Yep! Basically, your monthly listeners are break down in:

1) active audience: they listen to your music intentionally, they look up your profile or your albums or they listened to your songs they added to their private playlist in the last 28 days.

2) previously active audience: they were in your active audience but haven't intentionally listened to your music in the last 28 days.

3) programmed audience: People who only listen to your music through editorial playlist, discover, autoplay, weekly radio and other people playlist.

The teams of this artist that get super viral are probably paying Spotify to push their songs trough their editorial playlist and other tools so of course their gain millions of listeners but their failing to convert them to an active audience.

Then you have Louis who gets barely any industry promo and is probably still banned, so his monthly listeners are probably almost all in his active audience.

And that's the reason why he with only 2.5 m monthly listeners can sell more concert tickets than Addison Rae with her 15.5 monthly listeners.

I love this stuff. So cool. I wish we could see behind the curtain more often.

Ok so I'm gonna share w you some basic phonk subgenre info

The top of the tree is what is coined 'OG' phonk, and the earliest versions of this style are 1.) the production heavy and sample ridden tracks of artists like DJ Smokey

and 2.) The Memphis revival taking place by artists like SpaceghostPurpp & Lil Ugly mane

And then the offshoots that emerged in the mid 2010's were known as cloud/rare phonk which included many jazzy/funky samples emerging artists like Hymbeats (Rip) , Soudiere, & DJ YUNG VAMP

But late 2017 drift phonk emerged mostly from Russian YouTubers who posted car drifting videos and would trend huge numbers on YouTube/other Russian videos sites with producers who got their start making rare phonk but whose track went viral on TikTok/ig like ghostface playa and Pharmacist

Finally you have the final phase of the genre to today as far as the public knows because of two influential tracks by METAMORPHOSIS and Kordhell in a 4 on the floor dance rhythm with a hard slapping snare and aggressive sampling. This is often used interchangeably with drift phonk but has the significant difference of being dance music vs hip hop. I like to call it drift house.

Drift house is not really a widely accepted term but it makes sense to me lol. This is why people assume phonk is some aggressive house music and it has allowed that style overshadow the original in a massive way that Spotify editorial playlists were completely mislabeling music. Oh well! Lmfao

There's tons of other subgenres and whatnot I could go on and on for ages but this is kind of the public perception of the term and it's timeline I suppose

new song alert - happy ending feat sophie meiers has been out for a few days. Everyone has been so nice and supportive which means the world. I'm glad I have another chance at all of this. Yesterday was the big playlist day where you check to see if your song got on any spotify editorials (a cursed day for many artists). I've notoriously been really hard on myself and would take on a lot of stress with these things but I just realized, fuck it, a lot of people like the song regardless of whether it got on anything. I should focus on that instead. Acknowledgment from the music industry is not the end all be all. Not to mention it's likely gonna get 10k streams within a week which has not happened in a while!! Big things 4sure and a lot to be grateful for. So if anyone is reading this thank you. There's a lot more to come too. I have to log off because I'm finishing up the recording on some of the future stuff. bye
