Sleeping Swan and the Giant. . This backlit scene had the leaves glow brightly amongst this otherwise dark scene. The darker bottom half, filled with scraggly branches and twigs, is disrupted by the pure white swan quietly sleeping at her nest. . My students know I am fond of swans and in turn they are starting to become fond of swans too (eg arguing with each other over who gets to use my swan pen etc) and anyway a couple of them are trying to convince me to buy some custom swan stamps and I said I wanted to but couldn’t think of any swan puns etc to put on there, I said the only thing I could think of was ‘swantastic’. So my student went away determined to think of something and later on comes up to me and goes ‘I’ve finally thought of something for the swan stamp! Swantastic! - wait no that’s the one we already have damnit!!’

Saw this mute swan with its wings “on display” which means they feel threatened by something nearby. It swam back and forth in the area with about 20-30 swans, ducks, and geese nearby before eventually lowering its wings. . Yesterday I showed you how Bezos advocates changing your mind.

This falls nicely into the idea of inconsistency as a virtue in the startup world.

I have written on the value of being somewhat unpredictable.  This comes mostly from the idea that people tend to react well to positive surprises...and they tend to devalue (take for granted) consistency.  

But there's more to it than that.  There's the learning aspect.  Consistency can get in it's own way.  It can cause you to ignore data, trends, innovations...and most disastrous it can cause you to ignore the fact that you're wrong!
