The court’s decision on the matter of student loan debt relief, which was closely watched, has dealt a blow to the Biden administration’s efforts. "Seven federal agencies are partnering to implement President Biden’s American Climate Corps, announcing this week they would work together to recruit 20,000 young Americans and fulfill the administration's vision for the new program.
The goals spelled out in the memorandum of understanding include comprehensively tackling climate change, creating partnerships throughout various levels of government and the private sector, building a diverse corps and serving all American communities.
The agencies—which included the departments of Commerce, Interior, Agriculture, Labor and Energy, as well the Environmental Protection Agency and AmeriCorps—also vowed to ensure a “range of compensation and benefits” that open the positions up to a wider array of individuals and to create pathways to “high-quality employment.”
Leaders from each of the seven agencies will form an executive committee for the Climate Corps, which Biden established in September, that will coordinate efforts with an accompanying working group. They will create the standards for ACC programs, set compensation guidelines and minimum terms of service, develop recruitment strategies, launch a centralized website and establish performance goals and objectives. The ACC groups will, beginning in January, hold listening sessions with potential applicants, labor unions, state and local governments, educational institutions and other stakeholders.
The working group will also review all federal statutes and hiring authorities to remove any barriers to onboarding for the corps and standardize the practices across all participating agencies. Benefits for corps members will include housing, transportation, health care, child care, educational credit, scholarships and student loan forgiveness, stipends and non-financial services.
As part of the goal of the ACC, agencies will develop the corps so they can transition to “high-quality, family-sustaining careers with mobility potential” in the federal or other sectors. AmeriCorps CEO Michael Smith said the initiative would prepare young people for “good-paying union jobs.”
Within three weeks of rolling out the ACC, EPA said more than 40,000 people—mostly in the 18-35 age range—expressed interest in joining the corps. The administration set an ambitious goal for getting the program underway, aiming to establish the corps’ first cohort in the summer of 2024.
The corps members will work in roles related to ecosystem restoration and conservation, reforestation, waterway protection, recycling, energy conservation, clean energy deployment, disaster preparedness and recovery, fire resilience, resilient recreation infrastructure, research and outreach. The administration will look to ensure 40% of the climate-related investments flow to disadvantaged communities as part of its Justice40 initiative.
EPA Administrator Michael Regan said the MOU would allow the ACC to “work across the federal family” to push public projects focused on environmental justice and clean energy.
“The Climate Corps represents a significant step forward in engaging and nurturing young leaders who are passionate about climate action, furthering our journey towards a sustainable and equitable future,” Regan said.
The ACC’s executive committee will hold its first meeting within the next 30 days. It will draw support from a new climate hub within AmeriCorps, as well as any staffing the agency heads designate."

Things Biden and the Democrats did, this week. #5
Feb 9-16 2024
The Department of Education released the first draft for a wide ranging student loan forgiveness plan. After Biden's first attempt at student debt forgiveness was struck down at the Supreme Court in 2023, this new plan is an attempt to replace it with something that will hold up in court. The plan hopes to forgive debt for anyone facing "financial hardship" which has been as broadly defined as possible. Another part of the plan hopes to eliminate $10-20,000 in interest from all student loans, as well as a wide ranging public Information push to inform people of other forgiveness programs they qualify for but don't know about.
The House passed 1.2 Billion Dollars to combat human trafficking, including $175 million in housing assistance to human trafficking victims
The Department of Transportation announced $970 Million for improvements at 114 airports across 44 states and 3 territories. They include $40 million to O'Hare International in Chicago to improve passenger experience by reconfiguring TSA and baggage claims, and installing ADA compliant bathrooms(!). The loans will also go to connecting airports to mass transit, boosted sustainability, installing solar and wind power, and expanding service to under served committees around the country.
Medicare & Medicaid released new guidelines to allow people to pay out of pocket prescription drug coats in monthly installments rather than as a lump sum. This together with capping the price of certain drugs and penalties for drug companies that rise prices over inflation is expected to save the public millions on drug coasts and assure people don't pass on a prescription because they can't pay upfront
The EPA announced its adding 150 more communities to its Closing America's Wastewater Access Gap Community Initiative. 2.2 Million Americans do not have basic running water and indoor plumbing. Broken and unreliable wastewater infrastructure exposed many of those to dangerous raw sewage. These Americans live primarily in poor and rural communities, many predominantly Black communities in the south as well as those on tribal lands. The program is aiming to close the wastewater gap and insure all Americans have access to reliable clear water.
