So turns out that one of the main reasons Iceland are so supportive of Trans Rights is that one of their sons/nephews (the act are all siblings) is Trans? And it's just making me super emotional like... just imagining your whole family standing on an international platform and being so openly supportive of you and everyone like you?

And fighting to make sure that all other kids are accepted and understood and taking on that burden so your life can be easier?

I found a video of them performing the song at Söngvakeppnin last year, and thought it may be potentially helpful with figuring out the bit you couldn’t make out in the chorus. I was straining my ears to that trying to figure out what on earth "Trúirðu að himintunglin hafi taui í" was supposed to mean and then ohhh my god it's hafið togi í. Okay, that makes sense. (Except for the bit where most of the song is about believing in cryptids and unlikely events but the moon pulling the ocean is just straight-up science. I was assuming this line was something about astrology but no, it's just about the tides? Do you believe in the tides? Okay then)

Another anon request, this song by Systur (of "Með hækkandi sól" fame, Iceland's Eurovision entry last year) is about believing in repairing broken relationships. Transcript and translation below.

There's only one bit I really, really can't make out, which is the last bit of "Trúirðu að himintunglin hafi..." Please let me know if you can figure it out. I did figure it out, it was hafið togi í. A couple of things could be slightly off.

Translation notes

The word furðuverur is literally just "wonder creatures" and refers to mythical beings as well as the more modern sort of cryptid.

The second couplet could mean "In every step there is some doubt about me and you" or "In every step, is there some doubt about me and you?" I went with the former because the presence of doubt about the relationship seems pretty definitive in the song, but the latter would sort of fit better with how most of the song is asking questions.

The last line of the first verse originally has a bit of word play, describing both the new day and the questions as "waking". That didn't quite make sense in English so I just reproduced the overall sense of linking together the dawning of the new day and the questions.

I'm amused that most of the song is about whether you believe in mythological or folk-belief things or else immaterial concepts, but then one of them is "Do you believe that celestial bodies pull the ocean?" which is just straight-up science. Yes, the sun and moon pull the oceans, it's called the tides, I better hope you believe in them or you'll get stuck at the Grótta lighthouse at high tide.
