Dungeons & Daddies fic 3/∞ (season 1&2 spoilers)

Part three to my Grant & Marco origins fic. I almost don't hate this :D If you see typos or grammatical errors no you don't, English is my second language gimme a break <3

I lean right and ease off the throttle, guiding my motorcycle into Dad’s driveway. The engine hums under me for a moment longer as I come to a halt and I flick the switch to silence it. I find the kickstand with my foot and prop the bike up. The hum of the ride-on lawn mower greets me when I take off my helmet. Next comes Dad’s singing. This is his favourite thing to do on a Saturday morning, belt out Taylor Swift and make funny shapes in the grass with the lawnmower. 

I walk between the house and garage to get to the backyard. It’s small enough it shouldn’t warrant a ride-on mower, but that wasn’t up for discussion. The Craftsman T100 is his prized possession and there’s no way out of it. 

Cupping my mouth with my hands I try to shout and catch his attention. No luck. Soon enough he’ll turn around and see me. I don’t think I’ve ever met a man who’s so unbothered by everything. Even when mom left, it just wasn’t a thing. Well, except for him buying the Craftsman. I guess that was his call for help.

Dad turns around and his eyes light up. “Hi there!” he yells through his music. I wave and wait for him to drive to me and take off his headphones. He has a knowing smile that immediately tells me what’s up. Henry has ratted me out.

 I hug him back, and for a moment there’s just silence in my head. But as I let go, the thoughts come flooding back in. Duty. Doom, but not the game, unfortunately.

“Out with it already,” I say. “We both know what you’re thinking so might as well say it.”

He pulls back and smiles. “Don’t know what you are talking about, son.” Dad takes my helmet and walks ahead to open the back door. “Come on in, I have hot coffee on the stove.” 

He makes the absolute worst coffee. It’s dark and bitter, but it’ll keep you up alright. Luckily his skills in front of the grill compensate for what he lacks in the beverage department. Last summer he bought the Ooni pizza oven, no one made a remark it was his and mom’s wedding anniversary, but it was. The pizzas were good, though.

I take my Fortnite mug and cover the coffee with a long slosh of milk. Visiting this house is a mixed bag. In part, I’m glad Dad hasn’t sold my childhood home. There are good memories too, most before Forgotten Realms. Sparse few after. Often I think it might do us some good to move on. But that’s not Dad’s M.O.

“Beef Jerky?” 

I turn to see Dad seated behind the kitchen island, he’s fiddling with a white plastic dome. I file through our texts in my memory, this must be the dehydrator he was talking about.

“I’m good,” I say, and take a seat opposite him.

“How’s work?” he asks.

“No deaths today as of yet.”

“That’s a grim way to look at it,” he says. 

“It’s a grim world you’ve left us,” I counter.

We sit in silence for a moment. It’s hard to remember what life was like when the sky wasn’t red,  and when my phone buzzing in my back pocket was a reminder of a new mod in the game, not coordinates of a new incursion point. 

“So, Henry-,” dad starts.

“I don’t wanna talk about it,” I say on top of him. 

He takes a contemplative sip of his coffee. “Isn’t that why you’re here though? You never come in on Saturdays.”

He’s got me there. 

Before I’m forced to come up with a response, the doorbell rings, followed by a rhythmic knock. I’m saved by the bell. While Dad goes to open the door, I check my phone for any new alerts. None. But there are messages from Marco.

I’m at D.A.D.D.I.E.S today, promised to be on call for the weekend. (Marco)

I can feel a blush spreading across my face and neck at the last message. I look up from my phone, and all I see is Dad’s back. I think it might be Uncle Ron he’s talking to. I hear the word business mentioned multiple times. I stare at my phone and try to think of a reply. I didn’t altogether hate our time together. Okay, that’s a lie, I actually enjoyed myself a lot. That’s the scariest thing.

I can’t think of an answer before Dad walks back into the kitchen, carrying a case of beer. The side of it reads “Beer on Tap, Pants on Point”. I shrug it off, I gave up following the details of their brewery probably three re-brandings ago. I lower my phone on the table and take a sip of cold coffee. 

“How’s Uncle Ron?” I ask.

“Oh, he’s okay. On his way to open the TBBE for us.”

