hi media literacy oomf you should totally talk about nagito komaeda 😎
hi nagito oomf lol There's a lot with Nagito I could talk about. I think he's a great villain/antagonist in Danganronpa 2 and Ultra Despair Girls and I think he's great In Danganronpa 3 and 2.5 as well. Honestly I don't think he has a single bad appearance in the series.
It's difficult to pinpoint a single thing about him, but in my opinion he's the best antagonist and one of the best characters period in the series.

Hello!
What is your opinion on danganronpa 2.5?
hello anon! thank you SO MUCH letting me ramble!!! :)
I really do love Danganronpa 2.5, I think it's really cool that they explain more how everyone was waken up, I also adore that the plot is based off of statements in Danganronpa 2 only elaborating and exploring them more. Not only that, but they make it all about Nagito who's the same character that is complex enough to have three entire songs haha!! So it works out well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2.5 reverses Nagito's luck cycle which makes it easier to understand and I really love it. It also adds the statement that truly Nagito would rather have his luck not harm others but rather help them and harm himself, there's also the detail that Nagito's luck is so prominent in his life that even in a world made by his subconscious it is always there. It also implies he deep down wishes talent didn't exist which is something he'd never admit or even know he felt with his unhealthy obsession and dedication with hope and the ultimates!!!
I really enjoy world destroyer too, I think his scenes are very interesting, like, ok man thanks for pulling up with your FINGER GUNS??? It's super cool!! His design is pretty interesting too even if it's just adding to Hajime's preexisting one.
I also like the detail that alongside Nagito's own death the memories that he remembers most vividly is Hajime's smile and his time with him which is just very sweet
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The moments with Makoto and Sayaka being out of character because Nagito views them, especially Makoto, so highly is super funny too. Kazuichi and Fuyuhiko's friendship is also fun and something we don't get to see often! The background characters we get to see are also just very fun.
I find it really interesting that by swapping Nagito's belief with the opposite it's basically telling what the genuine issue is in their world because his beliefs stems from the flawed ideals of hope's peak. The issue in their world isn't the talentless, it's the talented. No one is happy, talentless people feel worthless, and being talented is exhausting in its own way. All of the social pressure of not being treated as humans being at its most extreme in this world is upsetting for most everyone.
also this Parallel makes me lose my MIND!!!!!!
Tumblr media
Danganronpa 2.5 has a lot of REALLY good stuff going on for it, I think the only complaint I see about it is Nagito's "contradiction," which I'll talk a little bit about!
Basically, people like to point out that with Nagito's suicide plan he should have been more upset, "He never believed in Hajime though?"
I've seen a few pretty good interpretations of it, but the one I think makes most sense is that he was talking more to Izuru kamakura since he had gotten his memories back. Nagito's old and new memories merge together, he remembers pretty much everything. Which is why he sees Izuru first, then corrects himself seeing Hajime, and Hajime replies that they're both him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nagito then says he knew he'd make it to the lowest stratum, and that he believed in him. Basically saying that Izuru could do anything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe he believed the supposedly Bad luck from going into the Neo World Program would end up in Good luck? It's unclear a bit, but I definitely believe he's talking to Izuru a bit at the very least. Mostly because if he believed in Hajime in the killing game his luck cycle wouldn't have gone, good luck: the traitor was selected, bad luck: the plan didn't work and they lived.
Nagito has known Hajime and Izuru now and accepts him for who he is. It's honestly really sweet. Hajime himself has grown and accepts Nagito for who he is as well. They both forgive each other and it's just really sweet. They've been through a lot!
Overall little rambles aside, I think Danganronpa 2.5 is really lovely. It adds more to Nagito's character, tells more information about how the class woke up while using actual text from Danganronpa 2, and is just super fun! I love Danganronpa 2.5 a lot.

I wonder why Nagito’s parents weren’t there in 2.5. I mean that’s supposed to be an ideal world, right? (Maybe the trauma of loosing them was too much? And the Neo world program was just trying to protect him from all his trauma?)

