I haven't posted in a while so here’s one of my folders in my notes app dedicated to lmk :)

a lot of people head canon that macaque smells like mango’s or plums or whatever stone fruit you associate him with but I think it would really awesome if he smelled like curry 24/7, it is in fact the only thing he knows how to make. AND HES GREAT AT IT. I think it would be really funny if he smelled like a whole thanksgiving, he smells like curry and can’t get rid of it. 

-Now realizing that in the first episode in lmk Monie king took some of mks powers away so he could learn better, right? We never see swk give them back (and YES he did say Mk COULD get them back). Bro defeated LBD without his extra power not even MONKIE KING could beat her. IMAGINE WHAT MK COULD DO WITH HIS FULL POWER. LIKE CMON.

-i think that it would be cool if when Mac and swk were younger they would have a bad habit of when they talk they would get so rapped up in the situation and find themselves REALLY close to eachother and old habits die hard I guess because skip forward to Mk times and I  think they would still sometimes find themselves do that and immediately get REALLY embarrassed

Tang’s  is going to the noodle shop, and yes I’m insinuating that he’s stressed all the time

Mk’s: he doesn’t have one, he bottles it up 

Mei: she would go to one of those rooms where you can pay to break stuff

Bai he: she talks to macaque, he braids her hair while she rants, or they’re making curry

Redson: he makes little robots or he works on his cars that have atleast one epic transformation

Great Tang Rant (LMK)

Alright I need to get this off of my chest

I love LMK so much but they way they mischaracterize Tripitaka is atrocious. Literally his reincarnation (Mr.Tang) acts more like him then their representation of the tang monk. 

Tripitaka has like three main character traits, being humble, reacting like a human being, and being to kind for his own good and LMK pulled a complete 180 on us and said “That’s Tripitaka for you, self righteous, eternally calm, and antisocial”

The only thing they got right about him is that he studied a lot, grew up in a monastery, and is a monk. 

They didn’t even get his clothes right. he doesn’t wear the fancy robes because he finds them to ostentatious and bhudists have that whole thing about vanity. That is until he goes to the Thunder cloud monastery to collect the scrolls, which was the exact occasion it was given to him for. The only exception to that is the time he was asked to put it on by the leader of a small monastery and that ended with monks trying to burn him to death to steal his clothes so obviously he never did it again. 

The worst part it that their representation of Tripitaka has lead to people genuinely believing that the character is abusive which is the farthest thing from the truth. Like yeah he used the tight hoop spell on Sun Wukong but only when he literally murdered someone. Also it wasn’t even his idea, Guanyin told him to do it and who was he to disregard the advice of a Bodhisattva. Seriously though, what punishment would you give a murder monkey who feels no remorse and would kill again? A slap on the wrist? Tripitaka is just doing his best to make sure that the journey ends with as little casualties as possible

Tangent aside, please if you like LMK then do your research on the actual pilgrims, they are all very cool and very different then they are depicted in the show

gonna rant in here bc i saw something that pissed me off a lot

someone on tumblr was talking about how May's reunification with her birth mum should have been the goal all along, and the show just expects us to root for the turners because it assumes we like them???

and then i saw smth on twitter that wasn't ctm related but it said "if you want to adopt because you can't have kids, you're doing it for the wrong reasons, parenthood isn't a right"

parenthood isn't a right!! i agree!! but that applies to bio parents as well. may's mother has consistently proven that she's not able to care for her!!! may was born addicted to heroin because her mum used during her pregnancy, was constantly abandoned at the orphanage, and all types of bs.

and now the kid is about 9.

she doesn't speak chinese, she doesn't even REMEMBER her birth mother, and the turners have given her a good home where she feels safe and loved.

parenthood is a responsibility, and it seems like patrick + shelagh are the only ones truly willing and able to fulfil that responsibility for may. so that's where she's safest.

Yeah I always hate how jttw and its adaptations try to paint Tripitaka as this saintly being that can do no wrong when he constantly abuses and humiliates Wukong for doing things within his nature when he's never had someone to teach him the right way in a non harmful way.

Of course, he kills people! He's a demon with anger issues! Instead of immediately punishing him for it, teach him coping methods and calming techniques!

