Xehanort/Eraqus:

they had a divorce scene where xehanort blasted eraqus in the face with no remorse which permanently left a scar and in the novels when he sees xehanort again (who is literally lying and manipulating him in the given scene) eraqus like. tenderly and lovingly smiles and touches his scar like WHAT

First of all. Eraqus is going gray but doesn’t look insanely old but as proof of age I’d like to say that he’s very close to Xehanort in age in Dark Road, the prequel in which they are teenagers, and Xehanort in the main time frame is extremely visibly old and was included in Retirement Home Rumble so Eraqus probably just aged extremely well. They’re trauma bonded through all their friends getting brutally murdered back when they were teens and the two of them were the only survivors (Dark Road was MESSED UP). I’m not sure if they entirely qualify only because they’re like the super divorced elder gays here but they’re definitely old men and definitely yaoi (noncanon but their end in KH3 was so so gay) so I’m submitting them anyway. Anyways the plot of Birth By Sleep was a weird divorce struggle between these two estranged lovers in which Xehanort manipulates Eraqus’ kids in a weird darkness plot because he went evil mode without his husband around to stop him. They have a decent amount of material being gay as their younger selves but that’s not what’s important here WHAT’S IMPORTANT HERE IS THE END OF KH3 when Xehanort’s evil plans were almost finished and then Eraqus appeared out of his basically-son Terra’s hair as a ghost. And talked it out like some kind of mid-battle relationship counseling. Then they put their arms around each other and Xehanort accepted defeat/death/whatever and they just??? faded into sparkles??? smiling at each other??? after like 11 games of buildup to this final battle??? They’re so Divorced Old Men Yaoi your honor

Eraqus worried that xehanort would fall to darkness, refusing to see that he already had. Xehanort pushed all his feelings away, trying to see eraqus only as a tool for his goals. Xehanort literally stabbed eraqus in the back, killing him. Eraqus forgives him.

Dollar Bin #1:

Joan Baez's Come from the Shadows

Joan Baez had a lot of options of where to go next in 1971.

She could elbow her way into the new female singer-songwriter space alongside Joni Mitchell, Sandy Denny and Carole King and kick some privileged male ass (Blue, The Northstar Grassman and the Ravens and Tapestry all came out in 71; Dylan and Young put out absolutely nothing).

She could shrug off that ridiculous challenge and compete with the blossoming Linda Ronstadt, turning songs by men into sexy, feminist anthems. Or she could play the dedicated wife to her jailed husband David. Finally, she could dump him and proudly sleep with strangers, all the while pining after Dylan.

Or she could just protest the damn war.

Come From The Shadows, which you can easily find in your local record store's dollar bin (that's what we will be doing in this blog: trolling through my hundreds of dollar bin records; thanks for reading!), has a cover which clearly announces that her priority is Protest.

Can you think of a less commercial and less self-promoting record cover? (I can: her husband David's painting of a funeral on her previous record, Blessed Are..., makes the cover of Self Portrait look like high art; the cover screams "don't buy me for kicks. I am an ugly bummer." Happily the double album is oddly full of light and joy.)

Come From The Shadows' cover photo of two elderly Vietnam protesters under arrest strikes a similarly confrontational tone, but this one isn't ugly. Instead, we know right off that we are either with Joan and her groovy octogenarian jailbirds, or we are pro-war. I'm obviously pro-Joan.

I wish I was in the room when this cover was discussed. Joe Salesperson must have choked on his pipe smoke while ordering a telegram that both begged and ordered Baez to put her pretty face on the cover instead. Somehow Baez had the chutzpah, clout and fierce determination to potentially doom her own record in the name of justice. And so we see these rain drenched hippies, who are matched on the reverse of the gatefold by a concise and angry essay from Joan herself, where she tells us, "in 1972 if you don't fight against a rotten thing you become a part of it." Sounds about right to me!

While we are at it, can you name one record cover by any other female artist before Court and Spark that does not focus on the woman's looks? (Damn, I just thought of one: Joni Mitchell's first record...). Anyway, Baez's cover (and the photo of her on the album's backside, in which she sports a reckless, can't be bothered haircut) manages to protest the war and female objectification at the same time.

But drop the needle on any battered, long-ignored, bargain bin copy of this record and everything gets way more complicated. Turns out that Baez had just about every goal possible in 1972, and all at the same time.

