Todays rip: 29/02/2024
my rip :)
Season 5 Featured on: SiIvaGunner's Highest Quality Rips: Volume GS
Ripped by brubsby
youtube
Requested by Memmy! (Request Form)
Hey, it's February 29th, the Leap Year day! The strangest day on the calendar, I realize, ought to be celebrated with a bit of a strange rip to go along with it, and there was certainly plenty to pick from. The channel has seen its share silly rips like :D, utterly unhinged rips like Sex - Steve Harvey, and everything bizarre other kind of weirdness out there like Mr. Rental [B Side] ~ Out of Options or waterwraith pokos. Yet what surprised me about my rip :) wasn't for being the most silly, or most chaotic, or what have you - but rather, for being an utmost perfect blend of all the above kinds of rips, whilst remaining shockingly listenable.
I mean, there's something eyebrow-raising about the rip's mere existence alone. A rip from PONG? As in, one of the first video games ever made, the one from 1972, which barely even had SOUND in it, let alone music? The channel's obviously tackled a number of strange cases of games to rip before, such as the ongoing Circus trend with Five Nights at Freddy's and rips like Chex Invaders, but there really was no precedent for what to expect with this rip before clicking on it - the only prior rip of PONG was a whopping 15 seconds intentionally playing off of how little audio the game has to begin with. How could my rip :) hope to make a relevant joke out of PONG worthy of 3 minutes of runtime?
The answer, as it turns out, was to just do every single thing at once.
It starts off so innocuously too: the joke of adding rapidly repeating PONG sounds of various pitch to form a discordant melody, similar to that of CrazyBus, is a pretty funny bit in of itself! Yet before that bit has had even the slightest time to register, it's joined by Space Jam's infamous backing beat, a source that I've only covered in a good light here through actually impressive rips like Hoopache and Mother, Father, TechnoMan, yet is most well known in the community for being perhaps the most overdone and easy-to-use mashup source of them all. Before THAT has time to settle in, it's joined by yet more infamous mashup sources: The Season 5 demons themselves Yankin and Astronaut in the Ocean of Epic Rap Battles of History: Funny vs. Funnier fame, Crank Dat Super Mario, Watch Me Whip/Nae Nae - and, to note in case you're not listening to the track yourself as you're reading, NONE of these sources ever sound as if they ever go away from the mix. What in its first seconds is nothing but isolated bloops of an ancient arcade machine becomes this absolute cocophany of noise and melodies, yet through some miracle (and skill on brubsby's part) they're guided along to still form some sort of melody.
All the noise is mainly guided by the use of Gangnam Style as a surprise source amidst all the rest, whose melody builds and builds toward its own climactic beat drop Gangnam Style, upon which everything goes silent for just a moment, approximately eight sources all fading at once...before exploding back onto the scene like an unstoppable mob. Its just keeps going like this - by the end, twelve different sources are all competing for attention. Or at least it sounds that way - I genuinely have no clue if some tracks get phased out as the rip progresses, but the rip's noisiness never appears to die down until the very end of its runtime.
Its just such a fun ride until the very end - my rip :) doesn't have any sort of guiding melody to it, no joke to fulfill or prior YTPMV/Mashup/etc its paying tribute to. The rip is pretty much as deep as its title frames it as, as just brubsby fucking around and finding out what can be done with all of these Season 5-infamous sources as the year drew to a close. In that sense its a fitting encapsulation of Season 5 as a whole, doesn't it? The one year where the direction of the channel felt rather aimless, yet not necessarily in a bad way: a lack of obligation to be tied to larger theming and colossal channel events resulted in some of the most unrestrained, individually-ambitious, and fun listens in the channel's entire life. I'm not quite sure if I'd call my rip :) a "banger", but it's the kind of rip that I can't help but respect for the sheer audacity of it alone.