Of course, he's egotistical! He's a god that took on Heaven and almost won! Instead of humiliating him for being prideful, explain to him the virtue of being humble and how too much ego can lead to bad situations!

Of course, he's sneaky and conniving! He's needed to be for himself and his kingdom to survive! Instead yelling at him for stealing and cheating to win, show him there are other ways such as logic and diplomacy that will make far fewer enemies!

Tripitaka is the toxic narcissist parent that beats their kid for the unhealthy personality traits they developed to survive childhood except he managed to gaslight his way into making everyone including Wukong believe his actions are justified and Wukong is the adult that got spanked as a kid and was gaslit into thinking he was bad enough to deserve it even though no parent should lay a hand on their kid.

Tldr; Tripitaka is an asshole and hurts Wukong instead of trying to correct him in a proper manner because it's easier to just be abusive and abandon him when that doesn't work

I'm getting tired of the slander of Law's crew.

Yeah, we all know he doesn't have a crew full of fighters. But that's NEVER been Law's style. He's a tactician. He's proven that over and over again. Law's going to put his crew in places where their skill set is going to shine.

Which is why it's smart to have a team of individuals who may not be able to fight on their own but can man the shit out of the Polar Tang (and how dare some of you not consider the Polar Tang a valued member). A submarine needs to have a unit to take care of it and to utilize it to kick some ass.

It was smart during the Onigashima Raid and it's smart now during the BB fight.

YES!! Forgive me for taking forever to respond, I literally was brewing my thoughts together.

Summary: I believe that Tang is the most similar to his reincarnation, judging by what I've read in JTTW, and also he has the coolest ability.

Okay, let me start off by saying that initially, I did not like Tang. I felt like his character didn't mesh well with the group's dynamic and he just felt out of place. Since then, I am now a big Tang fan. While his character dynamic still feels a bit wonky, I love how in season 3 and season 4 he slowly gets more of an emphasis.

The reason I believe that Tang is most like his counterpart in JTTW is that although Tripitaka is very knowledgeable, he will usually insult the people who work so hard to protect him. In JTTW, Tripitaka is also noted to have trouble walking, which tang is something that Tang also struggles with. (Although, Tang might have been faking it.)

Although, I believe that Tang's weak ankles are referenced again in season 4, so I don't think he's faking it. WHICH LEADS ME TO THE POINT OF THEY SHOULD HAVE GIVEN HIM A WALKING CANE THAT TURNS INTO HIS STAFF LATER ON. (Missed opportunity if you ask me.)

Tang also has the uncanny ability to interact with the fourth wall, my favorite being when he says "Oh I see that Sandy is in this episode." In Season 2, Episode 8. I have no idea if the gif will work, but Tang can be seen looking straight at the viewer when Sandy mentions the plot convenience of the flower's bloom.

Honestly? I would love it if Tang has this ability due to the powers of his reincarnation.

I MEAN LOOK. No one else can see the golden cicadas that literally tell Tang how to move the plot along. There is literally a built-in Deus ex-Machina power that only Tang is actually able to see. If we ever get an episode from Tang's POV, I really hope they address the cicadas. Also, Tang is the only one who gets to interact with one of his previous reincarnations outside of the scroll, which must be super weird. Then you also have the weird plot contradiction that Tang should NOT be the reincarnation of Tripitaka if he completed the journey to the West, because doing the journey should have freed him from the cycle of reincarnation. But, it's a Lego show, so I am not going to fight it.

Also, I think his characterization is perfect. I mean imagine you are 40ish years old, an english major, and have no physical skills. Now also imagine you are best friends with a 6ft pro-wrestler, a man who can crush you with his bare hands, and two people half your age. Then suddenly, those people who are half your age become more powerful than you could ever comprehend. Yeah, I can see why Tang would never get worried about being hurt or putting in effort. However, that also is going to do horrible things to your self-esteem. Tang did not any powers until about the end of season 3, and even then his powers are only really used in season 4.

WHICH IS WHY THIS SCENE IS SO IMPORTANT TO ME. Instead of falling victim to an inferiority complex, Tang knows his strengths and knows that he has a good family. I'm going to be so honest with you all, I think this episode was where I started to like Tang. He doesn't even have powers here, he is simply a man who loves his family.

I've already talked so much, but I just really love Tang and I hope he gets actual characterization throughout season 5.