Prison Trilogy, the first track, is in keeping with her cover, as she protests the American prison system (not too surprising a topic given the fact that she'd married a guy, allegedly my mother's cousin's roommate at Stanford, who'd been in prison for refusing the draft). But Baez wrote it. Look out singer-songwriters, Joan's in the game! Songwriting wasn't entirely new for Baez; she'd written Song for David a few years before. But half the songs on this record are penned by Baez, by far her highest quota to date. None of her tracks here touch what Sandy, Joni or Carole had done in the preceding months, but they're all pretty good.

What's more, there's some weird stuff going on in her writing. She has a song about the crisis in Bangladesh and, as near as I can tell, she had nothing to do with George Harrison's male-centric benefit concert that had taken place at the end of 71. We know Stephen Stills was at that show, but was Joan? Stills, who doesn't belong as low down in Rock and Roll Hell as Mike Love but still shares the same zip code, spent the night of the Concert for Bangladesh backstage drunk and annoying everyone. He seems to have made that one of his specialties actually. Night of Hurricane found him demanding a whole room full of coke before he'd perform; and check him out in the bonus/rejected footage of The Last Waltz; it looks as though he is unaware of how one makes music. Anyway, was Baez riding the coattails of Harrison with her song about Bangladesh, or did she do this on her own and set the stage for the men to follow? Who knows!

Baez writes another song on this record that is straight-forwardly about sleeping around with some male stranger. There's nothing ambiguous about it; it's called Love Song to a Stranger and there's talk of him standing "nude by the mirror" while presenting her with a rose. A lovely image! I'll bet her husband would have loved hearing that one in the slammer. But he got out in 71, just before this came out, so I suppose she played it for him when he got home; hopefully the stranger had put on some pants by that point. I'm not passing any judgment here; it's a better approach than Clytemnestra took when Agamemnon walked in the door and I'm impressed with how bold and unapologetic Baez is here. We all know that non-males still get judged for being promiscuous while men still can get grinning props for the same thing. Happily, it turns out that Baez has been shouting at us from the dollar bin about this form of injustice for the past 51 years.

Growing up we had a copy of Diamonds and Rust, Baez huge hit record from a few years later. It was a relic of my mother's pre-motherhood life as a feminist who lived out the plot of 9 to 5 a full dozen years before that bizarro film was conceived. She also happened to have Kris Kristofferson as a cousin, which is endlessly cool. Anyway, the title track of Diamonds and Rust always struck me as a big deal because it's obviously written to and about Dylan, and it's intense. Well, it turns out Diamonds and Rust is the second (maybe there are more?) song Baez wrote directly to Dylan. Side 2 of Come From the Shadows keeps up her trend of obvious song naming; it's called To Bobby and it calls him out unambiguously for ditching The Movement to write songs about the man within himself whose ubiquitous brown coat appears on every cover instead of Joan's anti-war grandparents. Did Dylan listen to songs like this that are obviously about him? What was their conversation like when they next saw each other?

Bob: Hey Joanie, that's an intense song you wrote there. Who's it about?

Baez: You Bob. It's about you.

Bob: Gee wiz, Joanie. Just don't tell my wife, okay? I just wrote one called about you too. It's called Wigwam.

The songs on Come From The Shadows not written by Baez are an odd grab bag of moods. Baez out Ronstadts Linda by covering Imagine just an album after covering Let It Be. Both Baez covers are solid, with Baez sounding less strident than she can at times. But I'm guessing everyone on planet earth, including your great grandparents, had heard these tunes before Joan included them. We may scratch our heads at such obvious and seemingly redundant covers today, but keep in mind that for most of the listening public The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down was a song by Joan Baez.

Unlike Imagine and Let it Be, the album's very best track, Rainbow Road, didn't make its way into every progressive 70's summer camp songbook. My cool queer kids think it's a gay anthem - and it should be! Take a listen, and thanks for joining me in the Dollar Bin.

Twins Vs Triplets

Stanley was in the hospital, and Wendy just gave birth to triplets to the surprise of everyone, having twins was a tradition in the Pines family but Triplets? That’s another story.

 

Currently, The infant boy which got named Tyrone was in Dipper’s hands and the father looked like he was going to faint any moment, with the girl named Anna in Mabel’s hand who was ecstatic beyond words and the other named Avalon in the hands of the sat down Wendy on the bed.

 

“Yo Stan! Come and say hi to your Great-Nephew’s daughter!” the mother urged her Grunkle-in-law to come, once Ley hesitantly got the baby something happened which made his pupils grow big.

