk over to you you stand up and walk along side him to enter the building.

You ignore the press and pap as they shout out questions and make your way up to Kirishima’s office. You sit in his chair as he enters and pouts,

“Babe- you’re in my seat”

You make him feel guilty with your words, “oh...okay then,,, I’ll just stand here... pregnant.... without a seat.” You look at him and watch him stutter out, “OH MY GOD y/n, I’m so sorry baby no- no don’t get up. Stay seated. I forgot you were pregnant.” You laugh at him and speak, “Kiri how the hell can you forget I’m growing huge as the days go by? Anyways I have to go now, Mina wants to meet up to talk about the baby shower” You get up and kiss him goodbye, “I’ll see you soon kiri-babe”

“See you soon babe”

You walk out and head to the cafe you’re supposed to meet up with mina. When you arrive you see her waving at you excitedly.

“Y/N!” You smile at her and walk towards her. Before you can even sit down she begins talking about the baby shower and how it will take place during mid day. She had everything ready to go. How she planned it in less than 24 hours is shocking. But hey, its mina we are talking about. She tells you the day it will be on, which is a week from today. She even made a virtual invitation and a group chat for the invited. You thank her so many times and all she does is say

“If you want to show your gratitude, just make me the god mother of your baby!”

my opinions on morgwen:

I LOVE IT SO MUCH. I SHIP IT WITH MY WHOLE ASS SOUL. dude, their potential as a ship is incredible😭i fucking love them together. i wrote them as a side pairing in my first multi-chapter merthur fic and i adored writing their interactions and dynamic sm. if morgana was going to be with anyone, my first choice will always be gwen. i also read them as a pairing in fics all the time because the pure power-couple potential is insane.

hot ☕️ here™️: i think if someone was to bring morgana back from the brink of hatred, it should have been gwen (not merlin). so, like, i could definitely see merlin telling her about his magic and whatnot and maybe that would have stopped her from going dark side...but...i didn’t think merlin should have (ekk probably an unpopular opinion).

see, i love merlin with my entire heart..and tbh telling uther fucking pendragon’s ward that he had magic was just too much of a gamble—especially with arthur’s life on the line, which literally became merlin’s sole purpose in life (another matter for a different essay™️). i understand his need to keep it a secret from her even more when the large reptile repeatedly got into merlin’s head that she was bad news from the jump (also another matter for a different essay™️).

SO. that leaves two options for our miserable magical gal: arthur or gwen. now, i honestly believe arthur wouldn’t have hurt her if he was told. and i even think he may have became more sympathetic to the magical community because of it—especially when he saved mordred wayyyy early on that cemented the fact that arthur was not uther. but i can also understand why morgana wouldn’t tell arthur, and it’s pretty much the same reason merlin didn’t tell her about his magic: the risk was too big and she didn’t want to gamble her life with an unknown reaction.

now we get to the main point: gwen would have been the best option for her. whether it is platonic or not, gwen was always there for morgana. gwen is such a kind, loving soul, and she deeply respected and adored morgana—you can tell by the way she smiled around her in the beginning seasons, how she would get her flowers, how she would worry about morgana’s wellbeing. even though gwen was morgana’s servant, she cared for her in more ways than were required and it showed. they were best friends. the entire incident with gwen’s father, which was horrendous, might be the reason gwen would be rightfully upset about the subject of magic; however. she knew her father wasn’t magical, she knew uther was a tyrant, and she knew morgana’s heart. someone is gonna tell me that if morgana had explained to gwen what happened, how her magic was innate, how morgana would never fucking choose to have magic anywhere near her shithead guardian (who probably would have killed her imo if he knew bc you know the whole “fire will purify” bullshit), that gwen would hate her??? I MEAN LITERALLY WATCH THE LAST EPISODES AGAIN. when QUEEN GWEN realizes that the whole time it was merlin saving everyone’s asses, and she connected all the dots, her face showed nothing but pure understanding and acceptance.

gwen was such an underused character. her fucking potential arcs could have been phenomenal (again, LOL, another matter for a different essay™️), and the way canon made morgana use gwen was fucking gross and im not a fan🙃 but fuck canon. i ship them and i love them to pieces ✌🏻thank you for coming to my talk✌🏻

my opinions on manon mf blackbeak:

oh boy, where do i start? i would die for her...is that too extreme for the starting place? i fucking LOVE manon blackbeak dude. oh my god, so, remember when her and aelin fought for the first time in QoS? i remember jumping up from my lounging position with my hand over my smiling mouth because i love both of these badass hardcore women with everything i am. i mean, aelin owns my ass (she is probably my favorite character of all time rn) but manon hits differently. her storyline at the beginning was so bleh, but, man, did it escalate fast to “holy shit” to “i fucking love her” to “oh fuck im sobbing.”

the only thing i will complain about with her character in canon was the fact that my girl was straight???? excuse me?? she has been alive for fucking forever and she is straight? no. i cant accept that. tbh i ship manon and elide🥺 (i also ship dorain and chaol oops). but her character development was everything and i cant think too long on what happens because i will start crying tbh sksjsmakks
