Henry T. Sloane House
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Henry T. Sloane House is a mansion located at 9 East 72nd Street on the Upper East Side of the borough of Manhattan, New York City. It was designed by Carrère and Hastings in the late Rococo style and built in 1894.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was originally constructed for Henry T. Sloane, son of a founder of the carpet firm W. & J. Sloane. The Pulitzer family rented it from Sloane, and in 1901 it was purchased by banker James Stillman. He lived there until his death in 1918.
In my opinion, this house and its neighbor, The Oliver Gould Jennings House, go together so well that they almost seem like an extension of each other. For me it was almost impossible to build one and not build the other. :P Both on the same plot, work very well with The Sims 4 For Rent.

Tumblr media
“Agent Amaro? Agent Amaro? Did you hear what I just said?” Nick was shaken from his daze by a firm hand on his shoulder.
Looking up into his Captain’s eyes, he briefly shook his head and looked back down to the case file in front of him containing a photo of Miguel Galindo and his wife (Y/N) Galindo.
From the second Nick saw Miguel’s face, he did a double-take and got lost in thoughts when his Captain explained the operation and that Miguel Galindo was Nick’s lost twin brother.
“Amaro?” Captain Stillman shook Nick’s shoulder again.
“Uh, sorry, Cap. What did you say?” Nick asked, looking up again.
“I said, I know it’s a difficult case, but you’re the only one who can get in with the family. Miguel Galindo is a smart man, but he has a soft spot for family. A blind spot for family even. Ever since losing his mother suddenly, he’s been in a tailspin, and it’s gotten ugly. I hate to do this to you, put you in this situation. He’s family you didn’t know you had….” Captain Stillman continued before getting cut off by Nick.
“No, he’s my blood, but it doesn’t make him family. We all know he has ties with murders on both sides of the border. You know me, cap, I’m in. I will get the intel we need to bust the Galindo Cartel once and for all and stick him and his entire team behind bars. Blood or not. Whatever it takes.” Nick got up quickly and closed the vanilla file folder taking it with him. “Tell me when and where I need to be, and I’ll be there.” He added before heading out of the bleak grey room in the FBI’s California bureau in downtown L.A.
Walking around your empty mansion on a hill felt lonely and cold even if the sun shone in, making it bright. Being the wife of Miguel Galindo had its perks, of course, like having a doting husband who loved you and would protect you always. It also had its negatives, like no privacy and times where Miguel was gone for business, which lately seemed to be more frequent.
In your heart, you knew Miguel loved you, but your mind loved putting thoughts into your head when you’d hear whispers around the town of jealous women who would claim they had seen Miguel make out or even sleeping with other women. The thoughts ate at you the more times he left the house.
Your black five-inch heels clicked with every step you took across the beautiful, tiled floors as you paced across the room back and forth.
Miguel had promised to be home by lunch, and it was now going on nearly four in the afternoon with no word from your husband or any of his bodyguards.
You had done your hair, put on your favourite makeup, and changed into a lovely blue barely-there lingerie set Miguel had bought you on his last trip. You had a gorgeous body con dress showing off all your beautiful curves that your handsome husband loved to feel and couldn’t take his eyes off.
It was meant to be a surprise, a coming home gift if you will, but now he was late, and you were frustrated and upset.
Huffing, you grabbed your heels and started towards the stairs, grumbling to yourself angrily.
“Mrs Galindo.” Leo, one of your bodyguards, entered the living room and glanced at you.
“What?!” You snapped before sighing. “I’m sorry, Leo. You didn’t deserve that.” You clenched your jaw before turning around and looking at the tall man your husband had trusted to keep you safe when out in public.
“Mr Galindo sends his apologies for being so late but wishes for you to join him for dinner tonight at seven at The Prado.” The tall, dark brown-haired man looked at you with striking, nearly black eyes.
“If I go and he doesn’t show up, I’ll kill him.” You growled, still angry he missed lunch, and you had gone all out for him, even skipping lunch in hopes he would get in not seven hours later. “You can tell him I said so too.” You nodded before heading upstairs. “I’ll be ready by six.”
