My hometown lost a local legend today

Imro van Hetten (67) from Suriname pursued a career in Thai boxing in the 70s, fought and the Netherlands where he owned the champion title of Noord Holland. He then went on to pursue a career as Italo Disco DJ in the 80s under the name Android during which he composed the track Skydancer

Unfortunately, during he career as a DJ, he got addicted to cocaine and ended up in the psychiatry. He became homeless and became well known in Utrecht. During the 2000s, he went viral when a video of him surfaced the web where he as a homeless person would tell strangers in Utrecht about how he was a UFO pilot.

That's initially how I found out about him in the first place, the fact that he had such a fascinating backstory blew my mind and is in somewhat inspiring to me.

Bami Goreng Rames (€15)

Noodles with beef and chicken. Beef was tender and the chicken was tasty. Noodles don't have the same texture as the usual mee goreng though

Saoto Soup (€6)

Taste kind of like soup ayam with lots of shredded chicken

Baka bana with peanut sauce (€1.85)

More starchy pisang goreng with sweet sticky peanut sauce. The sauce isn't like the peanut Satay sauce that SG has

Teloh (€5.50)

The fried cassava was quite hard but its a good vessel for the salty cod and onion jam. My fav dish!

Markoesa (€3.25)

Passionfruit drink. Pleasant, strong tasting and rather sweet.

Not intended, but somehow ended up in another #photography #museum in an old canal house. Foam has a more commercial feel than the Huis Marseille, but there were a couple #exhibits that stood out: an #exhibit on found #Surinamese Wedding Portraits from the 1840s-1950s. Covered issues of colonialism, slavery, immigration, & #multiracial families with sometimes hidden histories. Likewise, there was another exhibit on the #LGBTQ community in #Ukraine that was really good & deserved more space. Countries of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Vow to Combat Transnational Crime

Senior representatives of countries of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty (ACTO) drew up an ambitious plan for the Amazon region in favor of sustainable development, health, and the fight against transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) that exploit the forest for their gain.

Among their latest resolutions, approved during the XIV Meeting of Foreign Ministers of ACTO in November 2023 in Brasilia, was the reactivation of the Commission on Public Security and Cross Border Crime. The special commission will be made up of public security authorities from the signatory countries — Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela — to work on international cooperation to combat TCOs operating in the region.

The foreign ministers also made progress on the proposal to establish the Center for International Police Cooperation in the Amazon, with headquarters in Manaus. The center aims to focus on information, intelligence, and alert exchange; training activities; and combined tactical operations among ACTO countries to eradicate crime. It was also decided to start the process of creating an Integrated Air Traffic Control System, together with the respective competent national bodies, to monitor illegal air traffic and combat drug trafficking.
