Thinking how on Thanksgiving, Steve’s parents never come home which he’s honestly thankful for. But the holiday itself has never meant anything to him really. Before, it was just a day where he was forced to dress up, be quiet, eat the turkey his mother made that his father always said was too dry, and try to comfort his mother while she cried and cleaned up.
This Thanksgiving, Steve plans on staying in and watching a movie, maybe throwing a frozen meal in the microwave. Just another day really. He would’ve taken a shift at the Family Video, but they closed for the day.
He wonders what everyone else is doing. If the Wheelers are already arguing if it’s too early to put up Christmas lights. If Dustin is getting kicked out of the kitchen for “taste testing” his mom’s pie fillings. If Robin is able to hold her tongue in front of her crazy aunt. If the Hopper-Byers first Thanksgiving is going well. If Eddie and Wayne or the Sinclairs got Max to join them for dinner. Maybe Steve should’ve invited her and her mom over.
He shakes his head at the idea. No one would want him to host Thanksgiving. He wouldn’t know how.
The doorbell rings. Steve’s heart races. His parents aren’t supposed to be home until after Christmas.
He reluctantly makes his way to the door and opens it. The first thing he spots is the familiar mop of dark curly hair.
“Eddie? What are you doing here?” Steve asks, taking in Eddie’s smiling face.
“Happy Thanksgiving to you, too. Do you have any plans?” Eddie asks, bouncing on his heels, obviously excited for some reason.
“No,” Steve says. “What are you-?”
“Great, that would be awkward,” Eddie says, then calls out behind him, “We’re all clear guys!” Eddie grabs Steve’s hand and tugs him away from the doorway.
“Eddie. What-” Steve stops when he glances behind him and spots the Henderson’s first. Claudia rushes in somehow balancing four pies wrapped in tinfoil in her arms while Dustin holds some type of casserole.
Steve lets go of Eddie hand and rushes up to grab two of the pies from Claudia and guide her to his kitchen to set them down. By the time he turns around, he’s greeted by Joyce who hugs him tightly after setting down a large bowl of what seems to be mashed potatoes. As Steve melts into the hug, he feels Hopper clap a hand on his shoulder and squeeze. When Joyce breaks the hug, Robin appears by his side, hugging him and whispering, “Thank god this got me out of talking to my crazy family.”
Dustin eventually shoves Robin out of the way and announces, “My turn!” as he hugs Steve which eventually turns into a large group hug as the other kids rush in. Steve looks around at everyone and tries as best as he can to hide the happy tears in his eyes. He almost lets one slip as he sees even Mike join in on the hug.
As they all break away, Steve pinches his nose to keep himself from crying and shakes his head in disbelief. Nancy and Jonathan make their way over to give Steve a quick hug as well. “How- just how?” Steve asks them.
Nancy smiles and glances towards where Eddie is standing introducing his uncle Wayne to the other parents. “Eddie had the idea and arranged it all,” Nancy says with a wink and rushes off to help arrange the food.
Steve glances towards Eddie for a few moments, warmth blossoming in his chest. Eddie glances up and makes eye contact with Steve, shyly smiling at him. Steve’s heart skips a beat.
“Hey, sweetheart, do you have plates we can use?” Joyce asks kindly, breaking Steve away from Eddie gaze.
“Yes, of course,” Steve says smiling brightly at her. She looks at him knowingly, and Steve blushes and feels his eyes start to burn.
Steve gets a stack of plates out of his cabinet and sets them down where there’s some spare room on one of his counters. He glances over at everyone talking and filling his house making it actually feel like a home for once.
Steve’s heart races and he feels the pressure behind his eyes build a bit. He easily slips away down his hall and makes his way into the guest bedroom. He takes a deep breath trying to get ahold of himself.
The door opens behind him.
“You okay?”
Steve turns to find Eddie closing the door behind him, looking worryingly towards Steve.
“Yes,” Steve says honestly, vision blurring.
