hungover spider wrangling

short little idea inspired by a conversation about spiders with @idontevenknowhowtolife mostly gen, tiny bit of Jace/Aegon at the end

The screaming woke him and Jace stumbled out of his room to find his brother scrambling up onto the couch. Aegon had already clamored onto the top, clinging to the cushions as he sat precariously on the backboard.

"Kill it! Kill it!" Luke yelled the second he caught sight of Jace. He jumped up and down on top of the couch, arm flung wide as he pointed vaguely towards the opposite end of their living room.

Exhaling slowly, Jace calmed. The panic fading quickly and leaving a pounding headache behind. Drinking with Aegon was always a mistake in the morning...

"We're going to die!" Aegon cried, moaning dramatically into a cushion. Jace rolled his eyes. He cringed as a sharp pain stabbed through his head in retaliation.

"It's not venemous..." Jace sighed as he stepped forward. The spider on the wall was big, he'd admit. About the size of his palm, but it was entirely devoid of color and had positioned itself near the patio door where all the mosquitos came in.

Luke shuddered, eyes squeezing shut, "It's huge! Get rid of it!" He flung his arms wider, "You're my older brother, it's your duty to protect me!"

Wide, trembling eyes were aimed his way. Two sets of them. Aegon's bottom lip was even wobbling, "Please?"

"I think we should leave it," Aemond strolled into the living room. He didn't so much as blink at their brothers' dramatic. "It's eaten at least one mosquito so it's already contributed more than Aegon."

"Aemond~" Aegon whined, lips puckering into a proper pout. The spider moved and Aegon shot up, stumbling backwards and falling off the couch with a yelp.

With a snort, Aemond looked pointedly at Jace, "I believe that proves my point."

Jace dragged a hand down his face. He turned around to retrieve a glass and a piece of paper. By the time he got back, Aemond and Luke were arguing over the coffee table. His brother still trapped on the couch by a harmless bug.

"William is a valued member of this household! We cannot evict him without just cause!" Aemond snapped, scowling up at Luke.

"He's not on the lease!" Luke hissed, nose wrinkling and hands fisting at his sides. "I am not living with some giant spider on our wall! He invaded! He forfeited his rights the moment he came inside!"

Ignoring them, Jace approached the spider and quickly removed it, dumping it in to the backyard before the argument could escalate. Apparently, that was enough to earn a glare from Aemond upon his returned.

Luke got off the couch though and Aegon mumbled his thanks before passing out. He could put up with Aemond's grumbles about his 'unjust rejection' of their new roommate.

Eventually, it would blow over. Probably before dinner even.

Or so he thought.

"Who's William and why is Aemond so upset you kicked him out?"

His mother called a few hours later. Jace groaned, eyes still closed as he rolled onto his back. Aegon huffed and dragged a pillow over his head.

Pinching the bridge of his nose, Jace wished he hadn't gone back to bed. Or accepted Aegon's flask when the man offered him a little hair of the dog.

The effects of the alcohol lingered, however, "Ask Luke. He's the one who wanted me to kill William. Aemond doesn't appreciate the compromise."

He hung up before his mother could ask more questions. With a groan, he rolled back over, curling around Aegon. Their bodies slotted together with a well-practiced ease.

Jace might actually regret getting rid of the stupid spider. Aegon moaned softly, hips rocking back as Jace kissed at his shoulder.

"Do you want another prize, Jacaerys?" Aegon drawled, head rising from the pillow. He smirked, "A reward? For your chivalrous behavior."

Lashes fluttered. Jace chuckled. He claimed Aegon's mouth and ignored the rising voices coming from the living room. Jace had handled the spider for his brother, Luke could deal with the fall out for him.

So many! This is gonna be long, apologies, but I tried to currate, I swear. ^^' still hit the audio limit for this post, which i didn't even know tumblr had

Here's my playlist for writing HotD fics. Most of the songs are associated with Aegon, Rhaenyra, Alicent, Jace, etc. Some of the songs are more for specific AUs than others, but I generally just pop it on whenever I write anything remotely HotD related. Fair warning, it's quite angsty.

Today I introduced my sister to “the problem of Susan” and I had to explain to her that Susan was left out of Narnia cuz she liked boys and lipstick now and without missing a beat she said but what about Peter? Does Peter not like girls? And I knew she was pointing out the inherent misogyny at the center of the “the problem of Susan” but the implications of that question are a source of much hilarity to meeee LMFAO like Does Peter not like girls? Does he like boys? Is he Gay? Is Narnia really just a homo-utopia where Lucy is also a lesbian and Edmund is a bisexual disaster and Susan was kicked out cuz she was too straight??? Can I make CS Lewis turn over in his grave with this new reading?