Sitting in the black SUV later that evening, you took a breath until something caught your eye in the seat beside you. Your brows furrowed before grabbing the Tiffany & Co. bag. “Leo? Was this supposed to be here?” You questioned when your trusted guard got into the vehicle to drive you to the restaurant.
“Yes, Mrs Galindo.” He said before driving down the long-paved drive.
You opened the bag noticing a small card slipped inside. Opening the envelope, you read the inside of the sweet note.
“Cariño,
I’m sorry I couldn’t pick you up myself. I’ll meet you at the restaurant. Here’s a little something to make you smile. Put it on, and I can’t wait to see your dazzling smile soon.
Con todo mi amor,
-Miguel.”
Your heart melted, and you looked in the bag again before you took out a square jewellery box, unwrapping the neatly tied white bow and opening the hinged lid of the famous Tiffany blue leather box. Taking out the suede pouch, you opened it and let a beautiful diamond tennis bracelet fall into your hand. Gasping, you held it up after putting the box and bag down. “Miguel…” you whispered to yourself before feeling your cheeks and face warm from the love and butterflies you felt filling you at Miguel’s gestures and love.
A Tiffany tennis bracelet wasn’t just a drop in the bucket for everyone, but Miguel loved spoiling you when he could. Smiling to yourself, you placed the bracelet around your wrist and managed to get it clasped just fine. Holding your wrist out, you turned your arm and hand side to side slightly to let the streetlights catch on the many diamonds and shimmer around the car.
Miguel pulled up at The Prado in his town car before getting out and straightening his grey suit jacket with a single shrug of his shoulders and pulling of the coat. The man strode into the restaurant; the hostess already knew who the man was by just his face, let alone the air Miguel held when he was in a room. Confidence, power, a tone that told everyone to stay out of his way and not bother him unless asked.
The young woman led Miguel straight to the back of the restaurant into a more private area so that you and he wouldn’t be bothered. “Thank you.” Miguel smiled before sitting down and looking over the menu.
“They’re pulling up now, sir.” Luis leaned in after getting a call saying your car had pulled up out front. Miguel nodded and looked towards the front of the restaurant so he could watch for you. It had been too long, and he missed you desperately.
In another corner of the restaurant, just outside Miguel and (Y/N) Galindo’s view, Nick was seated within earshot of the table they would occupy. Tonight, he started his operation to get into the family, but first, he needed some basic information. How they were as a couple and what Miguel had been up to.
Nick had worn black-rimmed glasses and had already ordered an appetiser of crackers and hummus along with a beer. The agent couldn’t believe he was sitting here now so close to a twin brother he never knew he had. His mind raced with thoughts and conflicts but knowing he had to do what was right. The cartel was dangerous and needed to be stopped.
Ever since growing up with an abusive father and wanting to help other victims in the same situations as he, his sister and his mother were, Nick Amaro had always been on the side of the law. He started in narcotics and was a detective with Manhattan SVU before moving on from the NYPD when he knew there was no growth in the department for him. He was grateful that the FBI wanted him; he was now a field agent and had gone undercover several times.
For a detective, Nick had thought he would’ve figured out he had family lying to him along the way, but maybe he is blind to family in some way, like his twin Miguel.
The raven-haired man shook his head, clearing himself of his thoughts when he heard Miguel speaking again and heels clicking on the tiled floor. He subtly turned his head to the right to eye (Y/N) Galindo as she made her way towards her husband. Nick could’ve been easily caught by staring too long, given she was the most gorgeous woman he had laid eyes on. The man had to remind himself tonight was not the time to reveal himself, and he could not take this woman, for she was already taken by his cartel leader brother no less. Nick groaned and drank his beer, preparing to hear what the couple had to say.
“There she is. You look beautiful, mi amor.” Miguel wrapped you into his arms, holding your hips briefly and kissing you tenderly, smiling against them. He wished he had just gone home and had dinner so he could get you to bed sooner if he were being honest.
Your husband slipped around you and slid your chair out for you before you sat down and scooted it back. “I was beginning to wonder if you were ever coming home.” You raised a brow, deciding maybe you shouldn’t let Miguel off the hook so fast.