Eddie stays in place, fiddling with his rings rambling, “I should’ve asked you first before I did this. I just… I know you mentioned how you didn’t have any Thanksgiving plans, and I just couldn’t let you spend it alone. You know, you saved us, all of us. You saved me, and I just can’t ever repay you for something like that, man.” Eddie takes a deep breath and continues, “And I just wanted to show how thankful I am for you. How thankful we all are for you. But now I’ve just overwhelmed you and kind of took of your house like a goddamn idiot. I mean what was I thinking-”
Steve cuts him off by pulling him into a tight hug. Eddie tenses up at first but then relaxes into it, bring his arms up to squeeze Steve back. “Thank you,” Steve says, two tears falling down his face. He can’t remember a time when he’s ever cried with joy.
He pulls away and swipes at his face. “Shit, this is embarrassing,” Steve says with a laugh then explains, “I haven’t cried in front of someone since I was a kid.”
“Sorry,” Eddie says pulling his hair in front of his mouth and folding in on himself.
Steve laughs, and feels another tear fall down his face. “No, no. Eddie. I’m not crying because I’m upset. I’m just so damn thankful, you know?”
Steve sees a hint of a smile grace Eddie’s face as he continues, pointing towards where his kitchen is, “This is the first time I’ve had a Thanksgiving with a real family, and I can never repay you for that.” Steve moves forward and cups Eddie’s face in his hands. “Thank you,” Steve says.
“I mean, saving me from dying versus a big meal,” Eddie says with a snort tilting his head from left to right. “I can’t imagine who has a bigger debt to repay.”
Steve rolls his eyes and leans forward, pressing his lips against Eddie’s cheek. “I’m so thankful for you, Eddie,” Steve says with a soft smile.
“I’d be more thankful for you if you would’ve moved that kiss over a little,” Eddie jokes.
Then, Steve does exactly that. Eddie jumps a bit, probably not expecting Steve to actually do it, but then he’s running his hands through Steve’s hair and kissing him back.
When they pull away for air, Eddie comments, “Yeah, I’m definitely very thankful for you.”
Steve laughs, “That was a horrible line!”
“You’re acting like you didn’t say it first!”
Eddie joins in laughing, resting his forehead against Steve’s.
There’s a knock on the door. Steve breaks away from Eddie and reaches around to open it.
Joyce stands on the other side with a concerned look on her face. “Is everything okay in here?”
“Yes,” Steve says with a bright smile.
Joyce smiles back and says, “I just wanted to let you know that we’re going to start making our plates soon.”
“Thank you,” Steve says and grabs Eddie’s hand. “Come on.”
The boys follow Joyce back to the kitchen where people are starting to pile their plates high with all the food that was brought. A few people notice Eddie and Steve holding hands, but they don’t make a big deal out of it. Except Robin who nudges Nancy and directs her gaze towards them. They both look at each other and say, “Finally.”
When everyone is sat around Steve’s dining room, living room, and kitchen, eating, talking, and causing a general ruckus, Steve squeezes Eddie’s hand and thanks him again.
He has a lot to be thankful for this year.
(I’m so thankful for you guys this thanksgiving. So sorry I haven’t been very active. I’ve been sick and so busy. I love you all)

OKAY OKAY I HAVE AN IDEA
Remember that framed picture of the party pre season 1 of them with their science fair (?) trophy? So they are working on that project but mike and lucas bicker over will and while he stands there embarrassed for his life dustin keeps giving mike and lucas the side-eye and whispering snide comments into will's ear because he just wants to get the project done correctly with no distractions😭
I feel like this captures their dynamic perfectly especially because i LIVE for Lucas and Mike both having a tiny crush on Will before season 1. that happened, it is not a made up headcanon. Obviously. Totally.
Anyways, congrats on the followers, i really enjoy your work :))
oh my god this was an adorable idea, and listen i love the og party. i love the party in general but the og party is just SO GOOD. also i WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE. BYLER AND BYCLAIR RIGHTS THANK YOU SO MUCH.
anyways! i hope you enjoy!

honey, life is just a classroom
It’s that time of the year again.
It’s time for the annual Hawkins Regional Science Fair, and oh boy, Will already feels like he’s going to lose his mind.
