Notes on the Moon boys

I've decided I'm not entirely sticking with the show, nor am I entirely sticking with the comics. As usual it'll be a mix of both with a sprinkling of my own ideas in there. Of course I will be making a page for them but I've yet to get around to that - so here's this spill of thoughts 'til then. Also I will note that while I've done my research on DID I am by no means an expert and welcome any corrections on mistakes I may make - I endeavor to be nothing but respectful with my portrayal.

General notes:

- The suit design they wear is not indicative of who is fronting, it's a matter of choice. If it's more convenient to remain in one suit rather than changing as they switch, that is what will happen. - The suit is what gives them their powers and they can't summon it during the day. This won't stop them working if they feel they need to, instead they utilize their own respective skills in whatever way they need to. - They do have a false copy of the suit for if they have to show up as Moon Knight during the day, however they will bluff their way through pretending they have their powers while wearing it. - Their powers grow stronger or weaker depending on phases of the moon, when it is full they are at their strongest and new moon is where they are at their weakest. The suit still functions, healing will just be slower and far more painstaking. - They don't require mirrors to interact within their system, Marc and Steven are capable of direct dialogue with each other these days. Both are aware there is likely a third alter but have yet to interact directly with him as far as they're aware. However he has occasionally left clues for 'missions' - often left at the door as though they are sent from a mysterious stranger.

- His childhood follows the storyline in the show, he blames himself for his brother's death, as did his mother - her abuse on top of his grief and survivor's guilt led to him developing DID as a coping mechanism. - Skilled fighter - former soldier and mercenary, most often the one fronting while they do their work as Moon Knight. - Very open about his situation while in the role of Moon Knight, mentioning Khonshu and Steven as 'voices in his head'. Often dismissed as 'crazy' by others, he plays into this purposefully as it often leads to people underestimating him. - Lacks self preservation when fighting as Moon Knight, he is known for taking hits that others would have dodged and then still just getting up. My favorite description is: He will crawl up the sword he's impaled on just to strangle you to death. - Does actually believe in the work he does as Moon Knight, serving justice as the fist of Khonshu. This doesn't mean he actually likes Khonshu, he is just a means to have that power to protect the travelers of the night, he still loathes that bastard bird. - Will kill if hes 100% sure a criminal deserves it (murderers, rapists, etc.) Or for self defense. Won't kill robbers, thieves or such unless he has no choice. - Can imitate Steven's accent if he has to, though he's not as good at it.

- British accent, will also use British colloquialisms. Can't imitate Marc particularly well though more due to mannerisms and confidence than not being able to do the accent. - Often helps ground Marc when he begins going off the rails, helps talk through things, serves as a soothing calming presence. - Occasionally fronts while they do their work as Moon Knight when a more delicate approach is needed or problems need solving, he is shockingly intelligent (especially when it comes to puzzles, languages and history). - Not happy with the whole killing people thing, this is often a point of contention between himself and Marc. He'd much prefer to just maybe beat them up and leave them for the police to find. - Doesn't particularly enjoy or tolerate pain well, will dodge blows being dealt if he can help it. - Generally prefers doing the more mundane day to day things that Marc would rather avoid, so he'll be the one getting the shopping, doing the laundry, etc. Often does so while listening to audio books. He quite enjoys the wind-down from the usual wild pace of their lives. - Very honest and open about his feelings.

- Speaks Spanish as his first language but still fluent in English, might pretend he doesn't known English if it means people are more likely to talk shop around him - thinking he can't understand. - Can imitate both Marc and Steven's accents if he feels he needs to. - Works as a cab driver, uses this to get information about things that are going down - often people don't think about the cabbie as they discuss their business and that works well for him. - QUICK to violence and brutal with it too, he's a 'no bullshit' kinda guy and will front if he feels they're in dire straits. If that means killing people who might not entirely deserve it, so be it. No bother to him as long as he keeps himself standing. - Is well aware of his situation thanks to Khonshu, has no ill will toward the other alters and actively tries to help them with their work cleaning up the streets. - Surprisingly charismatic and chatty when he's not fighting, this man is used to holding conversations in his cab and can charm people fairly easily. Who do you think got Steven that date when he worked at the gift shop? 'Cause it sure wasn't Marc given he still loves his wife. - Fighting style is downright feral. I'm talking honey badger kind of nonsense, he's here to kill and he doesn't care how messy it has to get for him to get that job done. - The only one 'loyal' to Khonshu, more willing to kill those that cause trouble for those travelling at night - regardless of how serious the crime.

Process + ramblings under the cut - told you i went full extra about it [also Remy told me to include it so there you go lol]

This is a pretty open-ended prompt but i decided to approach it as straightforwardly as possible - 15 of my favorite artists, and as close as i could come to a favorite song pick for each. This process actually took me several days lol i had to use a spreadsheet to organize my thoughts and everything [didn't really do anything special with it though as far as formulas or whatever, i basically just used it as a way to easily visualize my working list]

[fun fact: my original artist long list actually wasn't too long, i got up to 21 before i started making cuts - will say i probably could have added more but at that point i had already spent 30 mins on this and i was like okay i have got to nip it in the bud so i can get to the actual songs skdjfnsd]

You'll see in my above screenshot I had narrowed it down to about 2-4 for my last handful of artists but i did have to narrow it down from a longlist for most of those last few, which i did by tossing them all into my queue and skimming through each song:

