An east London youth drama group improvises scenes based upon their everyday life. They hung around a theatre run director Joan Littlewood, located in the East End of London. The gang regularly harassed actors and theatregoers. Eventually, the exasperated director invited the youngsters inside the theatre and ultimately convinced them to attend a theatrical course. Barney Platts-Mills decided to document that experience by directing the colour film Everybody’s an Actor, Shakespeare Said (1968), which lasts 31 minutes.

Explaining J-fashion sub cultures #1, Jirai kei
______________________________________________________________
WARNING!! This blog discuses about certain triggering topics such as suicide, illegal/violent behaviours, self harm, alcoholism and more. This post isn't graphic but if mentions of these topics trigger you, please click off/scroll away (っ◞‸◟ c)
______________________________________________________________
Hi hi hi everyone! I'm starting a new series discussing J-fashion sub cultures! If anything was incorrect or lost in translation, feel free to comment and tell me, so I can edit it ♡⸜(˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶)⸝♡
Moving on... Today we will be discussing Jirai kei!
Jirai kei is a relatively new fashion subcultre that popped up in the early 2020's that was based off/created in the area of Kabukicho. It has kind of an edgy look, usually paired with colours like black and pink (most common), or white and blue.
Now, where did the name Jirai Kei come from? In Japanese, 地雷 (jirai) is used as a slang term for describing something "dangerous" or "violent". 地雷 directly translates to landmine, henceforth the English name also being landmine girl. The reason why it is called jirai is that it is seen that the women/girls who participate in this sub culture are seen as violent, mentally unstable or manipulative. Jirai Onna (地雷女) is used as a derogatory term towards women. In the sub culture, the women who participate are Jirai Joshi (地雷女子) aka landmine women, and men, Jirai Dashi (地雷男子) aka landmine men.
Following on, the origins come from a Japanese Youtuber SuReRo who went viral in 2020 March, the term has since then gradually turned into a subculture. It is also said that the origins come from Toyoko kids. Toyoko kids are kids who are usually seen in Kabukicho who are "run away kids" aged 10-18.
Now onto the brighter topics, the style comes from other styles such as Japanese girly fashion and yami kawaii. Some of the style basics consist of, high-waisted skirts or shorts adorned with laces and frills usually in colour pallets like black and pink being the most common, white and blue, and occasionally red and black. Mary Janes are very popular considering that most shoes worn with jirai kei are platformers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the hair and makeup, the makeup consists of an exaggerated version of byojaku with a red or pink under eye blush. Usually their foundation is very pale, and the makeup exaggerates a tear bag or ageyo sal. For the hair, pigtails with black hair, highlights and bangs is very common in jirai kei but, there are many other hairstyles to try from in jirai kei!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next off, the reason that this sub culture is seen in a derogatory way comes from some criticism/controversies, such as mental illness, self harm, drug usage, sex work, underage prostitution, and other topics. And unfortunately, it is not uncommon to see most followers of this community participate in these activities.
In the community, most people encourage hyper consumerism and trend cycling, which can be problematic for western people because of the high shipping fees of proxies.
(little comment from me) I think another damaging thing is that a lot of people in the sub culture over use filters and heavily edit their face, which can be VERY damaging to your self-esteem.

So like. Are the core tenants of Emo not "embracing dark emotion and finding reasons to live in Music and Community" or the tenants of Goth not "finding beauty and love in the macabre and the tragic and the unacceptable" and the Music is just like A Part or A Topping of a subculture primarily based around an alternative ideology?
Is this actually all about Music Types and Aesthetics and I've just been to Alt Subcultres as Monkey D Luffy is to Piracy and completely misinterpreting what this stuff stands for while everyone else goes "The hell are xey on about?"

The only online subcultre more deranged than q-anon is a gang of profoundly unintelligent fujos who have spent the past decade coming up with the most demented and ridiculous conspiracy theories all to justify that This Guy is actually fucking Harry Styles. This chip shop looking guy. They think the real baby he had with a real woman is a reborn doll that has been gradually getting replaced by different child actors throughout the years to match its growth Five Nights At Freddie's The Fourth Closet style

I KNOW you’ve been waiting to hear about the data we gathered from the State of K1nk Survey. The results are FINALLY in! We had responses from over 500 anonymous kinksters (548 to be exact)! If you we’re one of those--thank you! If you missed it, this is what the survey was about:    During the height of the "panini" most in-person #kinkcommunity gatherings were canceled. Without access to munches, conventions, classes, dunge0ns, ply parties, etc many k1nksters sought out online alternatives. Others found community during this time. The purpose of this survey was to investigate how lockdown affected kiki folx feelings of connectedness with community, partners & their own qinki identity. All responses were anonymous. The results were FASCINATING! And really insightful about the direction that the greater BDSM community/subcultre may be moving in. In addition to viewing the results and generalized excerpts from some of the anonymized text responses, you’ll get to read my conclusions & analysis as well. In fact, I wrote a whole article about it.   Can you read it now? NOPE!  Bummer! So, when? On Wednesday 6/8 when the @ZipperMagDotCom site goes live!  Just 2 more sleeps & you get all that juicy BDSM/K1nk lifestyle related multimedia content! Then each week there will be more! Hang tight, we’re *almost* there!  In the meantime, what was your experience like as a k1nkster during lockdown? Did it k1ll your vibe? Did did the community, play & friendship you found online surprise you? Did you use Discord for the first time? How do you think the last 2 yrs of your k1nk journey would have been different if things were "normal?" Are you back to events now? Or is the virus still cramping your style? Let's discuss! #kinklifestyle #kinkeducation #KinkIsCustomizable https://www.instagram.com/p/CefARTQpJdN/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

