Tarlos Headcanon

I have this headcanon that Carlos owns this pair of Bucees pajama pants and he’s had them for years so they’re a bit worn but also very soft and TK finds them in his drawer and just becomes completely enamored with them (and really all things bucees. this is pertinent to Texas culture, trust) so he steals them. They’re ridiculous pants, but Carlos falls a little more in love when he sees TK wearing them

Out of nowhere, Carlos hears a thwack at the same time he feels a thin, hard object hit the back of his head. 

“Ouch,” he complains, rubbing the area of impact. He glares at Iris, now tapping her bow against her other hand, looking extremely pleased to have hit her mark. “What what that for?”

“Stop ogling,” she says.

“I’m not ogling.”

“Sure,” Iris scoffs, rolling her eyes. “I mean, I don’t blame you—I don’t even like men like that but he is pretty to look at. Maybe even prettier than you,” she adds after a moment of contemplation.

Hello capucchino <3 Okay for Carlos it is his childhood bedroom. That one was easy. I think to him the risk involved with his parents in the house, in a bed he thought he would ever kiss a boy in, let alone a boyfriend his parents have invited, is risky, embarrassing, exciting and hot all at once. For TK I could see a few places. I could see them sneak off at the firehouse reopening to get a quicky in in a bathroom, or him getting off having to keep real quiet in a changing room. But then i thought something he would personally find novel and wild is outdoors. Somewhere in nature because growing up in New York, I hc him as not having gone on nature retreats on vacations because his parents were so busy. So fucking under the stars, stones poking into his back? Now I want know yours haha. Are these too tame? I tried not to go : on a rollercoaster or something very unrealistic.

oh gosh what a question okay lets see how many i can think of

TK steals Carlos' clothes often, and Carlos never complains because coming home to see TK in his hoodie is one of his greatest joys

TK can and does cook, but he doesn't enjoy it as much as Carlos, which is why Carlos primarily makes dinner and TK sits on the counter and keeps him company. TK will cook if Carlos is running late or he wants to do something nice, though

Mattress hog Carlos and blanket hog TK

Carlos runs hot and TK runs cold, they balance each other out perfectly

They are the couple who has shows they watch together, and they will get pissy if one watches ahead without them

Contrary to what people might think, TK is the one who enforces rules more with Jonah. TK's with him all day. he needs him to eat vegetables and take naps and be the one who decides that jonah can't get another toy when they're running errands. on the other hand, when carlos gets home, he's so happy to be with his family again that he's an easier 'yes'. (plus, for awhile, Carlos thinks that he needs to get jonah to love him. he's not his biological brother. he has ground to cover)

My headcanon is that TK has always wanted guys to stay inside of him after sex, but his partners were either too casual for that, or just pulled out and fell asleep, or declined if he asked. As in, he told a boyfriend ‘you can stay inside after’ but maybe the guy wasn’t a cuddler or was too sensitive, or he thought TK just wanted to go again after a few minutes but the guy was too tired.

And then TK started wanting to just have his boyfriend inside of him (or to hold him in his mouth) while they were doing random things, like cuddling or watching tv. But the only guy he asked about it thought he just wanted to fuck, or maybe didn’t understand why TK would want that. Why was TK asking to just have him inside but expecting him to hold still and not orgasm?? What were they waiting for?? laskdj

So I think the times he brought it up with guys didn’t go well, although not necessarily because every guy he dated was an asshole (although I certainly think some didn’t care about him much).

But obviously Carlos is different. Carlos is observant and wants TK to feel good, during sex and before/after, so he pays attention to subtle cues and listens to what TK says. (I think TK would do the same with Carlos but might be more likely to file the information away for later.)

So when TK says ‘you can stay in if you want’ (casually, like he doesn’t mind either way), Carlos understands that TK is expressing a desire for intimacy and he does it, and loves it too.

And when TK eventually asks if they want to just cuddle this way, maybe Carlos teases him at first, like, “oh, so you don’t want an orgasm? that’s new,” or maybe he’s initially confused about what TK wants, but he doesn’t let TK shrug it off. He’s probably like, “god, you’re gonna be the death of me”, with TK expecting him to have iron will, but he loves to give TK something sweet and simple like that, and yes he grows to love it too.

