one more thing about the teen wolf movie, because i’m still not over how bad it was, and i’m taking these few things i liked:

there’s no evidence which would say that derek and stiles aren’t communicating together, on the contrary. when i watched this scene:

“you should be calling your son”, it sounds like a thing derek says more often, - possibly hearing it from stiles, (for my headcanon part - it could be that stiles and his dad had some small argument and aren’t speaking to each other, or avoiding talking.)

And later we even see sheriff's phone, where it seems the past few days hes been in contact with derek and other people, but there’s no stiles -

and that’s why it would be funny to think derek has to listen to both of their sides of their whatever-disagreement,

stiles would be every time like, “he still hasnt called”, so derek could be telling sheriff hes tired of his shit and “can you just call your son? not any fbi agents but specifically your son? thanks, yeah he will be visiting next week, im not gonna say more, you both need to sort it out, at least for eli, so you dont argue in front of him”.

and another thing is the jeep, of course, the jeep.

which ofc, derek doesn’t hate it at all, and we find out in the end how much he doesn’t hate it.

(istill can’t believe this is a real line they said in the movie, but given what other things they’ve said and done in this movie, okay..)

this part in 4x1 is probably the last thing i watched and remembered from the plot, so i will take it as stiles’ decision to never abandon the jeep, and how much it means to him, even with whatever happened in the other two later seasons:

like, tell me stiles knew he wasn’t going to be around in the town for a while bc of his internship, so he left it at home, thinking it will just.. stay there.

but derek thought otherwise - he wanted to keep it running, to fix it.

it’s like this important thing, the jeep, that connects their family, and now it’s eli’s, and derek is still annoyed about it (because he’s alive), but also amused that really that car is eli’s favorite thing just like it was for stiles (and just like derek in that metaphor, it won’t stay down, it keeps running, because again, derek is alive in this version, and everyone is happy and okay. ♥)

Headcanons Inspired by the Teen Wolf movie:

Eli is not just a Sterek child, I would bet money that he was conceived thanks to or at the Nemeton. Possibly both, depending on the AU. (Lowkey, I have *thoughts* about the Nemeton just spontaneously creating Eli all on its own because it has access to both Stiles and Derek DNA and is the original agent of chaos in the TW universe.)

While Eli was busy freaking out about being a werewolf and subconsciously stopping his own transformation, the Nemeton was drawing his spark closer. Thus the sleepwalking. Which, if we must accept the horror of canon, would probably grow more frequent when he moves to LA. That child is bringing Derek back to life before he can legally own a license and the Nemeton is his wingman.

Coach refuses to acknowledge who Derek is (he totally knows him/remembers him) because 'that jerk refused to try out for lacross!' and he 'is too busy to entertain basketball players or their delusions of grandeur!'

An alpha is only as strong as his pack bonds and Scott letting them all go dormant is why he didn't have the strength to hold down the nogistune/stop Derek. That the Hales remain close even when apart is why Derek did.

Stiles left the jeep purely because he *knew* toddler Eli was obsessed with it and it would drive Derek crazy for at least a decade. It's his way of flirting from a distance.

Eli knows who Stiles is (possibly very well). He did not put the pieces together with the jeep being his because it was too obvious and his brain flew right over that connection.

Eli's earliest memories are of 'helping' his dad fix the jeep, which is one of the reasons he's attached to it.

Derek gets deeply pissed off when someone says smn like "how didn't you kill Stiles yet? he's so annoying and he's babbling all the time. how can you stand to be with him? aren't you embarrassed when he talks nonsense?" bc what the fuck do you mean he's embarrassed?

He's not annoyed or frustrated, because he likes hearing Stiles talk, he likes that Stiles feels comfortable around him enough to let his conscious flow free. He loves it, bc he sees how Stiles shuts up in the presence of his dad, he knows that he's the only one since Claudia who actually listens to what Stiles says.

And he hates when Stiles hears those things bc he shuts off and doesn't talk for days and Derek has to grab him by his face and growl "fucking talk to me" and shake him a little. And Stiles explodes and cries and they have sex and then everything is normal again.

OH YM GOD YESSS./ HEDWIG OH MY GOD. this is so crazy cause i once had a post about how stiles' exes/previous relationship has definitely done the "kisses you to shut you up" thing especially when he's rambling and stuff so when he's finally with derek, he FULLY expects derek to do the same. like to the point that he sometimes suddenly goes quiet because no one has ever let him ramble this long and surely derek isn't even listening anymore??? except. except derek looks up from whatever he's doing and perfectly follows up on whatever stiles has been saying and even says some super specific things he's said bc guess what! guess what! derek hale IS the most perfect boyfriend and he LOVES stiles. to death!!!