That’s Dad and Ron’s bar, The Businessman's Beverage Emporium. I’m not sure what’s up with dads and these abbreviations.

“He asked me to say hello, and remind you that riding a motorcycle is not a sound business decision,” Dad continues. We’ve had this discussion before with Dad, and Ron. If he is allowed to buy a horde of machines to cope with his divorce, surely it’s my prerogative to ride nearly 200 miles an hour on the highway with nothing around me to protect me if I crash. When I get pulled over, all I need to do is to show my D.A.D.D.I.E.S badge and I’ll be soon on my way again. 

My phone buzzes on the counter. I ignore it, thinking it’s Marco. When the alert sounds only seconds after I grab my phone. The message is splayed right on my home screen, accompanied by a loud alert that ignores any silent setting on your phone. Dad stands up and fetches my helmet. They’ve been retired from duty for a few years now. It’s all on us now. 

New incursion point located at the D.A.D.D.I.E.S HQ, all agents report to base.

the thing about the 100 is that like yeah it’s not of the same writing quality as shows like stranger things overall BUT (and this is referring to the first two seasons specifically) they did a way better job of having a large cast of characters and making them all interact pretty regularly. like clarke is the main character and she has a fairly strong relationship (meaning like multiple scenes with these characters where she has actual conversations of substance) with finn, bellamy, octavia, raven, jasper, monty, even murphy later in the show. they all intermingle and they don’t stay locked in their little clusters or duos. they all genuinely care about each other and show concern for each other. like WHY is that so hard for every other show on earth to comprehend

Why do i like,, lowkey trust the jpates w jiara 😳 like just judging from the way they confirmed they were getting them together even before season 2 released was so 😣 yes. plus the season in general, the nice lil build up from eps 8-10 and ofc the surf trip scene was too good. idk if theyre in charge of writing as well but they clearly know what theyre doing, in terms of jiara at least. they will give us angst and everything else thats good & i'm ready. gimme it! they must also know by now that jiara's the most popular ship on their show, and to think it wasn't even planned? damn. ++they were also seen liking edits of them on insta a few days after the release?? thats so cute idc loll (this is coming from a t100 stan and i wont even utter his name but may god help him)

I definitely trust the Pates! What they give us might not be perfect, but what I see are producers who are making an effort to make the ship good, have put thought into why it is the fans are attracted to the dynamic in the first place so they can capitalize on that, and just generally love the show they are producing and respect the fans that allow them to do so. That means more to me than an absolutely perfect television show ever will. It has heart and so do they.

Season two could have went so badly and it didn’t. Would I have liked to have seen a tad more Jiara in the middle and less Pokie? For sure. But they did all that they did carefully and delivered us some awesome content. As far as getting into what individual content they produce, Jonas has done more directing (notably, a lot of the best love triangle framing in S2 and the scenes in 2x10 were his episodes) while Josh does more writing alongside Shannon Burke. But I think Josh is finally directing an episode in season three which I am excited to see!

Don’t even get me started on the 100. The Pates would never.

Ok, I could’ve sworn I was tagged by @aleksandrachaev but now the notification has disappeared? Idk what the hellsite is up to by making me think I have notifications, but I’m going to do this anyway 😂 😂 . I haven’t looked too closely at my stats and everything in a while, so this will be fun!

Three. One random one shot for each ER and T100. The rest are all AoS!

Actually, wait. Since Kat says (and I agree whole heartedly!) that Black Widow is it’s own fandom, then make that 4! I wrote a one shot of an alternate end credit scene for that movie!

4. what are your top 5 fics by kudos? (I’m not including the ones I have cowritten)

Everything’s Changing 372 Kudos-  Talk about a wild idea I had watching a movie from the 90s. Anywayyyy. Philinda and Philindaisy moments. Lots of fluff. (which if you know me, you know I do more angst these days.  😂)

We’ve Come a Long Way from Where We Began 265 kudos - Aww! The first thing I ever wrote! Lots of May and Daisy moments and they work t reunite their team. (But also I now refuse to read this because I can see how much my writing has improved since then, and now I get mad at previous me 😂)

A Bad *Axe* Birthday 177 Kudos- May gives Daisy an axe for her birthday, and teaches her to throw it. Because to quote Rosa Diaz from B99 “What kind of woman doesn’t have an axe?”