Listen… Will loves his best friends. He really, really does. The Party is made up of the coolest people Will knows, and sure, none of them have any friends besides each other… but who cares? Will doesn’t really need any other friends besides Mike, Lucas, and Dustin. The Party is perfect the way that it is, and Will loves his best friends.
…
Most of the time.
He loves his best friends, but the glaring exception to this statement happens every year when it comes time for the science fair. Because every year, Mike and Lucas bicker for God knows how long for the stupidest things, and somehow, Will always ends up stuck in the middle of the two of them.
He doesn’t get it. They don’t seem to care what Dustin has to say or whose side of the argument Dustin is on. But for some reason, Will’s opinion on the argument is worth like… a hundred first place ribbons to Mike and Lucas.
Will usually doesn’t even have an opinion on these arguments, so um, yeah… that’s fun. That’s a lot of fun, especially when Lucas and Mike end up derailing their entire first project planning session by arguing over what project they should even do.
“Everyone does a stupid volcano, Mike!” Lucas argues, for the umpteenth time this hour. He throws his hands up in the air and gives Mike an exasperated look. “Cody Morris and his group did one last year, and so did Olivia Baker’s group, and Dylan Tapscott’s group! Volcanos are overrated, and if we do that, we’re going to lose again!”
“Not if we make the best volcano and show everybody up, Lucas!” Mike argues back, and when he gets up into Lucas’s face, Will can’t help but wince. That’s never a good sign. It usually means the fight is escalating, which means Will’s gonna have to step in and stop them again.
Ugh.
“Look, we’re the smartest people in our grade,” Mike reminds. “Dustin’s like a freaking genius. If anyone can make a shitty old volcano cool, it’s us. And then nobody will ever want to make a volcano for the science fair again. It’s genius.”
“It’s stupid,” Lucas deadpans. “How the hell are we going to make a volcano cool? There’s only so many ways to make a baking soda and vinegar explosion look cool. Woohoo. We put food coloring in it. Please, give us first place.”
Mike narrows his eyes even further at Lucas, and as he continues their argument, Will just sighs, falling back onto the floor of the Wheelers’ basement and closing his eyes. This is never going to end. It’s never going to end, and Will thinks he’d probably just be better off disappearing off into some faraway land, simply so he can escape the stupidity of his best friends.
“How did you put up with this for three years before I came along?” Dustin asks curiously, and Will opens his eyes, turning to look at his best friend.
“I have no idea,” Will admits. “I don’t think they were this bad when we were little. Do you remember them being this bad?”
Dustin purses his lips, glancing towards the other two Party members; then, he nods. “Yeah, they were always pretty bad,” he remarks. “They’re being so stupid. It’s like… neither of them actually care about what we’re doing! They just want to be right! And they want you to agree with them! I just wanna make shit explode and tell people why it did that!”
“Me too,” Will says glumly, and he, too, looks over at their best friends. “I don’t know why they’re getting so upset about this. They didn’t seem to care that much yesterday when we were throwing ideas around at lunch.”
“Eh.” Dustin sits up, and he shrugs slightly. “You know how they get sometimes. Maybe that’s what we should do our project on. The human brain and all its intricacies. Why do our friends make stupid decisions and fight with each other? Do you have a hypothesis, Will the Wise?”
Will snickers, sitting up and looking at his arguing best friends in amusement. “I think… Nancy probably did something to piss Mike off this morning,” he remarks. “And Lucas’s little sister probably stole his action figures again. So both of them were already upset and wanted to be right about something.”
“Hmm,” Dustin hums, and he mimics stroking a fake beard. “Interesting hypothesis indeed, but I do have one thing to add here.”
Will raises an eyebrow. “Go on…”
A smirk forms on Dustin’s face. “I think they fight with each other because they both want to be your favorite Party member,” he declares, and Will just sputters, feeling his face go warm.
“What?” he exclaims. “I don’t… I don’t have favorites. That doesn’t even make sense!”
“Maybe not, but it’s the hypothesis I’m sticking with,” Dustin says smugly. “And the science backing it is indisputable.”