The White House announced deferred action for Palestinians in the US. This means any Palestinian living in the United States, no mater their legal status, can not be deported for any reason for the next 18 months.
The Department of Energy announced $60 million in investment into clean geothermal energy. The plan will hopefully lead to a 90% decrease in the coasts of geothermal. DOE estimates hold that geothermal might be able to power the hopes of 65 million Americans by 2050 making it a key step in the Biden administration plan for a carbon-free grid by 2035 and net-zero emissions by 2050.
The EPA launched $83 million to help improve air quality monitoring across America. With updated equipment local agencies will be better able to report on air quality, give more localized reports of bad air quality and the country will be better equipped to start mitigating the problem
The Department of Energy announced $63 million in investments in domestic heat-pump manufacturing. Studies have shown that heat-pumps reduce green house gases by 50% over the most efficient condensing gas boilers, as technology improves this could rise to 75% by 2030. Heat pump water heaters meanwhile are 2 to 3 times as energy efficient as conventional electric water heaters.
HHS awarded $5.1 million to organizations working with LGBTQI+ Youth and their Families. The programs focus on preventing homelessness, fighting depression and suicide, drug use and HIV prevention and treatment, as well as  family counseling and support interventions tailored for LGBTQI+ families.
The House passed two bills in support of the oppressed Uyghur minority in China. The "No Dollars To Uyghur Forced Labor" Act would prohibit the US government from spending any money on projects that source materials from Xinjiang. The Uyghur Policy Act would create a permanent post at the State Department to coordinate policy on Uyghur Issues, much like the special ambassador on antisemitism.

Hi I seen ur requests are open so I wondering if you could possibly write sugar mommy hcs for Farah and/or valeria plz!😋
this is so good I just had to do it asap. i need drabbles for this too
Sugar mommy dynamics (HCs) - Valeria, Farah, Laswell
Tumblr media
includes: kate laswell, farah karim, valeria garza (this is for the gay girls)
fem!reader, female anatomy, fem terms of endearment
warnings: nsfw content, dirty talk, spanking, use of straps/toys, fingering, degradation, consumption of alcohol,
word count: 1.8k, aprox. 600 words/ character
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Valeria Garza (smut + fluff)
sugar mommy supreme
this woman is richer than god and her love language is gift giving
i don't see a better combo for a sugar baby
and she's a busy woman, she doesn't have time for relationships so this is right up her alley
i feel like it happened a little more or less by chance
like she was just talking about it one day to one of her men or he overheard her
and he subtly mentioned you because you were actively looking for a sugar mommy
neither of you knew what to expect at first, but after meeting her...
you went home and masturbated to a scenario about her
you were both on board with it being sexual from the get go so that worked out
makes you update a wishlist regularly and buys everything you put on it
sometimes you'd put an item there at night and wake up with the package at your door the next day
her card? black like her soul
and she just handed it to you one day like?
made you do a little runway show with all of the stuff you got with it
goes shopping with you to de-stress
she likes it more than you do, like this woman is making you try everything in the store if she wants to
makes you twirl so she can see the full outfit before smirking and nodding approvingly
holds the clothes for you while you're inside the store so you can browse easily
her guard carries the bags afterwards
this woman buys you designer on the regular
even though she doesn't wear it herself because it gets ruined on the job, she loves it on you
she took you to a fancy dinner with her business partners once
put you in a dress that costs more than your whole apartment (and a set of really nice lingerie underneath)
she made you cum all over the expensive fabric, squirming while she fingered you in the backseat of her car
"you're being so filthy, muñequita. por Dios, you even ruined your dress"
spanked you for being so "inconsiderate" even though it was her fault that you had a pool of cum dripping down your thighs
talking about spanking, she definitely spanks you with designer belts
like this woman does not care how much it costs
that piece of leather can pay off your rent for months
she'd probably pay off your student loans/ pay in advance for your rent and utilities
gives you a weekly allowance, sometimes buys you extra stuff if you've been good
her favorite thing to buy for you? lingerie and sex toys
makes you send her videos of you wearing them/using them on yourself
talking about texting, I think she'd leave you be most of the time since she's so busy
also enjoys the fact that you're a bare minimum engagement type of deal
she's just happy someone isn't pestering her 24/7, while she gets the advantages of making a girl squirt happy
she's constantly traveling and you don't see her for weeks sometimes
you asked her what she does because you got curious
"don't worry your pretty little head with useless details, cariño"
but she expects you to show up when she tells you to
on time, god forbid you're late
she had to wait for five minutes, you had to listen to her complain for hours
while her favorite strap stretched you out so good
makes you apologize and beg for forgiveness, promise you won't be late again
while bullying her strap into your already sensitive pussy, crying from the overstimulation as you whimper out promises and pathetic 'sorrys'
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Farah Karim (fluff, i love Farah fluff okay?)