I Took You for Granted 150 Kudos- TBH, I’m surprised this one was this high? It’s not one of the better things I’ve written tbh. But it’s May and Daisy, in season 7, and God knows they needed more scenes together, so maybe that’s why this one is on the list.

Ummmm YES! You kind person took the time to leave me a comment! I will let you know my appreciation for that! No comment is too big or too small! You can literally comment a <3 and I will respond because you made my day! That said, I usually respond like once a month to all the comments that have been building up in my inbox

6. what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

*cackles* Ummmm. I have several, but I think the angstiest would be The Unimaginable. Poor May just lost everyone in this fic.

I don’t think so? Only hate for making people feel too many feels  😂 😂 😂

Yes, but not lately. And it usually has feelings involved. No plots usually, but feelings yes.

Philindaaaaaaa. I have way too many feels about those two. 

14. what’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Anything that’s in my old laptop. I got a new computer about 6 months ago, and any of my WIPs that somehow didn’t transfer over will probably never be finished. 😔

15. what are your writing strengths?

Angst! Also fluff (if I’m in the right mood). Sometimes humor! (again, depends on the mood.)

16. what are your writing weaknesses?

Feels I think? Sometimes I just write and then I go back to read it later and the dialogue in the feels particularly cringey. Also, I have a habit of using my southern slang in random places if I’m writing while tired, so I try to double check that.  😂

17. what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Personally, I’ve only done it a couple of times, and for very short sentences or phrases because I don’t want to accidentally say something wrong and make a mess of things! I sadly only speak English with a few words of Spanish and Italian thrown in for funsies. Still waiting on a fic where I can randomly throw in a word or two in Italian.

18. what was the first fandom you wrote for?

Agents of Shield I believe! Unless you count the poorly written story I practically copied from an episode of Desperate Housewives that I was probably way too young to be watching. I wrote with gel pen on some loose leaf paper and then put into a pronged folder. I was maybe... 12? Mayyyyybe 13?

19. what’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

It’s like choosing my favorite child! (Not that I have children, but I do have 4 pets and I can easily tell you who my favorite pet is. 😂)

Hands down, I think my favorite has to be It’s Only a Matter of Time. I wrote a spec fic before the AoS finale where the team splits up across time, and I sobbed so hard while writing it!

Also I really really like The Unimaginable listed above with the angsty ending!

Hi Iva, i was wondering... I just read your thoughts on S1E6 and that reminded me of something i always wanted to ask you. Have you ever read the T100 novels? If not pls don't read further, i don't want to spoil anything. If yes... then i'm curious to know your opinion on the Blakes (on the ark) here. It's different than in the series (well... most of it is different but...). At some point, if i recall it correctly (it's been a while since i read the books), Bellamy was forced to actually KILL his own mother, to SAVE Octavia! She was about to choke her to death! I can't remember every detail, but what really shook me was the fact, that Aurora was willing to kill her own baby daughter bc of that law of the ark, that only one child per family was allowed. I remember that i just... sat there with the book in my hands and the tears were streaming down my face. I felt SO BAD for both of the siblings! It was HORRIBLE! I don't really want to know what was going on in Bellamy's mind after this. It must have been a nightmare of guilt and anger and helplessness and... gods... I don't recall his age. But it must've had a real impact on his young soul and mind. Something that haunted him throughout his whole life afterwards... Lots of hugs! Anne

Hey, Anne! Thank you for this wonderful question!

While it is true that the books are much weaker than the show there are a couple of things that I actually love about them-one being how she describes the Ark and the system there and actually the difference between the stations like the way they talk and the different lifestyles (one reason why I wanted to write an Ark AU was so that I could explore those things myself because I loved them in the books) and the other was how she handled the Blake siblings. (okay and maybe the third would be Luke and Glass cause they were cool too!). 

I think the show really glossed over what exactly happened there for Bellamy, O and Aurora especially when it comes to the psychological part of things. I think a reason for that is cause J/ason doesn’t like doing flashbacks and because he doesn’t really know how to write that well for Bellamy (as admitted by him). 