YOU KNEW WHAT YOU WERE GONNA DO TO ME WITH THIS SENTENCE CHRIST. i forgot what fics i read this once but claudia being the only one who can keep up with stiles' talking and random changes of topic. the sheriff who can't even keep up with stilesclaudia's conversations. the sheriff who has definitely, at one point after claudia's death, told stiles to shut up because claudia is dead and no one's gonna listen to him anymore............

i just. oh my7 god. i have so much fucking emotions about stiles' rambly self and derek absolutely loving it and keeping track of everything and LISTENING. like derek hale is a listener he LISTENS!!!! sometimes he even shocks stiles because he'd randomly open up a conversation by recalling stiles has said daysss or weeks ago and acting like they were just talking abt it. like he knows how much stiles loves talking abt his interests or abt anything in the sun it's so. he just loves him so much

i jsut love the idea that derek knows stiles is often annoying and rambly but that's HIS annoying and rambjly human. he loves him BECAUSE he's annoying and rambly, because he's who exactly derek needs..... he'd absolutely punch someone for saying all that shit abt stiles honestly he's just so perfect

I hope that the teen wolf fandom has a sudden revival so that people can start writing new fics that aren't stuck in the mid-2000s found family dynamics that for some reason make Stiles into pack mom

like god it was one thing when I was reading it in a vacuum, but now that I've watched the show and actually understand Stiles and Derek as Characters it drives me crazy

I just want some freak4freak Sterek not this pack mom and dad bullshit. Derek grew up in a shack and doesn't understand how to act like a person and thinks his terrible jokes are the funniest and Stiles just gives off Serial Killer Waiting To Happen like no one else and the only reason he hasn't been put on All The Watchlists is because his dad is the sheriff

Sorry that it's been a while

I've literally been thinking about this since I got this ask. I haven't been in the fandom long enough to really feel confident on what my unpopular opinions would be.

I guess that I like Sterek AND Stydia AND Stalia. I don't think Derek would have been comfortable if he had been the only one Stiles had been with considering Derek's teenaged years. He'd want Stiles to have some experience before being with him, so I think it's ridiculous to put down Stiles' previous relationships.

Also, Stiles being "mom" or the "pack mom" - why can't he be "pack dad"? You can have two dads... Seriously, enough with saying "Stiles is Eli's mom".

Overall, it's a bit of a pet peeve of mine when people insist on Stiles being "the girl" of the relationship. As many say, he's a "feral bastard boy". He's a mean, if socially awkward, jock with nerdy interests who doesn't respect personal boundaries, like AT ALL. He's extremely parentified and so he will make sure everyone he cares about stays alive, but that doesn't automatically mean he's nurturing. Just look at his canon relationships with Liam and Isaac. He cares for their wellbeing, yes, but he is NOT nice about it.

I think that while Sterek are both versatile once together, Stiles would be the more dominant in bed and Derek would be more submissive. Derek was born a middle child beta wolf in a huge pack, and is thrust into a leadership position and is all alone. He wants/needs to be taken care of. After the Nogitsune, I think Stiles has even more control issues than he previously had and is a lot more aware of his dark side. Not to mention, Stiles is like the definition of Power Bottom.

I think people infantilize Malia. Just because she was a wolf for 8 years, it doesn't mean she's still, mentally, a child. She just doesn't understand human society. Considering the amount of autistic people that are the same way, it really annoys me to see.

I also think that Allison is overrated. <-probably my most unpopular opinion...

Question wise and brilliant Lucky, why are people invested in Sterek. I know it’s deeper than two handsome men fucking but what is it that makes it so fiercely loved?

Oh man, this is a loaded question. First things first: I think a lot of the Sterek investment comes from people who watched the show as it aired, because along with the many hints in canon of a budding relationship between the two of them and fandom at the time (as encouraged by MTV and even Jeff Davis himself), it seemed like Sterek was going to happen. Now, I have to qualify this by saying I was not in the TW fandom at the time. I did not watch the show until 2019/2020. It was live queerbaiting, and a lot of people have written really good analysis of this that I (personally) do not feel like I have the background to do.

While Steter is my OTP, it would never have been canon. There are like, less than 10 interactions between Stiles and Peter in the entire show. Now they're fantastic interactions that I love to read too much into, but that's not the point here.

Stiles and Derek are both critical to the narrative from the pilot. There's absolutely no trust between them at the beginning of things. But that changes over time, and honestly a lot faster than I think I even initially realized. They help each other grow, and advance the plot. Stiles figures out a lot of the things that have happened to Derek and he has sympathy for Derek, which somehow is not something that absolute tragedy of a man gets from people in this show.

Derek can't comprehend Stiles being the nogitsune, because they're close. Because he knows Stiles...and how? Derek doesn't see Stiles as dark and cruel (though I have other opinions on this) and it doesn't make sense to him.

The way that Stiles looks at Derek when he has to go help with the clusterfuck in Mexico in S4 but he thinks Derek is dying...whew. He looks like he's leaving his world behind. Derek looks like his world is walking away.

And then...nothing, for a while. Sterek is weirdly removed from the narrative until, almost randomly, they show up together in S6??? With goofy stories???

Anyway, all that aside, I think people are invested in Sterek because they were encouraged to be. Because an insane amount of B-plot and main plot time went into developing their relationship. Because off-screen the ship was encouraged by the cast of the show. And because it's fun!

This is super not cohesive and definitely not comprehensive, but just because I'm not primarily a Sterek shipper doesn't mean I don't see and understand the appeal.

There's something so captivating about the way this fic flits from one moment in the past to the present, and how all the clues are laid out in front of you and it all culminates into something so gloriously written. One of the best written fight scenes I've ever read. Made me want to learn how to wield a glaive, so that's something.