“I’m sorry, baby, business took a bit longer than I had planned, and I had a few more meetings than I had anticipated.” Miguel frowned, hoping you could forgive him. He took your left hand, bringing it down on the table with his and tracing your inner wrist, bracelet and up to your wedding band before returning to your wrist again and grabbing your hand, holding it tenderly in his. “Won’t you forgive me?” He said with a little boyish charm and eyes that had mischief behind them but looked like sad puppy dog eyes.
“That doesn’t make up for leaving me all dressed up at home with lunch and a surprise for you for nearly four hours and not a word about where you were.” You tiled your head, raising a brow, trying to hold your resolve.
“A surprise?” Miguel smirked, the corners of his lips curling under his neatly trimmed beard. “What was the surprise? You still have it waiting for me?”
“Nope…that surprise expired at four when I got comfortable and took a nap.” You smirked. “I do forgive you, though. I just miss you. It’s…it’s too quiet when you’re gone.” You sighed and took a sip of the wine Miguel had ordered while waiting for you to come inside. “Just glad you showed up tonight. Didn’t want to have to kill you or anything.” You teased.
“I heard from Luis that you would if I didn’t show. I’d like to see you try, my love; I’d like to see you try.” Miguel had an amused glint in his dark hazelnut eyes as he chuckled from deep within his chest and took a sip of his wine, swirling his glass. “I’m sorry, amor, I know I’ve been gone a lot more often. So many meetings lately, so many promising things in our future, and I can’t wait to share them with you, but this isn’t the time or the place.” Miguel gave your hand a tender squeeze.
Nick listened in curiously about what business dealings Miguel could potential have in store. Was it legitimate or illegal? All in due time, Nick figured he’d find out.
The man listened in on the couple who made happy light conversation, figuring they never would discuss business in public or any personal information, given Miguel had the reputation to keep up a perfect public appearance of a happy and proud family man.
Sighing, the tired agent took another swig of his beer and waited for the Galindos to leave, figuring tomorrow would be the day he officially met and started his investigation of his twin, Miguel Galindo.
The following morning Nick pulled up to the Galindo residence and stopped at the gate in his modest four-door sedan he had rented while doing this undercover stent. Nick pressed the call button and waited for someone to answer.
“Who is this?” One of the many guards spoke through the speaker from up by the house.
“Uh yeah, this is Nick Valens,” Nick came up with a fake last name for his time undercover. “I’m here in hopes that I can meet Miguel Galindo. I…I um, well, I’m his twin brother.” The man cleared his throat.
There was silence on the other side of the speaker before the buzzer sounded, and the gate started to draw back, opening for Nick to drive up to the big house perched on top of the small hill just outside Santo Padre. The man took a deep breath as he pulled up to the front door area, where he was met with a team of guards, all armed with guns at their sides.
One with long braids came up to his driver’s side and tilted his head, silently asking him to step out of the car. Nick did as he was asked, and as he looked at the guard, the man looked as if he had seen a ghost.
“Is this a joke?” Nestor spat out after a minute before shaking his head. “Uh, sorry. You said your name was Nick Valens? Miguel’s twin?”
“Yeah, look, I know it’s all confusing, but I just found out recently and came out here to meet him. Well, hopefully.” Nick laughed dryly as he looked around at the number of guards. “If I can get past the….” The handsome man waved his hand around to the guards and cameras. “First round of approval. I thought I’d have to face his wife or family for approval first.” Nick smiled, proud of himself for making a little joke. Nestor shook his head, smirking a bit, knowing Miguel would never believe this shit.
“Yeah. Stay there, alright.” Nestor looked over to the other guards alerting them to keep an eye on Nick as he headed into the house and to Miguel’s office. He rapped on the door with his knuckles a few times before hearing his childhood best friend and boss telling him to come in. When Nestor entered the clean, well-kept sophisticated office, he glanced at Miguel, who had his head down looking at some contracts in a stack on his desk.
“How can I help you, Nestor….” Miguel drawled out, never looking up.