What I love about the book is that it actually dwells on all of it very well. Kass did an amazing job there. You could see the psychological struggle that Aurora was going through, the FEAR of them being found out that starts bordering with crazyness and Bellamy as the only sane person, again the actual adult in the household. 

If I remember correctly yes what you mention is that Aurora did try to choke Octavia once. If I recall correctly Bellamy came home and found them right in that moment and saved his sister and Aurora was like-you don’t understand, you can’t have both a mother and a sister.

VERY powerful imo! Amazing scenes there for the Blakes, just amazing.

And then what happened in the end was that Aurora TW SUICIDE HERE-but she slit her wrists or if it wasn’t that she took some medicine? Not sure but she was killing herself and Bellamy found her a little before she died and he remembered her words

That he can’t have both a mother and a sister.

So he chose to have a sister. 

And he took Octavia and they hid in the bedroom and waited for Aurora to die. After, he called the guards in and said they had no idea what happened and when she did this to herself.

Absolutely stunning work imo.

And then they get adopted to orphaniges which again makes sense. And if I recall correctly, Bellamy went in to bring O food and stuff and beat some people who bothered her. And it was then that O became kind of addicted to drugs if I remember well because she couldn’t sleep and had headaches and the nurses gave her medicine.

And then it was then he himself met Lily and I think the Lily SL is awesome when it comes to Bellarke and adds such an extra layer, it’s something I’d have loved seeing in canon imo. Him falling for her begrundingly, having a best friend and then her being experimented on by her parents and dying but Clarke meeting her and knowing her. 

AWESOME. But yes I definitely love what kass did with the blakes and I think it’s a shame J/ason never explored what actually happened there and how it affected them. In fact I don’t think he ever had such big plans for bellamy at all, it was bob who gave meaning and substanance to the character, making people fall in love with him. I frankly think J/ason would’ve otherwise killed him season 1 or 2. 

But yes overall I love the whole blake sibs story in the books more because it has more substanance and meaning. It has background. Here we see them together in one episode and that is six and it jumps from her being born to her being like 6-7 and then to her beign caught up.

I’ve always wanted to see more like the psychological state of the characters-all three of them as well as Aurora’s death because I believe Bellamy was there when she was floated and I really think that’d have made one hell of a scene.

Ship that is unpopular but you still like: 💘Ship that needs more love: 💖 ?

💖 I'm going with Mackson as they're one of my fave canon couples, but you really only see content for them in spurts? I thought they were a lovely match for each other, and these two brought us some really heartwarming moments in the last three seasons.

💘 Omg it's so unpopular it hurts, lol... but Echo and Hope!! Those two ladies had so much chemistry, moreso than even a lot of t100's couples I thought. And I mean the DRAMA of Echo ending up with someone who likely wouldn't have survived without Octavia?? I can't even. Everytime they were on screen together I was sure they were going to kiss.

i’ve never created fanart for a character/fandom in my life because i’m not a very artsy person, so i’m sure it’s difficult beyond my imagination and that fan artists are trying their best with their work, especially in such a toxic fandom like t100, and deserve appreciation for their content but.

it’s very interesting to me still that fanart toward bellamy made by artists who have positive feelings about his character showed him as light skinned or even visibly fucking white. and then later, in fanart posts that are dated sometime around 2016/season three of t100 when bellamy was a “villain,” the fanart of him made by these same exact artists show him as brown and the caption of the post is something degrading towards him. even in a fanart post dated in season one/2014, bellamy’s character was not only visibly brown but also being villainized for every single one of his actions in season one and even depicted clarke hitting him, with the caption being, and this is paraphrased, “i really want to punch bellamy in the face rn.”

and like bellamy or not, it’s really fucking racist, and is point-blank white washing. first of all, if you don’t like a character, don’t create content for that character that degrades them and put it in the character’s tag, that’s an ass move. two, stop whitewashing canonical characters/people of color, regardless of your opinion on them.

three thoughts about raven reyes (& 1 thought about Murven endgame)