you still don't understand how it happened
like one day she was the cute regular customer at the coffee shop you worked at
and the next she was taking care of your rent and restocking your fridge
she just wanted to help you out since she had more than enough for herself
you didn't expect her to be that rich? because when she was a customer she was always dressed normal
don't get me wrong, she looked bomb, but she never gave off that 'i'm rich, look at me' energy
and she still doesn't, literally buys you the cutest stuff out of the kindness of her heart
keeps it casual, doesn't expect you to pay her back in any way
she can't help but smile when you kiss her cheek as a thank you after she hands you your allowance
doesn't want to pressure you into anything, she just likes the idea of taking care of someone
doordashes groceries for you because she knows you're too lazy to do them yourself
checks up on you every once in a while, mostly asks you to come over to keep her company and just chat
but you were renovating your apartament for a few days and you decided to stay with her
made sure you were nice and comfortable in the guest room and got everything you needed
also made sure to leave a few little gifts on your bed on your first day
got you some books and your favorite treats to keep you company while she's gone to work
and you realized you actually liked spending time with her and that her attention made you happy
so when she got home from work, two days before you were meant to leave you decided to speed things up a little
so surprised when you straddled her lap while she was talking
she thought you felt pressured to do it
she tried to start one of her monologues before you stopped her
you got so bold??? like just telling her you like her and it's not because she practically is your main source of income but because she's so nice as a person
baby got so touched she had to go smoke a cig to calm down
and now she's your girlfriend and sugar mommy
weekly dates (as long as she's not gone with work, makes up for it when she's back tho) to your favorite restaurants/locations in general
hates physical shopping but will power through for you
grabs whatever she thinks you'd look cute in and makes you try it
you got so so flustered when she gave you a revealing outfit to try on
she had already bought it in her head before you even tried it on
also loves to spoil you with little things
like getting you gorgeous flowers every week, making sure they're replaced before they wilt
ordering your favorite food for you when she works long nights
buying you the nicest skincare/makeup because she sees how your face lights up from it
i feel like she'd always bring a trinket home (uhaul lesbian things)
something that melts your heart too because she really pays attention to everything you say
like getting a box of pastries from that really luxurious bakery that's close to her office
buying you a new pair of sneakers because they match the outfit she got you last week
literally bought you a stunning outfit for your one year anniversary
dress, heels, jewelery everything designer because fuck it she loves spoiling you rotten
money comes on her card and leaves it, but you're a forever type of investment
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kate Laswell (fluff + smut)
canon mommy
also a sugar baby's dream
she paid for your drink (TF 141 went wild when they saw her)
so she pulled you to the side and paid for the rest of your consumption too and for your taxi back home
a bit sad when you told her you weren't looking for a relationship
so she did what's best and spoke to your capitalism rotten brain and asked to be your sugar mommy
you had shit to pay off okay? and she was hot and spoke to your mommy issues...
takes it slow until she doesn't anymore (with consent ofc!)
when she asked you to hang out at her place and drink some wine, you didn't think anything of it
that was until you were bent over the couch, hands pinned down as she scissored your pussy open
made a little bet with you, every minute you could last without having an orgasm, she'd give you your allowance's worth in cold hard cash
you were cocky until she stuck that fucking vibrator inside of you
she pushed it in so deep and made sure it was hitting that sweet spot that made your whole body weak
didn't even need to wait too long before you squirted on her expensive couch
you didn't get a lot of money that night....