“Hey uh, Mikey.” Nestor started before Miguel looked up, curious and annoyed as to why Nestor was calling him by his childhood nickname, which they shared growing up and in casual moments still, during business hours. “There’s someone who’s here to see you. And before you say no, I’m pretty sure you’re going to want to see him.” The cartel leader furrowed his brows and stood up, his black dress shirt clinging tightly around his chiselled chest just right as he headed out of his office, followed by Nestor.
“This better be worth it, Nestor.” Miguel grumbled as he headed to the front door opening it and instantly finding his breath caught in his throat at the sight of Nick.
“It is.” Nestor whispered, slipping around Miguel and back outside. “He says he’s your twin.”
Miguel felt so many emotions, shock overall but betrayed, angry, joyful, and sadness. He instantly wanted to know why his mother never told him of a twin. Was she even his mother? How many lies was he told? Did this man who looked exactly like him know anything more than he did? The leader shook his head, trying to clear his mind and eyes of tears before clearing his throat and stepping forward.
Nick was shocked all this time Miguel was only a photo until last night when he got a brief glance and had heard him speak. Seeing his twin face to face made him wonder if this was why his father had been so angry all those years. Not that it gave him an excuse. He was still and always would be an abusive son of a bitch, which Nick would never forgive, but was he upset as his Ma because Miguel was given up for adoption, and he didn’t want to? He never saw his Ma doing that, but nothing made sense right now. The undercover agent had to get his head back into the game and shook his head before stepping forward, looking over his brother, working up tears.
“I-I’m Nick Valens, and I’m your twin brother.” Nick spoke softly, his voice wavering with emotion from his thoughts.
“Miguel Galindo. I never heard anything of you. I want to know more.” Miguel suppressed his emotions best he could, even if everything inside of him was screaming. He stepped aside and waved the man inside of his home. There was a familial connection there, Miguel couldn’t deny the feeling, but as a cartel leader, he always had a healthy dose of suspicion. With the many dealings, he had to make sure things were on the up and up, and everything went smoothly.
Both men had a lot riding on this meeting; it could mean a future as happy brothers, unanswered questions and feelings finally answered once and for all, or it could lead to heartache, unhappy memories, or bloodshed. Only time would tell.

The Ghost of Little Gracie
by Abby Stillman Grayson
The idea that children should be seen and not heard did not hold true for Gracie Watson when she was alive, and it doesn't hold true now. In fact, now it's just the opposite-Little Gracie makes herself heard but not seen. She is said to haunt the site of her parents' famed soirées, the former Pulaski Hotel in Savannah, Georgia.
The Watsons ran the Pulaski Hotel in the early 1880s, and Gracie was born in 1883. Northerners who longed to fit into Savannah society, the Watsons began inviting the city's elite to elaborate parties, with Gracie as an adored pint-size "hostess." Her father's pet, she charmed the upper crust until she became bored, at which point she would wander off to play under a stairwell at the back of the house.
When Gracie died at the tender age of six after a bout of with pneumonia, she was sorely missed. Her father had a statue commissioned in her likeness to mark her gravesite in Bonaventure Cemetery. A marker at the grave tells the story:
Little Gracie Watson was born in 1883, the only child of her parents. Her father was manager of the Pulaski House, where the beautiful and charming little girl was a favorite with the guests. Two days before Easter, in April 1889, Gracie died of pneumonia at the age of six. In 1890, when the rising sculptor John Walz moved to Savannah, he carved from a photograph this life-sized, delicately detailed marble statue, which for almost a century has captured the interest of all passersby.
Gone for Good?
It's not just Gracie's gravesite that captures the interest of people in Savannah. Little Gracie, it has been reported, is still out and about. While the Pulaski Hotel building still stood, it was said that a child could be heard playing under the stairwell, yet no child was in sight. In the new building that went up after the Pulaski Hotel was razed in 1957, the area around its former staircase became the site of the ladies' room-and many a surprised restroom visitor is said to have been startled by Gracie's antics.