I think TK doesn’t express his cockwarming desires at first when they start dating because the intimacy scares him. I do think TK knew deep down that Carlos is The One, although I think for a long time that feeling manifested as “it is going to shatter me into a thousand pieces when he eventually realizes how damaged I am, and I’ll never get over him.”

So doing something so intimate with someone he knows he’ll never recover from? Scary af. And the first time they do it, it’s so good, and he feels so safe and loved and connected, that he knows he was right. He’ll never recover if Carlos leaves. (God, this is giving me so many breakup era feels. ANYWAY.)

But they’re married now and they do it all the time!!! Maybe not as often now that they’ve got a kid, but they take advantage of the times they do get. 😊

So, I've only been to a couple of hockey games in my time (I'm kind of obsessed with the fighting for no reason all the time [the first time it happened I was CONFUSED]).

I'm not sure if you're a big fan, but I remember you mentioning a team before so for Nice Ask Week, I wanted to ask if you do have a favorite team, andddddd if you think Carlos and TK would go make the drive out to Dallas to see the Stars, and if so, who made the other go?

I am definitely a hockey fan, although I've only been watching for a few years. I grew up watching baseball basketball and football, so hockey was the last one I got into. I'm a Tampa Bay Lightning fan (go bolts!!!⚡️) and every game I've been to has been a blast!

Now on the topic of Tarlos, I actually have a ton of headcanons for them and their favorite sports teams from working on my sports fic!

I think TK was a huge hockey fan growing up! He's definitely a baseball fan too, but I hc that he would always watch Yankees games with Owen, and watching the New York Rangers games was something he did with Gwyn.

So here's how I think it happens:

Carlos never really watched hockey growing up, and TK hasn't been to a game since he moved to Austin. He wanted to go with Gwyn whenever the Rangers were in town but they never got the chance to do that. A few years later, Carlos asks TK if he wants to go see the Stars and the Rangers play, and TK agrees. He gets emotional thinking about his mom during the game, but it ends up being an amazing experience for both of them. Carlos is still learning how the game works, but TK loves explaining the rules and reminiscing on when he used to play as a kid. He also tells Carlos he can root for the Stars if he wants to, but Carlos wants to support his husband so he roots against his home team for him.

Bonus HC: they bring Jonah too!! They order some Rangers gear for him as well and he looks adorable, and when they're at the game he loves doing the chants so much that TK doesn't mind that Jonah is technically cheering against their team 😂 and Carlos sends a picture to his family group chat, prompting Andrea to both comment on how cute Jonah looks, while also insisting on getting him an Astros shirt to wear whenever the Yankees come to town.

Jonah also falls asleep midway through the third period. Who ends up winning? It doesn't matter. Either way, TK and Carlos are carrying a sleepy Jonah out of the area with big smiles on their faces 🥺 and this then becomes a family tradition for them.

I really wish I could do art because I would draw this in an instant, but I hope I explained my vision well enough!

TK's been struggling to make his name as a journalist, and he knows he only has a few chances left to write a successful cover story or he'll be fired. He's been trying in vain for months to get ahold of Carlos's publicist to try and score an interview. He'd be happy for so much as a Zoom interview at this point

Out of the blue, TK's invited to stay with Carlos for a week at his vacation home on a nice plot of land in the Texas Hill Country, where he often spends his off-seasons recuperating for TK to get the in-depth interview the media has been after for years

Unbeknownst to TK, Carlos has long been struggling with his decision to publicly come out, and he's been a fan of TK's writing and his authenticity, despite TK's work not being the most well-known. As the two meet and start to get to know each other, TK starts falling for the famous player, especially as he gets to know the real Carlos that no one has ever seen off the field

Once the interview goes live, TK is invited back to Carlos's place, this time not for an interview, but to pickup where they left off. They start dating, quietly at first, before their relationship eventually goes public

Hi Anne :DD You will get a question from me too this week, when my idea braincells are recharged haha.