and you lost some of your dignity too
made sure to send over a bouquet of flowers to your workplace to remind you of how expensive house cleaning got these days
so fucking cocky and flirty when she feels like it
but also a sweetheart
would regularly ask you if you were doing well and eating properly
has food delivered to your door everyday so she knows you have a balanced diet
makes you take so many days off from work until you just decide to quit
she's way too happy knowing that you're now so much more available for her use
entertains the idea of being your only source of income for a bit
"you can just relax, take it easy. i'll take care of things for you"
busy woman no. 2
but she'd never forget to take you out on a fancy date somewhere really expensive to remind you how nice she treats you
made sure you had everything you'd ever need and then fed into your little whims and fantasies
doesn't have enough time to spare for you to show her what you got but she'd be happy inside knowing you were entertained and pleased
offers to send you on your dream vacation since she can't go
you beg her for so long until she finds a way to take a short break and enjoy her time with you there
this woman is literally working in the hotel while you go out shopping
you give her a nice massage after she finishes most of it because she deserves it <3
gets room service the next day for the both of you and spends the rest of the day cuddling you and visiting places
she definitely didn't develop feelings and neither did you, no not at all
she's upfront about it because really, what's the point?
she's too old to play the whole 'chase' thing
so while you're enjoying the jacuzzi in your room and sipping on some wine, she decides that's the best moment
you nearly choke on the wine
but she looks so...<3 and you know she'd treat you so well...

Hello I was just wondering if you've seen Imani Barbarin talk about not voting (https://x.com/imani_barbarin/status/1747723080917492020?s=46&t=55h0eHrgY7FtQI8ej54maw)? I saw you reblog the post about "not waiting for the morally pure candidate" and I think that's a willful misrepresentation of what Gen Z is feeling
We've not seen Biden address ANY of the things the post claims (climate change is the only one I remember without scrolling back) but we have seen him approve more oil licenses than trump, drop more bombs than trump, support a genocide, abandon disabled people and any Covid mitigations during the second highest surge since the start of the pandemic (with less testing so odds are things r even worse than we can tell), bring back student debt, etc etc
As a Gen Z'r, I genuinely want to understand how y'all can believe "no vote is a vote for fascism" when both candidates are horrendous? Why is the onus on us and not the politicians to do better instead of pointing fingers and saying "at least we're better than Trump" when that is categorically untrue?
I'm sorry if this is too rant-y I'm just so furious and frustrated with my perception of older voters' complacency with being given utter shit instead of organizing for better
I am trying very hard to be reasoned and understanding about this- bearing in mind that we want the same things in the end and I'mnot jazzed for Biden either -when it's extremely, EXTREMELY obvious to me that Trump is worse.
Like.
If he gets elected there might not be another election. The man was theoretically willing to use military force to quell protests if he lost the 2020 election (why he didn't, I don't know; but I'm not willing to give him that chance a second time).
Trump has called himself a dictator, proudly, in the same breath as saying "we're closing the border and we're drilling, drilling, drilling." Biden does NOT remotely have a perfect record on either of those things- he was locked into some construction of the border wall by how the funds had already been allocated by Congress during the Trump administration, but not everything he's done in relation to it, which also pisses me off. As for the oil thing, it's a bit more complicated than it seems on the surface: not as simple as "he doesn't actually care about the environment" even as it's definitely not a good move or in line with his stated climate goals.
As for those climate goals, I found this interesting article that rates key areas of climate action and how they've fared during the Biden administration. It was updated in January, and it is not sycophantically uncritical across the board. But that is LEAGUES more progress than we'd get under a system of "drilling, drilling, drilling" with absolutely no concessions to the climate crisis at all.
His handling of the situation in Palestine...yeah, I struggle with that, too. I know he's been trying to talk their leaders down, to some degree, but it's not nearly enough to me. And I STRONGLY disagree with us selling them weapons. However, Trump's statements on the matter- calling for a ban on Gazan refugees in the US, calling pro-Palestinian protestors "barbarians," and saying he'd revoke the student visa of anyone he deemed "anti-American" -makes me believe that letting him get into power is not something my conscience would allow, vis a vis the fate of the Palestinian people. Because it would be exponentially worse.
I also think the material good that has happened under the Biden administration has been...MASSIVELY under-publicized. Because like. He HAS addressed things. Lots of things, in fact.
this article from last year was too early to include pardoning thousands of people federally convicted of simple marijuana possession (again, not perfect, but still very good), setting new rules to limit methane emissions, capping prices for at least some major insulin producers, partial student loan debt forgiveness (tried to do more, but got hamstrung by Republicans), cancelling oil leases granted by Trump in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (not enough given the leases HE granted, but it's not nothing either), and much more I'm sure I'm overlooking. Because, again, nobody's been talking about it. It sells more news subscriptions to feed readers an endless stream of what Biden is doing wrong- which I am not denying! -leaving people with the dangerous impression that both sides are the same. Republicans would not have done any of this. That's just the truth of the matter.
