Limbo

Rot

Does my corpse rot

in some corner of your mind

stomach split open

maggots pouring out

Does it reassure you?

that you ate my heart

before the bugs could?

Some part of me defiled by you

and not nature?

Does the rot fill your head?

impossible to ignore

everything tinged with death

Do you wish you could bury me?

Or do you like it

you still have some of me

at least

rot still smells a little sweet

anyway

what wonder can you find among the trees

beauty hidden ‘neath verdant leaves

whispered tales etched in boughs of old

secrets sheltered in their gnarled fold

I’ve spoken to the wind, the rocks, the bees

they’ve told of wonder among the trees

I’ve heard of kings of nettle and bone

how they hunt, stalking the night alone

I’ve heard of plagues no man contracts

a sickness that turns all woods to black

I’ve heard of peasants who eternally rest

to feed another in the dance of death

I come to you, your cities, your towns

with a warning of a danger unbound

the wilds will march to demand their dues

ancient hunger will come for you

you may hide from the coming disease

cower in fear from the wonder among the trees

A spooky one today, probably owing to halloween. Or maybe not, unknown horrors lurking in the woods are a year round thing. I haven’t been posting much recently due to work getting rough but hopefully that’ll be over soon. To the few who remain, thank you, and have a wonderful day.

I started drawing and writing again a few months ago after 15+ years of hibernation, so I'm still pretty much learning but I thought I'd share this here anyway.