 

“ Guug-gaa.” the babe uttered, causing a storm of wholesomeness to take over Stanley looking at her with almost sparky eyes, for minutes he kept the baby in his hands as if he was afraid she would fall from his hands and crack to a million pieces like a glass jar.

 

“Stanley? It’s my time now.” His brother stepped in and gestured to him to give him the baby.

 

“NO!” he moved her to his chest in a protective hug “get your own infant to corrupt!” he hissed.

 

“It’s my time now Stanley! Fair and square!” Ford pressured his brother to give him the baby.

 

“Catch me if you can, nerd!” Stanley ran with the baby from the running Stanford, and just like that the history rhymes itself with the running Stanley with a baby away from another elder Pines just like when he first time saw Dipper and Mabel when they were infants and didn’t let Sherman to hold them because he was greedy as the wife and husband rolled their eyes with the aunt giggled at seeing the Grunkles making a fool out of themselves.

‘ What was I thinking?’ The same thought came into Stan and Ford’s minds, maybe agreeing to babysit Dipper and Mabel’s triplets wasn’t a very good idea, don’t get me wrong both elder twins loved the young Triplets; however, they as they learned can be a handful.

Stanford nearly suffered a heart attack as he looked in horror, nearly fulfilling Bil’s prophecy about his cause of death.

“Happy April’s fools old dinosaur! Have you scammed someone today?” Anna with a bugle greeted a woke-up Stanley.

 

“I’m both annoyed and proud at the same time,” he said, annoyed.

“HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!” Tyron in a white coat and black experiment goggles laughed maniacally because he used necromancy and forbidden science to bring the life to a dead frog with metallic antennas, patched body parts of various animals such as a chicken leg for its right leg, a crab arm for its left arm and bat wings and it currently was flying all over the living room. “I HAVE CREATED LIFE!”.

 

Older Pines twins were using a chair and a table to shield themselves from the rabid bat frog that was attacking them to give them vampire-zombies rabies.

Is it any wonder every time Wendy and Dipper weren’t in the house they hired or convinced someone to babysit the kids of their chaotic nature? The Stan twins came to this conclusion as they tried to find the young triplets in the garden.

 

“I swear these sassy kids will be the end of us.” Ford’s twin grumbled.

 

“I wonder if this is karmic justice for us Pines being a bunch of sassy trouble-seekers.” Stan’s twin wondered.

 

“Our family does have a trend of bringing trouble seekers, but these knuckleheads are even more of a rascal than any member of the Pines family in the history of our family tree!” The conman uttered in exasperation.

 

“Perhaps this is a genetic quirk which is only amplified thanks to the addition of the Corduroy genes.” The scientist hypothesized as he looked over a bush for the hidden rascals.

 

“Over here!” The duo looked over and saw smug girls up in a tree. “Oh, you little brats are soooo grounded for making us try to find you for an hour!” Ley pointed in accusation toward them who didn’t look even a bit intimidated.

 

“Stanley, wait, there are only the girls, where’s Tyrone?” Stanley’s brother was puzzled, before any of them had the chance to register the girls leaped from the top of the tree on the ground and started racing.

 

“Catch us if you can, old man!” a running Ava taunted.

 

“Don’t sass me young lady!” a chasing con artist responded to the sassy girl.

 

While the hustler was pursuing the puffed-haired child, the six-fingered man ran after the other Pines kid who pranced into a bush, The man of science now was left to solve the puzzle which is finding his target who kept showing her head out of the plant and goad him in grabbing him.

 

“Here!” from Left.

“Here!” from Middle.

 

“Here!” Right.

 

Annable kept popping her head from the bush and disappeared repeatedly with Ford trying to snatch her each time "Oh in the name of-" he was becoming tired so he just jumped into the bush only for the redhead girl to then jump out of the bush and ran away.

 

“Too slow!”

 

The multiversal traveler sighs deeply and comes out of the bush to follow her.

 

While Ford was busy running toward the pink shirt kid, Stan trying to look for the goggled girl with a withered hat, he stumbled upon a shadow behind a tree which prompted him to grin. “Oh, I wonder where that little twerp went? Maybe I should check the basement and- AHA!” He quickly moved behind the tree only to see a dummy made in a crude fashion of her with a note that said “‘I Outscammed ya!? No one out-scammed the scamp-scap-scar…!

 

"It's scammer." Ford corrected him as he was chasing.

 

"No one asked you for literature lessons!" He takes the note and violently smashes it in his fist in outrage and pride over the fact that he got out conned by the Pines kid.

