So, I've decided to share more of my finished pieces. This one I completely freehanded at the beginning with some cotton bamboo yarn I impulse bought. The problem was my boobs were much too visible to my liking and I wasn't really wearing the shirt since I hate bras. But a few weeks ago I had an idea to embroider something in strategic places. I like plant motives so I did these. It ended up looking like a censoring in old art, which is perfect and I love the outcome. Especially, since the yarn colour is quite similar to my skin tone, what creates an amazing effect
Photos by my amazing girlfriend, who terrorised me for 20 min to get the best view of the piece haha

I’ve been doing lots of other fiber arts too, including this leafinity top by theknitstitch in cotton/cashmere held together with silk/mohair from a local indie dyer.
It’s my first attempt at simple lace and is coming out really well!

I wish I were a cool fashion guy, and could act as if dishcloths were beneath me, but that’s just not true: when it’s hot out, I’m just going to be knitting a couple replacements. And if I’m doing that I’m probably going to write them up, even though it doesn’t feel like the best use of one’s time.
Maybe it’s more self-indulgent and luxurious than useless and twee, though, if you think about it: I like cooking, the whole process, including resetting the kitchen at the end, and I like making things, so I’ve got a pretty good rotation of lightweight dishcloths that dry fast and look and smell nice. It all fits together.

So happy to have been able to finish knitting 1 out 4 patterns I had planned for this summer! I could have taken a little more time to make this top to a length I'm more comfortable with, but I also wanted to be able to wear it to the Brewers game. I'm not usually one for crop top length clothing, but honestly once I blocked it and tried it on, I felt so confident in it that I was happy with how it turned out and will be happy with it going forward.
I did steam block it due to time restraints. Unsure if I did it wrong, but it has started to curl back, so I will most likely wet block it at some point.
Pattern - Moon Set Tee by Ozetta (website | ravelry) Yarn - Strawberry Swirl dyed by Explorer Knits + Fiber (insta)
As a note, I have had this yarn in my stash for almost 2 years. It was the first "luxury" yarn I had purchased for myself with this pattern in mind. 2 years ago, though, I made this pattern with different (but also similar yarn) for a friend and didn't want to burn myself out by knitting the pattern again. So both the pattern and yarn have just been biding their time until I felt ready to make it again

Some student at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters: Mr. Logan, you’ve been alive for a long time, right?
Logan: Sure, kid. Since sometime in the early 1800’s. Why?
Student: Is there anything you miss from back then? Not like a person, y’know; we all miss people. But something you thought was gonna be around forever, or at least a long time, and it just isn’t now.
Logan:…what?
Student: Y’know, like a place or an animal or something. Maybe a food or a kind of transportation or a style of clothes or whatever. What’s something you miss from the past that’s not an individual person?
Logan: Oh my god. I…never really thought about that.
Logan: Um…passenger pigeons were pretty cool, I guess. I liked steam trains. Not great for the environment, but they were pretty neat. Also, old-school bananas tasted way better than whatever tf passes for bananas now. And Yellowstone before cars was…indescribably beautiful. And hand-knit socks and mittens? So comfy, but I don’t know anyone who does that anymore.
Student: Aw, shit. There was so much cool stuff. And it’s all, like, gone now. :(
Logan: Sorry, kid. I didn’t mean to be a downer. Just…the world’s a lot different now. Not bad; just…different.
Student: …Yeah. I mean, healthcare is way better now, so I’m glad I live in the present. But that stuff…I’m sorry I missed it.
Cut to that student learning how to knit/sew/handicraft and making Logan and the other teachers and students handmade gifts. They’re not really good at first, but they get better and more intricate as the years go on.
Logan gets a pair of gloves with little button holes made for his claws to go through without ruining them. Storm gets a beautiful lacework shawl. Charles gets so many hats with pompoms and wears them with pride. Jean loves her infinity scarf, and Scott is so ecstatic over his little fair isle patterned earmuffs. Remy gets a playing card themed cropped sweater, and Rogue squeals with delight when she gets the softest, most beautiful pair of gloves she’s ever seen. And everyone gets custom hand-knit socks, even Kurt (that’s when the student first got into pattern creation: not a lot of two-toed sock knitting patterns out there, so they made their own).
Idk, just…fluffy x-men learning cool stuff about the past and keeping it alive in the present, just because.

I finished my dropped stitch tank top! I love the way it turned out and it was so fun to improvise.
The yarn is cascade pandamonium in 07 Claret, which is a really nice true red. I used 4.5 mm needles and used 340 yards in total.

And they're done!!
Tumblr media
first post about these socks
second post about these socks
What an intensely enjoyable knit! I've never done so much colorwork before, and certainly never with 3 strands! What a challenge, but also highly engaging. These socks felt like they took no time at all! They're also quite soft and pretty darn warm, so I'm very excited to add these to my closet come fall & winter. Thank you to Oakwood Knits for a fantastic sock design!
Like the first attempt, I tracked my daily progress, but I started doing so after I caught up to where I stopped from my first attempt, which took half the time to do this attempt!

These still need to be blocked, and I have a set of sock blockers on the way, but I didn't want to wait to share because I just am so pleased with them. I learned a handful of new things making these, namely continental, to hold the secondary color, and how to better tension strands of color. I knit these both at the same time across two circulars, and the little onion* skeins of Palette actually made it so I could use only one skein at a time for both socks! I did make a little ball for each sock for the third color rows, however. But ultimately, it worked out great. I also did Eye of the Partridge heels and toes, because I know my feet and those are the spots that need the most reinforcing, and I also added in a single row of purls on the top at the toes because I like how it looks on socks.
Bonus: the start of the spring socks, since I missed the KAL for them and was so jazzed by the summer socks I want to knit more!

*I don't know of they're really called onion skeins, but I can't remember if they have an official name and they look like onions to me, so there you go
pattern: Oakwood Knits
yarn: Knit Picks Palette
