hey y’all, i’m audrey jensen from scream the tv series, and im really desperate for source/canonmates? i’ve made a separate acc just for this because everyone’s so hard to find.

feeling nuts ok so i was looking at the full page of that High School Drag interview after um going thru the 5 stages of decomposition over it and i recognized one of gerard’s other answers (about people grabbing their package) as identical to something they said in a much older interview so i was like oh are we pulling quotes from other things here? can i Search the Web and find the og source for what he said about doing drag? so i DID and i found each sentence of his answer, which i bolded, within larger quotes from completely different places, like:

“I like to think of it as a cry for help trapped in a pop song...When I was writing it, I was remembering how hard it was to be a 16-year-old in high school. I always wanted to be an artist, so I was this loner kid who just got drunk all the time. I only had one real friend. There was a girl I really liked, and she ended up taking really sleazy photographs with her boyfriend, and that really crushed me...I was just swimming in this pit of despair, jealousy and alcoholism.” (June 23, 2004 from mtv archive)

“I went to school in drag, in art school and my day was completely different because everybody thought I was a chick.” (we all know this one, earliest place i found it was here from 2003ish but i think the site’s broken now)

“You’re going to come across shitty bands and a lot of shitty people. And if any one of those people call you names because of what you look like or they don’t accept you for who you are, I want you to look right at that motherfucker, stick up your middle finger, and scream ‘Fuck you!’” (found this in a bunch of places, the earliest so far being Oct 22, 2006 on imnotokay.net where it’s listed as an “old article”)

for reference again the lad mag interview goes like:

“How did you find high school? Hard. I always wanted to be an artist, so I was this loner kid who just got drunk all the time. I only had one real friend. 

In what ways were you a loner? I went to school in drag. People call you names because of what you look like, because they don't accept who you are.”

so this has me thinking that at least this portion of the interview is entirely collaged together, with the context abt high school for the second answer basically fabricated? idk how common a practice this is in like. music journalism but LAD Mag (which this is from) was a magazine that came with copies of Sugar for free, so maybe the standards were different OR SOMETHING. idk maybe gerard just happened to repeat himself here. i want to believe in high school drag. but also their history with gender is important to meeeee and i want to make sure i am not consuming Fake Info about it !!!!

Now for a mini history lesson, the Emo I’m going to be referring to today was popular from the late 90s to late 2000s and into the 2010s

This means heavy black eyeliner, hair that defied gravity, neckties being used as anything but neckties

Black with hints of accent colors such as, but not limited too, pinks, orange, white, etc.

The days when TRL and MTV were the way to “stream” new music and hot topic was the source of all band t-shirts

Now that I’ve covered a small history lesson, let’s strap in shall we!

So get your check board belts and fingerless gloves ready kids!

Because it’s time to get EMOtional 😂

N E Ways- let’s just say, you classified yourself as an “Emo kid”

It wasn’t super unheard of to be different fashionably in school but you, well you were definitely a sight

Your hair was teased to the rafters, bows of every color along with skulls littered your hair

Your eye liner was the blackest black, and you skin looked like you hadn’t seen sun in decades 😅

You wore fishnet tights with vans or perhaps another skateboarding shoe

You looked pretty intimidating to most people who didn’t know you

I mean, your style doesn’t exactly scream approachable

However, the people who did know you, knew that your style of “dark and brooding” didn’t measure up AT ALL to your personality

You were a complete sunshine ☀️

A literal sweetheart and absolute Angel!

Unfortunately a lot of kids didn’t get to know you ☹️

But luckily, there was one guy who didn’t care about looks

He really didn’t care about much actually 👀

And that happened to be our favorite setter Kenma!