 

“Nice sprinting, I just got warmed up!” Annable blew a raspberry at the now tired elder who kept chasing her circles. “My * breath* body * breaths* is not * breath * what it used to be…” the panting dimension hopper vocalized, years haven’t been kind to the elder Pines much on their body and stamina even though they used paranormal means to extent their lives.

 

“We just got started!” Avalon came and joined her partner in crime and went inside the house.

 

As the author of the journals was busy collecting himself, his sibling came and joined in. “Not any better chances huh?” he questioned breathing, “Oh this time they are not going to fool us!”- he clapped his hands together -”Come Poindexter! they are now inside the house, we will find them, come!” he gestured his twin to follow him to the inside of the home, there were no lights and everything was suspiciously dark.

 

“Now where is the switch to turn on the-” without any warning, every light in the house got lit up.

 

"SURPRISE!" The entire set of triplets greeted the startled Old men with glitters flying all over.

 

“What in tarnation…” once the ex-Mr Mystery’s eyes adjusted and left his hands away from his face, he saw a big sign from the roof which said ‘SURPRISE!’ in numerous colors with the trio in the living room welcoming him.

 

“What’s this now?” He looked confused.

 

“Isn't it obvious? It’s a surprise! Otherwise, why do you think we kept trying to keep you out of the house?” Ty informed them.

 

“But, our birthday is not today,” Fordsy noted.

 

“So what? That doesn’t mean we can’t do something nice for our favorite Great uncles!” Ava counteracted his point.

 

“Here, we made this together!” Anna responded and then gave them a present warped in red colors and white dolts with a golden ribbon. Stan and Ford at first looked suspicious, thinking this is just another prank until they opened the cover and found out that it was genuine, what they saw was a brown diary with glitters and labels written ‘Stanley and Stanford Pines: Our Heroes’ when they see inside of it they found images and pictures of them but younger from when they were kids, their older versions spending time with Mabel and Dipper across the years from when they were 12 years old till their graduation and their marriage to their respective spouses and finally it was them hanging out with the triplets and then a series of blankets which said 'Make new memories with us' in first of all blanket papers , the nostalgic hit the Old Pines hard and were touched by this gift with Stan, in particular, was in the verge of crying.

 

“Are you crying?” Tyrone teased.

 

“NO! I’m allergic to all your sasses!” Stanley immediately wiped his tears and shouted out at the chuckling kid, Ford couldn’t help but smile ‘ These kids are going to grow into fine individuals.’ he thought warmly.

What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (in other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?)

Hmm. I guess it depends on who's asking! I've written like... 200 fics???? I think maybe Seeing Wolves (Where There Are No Wolves) on my loserchildhotpants account is a good introduction to like... my writing style? I guess? And it covers my most used tropes; slow burn, mutual pining, love confessions, eventual smut, etc etc.

That said, I think What Used to be Mine on my someonetoanyone account is probably a better example of what my writing has transformed into.

2. Go to your AO3 "Works" page, to the side bar with all the filters, and click the drop-down arrow for "Additional Tags." What are your top 3-5 most used tags? Do you think they accurately represent your writing habits?

On my loserchildhotpants account the top 5 Additional Tags are: Fluff (111), Angst (91), Tumblr Prompt (71) [I'm not gonna count this one tbh], Romance (60), Humor (54) and First Kiss (5)

On my someonetoanyone account the top 5 Additional Tags are: Mutual Pining (12), First Kiss (9), Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence (9), and Love Confessions (8)

and yeah, these are all p accurate - on both lists, the next one on the list would've been 'pining' lmao so a p accurate depiction!

15. What's your favorite AU that you've written?

Tbh my favorite AU that I've written isn't up yet -- I'm posting it in ~2 weeks and I don't wanna spoil it here, but... it fucks. This AU fucks. I'm so proud of it. It'll be on my someonetoanyone account - check back in w me then lol

16. What's an AU you would love to read (or have read and loved)?

So, first, I'm not big on AU's typically. I'm a basic bitch, i like canon-divergence best of all, and I don't usually stray outside that until I'm like, running out of things to read in the canon-divergent tags lol that said, a canon-divergent AU i NEVER get sick of (for my current fandom - destiel) is time travel fuckery. Older!Dean going back in time, meeting his younger self, or interacting w early seasons Cas, or Older!Cas going back in time and meeting Stanford Era!Dean, Stanford Era!Dean getting plonked into later seasons canon and meeting Cas at all -- it's delicious to me.