Now that the new building houses a bank, it remains to be seen whether Gracie will continue to haunt the premises. Without the familiar din of people eating, laughing, and taking, will Little Gracie feel at home? Perhaps she wander off in search of more entertaining diversions, as she was long ago known to do.

Love’s Messenger (1885) & Beatrice (1895) by Marie Spartali Stillman
The world, when still in peril, thought that, wheeling, in the third epicycle, Cyprian the fair sent down her rays of frenzied love,
so that, in ancient error, ancient peoples not only honored her with sacrifices and votive cries, but honored, too, Dione
and Cupid, one as mother, one as son of Cyprian, and told how Cupid sat in Dido’s lap; and gave the name of her
with whom I have begun this canto, to the planet that is courted by the sun, at times behind her and at times in front.
...
I saw in that light other wheeling lamps, some more and some less swift, yet in accord, I think, with what their inner vision was. Winds, seen or unseen, never have descended so swiftly from cold clouds as not to seem impeded, slow, to any who had seen
those godly lights approaching us, halting the circling dance those spirits had begun within the heaven of high Seraphim;
and a Hosanna sounded from within their front ranks such that I have never been without desire to hear it sound again.
...
Revolving nature, serving as a seal for mortal wax, plies well its art, but it does not distinguish one house from another. … Engendered natures would forever take the path of those who had engendered them, did not Divine provision intervene.
—Dante, Paradiso: Canto VIII

hc + 😶 for a headcanon about a secret they know of / keep
thematic headcanons // @viikingwitch
it's not so much a secret she keeps but she does know that the world is so much larger than people know. emma tig knows it. dorian williams knows it. doctor saltzman knows it too.
floribeth pieced it all together with wade by her side. she'll divulge the information, but you have to ask for it. and you have to know what you're asking for.
once you know this, you can't unknow this. you'll carry the knowledge forever that there is more out there than mystic falls and new orleans and the salvatore school and malivore.
malivore is a part of the dark dimension, which in itself houses a bunch of supernatural creatures. most - if not all - of those creatures have some link or connection to the night world, an underground society consisting of night people: vampires, werewolves, witches and shapeshifters.
the night world has it's own laws and is governed by a joint council: the inner circle governs the witches and the elders govern the vampires.
(it even had it's own wars.)
it is decreed by the joint council, for instance, that blood-feasts are illegal and forbidden. none of this stops the night people from hosting such events or attending them. blood-feasts are held in black iris clubs - nightclubs and bars for any and all supernaturals - all across america. prominent black iris clubs are the ones in pennsylvania and san francisco. humans aren't allowed (except if they are the ones that will be taken to bed or exsanguinated) and one must be over eighteen - or at least look to be over eighteen - to enter.
there are several other groups active in the night world right now: - the lancers; elite vampire hunters that are stationed on the east coast. their hq is found in boston, massachusetts and they work together with triad industries. - jez redfern's gang; a gang of teenage vampires consisting of morgead blackthorn, thistle galena, raven mandril and valerian stillman. they are all stationed in san francisco. morgead blackthorn might have founded the gang but jez is leading it now. - circle midnight; one of the two official nationwide witch circles which is open to all witches. those who hold with circle midnight lean towards malevolent magic and are not the biggest fans of humans. - circle twilight; one of the two official nationwide witch circles which is open to all witches. those who hold with circle twilight lean towards benevolent magic, hold respect for life but merely tolerate humans. they will attack if provoked. - circle daybreak; a special kind of witch circle, in the sense that it welcomes everyone with open arms from fellow witches to vampires to werewolves to shapeshifters to humans. their goal is to make sure the night world and the human world live in harmony. or as close to it as they can manage. members of this circle are known as 'daybreakers' and floribeth is currently working on officially joining this circle (as she's already been working with them for quite some time now). - keller's team; an elite fighting team consisting of raksha keller, a shapeshifter; winfrith arlin, a witch and nyssa johnson, a vampire. they are considered to be circle daybreak's top operatives and are often out in the field.
due to being related to the harman family through her mother, floribeth has always been drawn to harmony, a town in virginia, coincidentally near mystic falls and grove hill which is filled to the brim with supernatural creatures and it is there that floribeth settles down eventually.