Because Kenma honestly does not care about looks or superficial things like that

Actually, when you first got teamed up with Kenma to work on a project, a lot of kids thought it was a strange combo

But somehow, you two managed to make it work and in fact, you got the best grade in the class

After that, you and Kenma became partners for every project

There was just something he enjoyed about you

Probably your weird similarity to Hinata honestly 😏

Soon you and Kenma started hanging out after school

You both loved video games as well as had similar styles in music

Look at me and tell me Kenma wouldn’t be into Emo rock 👁️👄👁️

Fall out boy, Paramore, Taking Back Sunday, THE USED!!!!

Anyways, soon Kuroo joins and he’s confused about your friendship with Kenma

Like you and Kenma are complete opposites but you get along super well

Eventually Kuroo starts taking a liking to you as well

Kuroo has natural Emo hair so it’s fate 💅

Kuroo soon figures out why Kenma enjoys your company as you are a literal dark ball of sunshine

Eventually you start accompanying out kitty cats to practice in order to hang out with Kuroo and Kenma

Upon entering the gym, everyone stares at you

You low key kinda scare the first years, Inuoka and Shibayama

Yaku and Kai are super interested as in why you are there

Yamamoto is just dead because there’s a girl in the gym 🙄

And Lev, well Lev can’t keep his mouth shut

“Hey you’re that weird chick that wears black and has crazy hair. I’ve heard a lot about you!” Lev screams

Yaku please 😌

“LEV SHUT UP!” Kuroo yells as Yaku kicks him

You just giggle, a sound nobody was expecting, as you say, “I’m Yn! I guess I kind of do get a little bit of a reputation but I promise, I’m not evil or something!”

“She’s actually kind of cute in a different way,” Kai says as Fukunaga and Yaku nodd in agreement.

Soon, you are coming to every practice and helping where you can

Setting up chairs, filling water balls, handing out towels

The boys quickly adore you and soon you just naturally become apart of the team

Kuroo officially asks you the teams manager which you gladly accept

It’s hard finding a club with your specific tastes and since you could still express your style and personality, volleyball club seemed perfect!

You enjoyed playing music, listening to music and writing which were all supported by Nekoma

Our progressive Kings 👑

Honestly they were so supportive of their Emo scene queen!

They loved when you added little touches of red to your outfits and even made a hair bow that specifically said “Nekoma” on it 🥹

Of course, they were still boys so they all found you super cute and adorable

Yamamoto was your personal body guard for everything

It didn’t matter what, he always walked you to every class and if anyone made any comments about you, he would challenge them to a “rumble”

Language you later learned, was picked up from Karasuno 🙄

You had heard about Karasuno and you were honestly so excited to meet them!

Kenma had told you about Karasuno’s tiny middle blocker

On the way to training camp, our sweet boys let you play the music

Honestly Coach Nekomata was way into it 😂

He was such a hip coach and he knew you kids were into some weird stuff

Please he was too 🤚🏻

Anyways, he’s just happy you bring so much joy to the team

And honestly you match Nekoma’s cat-like mysterious vibes

So when you showed up, the other teams just kind of stared at you

Obviously you kinda stood out like a sore thumb Yn, sorry to say

But don’t worry, Yamamoto is on the case 🫡

“WHAT ARE YOU STARING AT? HAVENT UOU EVEN SEEN A GORGEOUS GIRL BEFORE?!?” He screams

Yaku 👉🏻 YAMAMOTO STOP BEING AN IDIOT

You just roll your eyes and smile, bowing to the teams and greeting them

Almost instantly, they melted 🥰

Because like how are you both adorable and scary???

“Come on Yn, let’s go,” Kenma says as you wave and walk away

Eventually you get introduced to all the teams, including Karasuno

You end up making eye contact with Hinata several times as he observes you

Finally, he makes his move

“Hi there! I really like your style! I see your friends with Kenma and the pretty girl manager for Nekoma! I’m Shoyo Hinata and I’m a middle blocker!” He shouts

You smile back and greet him, “Kenma had told me so much about you! It’s so great time finally meet you!”