Real talk: Super Danganronpa 2.5 is pretty underrated
36 notes · View notes
Note
The factions thing would be a goldmine for oc backstories. Why isn't anyöne using it?
I KNOW RIGHT, personally in my dr worldbuilding I have multiple factions, with plans to make more as more ideas come to me
The main ones are
Future Foundation
For an organization named for the future, the Future Foundation is obsessed with the past. Whether it be a return of the talent system, structuring society like how it used to be, rebuilding hope’s peak, to it’s mess of an infrastructure after another fucking killing game. Due to a sheer manpower and technology advantage FF has managed to keep a pretty large amount of territory, but with gaps and weaknesses starting to become more blatant, others are quick to swoop in and peck at the cracks to take down this seeming titan. With Makoto at the helm now it certainly probably will begin to become kinder and less rigid, but even he’s drunk the kool-aid as he reopens Hope’s Peak. With an obsession with hope and despair that rivals only the Despairs, this is a kingdom built on salt and sand.
Despair
Less a specific faction and more a scattered group. While some small communes or villages may fall under the despair logo they don’t tend to last long. Despair currently genuinely holds very small amounts of territory, they destroy lots but they make an active attempt to hold onto very little. This makes movement unpredictable though and all factions need to be super cautious when expanding to make sure no remnants are lying in wait in any of the buildings or other areas.
Towa City
An ally of Future Foundation that was run by the Towa group and survived the worst of the tragedy by playing both sides. After the Despair riots that hypnotized the city’s children were done and the leaders were killed or vanished, Komaru was forced into the role of Mayor/Ruler as the people were determined to watch her crumble and fail, at which point they would be absorbed by the Future Foundation. Komaru refuses to back down and while they are definitely on a backfoot for now as Komaru learns and narrowly keeps Towa City independent if indebted to the Future Foundation, if she can pull this off she’ll make the best neutral zone she can, not picking a faction or side but instead giving opportunity and sanctuary to any who need help. With such strong beliefs on all sides, Towa must become a faction where all stand on equal ground and leave petty gripes at the door if she doesn’t want to be consumed.
Jabberwock Island
Note the ex-remnants hold no loyalty to Future Foundation, they only hold a sense of loyalty to Makoto Naegi. With Makoto now in charge of FF one would assume this is a non-issue, they would be wrong. They’ll help Naegi out on his pet projects and stuff, but helping the foundation as a whole? They’re a lot less inclined, and tend to prefer just to keep to themselves. Hajime is working under the table to make anonymous trade networks with other factions as well to best support themselves in case anything happens to the FF or their location gets leaked, etc. They like Naegi, they don’t like his organization, it’s a very important distinction you need to remember when dealing with them.
Uma Republic.
Run by Kokichi Ouma and DICE. The Uma Republic stands for freedom from the talent system as a whole and an end of scapegoating the tragedy to just despair instead of the many many social issues that perforated society. A wish to rebuild society new and fair for the next age.
While the more minor ones which don't all have proper names are
Team Danganronpa
An offshoot of despair, this is a group of not full despairs who crave the emotional rush of things like killing games but are unable to let go of their desire for a white picket fence and 2.5 kids. They hide under a veneer of being civilized but are very bored of it. So to compensate they hold killing games with any ultimates or ultimate adjacent they can get their hands on. They hold a very strong grasp over several communes and can be hard to spot if you don’t know the signs. Future Foundation is trying to stamp out the organization once and for all but it’s tricky with how subtle they are, slowly but surely progress is being made to eliminate them.
