Since my crap is disorganized across multiple computers, laptops, notebooks, and handwritten scraps of paper, I've been trying to organize my music compositions. Having been "composing" (let's use the word liberally) since I was four, there are hundreds of songs to document. As I've been rediscovering hidden gems and endearing crap, I've been reflecting on my... naming trends. How musical creativity does not necessitate Title Creativity. How successfully I can ward folks off before they hear a note.

how does this go??

he learns early on, before they are even dating, that kendall has stepparents from both her mom and dad. “bye mom! bye dad!” kendall laughs as she hangs up the call. elias is driving the two of them into the arena for the game. “mom and dad?” he asks. quinn usually drives but he’s out sick, the stomach bug had been passed around the locker room.

kendall, a rookie, sitting in the car with elias, had no choice but to answer the call from her mom and step-dad. “yeah, well step-dad. i don’t really talk to my biological dad and his wife.” she’s blushing, slightly embarrassed as she has to talk to her mom and step-dad who are excitedly ready to watch the game from the east coast.

“oh, i’m sorry.” his accent is thicker than it is now. “it’s okay.”

a while later, during the bubble, she’s with quinn and elias when her parents call. “sorry, gotta talk to them, my mom is freaked out we are even playing hockey.” she goes to talk to her mom. “her stepdad is cool,” quinn says. “yeah… she told me she has a step-dad,” elias says.

“he’s a huge hockey guy, loves watching us play.”

elias finally figure out the whole story when kendall and him start dating. she’s arguing with her dad on the phone. she hangs up in anger when elias enters her locker room. “your step-dad?” he asks. “no. bio dad.”

“oh…”

“have i told you why i don’t talk to him?”

he shook his head no. “well, mom and him got divorced when i was nine. mom had full custody. he still would come to my games and stuff, until he started seeing tiff. that’s his new wife. who said he shouldn’t have to come to my games. so then my mom met andrew, my step-dad, and he came to everything. he learned hockey, stepped in to coach if needed, loaded my gear up in the car every saturday.”

elias sits next to her to keep listening. “then, i get the opportunity for the ntdp and my mom and andrew go with me. and i get on the team. and then we find ellen and jim who become my billet family. and i call my dad and he tells me to stop playing. that i won’t have a place after this. that all my hard work ends because the nhl is for men.”

“kendall i’m so sorry.”

“the messed up part? he wants me to comp him tickets for the game in boston. said that because my mom and andrew get tickets he should too.”

“you’re not going to, right?” “no. my mom and andrew will be there. andrew is my dad though, he has that title.”

Today was, for lack of a better phrase, hell. Your day started at five A.M. when you were woken up by a missett alarm on your phone and you couldn’t get back to sleep. It wouldn’t have been as bad if you’d gone to bed on time but midnight mass saw to it that you were up until two. Running on three hours of sleep, you just decided to drown yourself in coffee and pray to Satan that you could get through the day.

You make your way to the kitchens and attempt to make pleasant conversation with the kitchen ghouls and medical wing staff, the only other souls awake at this unsatanly hour. Stardust, one of the quintessence ghouls who works in the infirmary hands you a huge mug of coffee which you gratefully accept. She also gives you a blueberry muffin and a sympathetic look.

“Didn’t sleep well?”

“Nah. Got about three hours. I’ll be fine though.” You shrug.

You thank her for breakfast and head out while munching your muffin. The caffeine helps marginally and feeling slightly more alive, you make your way to Sister Imperator’s office for the day’s chores. To your sheer delight (not) she hands you a huge stack of the ministry’s paperwork and tax forms which you take back to your office with a sigh.

It’s just one of those days.

You get started on your work as best as you can, but by lunch your head is nodding and eyelids drooping. You’re not sure you can make it through the rest of the day.

Just then you hear a knock at your closed office door. Your door policy is explicitly clear. If the door is closed, it better be an emergency for you to be interrupted. Siblings and ghouls alike have learned that lesson the hard way.

“Come in!” You call.

“Ciao amore.”

“Hullo Terzo.” You can’t help but roll your eyes good naturedly and smile. Your lover is the one exception to the emergencies only rule.