23. What's a trope, AU, or concept you've never written, but would like to?

Oh, so many. I'd like to try my hand at omegaverse (i've only read a handful in my LIFE that didn't feel weirdly transmisogynistic and over-the-top sexualized to the point that it had an opposing effect where it was suddenly sexless to me? I feel like i could mASTER IT AND GET IT RIGHT i just have no plot ideas yet lol), sex pollen something or other I'd love to do, I'd love to do a time travel fic of my own, I'd love to write a djinn dream fic, amnesia fic, murder husbands fic -- i wanna do all the things!!!

37. Promote one of your own "deep cut" fics (an underrated one, or one that never got as much traction as you think it deserves!) What do you like about it?

On my loserchildhotpants account, I think June is the one I was most proud of that didn't get much feedback. And it's got all the hits for the reddie fandom! Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Angst with a Happy Ending, Mutual Pining, Love Confessions, First Kiss, it's Richie-centric and i was really proud of the pacing and imagery of June :( the only person to ever point out June to me was my friend Grace, and it made me SO happy to know at least one person remembered June by name and that it came to mind as a favorite ; _ ;

On my someonetoanyone account, I think So Tirelessly maybe deserved some more love ; _ ; i love writing endverse!destiel and i plan to write more of it in the future, but this fic was short and bittersweet and i enjoyed writing it. i was like 'oh yeah, this one's a banger' and then it didn't really draw attention lol

41. Link a fic that made you think, "wow, I want to write like that"

In a destiel rec that will shock absolutely no one, sobsicles' 'let's take a drive' changed my brain chemistry forever and tbh i had a Crisis after going through their entire AO3 bc i was like 'oh what is the point of writing actually when sobsicles is out there doing the damn thing this well i should just be quiet' sdkjfhskldjhf genuinely an amazing fic and writer

In a johnlock rec that WILL shock someone, 'The Quiet Man' by ivyblossom - it's 157k words and i could. not. put. it. down. and why is this shocking? it's in First Person POV and i usually can't handle First Person POV bc it personally gives me the cringe (godspeed to everyone enjoys it, i mean no offense, it's just not personally for me) but this fic Changed My Life and genuinely made me rethink how and what I write.

And in a final, spicy and unpredictable thorki rec that no one asked for, 'Find A Home,' by Aria and filiabelialis is... incredible. Listen, when you open the link, you'll see it's 107k words, DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED, GO READ IT, IT'S LITERALLY INCREDIBLE AND SUCH A GOOD CHARACTER STUDY SDJHFKSKDJHF PLSSSS

Calling All Pines

I have been trying my hardest to find this, and I know it exists, but it’s elusive. It’s an extremely well drawn Gravity Falls double sided poster.

Both "sides" are on one side, so you can turn it so that the top becomes the bottom and vice versa. Both sides are triangular, making a kind of sideways bowtie shape.

"Side One" features the young Pines twins, Dipper and Mabel, with Dipper holding the receiver of a rotary telephone. Dipper appears to be talking, and both seem intrigued. The backdrop is deep in the woods, the trees stretching tall enough that you can't see past the canopy.

"Side Two" features Dr. Stanford Pines in the middle of working on the Portal. He is frantically grabbing at his own hair and holding a rotary telephone receiver with the other hand. One of his eyes is bleeding. Behind him is his basement, with a large portal, also triangular, completed but turned off behind him.

I remember it distinctly as being posted to Tumblr, and possible tags to search, in addition to the obvious, would include things like "Touch Tone Telephone" and "Lemon Demon", as the iconography is highly inspired by that song.

Let us get a few things clear. I am not an engineer, I am not a builder, I am not a designer. I am not responsible for the flimsy glass windows, or the asteroid defense, or the cryogenic pods, or the sun energy source, or the fact that there is a Goddamn warp core in the middle of this colony ship! I arrived five minutes before warp! My job is to push buttons and steer the ship, but everyone here pretends like they can’t even shit without my express written permission! I have been trying every conceivable variation on fixing this ship and everything going wrong with it. I. do. not. know. Why there is a wormhole in this ship, why I’m trapped in a loop, or how any of this got started. I just want to get out, and get the colonists out safely. I’m fucking sick of everyone pretending I’m acting out of malicious intent! I DON’T KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON! So here’s what’s going to happen. You are going to tell me how all this got started. You are going to tell me how to stop it. And I will. And then we can both go on our merry ways, riding into the sunset. Do you understand me?