Then i gave it a day so i could come back to it with fresh ears, and the next evening I sat down to fully listen through my shortlists and come to a decision for each artist [Sufjan took me the longest, surprise surprise]

i did kind of consider full list composition when making my choices - not, like, too much, like my favorites are my favorites, but if i was having trouble deciding between songs for an artist and i needed a tie breaker one of the factors i took into account was if there was already a song on my list that hit a similar mood/niche; also i did want to make sure i had a decent spread of my fave genres represented [so basically a mix of indie rock/pop, hip hop, edm, contemp rnb, and sadboi tunes]. Personal memories/significance also a factor for tiebreakers. otherwise i guess my main criteria was Vibes

obviously the thing about this exercise is if i had done this at a different time i probably could have ended up with a completely different list but i think that's the fun of it, capturing your mood at a specific point in time. happy with where i landed!

A few more notes on some of the picks [i was really considering doing a breakdown of every song but that's too much even for me skdjfskdfs]

Tokyo Drifting by Glass Animals - this is one of the tiebreakers I decided on to balance out my list of sadboi tunes. i think it is an immaculate banger from start to finish - incredible sampling, INCREDIBLE feature from Denzel [this song is actually what put me on Denzel, also an artist i really like in his own right], incredible hooks [WAVEY DAVEY I'M ON FIRE!], incredible attitude and production, just everything about it is perfect. When I saw Glass Animals live in 2021 the bass drop they did when performing this song shook every molecule in my body from head to toe and i've never been the same since

Kody Blu 31 by JID - back in 2022 when I was making my top 2022 albums/songs lists, I had actually originally gone with Dance Now off of Forever Story because I was limiting myself to one song per artist and Kody Blu 31 was the painful cut I decided to make from that top 10 list. this was at least part of the reason why i went with Kody Blu 31 this time LOL also Dance Now is a complete banger, Kody Blu 31 is what you listen to when you want to feel sad about past hardships and losses but ultimately hopeful about the state of the world - the kind of song that inspires you to persevere - which is, you know, a vibe i could really use right now [fwiw i do stand by Forever Story as one of the best albums of 2022 and honestly one of the best albums of the decade so far; now that I've had more time with it, it's an easy 10/10 from me]

i by Kendrick Lamar - i am a little ashamed to admit that i only just listened to To Pimp a Butterfly in full recently [like within the last month; was only familiar with the singles before] but you know what better late than never. easily one of the most perfect albums I've ever listened to. honestly there are so many kendrick songs that could go on this list - it's not my fault that man puts out nothing but bangers! he really has the range! - but i keep coming back to this one because of the tone of painfully hard-earned celebration in the first half - the anthemic "I love myself" vocals! the virtuosic rhymes! the infectious melody lines in the production! it's bursting with confidence and joy in a way that doesn't feel cheap or cheesy - juxtaposed with the monologue that comes in after the music cuts out [the background crowd vocals slowly fading out... Kendrick's delivery so raw and powerful you hang onto every word... i never skip over it when listening to this song, i can't]. So impactful, so relevant even today, SO well done in that switch up - again it's the kind of song i need these days

Majesty Snowbird by Sufjan Stevens - I actually considered cutting this from contention because technically it's not an official song - i have only ever listened to it via bootleg concert recording uploaded along with a truly goofy picture of him by some rando on youtube - but after listening to it in its entirety twice [it's a ten minute song, just ftr] i decided it had to count. i almost hope it never gets an official recording, like there is something inimitable about this live recording that IS the song to me - the random "WOO" at the very start [juxtaposed with how completely quiet the audience stays through the song up until the end when they erupt into applause; you get the sense every single person there was holding their breath], the scratchiness of the electric guitar, the goosebumps you can only get from listening to a live orchestra - not even to mention the power of sharing music for the sheer love of it, whether that be participating in the communal experience of listening to this song live along with hundreds of other people in the same space as you or passing on the bootleg recording so strangers on the internet can listen to it too. and it's an incredible fucking song on top of all that. Chicago and Futile Devices were probably the most difficult cuts I had to make from my top 15 list but i don't have any regrets for cutting them for this.

This Is The Life by Two Door Cinema Club - my irl best friend and i consider this the theme song of our friendship. we've been friends since freshman year of high school, have listened to and loved the album this song comes from since almost that long, have danced and cried and screamed to this particular song so many times. it represents so many memories and times of my life. it's been with me for a long time. this honestly was the easiest choice of the whole list for me

A page that is VERY important for lore and world building!!! I hope this answers a few questions some of you may have as well XDDD

Most of the rogues in space actually used to be Crystal Gems from Earth, just like Rose, Pearl, Garnet, Bismuth, and all the uncorrupted gems we see in Change Your Mind. However, during the war, quite a few Crystal Gems fled Earth to save themselves; and they continued to go around the galaxy and liberate gems and off-colours under the Diamonds’ authority. (FYI, “waif” means a homeless, abandoned or neglected person).

The little white-grey masked gem in the second-to-last panel is named Albite. I don’t actually think she ever appears in Partners In Crime again, according to my notes… but I might give her a cameo again sometime, maybe XD

(The likeness of the orange gem in panel two belongs to @fireopal-tash!!! The rest of those gems are just ones I thought of whilst drawing; a topaz, a pearl, two amethysts, a jade, and then three other assorted gems without names!)
