Another name for the series could be the cat’ty concubines. Seriously. The entire series is made up of a man the marquis (played by Wallace Chung) who has a lot of concubines that try to outdo one another in all different sinister ways. It also has a. hateful terrible mother who was the one who picked the concubines in the first place who who apparently we are supposed to sympathize with?. For me it takes a handful episodes to get into, but then it becomes fun and enjoyable where you root for the good side watching everything unfold. Yes it might be predictable and cliche but it’s entertaining as heck. Unfortunately it doesn’t last long and towards the last ten episodes it falls of the rails again and becomes meh. Still would recommend it though for a watch just keep the fast forward button handy.

THOUGHTS ABOUT FLIGHT TO YOU / DRAMA RECOMMENDATION

I am a simple girl, I saw Wang Kai wearing a pilot costume and clicked the summary. It turned out to be interesting enough for me to give it a try. And I am telling you, it's so good so far. It might be too early to say that but it's also a refreshing modern cdrama which is a pleasant surprise.

The main characters get off on the wrong foot as usual, but not in a childish way because the main conflict is very fragile and that's why I find it very convincing.

The female lead, one of the best female leads I've ever watched in a cdrama, is a pilot and works at Freight Department of a company called Luzhou Airlines. While she expects to be promoted to captain she finds out the department will be closed and the crew will be transferred to Passenger Department. She is the only female pilot in the company and her superiors start giving her a hard time, because they don't think that a female pilot can be competent and skillful.

The male lead-thankfully not a misogynstic bastard like his superior- has different reasons for not approving of the female lead as a potential captain. He thinks she overlooks some safety measures and is too arrogant. That's interesting because you usually see this trait is associated with male characters. Actually you get used to seeing that all roles reverse while watching it.

By the way he is a control freak but there's a reason for that which is very tragic. They argue a lot and she never hesitates to get into a conflict with him openly. So he ends up being her instructor and she needs his approval to continue her career as a pilot at the new department.

This is not one of those usual workplace romance stories. The settings, the environment, it's all about the lives of the flying crew which is very intriguing. The conflicts are so solid, the decisions are serious, the struggles of the leads are very difficult. As for romance, the slowest burn ever maybe but it makes sense.

This is the first scene where I feel their chemistry.

They are in a flight simulator. He is so strict about the dress code and the appearances of the pilots so he asks her to remove her earrings. She is like what can be wrong with my earrings and so done with him ofc but does what he says.

When she gives her earrings to him, he is like why are you giving them to me, and asks if she has pockets. This is the face she gives him:

LMAO. She is like “not my problem, you take care of it.”

When he decides to overlook her attitude and doesn't take her seriously, she takes his hand and puts her earrings into it.

In the end he puts her earrings into his pocket.

I just love the whole interaction!

Depending on how you watch this for me at least, it got boring as heck, then it would get interesting then roller coaster right back to draggy again. It’s broken down to two seasons. The The second season was definitely more hard to get through. I mean overall it’s a very very predictable drama, nothing new to the ceo/office love/hate scenario. Unfortunately with this series It has a love triangle. It’s probably one of the worse love triangles I’ve seen in a drama in a long time since you know the outcome. It also didn’t help that the main leads didn’t have much chemistry going on for them either 🤷‍♀️ Here and there it did have some cute nice moments but I don’t think it outcome the bad for me.

The Way Back to Love; CW: Road Home

The truth is I love second-chance romance stories. I’m there for the angst and the pinning; the long stares full of unspoken words; and the inevitable reconnection. As they said, love is sweeter the second time around. And so, when I heard that Jing Bo Ran and Tan Song Yun are starring in a Cdrama as ex-lovers that gets a second chance in love called Road Home, I knew that I needed to see it. I have watched the first 15 eps, and I have mix thoughts.

For me personally, the best part of these second chance love stories is the angst. I’m definitely on board for that slow-burn romance development. But in the case of Road Home, I actually prefer the parts where they’re being cutesy.  The angsty part didn’t even last that long (to my disappointment), and it felt like their initial issues was just swept under. 

I have read a lot of praises about how the leads capture the look of longing. I get it.

I just find it really awkward when this sort of scenes is always done in slow motion, in 5 different angles for at least 20 seconds with a melancholic background music. I understand the creative reason behind it, to let the viewers know that they miss each other, but it gets tedious watching it once in a while.  The production team must like to drag out scenes because there are even some cutesy scenes that are like this too. There is some editing done in the show that is definitely not my favorite. 

I do love their scenes in Xining. The snowy setting is absolutely beautiful and I wish they filmed more scenes there. 

Another best part of the show is Jing Bo Ran’s character. He just looks and play the part so well. I can’t imagine anyone to play Lu Yan Chen other than him. Tang Song Yun’s character is also a girl boss. Together, they make me feel so single. 

In essence, I think this is an okay drama. I understand where the criticisms are coming from: the drama being too slow and boring. In my opinion, I do think the first 4 eps were a drag, but naturally dramas like this are supposed to be slow. This isn’t a makjang drama with twists left and right. This is a story about two people finding each other again. There are obviously barriers in their love story: their pasts, their families, their respective backgrounds, work etc which I supposed adds flavor to the story. You can say it can be unrealistic sometimes but it’s not really over the top.

Overall, the acting is good, the chemistry between the leads is there, and if you’re watching this for the romance, you will get served.