ONE

I loved Raven Reyes from the millisecond she showed up on screen. I started watching from the very first episode of t100 but I got truly invested once she showed up and that has never changed. She’s so complicated but at the same time her motivations are simple to figure out if you consider her past and what it was like for her to grow up on the Ark. This might get me some shade but I don’t think a lot of fandom understands Raven at all, and that makes me sad (and also angry lbr). She’s one of the most forgiving characters on this show, she wears her heart on her sleeve and you never have to guess where you stand with her. Raven can be tremendously kind and understanding but she can also tear you down and make you feel small if she disagrees with your choices. I happen to think this is one of her strengths. She deserves so much happiness even though she thinks she doesn’t. It’s not even remotely a stretch to say that she may very well be my favorite character of all time. -JENN

A beautiful, iconic genius. I love how from her introduction, there’s no problem she can’t handle or won’t approach. She’s Raven Reyes and she’s a badass with an amazing mind. Yes, she faces challenges, as all these characters face, but she has such a tenacity when it comes to approaching them which I really love. I think it’s been so great to see this character, played by such a great actress, during the years of t100. -RYN

i find she’s often overlooked for how much representation she brings to the show. she’s not necessarily underrated, but just not appreciated enough for how much she can mean to people. raven reyes is a woman in stem, a woman of colour, and a woman with a disability. on top of that, she is so kickass and kind and funny and beautiful and strong - she isn’t reduced to tokenism, she is an integral part of the show. i love raven reyes and lindsey morgan for the comfort and inspiration they give so many people. -ELLE

TWO

Her strength is something that I think is both one of the most powerful and interesting parts of her character. Her season four arc really broke my heart, in the best way since I love pain, but I absolutely loved that she chose to live. That she fought back against every odd and said “screw that” and powered on. She does struggle, yes, she feels pain and experiences loss and everything else that all the characters face, which I think is important, to show that she isn’t unbreakable. She also confronts those struggles by continuing forward though, and doing what she can for herself and her people. -RYN

despite what canon says, i think that she has always been morally gray in her actions. she took extreme actions against grounders in season one. she wanted to turn murphy over to the grounders in season two. she was pretty complacent in the nightblood experiments in season four. she helped with the flame in season five. in season seven, she wants murphy and emori to keep up the prime act. she’s complex and contradictory and realistic and human. -ELLE

For Raven, family is everything and once she counts you as hers, she’s not letting go without a fight. She felt this way about Finn, which I hated at first, but I have come to appreciate their relationship more and respect her feelings for him as her family even after what he did. She’s willing to do anything for her family, including stay behind alone in space, facing likely death like when it meant getting Spacekru back to Earth safely. We see the devastation she takes on when she loses family and how it haunts her and also influences her actions. This outlook is still going strong in s7 when she fights to bring Echo back to herself and throws being a family in Bellamy’s face when she feels that he has betrayed them. I don’t think anything motivates Raven more than family. -JENN

THREE

Thinking about regrets I’ll have that we likely won’t see for Raven, I think it’s particularly traumatic that Finn, Sinclair and Abby all died right in front of her while she could do absolutely nothing about it. All three were her family and I think the helplessness & guilt that she felt regarding their deaths (and to an extent Monty & Harper too, based on what she says after learning of their deaths) really plays a big role on who she has become over the seasons. I wish canon took a deeper look into that but I do think Lindsey does a particularly good job at showing devastated emotions (sob) so at least I got that. I am truly turning myself into a pretzel to cross my entire body that Raven gets her happy ending, but I will add the caveat that it better make sense for her & not be some bs last-minute move that ruins her character either. -JENN

We love color symbolism!! I love Raven’s red jacket and the repeated red symbolism we get for her. Not just because, of course, it ties with Murphy’s symbolism as well (I see you red jacket patch, I see you), but also because I think it shows her character so well. I enjoyed it so much when they brought the jacket, or one like it, back this season, and think it shows how all the character arcs, but specifically hers, are circling back and connecting them to who they were in season one to who they are now. Hopefully, this circling will include satisfying conclusions for her and the others. -RYN

raven reyes is the only one who should be allowed to call murphy a cockroach. with anyone else, it bothers me, but with (the) raven, it’s fine. i think that’s just because of the development they’ve have. it was a title born out of hatred, but it has since evolved into an inside joke for the pair, and it’s even a bit of a mantra. i know a lot of people disliked the “go be a cockroach” line in season seven, but to me i think it was her way of saying (in a high stress situation) “i need you to survive, like you always do” á la season four’s “go. survive” and “that’s what cockroaches do, right?” lines. every cockroach needs a raven. -ELLE

what’s your ideal ending for Murven?

