Sneak peak progress on the refined digital scratchboard draft for Wheel of Fortune for Umbral Wings. Iām so excited for how this is going to turn out. Iām less excited about the insane amount of goldfish Iāll have to scratch in the process. It is a hell of my own making, and it is full of goldfish.
Progress on the 78 Tarot Nautical tarot cardāI work on a digital draft before working on the actual scratchboard. My card is the 10 of cups, featuring a family of stingrays!
So in between novel editing, beta reading other peopleās novels, working on commission backlog, and whipping up two different tarot cards, Iām starting to gear up for con season. See this stack? This is my āto restockā stack for terrariums. ā¦ā¦Send prayers and caffeine.
So, studio assistant Sisu made most viral on Imgur with this lovely derpy photograph my boyfriend snapped that the internet peeps enjoyed photoshopping. XD
Hey there peeps! Iām excited to announce that once again Iāve been invited to contribute to 78 Tarot! Their theme this year is Nautical! Iām so stokedāI grew up by the ocean and could swim before I could walk. Bring on the sea life!
Now that CryptoZoo is at the editor, I can start designing and thumbnailing dragons for the Umbral Wings tarot deck. And what better background noise than Nathan playing in a live orchestra!
PHEW! After several weeks of editing and rewrites, CryptoZoo is officially at the editorās for line edits! So excitedābarring any significant changes or delays, my goal is to have books available by June at the latest, and Iām aiming for a Sci-Fi Valley Con in-person debut!
Hey there peeps! Iām excited to announce that I will once again be a contributing artist to a Catstealerās Tarot Deckāthis time the sequel to the dragon-themed Radiant Scales, Umbral Wings! Stay tuned for sneak peeks and updates on this exciting collaborative project.

"Whether youāre writing a story set in a galaxy far, far away, an enchanted forest, Brooklyn NYC, an ancient dojo, or a far future dystopia, how do you keep track of your characters and worldbuilding? You can make a story bible! A story bible is a tool to help any author organize the aspects of their world-buildingāthe cultures, rules of magic and/or science, weather, politics, ecology, economy, and all other kinds of nitty gritty details, timelines of important plot points and histories, and character interviews and designsāin a handy physical or digital body of reference for when youāre fleshing out your later drafts. In this lecture we will talk about how to make or acquire the right kind of book, what kind of materials to use (no drawing skills requiredāand if you are an artist, GO NUTS), what kind of information to include and how to organize it depending on the kind of story you are writing, and how to use your bible to add layers of depth to your characters and stories. A Q&A will follow.ā
The webinar will be hosted virtually over Zoom February 26th at 7pm EST.
To sign up for the webinar is $15 for Non SCBWI members, $10 for members, and you can find all the info here and registration here--> https://www.scbwi.org/events/book-bibles-with-jd-donnelly
