I wanted to come on here and just say that Swifties are the nicest people to exist, I have gotten to chat with some of you guys over the past few months of me being on socials as a fan account after being a fan of Taylor for basically ten years now and let me just say this, getting a sweet and caring DM, a tweet, a comment or a reply truly makes my day a 100x better. We have to thank @taylorswift for creating such an amazing community through her music because that is the thing we all connect with, the lyrics, the music and Taylor’s talent, because she is truly amazing and makes music that is there for when you feel like you need to cry, you’re in love, you’re grieving, you feel happy or want to scream your heart out to a banger there is always gonna be a song that works perfectly. I’m grateful to be a part of this community that cares deeply for Taylor and also each other ❤️‍🩹❤️ @taylornation

I just read a re-post of one of my post from a non-gaylor, and I would like to say it was a really good, respectful answer that explained their point of view perfectly and, by any means, this post is an attemp to start beef or anything.

Being said that, one of the points that really standed out to me was how some fans would "force a queer identity on her" (not quoting them, just summarizing) and how twisting lyrics to hold a narrative or using certain interpretation of a song, was not healthy, in reference to the connection I made to the album midnights and Taylors queerness.

Now, I would like to ask, isnt twisting a lyric to fit a narrative how people started saying that Taylor was the "argumentative antithetical dream girl" she refers to in hits different, when is crearly (and is a question of grammar and basic language comprension) refering to the muse of the song?

Bet I could still melt your world, argumentative antithetical dream girl. Are you kidding me?? How could you posible say this makes sense if she was refering to herself???

Then, the paternity test constantly done by swifties to look for the muse of a song is nothing more than a certain interpretation of the lyric to fit the narrative. So that is not a thing exclusive to gaylors, almost every swiftie does it.

Now, that is what I like to call a double standard. I am not shaming the original autor of the post that have inspired this text, but pointing out a more societal problem. Very often, speculation and shipping and reading into things, if done in a hetero way is okay but do not dare to do it in a way that relates to queerness.

About the "forcing a queer identity on her", there is a thing, done through history called flagging. Safo was doing it in ancient Grecee, so did Oscar Wilde and more recently Elton John or James Dean. There are signals of the queer community to signal discretely to other lgbtq+ that they are one of them.

Taylor is not subtle about her flagging. She went out in a bi pride colored jacket to sing "and you can want who you want, boys and boys and girls and girls". She did sing about wearing someone like a necklace. She did spray paint her paint the bi colors to her gay pride music video. Use the lyric hair pin drop more than once. She puts lesbian flag colors as the main lighting in her world wide tour. And much much more. Is obvious, really out there for the people who want to see it to see.

Once you see that, you have no option but to hope she is queer; because if she was not, she would only be a straight girl that harmed the queer comunity by taking all the simbolisim that lgbtq+ people have built througt the ages and making it hetero to the mainstream, erasing the very little history the comunity has managed to create in the opressed world that it had have to endure.

So, even if I think that the answer to my previous post was really well written and respectful, I do not think it is a really nuance take.

PD: To the person behind the original blog that posted the answer, if you have read this and recognised yourself on it, just know this is not a personal attack and I apologize before hand if that felt like that to you.

tbh I didn't put much stock into the whole he went to dinner with his GF thing from DM. The details of his GF crying for some reason after Taylor is mentioned, the fact that swifties irl would do it which I don't find it as likely, the detail of him not having a reservation and then sitting at the comunal table as if he was inconsiderate and not able to afford it. It gives me the same vibes of the pool locker story. I felt like it was created by swifties to fullfill the fantasies he's having a rough life. Ironically no one ever is able to catch him with this girlfriend and share a photo. And yk swifties are dying to do it so they can evaluate how much worse she is compared to Taylor. The dinner story was also like atleast two months ago. There has never been any other spotting since then. Even if he was with someone no way to know if it was just a date or they were actually in a relationship anyway

Mmm I think that it’s possible to observe if something is a random date or a relationship. Like close friends are more likely to be mistaken for a relationship imo than a random date.