-. wenzhe-core (pt. 1 oh god)
in response to the question 'you'd love your kids unconditionally no?': i don't even know those people yet. they just came out. they could be dicks for all i know
in response to a cis-straight white friend saying some awkward ignorant shit: your qi's all fucked bro, maybe we should kiss about it
in response to the WARRANTED question if he's bi, while visibly nervous: of course i'm a biped, is this about plato
in a conversation that had NOTHING to do with drag queens: on that note, i've been thinking, if a drag queen mugged me, i'd probably let her get away with it
wu zetian did nothing wrong by the way
i'm so glad it's your ben ming nian next year, like, fuck
uber? more like uberMENSCH, haha, nietzsche, amiright? ha....... no, i... uh. never went to oovoo javier, no
epic rap battles of history is NOT a good source just copy from wikipedia like everybody else does, like-
right after the previous one, in response to the question of how he recognized it was erb so fast, visibly sweating: what? i don't know what that is, sit down
in a lull in a group conversation after several moments of silence: y'know, i was thinking, if i wanted to kill my grandma, like, if i had to for some reason, i'd probably just have to cuss at her once, actually, but then my mother would kill me, so it's not worth it
aah~... i get it: the autistic swagger
people get way too worked up about c*nnibalism me thinks
a few moments before forgetting to salt a dish: recipes who go 'add salt' are stupid, of course i'll add salt, what would i not put salt into, BUT, then again, if a recipe doesn't say it, i will get confused, actually, so it's this whole thing, you know?
i wish getting upset would make me spit out blood the way it happens in wuxia's, it would add so much flair to my seasonal depression
apartment "complex"... really? i find it quite simple
"based"? based on what?
you're telling me a shrimp fried this rice?
road work ahead? uh, yeah, i sure hope it does
you're gonna look at me and you're gonna tell me that i'm wrong?!
odysseus is the biggest fucking-- plays 3d chess concocting up that whole 'nobody' ploy and then at first opportunity he just-- 'oh, and by the way? fuck you, signed, odysseus of ithaca' who does that
yeah, no, it was awful. yeah, yeah it killed 502 people, yeah... yeah, no it was... yeah it was awful... wanna hear more about it?
drinking a slushie: i just realized i don't like slushies- no, stop, i'm not throwing it away, are you insane? it cost Money
fuck pineapples, they eat you back
you know, the only reason we're apex predators is because we figured out how to make things that make killing others easier, that's all, really, our success in history, in the world, our supremacy over other species, it all comes down to us killing our way to the top, which is probably why we're killing each other now, we have no other beings to bury beneath us... are you gonna finish that, by the way?

Sorry i have an extremely urgent question, its vital you answer this
How is Pikachu connected to the declaration of independence?
Pikachu had a cameo in the Ash Ketchum vs Charles Darwin epic rap battle of history.
According to this wikipedia page: "It is purported that Thomas Jefferson drafted the United States Declaration of Independence in 1776 while sitting on a swivel chair of his own design."
According to this Irish Examiner article: "Darwin wanted a means to scoot across his workspace to his specimen cabinet without staggering to his feet. "
Charles Darwin was crucial in the development of the office chair cause he wanted wheels to roll around in, clearly. Also so relatable. Thomas Jefferson wanted to spin around in his chair. Both of these things, the spin and the wheels are part of modern office chairs. So this clearly means that Charles Darwin and Thomas Jefferson are connected through office chairs. Ash Ketchum is a rap nemesis of Darwin and Pikachu is Ash's buddy. In this essay, I will....
Unrelated but now I'm thinking about how insane a Pikachu and Thomas Jefferson fanfiction would be. I also realize I totally could've gone done a National Treasure rabbit hole, but nein.

Something i may or may not've mentioned in that "Doom fanbase analysis" post is whether or not some fans want Doom to be more popular and that correlating with how they take the fanbase's history/activities into account.
Specially in a "post Funko Pop/TBBT nerd" era.
Because it's important that people learn about certain things and there's also a point where not every piece of media needs to reach Star Wars/Pokemon levels of success or fame.
It may suck that DE lost against TLOU2 at the VGA's 2020 but knowing how people hate game journos and certain events, you have to question if it was even worth it.
As if you're asking for the approval from people who rate that one baby Wii game above God Hand.
Like how people already acknowledge that the film industry has its own corruptions, yet shout "animation is cinema" because they want to see animation being treated seriously at the Oscars (And it's always mainstream/corporate level animation, not something more unique or artistic for some reason).
Maybe it has to do with people looking into parodies or content from the likes of Dorkly or Robot Chicken and thinking "they need to do something about a thing i like" for some weird reason, when they could've looked into more genuine fan projects.