First, what is your favorite month of the year and why? My favorite month of the year is May. It's finally spring without our weather going back and forth between seasons. Everyone is out in the streets. The city here feels SO drastically different when spring breaks. It's like everyone was in hibernation and wants to sit out in the sun for just a brief moment. It's the perfect picknick weather, it's one of my best friend's birthdays and it feels really reviving in a way. Now I want to know yours haha. Ohh break up era!! Way too unexplored (by the show but also by me). In my mind, Carlos tried to go on a date, TK didn't. Both were equally heartbroken and still in love, but I can see Carlos being so stoic and trying to shut down his emotions that he goes: Okay. I will date and get over it. Needless to say the date goes nowhere, he is perfectly poite but doesn't kiss the guy and manages to break down in his car. TK doesn't date even if he does seem to use that in the past to numb his feelings, but especially since he met Carlos that way, he didn't dare to. He didn't want to even get close to anyone even reminding him of Carlos, even in this way. He pulled up Carlos' number every night though, finger hovering over the button but never landing. I hope that makes sense. I feel like I can never really talk about my hcs in a way that feels like I said what I wanted to...which is why I have 100k fics 😂😂

Tarlos HC: Carlos at some point tried to include TK in his yoga sessions as a couples activity, but seeing TK in yoga clothes aways derails the rest of the day 😏

Absolutely, YES. Carlos also fails to be a very good talker when TK is in his Lycra. They are both a total mess for each other. Cannot believe how lucky they are. They are each other's downward-facing dog 4 life.

Of course fire had to be his power, when he wanted nothing to do with it

As a teenager, he began setting nuisance fires to abandoned buildings and empty lots

It gained traction, spiraled out of control faster than TK could realize, and somehow that made him feel in control. He could control the narrative, when the fires occurred, how they occurred, if anyone could hurt (and if they were, well. they probably had it coming)

Except when they stopped making the news all together, only because something was putting them out faster

And when TK got ahead of the game again, the news came back, but it was all about the hero that was putting out the fires

TK’s not calling him by the stupid name the media gave him, but TK does know he hates him

Oh, and TK doesn’t know that his boyfriend Carlos is the man behind the mask. As matter of fact, Carlos doesn’t know about TK either

I'm not sure I have any super out there headcanons about them, but here are a few.

Carlos didn't have a lot of friends prior to getting close with TK. I think that after high school he lost a lot of them - not for anything malicious, but in the way that happens when you don't see each other every day - and after Iris, he was very closed off. Meeting TK helped him expand that group again.

TK is absolutely a thumbsucker. See the way that boy has an oral fixation? No one can convince me otherwise.

TK helps to unwind Carlos from being strict/stern and come down to earth and be okay with having some more levity in his life. TK is a bit more ridiculous (in a good way!). That being said, I think that Carlos is a soft touch when it comes to Jonah (and future kids!) and TK absolutely teases him about it!

I have many hc about Gwyn and Owen: the early years and trying not to share them all- I believe that they did have a shotgun wedding, but that Owen already had plans to propose before she told him she was pregnant. She had the speech prepared about how she had thought about it for herself and she wanted to have the baby and wanted him to be involved- but only if he wanted to because a few nights of drinking contests with law school cronies she had scratched the surface on HIS deep-seated daddy issues- and she assured him that she didn’t need him to stay with her because of the pregnancy or “do anything stupid like propose”.

Owen interjected during this speech- could he propose anyway? And she rolled her eyes and said no because you’re only doing it because I’m pregnant. He told her no, he was doing it earlier than planned but he had the ring and everything. Gwyn didn’t believe it for a second , so he went into the kitchen in his apartment and pulled a jar of horseradish off the shelf and handed it to her. She opened the jar and it was completely dry inside- all it contained was a small black box.

“Why the horseradish?” She asked after a minute.

“Because I’ve been holding on to that for two months,” Owen told her. “It’s the only place I knew you’d never look”.

Old Tarlos is tougher for me to imagine- but I figure after he retires Carlos has adapted to sleeping in and TK is the one who wants to get to things early- and he will still do things like climb up to walk along the edge of the garden wall and even if it’s only a foot off the ground, Carlos is like please get down before you hurt yourself and TK tells him it’s barely a foot! And Carlos always has in his back pocket are you trying for coma number four?? Even when it’s been decades Carlos is always trying to keep his husband from that fourth coma!!