I feel like there’s two viewpoints I’m torn between - what I want to happen vs. what’s appropriate for the story. IMHO the ending for them that’s appropriate for the story is that they die together. It’s a huge part of their dynamic that canon has set up since early s2. If the show does it well, showing that Raven & Murphy actively choose not to leave each other or it’s a scenario where it’s inevitable and they sort of peacefully accept it and perhaps do something heroic at the end, then as sad as I’d be, I’d also probably love it and would completely accept it. And then I’d write reincarnation fic or something, LOL! But what I want to happen - oh well, in that case - I’d like them both to survive and have maybe a hint or two that the option of them being together is there. Personally I don’t need them to be romantic canon in the end if we can at least leave the ending up to interpretation but I would sell my soul for them to kiss onscreen at least once. I don’t care how or why just let me have it!! -jenn

a quiet life in sanctum. i think after all the danger and pain they’ve experienced, they deserve a nice peaceful life. my ideal would be them being together, living in a cute little cottage style house. raven would take over the machine shop, getting to tinker around all day. murphy would work at the bar/kitchen, getting to chat and joke around with people all day. they would come home and talk about their days or hang out with their friends, never without some playful teasing, and then they would fall asleep together - peaceful and happy. -elle

Okay, this is more than simply just sad, but my ideal goal is a final, important moment between them. I have been theorizing and predicting a possible Murphy death since really the season started, and I’m scared to admit I feel like it is heading there. So, while I think it’s gonna break my damn heart, I want Murphy to have a true hero’s death (if he does have to die which I am not down with or excited about but what I feel is indeed coming) and a final important moment with Raven, who I feel with pretty intense certainty will live and (hopefully) lead a very full and happy life. It’s not a perfect ending, or the ending I would’ve written for them, but this is where my ideal meets my acknowledgement of canon meets haha. -ryn

I mean I hope that Bellarke gets together but do you think that it's going to happen? I would aposolutly love if they got together but do you think that there's enough time for them to get together? And if they do get together do you think that well get to see B&C realizing that there It for each other. They've always been each other's love, even if it took them sometime to realize it

There isn’t a doubt in my mind that they’re getting together. IMO, Be/cho’s only purpose was to keep Bellarke apart and, welp, that relationship has been stabbed to death. It’s just a matter of it becoming official.

It’s long but it’s a drunk rant so it’s not like it’s a difficult read lol. 

Bellarke already know that the other is it for them. Bellamy cannot live without Clarke and we’re about to find out that Clarke has no interest in living without him. I mean this is literally canon (the first part at least - see my drunk rant for proof - and Bellamy HAS a canonical girlfriend lol).  

Not only do they know about their own love but literally every single other character has picked up on it. The only two people who don’t know that the other one loves them is Space Idiot B and Space Idiot C. 

And remember, in t100 time, S5-7 has happened in about a month. A MONTH. Bellamy went 6 years thinking she was dead and she spent 6 years thinking of HIM only to have him come down with a girlfriend. And then in that time, she died for a while (and he literally brought her back to life) and now he’s missing. 

How is this NOT an epic love story? Jroth isn’t a complete idiot. He knows what he has. There’s a reason we’ve never been given a reason to give a sth about Be/cho. It’s because it was never supposed to be the love story.

tbh i recently rewatched the first two seasons of t100 and lizard was fantastic. the scene where she reluctantly shoots dante with tears in her eyes? honestly excellent. lots of good scenes. feels like she got her paycheque for the rest of the show after season 2 and then said 🤠 haha sike i’m actually a horrible person and am going to act the absolute bare minimum 🤠. not that that’s how tv paycheques work but still.

As big of a sentient colostomy bag as she is...she WAS the highlight of the show the first three seasons. What happened to her? Only the gods know but to say that she didn’t deliver some really great performances even during the dumpster fire that was season 1 is to just be straight up lying.