Look, I would like a better option, too. I would love to actually LIKE a presidential candidate in my lifetime. I'd love one who wouldn't make concessions to the interests of selfish, heartless people with ledgers where their sense of human compassion should be. I just don't see that person coming to power between now and November.
And I'll take someone who is Standard US Politician Slimy but at least makes some improvements (unfortunately, I doubt there's anyone with a chance of winning in less than a year who doesn't support Israel to some degree, since this country have a long history of that) over someone who might actually stage a right-wing military coup, and who would kill me and other marginalized people himself if he thought it would get him more fame and fortune.
Some people say their conscience won't let them vote Biden. I can't tell them what to do. But if he gets the Democratic nomination, my conscience wouldn't let me do anything else.

∆ please help us
we can not afford any of our basic needs
i usually try to keep this as light as possible, but i have put this off for long enough that i have to post this. me and my partner desperately need help. we are just two gay people trying to make it alone here with absolutely no support system. *remaking because the first post died
who we are: im j (or jet), im 24 year old trans guy whose had this account since 2014. i married my partner in 2018, we even met on tumblr when we were younger, we've been together for years. my partner is disabled (diagnosed with autism and seizure disorder and others)
what we need: basic needs, help with vet care, dental emergency assistance and general support. our cat had an emergency surgery two years ago that means he needs to be on a prescription diet (hills urinary food) for his entire life. the vet suddenly said we need to bring him in again to get his prescription renewed and we cant order any more food for him until then, which he will not survive without, and he is not allowed to eat any alternative food without risking his life. we have less than half of a 8 lb bag of it which will not last him through the next month. with the vet, food, and ubers to get to the vet and to the only place they sell the food = 200
to try to summarize our situation, we were kicked out by family and made officially homeless for the first time last year. this is right after we moved across states (wa to az) to support my partners family upon their request, only to be subjected to abuse and kicked out directly due to homophobia in an unfamiliar state after a few months. this left both of us and all of our animals entirely homeless. we luckily have an apartment now but our situation isnt stable. we lost all of our belongings at this time, everything we had built, and have not been able to replace them as we have very fixed income. my partner is especially affected by this situation, as it was traumatizing, and they have just had to power through trauma after trauma because of poverty, more than i can say.
i also have severe and painful dental problems that are not covered by medicaid in az and i have no way to afford. this includes wisdom teeth, root canals, and many cavities that will turn into that crazy expensive treatment if i don't fix it. some may remember my post about this (+this) showing the work i need. i cant keep ignoring it, because they are worried about two of the cavities becoming root canals, and i want to prevent another infection, but thats at least 250 each i also lost a cap and need to replace it to save the tooth, but that's at least 600.
we are still not going to be able to afford rent in future months because our EBT was delayed last month and i had to spend money we don't have, and without student loan forgiveness, my partner will not have loans anymore so we are in serious jeopardy even affording rent, let alone bills. our pets (2 cats 1 small dog) also desperately need vaccinations, which is dangerous to keep going this overdue without with their health problems. our dog has also been limping for the past week and he needs to be seen when that is ever possible, at least 65 plus ubers.
any donations would go first to the vet appointment and cat food, then the other needs in order of priority. will keep updating this, i know its a lot and i really don't expect anything as i know it's well over 1000 for it all, i am begging for help with any of this.
we are both students, we are trying to work towards stability, while being stuck here. i do everything i can to bring in money to support us on my own. we make 200 less than rent is monthly. i am in school to become a caseworker so i am aware of a lot of resources in my area, and have applied for everything, but we can not do this alone which is why i have to ask for help. i am so sorry for having to do this but i appreciate any support that i do have because of this website. you guys literally save my life. helping out other poor people and getting helped out on here has been the most compassion ive ever been a part of. dollars, even pennies, worth of donations has kept my cat safe, has affected me in real ways. it actually matters to us, no matter the amount.
thank you anyone who reblogs, donates anything at all, or reaches out

In October, tens of millions of borrowers will be required to pay their monthly federal student loan bills for the first time since March 2020, the Department of Education clarified Monday.
The pandemic-related pause on both payments and interest accumulation has been set to end later this summer, though the exact date payments would be due was a little fuzzy.
The Biden administration had previously said that the pause would end either 60 days after June 30 or 60 days after the Supreme Court rules on the separate student loan forgiveness program – whichever comes first.
