I'm sorry to share that the Friday before last I put Studio Assistant to sleep.

I've had Gimble in my life for around ten years, ever since he showed up in the yard as an adult stray who was so friendly, the very first time I sat down to pet him he immediately walked right onto my legs and curled up for a nap.

Two and a half years ago he was diagnosed with heart disease, and it was all thanks to his laid back attitude that I was able to give him multiple pills a day and keep him going strong. I thought knowing for years that we were on borrowed time would make the loss easier in some way but it definitely hasn't. I'm grateful for the extra time we had but it still feels too soon.

Part of me feels very awkward sharing personal updates on social media. As a recovering over-sharer I sometimes wonder if I've swung too far in the other direction, so much so that sharing a very normal yet significant life event feels like too much. And maybe I've been putting this off because posting about him publicly is, in some strange way, making his death feel that much more final.

I hope everyone with a furry friend gives them an extra thousand kisses tonight! They deserve it.