Neil Salonen should stand trial for committing perjury based on new evidence!

Excerpts from Memorandum on Behalf of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon Submitted to Members of the Subcommittee on International Organizations and the Committee on International Relations of the United States House of Representatives
This Memorandum is respectfully submitted to the membership of the Subcommittee on International Organizations (the “Subcommittee”) and the Committee on International Relations (the “Committee”) by the undersigned counsel for Rev. Sun Myung Moon. We have been advised that the Subcommittee has authorized a subpoena directed to Rev. Moon in connection with the Subcommittee’s pending investigation of Korean-American relations, and that it is now considering whether such a subpoena should in fact be issued.
Chairman Fraser has suggested, without disclosing his basis for doing so, the existence of possible links between the KCIA and “persons or organizations affiliated with the Rev. Sun Myung Moon.” However, during the recent public hearings conducted by the Subcommittee, the purely speculative nature of any such inference became clear…charges were rebutted by Neil Albert Salonen in his testimony before an executive session of the Subcommittee.
In fact, both Rev. Moon and other members of the Church have made repeated and emphatic statements – both before the Subcommittee and in other forums – that the Unification Church has no affiliation, either overt or covert, with the South Korean Government or any agency thereof, and that Rev. Sun Myung Moon is a religious leader who has no association or connection with any governmental agency or body.
Even more importantly, logical analysis supports the proposition that there is no link between the Korean government and the Unification Church.
In light of the speculative nature of the Subcommittee’s “evidence”…it is respectfully submitted that before the Subcomittee can legitimately summon Rev. Moon as a witness, it must demonstrate by direct and reliable evidence that an affiliation exists between the Unification Church and the Korean government…“Unevaluated” and speculative testimony and intelligence reports – especially where demonstrably erroneous in their description of underlying facts simply do not and cannot satisfy the Subcommittee’s burden.
Moreover, the religious faith of individual members of the Unification Church will necessarily be affected by compelling their religious leader to testify…
At a minimum, the Subcommittee must first adduce reliable, first-hand information showing that Rev. Moon is an agent of the Korean government. Only on the basis of such information should the Committee permit the subpoena to be served.
DATED: New York, New York May 12, 1978
Respectfully submitted,

Excerpt from Investigation of Korean-American Relations (Moonies, aka Unification Church)Relations with the Park Government
In the late 1950’s, Moon’s message was favorably received by four young, English-speaking Korean Army officers, all of whom were later to provide important contacts with the post-1961 Korean Government. One was Pak Bo Hi, who had joined the ROK Army in 1950. Han Sang Keuk (aka Bud Han), a follower of Moon’s since the late 1950’s, became a personal assistant to Kim Jong Pil, the architect of the 1961 coup and founder of the KCIA. Kim Sang In (Steve Kim) retired from the ROK Army in May 1961, joined the KCIA and became an interpreter for Kim Jong Pil]. He continued as a close personal aide to Kim Jong Pil until 1966. At that time, Steve Kim returned to his position as KCIA officer, later to become the KCIA’s chief of station in Mexico City. He was a close friend of Pak Bo Hi and a supporter of the UC. The fourth, Han Sang Kil, was a military attache at the ROK Embassy in Washington in the late 1960’s. Executive branch reports also linked him to the KCIA. On leaving the service of the ROK Government, Han became Moon’s personal secretary and tutor to his children.

Dear Miss Kim (Young Oon Kim),
Thanks you so much for your letter. In 1960, we tried to locate you in Oregon but later found you had moved to California. As you no doubt realize, activities of the last months have excluded any letter writing–even my close friends (your (her) three dedicated students)Sang, Bo Hi, and Bud. I hope some day we can meet. Mrs. Butterwick joins in sending all good wishes.

