vastly underutilised aspect of mdzs is that lwj, at the time wwx attended the cr lectures, had already progressed past any need for lqr's lessons
the whole reason wangxian end up attending classes together is because lqr wanted lwj there to set an example to wwx
it's also because of lqr that wangxian spend so much time in the library together.
in the end lqr regrets this choice (and lwj stops attending the lectures)
obviously wangxian would have happened regardless because, well, wangxian. but i like to imagine that the possibility that his decisions led to all that keeps lqr up at night.

lqr is visiting the ladies' refuge in Yunmeng with wwx while on a visit to Lotus Pier? lqr is now being swarmed by small children who are attracted to his shugong energy and beard. This is fine. Being cuddled by at least 6 small children is absolutely fine.
Only a handful of men are allowed into the ladies' refuge, so Lan Qiren feels incredibly honored when he's invited to teach there for a couple of days during one of his visits to Lotus Pier. He's also the only bearded man who's ever visited, which explains the kids' fascination with his beard. 😂

F. A. F. O.
First thing the junior disciples noticed upon walking into their classroom that morning was the fact that Hanguang-Jun wasn't there. The second thing they noticed was that Wei Wuxian was.
"Where's Hanguang-Jun?", Jingyi, ever the direct boy, asked, not knowing whether to be excited (senior Wei always made lessons fun) or worried (Hanguang-Jun never missed class unless there was an emergency).
"If Lan Zhan was here, he'd make you copy the rules twice for being rude." Wei Wuxian teased, "What was it, rule 45? Always greet your senior disciples respectfully?"
Lan Jingyi's cheeks pinked up. "S-sorry about that, it's just it's usually Hanguang-Jun that teaches us in the morning... we start with the rules and..."
"What? Don't you think I know the rules too? When I was your age, I copied them 100 times!"
A little Lan from the group spoke up. "Um... doesn't that mean you always broke them?"
"Yeah, but that doesn't mean I didn't know them!" Wei Wuxian laughed. "Now come on, we have to begin the lesson already, if some Lan elder passes by and doesn't hear learning going on, who knows what he'll do to me!"
"Hanguang-Jun always covers for you." Jingyi mumbled, only a bit envious. If only he had someone to cover for him too - his arms still hurt from the last round of handstands he had to do for drinking alcohol in the Cloud Recesses. It was only a jar and it wasn't even worth it!
"Alright!" Wei Wuxian started, taking on a more serious stance. "Hanguang-Jun has business to attend to with Zewu-Jun and grandmaster Lan for the upcoming conference, so I'll be teaching you guys today! I was given full authority and everything, so don't think I'll be lax just because I'm not Hanguang-Jun, okay?"
Wei Wuxian found it quite funny to be in a teaching position, and he had a hard time suppressing a laugh - if someone told him 15 or so years ago he would ever be a substitute teacher for little Lans in the Cloud Recesses, he would have thought they were playing a ridiculous, unrealistic prank on him.
Still, he decided to take the time to teach the kids some life lessons too - the Lan rules were good, yes, but 5000 as they were, they couldn't cover everything.
"Now, before we move on to the assignment you had to do for today, I'm going to teach you a very important rule that will be very helpful for you all in your cultivation, but also in life. Listen carefully and never forget, alright?"
The kids' eyes fixed on him, and Wei Wuxian very gravely recited. "The rule is this: the more you fuck around, the more you find out!"
There was a brief silence, before the class broke out in giggles. Wei Wuxian had a hard time suppressing his own, but continued. "People who don't follow this rule have a much harder time in life, so always keep it in mind."
"Could you give us an example of such a person?"
"Wen Chao."
But Wei Wuxian realized his mistake only the moment Jingyi followed up the question with "how so? He died in the war, so yeah he fucked around but how did he find out exactly?"
There was no way Wei Wuxian would answer that, so he sat at his desk and opened the Lan rulebook. "No time for that. Let's move on to-"
"Tell us! Hanguang-Jun always says that examples are useful to remember things!"
"Not this time."
"But-"
Wei Wuxian decided to pull the authority card a bit, and dropped his cheerful act. "You know, as your teacher, I can also use the silencing spell on you today. Do you want to be the next example of fuck around and find out, Lan Jingyi?"
"...no, thank you."

"you should all know by now that I am not a patient man. I will could from three. three, two-" is so so sexy always kiss me on the lips etc etc king behavior but now that I've seen the similarity between that and me going "I need you to (insert task here) in three, in two, in one" to a school aged child who is being disruptive or otherwise unhelpful I don't think that that scene will ever not also be just a little bit funny

Wei Wuxian had already made his mark on the cultivation world and he knew it. He had been a nuisance and a war hero and a threat and the stain of true evil and then he had died. Whatever place he had once carved for himself was shed at some point in those thirteen years. Now, having been revived, a man displaced from time, he could accept that he didn't really belong anywhere except perhaps at Lan Wangji's side. And that should be enough, because Lan Wangji's side was the best place in the world to belong. It didn't matter if none of the other sects wanted anything to do with him, or the fear and scorn that other cultivators met him with. Really, it didn't.
The juniors disagree.
27k of me basically screaming that Wei Wuxian deserves nice things actually and should get to have a whole bunch of juniors absolutely adore him. I'm not sure what spurred this except a very specific desire to write the final scene, but I was in A Mood and this has basically been what's occupied my free time for the past few weeks.

Writing a fic! Here's a snippet
“As cultivators, most of our work is paying off the debts of innumerable human follies; and rising above them.
We treat these vicissitudes with such a cold business-like manner we cannot recognize when we fall back into the same follies. Many lose compassion for the common people, even for their peers.
Now this is partly due to our trade; we experience how selfish one man can be, rarely do we see kindness. Most who deal it, never need our services.
Being so removed, lost in the grinding cogs of a society built by our own hands, individuals become an amount in a ledger, written then forgotten.
The consequences of a world such as this is evident. Corruption, cruelty, callousness, love only for excess, people so focused on adulation of themselves and their power that violence is an acceptable price to keep it.
Ungrateful. Arrogant. Forgetful and dismissive of ancestral wisdom.
The result is bloodshed and tears.”
Wei Wuxian is most definitely speaking from his experience.
