Inconvenience

Sy squinted at rups blurry reflection in the mirror, which was made up of nothing but vague blobs of color that only familiarity rendered into anything resembling the image of a person, and even then, the features were impossible to make out.

If sy so much as took a step backwards, or even half a step, even that would disappear, the vague shadows that were the eyes, and the slightly different blur of color that was the mouth, even a single step backwards and those were gone too, faded into the general blur of the whole head, from which no details could be picked out.

Sy leaned closer, and the reflection of rups eyes came slightly more into focus, and sy could see rups hairline with more confidence. But sy couldn’t stay that close, or sy would get hair in the sink.

This was the trouble with cutting your own hair when you had to wear glasses－you wouldn’t wear your glasses while cutting your hair.

Sy was currently attempting to give syrupself a mohawk, or rather, trying to keep the mohawk sy had given syrupself a week or two ago, which was starting to get overshadowed by the rest of rups hair as it slowly got longer.

The initial mohawk had been a spur of the moment decision the last time sy cut rups hair, so it was only two-weeks worth of growth longer than the rest of rups hair.

Sy wanted to keep it, which was a lot more difficult than just shaving rups head like sy normally did. Sy had the #1 clipper guard on the blade, the shortest one, and normally, all sy had to do was go over rups head in all directions, making sure not to miss any spots, and it would be even all over, and just the right length to be soft when sy ran rups hand through it.

Sy had tried doing a normal mohawk once, mainly because sy had taken the guard off to get the loose hair off...then, because sy'd already taken of rups glasses...started cutting rups hair like sy normally did...only to realize that the guard wasn't on, so instead of cutting to the shortest option, sy shaved all the hair off entirely.

Thankfully, sy was able to turn it into a purposeful-looking mohawk, so no harm really done, but unfortunately, having rups head shaved to the skin made the texture on rups hands uncomfortable – when sy tried to run rups hands over it, rups hand wanted to stick to it, which sy supposed was how Spiderman was able to climb things, in theory. Sy'd been expecting it to be smooth, but it wasn't. It was weird and not very fun to touch, though it definitely did look cool.

This is why sy was trying to maintain this mohawk the hard way.

It was a lot easier for rup to just shave rups head than it was to carefully keep a mohawk intact and straight, especially when sy couldn't actually see into the mirror at all while cutting.

Sy didn't know what numbers eye doctors would use to describe rups vision, but it was so blurry that the last eye examiner, upon reading the results, exclaimed in dismay, “Wow, your eyes are terrible.” That is not something sy wanted to hear at the end of an eye exam, even if it was kind of funny.

Sy leaned forward towards the mirror again until sy could start to make out the lines of rups hair, squinting in a fruitless attempt to bring it into sharer focus.

This would be so much easier if sy could actually see what sy was doing, but sy couldn't wear rups glasses while cutting, and sy didn't want to cut over the sink, since sy was trying to keep hair from going down the drain. A hand mirror would probably be a good idea.

After lining up the razor as best sy could, sy carefully pushed it backwards along rups head, and was rewarded with a small shower of cut hair down the back of rups neck.

Turning the razor around and going in the opposite direction in the same spot to make sure it was cut evenly was a million times more difficult than it needed to be. Sy kept wanting to move rups hand in the opposite direction than it was supposed to go, sy was all mixed up.

Sy would have to look up if there were tools out there to help with keeping lines straight. This was almost annoying enough not to be worth it. It would be cool to have more stripes, but that would be even more difficult than this.

But, sy would look cool, once sy could actually put rups glasses back on to be able to see, and it only took an extra ten minutes, which was still less time that in had even taken just to dry rups hair back when it was long, so it was worth it, even if it was inconvenient.

Nous vous demandons, pour une fois, de présenter l'addition à ceux qui peuvent payer. Ce serait une rup-ture, un nouveau chemin et non pas l'impasse sociale dans laquelle vous vous engouffrez.

With this prize, which has been award­ed an­nu­al­ly over the past twen­ty-three years, the or­gani­za­tion will rec­og­nize the ex­traor­d­i­nary oeu­vre of this artist, who was born in 1974 in San Fran­cis­co and now lives in New York.