“And what science is that?”
“Well, you’re clearly Mike’s favorite Party member,” Dustin points out. “You two have been best friends since kindergarten. And you’re Lucas’s favorite Party member too, because you were the first one to befriend him too. So, if you’re both their favorites, and they already like bickering with each other… I think they want to be your favorite Party member.”
Will feels his face get even warmer, and he glares weakly at his best friend. “I’m not… their favorite,” he mumbles, embarrassed. “And just ‘cause I’ve been friends with them the longest doesn’t mean anything.”
“Okay, well even if you stop factoring in how long you’ve been friends with all of us, I think it’s safe to say you’re still everyone’s favorite,” Dustin says with a shrug. “I mean, you’re my favorite Party member, and I’m not afraid to tell the others that. Just look at them, Will. They’re bickering like idiots and wasting precious time we could be using to beat the shit out of everyone and win this science fair. Meanwhile, you are being entirely unproblematic, as usual. Plus, you’re just always nice and always willing to help all of us out, like a good friend. Ergo, you’re my favorite. And for similar reasons, I believe that you’d be Lucas and Mike’s favorite as well.”
For a moment, Will just stares at his best friend, and he blinks, trying to take in Dustin’s words. “That’s… really nice,” he admits, smiling shyly. “Thanks, Dustin. That means a lot to me.”
A bright smile forms on Dustin’s face. “No problem,” he says cheerfully. “Anyways, while that was fun, I really don’t want to go through the rest of the scientific method to figure out why Mike and Lucas are idiots. Do you want to go ahead and end their argument?”
Will raises an eyebrow. “You think I could end their argument?”
“Will.” Dustin gives him a look. “What did we just talk about? You’re everyone’s favorite. Just… pick a side, then the other one will go with it. Simple as that.”
“Okay, I’m beginning to think you are really overestimating how much sway I have in the Party.”
“Please,” Dustin scoffs, falling back onto the floor. “Will, I hope you know that all of us would go to hell and back for you. I mean… I think we’d do that for anyone in the Party, but I dunno, it’d take a little more convincing for the others.”
Will just laughs, and he nudges his best friend lightly. “You’re the worst,” he says, shaking his head. “Okay… fine. Let’s test your hypothesis, then.”
“Be my guest,” Dustin says, gesturing to Mike and Lucas. “Pick a side, and watch how fast they stop arguing.”
Will just rolls his eyes, but he stands up, willing to humor Dustin’s silly hypothesis. It probably won’t work, but if anything, maybe he can convince Lucas and Mike to compromise or something.
“Hey, guys,” Will says gently, walking up to the others.
At first, Mike and Lucas don’t hear him, and Will glances over his shoulder, giving Dustin a look that says, I told you so. Dustin rolls his eyes, and he gestures for Will to keep going.
“Guys,” Will says, a bit louder now, and he waves his hands in front of Lucas and Mike’s faces. “Hey!”
Both of them stop, and in perfect unison, they turn to Will, their expressions softening.
“Oh, hey, Will,” Lucas says with a smile. “What’s up?”
“Did you need something?” Mike asks, tilting his head and offering a smile as well. “Everything okay?”
Literally, they look like two entirely different people from the boys arguing just a moment ago, and Will blinks, momentarily stunned.
…
Maybe Dustin’s hypothesis isn’t that far off.
“Well… I was just thinking we should probably decide what to do for our project,” Will suggests, and he glances over his shoulder at Dustin again. He hopes Dustin understands the silent question: What project do we do?
Dustin raises a brow, and he considers this for a moment, before nodding to his left. Go with Mike, the gesture says, and his expression also seems to say, We’ll figure it out later.
Will nods back; then, he turns around and smiles at his best friends. “Dustin and I thought it could be cool to do the volcano too,” he says. “Then, maybe next year we could do something entirely different that nobody else has done before, like Lucas suggested. … What do you guys think?”
Time for the moment of truth.
Will holds his breath, looking back and forth between Lucas and Mike. Mike looks a bit smug, but Lucas is a little harder to read, which makes sense. After all, Will is going against his opinion here.