Jong Pil Kim. Chairman of the newly emerged Supreme Council for National Reconstruction (SCNR) in Korea, Jong Pil Kim journeyed to the United States in November, 1961, for talks with American leaders and a meeting with President John Kennedy. After the talks, he spent two days in San Francisco before returning to Korea. During his stay in the Bay Area, Miss Kim received a call from a Colonel Han, a church member and one of Jong Pil Kim’s aides and interpreters. He had arranged for Miss Kim and five American members not only to attend a reception but also to have an audience with the chairman.
At the reception, members met another aide who had recently joined the church, and in the private audience Miss Kim spoke of her work in America. In addition, each American member gave a brief testimony of their experiences with the church. While the meeting was relatively routine, its significance was enormous for a community which was struggling with obscurity and rejection.

Message of Governor Kyong Whan Pak
On Sunday, July 30, we had a visitor from Korea who is the Governor of Kangwon Province, Kyong Whan Pak. He is the first governor to invite our group to lecture for anti-Communist purposes. He is visiting America at the invitation of the State Department. Mr, Bo Hi Pak invited him to meet with us on Sunday, and he gave the following talk after the service:
“…This is my third trip to the United States. The first trip was made at the same time as Mr. Pak for purposes of study. The second trip, also under military auspices, was in 1959. This time, my third trip, I came at the invitation of the State Department…Before I became governor, 90 percent of my activity was in military life…I have formed a group which is nothing like an organized religious body…I plan to train 3000 rural youth…with a new ideology to counteract the Communist ideology…”
“There are about sixty young people from the Unification Church who are assisting me in the training of the young people…I chose them to assist me in the program…Each month these young people of the Unification Church give an antiCommunist lecture…In order to help them materially, I have issued bus passes to them to use in their travels in the province Kang Won…I would like to express my whole-hearted congratulations for the expansion of the Unification movement abroad, particularly in America…I would also like to extend the invitation to you to visit Korea, particularly my province. I will be most happy to welcome you and show you around.”

October 14…A visit to the Korean CIA was scheduled for us in the afternoon. We were given a guided tour through exhibitions of North Korean culture and history; a briefing on statistics about present North Korea; a movie on North Korea; and discussion (questions and answers) with a spy who had defected from North Korea.
Excerpt from The Rising Tide - March 3, 1975
Mr. and Mrs. Fefferman and FLF President Neil Salonen, together with representatives of the Japanese and European couples who participated in the wedding, Unification Church President Young Whi Kim and German Unification Church President Paul Werner met with Korean Prime Minister Kim Jong-pil on February 5 in Seoul. Assassin's Creed 1 - The Foundation
Tumblr media
Release Date: November 13, 2007
Period/Era: Third Crusade, 12th Century - 1191
Summary:
Desmond Miles (the modern-day protagonist in 2012) is kidnapped by Abstergo agents and forced to relive the early years of his ancestor Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, using the Animus. The animus is a machine developed by Abstergo Industries which allows the user to access their ancestor's genetic memory as it is projected into a three dimensional virtual reality output. Desmond learns that Altaïr was member of the Levantine Assassin Brotherhood during the Third Crusade in the middle east. Due to his arrogance, he fails his mission to retrieve an artefact from their enemy, the Templars, breaking the three tenets of the creed:
Stay your blade from the flesh of an innocent
Hide in plain sight
Never compromise the Brotherhood
Al Mualim, the mentor of the Levantine Brotherhood, demotes Altaïr back to the rank of 'novice' (lowest rank) and orders him to assassinate nine men in order to work up the rank and regain his position as master assassin.
After each target he eliminates, Altair learns more about how all these men are secretly members of the Templar Order and their mission on retrieving the Apple of Eden, a relic of the first civilisation, before humanity. He finds out that Al Mualim was working with the Templars in doing this, and that he eventually betrayed them as well to keep the Apple for himself. Altaïr confronts his mentor, who uses the Apple to create illusions to battle him. However, Altaïr manages to defeat Al Mualim, and in attempt to destroy the Apple, unlocks a map that reveals the location of other Pieces of Eden around the world.
Desmond then leaves the animus and we're back in the modern day as Abstergo, the Templars, now have what they need and are ready to kill him. However, Lucy Stillman, who is implied to be an assassin mole, convinces them to keep him alive for further testing. Using his 'eagle vision', Desmond discovers strange drawings on the wall foretelling a catastrophic event that will wipe out humanity.