I also didn’t interpret the story AT ALL how you did? What Deux said the person told her is Joe came in with a girl (it looked romantic/they looked close), was super lowkey and nonchalant, they didn’t have a reservation so they were happy to sit at the communal table rather than make a fuss. That’s the opposite of inconsiderate imo like what would be inconsiderate is to try insist on a private table? And like do y’all only ever walk into places you’ve reserved for?? I personally only ever book if it’s for more than 2 or a notoriously busy place - and even then usually not for lunch like more for dinner? Places are rarely full for lunch? Or if it’s a special day or a very special occasion so I want to be sure we get a nice table tbh OR if it’s an early date (which imo is why I think this probably wasn’t like an early date and that’s why this person thought this is his gf).

Anyway they came in, it was full and they didn’t want to wait and said they didn’t mind sitting at the communal table, someone recognized him and started asking him questions and the girl got upset so they calmly left. I think “started crying” is likely a hyperbole but literally everything else about the story makes sense? I don’t think it’s weird to be happy to sit at the communal table if you didn’t bother to book (nor is it weird to not book for lunch) and I do think someone could’ve recognized him and I do think Swifties have no chill whatsoever so would absolutely start asking questions and if *I* were on a date with him, I’d also want to leave at that point like I wouldn’t want to sit and eat my lunch while people asked invasive questions about an ex to the person I was with (or fwiw to me). Which they did. They left.

The reason I buy this is he… actually came off well (unlike the weird changing room story) and the person who spotted them alleged they didn’t really know who he was until those Swifties started asking him questions (which I can believe because I’m sure people without brain rot would very possibly not recognize him or be like “where have I seen that guy?” about, which given the number of famous people in Manhattan, is not usually reason to like act weird) and that’s also why the person said they couldn’t remember much about the girl especially given that they didn’t stay long.

I don’t think anything there doesn’t make sense. I’m 100% sure Joe has had to leave places because of Swifties being weird (even when he was with Tay but he had a bodyguard then lol so I guess easier to manage). If I were on a date with him and Swifties got weird like I’d 100% want to leave asap. I don’t think not booking suggests you’re poor, it just suggests a lack of commitment to planning (which we know he has) and is nbd if you’re with your bf/gf/close friend/sibling on a chill hang and I don’t think being willing to sit at the communal table is weird (it just suggests he doesn’t think he’s above that which he… actually isn’t like there’s no reason he can’t sit there and had Swifties not gotten so fucking weird like they probably would’ve had a fun lunch).

I’m really not sure what part of that story Swifties would want to fanfic because the only ones who come off badly in the story are the Swifties. Not Joe, not his girl, not the narrator (who wasn’t one of the Swifties)… just the weird Swifties.

I think TS was very smart coltivating her fanbase. She managed to get it so comunity like that I suspect many swifties like being a swiftie more than they like TS and her music. I think she knows that and that's what she is really selling.

In a storm, in my best dress : fearless!

Over the years of existence of swift-france.net, we thew a lot of events in Paris for fans !

We knew we were a little growing comunity. We had to show our support to our girl @taylorswift and also to our fellow friends-French swifties

-the first event we did was a group watch of the Speak Now Tour DVD. We rent a venue, had food, brought all the international magazines with TS on the cover, had a photocall with a cardboard cut ot Tay .... and some prizes for the fans!

-for the launch of RED , we filmed a music video for 22 with French fans! We recreated some key scenes of @taylorswift music videos over Paris (included handmade costumes made by me)

During the show on the seine, we had the confirmation by Paul Sidoti Himself (screaming) that the label showed them the video !

-and the last event we made was « the Taylor swift challenge ». Basically it was a giagantic hunting game across Paris with questions for the fans, food and ... prizes for every participant !

I have to say : Even we don’t have the time to do it anymore because of work and our adult lives, imiss this golden age when we met all the French swifties!

You know that feeling of making something great , sharing a commun love , .....