Angie's Island
This is where Angie is from and they would like her back please and thank you
Tenko's Temple/Dojo
A shelter for women and families trying to survive the tragedy. The members of the dojo teach them neo-aikido and other skills while giving them shelter and food. Rationing can get a bit tight at times but they are determined to help out. Though Tenko isn’t sure where her master and the other priests have vanished, she is determined to keep honing her craft as she slowly gets over her prejudices
Saihara's Uncle's Detective Agency
A handful of buildings that house the members of the agency as well as the main agency. They are information brokers with no qualms about taking any job as long as it pays well enough
Korekiyo’s Commune
A small commune that expands over a reclaimed town that Korekiyo was staying in before being abducted for a killing game, small population but pretty friendly to travelers. Unlikely to stay independent for much longer as other factions creep closer, especially after the v3 games brought future foundation to the area
Professor Idabashi
Refuses to choose a faction and has a strict desire for independence and freedom from confining systems that want to use and abuse his robotics and his son. As such he’s a powerful force all on his own that many other factions will trade and barter with.
Crazy Diamonds
Almost completely wiped out but not yet, hard to destroy the biggest biker gang in the world after all. The remaining members are vagabonds, searching for supplies and new members while not hesitating to use force to get what they need.
Haiji’s Terrorists
The adults who still think they should kill all the children, terrorists that directly and physically oppose Komaru’s leadership. They want to oust Komaru as leader declaring her to be a symbol of despair and put the Towa family back in charge.

Tumblr media
a couple exciting things arrived in the mail for me. (sorry for the low quality photos, my phone’s camera is really really bad)
Tumblr media
junko  enoshima nendoroid! i’ve been really excited for this! it’s my first ever nendoroid, and i’m very happy that it could be her. there’s a lot more small parts than i thought there were though!
Tumblr media
and  a twofer, here. on the left is Progressive -Zan Shin-, the ending theme  of danganronpa another episode sung by megumi ogata and aya uchida  (makoto naegi and komaru naegi respectively) , which also includes  poison -gekiyaku- as a b-side, which is a komaeda character song again  sung by megumi ogata.
on the right is the danganronpa 10th  anniversary blu-ray box set. now i don’t actually have a blu-ray player,  so i won’t be getting a lot of use out of this, but it’s cool to have. the main ‘attraction’ for most people would be the complete sets of danganronpa the animation and danganronpa 3… but for me, it also comes with a bunch of bonus stuff!
Tumblr media
first of all, the sound novel, kirigiri sou.
this is a sound novel starring kyouko kirigiri, set after danganronpa kirigiri and before dr1… and it’s probably not canon. i actually already archived a fan-translation for this, but i think i may try and rip the gamefiles if possible and put the game itself in the archive. we’ll see what i can do, at least.
Tumblr media
also comes with a copy of Super Danganronpa 2.5: Nagito Komaeda and the Destroyer of the World.
this was an ova released after dr3 finished, as part of the limited edition of NDRV3 in japan. never got an official english translation, but there‘s a pretty good fan-translation out there for it. i’ll be including that in the archive.
Tumblr media
and of course, there’s bonus discs, too (which sdr2.5 is one of).
one of these cds contains audio drama! two of these star koichi kizakura recruiting various hope’s peak academy students, and the other two star, respectively, celestia ludenberg and kazuichi souda. i’m not sure if these have ever been translated, but i’ll look for them nonetheless, and will be including the original audio files in the archive.
the other two bonus discs contain the soundtrack to danganronpa 3. now i officially own the soundtracks of all main-series danganronpa content that they’ve released!!
i hope the long-ass post makes up for the inactivity over the past week or two.
farewell, despair archivists…

Honestly I know nothing about Danganronpa HOWEVER I love listening to you talk about it, so thanks
YAY!!!!! THATS SO SWEET????? I'm so glad you get happiness from me talking about it even if you don't know much???