Gameplay:
It's an open-world action adventure game played from a third-person view. What the player is seeing is ultimately what Desmond would be seeing when he's exploring Altaïr's memories. The player can travel by horse freely from different cities like Jerusalem and Damascus, but each need to be loaded in as it is not one big map that connects these cities. Each city has a bureau, a safe house, where the player must go to receive information about their next target. These cities have viewpoints in which the player must climb up to the highest points of the map so that Altaïr can map out his surrounding and also let Desmond synchronise as well.
This missions leading up to the main assassinations are tasks such as eavesdropping, interrogation, meeting with informants and gathering important items. There is a mechanic that shows how noticeable the player is to guards via a Social Status Icon. To perform many assassinations the player must consider the actions that suit their of profile. Low profile uses stealth and is obscure, high profile is more noticeable. These actions can raise an areas awareness until it goes to high alert, at which crowds scatter and guards take chase of the player. The player must then break their line of sight and find a hiding place. If the player can't escape they can fight back using swordplay manoeuvres.
The player's health represents synchronisation between Desmond and Altair. If Altair takes damage it is viewed as a deviation from the actual events and if the health bar depletes you will be reset to the last checkpoint. When synchronisation is full the player may use eagle vision which reveals characters through walls and marks them as allies, enemies, neutral or target of the assassination by the colour of their outline. The player may experience glitches due to the nature of the memories which helps the player identify targets, or can alter the viewpoint during in game scripted scenes.
Is it an RPG and does it work?
No this game is not an RPG. Although you rank up and gain new weapons and gain new skills, this can only be done as you complete the assassinations of nine men. The game only allows you to progress by playing stealthy and a lot of what you can do in the game is only to help progress the main missions, there's not much outside of this.
This works though, the idea is that you're looking through the memories of someone in the past, who's already made their own decisions, have their own skills and backstory, a fleshed out personality, and the player is meant to be observing and taking in the story and their surroundings. The cities are really cool and could've done with a few more side missions because it would be interesting to explore them more and see how the cities affect the people in a more personal level. This is, you could say, set in the early medieval ages, I could see why the aesthetic of this period and it's history makes it tempting to have had this game as an RPG, since many other games are inspired by it too.
It may be repetitive in it's nature but a simple game can be better than a longer and more complex game, because it allows it's sequel to add new elements to improve from the first game and be looked forward to. This is a great start to the franchise, although it may not have aged well mechanics wise, if you can look past that, it has an interesting concept and a really good story. (I'd recommend reading the book if the mechanics of the game are too old for you).

Maumee River Monday * HAPPY HALLOWEEN! * Here is a clipping of a drawing done by Joe K. French of the Daniel A. and Stillman Brown Homes on the Maumee River in East Toledo around 1900. * The drawing also features men in rowboats on the river; pedestrians; and a horse-drawn carriage on the road. * The houses are surrounded by iron fencing. * Stillman Brown was the superintendent of city and rural deliveries in the Toledo post office. He was born in Oregon township in 1871, the son of Charles H. C. and Jennie (Finch) Brown, former natives of Vermont and Guelph, Canada. Charles was an agriculturist on a small scale in the earlier days of his married life in Toledo, and later became a stock drover, operating in the Toledo stockyards. Later yet, he conducted a mercantile establishment on the east side of Toledo. He died at age 43 in 1882 in Toledo. * Stillman was only 11 when his father passed away and due to his brother, Charles Jr. enlisting in Company D, of the Tenth Infantry of Ohio, Stillman had to find work to support his mother. * He worked nights and weekends in the store his father had started under his father's partner, while attending school. At age 19, he started working as a clerk for the post office. * With money he saved, he purchased a tract of seventeen and a half acres, just beyond the city limits in east toledo and three and one-half miles from the Toledo post office. * Daniel and Stillman, two cousins, opened a large stockyard and slaughterhouse where the Weiler Homes is now located. • Want to learn more about Toledo, Ohio?
