My nice little car, the 2005 RAV4, has gone the way of all good things.
It never stopped running, but came back from a recent oil change with a bill of health that called for repairs worth more than double its trade-in value. So alas, that was that.
Speaking of trade-in value, I was offended on the RAV's behalf that the official number was $700. That was mostly down to high mileage - more than 217,000 - but it didn't help that the car had survived a bad encounter with a deer back in 2015. The deer was not so lucky.
In any case, I loved my little car for all 200,000 miles we rode around together, and spent its last few days taking photos of all of its funny little details, like the AC button with the paint completely worn off, and the strange odds and ends that have accumulated in nooks and crannies over the last 16 years.
The man who hauled the RAV away said that, as a high-mileage trade-in, it is headed for a wholesale auction and will probably end up at a dealership of the "Steve Says Yes!" persuasion. I like to think it will have a whole other life as somebody else's solid little car... but I was still sad to see it loaded on a truck.
My new car is a much newer RAV, because why mess with a good thing? Here's to another 200,000 miles.

Icons aren't always literal, they can convey a meaning that's deeper
one interprets it because St Christopher came from a race that was considered Barbaric
we know from the story that the saint was a very strong man who worships deities, but he later longed to worship a god that's the strongest
then long story short he met our LORD in the form of a child who is stronger than anything, then he repented
the saint was depicted as dog-headed human, why?
The name Barbarian to describe the uncivilized, is speculated to come from the noises dogs make (the barking dogs make) this can be because
dogs are the creatures closest to man, called man's best friend, dogs aren't foreign, yet foreign at the same time, so perhaps that's why Barbarians really are called Barbarians
the saint also acquired human (Roman) tongue to preached to the civilized and martyred, to make the saint dog-headed might've been used to emphasize how foreign he was and the significance of him acquiring he language used by the civilized, since it did make everyone to contemplate God's majesty

in other news, Peter Capaldi's album appeals to my musical taste rather wonderfully (actually reminds me of later years David Bowie an awful lot) and I am enjoying this both because the music is good and also because I fucking love Capaldi and it gives me such a high that our taste in music is similar