The prize in­cludes the ac­qui­si­tion of a work or a group of works by the artist for the col­lec­tion of the Mu­se­um Lud­wig. An ex­hi­bi­tion of Tr­isha Don­nel­ly’s work will al­so take place at the mu­se­um, and a ca­t­a­logue will be pub­lished to com­me­m­o­rate the award. The ju­ry for the 2017 Wolf­gang Hahn Prize in­clud­ed this year’s guest ju­ror Suzanne Cot­ter, di­rec­tor of the Ser­ralves Mu­se­um of con­tem­po­rary art in Por­to; Yil­maz Dziewior, di­rec­tor of the Mu­se­um Lud­wig; Mayen Beck­mann, chair­wo­m­an of the Ge­sellschaft für Mod­erne Kunst; as well as Gabriele Bier­baum, Sabine Du­Mont Schütte, Jörg En­gels, and Robert Müller-Grünow as board mem­bers of the Ge­sellschaft für Mod­erne Kunst.

Mayen Beck­mann, chair­wo­m­an of the Ge­sellschaft für Mod­erne Kunst, of­fered the fol­low­ing state­ment on the se­lec­tion of the artist: “The ju­ry was en­thu­si­as­tic about Tr­isha Don­nel­ly’s di­verse work, which re­sists in­ter­pre­ta­tion. With sculp­tures, draw­ings, per­for­mances, films, and pho­to­graphs, she cre­ates works that lead us as view­ers in­to en­tire­ly dif­fer­ent spheres of per­cep­tion. Her con­sis­ten­cy and rad­i­cal ap­proach to ques­tions of aes­thet­ics or re­cep­tion were an im­por­tant rea­son for hon­or­ing Tr­isha Don­nel­ly with the Wolf­gang Hahn Prize. This is very much in keep­ing with the spir­it of Wolf­gang Hahn, who saw the con­nec­tion be­tween life and art in the avant-garde.”

Suzanne Cot­ter, di­rec­tor of the Ser­ralves Mu­se­um of con­tem­po­rary art in Por­to: “The Wolf­gang-Hahn Prize is one of the most in­spir­ing awards for con­tem­po­rary artists of its kind, and it is with enor­mous plea­sure that the prize this year goes to Tr­isha Don­nel­ly. Tr­isha Don­nel­ly is with­out doubt one of the most com­pelling artists of our time whose work of­fers en­tire­ly new ways of ex­pe­ri­enc­ing and think­ing about form, at once sy­naes­th­esic and dis­rup­tive­ly tran­s­port­ing. As an artist she oc­cu­pies a po­si­tion of com­mitt­ed re­sis­tance to the easy ap­pro­pri­a­tion of art as some­thing con­tained and ul­ti­mate­ly con­trol­lable. At the same time, the ex­traor­d­i­nary generos­i­ty of her work, that touch­es on the vi­su­al – in par­tic­u­lar the pho­to­graph­ic – , the spo­ken, the au­ral and the phys­i­cal, is elec­tri­fy­ing in its per­mis­sion.”

Yil­maz Dziewior, di­rec­tor of the Mu­se­um Lud­wig: “For us as an in­sti­tu­tion whose mis­sion is to col­lect con­tem­po­rary art, the pre­sen­ta­tion of the prize to Tr­isha Don­nel­ly is ex­cel­lent news. I have fol­lowed Tr­isha’s work close­ly for years; she brings the problem that artists have long worked on—­name­ly, what the very con­cept of an art­work mean­s—in­to the fu­ture. Her in­de­pen­dence and re­sis­tance to all forms of ap­pro­pri­a­tion are es­sen­tial el­e­ments of her work, as is her abil­i­ty to ad­just to the spe­cif­ic ex­hi­bi­tion venue and con­text, on­ly to over­turn ev­ery­thing, to dis­pense with any con­text of mean­ing, and to di­rect­ly ap­peal to the view­er. The Wolf­gang Hahn Prize thus once again sets new stan­dards by rec­og­niz­ing an ex­traor­d­i­nary and pi­oneer­ing artist.”

BAUWENS and Eb­n­er Stolz, two lo­cal com­pa­nies in Cologne, will cont­in­ue their long-term sup­port of the award cer­e­mony in 2017 as well as the ex­hi­bi­tion at the Mu­se­um Lud­wig and the publi­ca­tion. In 2016 both com­pa­nies agreed to gener­ous­ly sup­port the Wolf­gang Hahn Prize for at least three years.

Edit: You can submit stories with any neopronouns, even if I've already used them! I'm trying to use as many as possible, so I'm trying not to repeat them, but you are allowed to use any you want!

Update December 23rd 2023: alright, you can submit fanfiction that uses neopronouns to this blog as long as you aren't changing the pronouns of character who canonically use other neopronouns, and aren't shipping anything harmful.

Please feel free to send in requests for neopronouns for me to write for! You can pick multiple, just specify if you want them to be for more than one character, or one character with multiple sets. (Yes, you can also have multiple characters all using the same pronouns).