Kuroo and Daichi watch you both and shake their heads

“Boy short stuff really can make friends with anyone can’t he?”

“You new manager looks super sweet and outgoing, albeit a little interesting,” Daichi says as Kuroo nods

Soon you and Hinata, and by consequence Bokuto, become besties

Honestly you really enjoy hanging out with Akaashi but we won’t tell Bokuto that 😶

You share your knowledge as well as your unique style of cheering with the boys

You wrote cute little cheers and even inspirational poetry to share with the boys

Bokuto and Hinata loved your fancy words : D

And even when Bokuto went into his own Emo modes, the teams knew exactly who to call!

Mistletoe and Mishigas by MA Wardell - I know this is not a visual medium so just imagine me rubbing my eyes and sighing extremely heavily. (1000% on me because I sought out something I knew I'd hate because I needed to channel my anxious energy to something. Also doing these lil writeups has made me realize how often I read something specifically because I'm anxious. Humiliating but unfortunately for all of us, true.)

The fine:

Passing Strange by Ellen Klages - this was so average I almost forgot what it was about. Would have made a much better short story!

Iris Kelly Doesn't Date by Ashley Herring Blake - idk man. There's some stuff I loved in here and some stuff I didn't love but it's what I come to expect from romance novels which are (for me) average at best

Station Island by Seamus Heaney - king, this was not your fault, I am just too stupid to understand a lot of the historical and geographical references you made so it was hard for me to follow. It's me, not you!

The good:

Hyperboreal by Joan Naviyuk Kane - this was so beautiful and sparse and reminded me why I have always been so obsessed with the Arctic.

The Employees by Olga Ravn - strange and foreboding and told in a very interesting format!

Bliss Montage by Ling Ma - I like my short stories weird and emotional and she delivered. Could've been a little weirder but still very good!

Out There Screaming edited by Jordan Peele - There's a story in here about a girl who steals her (ex)boyfriend's actual heart out of his body so he'll love her again and I just think that's fantastic.

A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers - a reread that is honestly gonna be a forever favorite, though I do prefer the second one over this one!

Welcome to St. Hell by Lewis Hancox - I kept seeing this around and had zero interest in reading it until I saw an interview with the author saying a major source of his gender affirmation as a child was MTV's Jackass, at which point I checked to see if my library had it. Extremely funny and sweet.

The Solace of Open Spaces by Gretel Ehrlich - I identified a little too closely with the surly cowboys and sheepherders who went months without speaking to anyone which I don't know how to feel about.

Hiiii, I’m Baaaaaaack, it’s beeen a looooong time cooooomingggggg after 237 days I’m back here and I can say:

I survived #MexicoCityTheErasTour night two 🥰

Made 144 Friendship bracelets, the majority were for swifties who couldn’t make them or the team and a lot to change (just like 50) ❤️

I remember the first time I saw her, watching Hannah Montana movie, i was 8 or 9, i remember look at her and think she was like a delicate princess or a beautiful little doll and then saw her on mtv with love story confirmed it, also our song and YBWM watching MTV

What else I can say… the eras tour were all I ever wish since I was a little 11 year old kid, now eleven years ago one of my biggest dreams was: me going to The Red Tour see Taylor, sing all the songs with her, get the State Of Grace hat, a lot of heart ❤️ confeti and I couldn’t… sadly. Then the same thing happen on the 1989WT (my 13 year old girl was on the floor) even if I had the hope of her coming but it ain’t happend, And same with Reputation ST, but I was old enough to accepted (16 yog), to lover fest i was happy for her on tour we know what’s next.