I don't really know what else to say so I guess I'll just say if you ever decide to get into the franchise the order you would do so is:
Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc, this entry has a weirdly paced anime adaptation based off of the original visual novel, Super Danganronpa 2 Goodbye Despair is strictly a game (to experience the whole story) and the second entry following the first, Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School is an anime that wraps of the story of the first and second game with two different arcs that you have to alternate watching one episode from each arc (sometimes the site you're watching it on will automatically do it for you <3), Then there's an Ova that helps to understand my favorite character called Danganronpa 2.5, And finally Danganronpa v3 is another visual novel game separate from the rest of the original trilogy which makes it controversial but interesting. There's spin off one game I didn't mention and a few spin off mangas, the mangas are pretty good but don't give you much of the full story. The spin off game, Ultra Despair Girls, is really problematic and if you ever decided to go through with it you would need a list of trigger warnings. Ultra Despair Girls takes place in between Danganronpa 1 and Danganronpa 2 but should be played after completing Danganronpa 2 if at all.
The premise of Danganronpa is 15 students with special talents get trapped in a location and forced to have a killing game by a robotic bear where they must kill another student, go through a class trial to see who did the murder, if the killer gets voted out only the killer dies, but if the killer doesn't get voted out everyone But the killer dies and they get to be free. It can be very unhinged sometimes and is a fantasy sci-fi kind of thing. It's really fun despite it's issues, and despite it's over use of the words hope and despair to the point all Danganronpa fans associate the words with it, it warrants every use of the word and uses it in meaningful ways. The story building, ridiculous mysteries, concept, themes, and especially characters all contribute to Danganronpa being something really special. :D

Nagito was never forced redeemed as you would put it. His ending in 2.5 was similar to the others him looking towards the future, if he didn't he would actively try to stay in the virtual world, a place he himself likes and admits isn't bad. End of 2.5 was Hajime giving Nagito a chance to be good, a chance the others were given as well, a chance to change.
Nagito did not betray that chance, in DR3 Future side he was actively working with the others to stop Mitarai, he actively saved Makoto using his luck and he was shown to accept Hajime himself. It was a chance to do good and change, a chance that Nagito took and proved Hajime right by not wasting it.
Let's look at Super Danganronpa 2, more specifically class trials. What was Nagito's main motives for action there, to side with the ones with the biggest hope and to forever be a bystander. He lets others solve the cases while himself keeping his hands off the main work as he does not see himself as worthy to do it. Only times he actively took charge was when, in case of chapter 3 where the motive was despair and chapter 4 where he had collectively given upon the Ultimates.
SDR2 Nagito would not help Makoto, he would not help his classmates at all. Nagito's philosophy in SDR2 was that the ultimates have to themselves overcome challenges and prove themselves worthy. SDR2 Nagito would never help Makoto, he would only urge Makoto to solve it himself since he is the Ultimate Hope. SDR2 Nagito's very ideology towards Ultimate can be best defined as 'Sink or Swim bitch'. The very fact that he helped at all is a sign that he is indeed starting to change.
I believe many others have pointed out that he is self depriciative than before so I won't point it out again, but I never saw anybody pointing it out how Nagito merely acting is already a sign that he is starting to change since SDR2 Nagito never acts until the other side is using despair as a motive, the other side is despair and monsters themselves. That's when Nagito, who has always shown himself to be a more passive character, becomes a more active character.
So yeah, he was never forcefully redeemed but rather he was given a chance at the of 2.5 by Hajime, a chance he didn't waste by actively helping everyone which is something that goes against his entire ideology and character in SDR2
Okay someone actually gave a decent argument
Now I say forced redemption because nagito doesn’t face any consequences or shows any actual remorse
Regarding nagito’s worldview you misunderstand a few things nagito’s driving motivation for most of his actions is that he wants to see hope triumph over despair and he has shown he will do anything so him helping makoto isn’t all that indicative (I’d go in further about his ideology but it would take too much space)
Your wrong about nagito needing despair as a motive to act considering he was the one who tried to kickstart the killing game by initiating the first murder so he could see hope succeed
And like I said in earlier posts nagito has very limited screen time in the hope arc so saying he isn’t self-deprecating on the time he’s on screen isn’t saying much
But thanks for giving me a change of pace