@taylorswift, a little update on me, i’m doing well. i don’t have the highest test scores but seem to be getting similar end-of-term/semester grades to those whose do which is good. i’m starting work experience in the summer at a good law firm however whilst i know i want to do law in the future, i have never been more confused about what type or even what country i want to study it in. stress and anxiety get me down everyday but your music has never failed to get me back up. this entire comunity (of tumblr swifties) that you’ve brought together makes me smile everyday and has introduced me to amazing people and amazing journeys people have taken. thank you for being the incredible person you have been and always are, i promise to try and be more patient about news on ts7 (sorry i just can’t wait to see what’s coming next !!) and i can’t wait until i’m finally ‘noticed’... whenever that will be.

thank you for an amazing year in which you have brought be so much clarity through your lyrics and other words and actions. i honestly do not know where i would be without the messages and morals that you have taught guiding me. you have the strongest power over me because your music and this fandom are the only things that can make me feel better when i am at my worst. you lift me up and raise my spirits in a way i am always denying is possible and can make me smile when no one else can. i am unsure as to how you do it but honestly i do not care as long as you never stop because you are allowing myself and so many others to get up every day knowing we are not damaged goods or muddy from our failed explorations, that we are not the opinion of someone who doesn’t know us and that all the rainstorms we have walked through have made us clean. 2018 was not the right year for us to meet but i will never give up on the belief that the day for us to meet will come whether it be in 2019, 2020 or even later. as i go into the new year, i am going with hopes and dreams that i only still have faith in because of you. again, thank you.

Será que sou a única que n faz parte dos fandoms que todos fazem? Tipo, mtas pessoas fazem parte do de Divergente, Jogos Vorazes, Harry Potter entre outros e eu n. Sla, mas parece q por eles serem famosos as histórias tem o mesmo pano de fundo: A jornada do herói. Qual sua opinião sobre isso Luvith?

Eu gosto muito desse estilo de livro, como você chamou, “A Jornada do Herói”. Particularmente eu acho beeem chato livros de histórias comuns, como o “A Culpa é das Estrelas”, eu acho esse livro bem tedioso. Existem algumas exceções, como O Estrangeiro. Mas no geral minhas coleção de livros se resume a Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, As Crônicas de Gelo e Fogo, Deltora Quest etc.

Eu gosto dos “títulos” que o fandom proporciona: Eu sou uma Lufana, filha de Perséfone, da casa Targaryen, Cry Baby, Swiftie, Little Black Star, Crystal Gem e Sith (etc.)

Eu acho divertido poder me “chamar” dessa forma. Gosto de personalizar tudo na minha vida, e se isso ajuda a fazer as pessoas me conhecerem melhor, oh well... XD

O problema... É que no geral os fandoms começam com pessoas que gostam muito da história (ou do artista), e com o tempo o fandom cresce... E quando se nota, está cheio de pessoas cheias de ódio, que só sabem fazer comparações (onde aquilo que ele gosta é foda e o resto uma buesta) e arrumar treta. Recentemente eu deixei de seguir uma página de Harry Potter porque de uns tempos pra cá ela só fazia post de comparação com SENHOR DOS ANÉIS. Com todo o respeito, eu amo as duas sagas mas “WHAT?”. Vou poupar os detalhes, mas aquilo foi extremamente agressivo e principalmente a gota d’água.

Acho que pior é as brigas DENTRO do fandom. Você espera que seja um local onde todos são amigos e dividem opiniões... Mas eles acham assunto pra brigar entre si! Um exemplo ótimo é o fandom de Steven Universe. MEU DEUS. Como eu ODEIO o fandom de SU. É um povo fdp que só sabe brigar por ship, a droga do programa tem todas as lições de moral sobre o amor, dar segunda chance e compreender o próximo, e o pessoal aplaude mas não põe nada na prática. Ainda me lembro quando uma das roteiristas fez um episódios “”Lapidot”” e os fãs de Amedot infernizaram tanto a mulher que ela saiu do twitter. CARA. PRA QUE TANTO ÓDIO?!

Resumão: Eu adoro a IDEIA do fandom, os “títulos” que eles inventam (e que eu pego para mim também), mas eu não participo ativamente de nenhum pois no geral eles são bem “cancerígenos”. No facebook eu evito essas páginas, pois é mais fácil os haters (aqueles que só sbaem pregar ódio sobre tudo dentro e fora do fandom) brotarem por lá. Aqui no tumblr é mais fácil lidar, apenas sigo quem não tem ódio no coração e todos compartilhamos do nosso amor pela série/livro/artista/desenho/etc sem agredir o próximo. <3