Andddd now in The Eras Tour i was happy when the post came on, just USA and feel completely exited to see how this tour was going to be but the “international dates to be announced as soon as we can” made me keep a light of hope, something in me though that I can finally se her, but I had to stay calm, just in case…

And got crazy when the Latin American dates came out, there were sources saying that she was going to announced at 6:00 AM so I wake up just in case, then go back to sleep again, 9:00 (I think) Taylor Nation Tweeted something about the world, well I wake up again and wait with my heart in hands and then finally announced, I won’t lie I scream loudly as I could, I cryyy a lot, my hands were shaking and couldn’t belive it was real… until I realized Taylor was coming to Mexico, Taylor was coming to my country, I can not possibly be that happy… then think I would die if I don’t get a ticket to see her.

The process was hard and very anxious, I think I never been this anxious not even in the university exam, well I pray every night to get the code email sadly I don’t buuuut my sister get it and i couldn’t belive it, I was a step to the night of my dreams. Then the presale day I pray a lot to get in the line at good time so i can get the tickets and I did 🥹🥹 my hands were shaking so I could get tickets behind it all well not that far but close, I didn’t care happiness wasn’t enough to describe the meaning to see her.

And I put my best outfit (that don’t fit very well and I panic), very similar at the pink bodysuit of 1989 didn’t have time to draw the 13 sadly or do my nails :( but i made my best hair and makeup as possible, this was going to be my best night. 🥰

Saw Sabrina burning the stage at that time I learn some songs (Sabrina please come back I know all of your songs now) and captivated me more definitely.

Then the clock 🕰️ I was on shock so I started to cry very hard, I mean I wait 10 years for that moment, so when she came out I started screaming really loud, screaming and singing the songs, I dance so hard and have a nice night, really nice night.

So the show started, I lost my mind, I really dance, how can I explain it, I couldn’t believe we were in the same room at the same time 💙 even if I can’t see her really well (I hope next time be closer), anyway.

A dream come true to me, was the best night ever!!! I really had a really cool time, made the cruel summer bridge, the 🫶🏻 on fearless, sorcery things at Willow, i sing 22 before turning 22 with Taylor (even if I couldn’t get the 22 hat), singing it’s supposed to be fun turning 21 at 21, then saw her coming with the green folklore dress and the sparkly evermore one, like those are my favorites, then Taylor and I twining clothes in the 1989 set, I’m really going to say I feel like home, like a safe space with swifties were you fell free to be yourself, and that’s it Taylor singing for us and us singing with her, everybody screaming Va a reputar haha, I was jumping all YBWM, in Marjorie I flash three times to tell her I love you (hope she saw it). Cry all the Long live song, I love her so much.

At one moment Taylor said she saw us dancing and saw her soo happy melt my heart and give me the best to keeep dancing even if my mouth was tired.

Sadly at some points I was so exited so I don’t remember All Too Well but I carry the feelings if that night with me all the time.

It’s been 237 days and I can’t find the right words to describe this, but the best feeling is watching these videos I took knowing I was there and getting emotional and cry again. I’ve never been good expressing my feelings that’s one of the reasons why I made a click with Taylor, She expresses how I feel sometimes and made the things clear to me.

Taylor has a lot of meanings in my life, she’s one of the most important people in my life, we had been together for 11 years and more now, she’s been one of my biggest support in life, she’s been singing for me when I cried until I fall sleep in middle school/high school and those nights, she’s been with me in my happiest moments to my depressive ones even when nobody can heard my voice.

All my life people get laugh of me for being a fangirl and do fangirl things, I never had a swiftie friend (I hope had one someday) but to me Taylor is my best friend and sometimes I think she understands me even if she don’t know I exist (hope some day meet her) and thank her for everything tell her how much I’m proud of her (I think she knows)

She’s been with me this 11 years and I have a special moment for every era at every circle of my life, an specific timeline that I will always remember listening her songs 💗

A Mad Genius' Lament

DISCLAIMER: I want to say, from the start, that the following read is not an endorsement or glorification of an individual that is currently under investigation for very serious offenses. Matters like this are not to be taken lightly or to be dismissed. I want to acknowledge and recognize not only the victims in the recent allegations of the former chairman of the WWE, but I also offer my sincerest apologies to all those involved. This blog is not taking sides in any matter nor downplaying the situation. No matter the outcome, I hope justice is served and a resolution is found in this matter. If you are someone that is involved with this situation or know the individuals involved or are triggered by the subject at hand, either read at your own discretion or please stop reading now.