na i get you like obvs lesbians are lesbians n bi women r bi women, our attraction pools are different, but ppl on this site can kind of.. over exaggerate the differences bw our lived experiences n it's always strange to me to see ppl talk abt romance bw women n related subcultures + experiences like they're lesbian exclus things n bi women don't rly 'get' them.
yeah i feel u,, like i see ppl imply that bi women dont „get“ having complicated relationships w their gender/presentation and its like... thats not an us exclusive thing
im personally protective as the b/f thing because those subcultures are defined by exclusive attraction to women and only women, and not wanting to be seen by men. its not because bi women dont understand/expirence the same things we do because as i said earlier besides other lesbians, bi women understand us in a rather intimate way. its just the differences that are there are rlly important

In light of the anti reaction to this reclist that I reblogged, which apparently had a secret wincesties dni addendum, I would like to tell you that I am not responsible for going into your stupid blog on a website designed for the PUBLIC sharing of content to check and see if you don’t want my little tiny goblin hands on your post! Even if I did go out of my way to do that, I can still reblog your shit if I want! If you don’t want your precious pure thought-policing sweet baby wholesome ideas to be tarnished by the words of strangers with their own opinions, don't post on the internet? Keep a diary? Use a different website with friends-only functionality??
I am NOT responsible for your experience on Tumblr. If my actions make you uncomfortable, it’s on you to block ME. (Also just as a side note: the reclist in question contains links to works that are hosted on AO3, which is the ultimate proship wincest-positive fanfic safe haven, so maybe stop being a hypocrite and learn some fandom history.) ANYWAY. Since I’m a good responsible internet boy, I’ve been keeping tabs on a post about how gross wincesties are that was made in response to this kerfluffle so I can block any accounts that interact with it in an effort to curate my experience, and I just want to share this fun comment someone left (names blocked because this is NOT a call out post. Everyone on this website is, unfortunately, welcome to their terrible opinions):

THE WHOLE POINT IS TO NOT KEEP THE ‘SUBCULTRE’ TO OURSELVES YOU ROTTEN CUCUMBER-BRAINED FOOL! IT’S FICTION, YOU SAID IT YOURSELF! WE’RE ALLOWED TO SHARE FICTION! THE WHOLE POINT OF STORIES IS TO SHARE THEM!
Just as a thought experiment: replace “fiction” with “harmless” and “wincest shippers” with “gay people.” 👀 not a great look, is all i’m saying, chief.

disclaimer
when it comes to subcultures
the subcultres that I like the most will have the most music on there
the ones I don’t like or dislike are getting the least
same with mainstream music
also I don’t like hardstyle so its only going to be one song.

Hey so real quick lets talk about oc/canon character shipping or self insert shipping.
Im kinda old when it comes to fandom culture, I've been around the block a few times and seen many forms of discourse and drama when it comes to people making self inserts and oc's ESPECIALLY when they ship them with canon characters.
Back in the day fandom culture was alot more mean and ruthless when it came to this stuff. Oc's/canon or self shippers were bullied and shamed and called cringe for YEARS. I used to self ship and make oc's for oc/canon shipping in the 00's and slowly became more and more scared to do until i stopped because of all of the relentless bullying because people wanna have fun and smooch fiction characters i guess???
So im glad theres been a big positive movement of oc/canon or selfshipping now especially in the beetlejuice fandom.
PLEASE DO NOT LET BITTER ASS, TOXIC, NASTY,SELFISH PEOPLE SHAME YOU AND YOUR ART BECAUSE YOU DONT LIKE THEIR SHIPS AND WANNA SHIP YOUR OC OR YOURSELF WITH BEETLEJUICE YOU ARE VALID AS FUCK.
Some b**tleb*bes need to grasp that goth/alternative is a very popular subcultre that has been around since the very late 70's many people including myself are into it, beetlejuice as a franchise attracts giths for very obvious reasons. So obviously people especially women, femmes, woman aligned folk who are into gothic or alternative subculture are gonna get into beetlejuice and ship themselves with him. Its more than likely someone is gonna make an oc that looks kinda like lydia hell the person who makes it might relate to lydia but dismissing thwn as beetlebabe shippers and their oc's lydia rip offs is not only rude and completely ignorant. Goths who wanna fuck beej exist, lydia was based around an alrdready established subculture.
And dont insult and dismiss the oc's of women, femmes, and lgbt+ folk in general for wanting to smooch beetlejuice and making oc's for an escapism fantasy when you do it all the time to justify your ship. B**tlebabes with scream this till the cows cone home and if you have anything to say against their ship you're a misogynist who wants to control women and marginalized peoples fantasies. But when these people do have fantasies that don't involve your ship you put belittle them, make fun of them, ect. Y'all are so performative it hurt, You are being complicit in patriarical back handedness you hypocrites.
Sorry for popping off i wanted this to be mostly positivity for oc/canon and self shippers and y'all are so valid and creative as fuck im sorry these people are attacking yall for this.