A law passed in early June to address the debt ceiling officially prevented the pandemic-related pause from being extended again. The repayment date has been extended a total of eight times under both the Biden and Trump administrations.
“Student loan interest will resume starting on September 1, 2023, and payments will be due starting in October. We will notify borrowers well before payments restart,” the Department of Education said in a statement sent to CNN Monday.
The update was first reported by Politico.
Borrowers typically receive their bill statements from their loan servicer a few weeks before they are due. Not every borrower’s bill is due at the same time of the month.
The Department of Education has said that it will be in direct communication with borrowers and ramp up its communication with student loan servicers before repayment resumes.
Student loan experts recommend that borrowers reach out to their student loan servicer with any questions about their loans as soon as possible, especially if they are interested in enrolling in an income-driven repayment plan. Those plans, which set payments based on income and family size, can lower monthly payments but require borrowers to submit some paperwork.
Federal student loan borrowers can check the Federal Student Aid website for updates on resuming payments.
SOME BORROWERS COULD BE AT RISK OF DEFAULT
Some borrowers may struggle to resume paying their monthly student loan bills.
More student loan borrowers are currently behind on other kinds of bills than they were before the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a recent study by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
The report also said that about 1 in 5 student loan borrowers have risk factors that suggest they could struggle when scheduled payments resume, like being delinquent on student loan payments before the pandemic or having multiple student loan servicers.
When payments restart, many people might be confused about how much they owe, when to pay and how. Millions of borrowers will have a different servicer handling their student loans since the last time they made a payment.
Originally, the pause on federal student loan payments was put in place to help borrowers struggling financially due to the pandemic.
From a jobs perspective, the economy has largely recovered from the pandemic-related disruptions. In May, 3.7 million more people were working than in February 2020.
But there are some soft spots. Major layoffs have recently been announced at big companies like Disney and Amazon. Earlier this year, a regional banking crisis was set off by the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, the largest bank to fail since the 2008 financial crisis. And inflation remains high but is cooling after reaching a 40-year peak last year.
STUDENT LOAN FORGIVENESS STILL ON THE TABLE
Meanwhile, all eyes are on the Supreme Court as borrowers wait to see if the Biden administration will be allowed to move forward with its student loan forgiveness program. A decision is expected in late June or early July.
Under the proposal, individual borrowers who made less than $125,000 in either 2020 or 2021 and married couples or heads of households who made less than $250,000 a year could see up to $10,000 of their federal student loan debt forgiven.
If a qualifying borrower also received a federal Pell grant while enrolled in college, the individual is eligible for up to $20,000 of debt forgiveness.
But several lawsuits argue that the Biden administration is abusing its power and using the pandemic as a pretext for fulfilling the president’s campaign pledge to cancel student debt.
No debt has been canceled yet. But if the Supreme Court allows the program to take effect, it’s possible the government moves quickly to forgive the debts of 16 million borrowers who the administration already approved for relief.
If the Justices strike down Biden’s student loan forgiveness program, it could be possible for the administration to make some modifications to the policy and try again – though that process could take months.

Okay, I know we're all disappointed that Biden didn't forgive all the student debt like we had hoped, but I just finished applying for my updated income-driven repayment plan after finishing Round 2 of grad school, and the SAVE plan is life changing.
Prior to grad school, I was making $62K per year, and my student loan payments were around $500 per month. Income driven repayment plans were calculated based on 15% of your "discretionary" income, which was counted as anything over a certain amount relative to the federal poverty level for your household size. I had basically stopped contributing to my retirement accounts at work because I couldn't afford it.
On the SAVE plan, I recorded my current income of $67K per year, and my student loan payments are estimated at $150! Despite making $5000 more per year, my payment has gone down significantly! The calculator takes into account money spent on health insurance premiums and money saved towards your retirement, lowering your payments accordingly. The new plan also requires you pay 10% rather than 15% of your discretionary income.
That $350 per month is an absolute life saver for me. It also means that once I'm at my new job, I can set my retirement savings at an actually comfortable level instead of worrying about how much my student loan payments will eat into it.

I think the Buckley siblings are definitely upper class and they never really had to worry about money. Not because of the down payment on the house, because of everything. We know Buck had college money and he spent them on his bike and going around the world to find yourself is not really something people who struggle with money do. Also I think both SEAL training and FIRE academy aren’t free and that’s not really something you can pay with bartending tips. Buck entire lifestyle is very rich kid coded: moving out of a house you don’t pay to an apartment you rent for sentimental reasons, planning hot balloon dates, suing the LAFD (lawyers are very expensive) and his whole vibe.
