Ok, thought I had. Hunter doesn’t have these older brother tendencies because he’s the clone of Caleb Wittabaine. No, he has these tendencies because Steve used to be the closest thing to a friend he had in the Emperor's Coven. He would hear Steve talk about his little brother. How they would do these ridiculous things together just because they could. How he would comfort his little brother after a bad day. How, before he entered the Emperor's Coven, he would spend so much time with him, and protect him, and all in all how much he loved his little brother and would do anything for him. And Hunter thought that was so interesting and sweet. A part of him wished he had a sibling to love & care for like that. (He once asked Belos if he had a sibling, but Belos simply told him that it didn’t matter, after all, they were dead.) 

Then he meets, then later (truly) befriends Gus. They become close and start viewing each other as brothers. I’d like to think there were times in the first couple of days together that Hunter & Gus would be doing something, and he’d be reminded of one of Steve’s stories, and be like “ooh! This is what he meant by ___” And yeah, I just think it’s way cuter if he got his ‘how to be a big brother’ info from Steve, instead of it being left over emotions from Caleb.