“And what emergency have you brought for me today?” You make little air quotes.

Terzo puts on a playful pout. “Just that I miss you oh so very much my dear.”

“You saw me at mass. And we share a bedroom”

“But that was hours ago.” He whines. “Then to wake up with the bed cold and empty!” He fakes a swoon.

“Not my fault you sleep like the dead and didn’t hear my alarm.”

He scoffs and waves his hand. “Beauty sleep is important. Besides, I hear you didn’t get enough rest last night.”

You sigh. “Did Starry send you? I told her I was fine-”

“Ah ah ah,” He stops you. “She was just looking out for your wellbeing. And now that I’m here I can see it for myself. You must rest tesoro. You are exhausted.”

“But I need to finish this.” It’s your turn to whine as you gesture down at the paperwork scattered on your desk.

“So stubborn.” He tuts, already crossing to you. “At least let me help you relieve some tension, hmm?” He mimes rubbing your shoulders. “That way you can still work but at least feel a little better.”

You consider his offer and nod. A massage does sound amazing. And if it would get him to let you get back to work all the better.

“Okay. Thank you.”

“Of course amore.” He removes his gloves and sets to work rubbing your neck and shoulders.

Almost immediately you melt into his gentle hands. He starts slow and easy, just running his hands over your shoulders, feeling out the tight spots. Then with a tap to your shoulder blade as a warning, he digs his fingers in slightly and begins to work your tense muscles.

Your pen falls out of your hand and your head droops as he presses the heel of his hand into a particularly sore area. You can’t help a slight groan at the pressure and ache.

“Hurts? I’m sorry cara. This will make it feel better I promise.”

“Isfine.” You slur, not even looking up. You wave a hand to tell him to keep going. You’re not getting any more work done, you can already tell.

One shoulder loosened up, Terzo moves to the other and repeats the process of gently massaging your sore muscles. He alternates using the tips of his fingers and his palms, as well as modulating the pressure.

By this point you’re slumped over your desk, chin resting on your folded arms.

“No wonder you're sore if this is your idea of posture.” He teases.

It’s a testament to how tired you are that you don’t snap back with a playful snipe of your own.

“Up.” He pats your shoulder. “We’re heading to bed. I’ll finish massaging your back and then you’re taking a nap.”

You make to protest but he shushes you.

“Ah ah. I don’t want to hear any excuses. See, you're yawning.”

You stifle your yawn too late and roll your eyes. All the same, you stand and let Terzo guide you to the door.

“After you’re rested, I’ll send a ghoul to assist you with the rest of your work. Until then,” He scoops you up effortlessly and you hum happily. You press your cheek to his chest to feel his steady heartbeat. After shutting your office door behind the two of you, he carries you back to your shared quarters. He lays you on the bed before turning to rifle through your dresser. When he returns it’s to hand you a change of comfy clothes.

The both of you change into lounge clothes, and Terzo even washes off his papal paints. You raise a brow.

“I wouldn’t want to smear the sheets now would I? I’ll reapply them later. Now get comfortable, amore.”

You lay on your stomach as he stands next to the bed. As promised, he resumes the massage, paying special attention to your back. You sigh contentedly as he works out a knot that had been plaguing you for a week. You’ve completely melted into a puddle by this point, relaxed and sleepy.

“Nap time then?”

“Uh huh.” You agree without protest.

“Rest well tesoro. Sweet dreams.”

Terzo joins you on the bed and pulls you into his arms. As you settle down, head on his chest and arms around him, he pulls the covers up over the two of you.

