One of the earliest examples of Leo’s “I’ll do my own thing to accomplish our goal without discussing it with my team first” is in episode one. It’s super, super quick, and ultimately inconsequential, but it subtly sets up a great precedent that I think is very interesting.

When the boys need to grab the medallion from Splinter without Splinter noticing, Raph, Mikey, and Donnie huddle together with Raph taking the lead in trying to devise a plan to get the mystic device. Meanwhile, Leo slinks away and grabs the device by clocking the situation (by knowing his father well enough to predict his actions - something he does with each family member multiple times in the series) and making a move on his own.

It works out perfectly fine, and is ultimately the best move, and it’s honestly okay that he didn’t consult everyone for something so small when it’s such a non issue to get it, but it nicely sets up how this tends to go in the series, including how it goes in the movie.

To be honest episode one is actually really good at setting up a lot of things for each character in the long run, this is just one example that caught my attention, as small and unassuming as it is.

what does the vampirism in sinners represent? there’s a lot to talk about with the movie but one thing that I found pretty odd (SPOILERS FOLLOW) was how sympathetically the irish vampire guy was portrayed compared to say, the villainous humans in the story. the film doesn’t really say why the state of being a vampire is “bad” outside of like, i guess your soul being stuck on earth.

i guess there’s the question of free will. do the Black characters affected by vampirism still have free will, or are they being affected by the Irish guy’s influence? it seems like Stack still had free will, even when the irish guy was still alive. does that mean everybody had free will? was being a vampire just that awesome, that the second you get turned you say “wow, I don’t even know what I was complaining about, this is great.” because if so, then the worst thing the irish guy does is like. selfishly wanting to speak to his ancestors. the kkk people are way worse.

then at the very very end, when we finally see Stack, it seems like he’s got it all figured out. being a vampire seems like it worked out super well for him. so what is vampirism, in the text of the movie? is it like selling your soul for money? i mean maybe. the irish dude did have gold. are they saying that being a vampire is sort of like “feeding” on the system? as in, you do sort of get to escape the system, but constantly at someone else’s expense. like vampirism is a metaphor for capitalist success maybe? I’m probably overthinking it. But if you read all this and have any ideas, feel free to let me know in the replies

He’s a pleasant little fellow who’s unknowingly stuck in a timeloop/time freeze. He doesn’t like interacting with people so he usually hides under bushes, and he spends that time foraging for eggs. Not to eat, but to raise. Despite being friendly, he’s a huge stickler when it comes to rules and will not hesitate to get rough if you violate the Rules™️. He controls the Iofes, which is basically just a species of technically alive but not really sentient bugs that group together and make a hand formation. What it does? Who knows, but he’s the leader!! He’s extremely sensitive and feels his feelings very strongly and he STANDS UP FOR WHAT HE BELIEVES IN 😤😤‼️‼️🔥🔥💥💥✊✊although he doesn’t always know what exactly he’s standing up for. He’ll stand up anyway. my little activist (he doesn’t know what is going on ever)
