HARM ENGINE - square wave harmonics or digital sonic filth in +/- 5 octaves with 3rds and 5ths
The HARM ENGINE is based on the CIRCUITBENDERS 'Harmonic Engine' PCBs, it's "a clone of the E&MM Harmonic Generator. This was a project by Paul Williams, published in Electronics & Music Maker magazine way back in 1981. The circuit uses a 4046 Phased Locked Loop (PLL) to generate a squarewave output at harmonic intervals to the frequency of the input signal. The squarewave can be set to +/- three [5 + a chaos noise mode in the METSÄÄN version] octaves, and can also produce 3rd or 5th harmonies. That's the theory anyway. In practice this only works reliably if you use very basic waveforms at the input. If you use anything else, then everything very quickly descends into a beautiful kind of chaos, with all kinds of bizarre gurgling digital squeaks and squeals vomiting forth. Its especially effective with percussion sounds, converting each hit into some kind of warped electronic splatter." The controls from top left to right are: SENSITIVITY - controlling the level at which the harmonics will be played. Turning the pot clockwise increases the gain of the signal (it also boost with a slight distortion, the DRY signal). In higher settings, the squarewave harmonics can form a modulated drone voice. Activity of the HARM ENGINE is indicated by a green LED, that turns on when harmonics are produced. 3RD/5TH - the 3 position toggle switch activates the corresponding detuning. The middle position is neutral. MIX - is a blending function to dial in the balance between DRY and HARM signal. If something is plugged into the DRY and HARM outputs on the rear of the machine, MIX stops working, because the signal is split before. OCTAVE - with a 12 position rotary switch, +/- 5 octaves are selected, 12o'clock is neutral and 6o'clock is the chaos/noise mode. TRUE BYPASS - The footswitch is configured for true bypass and has a pink indicator LED inside the machine, the glow can be seen through the vent grills in the enclosure. Build into a scavenged high voltage converter housing made from plastique painted in the 'burned out industry' camo pattern in matte black and chrome. Hand made by grm for METSÄÄN.
Sold.

Okay, I'm going to have to play more with running audio signals through the clock divider module. Fuzz at suboctaves, or at subharmonics — and there's some really intriguing sonic possibilities that come from pairing a sample and the divided down version of it in a ring mod or analog logic setup.
#modular synth#eurorack#i mean i also need a more convenient sample player than my mini kaoss pad but

New pedals for my collection ! Put those on financing , since I've finished paying a lot of stuff, both of these I wanted since forever especially the @ehx POG 2 , the Sub Machine I had tried this one at the store a few years back and was impressed with it. Going to work on a new experimental Ambient song with these soon ! #musicproducer #noiseproducer #electroharmonix #ehx #pog2 #mxr #submachine #fuzz #suboctave #octaver #doom #bass #lowfrequency #guitar #pedals #newpedalday #newgearday #noiseart #ambient #experimental #darkambient #drone #dronemusic #noiseambient #synthesizer https://www.instagram.com/p/CE4p2MrH1ER/?igshid=1k2ertc7a4b35

To add to this: what does Percy sound like? Does he have a sweet tenor voice or is he able to pull through with the deepest bass vocals? With his resting bitch face and his father’s features people think that he is ready to rip their heads off. Does he sound that way? Or are people going to be equally surprised when it’s the complete opposite? Does his voice jump up a few octaves whenever he laughs? Will he set earthquakes free with a deep and rich laughter?
Whenever Annabeth’s around he sounds softer and his words get sweeter
Question: what does Annabeth’s voice sound like in your head? Does she have a high voice? Or the opposite? Does she sound coarse or rather stern? Does she have a thick accent and swallow consonants? Or does she sound rather posh and clear? What is her laughter like? Does it equal the ringing of a bell? Is she the type of person that has a choked snort? Is it contagious?
No matter what happened and even despite Tartarus she never forgot how to laugh
#tbh percy has a deep voice. i can see him pulling off a bass. poseidon also reaches suboctave levels#pjo#annabeth chase#percy jackson#percabeth

Music math level 2

Both of these systems, and the vast majority of music in general, have scales that repeat on the interval of every octave, which is defined as frequency ratio of 2:1. One major difference between equal temperament tunings and just tunings is differences in acoustical beat when two notes are sounded together, which affects the subjective experience of consonance and dissonance. Just scales are built by multiplying frequencies by rational numbers, which results in simple ratios between frequencies, but with scale divisions that are uneven. Equal temperament scales are built by dividing an octave into intervals which are equal on a logarithmic scale, which results in perfectly evenly divided scales, but with ratios of frequencies which are irrational numbers. There are two main families of tuning systems: equal temperament and just tuning. Main articles: Musical tuning and Musical temperament Each successive octave spans twice the frequency range of the previous octave. The third octave spans from 440 Hz to 880 Hz (span=440 Hz) and so on. The next octave will span from 220 Hz to 440 Hz (span=220 Hz). When expressed as a frequency bandwidth an octave A 2–A 3 spans from 110 Hz to 220 Hz (span=110 Hz). all will be called doh or A or Sa, as the case may be). Therefore, any note and its octaves will generally be found similarly named in musical systems (e.g. There is no case in musical harmony where, if a given pitch be considered accordant, that its octaves are considered otherwise. Pitches at frequencies of half, a quarter, an eighth and so on of the fundamental are called suboctaves. Succeeding superoctaves are pitches found at frequencies four, eight, sixteen times, and so on, of the fundamental frequency. The octave of any pitch refers to a frequency exactly twice that of the given pitch. A scale has an interval of repetition, normally the octave. Each pitch corresponds to a particular frequency, expressed in hertz (Hz), sometimes referred to as cycles per second (c.p.s.). The most important scale in the Western tradition is the diatonic scale but many others have been used and proposed in various historical eras and parts of the world. ( Ernst Chladni, Acoustics, 1802)Ī musical scale is a discrete set of pitches used in making or describing music. Musical form Ĭhladni figures produced by sound vibrations in fine powder on a square plate. The elements of musical form often build strict proportions or hypermetric structures (powers of the numbers 2 and 3). Modern musical use of terms like meter and measure also reflects the historical importance of music, along with astronomy, in the development of counting, arithmetic and the exact measurement of time and periodicity that is fundamental to physics. Without the boundaries of rhythmic structure – a fundamental equal and regular arrangement of pulse repetition, accent, phrase and duration – music would not be possible. Confucius, like Pythagoras, regarded the small numbers 1,2,3,4 as the source of all perfection. Early Indian and Chinese theorists show similar approaches: all sought to show that the mathematical laws of harmonics and rhythms were fundamental not only to our understanding of the world but to human well-being. įrom the time of Plato, harmony was considered a fundamental branch of physics, now known as musical acoustics. Their central doctrine was that "all nature consists of harmony arising out of numbers". Though ancient Chinese, Indians, Egyptians and Mesopotamians are known to have studied the mathematical principles of sound, the Pythagoreans (in particular Philolaus and Archytas) of ancient Greece were the first researchers known to have investigated the expression of musical scales in terms of numerical ratios, particularly the ratios of small integers. 7 Musicians who were or are also mathematicians.

Pretty sure you got it right, yeah.
This is a good use case for the suboctave clef. There's a reason it gets used a lot for vocal writing!
(Really it's probably technically correct to use an alto clef, but then we'd all have to read an alto clef and no one wants that.)
so me and @quantumofawesome were listening to the portal 2 ending song and talking about about the melodic line that transitions into the chorus is kind of tricky to sing, and spent a while trying to figure out what exactly the intervals were
and I was still thinking about it when I got home and ended up transcribing, uh, most of the song I guess