Time for the third part to the Usami mini-takeover! It's yet another test for potential new cover types. This is a "SpaceShip" cover, a combo of my Space and Seaside covers. The results of these tend to sound like a magical naval battle held at night, this one included. This is making me want to make SpaceShip covers a thing, but I'm still not entirley sold on the idea

Typhon, Cosmic Rogue

Initial art for my partner's sona! She loves dragons and wanted one that sort of matched the vibe of my own fursona. So I named them for a nearby constellation, made them starry, but changed the colors and of course changed the class for a better party comp. Here's Typhon, the cosmic rogue! (idk if she'll keep that name but Draco sounded cliche and Ladon sounded dumb lol)

Throwback Thursday #46!- V/A- Pop American Style (March Records, 1996)

By the mid-90’s the indie pop scene was bursting worldwide with new bands seemingly popping up everywhere, issuing new 7” singles every day. The American scene was no different with bands all over the place and compilations of all shapes and sizes (I even issued my own compilation, Popular World comp, on my very short-lived Sky Blue Records imprint in 2000). 

Jack “Skippy” McFadden’s March Records label had been going for a few years by this point and he had released some truly fine stuff (that Holiday debut is still one of my faves) so he threw his hat in with a comp of his own. But this wasn’t just any old comp, this one was a 2-disc set (with K-Tel being an influence) of too many great songs to name, finding bands in just about every outpost of America.

The record starts with Shoestrings and their impossibly lovely “Summer Days” (they released a very fine sophomore album a few years ago on Shelflife) and then right into the Rocketship classic, “Hey Hey Girl” then onto the Cuddlecore (not my term) of Cub (with “Howard”) and on to the suave pop of the previously-mentioned Holiday with “It’s Only Love.”

40 songs spread out over two discs with more great cuts coming via Heartworms (a side project of Archie from Velocity Girls), Allen Clapp  his Orchestra, My Favorite (with the brilliant “Go Kid Go”) and Poundsign with the superb “Starry Night.”

Who else? further, Vehicle Flips, Holiday Flyer, Aberdeen, the Push Kings, Elf Power, Tullycraft and too many more. It really did seem like the comp to end all comps and I played it for days/months.

**side note- a few years later Skippy released Moshi Moshi: Pop International Style with a 2-cd compilation of bands, as the title suggests, from the USA and around the globe. Not quite the eye-opener that this comp was but still pretty damn good.

Teddy is all over the map with her music. It ranges from obscure and popular 80's music from her parent's generation to Top 40/Country/Dance with some showtunes and indie singer/songwriters thrown in

Her favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. All of the good food of Christmas without the gift expectations. It has become even more special to her since she started her relationship.

She only speaks English

🍛 CURRY AND RICE — what does your oc's typical dinner look like? do they usually eat dinner?

It really depends on the day. During the season, it's a lot of meal prep during road trips. Lex and Teddy have a pretty boring/routine diet for game days. They eat out a lot and/or have food delivered on non-game days when he is at home. During the summer, the diet is more consistent of light breakfasts/lunches with a heavier meal on the grill.

😖 CONFOUNDED FACE — is your oc an introvert, an extrovert, or an ambivert? do they let people in easily, or are they more reserved?

Teddy is an ambivert. She can be quite extroverted when around people she trusts and/or when her anxiety is under control. She is more introverted in large group settings or when her anxiety is flaring up.

Evie

Evie has pierced ears. She wore a nose stud while in grad school, but removed it when she started working at the Fairmont.

Evie drinks alcohol socially. She drinks more at parties, but does have a cocktail or glass of wine at dinner. Evie has indulged in a party cig occasionally. She also does partake in edibles occasionally

Nope, she was very glad when Sidney offered to add her cottage to the scope of his professional landscaper.

Indulging in public/semipublic sex is her most questionable habit. She also hold a grudge against anyone she thinks has wronged Sidney. She is also pretty damn stubborn.

Evie loves chocolate in all forms. She prefers milk chocolate over dark chocolate. She will also never turn down mousse, souffle and/or creme brulee

Comparatively, Evie is more spontaneous than Sidney. However she is more detailed focused than Sidney and is also more of the planner for family activities

The third installment for Youmu day! This is actually based on something I made for Sakuya day, the Sneaky Clock version of Luna Dial. I put the first three instruments down and knew EXACTLY what this theme needed, so technically the two are now a pair! Who knows, maybe I'll make a whole line of casino themed songs for the main playable characters to add to the "literally why are they in a casino right now" collection. I already have some ideas about how they ended up in a modern casino and why, but that's for a different post (unless you want me to explain...)