But then finally, Lucas shrugs, and he offers Will a smile. “Yeah, that’s fine,” he says. “I don’t really care as long as we actually win this year. I swear, last year was so rigged.”
“There’s no way Tanner and his stupid friends should’ve won!” Mike agrees, and he throws an arm around Will’s shoulder, leading Will back to where Dustin is sitting. Lucas follows after them, and Mike adds, “I’m with Lucas. I just want to make sure we win this year, so we can take that trophy and tell everyone else to shove it.”
Lucas snickers, and he reaches over Will to high five Mike. “Hell yeah,” he says with a smirk. “Mr. Clarke’s rooting for us too, so I’m sure he’ll be willing to give us advice again this year. We’re gonna make the best damn volcano anyone has ever seen.”
As the two of them continue to go back and forth, sharing ideas with each other, Will just… sits there, his mouth open in complete shock.
That… actually worked.
That actually worked.
…
Has he always been able to do that?
No… there’s no way, right? Will would’ve noticed that. He’s been friends with both of them for years now. This has to be something new.
But then, Dustin catches his eye, and he grins at Will. “Told you so,” he mouths. “You’re our favorite.”
Will’s cheeks turn warm again, and he can’t help but roll his eyes, glancing at Mike and Lucas once more. The two of them seem much more relaxed now, which is nice. This is exactly how it should be.
Maybe this year’s science fair won’t be so bad after all.

Least frugal to Most Frugal
So I had a thought while I'm writing this fic about the party going to an amusement park and my friend and I were chatting about who we thought would be the most frugal of the party. I don't think any of them would particularly bad with money but I think there are some who would spend and some who are a bit more modest.
Least Frugal
Lucas: I think he definitely is the big spender lol. I feel like as they get older, Lucas wants to always be looking fresh and if he doesn't join the Air Force but pursues something in sports for a while, for sure lol. Since I think he would major in History at an HBCU, with maybe a business something minor, he definitely would like to have money and spend money. I don't think he's bad with money, quite the opposite but he likes to spend lol
Dustin: I feel like Dustin would be a little bad with money, I think (since I'd assume they're all good in math), that he would have a budget but doesn't always stick to it. I can see him going into some store and seeing something and being like "omg.. I have to have this" and the others would be like "but you already have 5 of those..." "I don't have 6 though...". Plus, scientists usually are a little bad with money but he's a good talker, so he'll always have grants and stuff to fund whatever he's doing.
El: I feel like El wouldn't be great with money, like a little inconsistent. Once she has it, I feel like she would buy clothes a lot. I think El likes nice/pretty things and buys things that either remind her of moments or people or things that make her feel good in the moment.
Max: I think Max is good with money but will have major impulse buys. When she and El go shopping, she finds a couple of things she likes but be shocked when El comes out with bags. She just a "I don't really need this" kind of person but she will have a good time though. If they're going somewhere to have fun, she could rack up the biggest bill.
Mike: I think Mike is good with money and whenever he's out with El, he'll talk her out of something lavish... unless she breaks him and he agrees that she should get it... or he would get it for her lol. But otherwise, he's the type to be like "my clothes fit... why do I need new ones? My shoes are functional, I don't need new ones". He would be interested in getting the newest technology but since Dustin and/or Lucas would definitely get it, he would wait to see theirs and mess with it before getting it himself. He likes good food though so I think he would spend money for some good food. He also might buy something nerdy but he has to really want it. I think being a kid and having so many toys (for what seemed like years), he doesn't see the need in buying the newest thing right away... unless he really wants it.
Will: I think Will is the most frugal and the best with money because of how he grew up, I think that kind of stuff never leaves you and it can go either way. Being an artist, Will knows he may not make a ton of money so he's smart with his money. He saves religiously and has a budget and if he goes out with his friends, he gets the same things off the menus, because he knows the price AND he's a creature of habit, which he's fine with. He definitely always gets gifts for his friends and family, but he may even more inclined to make something than to buy it. He will spend on art supplies though.
Most Frugal
So anyway lol just something I was thinking about and wanted to share! lol