Sorry, this answer is long! 9-1-1 isn't particularly known for its accuracy regarding the earnings of first responders. We forgive that because it's fictional.
Update: According to their website, All LAFD programs are free aside from the $73 signup fee and also states, 'The Department does not charge for any of our recruitment and mentoring services.'
The Buckley siblings are not trustfund babies. I’m not saying their parents aren't well-off, I don’t doubt that, but it doesn't mean they shared their wealth with their adult children (until helping Madney with the deposit.) I’m saying ‘adult’ because I believe while they were growing up, the parents funded everything parents are expected to: clothes, food, etc.
Let’s work with what we know. In Buck Begins, Maddie says ‘I'm gonna go nights so I can work during the day, pay for it myself. That way, I won't need to ask Mom and Dad for anything ever again.” I’m guessing that despite their parents doing their bare minimum of what is expected, they weren’t too kind about it, highlighted by how Maddie says this line. She knows she’ll either not get the financial support from her parents, in becoming a nurse, or they’ll complain about it if they do.  So, she goes it alone, deciding to almost work twenty-four days so she doesn’t have to ask them for money!
In 4x04, while arguing with his parents, he says this, “She married Doug, and you cut her off.” Maddie was married to Doug for eleven years, that’s eleven years no contact with her parents, after they cut her off. Cut off contact, and likely cut any kind of financial support. They wanted nothing to do with her, as Buck repeatedly points out in this scene.
What about Boston? I’ve seen that so many times on twitter. How did Maddie afford to live in Boston for six months and get expensive medical treatment? Doug’s life insurance. She received $400, 000. She says in 5x13, “I used most of my savings when I left,” which matches the belief that she used this money to fund her care in Boston.
Now, you’re right about Buck’s college tuition money. “Maybe you use your tuition money to make some cool modifications on your bike.” We don’t know for sure if this was entirely funded by his parents or if he had student loans. Since I am British, all I know about college is from movies, apparently some parents will keep college funds aside from their children as standard. So perhaps, yes, he did have a tuition fee paid by his parents, which maybe is why he rebelled.  Remember this is young, angry and restless Buck, he was likely to burn through that money like it meant nothing, because being reckless or getting hurt, was his way of gaining his parents attention.
But more importantly, is what happened next. When Buck leaves Hershey, Maddie gives him her Jeep and some of her own money. “Look, I can give you a little bit of money to get started, and then you can go anywhere you want.” It is Maddie who funds Buck’s ticket out of that house, giving up her two means of escape. Savings she had, from working her arse off in Boston and as a nurse! Now, Buck’s dynamic with his sister, is so different to his parents. He likely kept that money very safe and was incredibly frugal because Maddie gave it to him. So, it was more special.
Quite explicitly, we see that Buck never settles down when he’s on the road. He goes, from one place, to the next, to the next. Picking up many jobs. Likely couch surfing, sleeping in the jeep, or cheap motels, Buck didn’t have hefty bills to pay! He could save up, on the road.  All those years of traveling around, and saving would fund NAVY Seals and Firefighter training. What also helped, is he lived in a Frat House, not making him financially liable for all the bills, which were split evenly across all the guys. Then he lived in Abby’s apartment, where once again, he wasn’t paying any bills. With a fireman’s salary, while living in a frat house, and sharing the bills, he likely found it easier to save. Making it easier to fund a hot air balloon ride, a nice studio apartment, and then a lawyer!
They do call Buck's place a "frat house," but I'm not sure how true that was, but if it was an actual frat house and he didn't make any payments, that's more savings. But I don't think he wanted to stay in the frat house.
Buck also couch-surfed in LA! He lived with Chimney and then Maddie, for a considerable amount of time before ever moving into his apartment. Time he likely spent saving.
Anyway, that’s what we know. I still can’t ever believe the Buckley parents ever set up trustfunds. Neither Maddie nor Buck saw a dime after they left or were cut off. Not until more recently now that the Buckley Parents are attempting to make an effort. Still, Buck and Maddie grew up self-efficient, relying on each other, not their parents.
On an unrelated note, I would be interested to see a storyline of when one of their parents passes away though. If they do get left with money, I wonder if it would strike up the argument that money doesn't fix all the problems and neglect they experienced during their childhood and beyond.
