Blog News in the wake of social media nonnsense

I haven't been super active on tumblr on this account and I never really got around to posting to my art blog (now @splitgillstudio-oldblog) but someone pointed out that tumblr runs best when you are an active member of the things you love. So I'm going to start putting my art here as well as the things that bring me joy and inspiration. I am slightly more active over at @sgstoybox (BJDs and other dolls) but hopefully you'll see an uptick in things on this blog too!

Smote is a nonbinary creator with a love of axolotls, plants, and tea! Tamago, their first axolotl, has five branched gills on his left side which inspired the name for SplitGillStudio. Their cat, Nimbus, has polydactyly with a total of 24 toe-beans to squish.

Maker to maker I need to give a HUGE shoutout to @waverlylongstudios who (perhaps unbeknowingly) kickstarted me actually starting up SplitGillStudio! I got this heckin adorable mushroom mug and was inspired to draw it! I thought it would make cute stickers so I sent some to Waverly and had such a blast doing it that I kinda kept going! The mushroomlotls had been on my mind but this was the push I needed to actually /really/ look into making them. TL;DR I hope all makers out there continue to inspire one another and just know that your work has probably inspired someone too! WIP of that TikTok challenge thing where you draw a character based on:

- Fave color = Skin color

- Shirt color = Hair color

- Birthstone = Eye color

- Glasses/contacts? = Add an extra eye (or more)

Other things that I didn't include are

- If your fave animal has wings or horns, include them.

- If you wear earrings, include them.

Top right was my quick sketch of the prompt and then I started playing around with some new brushes.