Imagine if you will: it's Monday night in February of 1999. You're a young teen that just finished their homework, washed the dishes, took out the trash and got yourself comfortable for a night in. All the grown ups are off to bed or they're having adult time or they're chatting on the phone with friends & family. You plop down on the couch, with your favorite beverage and some snacks, grab the remote and turn to the USA Network.

Law & Order reruns have just gone off the air & you see a red-letter promo cut in, with smoke & explosions in the background. You turn the volume down so you don't disturb anyone with the sound of a distorted electric guitar that's viciously cranking out the nu-metal-esque theme song. The show's name: Monday Night Raw. The company? World Wrestling Entertainment.

The program begins and you are treated to a 2-hour sports entertainment show featuring unlikely wrestling gimmicks that look like they belong in an 1970's exploitation film: a pimp, a "Jon Holmes"-pornstar wannabe, a group of wrestling vampires that drink fake blood from a gold-plated chalis and a sociopath walking out to a screaming crowd while holding a mannequin's head with the letters "Help Me!" written across the front. Yes, this is the pro wrestling I witnessed in my high school years. As cringeworthy and inappropriate as it was, it was also the best 2 hours of television I've ever watched in my life.

I know that sounds completely insane, but to be fair, it was early 1999. Television as a whole wasn't exactly at its best. Sitcoms were becoming a dying art, hour-long drama shows such as E.R. and Law & Order dominated the primetime spotlight, The Sopranos had yet to debut until later that year, Saturday morning cartoons were on their way out, TGIF on ABC was officially dead, and the only thing even close to entertaining was sporting events from my favorite leagues, adult animated shows on FOX, and whatever MTV and BET could get away with. Out of everything mentioned, primetime pro wrestling, more specifically, WWE Monday Night Raw, was the saving grace at this point.

A show that saw a pimp, a pornstar wannabe, a fake vampire and a grown man walking around with a mannequin's head with the words "Help Me!" written across the front, body slam & toss each other from one side of the ring to the other. Who was responsible, you ask? A former pro-wrestling announcer, who was the son of a wrestling & boxing promoter that started an unlikely pro wrestling company straight out of South Yarmouth, Massachusetts then later relocated to Stamford, Connecticut. His name is Vince McMahon.

Vince McMahon is currently the subject of an investigation by the WWE Board of Directors after allegedly paying millions of dollars to former employees in order to keep affairs and alleged sexual misconduct quiet. News of the investigation first dropped via a report from The Wall Street Journal on June 15, but the sequence of events leading up to the investigation goes as far back as 2005 and results in more than $12 million getting paid out. 

Vince McMahon has served as CEO of WWE since 2009, when his wife Linda McMahon resigned from the position to pursue political office. Meanwhile, Stephanie McMahon has been involved with the WWE as both on-air talent and as a corporate executive, most recently serving as the WWE's chief brand officer before rather unexpectedly taking a leave of absence from her role earlier this year. 

In a statement by Mr. McMahon, on social media, "As I approach 77 years old, I feel it's time for me to retire as Chairman and CEO of WWE. Throughout the years, it's been a privilege to help WWE bring you joy, inspire you, thrill you, surprise you, and always entertain you. I would like to thank my family for mightily contributing to our success, and I would also like to thank all of our past and present Superstars and employees for their dedication and passion for our brand. Most importantly, I would like to thank our fans for allowing us into your homes every week and being your choice of entertainment. I hold the deepest appreciation and admiration for our generations of fans all over the world who have liked, currently like, and sometimes even love our form of Sports Entertainment. While I do not condone the actions of this man or fully know the matters at hand that went on behind closed doors, I took time to look back at the ingenuity, entrepreneurial risks, and the creative genius behind what I watched as a 4 year old boy up until my college years and ask myself, "How did this man do it?"

