Hi!! Had a cute thought of reader with Jing yuan being friend's in their childhood, right before Jing Yuan joined the cloud Knight's the reader would be skeptical about it and still ask him to reconsider to be in the realm keeping commission since that's how both of them met being out in the same class.
Now in the present they would be a couple and they would both reminisce about that time since the memory was brought up after finding old pictures of them together in their shared home
The Long and Winding Road
Summary: In a quiet moment of nostalgia, Jing Yuan and you reflect on your childhood, revisiting old photographs that remind you both of a time before Jing Yuan became the esteemed Arbiter-General of the Xianzhou Alliance. The two of you share a tender conversation about the choices that shaped your lives—Jing Yuan's decision to leave behind a future in the Realm-Keeping Commission and join the Cloud Knights, despite your concerns. As you reminisce about the past, the bond you share only deepens, and you are reminded of how your paths, though once uncertain, always led you back to each other.

The soft glow of the setting sun filtered through the window, casting a golden hue over the room. Jing Yuan, now the esteemed General of the Xianzhou Alliance, sat on the couch, a serene expression on his face as he flipped through an old, leather-bound album. He hadn’t expected to stumble upon these memories today—old photographs, each a glimpse into a time long past.
You were sitting beside him, a steaming cup of tea in hand, though you weren't paying much attention to the drink. Your eyes were fixed on the photo album, your heart stirred with nostalgia as the familiar faces in the pictures brought back fragments of your shared history.
“Look at this,” Jing Yuan said with a soft chuckle, pulling out a picture from the album. It was a snapshot from your younger days—a picture taken when both of you were still children. The two of you were sitting together in a classroom, just before Jing Yuan's journey with the Cloud Knights had truly begun. His hair was a little shorter back then, but his eyes still had that same quiet intensity, as if they could see through everything. You, on the other hand, were caught in a candid moment, your expression half-concerned, half-exasperated.
You leaned closer to examine the photo, feeling the weight of those memories.
"I still remember this," you murmured, tracing a finger over the photograph. "You were always so calm, even then. But I… I was worried about you."
Jing Yuan tilted his head, his smile fond but also tinged with sadness. "You never did like the idea of me joining the Cloud Knights, did you?" he said, his voice quiet, as if he too could still hear the echoes of that conversation from long ago.
You laughed softly, a gentle sound, almost like a sigh. “I didn’t understand, Jing Yuan. We were both supposed to be scholars. I always imagined we’d be working in the Realm-Keeping Commission, like our families. But you... you chose the sword instead of the scroll. You always had that drive, even as a kid.”
Jing Yuan paused, looking at the picture once more, his eyes clouded with reminiscence. "You were the one who always kept me grounded, even back then. You saw something I didn't—the burden of leadership. But I thought you knew better than anyone why I chose the path I did. To protect. To serve. Not just through words, but through actions."
"Still..." You glanced at him, meeting his gaze. "I remember begging you to reconsider. You were so set on the Cloud Knights. But in my heart, I thought you belonged somewhere else. Somewhere with less bloodshed. Less danger."
Jing Yuan's expression softened, the lines of time etched on his face somehow making him look both older and younger all at once. "I remember you, standing there, trying to convince me that my future was in the commission, not on the battlefield. You were the only one who questioned my decision, the only one who saw through the facade of my calmness. You always knew how to push me."
There was a pause, a silence that spoke of years spent apart but never truly apart in heart. Jing Yuan’s voice grew quieter, and you could sense the weight of those days in his words.
"You were the only one who understood why I couldn’t stay in the commission. I had a different calling. I had a responsibility to protect, not just through policy but by leading others into the storm. But even as I left, I knew I had something to come back to. You."
Your breath caught in your throat. The soft, quiet sincerity in his voice sent a warmth through you, a reminder of everything you two had gone through. You had both come so far since those days—the uncertain children, the friends who shared hopes and dreams, the companions who grew apart with time, and then finally, the two of you, now partners who had come back together.
You reached out, your fingers brushing over his hand resting on the album. The gesture was simple, but it carried the weight of everything you had been through together.
“Jing Yuan…” You paused, your voice laced with a mixture of affection and gratitude. “Do you ever regret it? Joining the Cloud Knights, I mean. Leaving the path we once thought we’d walk together?”
He shook his head, his smile never wavering. “Regret is a luxury I don’t have. My path led me here, to this moment, with you. I could never regret that.” His eyes softened, and the warmth in his gaze spoke volumes. “Besides, I’ve always known that no matter where we go, no matter how different our paths are, we’ll always find our way back to each other.”
You smiled, feeling the soft pang of warmth spread through your chest. You leaned your head against his shoulder, content in the silence that followed, knowing that despite the differences in your paths, the bond between you had always remained strong.
The photograph in Jing Yuan’s hand fluttered softly as a gentle breeze passed through the open window, and the two of you sat there, lost in the quiet comfort of memories. The past had shaped you, but it was the present—and the future—that mattered now.
Together.