Doom was always popular but then there's also how people view it differently and all that mess i talked about.
Because there's also the clash of people that almost want Doom to be a "bigger brand" and that contrasting to people whose activities also make it seem like a "could've been public domain/free" entity.
Between Sakurai having a small talk about Doomguy in a Smash direct and Trent Reznor having associations with Quake due to "mutual fandom" with id, it can be neat seeing someone famous liking something even it they don't have to also care about the Cacowards or the latest source port update.
But it won't change the fact that certain fanbase activities may matter more than if Chris Pratt talks about how he spent years slaying Marauders in the original Doom while getting a role to play Doomguy in a Doom movie.
(Yes current/meme example, i know)
Another thing is what more popular franchises do to remind you of their mainstream status.
Like Call of Duty trying to be Fortnite and adding The Boys or Nikki Minaj, since it's a series that was always for mass audiences.
There are dedicated COD fans and even those that care about specific games or modding but Activision doesn't even consider them at all.
Why? Because it's a series that they see it as existing for the same of yearly releases and money.
ZeniMax/Bethesda occasionally get greedy when using Doom but even if you take away the wad/mod scene, you still get the idea of a dedicated fan image that would get mad at certain things.
Maybe that's why Mick Gordon said "Doom fans aren't like Disney fans, you piss them off and they'll burn down your house" or something.
And a bit of a "cursed" thought: What if Epic Rap Battles of History does like a "Doomguy vs Isabelle" video?
Would people care if they add specific Doom references as opposed to basic stuff like "rip and tear" and Daisy?
Or would they just be fine simply seeing Doom in the spotlight, even in that manner?

Mr. PACs ~ Obamjo-Roomnie
Season 4 Episode 2 No Album Release (Read More) Mr. Patch (Rare Replay) - Banjo-Tooie
Ripped by Mitchell
youtube
Sorry everyone - I won't be putting up exclusively holiday cheer this month. I tried, I really tried, but I couldn't resist. The power of an excellent YTPMV is simply too strong, and with Mr. PACs ~ Obamjo-Roomnie, that power was amplified through the use of one of my all-time favorite sources: Epic Rap Battles of History.
There's a good number of YouTube channels that truly encapsulate the growing years of YouTube - Smosh, RayWilliamJohnson, Machinima, the works. Yet ERB is one of the most fondly remembered parts of that old age, partly for just how insanely well produced their videos have always been. Epic Rap Battles of History are exactly what they say on the tin, and their output of super well-made, if occasionally dated, rap battles is ingrained into the minds of many once-young YouTube viewers like myself. Hell, they're even still going today - they released another excellent rap battle just yesterday! So picture my absolute joy upon the start of Season 4 Episode 2, seeing a rip from Banjo-Tooie in my subscription feed, and all of a sudden realizing that Barack Obama vs Mitt Romney - one of the channel's all-time classic - was rising in popularity as a source for YTPMVs!
I feel like part of what makes ERB videos age so well is the sheer timelessness of well-done parody - there's nothing quite like an announcer loudly introducing "BARACK OBAMA!!" while the footage shows an insanely well done actor portraying the guy whilst absolutely breaking it down on the dancefloor. The announcer's booming voice samples are the main thing sampled in Mr. PACs ~ Obamjo-Roomnie, yet paired with the visuals it manages to feel like a tribute to the original ERB video as a whole. There is also some breaks present that incorporate more elements - I love at 0:20, when the original Mr. Patch becomes more bass-led than led by its main instruments, the rip features a part from the original ERB video part of a similar break in pace - Mitt Romney's ramblings on Obama's fate.
Its an excellently made YTPMV in general, and got me diving down the rabbithole of further non-SiIva YTPMVs of the same source - many of which were excellent just as well, yet few felt as well-balanced and put together as Mr. PACs ~ Obamjo-Roomnie. Granted, that may be partially due to Mr. Patch being an incredible source for YTPMVs to begin with - yet its evident Mitchell put in far more effort than he truly had to in order to bring this rip to fruition. Short and sweet as it may be, Mr. PACs ~ Obamjo-Roomnie is the kind of rip that never fails to cheer me up, a condensed dosage of pure funny.