My top 3 memories I do take from this mad genius is the following:

-The Montreal Screwjob. This was an infamous, unscripted incident that took place at the Survivor Series pay-per-view event on November 9, 1997 in Montreal, Canada. Vince McMahon and his creative writing team manipulated the outcome of the match between Bret Hart, the reigning WWE Champion, and Shawn Michaels. The manipulation involved a "shoot screwjob", meaning that a change in outcome had occurred without Hart's knowledge and as a result he lost the title to his rival, Shawn Michaels, in his last WWE match before departing for rival promotion World Championship Wrestling. This incident not only helped to kick in the branded "Attitude"-era of the WWE, where the storylines grew more over-the-top & created the evil boss persona of Vince McMahon, but it is still the most debated and talked about incident in pro-wrestling history.

-The Austin-McMahon rivalry. This was more than just a blue collar vs. white collar feud or a wealthy northern blue blood vs. a southern redneck feud. This was a classic clash of egos, battling for control of the squared circle. Let's be honest, how many times have we all wanted to flip off our boss or supervisor at work or punch 'em in the face or hit them with a wrestling move, such as the stone cold stunner? McMahon and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin brought that image to life. Not only was it shocking and captivating but it was down right hilarious as well.

-The "Sports Entertainment" interview. Now, this is probably the key aspect that took pro-wrestling over the top and, in my opinion, sealed McMahon's legacy. In a televised interview with BBC in 1985, McMahon talked about the national expansion of the WWE brand and how his company was in the "sports entertainment" business. In case you don't get it, here's a explanation. For a long time, there was a time-honored tradition that wrestlers did not break the 4th wall, meaning, they stayed in character and did not discuss the secrets of how shows or events were put together. It was the basis of the illusion of what made pro-wrestling not only entertaining but profitable. That sense of showmanship and salesmanship is still a big part of keeping the audience engaged. In the early 80's, unfortunately, a few wrestlers broke from that tradition and began exposing the illusion of what took place backstage, such as pre-determined outcomes of certain matches, how storylines are formed and how wrestling moves were performed. Many promoters & owners began to lose their audience and money, as the subject of whether pro-wrestling was real or fake began to surface. There was also mounting legal trouble for the industry because of this. To save the business, Vince McMahon cleverly went on the air and stated that pro-wrestling was "sports entertainment", meaning, while storylines were pre-determined for marketing purposes and event outcomes were discussed behind closed doors, every other aspect does involve the wrestlers showcasing amazing athletic ability and competition. Although I cannot speak for the wrestlers and the companies that this affected, I will say that out of everything Vince McMahon has done for the pro-wrestling business, this was probably the most underrated power move he ever pulled off.

Seriously, how did this man not only pull off unbelievable spectacles on primetime television but get away with some of the most overly-dramatic, controversial, cringe-worthy plotlines during primetime television while showcasing grit, strength and pure athleticism? Hate him or love him, this man took an obscure, sleazy sport only seen in bars, fishing docks and back alleys and transformed it into a semi-artistic, billion dollar, multimedia empire that many wrestling promotions are still trying to duplicate to this day.

His legacy is complicated, but without McMahon's risks and understanding of the sports entertainment industry, pro-wrestling would still be an obscure afterthought, many promotions wouldn't have survived and people like Hulk Hogan, The Rock, John Cena, Macho Man Randy Savage, The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar wouldn't be household names, let alone be in the pop culture conversation. If I may so boldy state also, events like the first Wrestlemania, The Montreal Screwjob, the ECW/WCW Invasion, the 1998 Hell in a Cell match and the 2011 infamous pipebomb incident wouldn't even be talked about or debated if it wasn't for McMahon.
