What made you ship it?

Honestly? The first time Faith showed up I already shipped Buffy and Faith. And I was a Buffy/Angel OTP shipper. Now Buffy/Angel downgraded to a 'ship' instead of an OTP.

In, I think 2021 I realized that I shipped Buffy/Faith more especially post-series and they've reached OTP endgame for me.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

It's the ship template for ships like Catra/Adora for me.

There's the obvious enemies-to-lovers trope. Real enemies too, and not just rival to lovers. I love how complicated it got for them, and real hurt but Faith really made an effort to make real amends.

My favorite thing, aside from their chemistry, is how similar they ended up being despite the initial differences.

I love that they have a connection that not even the new Slayers have. In a vacuum, without anything in the way, I love how they really do like each other and get along like a house on fire.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

I don't know if it's still unpopular but it wasn't Buffy's fault that Faith fell. I remember that being a popular opinion back during the LJ days and quite a lot of fanfics that Faith falling was her fault.

It never sat right with me, especially all the times Buffy tried to reach out to Faith, but Faith wasn't ready to hear it.

Instead of how it was the adults failing Faith (specifically someone who will be called GUY-iles). Giles allowing and not even caring that Faith is staying in a motel without any supervision was a doorway for the Mayor to enter the picture as a supportive dad.

(Also, can I just add in the comics, much as I love Giles what was that thing where he left all his wealth to Faith instead of, I dunno, dividing it equally or giving something to Buffy? WTF is up with that mess?)

Buffy might have contributed, but Faith's fall is also on Faith.

Last Book: Well, I just bought This Body's Not Big Enough for Both of Us by Edgar Cantero and read like three pages but I have started so many books in the last year that I fully intend to finish but just did not (because I got distracted), including: Gideon of the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir, Mysterious Skin by Scott Heim, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes by Suzanne Collins, My Heart is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones, and Bunny by Mona Awad.

Last Movie: I watched Dumb Money on netflix about the GameStop shorting investment thing in 2020, which I did enjoy despite not giving a shit about investment stuff.

Last TV Show: Me and Heather are almost done watching Riverdale, which has shot up to one of my fave shows of all time; I am sad it's almost over, and I wanna rewatch it again. I also started watching True Detective: Night Country, and I've been steadily rewatching Six Feet Under, though I have not seen the show since I was twelve, so it's really more like rediscovering.

Relationship Status: Single, sorta of, but queerplatonic partnership sorta too?

Last Thing I Googled: Bunny by Mona Awad because I was trying to remember her last name lol.

Current Obsession: Riverdale but mentally I have been hyperfixating on Supernatural and Dexter for the last several years.

Last Song: I Could Be by Kyla La Grange

Favorite Color: Lately I've into jewel tones of blue, green, red, and purple.

Last Book: I started Squad by Maggie Tokuda-Hall & Lisa Sterle last night, which is a queer werewolf graphic novel, and I've been slowly reading Betty by Tiffany McDaniel.

Last Movie: Poor Things at the cinema, which I loved a lot and felt very taken aback by.

Last TV Show: I'm still on my quest to finishing Riverdale (we're in S7) and very tempted to just start it back all over again from the beginning, but for non-Riverdale viewing, I watched the first episode of True Detective: Night Country, which I'm very into.

Sweet/Spicy/Savory: Savory for most occaisions, but sweet when I am in the mood. Spicy very occaisionally.

Relationship Status: Single, sort of. It's a complicated queerplatonic life partnership situation.

Last Thing I Googled: Apparently it was "queer werewolf books". A thing I wish there was more of.

Current Obsession: Supernatural remains at the forefront, but Riverdale is making me very happy as well.

Looking Forward To: Getting back into writing now that I'm feeling physically much better.

#kay so when are we gonna address his bipolar disorder tho --RIGHT?? I've been watching this show with my dad and we've been saying this all season. Season three Kendall definitely reads as manic. Same with the party scenes in "Dundee" (2x08) when Kendall hooked up with that actress. And then of course he was depressed for much of season 2, and showed signs of it in the s1 family therapy and bachelor party episodes. I think his addiction issues are tied in with him self medicating.

yeah there's no doubt in my mind that kendall is bipolar. i think they're getting closer to revealing it officially on the show. i just want him in therapy and on meds. i was genuinely scared about what he woulda done to himself had Naomi not been there after the party.

I really liked that there was no “wow you find me attractive despite my appearance” thing with them. Like it wasn’t treated as weird that they were together at any point. (And he did feed info to his master, but she also fed info to hers. It was complex on both sides.)

Yep. He genuinely gave her sincere affection when she most needed it. And wanted her, honestly and sincerely. The actors played it beautifully: the emotional intimacy of the mindreading scene, the lusty sexual joy of the scene where Yennefer is playing with the illusion of a crowd watching them while she takes her pleasure in him.

It was a positive experience overall; it gave her things, even as it also hurt and cost her things. It was a well-told flawed but not “abusive” or “toxic” etc etc relationship IMO.

It’s important to me that the show recognizes that she was lovable and desirable before the change - and how her physical condition is not depicted as itself painful/dangerous/particularly limiting.

All of the agony she was made to feel was inflicted by human beings choosing to be monsters to a girl who had done nothing wrong and was hurting no one. Some disabilities are actually life-threatening or cause significant pain/limitations - but the vast majority of agony for many people with disabilities lies not in that but in the hearts and minds of humans who are hateful and vicious for no goddamned reason.

Yennefer had a shitty people problem, not a body problem.

The one from January. I haven't gone back to re-read it but I remember there was a part there somewhere where I had a distinct feeling of Dollhouse clicking for me at that point and I went: Oh. No.

currently watching: Currently, TV-wise, I’m in the middle of a full series watch of Supernatural. But we did Barbenheimer the opening weekend, and saw Talk To Me this past Saturday. 

currently reading: I have a horrible track record with reading unless I’m listening to an audiobook, and often I can’t pay attention to a fictional audiobook, but at the moment I’ve been pretty captivated by The Only One Left by Riley Sager. As for non-fiction, I’ve been switching between: The Killer Across the Table by Mark Olshaker & John E. Douglas and All the Living and the Dead: From Embalmers to Executioners, an Exploration of the People Who Have Made Death Their Life's Work by Hayley Campbell.
